I wanted a new, simple, non computer oriented hobby to do in the middle of the night, and decided to take up wood carving, because I am an old man. I started on an elephant, which is now vaguely elephant shaped, and whose name is Lumpy.
I just used chisels but i got a dremel too. Good thing about elephants is they're easy to approximate. Everyone knows what they look like. They're one of the platonic solids. But I am enjoying this hobby a lot, even though I have invented new uncomfortable ways to sit.

both of my BG3 characters are these tiny girls (one silly, one angry) while my actual, current tabletop DnD character is an old half-orc grandpa who's got a bad back and five grandkids whom he loves more than anything.

On the one hand, I like more complexly analyzing Halsin through a lore lens using literary analysis, and examining his backstory and his experience of trauma and how it may have affected his life as a character, and reaching for depth there in order to evoke strong emotion in me.
But then on the other, I just have to remember he canonically says: "There is little I cannot whittle" and I cry into my hands.

Rereading TOG for the first time in years and you know what is so damn funny about Rowan and Aelin? That they just so casually can communicate telepathically and don’t think anything of it for SO long
Like, beloveds, 👁️👄👁️ be so serious

Terrible when a song is so good and has a line or verse that hits so insanely hard but you can’t recommend it to people because it’s fucking 9 minutes long.

I know I'm supposed to be taking a break, but I just wanted everyone to know that Rafal started trolling me as a northern flicker. Every morning this literal shit bird pecks away at my chimney cap, sounding like a machine gun, so now I have to hire someone to install bird spikes (which don't harm birds, only deter them from landing) on it.

Old Man of the Woods
Strobilomyces sp.
This shaggy, dusky mushroom is in the bolete family and can be hard to find because it often blends in with leaf litter or pinecones.

Remembering that time when I was five and didn’t even know filters existed—never mind knowing how to stop talking—and I was out with my grandmother (divorced from my grandfather) having a lovely day in a lovely little Maine town in the 90s.
The thing about Maine in the 90s was certain things like smoking weed was illegal across the country and generally frowned upon, but Mainers simply Did Not Care and more than happily grew and smoked pot anyway. The other thing about Maine is most of those Lovely Little Towns are constantly full of out of state tourists coming to buy kitch and eat lobster. These tourists tended to be from states that generally did not have the same attitude about pot as Mainers did. It was still considered a Very Bad Thing To Do.
So when my five year old self saw an older gentleman smoking a classic tobacco pipe amongst a crowd of tourists I remarked, on the top of my lungs, that my grandfather had a pipe too! Not that kind of pipe, though!
There was literally a beat of shocked silence before my grandmother laughed a little too loudly and said something about it being a different color or some nonsense. Of course no one, like, ratted out my five-year-old self and my grandfather out to the police for that. But there were definitely some shocked button-upped folks in that lovely little town that day.
Anyway, that was the one and only time I was a snitch.
