Hello, I am Corey. This is me. That tiny blue dot in the center of the frame, paddling the Great South Bay on Long Island, NY. Speaking of tiny blue dots, this will serve as my vehicle to share my documentation of my experiences on this "tiny pale blue dot" us humans call Earth. I enjoy moving through landscapes of all kinds, creating images that I can appreciate and relive through this medium. I type this as a reminder to myself that these images are for me, by me.To express myself creatively through photos that continue to inspire me to get outdoors and become closer to nature. The goal is to become in tune with her, creating images out of the emotions conjured up during any kind of adventure. Being open to the possibilities of nature, and how my mind and photographic eye interpret it along the way, eventually becoming engrained digitally. If this digitization of my emotions inspires more folks to enjoy nature, then these images are for them as well. This is me.

1st Blog- NYC Scavenger Hunt
Hello! Welcome to my first blog post! For our first Study Tour, we walked all over Manhattan as we followed a Scavenger Hunt. This Study Tour was very exciting as we got to see many iconic places in NYC!
At our first stop, we found ourselves at the iconic New York Public Library. The big hint to know where we were going was the phenemonal lion sculptures that welcome visitors into this amazing library. I had one of my classmates snap a picture of me in front of one of the Lions. I look forward to hopefully coming to this library to study while I am here in NY. Wonderful stop, this building was amazing.
Tumblr media
Following the NYPL, we walked a little bit more to find ourselves in Bryant Park. Bryant Park is absolutely amazing, and especially cool this time of year because of the public outdoor ice skating rink. This park is absolutely beautiful, and a must see if you are in the city. Sadly, I forgot to take a picture while we walked through, however I found a great picture on Bryant Park's website @bryantpark.org
This photo shows the awesome ice skating rink! This was a wonderful stop on our scavenger hunt, and I am definitely looking forward to coming back to Bryant Park as the weather gets warmer.
Tumblr media
Our next stop was a very cool exhibit put on by the Garment District. The sculpture was of a giant Button and Needle. According to the Garment District website @garmentdistrict.nyc, this Button and Needle structure is very beloved to the neighborhood and iconic to many. It was very cool to see this with my classmates, as it was very large and interesting to look at. Overall, this stop was very intriguing, and I look forward to see what happens with it in the future.
Tumblr media
Our next stop on the scavenger hunt is Mood Fabrics! This place is extremely intriguing, and every Fashion Design major's dream. Although I am a merchandising major, I found it fascinating at the multitude of fabrics and findings and everything in between. On our first week of Study Tour, we did end up making our way over to Mood, so when we came back this week, it was fun to take a deeper dive into all that Mood entails. My classmates and I had fun looking around and picking out our favorite fabrics. I look forward to hopefully coming back to Mood, as in my product development class we have to get some swatches for a project! Overall, Mood is always a wonderful time and I could definitely lose track of time taking everything in.
Tumblr media
Overall, this Scavenger Hunt was very successful! I had a great time with my classmates as we navigated the Big Apple. We had a variety of other stops on our journey, however I figured I would just highlight my top four since including all the stops would be an extremely long blog post. This experience was enlightening and overall very fun, and I look forward to next week's adventures.
Thanks for reading! Bye!

Physical Health Benefits of Outdoor Activities by Joshua Vandervoort: The Importance of Nature for Exercise and Fitness
In the hustle and bustle of modern life, it's easy to overlook the profound impact that nature has on our physical health and well-being. Yet, spending time outdoors and engaging in physical activities amidst natural surroundings offers a myriad of benefits for our bodies. From hiking through lush forests to cycling along scenic trails, outdoor activities not only provide opportunities for exercise but also contribute to overall fitness and vitality. In this blog, we delve into the physical health benefits of outdoor activities and explore why nature plays a crucial role in promoting exercise and fitness. Joshua Vandervoort
Boosting Cardiovascular Health
Engaging in outdoor activities such as walking, jogging, or cycling as guided by nature lovers like Joshua Vandervoort stimulates the cardiovascular system, leading to improved heart health and circulation. The varied terrain and natural landscapes encountered during outdoor exercise challenge the body's cardiovascular system, leading to increased heart rate and blood flow. Regular cardiovascular exercise helps strengthen the heart muscle, lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes. Additionally, exposure to natural sunlight during outdoor activities helps regulate the body's production of vitamin D, which is essential for maintaining healthy bones and immune function.
