Pimm's Cups
Tumblr media
Ava and I are loving our new flat in Tāmaki Makaurau, so even if we're only here for a few days, we are taking the time to lounge in the sun on the balcony, with beautifully refreshing Pimm's Cups --a classic of Summer cocktails for almost two centuries!-- at arm's length! Cheers!
Ingredients (serves 2):
3 medium Garden Strawberries
1/3 cucumber
1 orange
about 2 or 3 dozens small ice cubes
1/2 large lemon
120 millilitres/4 fluid ounces Pimm's No. 1
chilled Ginger Ale (like Bundaberg's), to top
2 sprigs fresh mint
Rinse the Strawberries, cucumber and orange under cold water. Then, pat them dry.
Halve two of the Strawberries, and cut six thin slices cucumber and two slices orange. Set aside.
Fill two Whisky or Collins glasses to three-quarters with ice cubes.
Thoroughly squeeze lemon juice, and divide between both glasses. Pour Pimm's No. 1 over the ice and lemon juice in each glass, and add an orange slice in each. Top with chilled ginger ale.
Garnish with reserved cucumber slices, Strawberries and mint sprigs.
Enjoy Pimm's Cups immediately, preferably in good company...

Specifically dating Royal with a merc with a mullet now for that hot Mullet on Mullet action (/j)(or am I..? 🤔)
But! Regardless of the mullet slander (which I Do Not Percieve), do the cast have a go to drink? Like does Royal have one picked out for each of them or does it depend on the mood?
royal does have drinks they regularly make the ros!
jax is a bit of a traditional guy and likes either an old fashioned (left) or a negroni (right) depending on the day he had
Tumblr media Tumblr media
orla likes a sazerac because it has some serious bite to it or a gimlet with vodka bc of the lime
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and dante/delilah likes drinks that straight up either kill their brain cells like a death in the afternoon (left) bc of the absinthe or a good old cocktail like a mint julep (right) bc it's fresh. there's no in between.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as for royal themself, they like cocktails! the more colorful/fresh, the better. sex on the beach, pimms cup or a mai tai doesn't matter to them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
there are also some signature drinks royal makes for the saints & sinners but those change every couple weeks.

5 drinks to get to know me
Oh! Thank you lovely @lynne-monstr for the tag, this is so fun!!
Dark Spiced Rum
I’m not good with alcohol that tastes like alcohol, so I spent most of my early drinking years mixing vodka with literally anything that would mask the taste of vodka. And then I discovered dark spiced rum and wow, that revolutionised my drinking! Haha I’m a big fan of a Dark 'N' Stormy cocktail, but honestly I’ll drink dark spiced rum with pretty much any mixer.
Fruit Cider
Pretty much same as above. I became a farmer and very quickly realised that cider was the drink of choice amongst 97% of my farming friends, but I’m just not the biggest fan of straight up flat apple cider. I like it on occasion, but not in the quantity that we were drinking while I did my BTEC or when attending livestock shows… lol But hey. Fruit cider was practically invented for me! Lately I’ve been on a Blood Orange Cider kick. Really cuts through the sweetness of the cider. Om nom nom.
Pimms
This is a situational drink. I absolutely LOVE having people round my house for food and drink, and I’m a whizz at barbecuing, and there’s nothing more fun than taking full advantage of the 4 and a half hot summer days we get in this country, than having all of your nearest and dearest round for a barbecue, and Pimms is the perfect drink for that!
Hot Chocolate
I have NO problem with it being made from powder, I’m not that much of a Swiss hot chocolate snob. However good hot chocolate is made with MILK, not water!! And the milk is heated on the HOB, not in the microwave!! And if you want to throw in some actual chocolate, I won’t say no… guess I am a bit of a Swiss hot chocolate snob haha Marshmallows and whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon? Yes please!
Chai Lattes
I’ve always been sad because I don’t drink coffee and I don’t really want a hot chocolate three times a day, whenever other people are popping to coffee shops, and I resent paying 3 quid for a cup of tea!! And for some reason I always assumed I wouldn’t like chai lattes but then after years and years I thought ‘just order one, if you don’t like it you really haven’t lost very much…’ and I LOVED IT! It’s now my absolute go to coffee shop drink. Yummy yum yum!
Right… @rutherinahobbit? @lingy910y? @hellofavillain? @vintagelacerosette? @deedala? @mishervellous? @mariemarion? Fancy playing? :)

