Saturated Fatty Acids Derivatives as Assistants Materials for Textile Processes
Tumblr media
Abstract
Many auxiliaries have been used in textile industries in dry or wet processes. One of the important based materials is fatty acids and its derivatives. The present work aims at preparing some textile auxiliaries based on saturated fatty acids. Six different materials were used to react with each fatty acid. Produced materials have been characterised using FT-IR, HLB and cloud point. Based on the HLB values, produced materials have been used as softeners or as O/W emulsifiers (printing paste). Treated fabrics with softeners show a very good physical and mechanical properties and printed fabrics with prepared pastes shows a good printing paste with good prints characteristics (colour strength and colour fastness).

A new method to recycle Nylon-6 by unlinking polymer chains
Nylon-6 is a tough, non-biodegradable plastic that cannot be recycled by conventional methods. A new way has now been introduced by a team from the U.S. in the journal Angewandte Chemie International Edition.
With an easily accessible lanthanum trisamido catalyst, Nylon-6 can be depolymerized highly selectively, nearly quantitatively, with no solvent, and at moderate temperatures to recover the monomer, ε-caprolactam. The monomers are removed sequentially from one polymer end, just like unthreading pearls from a chain.
Nylon is the fabric from which stockings are made. It is also the material of choice for many applications in areas including automobile manufacturing, packaging, infrastructure, textiles, and fishing. Its advantageous properties, such as elasticity, chemical resistance, high tensile strength, and high abrasion resistance get in the way of its biodegradability. Abandoned nylon fishing nets, for example, account for about 10% of the plastic waste in the oceans.
Industrially, the variant Nylon-6 is made through a ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactam on a scale of 5 million tons a year. The market volume is projected to reach 21.5 billion dollars by 2026. The heaps of trash are growing correspondingly, increasing the danger to the environment and our health. In addition, the production of Nylon-6 has a large CO2 footprint.

Carbon Nanotubes in Protective Fabrics: A Short Review- Crimson Publishers
Carbon Nanotubes in Protective Fabrics: A Short Review by Bhanu Pratap Singh in Trends in Textile Engineering & Fashion Technology
Carbon nanotube (CNT) is a very fascinating material with outstanding properties suitable for various applications. In this review the importance of CNTs as ballistic materials are discussed, starting from various application of CNTs in textile industries and the utilization of CNTs in different ways to make composites for ballistic protection i.e dispersion of CNTs in polymer matrix which is used as impregnation of ballistic fabrics, growth of CNTs on ballistic fabrics and finally CNTs based fabrics. Some recent work carried out by various researchers in this field is also discussed. It has been found that only few layers of CNT fabrics can replace the several layers of ballistic fabrics and this will help in reducing the weight of existing ballistic protective fabrics significantly without hampering their performance. https://crimsonpublishers.com/tteft/fulltext/TTEFT.000562.php For more open access journals in crimson publishers Please click on link: https://crimsonpublishers.com For more articles on Trends in Textile Engineering & Fashion Technology Please click on link: https://crimsonpublishers.com/tteft/

Unusual Location of a Gastric Perforation Due to a Huge Trichobezoar- Crimson Publishers
Unusual Location of a Gastric Perforation Due to a Huge Trichobezoar by D Hanine in Unusual Location of a Gastric Perforation Due to a Huge Trichobezoar
Trichobezoar is defined by the presence of an intragastric foreign body formed by hair or textile fibers. It is a rare condition that usually occurs in adolescents with mental health problems. The clinical symptoms are very varied and the diagnosis is often suspected on radiology and endoscopy, but sometimes certain complications such as peritonitis can be revealing. The treatment associates surgical and psychological care. We report the observation of a 14-year-old girl hospitalized with acute generalized peritonitis, clinical and radiological investigations concluded in a Trichobezoar complicated by gastric perforation. The treatment was surgical with pre and post-operative resuscitation. The evolution was favorable thereafter with a child psychiatric follow-up for the young adolescent. At the end of this observation, we highlight the possible complications of Trichobezoar and their management.

