May I have this dance? (amedot fic)
One-Shot
Summary: 2. We were dancing but all of a sudden it’s a slow song and we’re standing here awkwardly staring at each other (Prompt)
Notes: So around a year ago, someone requested this for a prompt game. Originally this took over a week, due to brainstorming and being busy with school. I've rewritten this several times since, so it went from 800 words to 1000 to 1700 to now over 2000 words. I completely changed the ending back in December, so that's why it's way longer. I'm pretty happy with how it came out, because it doesn't feel as fast paced as it was before and I worked really hard on this fic. (Update/Edit)
Word Count: 2365 words

It was the evening of Steven’s fifteenth birthday. August 15th. And of course they were celebrating the occasion by throwing a party for him. It was just the gems, Connie, and Steven’s dad, Greg. They were all on the dance floor that had been set up by Greg and Bismuth earlier in the day. Unsurprisingly, Steven and Connie were dancing together, as Lapis stood off to the side. She wasn’t really that much of a dancer. She stood off to the side with Greg, watching him dj music. Garnet, Bismuth, and Pearl had been chatting the night away. And then there was Amethyst and Peridot, who were dancing together as well.
After one song finished, another one started playing. The mood of the song had changed from a tone that sounded fun to a tone that was more so slow and calm. It almost even sounded romantic. ‘Oh my stars. The dance for this sound would be slow dancing? Wouldn’t it?’ Sometime ago, after watching an episode of Camp Pining Hearts, Peridot’s curiosity got the best of her, so she decided to look up what a slow dance was, the definition being ‘a type of partner dance in which a couple dance slowly, swaying to the music, usually done to very slow-beat songs, namely sentimental ballads.’ Peridot then looked over at the purple quartz, almost like she was now staring at her, as Amethyst awkwardly stood there, staring back. Both wondering if the other gem would even want to.
After at least a couple of seconds of just awkwardly standing there and staring at each other, Amethyst finally spoke up, breaking the silence between them and risking the chance of being rejected, asking “Peridot, may I have this dance?” in a tone that came off as daring and bold but also tense, nervous, anxious..
Amethyst then gently pulled her in, firmly but also gently placing her hand onto Peridot’s hip. Peridot, in response, put her left hand on Amethyst’s arm, with her right hand locked in with Amethyst’s right hand. The rhythm of their bodies slowly danced with the sentimental and passionate music. Peridot found herself trembling and shaking, with her cheeks burning as they had now turned into a light shade of blue, admiring how beautiful Amethyst was. Her chest felt a mix of so many different things. It felt heavy. It felt tingly. It felt like her chest was pounding to the point where it might burst. ‘Stop staring at her like that you clod!’ Peridot told herself in an effort to stop herself from staring at Amethyst, secretly praying that she would never notice how flustered she was. How head over heels she was.
She then looked down, so she wouldn’t stare at Amethyst anymore, and so it wouldn’t be noticeable that she was a complete mess. And yeah, she was a complete mess. She was trembling, blushing, and she had so many weird feelings in her chest. After about 30 or so more seconds of dancing, Peridot finally looked back up at Amethyst as she had told her to. Her breathing had now become little of depth, and her chest now practically felt like it was racing, merely seconds away from bursting. Her face was now incredibly close to Amethyst’s, as she felt her lips inching closer to Amethyst’s. She caught herself, immediately pulling away.
“I.. I have to go,” Peridot stammered as she had nothing else to say to her in an attempt to flee. She was now looking away from Amethyst, avoiding eye contact altogether. She then ran off, disappearing from sight.
Amethyst just stood there, now alone on the dance floor. She was incredibly confused and nearly in disbelief, but also somewhat hurt, with the feeling like she had been punched in the gut. She felt rejected. She felt incredibly stupid, for even asking Peridot to slow-dance with her, because she should’ve known it was a dumb idea. She then buried her face into her hands, frustrated and mad at herself, ‘Ugh. I.. I really messed up this time. I should have known she was gonna get super uncomfortable. I should’ve known that things were gonna get really weird and awkward. This is all my fault.. I should’ve never asked her to slow-dance.. I mean.. why would she want to slow dance with me anyways? ...I know I wouldn’t want to..’ After taking a minute or two to collect her thoughts, she ran after Peridot, following her into the beach house, which was half-way through being renovated. It was pitch dark inside the beach house, and completely silent. She turned on the lights, now slowly and quietly walking. “..Peridot?” She then asked, the tone of her voice being cautious. No response. “Peri, is.. Is everything okay?” Still no response. ‘She has to be in the bathroom.’ And so she was. Just sitting there, by herself, hiding her face in her knees, which she was hugging. “Oh man, Peridot.” She sighed, “Per.. I’m sorry.. I should’ve never asked you to slow dance..”
After a few seconds of complete silence between the two, Peridot finally spoke up, in a quiet and muffled but clearly pained and frustrated sounding tone of voice, “You asking me to slow dance was not the problem.”
“Oh? Then.. what’s wrong, P-Dot? Did I.. did I do something back out on the dance floor to upset you?” Amethyst asked. She was now confused, as her asking Peridot to slow-dance when she didn’t want to was not the problem, like she had thought previously. But, what else would have upset her?
“No, no.. You were not the problem, Amethyst. Not at all. You did nothing wrong,” Peridot said in response. She then lifted her head from her knees and looked up at the purple quartz, her cheeks now a light shade of blue. She sighed, “I am just.. Incredibly embarrassed… That is all.”
“Embarrassed? Wait, why?” Amethyst asked, surprise and confusion written all over her face. What would Peridot have to be embarrassed about?
“Because!” Peridot blurted out in obvious frustration. She was mad. Mad at herself. Mad that she ran off like that. Mad that she couldn’t even slow-dance with Amethyst without embarrassing herself and making herself look like a complete fool, she was mad. “Ergh!” She shouted, not knowing what else to say to Amethyst as she frustratedly tugged on her hair. Realizing how upset she was getting, she then paused and took a deep breath to calmly collect herself. “Amethyst, it’s not that I didn’t want to slow dance with you.. Because, frankly, I did. I did want to slow dance with you. And If I didn’t want to, I would have said so. But I kept staring at you, and I was trembling, and blushing. I even think my hands were sweaty? But frankly, I was just a mess. And it was just very.. embarrassing.”
“Ohh, right..,” Amethyst mumbled. She then took a step closer towards the bathtub. “..Is it.. Is it because you don’t like it when I touch ya or whatever? ‘Cause, I’ve noticed that ya’ve gotten super uncomfortable whenever I do, and I - uh - can back off if ya want me to. Y’know? If I’m ever making ya uncomfortable in anyway, just say so. Okay?”
“No! That is not what I meant! ..Amethyst, I do like it when we touch.. A lot! ..Almost too much.. But, I hate the way it makes me feel when we touch.. Because whenever you do touch me, I just, freeze up or blush or all of the above.. Because I like you so much,” Peridot rambled, making frustrated hand gestures as she admitted her feelings for the other gem. “And, I know you have noticed. That’s why I ran off.. Because I was incredibly embarrassed of you noticing how flustered I was.”
“Ugh.. Peridot..,” Amethyst groaned as she buried her face into her hands.
“W-what? Did I say something wrong?” Peridot asked her, now confused but also concerned that she might have said something that upset or weirded out Amethyst by the tone of her voice.
“You’re.. You’re not the only one who becomes a complete mess. Whenever I’m around you, you make me feel so mushy... Like. all. The time.” Amethyst made frustrated hand gestures and tugged on strands of her hair as she spoke about how Peridot made her feel. Now she was blushing herself. Peridot gave her a confused look in response, she had never noticed Amethyst ‘become a complete mess’ when she was around her. Maybe it was just that Peridot was rather oblivious to it. “It’s lame. Right?” She then sighed and crossed her arms. “I just..really hate that I love the way you make me feel.”
Peridot gave Amethyst a weak but also the most softest and gentle smile, as it made her really happy to hear Amethyst say all of that, “I’m glad that you feel the same way..”
“Good..,” Amethyst said, smiling back at her. She then walked towards the tub and lent her hand out to Peridot, “So, you want help out of the tub?”
“Yes, please..”
“Okay..,” Peridot slipped her fingers into Amethyst’s, grabbing onto her as Amethyst helped her up. She then carefully stepped out of the tub, her fingers still laced through Amethyst’s. This got Amethyst to impulsively ask, “So, what if I held your hand?”
In response, Peridot looked at her, bewildered. She then asked, “Like how you’re holding it right now?” as she lightly squeezed Amethyst’s hand.
“Mmm, yeah.”
Peridot gave her a simple response of “It feels..nice..” To her, even the brush of Amethyst’s thumb against her palm felt amazing, and lit her up inside. “But, at the same time I feel nervous, but that’s okay because I like getting to hold your hand.”
“So, uh, what if I kissed your hand?” Amethyst asked in an unusually shy manner. She was now blushing, with a tender but almost nervous look on her face. “Would that be okay?”
“Yes.”
Amethyst slowly lifted one of Peridot’s hands, the one that she was holding, up to the level of her lips. She then gently and softly kissed it.
And even though it was just a small kiss on the hand, the color of Peridot’s cheeks turned into a light blue, now overwhelmed with the feeling of butterflies swirling in her stomach, the feeling of her cheeks burning.
“Was that.. Was that okay?” Amethyst asked, noticing how Peridot’s face was now burning, as she had looked rather uncomfortable.
“Yes..”
“You sure?” Amethyst asked her. “Because, I don’t wanna pressure ya into doing this stuff if it makes ya uncomfortable. Y’know?”
“Amethyst.. It’s okay,” Peridot softly spoke, reassuring her, as she squeezed the nervous gem’s hand and gave her a loving smile to let her know everything was okay. And this then led to them just staring at each other, admiring the other gem and how pretty they were. Amethyst was just so beautiful. Her long, thick, and messy lavender hair, her little nose, her full and plump lips, her big blue eyes, and everything about her body. It was so hard for Peridot to not stare at her just because of how pretty she thought Amethyst was. “So, what if you kissed me?” Peridot blurted out, asking from a sudden impulse.
Amethyst’s eyes widened out of surprise, her lips now parted. She then asked, “You want me to kiss you?”
“Yes..? Is that bad..?” Peridot asked her, as the tone of Amethyst’s voice and the look on her face had concerned her that kissing would be a bad idea.
“No, dude, not at all. I guess, it’s just, I dunno, surprising?”
“Amethyst, out on the dance floor, I.. I tried to kiss you,” Peridot admitted to her, now blushing out of embarrassment and avoiding making eye contact with Amethyst. She then took a deep breath and looked back at Amethyst again, asking “How is it surprising that I want to kiss you?”
“Wait, what?” Amethyst asked her in a higher-pitched voice, being louder than she had intended, now even more surprised then she was before. “You actually tried to kiss me?”
“Yes, I did. That would be another reason for why I ran off. I nearly kissed you, and I thought that you would not want the same and I didn’t want to overstep a boundary, so I ran off.”
“Of course I want to kiss you, Peridot!” Amethyst exclaimed, now visibly blushing.
“You do?” Peridot asked. Now it was Peridot’s turn to be surprised as Amethyst had been rather subtle about her feelings for Peridot in the past.
“Yes. I do. For so long, I’ve wanted to kiss you, badly. But I was never able to because I was so scared of messing things up, and me being completely clueless to it, thought that you would never want the same.”
Suddenly feeling brave, Peridot got closer to her, now stroking Amethyst’s palm with her thumb, softly and quietly saying into her ear “Well.. nothing’s stopping you from doing so now.”
Amethyst looked at her with softest but also most flirtatious smile on her face. As Amethyst’s face inched closer to hers, Peridot’s chest started to race again, the pounding getting faster and faster. She could feel herself getting closer to Amethyst, tilting her head and closing her eyes, feeling Amethysts breath against her lips. She could see how dark Amethyst’s cheeks were. And then it happened. She was the one who gently placed her lips onto the other gem’s lips, giving into the strong urge she had lived with for months of wanting to kiss her. She then wrapped her arms around Amethyst’s neck, as Amethyst grabbed her waist, kissing her back, which deepened the kiss and stole Peridot’s breath. They then pulled away, heavily breathing and giving themselves a few seconds, but then their lips met, again, and again, and again. She then looked at the purple gem who looked blown away. Entranced. Head over heels for Peridot.
“Holy smokes..,” Peridot managed to spit out, as she was completely blown away by their first kiss and still holding onto Amethyst. They then let go of each other.
“So, uh, how do you feel now?” Amethyst asked her, giving Peridot a lopsided smile.
“A-A lot? I feel.. A lot.” She bit down on her lips, clamming them shut, attempting to calm her gasps. The echoes of her beating heart began grasping at her throat, trying to escape from her rib cage, fighting the bones holding it hostage. “But, I do know that kissing is something I would like to do more.”
"Heh, yeah, I.. feel a lot of things right now too, but I definitely know I wanna kiss ya more," Amethyst smiled, moving the hair out of her face. After a few moments of silence and smiling lovingly at each other, Amethyst spoke up, saying, "Soo, d'ya wanna go back outside now? I mean, we don't have to buttt.. I'm pret-ty sure that the others have noticed we ran off by now, and are probably wondering what's up.. Heh, maybe they assumed we ran off to make out or somethin' like that," Amethyst rambled. She then looked over at Peridot, who was visibly blushing out of slight embarrassment. "But anyways, I'm rambling...so..?"
"Yeah," She replied, cracking a small smile. "We probably should."
Amethyst reached for Peridot's hand, slipping her fingers in-between hers. "Is this.. okay?" She stared into Peridot's nervous eyes, watching as her mouth fell agape, in a surprising manner. The purple quartz began to quickly pull her hand away from the other gem's hold. "W-we don't have to if you don't want to."
Peridot reached for Amethyst's hand, grabbing it back, managing to stutter out, "N-no!" She froze, embarrassed from raising her voice.
Amethyst fought to keep herself from laughing, only to fail. She started with a toothy smile. She then began giggling, and finished with uncontrollable laughter. She shut her eyes as she teared up, wiping the tears from her face.
Peridot blushed, feeling singled out. "Hey.. stop," She quietly begged, awkwardly smiling at the other gem.
Opening her eyes, Amethyst noticed she made Peridot feel rather uncomfortable. She stopped herself from laughing out of respect for her girlfriend. "Sorry, P-dot," She apologized, grabbing hold of Peridot's hand again. "It's just that- y'know- we're starting out with all of this ..uh, stuff?" She tried to explain herself, "And um.. I'm just as nervous as you are, okay? I'm.. sorry. I've just never had this kind of relationship before and I don't really know how to act. Y'know?" She squeezed Peridot's hand, hoping it would help the situation.
"I.. don't exactly know how to act either, Amethyst," Peridot started, "It's like.. we were friends a couple of hours ago and now we're.." She averted her gaze, studying the tiles of the bathroom floor below them. She then looked up back at Amethyst, "What are we?"
"Uh, I dunno, girlfriends?"
"Yeah, girlfriends..," She giggled, with a lopsided smile across her face. She then sighed, "... What I’m saying is that I've never been in a romantic relationship before either."
This got a small chuckle out of Amethyst, "Well, I'm glad to know I'm not alone on that." She peered down at their intertwined hands and then looked back up at Peridot, with a shy look on her face, "So this is okay, right?"
"It's.. perfect," The green gem softly smiled at her. Amethyst smiled back, leaning forward and pecking Peridot's cheek. This got Peridot to giggle, and an unmistakable blush appear across her face. They then walked out together, holding hands.