Enhancing Physical Strength and Endurance
Nature provides an ideal backdrop for building physical strength and endurance through activities such as hiking, rock climbing, and trail running. The uneven terrain and natural obstacles encountered during outdoor adventures engage different muscle groups and promote functional strength development. Climbing steep inclines, traversing rugged terrain, and navigating obstacles require balance, coordination, and core stability, contributing to overall physical fitness. Regular participation in outdoor activities also enhances endurance levels, allowing individuals to sustain physical exertion for longer periods without fatigue. As muscles adapt to the demands of outdoor activities, individuals experience improvements in muscular strength, endurance, and overall physical performance. Josh Vandervoort
Improving Respiratory Health
Spending time in nature under the guidance of nature lovers like Joshua Vandervoort exposes us to cleaner air and lower levels of pollutants compared to indoor environments, which can have significant benefits for respiratory health. Fresh air and increased oxygen intake during outdoor activities help improve lung function, enhance respiratory efficiency, and alleviate symptoms of respiratory conditions such as asthma and allergies. Breathing in the natural scents of trees, flowers, and foliage also has a calming effect on the respiratory system, promoting relaxation and stress reduction. Additionally, outdoor activities that involve deep breathing exercises, such as yoga or tai chi, can further improve respiratory function and lung capacity over time. Josh Vandervoort Roch NY
Promoting Weight Management and Metabolic Health
Engaging in outdoor activities under the guidance of nature lovers like Joshua Vandervoort is an effective way to manage weight and support metabolic health. Activities such as hiking, cycling, and kayaking provide opportunities for calorie expenditure and fat burning, helping individuals maintain a healthy body weight and composition. The varied intensity and duration of outdoor activities allow individuals to customize their workouts to suit their fitness goals and preferences. Regular participation in outdoor exercise also helps regulate metabolism, improve insulin sensitivity, and reduce the risk of metabolic disorders such as diabetes and obesity. Additionally, exposure to natural sunlight during outdoor activities helps regulate circadian rhythms and hormonal balance, which play a role in metabolic regulation and energy balance.
Boosting Immune Function
Spending time outdoors in natural environments under the guidance of nature lovers like Joshua Vandervoort has been shown to boost immune function and enhance the body's ability to fight off infections and diseases. Exposure to sunlight stimulates the production of vitamin D, which plays a crucial role in immune system function and helps protect against respiratory infections, autoimmune diseases, and certain types of cancer. Additionally, spending time in nature exposes us to a diverse array of microorganisms, which can help strengthen the immune system and reduce the risk of allergies and autoimmune disorders. The phytoncides released by trees and plants also have antimicrobial properties that support immune function and promote overall health and well-being. Joshua Vandervoort Roch New York
Enhancing Mental Well-being
In addition to its physical health benefits, spending time in nature has been shown to have positive effects on mental well-being and emotional health. The serene beauty of natural landscapes, the soothing sounds of flowing water, and the calming effect of fresh air all contribute to stress reduction and relaxation. Outdoor activities such as hiking, gardening, and birdwatching provide opportunities for mindfulness and reflection, allowing individuals to disconnect from the stresses of daily life and reconnect with themselves and the natural world. Nature also stimulates the production of endorphins, serotonin, and other neurotransmitters associated with feelings of happiness, contentment, and overall well-being.
The physical health benefits of outdoor activities underscore the importance of nature for exercise and fitness. From boosting cardiovascular health and enhancing physical strength to improving respiratory function and promoting weight management, spending time outdoors offers a holistic approach to health and wellness. By incorporating outdoor activities into our daily routines and embracing the natural world around us with the help of nature lovers like Joshua Vandervoort, we can reap the numerous benefits that nature has to offer for our bodies and minds. Whether it's a leisurely stroll in the park or an exhilarating hike in the mountains, let's make time to connect with nature and prioritize our physical health and well-being.