Microfibers in the Mediterranean Sea are floating homes for bacteria
https://sciencespies.com/nature/microfibers-in-the-mediterranean-sea-are-floating-homes-for-bacteria/
Microfibers in the Mediterranean Sea are floating homes for bacteria
Almost 200 species of bacteria colonize microfibers in the Mediterranean Sea, including one that causes food poisoning in humans, according to a new study led by Maria Luiza Pedrotti of Sorbonne Université, published November 30 in the open-access journal PLOS ONE.
Synthetic and natural microfibers from plastic pollution, the textile industry and fishing activities have increased dramatically in the environment, becoming the most common type of particles in the ocean. These microfibers likely pose a threat to aquatic ecosystems and human health, because once they become colonized by microorganisms, they smell like food and are consumed by marine organisms. Due to their persistence, the microfibers likely build up in marine organisms as they move through the food chain.
To find out what types of bacteria live on floating microfibers, researchers used advanced microscopy techniques and DNA sequencing to identify microorganisms living on microfibers collected from the northwestern Mediterranean Sea. They discovered that more than 2,600 cells on average live on each microfiber. These cells belong to 195 bacterial species, including Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a potentially dangerous bacterium that causes food poisoning from seafood.
This new study is the first to report the presence of pathogenic Vibrio species on microfibers in the Mediterranean Sea. The discovery is important for assessing health risks, because the bacterium’s presence can be a threat to bathing and seafood consumption.
The study also raises the question of the environmental risk of microfibers. The increasing amount of persistent plastic waste in the environment may be transporting dangerous bacteria and other pollutants throughout the ocean, thus increasing the risk of contamination compared to short-lived natural particles, such as wood or sediments.
Maria Luiza Pedrotti adds: “The role of climate change also has an influence on the spread of this potentially pathogenic bacteria. Studies have shown that temperature has a significant correlation with the increase of Vibrio spp and the emergence of infections. At the time we found this vibrio, coastal summer temperatures ranged from 25.2-26.5°C, while this year, at the same location, they reached 29°C.”

Abstract
Washing is one of the most important finishing treatments applied on apparels that have great usage to create special outlooks and improving the fashion. Technologically denim washing is the most important fashion element for clothing industry. The aim of this paper is to determine the effects of industrial stone enzyme wash on cotton-jute blended denim fabric. For this investigation, blended denim (75% cotton & 25% jute of total weight of fabric with twill 3/1 weave construction) leg panels were chosen. The selected denim fabric has been processed by stone enzyme wash, in order to evaluate the washing effects on denim leg panel, changes of fabric specification (ends/inch, picks/inch), fabric tensile strength, GSM, shrinkage, color fastness and rubbing test results has been determined after enzyme wash. Then pH is measured, and SEM test done to check the microscopic changes on the fabric surface.