GAY PEOPLE TIME
• when or if I started shipping it: I ACTUALLY HAVE NO IDEA... i think it was just realizing how much i hated Every Pearl Ship before remembering how many funny moments they had together
• my thoughts: WASTED POTENTIAL CENTRAL ... Take the Chaotic Good and Chaotic Neutral moms and they have such a funny and casual dynamic thats SO FUN any time they can interact together??
• What makes me happy about them: Garnet canonically helps Amethyst past the worst of her self loathing as a fellow misfit gem if you ESP think about Sugilite in the Good Half of “Coach Steven”, and amethyst encourages garnet to be less Serious and tap into her inner dumbass... theres a level of ease around each other you dont really see until Bismuth shows up to be The Best Character
• What makes me sad about them: pearl existing  Tho mainly just. no one really sees the value of garnet being with someone she more or less is on equal terms with? so like. theres No Content since it isnt as Spicy as Pearlnet or whatever
• things done in art/fic that annoys me: i wish i read enough stevworld fic to answer that lmao
• things I look for in art/fic: GOOFY GARNET!!! ame and garnet doing Some Hoodrat Shit and just being funny and chaotic in the dry way that garnet is and the bombastic way ame is
• Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: for both, PERIDOT 100%, for amethyst, maybe lapis, and for garnet, definitely bismuth and her to become Platonic Lavender Buddies with Greg?
• My happily ever after for them: for them to have fun as sugilite Please I Am On My Knees, Rebecca
• what is their favorite activity : probably going to buffets or bonding over stoner comedies on the days that everyone else is out Chillin

Autumn Amedot Week Prompt 1; Halloween. A Halloween night that was meant to be fun turns nightmarish as Peridot faces the ultimate horror movie scenario.
(I’m not really 100% happy with this, but I really wanted to do SOMETHING for Amedot Week, so here we are.)
FULL FIC UNDER THE CUT AS WELL
“Hey, it’s me. If you’re a telemarketer, please leave me alone. Otherwise, leave a message after the beep. Maybe I’ll get back to you in the next millennia, but you really should just message me on Facebook. What’re you doing calling my phone, anyway? What is this, the early 2000s? Who do you think I-” The message tone cut off the girl with its blaring beep, and Peridot rolled her eyes.
“Amethyst, it’s Peridot,” Peridot started, giving Pumpkin’s leash a light tug to guide her away from a temptingly muddy puddle on the grassy side of the sidewalk. She scuffled along in her hard-soled slippers, her costume makeup already done. The Pomeranian bounced on ahead of her, sniffing at a small bush with shriveled flowers. “You were supposed to be at my house two hours ago! Where are you?! We’re already late for the party as it is, but now you’ve marred yourself as a completely unreliable ride! Anyway, call me back when you get this message so I know you’re not dead in a ditch. Or text me, whatever.” With a huff, Peridot aggressively tapped the hang up button and stuffed her phone into her sweatshirt pocket as a gust of cool night wind buffeted against her hooded head.
It had rained all day but despite the swamped yards and treacherous, pot-hole filled roads, trick-or-treaters young and old braved the neighborhood streets. Half of her own bowl of candy had already been picked through. Peridot hadn’t even planned to be at home this year, she was supposed to be at a party away from yelling children. Instead, she had been answering the door over and over and over for two hours straight, and finally said fuck it and escaped out the back door with her pet, leaving the bowl of candy to the mercy of children who didn’t understand the meaning of ‘take two’!
Admittedly, the young woman felt a little dorky out and about with a faceful of makeup by herself. She feared some people thought she was a middle schooler on the prowl for candy as well, but she was 22 and far too old for such traditions… At least to be doing it by herself. ‘No,’ she thought to herself, ‘Seriously, I’m way too old to be trick-or-treating. Yeah, Halloween parties with like-minded adults dressed in overly sexualized costumes of mustard bottles is more my speed… Ugh.’
Amethyst had the audacity to invite her to a cruddy party, insist that it wouldn’t be the same without her, then fall completely off the grid when it came time to pick her up? Her excuse better be that she was dead in a ditch. That would be sufficient enough.
“C’mon, Pumpkin,” Peridot cooed at her dog, whose tail wagged madly in response. “Let’s head back, I guess. Maybe Ames will make an appearance soon…” A shiver ran down her spine as she gazed out into the dark, open street. Leaves swirled into eerie figures in the distance. “…Hopefully.” Suddenly feeling nervous, Peridot scooped up her puppy and cradled her close, speed walking in the direction they had come from. Most of the swarms of costumed children had moved on from this street and onto the next, and her block of houses was nearly abandoned. She could spot her homey one-story abode in the distance and broke into a hurried jog.
She took her front steps two at a time and dug through her back sweatpants pockets with one hand, Pumpkin safely tucked under her arm, frantically searching for her house keys. A presence loomed somewhere nearby, and she swore she heard something shuffling in the brush, but when she glanced back, there was nothing. Shaking her head in hopes of dispelling the irrational paranoia, she then checked her sweatshirt pocket for the keys, but couldn’t find them there either. With a frustrated groan, she descended the stairs once again and went to reach into the cranberry bush beside the rails-
“RAHH!” A masked figure leaped out of the bush beside her, waving around a chainsaw that roared to life. Peridot yelped, jumping back with eyes wide, but a second later grew oddly calm.
“C’mon, Amethyst, you need to try harder than that!” The figure lowered her weapon in defeat, letting the growl of the fake prop die off. She lifted her Jason-styled killer hockey mask from her face, revealing cat whiskers and a severe black winged cat eye. “Everyone knows Jason doesn’t have a chainsaw, that’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre! Get it? Texas Chainsaw Massacre?”
Amethyst cracked a cheeky grin, rubbing her elbow. “Aww, shucks. I thought I could get you pretty good! Why didn’t you shit yourself?”
“Because,” with a snort, Peridot gave her girlfriend a playful shove to the shoulder. “You’re not exactly the most intimidating person, even behind the mask. I mean- you’re scary, just not in that way.” Amethyst’s face dropped, and she pouted.
“You’re too harsh. And critical. And a giant nerd,” with each verbal jab, she poked Peridot’s ticklish sides, making the woman squirm and jerk away.
“Hey, stop that-!” Holding in a bubble of giggles, Peridot escaped the attack and reached back into the cranberry bush for the hidden key that she had velcroed to the side of the staircase. “What’s wrong with you, anyway? Do you know how late you are?” Amethyst snatched Pumpkin from Peridot’s arms, kissing her all over her tiny dog face and cooing sweetly.
“I know, Pumpkin, isn’t Mommy such a hardass? Say it with me, ha-r-d-ass!” The puppy yipped in response, her entire fluffy body wiggling in the girl’s grip. Peridot unlocked the front door at last with a clunk, and she grabbed the now-barren candy bowl that sat on the porch chair.
“Hey! Shut up, you’re the hardass,” the blonde countered, pulling off her hood and letting her messy mop of bleached hair free. “Hold on, I gotta get dressed still.”
“Well come on! Hurry up! What’re you waiting for?!”
“I’m not the one who disappeared for two hours!” Peridot snapped, lingering at the front door entrance as Amethyst hopped up the porch stairs after her. “Where were you, anyway?”
“Oh, you know, just… somewhere.” With a sneaky wink, Amethyst set Pumpkin down on the floor and the puppy scurried off to the living room. Peridot raised a skeptical eyebrow, but decided it would be best not to question further. Instead, she spun around and rounded the corner to the bathroom, where her costume, a knee-length black witch dress, was laid out on the sink counter. She kicked the door shut, then stripped off her sweatshirt and sweatpants, slipping into the itchy dress. She topped off her costume with a large, pointed witch hat, and leaned in close to the mirror to check on her dramatic green eyeshadow and black lipstick. If there was one thing she still adored about Halloween, it was the costumes. Even if she was being dragged to a shitty basement party, it was worth it.
Satisfied with her look, Peridot rushed from the bathroom, tossed a few treats to her pet, and locked the front door. Her ring of keys sat on the side table next to the coat rack, and she cursed herself for forgetting about them before going for her short walk. She grabbed them and popped them into her small shoulder bag, double-checking she also had her phone, then bound out the door. “We’re already late, you know how I feel about that.”
“I know, I know,” Amethyst snorted, taking Peridot’s hand and walking her to the car, where she opened the passenger door and bowed jokingly. “You can’t stand it. How will you be able to go on?” Dramatically, Amethyst slammed the door shut and danced her way around the front of the car to the driver’s seat. Once in, she tossed her prop chainsaw and hockey mask into the backseat, alongside the littered trash and empty bottles of water. Peridot cringed, cautiously picking up a dirty-looking used napkin and chucking it behind her as well.
“I’ll live, but I don’t understand how you function like this.” The engine hacked and coughed its way to life and Amethyst backed out of the driveway, wheels squeaking and the frame of the car trembling from the effort. “Don’t you think it’s time for a new car…?”
“In this economy? Fuck no!” Amethyst retorted, straightening out the struggling vehicle as they got out onto the road. With a content sigh, she reclined back into the cushioned seat and reached a hand over to rest on Peridot’s thigh. “Relax, she’s fine. She’s a fighter, I’ll use her until the day she dies on me.”
Blushing, Peridot intertwined her fingers with her girlfriend’s, stacking their hands on top of her leg. “You’re so stubborn.” “Yeah, but you love it. I know you do.” With a cheeky grin, Amethyst leaned over and planted a sneaky kiss on Peridot’s cheek, which the blonde quickly tried to wipe away, but to no avail. It left a small black stain, from Amethyst’s black upper-lip to imitate a cat’s mouth. Grumbling, Peridot shrugged.
“I guess, if you say so…” She hid a smile by turning her head, gazing out the window as they exited her homey neighborhood and headed out onto the busier main road. “Where is this party, anyway?” To fill the car with some life, Amethyst flicked on the radio, leaving it on a station that was in the midst of a Halloween playlist.
“Up north, about 45 minutes. It’s this old haunted abandoned mansion, I’ve been there before-”
“Whoa whoa whoa,” Peridot recoiled, untangling their fingers and holding up her hands in defense. “I thought this was just gonna be one of your jackass basement parties. You didn’t mention the haunted mansion part!”
“It’s fine, you’re worrying too much! I don’t think it’s actually haunted or anything, it’s just a cool little place! It’s atmospheric.” Keeping her cool, Amethyst cranked up the music, successfully drowning out any further complaints that could’ve come from Peridot’s mouth with the hit song Monster Mash. Pouting, the blonde dodged an apologetic shoulder pat, swatting it away. “You’re gonna love it, I promise. We’ll have fun! It’s not even like a normal party. It’s fake-fancy, like there’s gonna be champagne and everyone’s gonna be in costume and in character- I thought you liked that kinda stuff!”
“I do, but…”
“But what? No butts allowed here, missy.” Stopping at a red light, right before the turn onto the highway, Amethyst tilted her head, pursing her lips together. “Don’t be a sourpuss. I invited you cuz I wanted you to come! A black cat needs her witch, and a witch needs her familiar, right? It wouldn’t have felt good if I had gone alone.” Peridot resisted Amethyst’s puppy dog eyes for as long as possible but quickly cracked under the pressure and gave her girlfriend the satisfaction of winning.
“Fine, you’re right. I just- hate scary places is all!” Peridot met Amethyst halfway over the middle console, pressing their lips together in a cold kiss.
“You? The one who binge watches horror movies even when it’s not Halloween? The one who watches these movies in the dark completely alone? You’re afraid of a little haunted house?” Amethyst stole another kiss before the light flickered green, and wrenched her car onto the highway. It whirred and wheezed as she picked up speed to merge into the main lanes. Peridot held on tight to the safety handle above the window.
“It’s- it’s different! All of those movies are fiction, but real life abandoned mansions are actually scary.” Surprisingly, there was very little traffic traveling down the expanse of road. Peridot watched as trees whizzed by, the street lamps doing little to illuminate the pitch black night.
“You’re silly. Why didn’t I scare you earlier, then? I thought I was pretty convincing.”
“Ugh, no. There’s a big difference between Jason Vorhees, you, and an actual murderer. I know you too well, you couldn’t even scare Steven.”
Amethyst scratched the back of her head, fluffing up her deep chocolate brown mane of hair. “Damn, I guess you’re right. I’ll leave the scaring to Jasper. I’m more of a romantic, anyway. Horror isn’t my genre.” The woman lifted her girlfriend’s hand to her lips, eyes wandering from the road ahead of her, and littered ticklish kisses along the back of her hand. Peridot giggled, thoroughly distracted as well.
Peridot spotted a figure standing in the middle of the highway lane in front of them, just out of the corner of her eye. She gasped, yanking her hand away from Amethyst. “Watch out-!” Amethyst jerked the wheel just in time, swerving out of the way of the darkened figure.
In the short second that it was caught in the headlights, Peridot could see it was holding something.
The car crunched as they barreled through the guardrails, and Peridot braced herself as they skidded down the steep incline and into the wooded area lining the highway. The radio turned to static and died out. They crashed into a tree, and the car spun sideways. The impact hit the driver’s side, crushing in the door and shattering the window into shards that flew everywhere. They flipped and tumbled a few times down the rest of the hill, before the vehicle creaked to a stop completely upside down.
Peridot pressed a hand against her pounding head. The airbag had deployed, but she had still banged her head against the side of the car’s frame, and she was bleeding from her forehead. Her seatbelt suspended her to the seat, but gravity pulled her downwards so she managed to undo the belt with a shaky hand. Still in shock, she reached over to tap Amethyst’s shoulder.
“Amethyst, are you okay?” Her heart dropped as she didn’t get a reply for a few seconds, but her girlfriend stirred with a groan.
“Fuck- no. I’m stuck.” As the girl lifted her head up, Peridot flinched as she realized not only did her girlfriend have slivers of glass sticking from her face, but her entire leg had been crushed under the pressure of the bent-in door. The girl tried to move it but hissed in pain, so Peridot gave her a stern shove.
“Stop, I’ll- I’ll call 911. Just leave it, you’re gonna end up ripping your own leg off.” Frazzled but attempting to compose herself, Peridot kicked out the passenger side window, which was already partially shattered, and crawled out the small space. She felt the pierce and prick of glass on the palms of her hands, but fought through the pain and fear until she felt soft grass and brittle leaves. Her witch dress was ripped down the side, enough to show her underwear, but that was the least of her worries as she dug out her phone, knees cold on the hard ground. She could barely dial the numbers, hands trembling as adrenaline pumped through her veins.
“Uh, Peridot…”  she heard Amethyst mutter, but as she pressed her phone against her ear she didn’t listen. “Peridot, there’s someone-” Peridot spun her head, ducking to peek into the wrecked car. Amethyst’s gaze drew out her window and up the hill they had just come down. The phone began to ring.
The figure they had nearly plowed right through was approaching, moonlight shining down on them but not revealing any details. Peridot rose to her feet, eyebrows scrunching together in question. “Hey, are you okay? What were you doing standing in the middle of the-”
The figure lifted the blade of a chainsaw into the sky, the silhouette of it stark against the glowing moonlight. It roared to life, and Peridot’s blood ran cold. Her phone slipped from her hand.
“Peridot, run!”
Paralyzed by fear, Peridot froze on the spot and could only watch as the figure broke into a jog, covering the distance between itself and their ruined car. It swung the chainsaw, and sparks flew as it hit the metal, slicing through it like butter and screeching like a banshee.
“I said run!”
Peridot’s legs screamed in protest as she took off, bolting away from the scene and zigzagging through trees. As she faded away into the darkness of the woods, Amethyst’s blood-curdling scream echoed through the space, sending a terrible shiver down Peridot’s spine. She ran and ran and ran as fast as she could, not sure what even laid on the other side of the woods. It could be nothing. This could’ve gone on for forever. But she ran nonetheless, tears pricking her eyes.
‘This isn’t real. This can’t be real.’
Out of breath, the girl hid behind a wide tree, curling up in the indent at the base of the trunk. She covered her own mouth, muffling the cries that wanted to jump from her throat. She sat for what felt like hours but must’ve only been minutes. Slowly, she peeked around the base of the tree and observed the murky darkness. The wind blew through the branches, making the wood creak and moan, but besides that, it was silent. She squinted into the pitch black.
There stood the figure.
She gasped, quickly hiding against the tree again. She squeezed her eyes shut, listening carefully as heavy footsteps circled around her, crunching leaves and twigs beneath its weight. She could’ve run again, but to where? Maybe the figure didn’t see her after all. Maybe this was all a dream. Maybe it was all a prank. She couldn’t put it past Amethyst to pull something so elaborate, especially with some help. Peridot’s heart clenched in terror as she carefully opened her eyes…
The killer stood before her, in one hand holding a bloody chainsaw and in the other Amethyst’s prop. They wore Amethyst’s hockey mask as well, as if to mock her victim. Peridot leaped in surprised as the killer tossed her the plastic chainsaw, toting their own weapon with both hands.
“C…come on now, this is a joke, right?” The killer tilted their head, hand on the chord, ready to rev up the weapon once again. “This is just some sick prank? Who are you, Lapis? Maybe Pearl? You didn’t actually kill Amethyst, right? She’s okay back there, laughing her ass off?” With their head still tilted, as if playing with prey, the figure gave the chainsaw chord a yank, and the engine roared to life once again. Peridot scrambled against the tree. There was no escape, no open space for her to sneak through. Even if she tried, she could be chopped to bits with ease.
“Okay, okay! Seriously! Amethyst, you got me! You got me for real this time, we’re seriously late to the party now! Was this worth it?!” Denial stained her last breaths, and Peridot shielded her face as the massive blade of the chainsaw swopped down towards her.
And it all went dark.