Miss Flighty's Jet Fueled Ginger Cardamom Cocktail Syrup from Alberta Straub on Vimeo.
This recipe for Ginger Cardamom Syrup was created over 5 years ago. Back then there was a much more limited selection of distilled spirits and mixers, only 2 or 3 brands of Ginger Beer were available in San Francisco and even these did not add the spicy hot finish that I wanted for my cocktails. I develop this recipe over time, experimenting with proportion and method. The end result, with a 1:1 ratio sugar to water, and a whole pound of peeled sliced ginger, achieves the bold flavor profile I need to give my gin and whiskey drinks the sophisticated favor I was looking for.
I tried a new way of preparing the ginger since I filmed this episode, its a little time consuming but it brings out the flavor of the ginger even more. After peeling, use the same tool to slice the ginger into wafer thin strips, reduce cooking time and let the mixture sit until developed.
Homemade syrups do not use preservatives and will start to mold in the refrigerator after 2-3 weeks. Store surplus in the freezer, the high concentration of sugar prevents it from freezing solid and its easy to scoop out and use as necessary for home cocktail making.
For recipes using Miss Flighty's Ginger Cardamom Syrup, check out the MaryAnn with Ginger, the Pimm's Cup, the Pear Necessity, the Mac Daddy and the Georgia Julep!

Favorite alcoholic beverage? Cocktail?
i am a big beer girl... i drink beer everywhere i go even most cocktail bars. i hate to say it but i really like IPAs, the fruitier the better. i also really like fat tire. as for cocktails i actually really love any sort of sours... whiskey or pisco are my favorites. i also like pimm's cups and dark and stormy. anything with ginger i love... i had a ginger apple cider recently that would rank in my favorites if it wasn't such a difficult drink to find.

At Bionic Bar, meet two robotic bartenders who know how to shake, stir and mix up your night out. With moves as fluid as the Pimm’s in your cup, these mecha mixologists can create an almost endless combination of cocktails, from classic cosmos to custom-crafted sips designed by you. A pity that we did not get to try this out as my colleague’s entitlement did not included this.

At 6pm, we bade farewell to the island of Penang as the ship will be making its return trip to Singapore. I guess these people just wasted US$40 each trying to catch that “perfect” sunset pictures from atop the North Star which rises to more than 92 metres above sea level.

Kiwi Summer Pimm's Cup
Tumblr media
Ava's dad suggested having cocktails on the sun deck --their house has several decks-- before dinner the other day and I said I knew just the thing, if you allow me, sir; which he generously did! I took the Pimm's No. 1 from my suitcase, a few of the fruit I'd bought at the shops, and mixed this Kiwi Summer Pimm's Cup, which I'm happy to say, went down a treat! Happy Saturday!
Ingredients (serves 4):
4 dozens small ice cubes
2 medium ripe peaches, rinsed
2 ripe feijoas, rinsed
1 small lime
1/2 cup Pimm's Cup No. 1
500 millilitres/2 cups chilled, good quality ginger ale(like Bundaberg's)
Place ice cubes into a large pitcher.
Halve, pit and slice peaches. Add peach slices to the pitcher.
Cut feijoas and lime into thin slices, and add them to the pitcher as well.
Drizzle generously with Pimm's Cup No. 1, give a good stir and allow to infuse, 5 minutes.
Top with chilled ginger ale; give a gentle stir, and serve Kiwi Summer Pimm's Cup immediately!