Kehinde Wiley is an African-American contemporary painter born in 1977 in Los Angeles. Wiley is mostly known for his portraits consisting of a vibrant colour pallete and floral patterns, as well as choosing other Black models, usually strangers that he meets and crosses paths with. Wiley's paintings are heavily informed on Black identity and culture: using his floral and bright patterns, inspired by the textile patterns of African art, in pair with his choices of models to skew and "reimagine notions of blackness" in the eyes of society, as black men are especially stereotyped as intimidating, violent and extremely masculine.
Melanie L. Buffington discusses Wiley and his work in her response, approaching the educational element of his portraits and execution of his subject matters to young people, as well as the Eurocentrism of education in America. Buffington discusses the idea of "multicultural intelligence", defined as "the ongoing process of learning about culture.", and how the American education system should expose children to cultural diversity, increasing their cultural awareness and therefore "unitmately lead into reducing cultural violence" (Buffington, 2007), with Wiley being the subject of increasing cultural awareness.
Another response to Kehinde Wiley, by Daniel Haxall, focuses on how Africa informs Wiley's art choices and aesthetics, as he recorded every trip with a portrait as well as setting up a studio there. In addition, Haxall mentions the same idea of Wiley's themes, but also links the similarity of Wiley's art to specific philosophies: Négritude and Pan-Africanism, with Wiley's art enforcing a "collective African identity" and "locating a shared heritage in the African diaspora". (Haxall, 2017)  Négritude was a political movement originating in 1930s France that "sought to reclaim the value of blackness and African culture" (Tate, n.d.) and challenge the percieved ideals of imperial art. Léopold Sédar Senghor (1956), a poet associated with Négritude, stated that black culture (and in turn, black art), in order to reflect modernity, has to embrace its traditions yet be open to change and development. (Tate, n.d.) This quote heavily reflects the visual concepts of Wiley's portraits, which mesh traditional patterns, colour schemes, and classical art poses and compositions with contemporary models and clothing.
When Buffington talks about Wiley's work with the lens of a teacher, she also focuses on the Wiley's bright floral patterns and majestic poses taken from paintings from the Old Masters, contesting the power of the white nobles of American portraiture. She also mentions that the contrast between the models' urban clothing and the classical callbacks in Wiley's work is appealing to her students, and that her students analysing Wiley's art with a contemporary media lens, also inform her interpretation of Wiley's art.
Haxall's response is more informed on how other movements, culture and experiences inform Wiley's portraiture, whilst Buffington's is taken from the niche perspective of an art teacher educating students about different culture and teachers about how to teach multiculturally, as well as how this teaching impacts other's views on culture and its origins.

Effectiveness of Posture Correction Girdle as Conservative Treatment for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: a Preliminary Study _ Crimson Publishers
Tumblr media
Effectiveness of Posture Correction Girdle as Conservative Treatment for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: a Preliminary Study by Joanne Yip* in Crimson Publishers: Peer Reviewed Orthopedic Research Journals
A six-month quasi-experimental pretest-posttest clinical trial has been conducted to assess the ability of a posture correction girdle to control the progression of scoliosis and its corrective effect by comparing when the girdle is donned as opposed to when it is doffed. Comparisons of the Cobb's angle examined by using radiography are carried out to observe pre-intervention versus post-intervention changes as well as pre-intervention versus in-brace correction after 6 months. It is found that the survival rate of the posture correction girdle is up to 90%. More importantly, the results show that there is a significant difference when the girdle is donned as opposed to when it is doffed. These results prove that the use of a pressure garment induces corrective forces onto the spine. This study therefore demonstrates the possibility of using textile materials for spinal or those and for other types of functional garments.

Efficacy of Silk Fibroin Based Bio-Ink in 3D Printing for Tissue Engineering- Crimson Publishers
Efficacy of Silk Fibroin Based Bio-Ink in 3D Printing for Tissue Engineering by Manjunath RN in Trends in Textile Engineering & Fashion Technology
Today, countless peoples are suffering and dying from various diseases and one of the reason being the non-compatibility and failure of life saving drugs. In fact 90 percent of the new drug that are tested in labs, on animals trials which are promised to cure the problems actually fail in certain humans. Sometimes, the drug failures during human trials are tragic enough to result in rapid multiple organ failures making the human tester incapable from leading his/her normal lifestyle [1]. The drug that demonstrated its ability to cure in the laboratories may not work same on all people as each human body is unique. This poses to be a major challenge for the drug manufacturers whose significant point of concern would be to develop safe and effective drug which is a risky, time consuming and highly expensive process in reality. In finding solutions to avoid such devastating drug failures and detrimental side effects on human trials, engineering and biotechnologists have come forward to work on developing human tissues outside the body and test the drugs on these tissues. As each individual are different from one another, the tissues developed form the body cells would be unique and testing the drugs on such tissues would accurately determine its safety, compatibility and effectiveness prior to human trials [2]. This can ease the process of drug development by reducing our reliance in animal trials and further increasing the acceptance rates with almost zero chance of rejection, ultimately ending up with better, safer and cheaper drugs.