“Yes, And...”
A fic for Amedot Week Day 2: First Kiss
Summary: Amethyst and Peridot figure out yet another way to improve improv.
Rated: T
Peridot had had a lot of bizarre experiences since coming to Earth, and while she had gotten used to many of them, every once in a while, there was a moment so weird that she had to mentally step back and wonder: How did I get here?
Take now, for instance. Here she was on an Earth beach, on stage, surrounded by humans (plus one undersized but otherwise remarkable quartz), staring at a non-existent mountain in front of them figuring out how to climb it.
Just another night of improv class for the Beach City Laugh Guards.
Their teacher, Jamie, whistled and gazed into the starry sky. “Whew! That sure is one gigantic mountain! I hear only the bravest souls will DARE to climb it.” He flung the back of his hand against his forehead dramatically. “HowEVER will we make it up there?”
“I’ve got some rope,” declared Mr. Smiley, holding out his empty hand.
“No need!” Barb exclaimed. “It just so happens that yesterday, I invented this anti-gravity belt. We can float our way up the mountain!”
Peridot interrupted, pointer finger raised. “Actually, there’s no such thing as an anti-gravity belt. You mean anti-gravity shoes… otherwise known as gravity connectors. Obviously.”
Jaime sighed. “CUT! Time out, everybody.” Breathing deeply, he steepled his fingers against his lips, then brought them down and stared at Peridot with a hard look. “Peridot, if Barb says she has an anti-gravity belt, then she HAS an anti-gravity belt.”
Peridot felt Amethyst brush her arm as she came up alongside her. “Uh, dude, I think Peri would know. At one point, she pretty much, like, OWNED the equivalent of anti-gravity shoes.”
“Exactly! Thank you!” said Peridot. Not for the first time, Peridot felt a rush of gratitude that Amethyst was doing this class with her. She always had her back. Not to mention the fact that everything was so much more fun when Amethyst was around.
“Shoes or no shoes, that’s not the point,” Jaimie interjected. “You are forgetting the fundamentals of improv. This noble art is all about saying ‘yes’ to the creativity of your fellow performers.” He clenched his fist and thumped it to his chest in emphasis. “We come together as mere lumps of creative clay in the kiln of fellowship.” Eyes shining, Jamie opened his palm in a large swooping motion across the group. “And our imagination gives rise to a creation all our own!” he finished, voice breaking with emotion.
Peridot leaned sideways closer to Amethyst and whispered, “Is he crying?”
“Yep,” she replied, with a pop on the p sound at the end.
He glared. “I heard that. The point is, you can’t contradict the other cast members. It derails the whole scene; it throws people off. It doesn’t matter whether it’s shoes or belts. Barb made a belt, so in the context of this story, you have to agree with her. Ok? So, if Barb says she has an anti-gravity belt, you say?”
Peridot blinked. “I say, um, that’s right! You DO have an anti-gravity belt!” She patted Barb’s arm congenially. “But let’s use my gravity connectors, which are better because they actually exist.”
Jamie sighed again and covered his eyes with his hand. “Ok, here, why don’t we get back to basics and switch to a new game. Do you remember how to play ‘Yes, And’? One actor says something—”
“And I reply, ‘Yes, and.’ Then I add something else onto it. I remember.”
Across the stage laid an old, weathered hat on a tall table. Jamie reached inside and rummaged through the slips of paper inside. “Peridot and Amethyst, you two start things off using the worrrrd,” He grabbed a slip and peered at it. “Ring!” He paused a moment while the two gems centered themselves onstage. “Ready? Annnnnd, ACTION!”
Immediately, Amethyst dropped to one knee and mimed opening up a tiny hinged box. “Oh, darling Peridot! Light of my life, apple of my vision sphere: Will you marry me?”
Peridot snickered, then got control of herself. “Yes, and… let’s do it today!” She glanced to Jamie to see if that was the right thing to say.
“Good,” Jamie whispered, nodding. “Keep going!”
Amethyst pretended to slip a ring onto Peridot’s fingers. “Yes annnnnnnd…” She took a moment to think. “And luckily, we’re right in front of a Vegas chapel, so we can get married right now!”
Suddenly, Mr. Smiley slid into the scene. “Yes, and I’m the ordained minister. I would be happy to marry you lovely folks today.” He straightened up and cleared his throat, adopting a very solemn demeanor. “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here to witness the union of these two lovebirds in holy matrimony.”
Peridot jumped in mild surprise as Amethyst reached for both of Peridot’s hands and clasped them in her own. Even though she hadn’t had much experience with weddings, Peridot thought she remembered enough about them from TV to recognize that Amethyst was attempting to act like a real couple about to take their vows. Turning to face her and looking into her deep violet eyes, Peridot felt a twinge of an emotion she couldn’t quite name, so she dropped her eyes down to linger on their intertwined hands. There was a tingling feeling in her fingers, and when one of Amethyst’s thumbs brushed against Peridot’s, that feeling rushed all the way from Peridot’s hands, up her arm, and through every part of her.
Mr. Smiley turned to Amethyst. “Repeat after me: I, Dolly Parton, take thee, Princess Leia, to be my lawfully wedded wife.”
“Yes, I… Dolly Parton? What the… Are you seriou--” Amethyst caught the death glare from Jamie and continued on in a thick southern accent. “I, Dolly Parton, take thee, Princess Leia, to be my lawfully wedded wife.”
Mr. Smiley turned to Peridot. “And you, repeat after me: “I, Princess Leia, take thee, Dolly Parton, to be my lawfully wedded wife.”
Peridot cleared her throat and continued, “Yes, I, Princess Leia, take thee, Dolly Parton, to be my lawfully wedded wife.” At the last second, she added, “And I definitely know who that is, and I’m not confused at ALL.”
Chuckling, Mr. Smiley said, “Yes, and that’s a good thing, since you’re getting married. AND, I now pronounce you wife and wife! You may kiss the bride.”
Oh. She had forgotten that part of the ritual. Whipping her head back to face Amethyst, Peridot looked at her with wide eyes.
Amethyst looked taken aback first, but then she recovered and shrugged nonchalantly, “Meh, alright, yes. Pucker up, buttercup!” Leaning forward, she pursed her lips and made a high-pitched kissing noise that Peridot supposed was exaggerated for comedic effect.
Except there was nothing funny about the feeling of Amethyst’s hands in hers. Nothing funny about the way her soft hair fell forward and tickled the sensitive stretch of skin on Peridot’s forearms. Nothing funny about gentle curve of her inviting plump violet lips.
“Yes, and…” Peridot said weakly. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Barb, Jamie, and Mr. Smiley all looking on at the couple, waiting. She could hear a chuckle from Mr. Smiley. Peridot dropped Amethyst’s hands, and the purple gem’s eyes flew open. Peridot turned slightly and began to step back. “Annnd, I have some flavored lip gloss just for the occasion.” She was even closer to the edge of the stage steps now. “Let me just… grab it from home. Bye!”
She rushed away, leaving the rest of the Beach City Laugh Guards staring as she scurried away from the stage and across the beach.
Soon after, there was some debate about whether to call it a night or continue the class, especially once Amethyst had decided she should also leave to go find Peridot. Mr. Smiley felt especially bad about the whole thing, never having intended to make Peridot feel uncomfortable.
“She’ll be OK. You guys keep going!” Amethyst insisted. After all, with their next performance scheduled for tomorrow night, the group needed all the class time they could get to practice their improv skills.
And so, Amethyst set off on her own to search for her friend. Scanning the beach for any sign of the green gem, Amethyst tried to fight back the feeling of being discouraged. Not just about how long it was taking to find her but about the way the wedding scene had ended between them.
There was one particularly depressing thought that kept crossing Amethyst’s mind: ‘She’s a kindergartner whose whole job was to make gems come out the right way. She must be disgusted to kiss a defective gem like me.’ That was a harsh statement to make about herself, and probably not true. Amethyst knew this. Peridot must have just been nervous, that’s all. And just because Peridot hadn’t really shown any romantic interest in her didn’t mean she thought Amethyst was repulsive. Still, there was a tiny part of Amethyst that wondered.
Once Peridot was in eyesight, she was easy to spot with her bright green and yellow coloring and pyramid of hair, even at night. There she was, sitting on a large flat-topped rock in a deserted part of the beach, staring at the crashing waves.
Amethyst approached, clearing her throat quietly so as not to startle Peridot too much. “Hey. Mind if I sit here?”
Peridot still jumped. “Oh! Oh, Amethyst. Um, yes. Here.” She scooted over to make more room on the rock, and they both faced the deep blue ocean. It was sort of peaceful here, listening to the waves and seeing the bright expanse of stars shimming in the night sky. It might have been nice to just sit here in silence and enjoy the scenery, but certain things had to be said first.
“Hey listen,” Amethyst said hesitantly. “Forget about all that ‘You HAVE to say “Yes” all the time’ stuff from Jamie. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. OK?” Peridot didn’t say anything, so she continued, hoping a self-deprecating joke would break the tension. “I mean, I know I wouldn’t want to kiss me, so…”
Peridot stared at her feet, shuffling them through sand. “That’s not why I didn’t want to do it! You’d be a perfectly…. acceptable partner for kissing.”
“Perfectly acceptable, huh? Look at me, I’m blushing,” she teased sarcastically. But, Amethyst felt herself relax a little, as a little voice in her head said, ‘See? You were just being hard on yourself again.’
“It’s just that I’ve never kissed anyone before. And doing it for the first time is nerve-wracking enough, but to do it for the first time in front of all those other people….” She lifted her head, her nervous expression so unlike her normally confident demeanor. “And what if I’m bad at it in front of all those other people?”
Amethyst rubbed her palm against the back of her neck. “I mean, I’m no expert or anything. Just kissed some friends a few times as a goof, but from what I’ve learned, I think pretty much everybody is bad at it when they first start doing it. Just like anything else.”
“But you see my point,” Peridot pressed on. “I’ve never done it before, so I’m going to give a bad kissing performance in front of everyone.”
“Peridot, look at our improv class. We’re ALL giving embarrassingly bad performances in front of everyone.” She threw an arm around Peridot’s shoulders. “But you don’t need to worry about that anyway. Jamie’s a good guy. He won’t make you do scenes like that if you’re uncomfortable with it.”
“But isn’t this something that all actors need to learn to do? Kissing scenes?”
Amethyst sighed. “I don’t know what to tell you, Per. Heh…Unless of course you want to practice at it together, first.” She gave her a flirtatious wink.
That type of teasing might have caused Pearl to blush and look scandalized (always a hilarious result), but much to Amethyst’s surprise, Peridot exclaimed, “Amethyst! That’s exactly what we should do.”
She froze. “Huh?”
“Rehearsal!”  Excitedly, Peridot stood up and began pacing through the sand. “If I’m a novice at this, and you said you were maybe, what, an intermediate, then it only makes sense that we practice together first! That way, we can practice in private.” She turned to face the stunned purple gem with a self-assured smile. “I can’t believe no one’s ever thought about doing a rehearsal for an improv scene before. Look at us! We just keep improving improv.”
Amethyst rubbed her hand against the upper part of her arm. “I dunno, you sure you wanna do this?” she said, trying to play it cool. Well, maybe this didn’t have to be such a big deal. She knew kissing didn’t necessarily have to mean anything. After all, how many times had she planted a big wet kiss on a friend’s lips as a joke?
Of course, those friends weren’t Peridot. Cute Peridot, whose smile lit up a room. Funny, smart Peridot, who could always make Amethyst laugh with her own clever, unique take on the world around her. Her friend, Peridot, who made Amethyst feel like a spark lit up inside her even with an accidental brush of her hand.
Still, it didn’t have to be a big deal, right?
Peridot nodded. “Absolutely, I think we should do this.”
With a deep breath, Amethyst steeled herself with resolve. “Ok. So how do you want to start?”
Her smile faded slightly. “Start? Now?”
Gesturing around the dark, secluded beach, Amethyst pointed out, “You said you wanted privacy. There’s no one here now. Otherwise we’ll have to wait until the beach house is empty.”
Peridot looked somewhat hesitant about the idea, but she still relented, “O—Ok. Well, I suppose we should replicate tonight’s earlier scene.” She tentatively reached out a hand to pull Amethyst up from the rock. “I believe we were standing face to face.”
Amethyst smiled as she stood. “Yes, AND we were holding hands.” She reached for Peridot’s other hand hanging at her side.
At the realization that Amethyst was starting the “Yes, And” game once again, Peridot let out a little laugh and continued, “Yes, AND you were leaning a little more forward.”
“Like this?” Moving in, Amethyst was now only a few inches from Peridot’s face. Even in the dim moonlight, she could see a blue blush beginning to form on her cheeks, and saw her gulp nervously. Amethyst gazed admiringly at her sweet face and a wave of affection came over her. Peri was just too damn adorable sometimes.
“Y—yes. And your lips were protruding.”
“Yes, they were,” Amethyst said, but she wasn’t quite ready for that part yet. “And my head was tilted a little. You might want to do that too.”
Tentatively, Peridot tilted her head to the side so that her ear was practically touching her shoulder. “Like this?”
“Not exactly. Here…” Amethyst took her right hand and gently tilted it up a bit to a position that was bound to be much more comfortable. She might have taken her hand away after that, but there was something about the feel of Peridot’s soft cheek against her palm and the soft look that had entered Peridot’s eyes when she touched her there that made her leave it in place. Experimentally, she stroked her thumb against green skin, and she could have sworn she felt Peridot tremble. “Is that better?”
“Yes,” Peridot said faintly. “And I think we should kiss now.”
Amethyst moved even closer now, so close she could feel Peridot’s breath on her lips. “Are you sure?”
“Yes.” And before Amethyst could make her move, Peridot’s mouth was on hers.
If touching Peridot’s hand felt like a spark lighting up, this was felt like every part of her form was on fire. The kiss started off a little rough at first, with Peridot pressing too firmly into her lips, but it soon softened into an amazing feeling, their lips meeting again and again in a beautiful harmony. She moved her hand on Peridot’s cheek back into her thick golden hair to cradle the back of her head, and they released their intertwined fingers to move their arms around each other. One of Amethyst’s arms was slung over Peridot’s lower back. She pulled her even tighter, and Peridot let out a sound in her throat that was something like a cross between a gasp and groan, sending a feeling of pure thrill running up Amethyst’s spine.
When they finally pulled back from the kiss, Amethyst found she couldn’t quite bring herself to unwrap her arms from around Peridot.
“Holy smokes,” murmured Peridot, gazing at Amethyst breathlessly.
“Holy smokes,” Amethyst repeated back. That about described it, alright. The intensity of the moment had left her mind in a fog, and she struggled to regain her cool composure. “Well—uh---I don’t think you have anything to worry about with kissing scenes. You’re a fast learner.”
“Oh good,” she replied faintly. She seemed to be lost in a fog too. “But um, I’m thinking I could definitely use some more rehearsal anyway. That is, if you want to?”
She could have jumped for joy, but instead, Amethyst simply grinned. “Yes!” And she pulled her closer once more.