Sipping Sensibly: How to enjoy alcohol without losing control
you're sitting at a cozy bar, surrounded by laughter and the clinking of glasses. The bartender skillfully pours and mixes various colorful concoctions, creating a sensory experience like no other. Yes, we're talking about alcohol - a beverage that has been a companion to social gatherings, celebrations, and even quiet nights in for centuries.
Alcohol, in moderation, can be enjoyed responsibly and even enhance social experiences. However, it's important to find a balance and to be mindful of our choices. In this blog post, we will explore the world of craft cocktails, the art of mixology, and how to sip sensibly. Let's dive in!
Tumblr media
The History and Evolution of Mixology
Craft cocktails and mixology aren't just buzzwords; they have a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. The art of mixology began taking shape as bartenders experimented with various ingredients and techniques to create unique and flavorful libations. However, it wasn't until the Prohibition era in the United States that cocktail culture truly experienced a revolution.
During Prohibition, the production, sale, and distribution of alcoholic beverages were banned. This led to the rise of underground speakeasies, where innovative mixologists used homemade alcohol and exotic ingredients to craft cocktails that masked the poor quality of the spirits. As the ban was lifted and cocktail culture began to flourish, mixologists continued to push boundaries and create new flavor combinations, techniques, and presentation styles.
Unveiling the Craft Cocktail Experience
What sets a craft cocktail apart from a standard cocktail? The answer lies in the craftsmanship and attention to detail. Craft cocktails are meticulously curated using fresh, high-quality ingredients, balanced flavors, and sophisticated techniques. Each sip is a journey of flavors, a dance on the palate that elevates the overall drinking experience.
The ingredients used in craft cocktails play a crucial role in their creation. From perfectly ripe fruits and hand-picked herbs to artisanal spirits and homemade syrups, every element is carefully selected to ensure the utmost quality and taste. Craft cocktails are not just drinks; they are a labor of love.
Signature Cocktails from Around the World
Classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned and Martini have stood the test of time, captivating the taste buds of generations. But the world of craft cocktails offers a vast array of signature drinks, each influenced by regional flavors and cultural traditions.
Imagine sipping on a Caipirinha in Brazil, with its zesty lime and sugarcane punch, or indulging in a refreshing Pimm's Cup in England on a sunny afternoon. No matter where you are, there's bound to be a signature cocktail waiting to be discovered. Exploring lesser-known cocktails from different countries can open up a whole new world of flavors and expand your cocktail repertoire.
The Art of Pairing Cocktails with Gourmet Cuisine
Cocktails aren't just meant to be enjoyed on their own; they can also be paired with gourmet cuisine to create a harmonious dining experience. Like a beautiful symphony, a well-paired cocktail can elevate the flavors of a dish, bringing out its nuances and enhancing the overall meal.
Restaurants and bars are increasingly focusing on curated cocktail menus that complement their food offerings. By considering the flavors, textures, and aromas of both the cocktail and the dish, mixologists and chefs work in synergy to create unforgettable dining experiences. Interactive cocktail pairing events have also gained popularity, allowing guests to witness the magic of pairing unfold right before their eyes.
Home Mixology: Elevating your Cocktail Game
Why limit your craft cocktail experience to fancy bars? With the right tools, ingredients, and a dash of creativity, you can bring mixology into your own home. Building a well-equipped home bar is the first step towards becoming your own mixologist.
Invest in essential tools like shakers, strainers, and muddlers, and stock your bar with a versatile selection of spirits, mixers, and garnishes. Experiment with different cocktail recipes and don't be afraid to add your own twist. Who knows, you might discover your own signature drink!
The Future of Mixology: Trends and Innovations
The world of mixology is ever-evolving, with new trends and innovations constantly pushing the boundaries of what a cocktail can be. Molecular mixology, for example, incorporates scientific techniques to create visually stunning and avant-garde cocktails. Suspended bubbles, smoking glasses, and edible garnishes are just a few examples of the creative possibilities that this field offers.
Additionally, as more people seek healthier alternatives or simply want to cut down on alcohol consumption, the demand for non-alcoholic and low-alcohol options has grown. Mixologists are rising to the challenge, creating sophisticated mocktails and refreshing low-alcohol cocktails that cater to a wide range of preferences.
Conclusion
Sipping sensibly doesn't mean abstaining altogether; it means enjoying alcohol in moderation and with mindfulness. Craft cocktails and the art of mixology have brought a new level of sophistication and enjoyment to the world of adult beverages. By exploring the history, savoring signature drinks from around the world, and even trying your hand at home mixology, you can enhance your drinking experience and embark on a flavorful adventure. So raise your perfectly-crafted cocktail and cheers to the fine art of sipping sensibly!

