Something something… the idea that Nanami is actually a cow… something something
This idea works so well with my interpretation of Utena as an allegory for overthrowing systems of oppression (specifically the patriarchy). To me Nanami represents the dehumanization of women (oppressed minority) under the patriarchy and how building your identity around a man (oppressor) is the only way to be seen as almost human. Nanami is a cow, but by sentencing her entire identity around Toga and being his sister she can become human, she is so scared of being seen as an animal (as seen is the eggpisode). I think this is why she becomes almost a background character after thinking that Toga is adopted, only appears as a small cameo in the manga and is a cow in the movie. She built her entire identity on being Togas sister, someone who is irreplaceable to him, and now that she thinks she isn’t it falls apart.
Also I don’t think Nanami is romantically in love with Toga, I think it’s like with the kitten, she’s jealous. And I think she thinks that if she can somehow fulfill Togas romantic needs that she won’t have any competition for his attention.

I don't see Noralities get a lot of attention, but I want to emphasize that these essays are fantastic. Their passion for Utena really shines through with a really strong interpretation!

An Isekai anime that doesn't use only stereotyping is refreshing!
(as a woman it’s nice to not roll my eyes or sigh for every panty shot or normalized sexual harassment behavior from the male hero)
Suzune and Ryusen relantionship
One of my favorite : Yes, Woman and man can spend time together and being friends. It is nice to enjoy time with a colleague.
(well, we don’t know for sure if their relantionship will evolve. Ship them if you want. For now my ace heart was pleased).
Multidimensional characters are what I crave !
Within 5 minutes of the episode we have three stereotypes :
- Genious student council president : smart, team leadar, sportive … : Suzune
- Smart, capable and composed student council vice-president : Ryusen
- normal guy : Usato
Don't get me wrong, clichés and stereotypes are useful. They give you a sense of knowledge and help you get into the story more easily.
Although when someone is only the "funny guy/girl" who is a cute and silly cinnamon roll for 10 episodes. Then, say an inspirational quote for the last episode, it is a frustrating and quite boring experience.
That’s why, when the magic circle appeared I was happily surprised.
Ryusen is freaking out. Usato is surprised but almost chill and Suzune is really excited about the event
That’s the moment, I said to myself, it might be interesting.
Usato has empathy and is attentive to his surrondings (I link it to the bird scene). Before saying Ryusen as to calm down, Usato acknowlegdes his anger and makes him understand that it is not a good option for them.
Like in real life, only shooting to someone to stop is often not effective, but if you add emotion (by example : « you seem hurt let’s discuss about it » or « you are right to be angry but it’s not my fault » …) you create a space for both your emotion to connect (at least in my real life experience maybe their is an on/off bouton I haven’t discovered yet).

Am I too old ? Is the world a better place now for teenagers ? (calm down. I am not your mom, I am only in my late-twenties) ,or I have watched too many crappy or clichéd anime.
Simply, two guys checking how they are feeling. « Like, are you alright dude ? I am pretty angry to be here. How about you ? ».
No stupid joke, nothing pervy about the magician « nun outfit » (I don’t mak judgmenys, she is rocking this outfit).It feels realistic. Amazing.
To sum up, I enjoyed being surprised. I have watched countless anime for years and more often than not you can predict what will happen or what characters will say. I know I am not the only one. Sadly we are not super human, it is the source material which is poor.
Suzune is not the « Damsel in distress » or the nurse / the one caring for the guys . In fact she is the main character in spirit. Usato and Ryusen are bonding over their insecurities about being
thrown out into another world (in opposition to Suzune who is living her best life).
Additionally, I am sick and tired of genre stereotypes. . Woman as to be gentle, elegant, weak … Man have to be strong, fearless, insensitve …
It doesn’t seem like it in this anime, I have hope

revolutionising the world w my nanami video essay someday i promise you guys. in the meantime this is a playlist of daise approved utena video essays if you even care. i have um’d and ah’d about including the clear and sweet aou analysis series bc i think it’s wonderful in so many ways but do disagree with the fundamental read of the movie so. ehh. my general rule for including something on this playlist is ‘the analysis must be considered, somewhat original, something that i either agree with or think is valuable to keep in mind’. if there was less ‘the series isn’t as good’ and half-reaching at what my interpretation of aou is, then that aou series would probably be on here. i do recommend it but it just doesn’t feel right to have it on here sorryyy