Amedot Week, Day 2
Prompt: First Kiss
Tumblr media
"Gaaahhh!" Peridot cried out, her legs and arms flailing angrily.  She opened her eyes to stare at the starry sky above while the hillside grass cradled her body.  Not her head though and Peridot's pillow looked down at her sleepily.
"Come on Peridot I'm trying to sleep here,'" Amethyst groaned stretching her arms out to yawn then folded them back behind her head.  "I thought you wanted to sleep too."
"I wanted to TRY sleeping, but it's impossible," Peridot cried out in protest gnashing her teeth angrily at the sky as if it's gentle starry tapestry was to blame for her inability to sleep.  "I understand the principle of energy conversion and recovery that the organic life on the planet operates by that makes sleep necessary, but I still don't understand how you do it."  Peridot turned over to face Amethyst who was considering Peridot sleepily.  The small green gem bitterly anticipated the rage she would display if Amethyst went back to sleep.  "Rather than conserve energy I feel like I'm expending a great deal more of it than I normally would just standing inertly."
"You mean what you were doing before?"  Amethyst asked after a paused her eyes rolling up as if trying to actively go up into her brain and search for the word.  Eventually, she shook her head probably giving up on finding the meaning of the word, "Ya, that's not sleeping."
"So you told me," Peridot growled through clenched teeth crossing her arms over her chest.  After another moment of silence, Peridot shot up frowning and crossed her legs, matching them to her arms.  "That's it I've determined that sleeping is a waste of time, just like eating."  Peridot nodded to herself smiling at last in self-satisfied personal consensus.
"Hay you liked the pudding."  Amethyst countered and sat up, scooting over to sit next to Peridot.  Amethyst stared over at Peridot, leaning down on her one raised knee while her other leg stuck out under one of Peridot's knees.
"Pudding's texture is superior to all other foods," Peridot noted instructively pointing a finger up into the air as she nodded, more to herself than Amethyst.  "It has far more in common with liquids, which as I pointed out in our last exercise, are far more appealing."
Amethyst let out one of her shrieking laughs, "You can barely drink Peri, it can't be too hot, or cold, or have bubbles.  The bubbles are the best part."  Amethyst excitedly licked her lips looking into the distant sky as if hoping it would rain down a bottle of pop for her.
"That's just objectively wrong," Peridot folded her arms over her chest again and stuck her nose in the air, a sign she would brooking no argument.
"Oh ya?"  Amethyst asked; Peridot was practically able to hear her grin.  When she turned back to solidify her point Amethyst's fingers were there to counter with a flick to Peridot's slightly upturned nose.
Peridot growled in rage and lunged at Amethyst who just let out another shrieking laugh as they tumbled down the hillside Peridot flailing ineffectually at Amethyst who securely pinned the smaller gem under her bulk at the bottom of the hill.  Peridot kicked and cried out for Amethyst to let her go.  "Mmm I don't know, maybe you need a wet willy to calm you down first."
Peridot squeaked at the threat, and her hands shot up to cover her ears, the flailing ceasing at once.  Peridot just whimpered remembering the uncomfortably slimy feeling of Amethyst's finger in her ear.  "Ha!  Just kidding," Amethyst barked a laugh and got up off of Peridot.  With only a little grumbling from Peridot, the two of them settling back down at the bottom of the hill in the same sitting position they had been in at the top.
A silence passes between them as Peridot laced her fingers together and twiddled her thumbs for a moment.  "So have you done everything that humans do?"
"Yep pretty much," Amethyst said proudly, but her features slumped for a second, and she looked away.  "Well not as much as Rose."  Amethyst dropped the name that had once been only spoken in ghost stories meant to scare young kindergarteners into performing their tasks perfectly less Rose Quartz come to take them away from their beloved diamond.  Peridot still had trouble thinking of Rose as the gem that had once been Amethyst's favorite person in the world.  Amethyst's smile returned marking the passing of the momentary morning, "But ya, pretty much everything."
"So... have you... kissed someone before."  Peridot blushed wildly as she forced out the sentence.  It was the real question she had been longing to ask Amethyst since she had watched all the way through Camp Pining Hearts.  The show constantly failed to recognize the strongest pairs among the campers, but the act of kissing seemed to have a considerable meaning Peridot just couldn't quite fathom.
Amethyst blushed as well, she glanced away from Peridot, rubbing the back of her head for a second before nodding and looking back confidently crossing her arms in front of her chest.  "Ya, of course I have," Amethyst scoffed, rolling her eyes and shaking her head as if the very idea of the question was silly.
"Would you... kiss me?"  Peridot's blush grew, and she jumped at the strange feeling that seemed to run up and down her body as she stared at Amethyst in anticipation of her answer.  Peridot though she should be more worried about the strange feeling, but she had been so scared to ask the stupidly simple question that she didn't dare back out now.
Amethyst sat frozen for several seconds her wide eyes staring into Peridot's and past them at the same time.  Amethyst seemed to snap out of her trance with a jolt when Peridot tentatively reached out and touched her hand.  "Sure!" Amethyst nearly shouted causing them both to jump.  Amethyst looked surprised at her agreement, but Peridot hardly noticed, excitement rising in her like all the liquid she had drunk was coming to a boil in her stomach.
Amethyst coughed into her fist and seemed to fall back into her casual, relaxed personality.  "I mean, sure Peri, if you want me to be your first?"  Amethyst smiled and wiggled her eyebrows a faint blush touching her cheeks.
"Of course!" Peridot practically cheered, before coughing into her fist as well and adjusting her visor.  "I mean of course I would want an experienced partner to guide me through my first experience.  I'm sure I'll become an expert in no time with your help."
Amethyst stared wide at Peridot for a second; then she shook with laughter.  Eventually, she couldn't restrain herself and started giggling wildly.  "What?"  Peridot huffed at Amethyst, "What did I say that was so amusing?"
"Nothing Peri," Amethyst shook her head wiping away a tear then, smiling sweetly at Peridot, leaned in.  Peridot's first thought was to retreat from the advance, but remembering this was how the act was performed closed her eyes and leaned forward as well.
Their faces smacked awkwardly, but not painfully, together, their noses bumped and their teeth clacked softly.  But there was also an explosion of feelings, like all the strange sensations that Peridot had felt since she asked Amethyst to kiss her, and a few others that had come over her while around Amethyst even before that, boiled over in the most wonderful cascade Peridot had ever felt.  She felt so close to Amethyst she had to open her eyes just to be sure they hadn't fused.
Then just like an explosion, it was over all too soon.  Amethyst pulled back and despite Peridot thoughtlessly leaning forward to maintain the kiss, they separated.  "Mmm, that was pretty good Peri, the best kiss I've ever had."  Amethyst chuckled, Peridot wasn't sure when they had wrapped their arms around each other or fallen onto their sides on the ground, nor did she care enough to give it any thought.
"H-how many times have you kissed someone?"  Peridot asked as they released one another and rolled onto their backs.
Amethyst stared thoughtfully up at the stars for a moment, then looked over and smiled.  "Including you, once."

