Last night was Night 1 of the Second Annual Children's & Family Emmys, and I already have my favorite post from the night.

Ben Juwono, former member of the BH6 team and current Supervising Director and co-producer of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, shows one of the three Emmys that the show won for the night (Outstanding Voice Directing, Outstanding Main Title, and Outstanding Casting for an Animated Series).

Speaking of BH6 alum, Baymax! won two Emmys, Outstanding Editing and (shown above) Outstanding Writing for an Animated Program.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on Tuesday morning announced the nominations for the first annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, which will be presented on Saturday, Dec. 10 (Creative Arts) and Sunday, Dec. 11 at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles.

Chapter 3: Black Cat Avatar

Narrated by Marina.

Narrator: Everyone in Shadowflow is happy and excited about Halloween... except for Cersei, who is sitting beside me now feeling all defeated.

Cersei: Halloween is just around the corner, but we haven't even seen the founder yet. They moved away right after Halloween last year. God only knows how much time we still have...

Narrator: I see a jack-o'-lantern when I look outside the window... with its warm, orange light, it's pointing people in the direction of the Halloween parade.

Marina: If we can't find them, then why don't we make them find us instead?

Narrator: The professor is on the stage making animals disappear... lame. So much for an intermediate class.

Narrator: As night sets in, I put a cover on my magic box and raise my hand standing on my stool.

Marina: Professor, can I go up and try something?

Narrator: When I'm on the podium with my magic box, I pretend to rummage in it to find my wand while actually trying to set up my secret weapon.

Narrator: With my eyes closed, I raise my wand and draw a kitty's head in the air.

Marina: Boom shakalaka, feliniarus, adios paulo mus!

Narrator: The little mouse in the cage is nowhere to be seen when I lift the cloth. Then, the silhouette of a cat slowly forms on the wall behind me.

Narrator: Right when the silhouette has all but consumed the entire classroom, a cat somewhere outside lets out a few long meows.

Student A: This has to be one of the most advanced transformation spells of dark magic!

Student B: Marina just turned into a black cat!

Narrator: And word spreads like wildfire. I haven't even gone through half my donut after class when I'm invited to join the founder for a conversation.

Narrator: I wink at Cersei. We have the founder hooked!

Narrator: With my magic box in hand, we walk through a bunch of hidden doors... and finally find ourselves standing before an office with a security keypad.

Narrator: The founder is dressed in an expensive-looking velvet wizard robe. His assistant, standing next to him, wears a white shirt.

Founder: Marina, we've heard about your outstanding performance in class and, as such, would like to ask you to join us for an interview. Would you mind my asking what you're carrying in that magical box of yours?

Marina: This isn't a magical box. The designer and I call this "a box with magic props."

Narrator: They look like they've just lost the lottery.

Narrator: I take my secret weapon out of the box, and sleeping in it is a black kitty. I touch its head ever so gently. The kitty wakes up to my touches and lets out a few meows.

Marina: I brought the little guy up to the podium when no one saw me doing it and put on quite a show. The rest is history.

Marina: By the way, this is what I used in our very first class.

Narrator: I show them the metallic device that's flickering in my hand. The founder's assistant tries to grab it from me, but I hide it behind my back immediately.

Marina: I have a whole bunch of gadgets like this... a little pumpkin that talks, a robot that walks like a ghost...

Founder: Would you and your team be willing to provide us with technical support?

Founder: If you're able to help, we can go 50/50 with the earnings from our additional paid programs.

Marina: Well... let me think about that.

Narrator: The founder looks at his assistant, seemingly waiting for his permission. The assistant nods his head, gesturing the founder to leave.

Assistant: To show our sincerity, I will hide nothing from you about the school. I'm, in fact, the school's founder. Just let me know how you would like to split the earnings.

Marina: Uhh?! ...Well, sure. You've shown me your sincerity, and that's all the assurance that my team and I need.

Marina: By the way, can I come in here whenever I want to now that I'm part of the team? I want to sit in these big chairs because the stools in the classroom are killing me.

Assistant: Of course! We can even turn a meeting room into your own lounge if you're part of us. Welcome to the team, Marina. We look forward to making the school a better place with you!

Narrator: ...And they kick out the professor and let me take over. I'm also part of the school's management team now, which means I can enter the office and participate in meetings.

Marina: The whole school is my playground now! And all their information is mine for the taking!

A Quiet Life For Those Who Are Insatiable

Recently my For You Page is filled with slideshows of people sharing their "quiet life". These slideshows includes pictures in nature, warm drinks in cute mugs, books, phone calls with parents. A quiet life is something soft. Something safe and personal. I'm aware that social media is extremely curated. These are the best pictures people could find and they've edited and arranged them to look "aesthetic". But a quiet life doesn't seem that unattainable. It's an existence where life is something you live, not something you fight for.