I fucking miss Noralities so much. I love her videos. I know she got into some pretty hot controversy I think twice awhile back, but honestly, I really don’t think it was that bad. I don’t watch isekai anime so I don’t really have an opinion on that, but the corn scene in Dr.Stone? Yeah that had me going…”wth…?” And of course like 15 YouTuber needs to make videos fucking TRASHING on Noralities and her opinions and her evidence. I even saw one heavily state her video was in the perspective of a “female anituber” and bruh has like an average of 10 views per video, an ugly set up, no real work put into her videos, ect., but because shes 1 woman who disagrees with Noralities, like 100k+ people are on her side and using her as a valid reasoning to further hate on Noralities.
I fucking hate the anime community bro. One mention of women and loli’s and you’re harassed and blacklisted.
Edit: also something I just noticed, when it’s a man talking about these issues with how women are written in shounen anime and how loli’s being sexualized is an issue, people will be fucking sucking their dicks because “he’s RIGHT! Finally someone talking about this!” But then when a WOMAN talks about these SAME ISSUES, it’s “anime are for MEN!” “Get out out our community NORMIE” “ugly bitch!” “You’re delusional!”
Edit 2: getting back into the anime community, or at least wanting to get back into it, is reminding me why I left and dipped off the internet for awhile a few years back-bc people fucking suck.

Classpecting Mytharia characters!
So I'm a big Homestuck fan and a big Mytharia fan so I gotta classpect them!
Cal is 100% a Prospit Dreamer, no way around it. She's also definitely Hopebound. I'd say she's a Knight of Hope. She protects everyone with her hope and determination!
Coolio Coolington is also a Prospit Dreamer I'd say. Coolio strikes me as Lifebound though I debated Heart as well. Coolio also strikes me as a Witch, a Witch of Life. He manipulates reality through his spells to test the limits of his magic and protect his friends!
Cresie Beilar is a Prospit dreamer and 100% Heartbound. Cresie could be either a Knight or an Heir. We haven't seen a ton of her personality so currently I would place her as a Knight but I could also see her getting changed through her passion, soul, and heart and actually being an Heir. Either a Knight of Heart or an Heir of Heart.
DOOR is hard to place in his lunar sway but I'd go with Derse over Prospit. Specifically because of how he hides his insecurities. DOOR took a minute to place in aspect too, I considered Breath but I lean more in on Rage now. Especially because that would make him the exact opposite of Cal in both lunar sway and aspect. DOOR is also a Bard without argument. A Bard of Rage like Gamzee.
Spider-Volt is actually the first one I thought about and I discussed with some fellow Mytharia-heads and we came to the conclusion he's 100% a Derse dreamer and probably a Prince of Time. He is destruction, remember what he did to that one dude turning him into mist before destroying the others head? Pure destruction and an ending for both of them.
Niles Norales is also hard to place into lunar sway. But I ultimately think he would be a Derse dreamer. He doesn't care what others think and has a good grasp of himself and his self-awareness. I also think he would be a Bloodbound.
due to his strong focus on connections to others, and his loyalty to his friends. Niles could be a Knight as well, but I actually think he would be a Page who's already partway through his arc of becoming more powerful through his connections with others. A Page of Blood.

Ive been watching a lot of YouTube creator's stuff recently. A lot of religious deconstruction and different anime reviews and game playthroughs. Its nice, soft voices and fun video editing, engaging content I connect with and learn from. But I'm kinda stumped right now because one of the videos sign off (noralities' magical girl yuri video) ended with her very kindly saying "it's going to be alright" Such a simple sign off but I had to wipe away a tear because it's been so long since I heard that with sincerity. Another creator, belief it or not, ends all his videos with "I love you, thank you, goodbye" and that also fills me. I feel full after hearing that. An internet stranger says I love you to a dark camera in a lonely room and I, months or years later, get to feel a touch of that moment. Idk there's something to be said about how we yearn for connection so much just to be soothed by the words we grew up with in a stranger's voice.