When the new neighbors moved in, Amethyst couldn’t help but notice her.
Well, she’d noticed the dog first. Cute lil’ orange pup, tail wagging and tongue out. That dog had brought a grin to her face the moment she saw it rounding the corner with a zucchini, or maybe a cucumber in its mouth, running up to her and depositing it at Amethyst's feet like some grand prize. Amethyst had laughed out loud, picking up the (definitely) zucchini and giving the pup a hearty pat on the head.
Then she’d charged around the corner, huffing as she ran.
“Pumpkin!” The girl yelled, skidding to a stop on bare feet. “Don’t just run off like that, silly dog--” She looked up, and she and Amethyst locked eyes. “Oh! Hi, I’m sorry, I’m Peridot, I think we’re neighbors…?” Oh no. Oh no.
She was so cute!
Peridot kneeled down to gather up the dog, which was good because Amethyst needed some time to restart her brain. Peridot was wearing these adorable watermelon-patterned shorts, and christ her thighs--! Amethyst kept her eyes on Peridot’s face, which was at least somewhat more acceptable to stare at. The round glasses were a cute look on her.
“Yeah, yeah-- you guys just moved in, right? I saw the trucks last week. I think I met your… sister…?” Amethyst trailed off, not sure who the growly girl with the eyepatch had actually been.
Peridot made a face and stuck out her tongue.
“I apologize for whatever Sarah said or did. It’s nice to meet you, uhm--”
“Amethyst! Sorry I didn’t introduce myself earlier.”
Peridot smiled, a little crookedly.
“Well, it’ nice to meet you. I’ll see you around! You can keep the zucchini. You should probably wash it, though.” Peridot added, standing up. Pumpkin licked her hand, and Peridot smiled fondly down at the dog.
“Yeah,” Amethyst said, “See you around.”
“Jaaaaasppeeeeerr,” Amethyst whined, “the new neighbor is hot!”
“Didn’t know you liked eyepatches.” Jasper deadpanned, her eyes on her book. Amethyst hadn’t even known that people actually read those stupid cold war spy books until she’d moved in with her estranged sister.
“No,” Amethyst said, rolling her eyes, “she has a hot sister! And a cute dog!”
“Is that where that spaniel lives? Nice dog. Gave me a zucchini.”
“Me too, actually. Anyways, this is a crisis! ” Amethyst declared gravely.
“How so?” Jasper asked, flipping a page in her book.
“‘Cause I wanna bone her! And I’m gonna see her, like, every day ‘til school starts again! How is this not a crisis!”
“You are nineteen years old. I’m sure you can muster up the will to ask her on a date.” Jasper said plainly.
Amethyst plopped down on the couch.
“Jasper, I feel like you aren’t taking my girl emergency seriously.”
“What gives you that impression.” Jasper said, raising an eyebrow. Amethyst gently kicked her. Jasper rolled her eyes.
“Just go talk to her tomorrow. I can usually hear that dog out there, she’s probably there with ‘em.”
“So, what, I should go creep on her over the fence?” Amethyst asked.
“Make conversation with her about her weird vegetable bearing dog or something and let me read my book in peace.”
Amethyst made a hmmph noise, but found herself smiling anyways.
“Maybe I will. You want anything from the fridge?” She called as she got up. It was too damn hot, and needed a soda. Maybe a popsicle.
Jasper shook her head, and Amethyst left her sister in peace.
A couple days later, Amethyst was considering the best way to blow up an old toilet she had found without getting the cops called  or bringing down Jasper’s wrath upon her. Firecrackers obviously wouldn’t be strong enough, but she might actually burn down her house if she tried to stuff the thing full of actual fireworks. Maybe Bismuth would help her haul it to a field later?
Oh, hey, there was that dog again, barking up a storm. Jasper’s advice floated through her head, and, throwing caution to the wind, Amethyst hauled herself up onto one of the lower horizontal beams of the fence, so that she was hanging halfway over the top. Pumpkin ran to greet her, and Amethyst dangled one arm down for the dog to sniff.
Then she looked up and. Peridot was gardening, kneeled down in the dirt and tugging up small plants with a spade.
In a bikini.
Fuck.
She glanced up as Pumpkin stopped barking, and Amethyst felt her whole face heat up.
“Hey,” She said, as if she wasn’t staring at her over a fence. “I heard your dog.”
Peridot laughed and stood up, brushing dirt off of her knees. Amethyst made a valiant effort at not starting. Peridot walked over and crouched to pet Pumpkin, who sat down and panted happily.
“Yeah, he hates it when I weed the garden. I think he’s scared of the hand spade. Why is that?” She directed the last bit at the dog as she scratched behind his ears.
“Watcha growin’?” Amethyst asked, considering whether leaning down to pat the dog more would make her overbalance.
“Y’know, corn, tomatoes, greenbeans.” Peridot shrugged. Amethyst glanced back at the garden patch.
“And zucchini?” She asked. Peridot’s eyebrows furrowed.
“Yeah, there’s some zucchini growing. I didn’t plant it, I think some must have just gotten left over from the last owners. It’s sort of a pain, but no use wasting a plant, I always say!” She gave a nasal little laugh that shouldn’t have made Amethyst blush.
“Is it just you that takes care of the garden?” Amethyst asked, trying to not make a total ass of herself.
“Yeah, my sister doesn't like gardening. She’ll probably tear it up once I go back to school.”
Amethyst’s ears perked up at that.
“Oh, where do you go?”
“I go to Empire U, for agricultural studies. Why, do you go to school around here?” Peridot asked, tilting her head a bit.
“I go to Beach City College,” she replied, trying and failing to shrug casually while hanging over the side of a fence. Pumpkin yipped, and Amethyst leaned down a bit more to pet him--
And promptly flipped herself over the fence, tumbling down onto her back and narrowly avoiding squishing both Pumpkin and Peridot.
“Oh--! Shit, are you okay!?” Peridot yelled from where she was now sitting, having stumbled back in the chaos. She scooted over to kneel at Amethyst’s side.
Amethyst groaned and sat up. She looked at Peridot, then to the fascinatingly oblivious pumpkin, then back at Peridot.
She started to giggle, and Peridot laughed with her.
They had chatted for a long while after that.
Peridot and her sister were from a farm town in Illinois, but Peridot’s sister had just gotten a job in Beach City, and it was closer to Peridot’s school anyways. Pumpkin was indeed a spaniel, a gift from Peridot’s ex.
Amethyst had boggled at that-- who got their girlfriend a dog when they didn’t even live together? Peridot had gotten very quiet at that, so Amethyst had changed the subject.
Eventually, the sun started to dip and Peridot’s sister poked her head out the door to tell them to quiet down. Amethyst had climbed back over the fence, promising to see Peridot another day.
That brought them to today, standing in a field. Jasper had vehemently vetoed the toilet, so Amethyst decided on an old-furniture bonfire instead. Bismuth had indeed given a lift and an old cabinet, which Amethyst had demolished with an axe hours beforehand.
“Are you sure this is safe?” Peridot asked, clad in a tank top and shorts, standing a healthy distance away from the pile of splintered wood.
“I do this all the time! Old furniture goes up really well. I remember when we chopped up an old playset, that thing went up like dry newspaper!” Amethyst exclaimed as she piled rocks in a ring along the intended fire pit. “Bis said there wasn’t any varnish or anything on it, so we probably won’t get cancer.”
“What do you mean, probably? ”
Amethyst grinned and exaggeratedly rolled her eyes.
“Aw, c’mon. A little cancer never hurt anybody! You’re out in the sun all day anyways, you’re pretty much bound to get it.”
Peridot pouted and crossed her arms.
“It’s too hot to wear clothes while I garden. I’m just being sensible.”
Amethyst bit back a comment about being too hot -- she wasn’t sure if they were, y’know. There yet. But hey, now they were here! Alone, with a (semi) romantic fire. Amethyst had even brought marshmallows. She shoved the last rock into place and stood up, brushing dirt and grit off of her hands. The sun was just starting to set, now. She trotted to the car to fetch the lighter, the kindling, and of course the snacks.
“Do you burn a lot of stuff out here?” Peridot called.
“Nah, usually if I have a bonfire I’ll go to the beach. It’s supposed to be super crowded there tonight though, so I figured we could just use this field.” Really, Bismuth had gently suggested that they use the field in a sort of, don’t you get me in trouble for contributing to your pyromania by setting the beach on fire way. Amethyst was happy to comply.
“Is the beach busy a lot? I haven’t been.”
“It depends on the day and where on the beach. I know some pretty good spots.” Amethyst carefully didn’t mention how many of those spots were technically private property. It wasn’t like Rose and Greg cared anyways, unless they were doing something stupid, like burning massive amounts of shit.
“Can you take me sometime?” Peridot asked, and Amethyst hesitated in stuffing the kindling beneath the woodpile.
“That, uh, sort of sounds like a date, Per.” She laughed nervously, busying herself with the soon-to-be fire.
Peridot was quiet for a long moment. Shit. She’d been pretty sure Peridot was gay. In fact, she was already considering filing an official complaint, because she was pretty sure that it was illegal to wear a flannel like a crop top if you were straight, and Peridot had definitely done that (Amethyst hadn’t ogled her, no siree).
“I, uhm, thought this was a date?” Peridot squeaked, and Amethyst’s heart stopped for at least the third time that evening.
“Oh. Uh.” Amethyst started dumbly at her hands, still holding old newspapers. “Well, uhm, it is now? Is that…?”
“Is that a thing you’d be interested in?” Peridot ventured, “Like. Dating…?”
Holy shit yes , Amethyst’s mind screamed. Somehow, she managed to barely keep her composure.
“Yeah, man. Dating. That sounds pretty fantastic actually.” She said, like someone who didn’t have fireworks going off inside her brain. She crammed another handful of paper into the ple, and clicked the trigger of the fireplace lighter experimentally.
She’d been right, the pile of furniture went up beautifully. She scooted back a few feet, and Peridot sat down beside her.
“That went better than I thought it would,” said Peridot. Amethyst wondered what she was referring to.
As promised, the second date was on the beach. That had played and splashed in the water all day, but as the sun started to set they found themselves sitting on a dock, feet dangling in the water and hands inches away from each other’s.
“I should have brought Pumpkin,” Peridot mused, and Amethyst laughed at the mental image.
“He’d be tracking sand around your house for days, man! All that fur.”
“I’d wash him off with the hose! He likes playing with the hose.”
“I can’t even get all the sand out of my fur, and I have thumbs to operate a shower with. He’d give your sister an aneurysm.” She shook her head wildly for emphasis, and Peridot laughed and shielded herself as salt and sand sprayed from Amethyst’s thick bleached hair.
“Alright, alright, point taken, stop spraying me! Jerk,” She said, with no true malice.
Amethyst pouted anyways.
“I’m just trying to save your dog from a sandy fate!” She declared, voice full of mock offense, “And your house. It’s awful, trying to get all the sand out of the shower afterwards.”
“That’s why I keep my hair short. Less sand vectors.”
Amethyst giggled, and Peridot blushed and grinned.
“Vectors, huh? You’re such a stem major.” Amethyst laughed, gently bumping her with her shoulder. Peridot looked down at her lap. Amethyst looked at the profile of Peridot’s face, drinking in the upturn of her nose and the way her eyelashes looked in the sunset.
“Are you worried about when we go back to school?” Peridot asked, and Amethyst tilted her head.
“Are you?” Amethyst asked in return, already knowing the answer.
“I don’t know, maybe?” Peridot said, brushing at some sand that was stuck to her thigh. “I mean, I know we aren’t super serious yet or anything, but…”
Amethyst kept her eyes on Peridot, silently encouraging her to go on.
“I don’t know, I mean, you’re really cool and I haven’t dated-- wanted to date someone else in, well, a while, and I just, I just don’t want it to end yet?” Peridot hugged her legs to her chest, resting her chin on her knees.
“I mean,” Amethyst began, faltering a bit, “I think you’re really cool too? And I think you’re cute and I want to get to know you, I mean, it’s not even July . We have time to think about this. I dunno, I usually play this sort of stuff by ear, but maybe, maybe we just see where this goes? Figure out August stuff in August, y’know? Is that… Okay?”
Peridot let her feet dangle over the side of the dock again, but she was still sort of… hunched? Small looking.
Amethyst called out, “Hey.”
Peridot looked over, and Amethyst leaned forward to kiss her.
It was really nice.
The fourth of July was, predictably, also spent on the beach. This time, Amethyst was actually allowed to be on the little stretch of beach that Rose and Greg actually owned, and Peridot had only sort of side eyed her when Greg let them through the gate Amethyst had bypassed last time.
Peridot had been almost uncharacteristically shy around all the others, sticking close to Amethyst's side as they wandered from the volleyball net to the grill to the fire pit. Amethyst just held her hand and attempted to be loud enough for the both of them (and handily succeeded).
Peridot warmed up quickly, though-- Pearl mentioned transport phenomena or some other nebulous concept and Peridot jumped on it like a drowning man on a liferaft, sparking up conversation about molecular transport and scaling and Amethyst wandered off somewhere in the middle for another hotdog, but Peridot and Pearl both seemed to be having fun. Well. ‘Fun.’
Garnet gave her a inscrutable thumbs up, and Amethyst piled more mustard and relish onto her hot dog.
And then it was ten minutes ‘til the fireworks went off, and there was some kind of goddamned conspiracy going on here, because somehow Peridot and Amethyst were the only two on the cliff by the lighthouse, waiting for the show. Usually the joint was packed (well, if you could call the Cool Kids and that anime kid a full crowd). Bismuth and Rose had both suggested that they head up and wait for the rest of the group to catch up, Amethyst was calling shenanigans.
And yet. Somehow the universe had afforded them privacy this Independence day, so Amethyst was ready to declare this the good sort of shenanigans, and that she had a good group of friends, even if their ages did widely differ. Maybe they just wanted her to mack on someone her own age, who knows.
What mattered right now was that Peridot was sort of leaning her head on Amethyst’s shoulder, and she smelled like sunscreen and bonfire smoke, and Amethyst doubted she smelled much better.
Amethyst’s hand found Peridot’s, and they tangled loosely together.
“You sure can’t see many stars around here,” Peridot murmured.
“”S what the fireworks are for,” Amethyst replied, “were there a lot of stars where you lived?”
“No,” Peridot said, “But you could drive a couple hours to where the stars were. It was amazing-- there were so many, you couldn’t see anywhere to fit even one more in.” She sighed longingly.
“I’d love to show it to you,” Peridot whispered, “You’ve shown me so many of, of your places, and it’s only been a month. I want to show the stuff that’s special to me.”
Amethyst squeezed her hand, unsure how to reply. Peridot scooted impossibly closer, nudging her head into the crook of Amethyst’s neck.
“I really, really like you,” Peridot whispered, and Amethyst kissed her temple.
“I really, really like you too.”
Peridot tilted her head up and kissed Amethyst’s nose, and Amethyst grinned widely.
She’d’ve probably appreciated the fireworks more if Peridot’s tongue hadn’t been in her mouth, but hey, who was she to complain?
The summer flew by after that-- spent in days splashing at the beach, hanging out in each others back yards, sometimes to help Amethyst wreck some shit, sometimes to play with Pumpkin sometimes to help Peridot garden.
There were trips to Funland and the boardwalk, nights spent by bonfires, and even a day where Peridot sheepishly turned up at Amethyst’s door with an armful of zucchini. They’d made enough zucchini bread to feed an army, and Amethyst had laughed when Pumpkin turned up at the door with yet another of the vegetables, just like the day they met.
But, all good things had to end, summer especially. Peridot and Amethyst sat on Amethyst’s back porch, eating popsicles and looking up into the sunset sky.
Peridot rested her head on Amethyst’s shoulder, and Amethyst slurped her popsicle directly in Peridot’s ear. Peridot half-heartedly elbowed her in the ribcage. Amethyst gave Peridot a sticky, grape flavored kiss.
“I did the math,” Peridot said. “It’s a five hour trip each way.”
“Fuck that.” Amethyst snorted. “That sucks, man.”
Peridot gave her popsicle a mournful lick, turning so that she didn’t dribble on Amethyst.
“We’ve still got discord! And, y’know, our phones.” Amethyst said, trying to offer some sort of comfort.
“I know,” Peridot mumbled, “I just, I get worried about long distance stuff, what if you find someone else--”
“Peri. You have met, like, all of my friends, and no one's gonna transfer to Beach City of all places. Who am I gonna hook up with? They’re all, like thirty-five and I’m pretty sure Jasper is banging Pearl already anyways. Besides you’re-- you’re unforgettable, man! Irreplaceable. Irrperiplacebale? No, wait--”
Peridot giggled, and Amethyst grinned.
“Dork,” Peridot said around a mouthful of blue raspberry.
“Your dork.” Amethyst said, pleased with herself.
They sat in companionable silence for a few minutes, bathed in orange-gold.
“You really think Pearl’s fucking Jasper?” Peridot asked quizzically, and Amethyst gave an exaggerated shudder.
“I try not to think about it, dude.” At least Jasper seemed happier nowadays. It wasn't her business, she supposed.
Amethyst slid the last of her popsicle off of its stick and into her mouth, sucking on the ice.
“You packed yet?” She asked, and Peridot nodded.
“Sarah can’t wait to get me out of the house, I think. I still have to pack my clothes, but all my room stuff is packed.”
“Sarah is gonna lead a reign of terror over this neighborhood, isn’t she?”
“You’ll have to strike her down.” Peridot sighed dramatically.
Amethyst snorted, and Peridot finished off her popsicle, twiddling absentmindedly with the stick.
“You hear from your roommate yet?”
“Some psych major,” Peridot said, “She seems nice. Said she’s gonna bring a lot of books. Wanna hear my popsicle joke?”
“Hell yeah, I do.”
“What’s the best side of a house to put the porch on?”
“Fuck. The sunny side?”
Peridot giggled.
“No, the outside!”
“Pffft, is that really what it says?” Amethyst asked, playfully grabbing for the stick.
“Yeah! It’s one of the better ones I’ve heard, actually.”
“That’s why I don’t believe you.” Amethyst grabbed for the stick gain, then switched tracks and prodded at Peridot’s sides. The effect was immediate, Peridot let out a yelp of a laugh and curled up defensively.
Amethyst laughed too, kissing her and tasting blue raspberry.
Summer was ending, but they were gonna be fine.