This trend made me realize that my life is far from quiet. It's breathless and ruthless and I am always starving for something. Since I was a child I have been ridiculously ambitious. Once my mother told me that I would have to miss ballet because we were going to a friend's birthday party and I cried. I told her that if I missed class my teacher wouldn't think I was dedicated and I wouldn't be moved to the upper level. I was eight.

Ballet was where I directed all of my insanity for about sixteen years. I went to three different studios and took private lessons just to get enough training. In the fall I spent every weekend at Nutcracker rehearsal, then every weekend in the spring at auditions until concert rehearsals started up. In the summers I'd spend weeks at prestigious summer intensives where I would sometimes be on pointe for six hours a day. Needless to say, this lifestyle wasn't sustainable. I tore both of my patella tendons and was out of dance for six months. My scoliosis worsened to the point where dance became excruciatingly painful. By the time my teachers wanted me to audition for professional programs, I was burnt out and had done permanent damage to my body. So did I learn my lesson and chill out after ruining my ballet career before it even really started? Of course not, I just redirected all that ambition into my academics.

There's a fire that lights in me when I have a goal. There's a look in my eyes, a feeling in my chest when I really, really want something. When I'll do whatever it takes to get it. My ambition and the standards I hold myself to have gotten me to where I am today, and I'm grateful for that. But now good isn't enough. I've been good before, now it's just my baseline. I can't just be good, I have to be perfect. I have to be once in a lifetime. Even when I'm awarded scholarships for being "outstanding" in my department or get A's in all my classes...it's not enough. Nothing I do is ever enough.

So my life is not quiet. My life is a constant bellowing voice in my ear pushing me to be more even when I am exhausted. Reminding me that I will never be as good as I once was and I'll never be as good as everyone else. But I imagine it. A life where my success doesn't rely on the parts of my life with a score attached to them. A life where I am gentle and soft, where there is no fire or ash. A life where, like Mary Oliver said, I do not have to be good, I only have to let the soft animal of my body love what it loves. A life where one day I won't look down and find my own blood on my hands. Where I won't try and fail to scrub it off calling "out damn spot!" and knowing my ambition has run me to ruin.

I know my cautionary tales, I do, but I'm still insatiable. I worry that I'm incapable of being satisfied. That I am not good enough for anything and nothing is good enough for me. I worry that I ruin everything, no matter how much I love it. That the very loving of the thing, is what makes me destroy it and myself in the process. I want a quiet life. I don't want to keep killing everything I love.

Awards for children-focused programs have been presented at the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards for decades.

In fact, it was at the 2003 Daytime ceremony that Shia LaBeouf won for his role as Louis Stevens in the category of Outstanding Performer in Children’s Programming. (Coincidentally, it was DCOM queen Kirsten Storms that presented it.)

As viewers continue to move away from traditional daytime and primetime slots, The Television Academy decided to give children’s television its own award presentation to embrace streaming and its non-linear content.

This year marked the inaugural Children’s and Family Emmy Awards.

Disney Channel/Plus received several nominations during the November announcement. Our paranormal recommendation, Secrets of Sulphur Springs, was one.

But it was the revival of Zoog Disney’s The Proud Family that had our attention.

I must say...that my reaction to this is much the same as that of the giant. It fills us both with absolute glee! 😉 Honestly, I find everything about this scene 100% irresistible, guys! 🤭 And Bobby Riha is so adorable, isn't he? Incidentally, this live action/animation combo really was quite innovative for it's time...and it actually garnered Gene an Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Program that year. It's also interesting to note, that in addition to starring, he both produced and directed this one. Nice work, Gene! 🙌 Bobby Riha & Gene Kelly, in "Jack And The Beanstalk" (1967). 🤍

Ali was born in Oakland, California, on February 16, 1974, to Willicia Goines and Phillip Gilmore. He was raised as a Christian in nearby Hayward, California, by his mother, an ordained Baptist minister whose own mother, Evia Goines, was herself an ordained minister at Palma Ceia Baptist Church in Hayward. His father was an actor who appeared on Broadway. Maher-shalal-hash-baz is the name of the prophet Isaiah's second child (chapter 8, Book of Isaiah).

He is an American actor. He has received multiple accolades, including two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award. Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2019, and in 2020, The New York Times ranked him among the 25 greatest actors of the 21st century.

After pursuing an MFA degree from New York University, Ali began his career as a regular on television series Crossing Jordan (2001–02) and Threat Matrix (2003–04), before his breakthrough role as Richard Tyler in the science fiction series The 4400 (2004–07). His first major film role was in the David Fincher-directed fantasy The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008).