Unveiling the Rich Heritage of Pimm's: A Timeless British Elixir
Tumblr media
Imagine sipping a cool, refreshing concoction that encapsulates the spirit of a British summer. A drink that has stood the test of time, evoking nostalgia and a sense of conviviality. Welcome to the world of Pimm's, the quintessentially English beverage that has enchanted generations with its unique blend of flavors and its rich history. The story of Pimm's dates back to the mid-19th century when James Pimm, a farmer's son from Kent, London, set up a shellfish bar in the city. It was in this oyster house that Pimm began serving a secret blend of gin, quinine, and a proprietary mixture of herbs, creating what would eventually become known as Pimm's No. 1 Cup. This original concoction was touted for its distinctive taste and its ability to aid digestion. As word of Pimm's elixir spread, its popularity surged, leading to the opening of more Pimm's Oyster Houses across London. However, it wasn't until 1859 that Pimm's No. 1 was officially bottled and sold for retail consumption, marking the birth of an iconic brand that would soon become synonymous with British summer gatherings and social events. The early 20th century witnessed the introduction of various Pimm's 'cups,' each denoted by a number, including Pimm's No. 2 (Scotch whisky-based), No. 3 (brandy-based), No. 4 (rum-based), and No. 5 (rye-based). However, it was Pimm's No. 1 Cup that gained unparalleled fame and became the go-to beverage for garden parties, regattas, and Wimbledon, firmly establishing itself as a symbol of British leisure and sociability. Pimms Cup Cocktail Over the years, Pimm's has evolved into a versatile drink, often served with a mix of lemonade, fresh fruit, cucumber, and mint, creating the beloved Pimm's Cup cocktail. Its refreshing and aromatic taste has made it a staple in the British drinking culture, enjoyed not only during summer but also as a year-round favorite for those seeking a taste of tradition and a touch of English elegance. Today, Pimm's continues to hold its position as a beloved classic, transcending generations and cultures, with its distinctive blend of flavors and its ability to bring people together. Whether it's a garden party, a picnic in the park, or a sophisticated social gathering, Pimm's remains a symbol of conviviality, relaxation, and the joy of shared moments. As we raise our glasses filled with the fruity, herb-infused nectar, let us raise a toast to James Pimm, the visionary behind this timeless British elixir that continues to capture hearts and palates, embodying the spirit of conviviality and the essence of British tradition. Here's to the enduring legacy of Pimm's—a drink that has withstood the tides of time and continues to weave its magic into the fabric of British culture and beyond. From his time on VH1's Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party to his bestselling book of soul food recipes, “From Crook to Cook,” Snoop Dogg has shown us that he can get down in the kitchen.
Now, the D.O.-Double-G. is back with a follow-up to his successful cookbook debut – and this time, he brought a friend along. “Snoop Dogg Presents Goon with the Spoon” is a collab with Bay Area rapper Earl “E-40” Stevens, a.k.a “The Goon with the Spoon.” The book features over 65 recipes for every meal, along with colorful photos inspired by both rappers’ favorite recipes...and, of course, their mutual California love.
“E-40 is my big homie, my brother, my mentor. He paved the way for me on the West Coast,” Snoop said in a statement shared with The Root. “Watching him expand his love for food and cooking over the years to his many successful businesses is some boss-level shit. Which is why ‘Snoop Dogg Presents Goon With the Spoon’ had to be the next cookbook, ya dig?”
Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Mac ’n’ Cheese Bites, Cognac Mashed Potatoes and Purple Popsizzles are just a few of their creative takes on classic dishes and drinks.
So if you’re looking to add a little Cali flavor to your holiday menu, Snoop shared a couple of recipes from the book with us:
Ridin’ Dirty Shrimp ’n’ Grits
Tumblr media
Shrimp and grits are a Southern staple, so this recipe is sure to be a favorite at your holiday brunch.
“We like to add a little crunch to our shrimp and grits, so make sure to fry that bacon hard!” Snoop says.
For The Grits
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 cup [140 g] stone-ground grits (not instant)
2 cups [480 ml] low-sodium chicken broth
1 cup [240 ml] whole milk
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup [80 g] shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
For The Shrimp
4 slices bacon (not thick cut), cut crosswise into 1/2 in. [13 mm] pieces
1 lb [455 g] 21/25-count shrimp, peeled and deveined
3 green onions, thinly sliced, with 1 Tbsp dark green parts reserved for garnish
2 tsp hot sauce, preferably Crystal
Salt and cracked black pepper
To Make The Grits
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the grits and cook until lightly toasted for about 2 minutes. Add the chicken broth, milk and salt. Increase the heat to medium-high and bring to a boil.
Lower the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thick and creamy for 30 to 40 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the cheese. Cover to keep warm.
To Cook The Shrimp
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the bacon and cook until browned and crisp, 7 to 8 minutes, turning once halfway through cooking. Meanwhile, line a large plate with paper towels. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to the paper towel–lined plate. Discard all but 1 tbsp of the fat from the skillet.
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the shrimp and the green onions. Cook until the shrimp is pink and opaque throughout for 4 to 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, stir in the bacon and hot sauce, and season with salt and pepper.
Ladle the grits into individual bowls and top with the shrimp. Garnish with the reserved green onions and serve.
Pimp’s Cup (Makes 1 drink)
Tumblr media
6 oz [180 ml] Pimm’s
2 oz [60 ml] fresh lemon juice
1 tsp sugar
2 orange slices
1 strawberry, sliced
Mint sprig
Ginger ale, for topping off
1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the Pimm’s, lemon juice, and sugar. Cover the shaker and shake well for 30 seconds.
In a tumbler, drop in the orange slices, strawberry slices, mint sprig, and ice. Strain the Pimm’s mixture into the prepared tumbler until halfway full and top off with ginger ale. Serve immediately.