Ahahahah, Amedot is such garbage. Their chemistry is severely lacking, and they never even had a properly developed relationship to begin with—
Hah, April Fools, here’s a sneak preview of Stargazing which I’m going to work my ass off for this weekend. Because if I put a sneak peak here I’m basically forcing myself to not disappoint people by abandoning this for another fucking month! It’s not long, so there’s no cut:
And suddenly, being alone at the barn did not entice Peridot. Not yet. Glancing at the warp pad behind her, she stepped over it and exited the house.
With a sigh, she stepped onto the sand of the beach. It tickled her feet and sank with every step made. There was no material like this on Homeworld. Everything was so smooth, metallic, and lifeless. Peridot dipped to her knees, one hand scooping into the sand. The grains fought to escape her fingers, and as she raised her hand, she watched the tan matter cascade between her appendages. Despite this, it felt so soft and delicate.
So many grains, useless alone, but billions of them created surface. Astounding.
With a turn, she blinked. A bit farther in the distance, she spotted a silver shine that just barely caught in the reflection of the descending sun. With a quick stride toward the object, she picked it up.
Her tape recorder. Forgotten sometime earlier that day. Tucking it securely under her arm, she walked further off. Maybe if she kept walking, she could find the right thing to say into the recorder. After an… eventful morning, she would’ve thought that her mind would be racing with so many trains of thought igniting all at once.
But no. No, she had nothing to say. Not now, at least.

Devil On Your Shoulder
Pairing: Amedot
Summary: Peridot likes pet names, and Amethyst has too much fun
A/N: Almost completely certain that this is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever written ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
“Hey, Per-bear,” Amethyst whispered into Peridot’s ear, snorting when it caused her normally pale face to turn a nice cherry red.
“Amethyst, you’re going to get us in trouble,” Peridot whined in complaint, fidgeting in her seat as Amethyst sidled up even closer.
“But Peri,” Amethyst cooed, tracing her fingers teasingly against Peridot’s knee. “You’re just so cute when you blush.”
“Amethyst, please-”
“Is there something you two would like to share with the rest of the class?” Ms. Diamond said from the front of the room, her sharp amber eyes narrowed.
“Nah, teach, just discussing the wonders of the Roman Empire,” Amethyst said smoothly, causing a few of the other students to snicker. Peridot buried her face in her hands and groaned.
“Silence!” Ms. Diamond snapped, causing the room to go quiet. She scowled back at Amethyst and Peridot. “I hope there will be no further interruptions to my class.”
“You got it,” Amethyst said, throwing in a mock salute. Her other hand, though, was stroking Peridot’s thigh beneath the desk, causing the smaller girl to tremble.
“Amethyst,” Peridot whispered, but Amethyst shushed her.
“We don’t want to get in trouble with Ms. Diamond again,” Amethyst whispered playfully, her plump lips turning up in a cat-like grin. “Do we, P-dot?”
Peridot grumbled, deciding to turn her attention back to her work in an attempt to ignore Amethyst, even while a strong flush still overtook her face.
Amethyst grinned, hiding a laugh behind her fist. Peridot was just too fun to play with for her to stop now. So she bit Peridot’s ear.
Peridot screamed. They both got detention for a week.
It was worth it.

Fanfictions featuring the Famethyst masterpost
What is a family by Stevidot4ever : Steven and the Crystal Gems head out on a special rescue mission to the human zoo. But it seems to be one of those days when things go from bad to worse. Not the best writing I’ve ever seen, but it has a post-redemption Jasper and cute interactions!
The Prettiest Girls at the Ball by Kitsune_Heart : They had never considered it as a possibility. Cross-gem fusion. But hearing about it from their lost little sister and then watching two ill-matched gems turn into one enormous fighting force was all the quartz soldiers needed to strike their ambition. Of course, there were twelve amethysts to just three jaspers and a single carnelian. What happened next was simple math. Flattering, to an extent, but also...well...amethysts are exhausting at the best of times…. A famethyst fic, focusing on Carnelian and Skinny Jasper, with lots of laughter and ass-kicking thrown in. One of my favorites so far! It has a lot of details about the Famethyst’s life and how they work with the humans and apparently there is even more to come!!
Gems do have Family by CaptainJZH :  On Earth, there was a thing humans had called "Family." Gems don't have families. Usually. Under the command of a ruthless Agate with a hatred for Earth Gems, the Betas and the Primes, slowly but surely, come together to make their own little family. Very good fic so far, with several chapters and a nice insight to Skinny, Carnelian and everyone’s backstory. The writing isn’t so detailed so the pacing is a little fast, but it’s not too distracting. I like it!
It’s a Hard Rock-Life by CaptainJZH :  Using the 1982 version as a reference, this is a version of "It's a Hard-Knock Life" from Annie, but with the Famethyst (the Gems working at the Human Zoo) instead! Written in script format. Honestly quite nice for a script fic, best if reading while listening to the song.
The Sheep will charge the Shepherd by FruitBird : The Crystal Gems have left, and Holly Blue is not happy. Neither are the Quartz soldiers. Things are going to change around here. Such a good OS, so satisfying I loved it! Very nicely written too!
Imperial by Yellow_Topaz : A piece of gem history better left forgotten is unearthed after a dream pushes Steven into meeting a gem recently escaped from Homeworld. She's alone and...well, Steven would certainly be scared if he was in her shoes. Even if she's looking for Jasper, her commanding officer, she's still a friendly Topaz that's stuck between a rock and a hard place. How dangerous can she be? The Famethyst only has a very small part in this, but there is a possibility they come back later? Also, gemlings.
Cold by icypearls :  Amethyst takes Peridot to meet her family. Human AU, a cute and simple plot, with Amedot. Just very nice.
Bad day by deadly_poison :  Why does that Amethyst have a chipped tooth?
Beta Gems by nebulaesailor : AU where Yellow Diamond never claimed Jasper for her court and she instead lives with her beta sisters at the zoo and is actually happy.
Tasty Little Agate by WolfyFurSins :  The Famethyst tattle on Holly Blue and things don't go well for her. I... Wasn’t really sure where to put that one, to be honest. It’s a little strange and there is vore, but nothing really graphic so... ??? Pretty fun to read, even if it is very weird.
Baby Blue Agate by WolfyFurSins : The gems at the Zoo are given a gemling to take care of while Blue Diamond is gone. A pretty cute one to be honest! Doesn’t really follow the canon but it’s gem egg hell so it’s fine.
Holly Blue and the Awful Horrible Very Not Good Day by CompletelyDifferent : Holly Blue Agate had been a happy Gem, with a happy job and a happy life. Then she had a very awful, horrible, not-nice, really blue day, when a bunch of nasty Amethysts stole her whole zoo. The days only got worse after that. A personal favorite. The child-book style writing is great, and really makes you smile. I hope for an update soon!
Niboowin by Greensword101 : Niboowin, the Ojibwe word for death. After all, what could be expected after two new humans were introduced and interacted with the humans from the Zoo? Pretty dark but nicely written and quite realistic actually.
Escape by RenegadeCarrot : The Amethysts have stolen a ship to go to Earth. Holly Blue goes with them so they won't crash. She brings a bubbled gem along for the ride.
Meeting the Famethyst by Enlightened_Introvert : Amethyst has finally found her family. This is what happened while the others were trying to break Greg out of the human zoo. Aaaaah, that one is great!! I just love it!
Smut fanfictions - Please be careful and only read if you are legally of age, thank you!
Peridot Visits the zoo by Fangirl_on a bicycle : Peridot has fantasized for years about having lots of quartzes at once. Amethyst knows where to find a bunch of friendly quartzes--and likes to make her girlfriend happy.
Away from your post by ShadowoftheLamp : You're an Amethyst at the human Zoo that was unlucky enough to be off your post while Holly Blue was in a bad mood. A nice smutty self-insert OS with Holly Blue Agate, not bad at all!
Accidents Happen by WolfyFurSins : Skinny bribes 8XJ into having sex with her while everyone is sleeping and Holly is away. However, things turn. Somethings in there don’t really makes sense, but I guess it could be worse.
Breaking the Toothpick by WolfyFurSins : Jasper pushes Skinny's limits.
Shocking Bang by WolfyFurSins : Holly Blue and the Famethyst get after Skinny due to a bad report.
Work to be done by BlessedTarantula :  The human zoo's guards suffer a very unique problem due to their creation on Earth - it's a good job that Homeworld has a spare Lapis on hand to help them out. Holly Blue has her own version on how this should play out.
Pink Pearls by Tat_Tat : The training was meant to teach Holly how to bend other gems under her will, how to strike fear and adoration through their beings. But the training had instead helped Holly realize that she didn’t want to make other gems fear her. She envied the quartzes on their knees, begging fealty, desiring to be in their place.
Holly Blue Agate is Desperate, Pass It On by airandangels :  Left to her own devices on a Zoo station she no longer controls and overrun by insubordinate and oversexed Quartzes, Holly Blue Agate reaches the end of her tether.
Heavenly Ambrosia by Evilsnotbag : Erica and Greg have been kidnapped by Blue Diamond. When Erica wakes up she is bound and a large purple gem is standing over her. She is injected with a drug that makes her... not herself anymore. And Holly has a taste for pretty things...

