In an attempt to develop my ocs beyond esoteric inconsistent concepts, today I wrote a drabble AND doodled some scenes from said drabble. 

in short: it’s hard to keep a straight face when your crush keeps touching you tenderly

“Are ya sure this is the only way forward?”

Boulders decorated the landscape, jutting out at divergent angles from the incline on which they were perched. It would be a difficult climb without the packs strapped to their backs, but the added weight made the feat all the more intimidating.

Taraka shook her head. Gorou never seemed to pay attention during briefings. She pointed to her left.

“There’s a gorge over that way.” Her arm swung around to the right. “And the terrain is even more steep. We don’t really have an alternative.”

“It’s not that bad,” Chouko called, already confidently perched between two rocks above everyone. They flashed a smile and bounded forward with ease, propelling themselves off of footholds.

“Not everyone has your sense of athleticism, Chouko,” Taraka sighed, hoisting herself up and over a rock. Gorou followed suit, the distance between boulders dwarfed by his frame.

Choukichi made a small noise.

He was already falling behind; the footholds just out of reach for someone hesitant to leap. Out of breath, he wiped the pearls of sweat from his brow. It was difficult not to think of the commander’s words.

Liability.

That had been months ago, yet it managed to manifest nearly every mission the team was sent on. Always Choukichi, lagging behind, slowing them down. The others never said anything about it, but Choukichi could feel the weight of their grievances, making every push forward all that more difficult. Chouko was already so far ahead, always moving ahead with an effortless grace. Taraka wasn’t far behind. But where was Gorou…?

He exhaled, closing his eyes for a moment. When he opened them, a hand was extended before him.

“Need a lift, Kichi?”

Gorou’s voice was warm. If he was bothered by Choukichi’s dawdling, he did a good job hiding it. A flush came to Choukichi’s cheeks as he took his hand. Gorou pulled him forward, steadying him by his shoulder.

“You’re doin’ great, let’s keep going.”

“R-right.”

Choukichi expected Gorou to move ahead, a cycle of falling behind doomed to repeat itself ad infinitum. Instead, Gorou matched Choukichi’s pace. Choukichi was too flustered to notice how often Gorou looked over at him.

Distracted by the lingering feeling of Gorou’s hand on his shoulder, Choukichi misstepped and nearly slipped. A startled peep brought Gorou to his side immediately, steadying him by his hip.

“Careful–”

“Y-yeah, sorry just… Lost my footing.”

It was embarrassing to mess up like this in front of Gorou, for Gorou to wait around while he floundered and flailed. Even more embarrassing to admit how nice the gentle touches felt on his shoulders, his hips– Why didn’t he just go on ahead? Choukichi knew he’d catch up eventually–

A boulder twice his size sat before him, impending and impossible. Choukichi swallowed.

“I’ll give you a boost, hm?”

Gorou’s hand was on his shoulder again.

“Uhm, yes please. Thank you.”

“So polite!” Gorou chirped, shuffling around so he was behind him. “Ready?”

Choukichi nodded, and suddenly Gorou’s hands were on his hips. He was barely able to stifle a squeak as Gorou lifted him with little effort. Choukichi scrambled to grab onto the ledge above him. Gorou pushed from beneath, his broad palms firm against his waist.

At least he couldn’t see the crimson flush on his face.

Choukichi stood up and brushed the dirt from his uniform. Seemed foolish to always wear white. Gorou followed behind, showing off some of the circus acrobatics that made him the Great Gorou Oshiro.

“Good?”

“Mm.”

The ground had now evened out; it seemed they had passed the most difficult part of their trip. Still, Gorou walked alongside him, matching his pace.

“He won’t break!!” Chouko called from up ahead. “It’s all clear now, c’mon!”

Gorou’s face flushed.

“Just like spendin’ time with my good pal Kichi,” he grumbled, his hand on Choukichi’s back. “Nothin’ wrong with that!”

Keiler of course kicked him out (temporarily), and later Augie and Keiler worked together to figure out how the two of them can get Augie out of debt. Currently Augie lives with Keiler as his roomate and best friend, and helps him with house work and chores more often. Why You Love Them: Stupid fucking cat guy.