Cruelty from the Sidelines
some of you guys wanted to see my original work, so here it is!! I wrote this one for a contest that none of you guys would know. so there’s my disclaimer in case a judge looks it up to see if it’s plagiarism or something. i might delete this anyway idk
I need some critique on this because I’m sending it in tomorrow, so if you see anything weird/confusing/wrong, please let me know thanks
also to anyone wanting an extra challenge, if you see my amedot inspiration, give me a nod
.
Every morning, I let out my dogs and said hi to the shapeshifter over the fence.
Her name was Hedley. Most of the time, she looked like a beetle — if a beetle had four limbs, white hair, and eyes with pupils like a cat’s. Or if a beetle wore stereo headphones and basketball shorts. I never saw her leave the porch, not even to prune her seven orange trees. She just clack, clack, clacked her way from her squat brick house, perched in a giant pink chair with her carapaced legs pulled to her chest, and rasped through a strange, clicking accent, “Greetings, Valencia.”
I always answered, “Hey, Hedley.” Sometimes, I waved. Sometimes, Hedley raised a three-clawed hand in return.
I couldn’t pinpoint the time I knew something was wrong. Probably a Saturday, maybe a year since I’d moved in. I had let out the dogs and was nursing a coffee in front of the morning news. As always, they obsessed over wars, failures, tension between humans and the fantasy creatures we lived with. Human politicians insulting cryptids, blaming them for economic failures and water shortages and long lines at stores. Parades of protesters, despite the rain in Washington. A giant with four eyes and no arms used a cop car as a stepstool, shouting a slogan the news didn’t want us to hear. Idly, I swirled the dregs of my coffee.
It was then, I think, that I realized I hadn’t seen Hedley yet. When I leaned out my window, I saw her pink chair was empty. She couldn’t be gone. She never left her house. Like always in Florida, the weather was too nice to stay in.
So I went to her door and knocked.
To my surprise, the door was open, swinging in with an ugly, rusted shriek. I could hear the news again — same channel, same report. It was dark. To the right was a pulsing blue glow.
“Hedley?” I called.
I knocked again before giving up and squeezing inside. The door was oddly narrow...and, well, I was fat.
“Hedley, it’s Valencia. Your door’s unlocked…”
As soon as I stepped in, I shivered — deep in the house, the air conditioning roared. The blue glow was the pause screen of a computer game, lighting the room enough to navigate its clutter. Cracked lawn flamingoes, tangles of yarn, an engine of dubious use. A torn sheet. A shattered vase. Huge gouges in the wood floor, one as wide as my wrist. A phone nearby.
I picked up the phone. Still unlocked, opened to a text conversation. There had been twenty new messages in the past five minutes — the other person was still typing.
My throat was tight. Squeezing the phone, I continued out of the office and into a dark living room.
And found myself watching a monster.
It filled the couch it sat in and overflowed into the living room; its solid, dark mass pushed up against the ceiling. Silver spines lined its back, glinting in the icy light of the TV. And it didn’t move — only shook. Shivered. I could see some of the TV from where I stood, and the monster was watching it, the same news clip I had seen from my own safe home.
The protest. The giant, climbing onto the police car, giving his speech. Staggering back, slipping from his pedestal. Bleeding blue blood from a handful of holes.
The phone slipped from my hand and the monster whirled around.
I might have screamed. But I didn’t get much out before the monster’s form glitched — flickering, fluctuating, and shrinking in a mass of white hair and grey carapace until it was gone. In the place of the monster was Hedley, curled up on the sofa, blue eyes bright with tears.
“Valencia…”
Her shoulders shook. Just like the monster’s had. She fumbled with a TV remote and switched it off, drowning the room in darkness and silence, but I could still see her glowing eyes. She blinked too much. “I — Valencia, I am — welcome — I mean — you are sorry — ”
“Are you okay?” I asked.
Hedley went quiet.
“I’m going to open the windows. For light,” I said. She didn’t tell me not to, so I shuffled to the far wall and pulled back the dark curtains. When I turned back to her, she was still on the sofa with her chin on her knees, staring out at nothing. So I moved a pile of magazines and sat next to her. “Do you need to talk?”
She made a small clicking noise that didn’t tell me anything, then bit her lips, dragging her white fangs over her grey skin. She said, “I don’t know.”
I asked, “Do you want me to leave?”
“No.”
Her voice kept getting smaller and she curled tighter into herself. Once, she flickered like before and I panicked — I didn’t need to see that thing again — but nothing happened. It was only Hedley, sinking into the understuffed cushions as if waiting to be swallowed up.
“I can’t shapeshift,” she said suddenly. I frowned.
“What do you mean?”
She jerked her hand. “Can’t. Only enough to break my house.”
I realized she was pointing to something — the remnants of her glass coffee table. A matching set to the splintered floors. “You did all that?” I asked, though I knew the answer. Hedley just nibbled her claws.
I tried to be helpful. “I think you’re a good shapeshifter. Us humans can’t do it at all.”
“I can’t fight,” Hedley replied, her voice shaking. “They all say, ‘Stand up, fight. Shoot back.’ I — I can’t. I am just…”
“Just you.”
She said nothing. I looked at my hands.
“Hey,” I said, “I get it. It’s hard. Wanting to change something, when you...really can’t. Having to watch from the sidelines.”
“What do you do about it?” she asked.
I inhaled. If she had known what it meant, I would have told her that my mother crossed the Mexican border before cryptids were even uncovered. That I was five when my neighbors were dragged away, when my people stood on boxes and stared down the barrels of guns. I would have told her it was twenty years ago. And that fifty years from now, we’d have new people to hate.
“You wait,” I said instead. “You think about other things. You live while you can. And you find people like you, and you wait.”
She didn’t move, didn’t reply, only stared at her clawed feet. One claw twisted the hem of her shirt. Something tightened in my chest.
“Hey,” I murmured, putting my hand on her thin shoulder. “I’ll help you clean up. I don’t know how to fix floors, but I know some tricks to keep a house nice.”
Again, silence.
“Hedley?”
Silence still. But she moved, and when she did, she didn’t give me time to react. She hugged me. It was strange — she was warm; I hadn’t expected that. Her exoskeleton wasn’t hard or sharp. Her arms didn’t even wrap all the way around me.
She was just…Hedley. She didn’t have to speak.
I stayed.

spooked (Amedot Fic)

Her eyes fluttered open. It was the middle of the night, and she was in Amethyst’s room. Amethyst had invited her to spend the night because of the fact that the house was being renovated and everything. She also really wanted to have a sleepover with Peridot. She turned over to the find that the spot next to her was vacant. “..Amethyst?” She quietly asked, now confused and a little concerned. She sat up on the mattress, wondering where Amethyst had ran off to. She decided to check the beach house first.
Amethyst’s door split into two halves, with a wavy line and purple light that appeared to have a slimy texture. Peridot quietly stepped out of the room, walking into the living room. “Amethyst?” She quietly called again, trying to avoid waking Steven up. She was nowhere in sight. Peridot then opened the screen door to find Amethyst sitting on the steps of the stairs that lead up to the beach house.
“..Amethyst?” She asked again, but in a more so cautious tone.
“Oh hey Peri..,” Amethyst replied, with a hint of detachedness in her voice, not making any eye contact with Peridot whatsoever. “‘Sup?”
“Hi..,” She said, hesitantly. “May I sit with you?”
“Oh, sure. Of course,” Amethyst acquiesced, moving over to make room for Peridot.
She slowly walked over, and then sat down next to her, “..So, is there any reason in particular for why you’re out here this late?”
“Nope.. not really,” Amethyst mumbled, looking down to the left. Peridot knew that wasn’t true, by the tone in her voice and her body language, she knew something was wrong.
“Are you sure?” questioned Peridot.
“Well.. I guess.. That.. I’ve had a lot on my mind lately,” Amethyst admitted, seeming uneasy and now crossing her arms.
“Like what exactly?” Peridot inquired. No response. “Amethyst..?”
“It’s nothing,” She lied, turning away, and still avoiding eye contact.
“Amethyst.. Please tell me what’s wrong.. You know it isn’t good to bottle your feelings up like that,” Peridot pleaded, hoping Amethyst could tell her why she was upset, and urging her to do so.
She sighed, “Even though we’re on pretty good terms with the diamonds now.. I guess it didn’t hit me until now that.. I’m still a little spooked about what happened with White Diamond in her ship or whatever.”
“What do you mean?” Peridot asked. She knew there was way more to then just that, and she wanted Amethyst to get everything off her chest, and Amethyst probably wanted the same too.
“..She took away my color, and possessed me Peridot..,” Amethyst clarified what she had meant. “She possessed all of us.. And then she basically ripped Steven’s gem out of his stomach.. And none of us could freaking do anything about it because she had all 3 of us under her thumb..”
“But.. none of what happened was your fault.”
“I know that stuff wasn’t my fault, but I still feel bad about it!” Amethyst exclaimed, frustratedly, burying her face into her knees.
Peridot softly put her hand on Amethyst’s shoulder in an attempt to let her know she was there for her and that she wanted to be there for her and comfort her, “I know, Amethyst..” She knew she wasn’t good at this type of stuff but she wanted to make her feel better, she wanted her to be happy. She hated seeing her upset. She hated seeing her like this.
Amethyst lifted her head up, now sitting up, and resting her head on her hand. “I just wish that I could’ve been able to done something. Y’know? I know that’s she like the ultimate gem of gem kind, and not even Blue or Yellow Diamond could’ve done anything to stop her, but I still wish that.. We could’ve been able to stop her from ripping his gem out, instead of just standing there and watch it happen while under her control,” She vented. “..I don’t know..”
“I know you feel that way, and I understand why you do.. But I don’t think you should be so hard on yourself for what happened, and not being able to do anything about it.. Because like you said.. White Diamond is the most powerful gem to ever exist..”
“Yeah.. you’re right,” Amethyst conceded. “I barely remember anything from when she had control of me.. But like the one thing I do slightly remember, from when I was still somewhat conscious is that.. She called me insecure..”
“She called you what?” Peridot asked, a little surprised. She knew White Diamond said and did some pretty messed up stuff in there, but it was still surprising to hear the exact stuff she said and did.
“It’s written all over their gems, insecure, blah blah blah,” Amethyst repeated White Diamond’s exact words, while trying to mimic her. “And it’s true.. That I am insecure.. I guess it just hit close to home because she brought it up as a way to, I dunno, put me down while trying to manipulate Steven. I used to spend so much time hating myself, and doubting my worth, doubting myself, but now.. I’m happy with myself.. I’m happy being me, and I’m proud of who I am.. It didn’t even affect me when Blue D was ridiculing me for being defective, I mean, yeah it was annoying but it’s like ‘Yeah, I’m defective. Yeah, I’m short. So what?’,” Amethyst rambled. “I guess maybe White Diamond bringing up me being insecure bothered me because.. Of everything that’s happened in the past. With Jasper, with Pearl kind of being a jerk to me for awhile, the stuff that was said at the Kindergarten that one time, and everything else.. I dunno.. Maybe I’m overreacting.”
“You're not overreacting!” Peridot protested, throwing her arms out into the air. “It’s okay to feel like that. It’s okay to feel that way about some stupid comment that some clod made!”
“Yeah..”
“And if you care to know what I think, I think you’re amazing,” Peridot admitted, with a hint of softness in her voice, her cheeks now a light shade of blue.
“Gee thanks, Peri. You’re such a dork. You know that, right?” She beamed, now smiling. But her being a dork wasn’t a bad thing, it was far from it. She thought Peridot’s dorkiness was adorable, and she thought that her dorkiness was of the many things that made Peridot, Peridot. And she liked Peridot.
“I do know because you’ve established the fact that I am a dork many times now,” Peridot responded, with an annoyed sounding tone. “But.. I could go on and on about how great you are, Amethyst.” Amethyst’s cheeks were now burning too. She picked Amethyst’s hand up, slowly slipping her fingers into hers, “About how happy you make me..”
“Ughh, Peridot, you nerd, you’re making me blush,” Amethyst groaned, hiding her face behind her bangs and one of her hands, while the other was still holding Peridot’s. “You really think I’m that great?”
“I think you’re amazing, Amethyst,” Peridot smiled, complimenting her.
“Well, I think you’re amazing too, P-Dot,” Amethyst gushed, smiling back at her. “Also.. thanks for letting me vent, and for trying to comfort me. I actually feel way better now.”
“Good. And you don’t need to thank for me that, because I’m here for you and I always will be, just like how you’re here for me and you always will be too,” She said, still smiling at the purple gem. “Do you want to go in now?”
“Actually.. I think I wanna stay here for a bit longer,” Amethyst responded, then leaning onto and snuggling into Peridot’s shoulder. “Is that okay?”
“Of course,” Peridot smiled, then wrapping her arm around Amethyst, and embracing her.

May I have this dance? (Amedot fic) (Rewrite)
One-Shot
Summary: 2. We were dancing but all of a sudden it’s a slow song and we’re standing here awkwardly staring at each other (Prompt)
Notes:  So back in August, someone requested this for a prompt game. Originally this took over a week, due to brainstorming and being busy with school. I believe I’ve rewritten this two times since, so it went from 800 words (i think) to 1000 to 1700. I also changed the ending, so that’s why it’s way longer. Part of me is proud of it just because it took 2 days to write it and I worked hard on it, but the other part of me kind of hates it because it feels so fast paced and idk. I just don’t like my writing sometimes? lol. Anyways, enjoy.

It was the evening of Steven's fifteenth birthday. August 15th. And of course they were throwing a birthday party for him. It was just the gems, Connie, and Greg. They were all on the dance floor. Connie and Steven were dancing together, unsuprisingly, as Lapis stood off to the side, because she wasn't really a dancer, with Greg, who was djing the music. Garnet, Bismuth, and Pearl were chatting away. And then there Amethyst and Peridot, who were dancing together aswell.
After one song finished, another one started. The mood of the song changed from a fun tone to a more so slow and calm one. It even almost sounded romantic. 'Oh stars.. The dance for this song is slow dancing? Isn't it?' Awhile ago, Peridot's curiousity got the best of her, so she googled what a slow dance was, the definition being 'a type of partner dance in which a couple dances, slowly, swaying to the music, usually done to very slow-beat songs, namely sentimental ballads.' Peridot looked over at the purple quartz, almost like she was now staring at her, with Amethyst awkwardly staring back. Both wondering if the other gem would even want to slow dance with her.
After at least a couple of seconds of just awkwardly standing there, and staring at each other, Amethyst finally spoke up, risking the chance of being rejected, "Peridot.., may I have this dance?"
Peridot hestitantly and slowly put her hand on Amethyst's, now holding it, "O-okay."
Amethyst gently pulled her in, then firmly but also gently, placing her hand onto Peridot's hip. Peridot wrapped her arms around Amethyst, with her right hand locked in with Amethyst's right hand. The rhythm of their bodies slowly danced with sentimental passionate music. Peridot found herself trembling, shaking and quivering, with her cheeks now a light shade of blue, staring at the purple gem's face. Her chest felt a mix of so many things. It felt heavy. It felt tingly. And it felt like something was pounding on it. 'Stop staring at her like that you clod!' Peridot told herself, secretly hoping that Amethyst would never notice how flustered she was. She looked down, so she wouldn't stare at Amethyst, and so it wouldn't be noticeable that she was a mess. She was a mess. She was trembling, blushing, had weird feelings in her chest. After about 30 more seconds of dancing, Peridot finally looked back up at Amethyst. Her breathing became of little depth, and her chest now felt like it was practically racing, and about to burst. Her face was now incredibly close to Amethyst's. She felt her lips inching closer to Amethyst's. She caught herself, and then immediately pulled away.
"I-I got to go..," Peridot stammered, now looking away from Amethyst, completely avoiding eye contact altogether now. She then ran off, disappearing from sight.
Amethyst just stood there, now alone on the dance floor. She was so confused and nearly in disbelief, but also somewhat hurt, with feeling like she had been punched in the gut. She felt incredibly stupid, for ever asking Peridot to slow-dance with her. She face-palmed, frustrated and mad at herself, 'Ugh! I-I really messed up this time.. I should have known she was gonna get super comfortable. I should've known that things were gonna get really awkward. This is my fault.. I should've never asked her to slow-dance.. I mean.. why would she want to slow-dance with me anyways? ..I know I wouldn't want to..' After collecting her thoughts, she ran after Peridot, following her into the beach house, which was pitch dark. It was silent. She turned on the lights, now slowly walking. "...Peridot?" She asked, cautiously. No response. "Peri.. is.. is everything okay..?" 'She has to be in the bathroom..' And so she was. Just sitting there, by herself, hiding her face in her knees, almost like she was curled up in a ball. "Oh man.. Peridot..," She sighed, "Per.. I'm sorry.. I-I should've never asked you to slow dance.."
After a few seconds, Peridot finally said something. "You asking me to slow-dance was not the issue," She said quietly, with a muffled sound.
"Oh? Then.. what's wrong, P-Dot? Did I.. did I do something back out on the dance floor to upset you?" Amethyst asked, now confused.
"No no.. You weren't the problem, Amethyst. You did nothing wrong," Peridot said. She then looked up at Amethyst, her cheeks now a light shade of blue. She sighed, "I'm just.. incredibly embarrased.. That's all.."
“Embarrassed? Wait. Why?” Amethyst asked.
"Because!" Peridot bursted out in frustration. She was mad. She was mad that she ran off like that, she was mad that she couldn't even slow-dance with Amethyst without embarrassing herself, she was mad. "Ergh!" She then paused, taking a deep breath to calmly collect herself. "Amethyst, it's not that I didn't want to slow dance with you.. Because frankly, I did. I did want to slow dance with you. And if I didn't want to.. I would have said so. But... I kept staring at you, and I was trembling, and blushing. Frankly, I was just a mess. And it was just very.. embarrassing."
"Ohh.. right..," Amethyst mumbled. "..Is it.. Is it because you don't like it when I touch ya or whatever? 'Cuz I've noticed that ya've gotten super uncomfortable whenever I do touch you, and I - uh - can back off if ya want me to. Y'know? If I'm ever making ya uncomfortable, just say so."
"No! That is not what I meant! ..Amethyst, I do like it when we touch.. A lot! ..Almost too much.. But I hate the way it makes me feel when we touch.. because whenever you do touch me, I just - freeze up, or blush, or tremble, or all of the above.. because I like you so much..," Peridot rambled. "And I know you've noticed. That's why I ran off.. because I was so embarrassed of you noticing how flustered I was.."
"Ughhhh.... Peridot..," Amethyst groaned.
"W-what? Did I say something wrong?" Peridot asked, now confused, but also worried that she might of done something to upset Amethyst.
"You're not the only one who becomes a complete mess.. You make me feel so mushy! Like. All. The time." Amethyst divulged, now blushing herself. "It's lame. Right?" She sighed, and then crossed her arms, "I really hate that I love the way you make me feel.."
Peridot weakly, and gently smiled at Amethyst, now smiling even more now, "I'm glad that you feel the same way.."
"Good..," Amethyst smiled back. She came over and held her hand out, "So.. you want help out of the tub?"
"Yes please.."
"Okay.." Peridot slipped her fingers into Amethyst's palm, grabbing onto her, as Amethyst helped her up. She then stepped out of the tub, her fingers still laced through Amethyst's. "So, what if I held your hand?"
"Like how you're holding it right now?" Peridot asked, as she lightly squeezed Amethyst's hand.
"Yeah.."
"It feels.. nice..," Peridot answered. To her, even the brush of Amethyst's thumb against her palm felt amazing, and lit her up inside. "But, at the same time I feel.. nervous.. But it's okay because I like holding your hand."
"So.. what if I kissed your hand?" Amethyst asked. "Would that be okay?"
"Yes."
Amethyst lifted Peridot's hand, the one that she was holding, up to the level of her lips, and then gently kissed it.
Peridot's cheeks turned a light shade of blue, now overwhelmed with the feeling of butterflies swirling in her stomach, and the feeling of her cheeks burning.
"Was that okay?" Amethyst asked.
"Yes.."
"You sure?" Amethyst asked. "Because, I don't wanna pressure ya into doing this stuff if it's making you feel uncomfortable."
"Amethyst.. it's okay..," Peridot reassured her, squeezing the nervous gem's hand to let her know that everything was okay. And then they started staring at each other again, which was common for them. Amethyst was just so pretty. Her long, thick, and messy pale lavender hair, her little nose, her plump lips, her eyes, and her body. It was hard not to stare at her because of how pretty she found her. "So, what if you kissed me?" Peridot asked, from a sudden impulse.
Amethyst's eyes widened, now surprised, "You want me to kiss you?"
"Yes..? Is that bad..?" Peridot asked.
"No, dude, not at all. I guess it's just surprising.."
"Amethyst, out on the dance floor, I tried to kiss you," Peridot admitted. "How is it surprising that I want to kiss you?"
"Wait, what? You actually tried to kiss me?" Amethyst asked, now even more surprised then she was before.
"Yes.. I did. That's also why I ran off.. I nearly kissed you, and I thought that you wouldn't want the same, so I didn't want overstep an boundary."
"Of course I want to kiss you, Peridot!" Amethyst exclaimed, now blushing herself.
"You do?" Peridot asked. Now it was Peridot's turn to be surprised.
"Yes, I do. For so long, I've wanted to kiss you, badly.. But I was never able to because I was scared of messing things up, and I also thought that you wouldn't want the same."
Now feeling brave, Peridot got closer, now stroking Amethyst's palm with her thumb, "Well.. nothing's stopping you from doing so now."
Amethyst gave her a soft but also flirtatious smile. As Amethyst's face inched closer to hers, Peridot's chest started to race, faster and faster. She could then feel herself getting closer to Amethyst, feeling her breath against her face, and seeing how dark Amethyst's cheeks were. And then it happened, she was the one who initiated the kiss, the one who gently placed her lips on the other gem's lips, giving into the urge of kissing her. . She wrapped her arms around Amethyst's neck, as Amethyst grabbed her waist, kissing her back, which deepened the kiss, stealing Peridot's breath. Then they let go, heavily breathing, giving themselves a few seconds, but then their lips met, again, and again, and again. She then looked at the purple gem, who looked blown away, entranced, head over heels.
"Holy smokes..," Peridot stammered, blown away by their first kiss.
They let go of each other.
"So.. how do you feel now?" Amethyst asked.
"I feel so many things.. warm, fuzzy, tingly, longing for more, like my chest is racing," Peridot listed.
"Heh, I feel the same.. And yeah, kissing is addictive."
"Yeah, it is."
"Soo, do you wanna go back outside now? I mean, we don't have to butttt.. I'm pret-ty sure that the others have probably noticed that we're gone by now, and are probably wondering what's up.. Heh, maybe they assumed we ran off to make out," Amethyst rambled. Peridot blushed out of slight embarrassment. "Except.. we kind of did. But anyways, I'm rambling.. so..?"
"Yeah, you're right, we probably should go back out there," Peridot agreed.
Amethyst then slipped her hand into Peridot's, "Is this... alright?"
"It's.. perfect," Peridot smiled. Amethyst smiled back, kissing Peridot's cheek, and then they walked back out together, holding hands.

May I have this dance? (Amedot fic)

Notes: A anon requested this on Tumblr (for a prompt game). This took over a week because I've been trying to brainstorm and I've been busy with school. I guess this would take place after my other fics 'Comfort' and 'Swirling Emotions' if 'I guess that's how I feel about you' didnt exist. I hope this is enjoyable, and not too short. *I rewrote this

"Warm and fuzzy inside," Peridot smiled, looking up at Amethyst. "And.. I'm happy that I'm here with you."
“Same dude.”
After 5-10 minutes of Peridot lying on Amethyst's lap, with Amethyst stroking her hair, Amethyst finally broke it, "So.. Uh.. Do you wanna go back out there now? We don't have to butttt I'm pret-ty sure the others are probably wondering.."
"Oh - um uh, sure," Peridot answered.
Amethyst got up, out of the tub, then helping Peridot up. They stared at each other for a minute, then nervously giggled and blushed. They started to head outside. Amethyst grabbed Peridot's hand, now holding it, "Is this... alright?"
"It's.. perfect, Amethyst," Peridot smiled, now holding onto Amethyst's hand.
(Yes Amethyst and Peridot did almost kiss before Peridot ran off)

May I have this dance? (Amedot Fic)
Summary: 2. We were dancing but all of a sudden it’s a slow song and we’re standing here awkwardly staring at each other (Prompt)

It was the evening of Steven’s 15th birthday party. They were on the dance floor. Connie and Steven were dancing, unsurprisingly. Lapis was standing off to the side, with Greg, who was playing the music. Garnet, Bismuth, and Pearl were chatting. Amethyst and Peridot were dancing together too.
After one song finished, another song started playing. The mood changed from fun to slow. Peridot knew what the dance for this song was.. slow dancing. Peridot read off Google that ‘a slow dance is a type of partner dance in which a couple dance slowly, swaying to the music. This is usually done to very slow-beat songs, namely sentimental ballads.’ Peridot looked over at Amethyst, almost staring, with Amethyst staring back, wondering if she would even want to slow dance with her.
Amethyst held her hand out, “Peridot.. may I have this dance?”
Peridot hestitantly put her hand on Amethyst’s, now holding it, “O-okay.”
Amethyst gently pulled her in, then placed her left hand firmly, but gently at the same time onto Peridot’s hip. Peridot wrapped her arms around Amethyst, right hand locked in her right hand. The rhythm of their bodies that danced slowly with the music was passionate. Peridot found herself trembling, with her cheeks a light blue, staring at her face. Her chest felt a mix of things, heavy, tingly, and pounding. ‘Stop staring at her like that!’ Peridot told herself, hoping Amethyst wouldn’t notice how flustered she was. She looked down, so she wouldn’t stare at Amethyst. She was a mess. She was trembling, blushing, her chest felt weird, she could feel herself sweating, not because it was hot, but more like stress sweat. After about 30 seconds, Peridot then looked up at Amethyst, her breathing became of little depth, and her chest now felt like it was racing. Her face was so close to Amethyst’s. She felt her face getting closer to Amethyst’s, specifically her lips. She then immediately pulled away.
“I-I got to go,” Peridot stammered, now looking away from Amethyst, avoiding eye contact. She ran off, disappearing from sight.
Amethyst stood there. Now alone. She was confused. She was hurt. She felt stupid for ever asking Peridot to dance. She face-palmed, 'Ugh! I really messed up this time. I should have known she was going to get so uncomfortable, and that things would get so awkward. This is my fault. I shouldn't have asked her to dance.. Why would she want to dance with me? I wouldn't want to..' She ran after Peridot, following her into the beach house. It was dark, very dark. She turned on the lights. "...Peridot?" No response. "Peri.. is everything okay?" 'She has to be in the bathroom..' And so she was, sitting there by herself, hiding her face in her knees, almost like she was curled up in a ball. "Oh man.. Peridot.." She sighed, "I'm sorry.. I-I should've never asked you to slow dance.."
“It’s not that..,” Peridot groaned.
“Oh?” Amethyst asked, now confused. “Then.. what’s wrong? Did I do something?”
“No. You didn’t do anything, Amethyst,” Peridot said. She looked up, her cheeks were super blue. She sighed, “I’m embarrassed.”
“Embarrassed? Wait. Why?” Amethyst asked.
"Because!" Peridot bursted out. "ERGH!" She took a deep breath. "Amethyst.. it's not that I didn't want to slow dance with you. Because frankly, I did. I did want to dance with you. And If I didn't want to, I would have said so. But - I kept staring at you! I was trembling! I was blushing! I think I was even sweating! I was a mess. And it was very embarrassing.."
“Oh right…,” Amethyst mumbled. “..Is it because you don’t like it when we touch or whatever? Because I can back off if ya want. Y'know?”
"No! That's not what I meant! I do like it! But I - hate the way it makes me feel when we touch. Whenever you do, I just freeze up, or blush or temble, or all the above.." Peridot rambled. "I know you noticed! And that's why I ran off! I was embarrassed of you noticing how flustered I was."
"Ughhhh.... Peridot," Amethyst groaned.
"What?" Peridot asked, now confused but worried she did something.
"You're not the only one who's a mess! You make me feel so mushy. All. The time." Amethyst divulged, now blushing herself. "It's super lame. Right?" She sighed her and crossed her arms, "I hate that I love it.."
Peridot smiled, “Glad I’m not.”
"Yea..," Amethyst smiled back. She came over, and then sat down next to Peridot. Peridot then wrapped her arms around Amethyst's stomach, her face nuzzling into Amethyst's shoulder. Amethyst's cheeks got darker. "So.. how do ya feel now?"
“Warm and fuzzy inside.”
“Same dude.”
After at 5 to 10 minutes of just cuddling in silence, Amethyst finally broke it, “So.. do you wanna go back out there now? I’m sure the others are probably wondering.”
“Oh - uh, sure,” Peridot answered.
Amethyst got up and out of the tub, then helping Peridot up. They stared at each other for a minute, then nervously giggled and blushed. They started to head outside. Amethyst grabbed Peridot’s hand, now holding it, “Is that alright?”
“It’s perfect,” Peridot said, now holding onto Amethyst's hand.
(End Notes: Yes, Peridot did almost kiss Amethyst before she ran off.)
