𝕬𝖚𝖙𝖍𝖔𝖗: April Fools, I guess? I mean, you get to terrorize a Night Lord. :)
𝕿𝖆𝖌𝖌𝖊𝖉: @kit-williams, @egrets-not-regrets.
TW // Language.
Tumblr media
There you stood, with a water bottle in your hand. Holding it like a gun. Finger ready to pull the trigger on it.
The Night Lord, frozen in his spot. Stared down the barrel of the bottle. Looking between you and the cursed thing.
He thought that he had gotten rid of every. Single. One. Down to the “last” crushed spine of one before raiding your house, but it seems like you had one hidden right underneath your sleeves.
His gauntlet twitches, gaining your attention for a split second as your eyes flicker down to it. Perhaps he could use that to his advantage?
He twitches his gauntlet again with purpose this time, yet you didn’t fall for it again. You know what tricks they play. Hmmmm.
“Don’t.” The human growls at him as he slightly side steps to the right while he almost growls back, his fangs baring at you. If it weren’t for that dreaded bottle.
He gets a spay towards his gauntlet. His torso twisting to the side to barely avoid such poison. He nearly bares his fangs again and hisses, but doesn’t. He recognizes the warning.
This human is not playing around.
“Hisses, growls, and fang baring are not permitted in this household.” The human stated like he didn’t know what the rules were before. He’s heard them enough times.
The human nearly sprays at him again and again when he moves where she doesn’t want him to be. Leading him back out where he came from. Herding him back out like a pack of sheep.
He immediately stops, refusing to go back outside and takes a hit to his plate of armor. His fangs automatically baring and hissing before he even knows what he done as his eyes never backed down from his attackers eyes. Awaiting his death blow.
Yet… it never comes.
Instead, he hears the empty sound of the water bottle and he slowly grins.
Oh? Is this little human out of water?
He laughs, and he laughs hauntingly so. His voice going through the air like a phantom.
Ooooh, sh*t.
You throw the rest of the water bottle at the Night Lord, hitting him straight on the forehead while you booked it out of that room. Vaulting over a couch while you’re at it.
“Come back to me little darling, I only wish to repay you.” He purrs, laughing out once more as he dashes through the house in search of you.

Questions
Author’s note: A third fic for Nadesir! Previous. Next
Tagged: @egrets-not-regrets
Warnings: none! Please ask me to tag if you find something squicky or triggering
Summary: You ask about those strange teal marines. What you get is a peek into Astartes Internal Politics.
"Vanya... Who were those strange marines? Please tell me why you've been hovering so closely, as of the past three months. It's not as if those shape-shifting marines have been back... Right?" You ask, staring up at your Night Lord, resisting the urge to put your hands on your hips or cross your arms over your chest defensively. Currently you were in the break room of the hospital you'd been working at, with him as your own personal - if very large - shadow. When he wasn't off on a hunt, he'd decided to stick to your side as if you'd disappear if he didn't see you all the time.
"... I still go on hunts. We aren't together all the time." Vanya pointed out, a small pout on his lips that you refused to think of in the moment as endearing. His wings shifted and flexed against his back a little, and you noted the way that his claws extended and sheathed themselves. You silently wonder if he's aware he's doing that, or if it was a nervous tic. You wanted to know why he - and every other marine in town - had been so stressed. No one was able to get them to talk about it,a nd it was beyond frustrating and worrying.
"Yeah. As if I wouldn't notice the Salamanders or Ultramarines lurking in my bushes when you're gone. None of you did this before those teal marines showed up, so why? Who are they?" You press. You stand up and make your way over to where he's standing - leaning against one corner of the room, eyes on the windows and the door into the room. You gently take one of his large hands in both of yours, running your fingers over his knuckles and tracing the lines of his palms "You've mentioned that we're bonded... That makes us partners, right?"
"I... Yes. We are bonded. I will protect and care for you for as long as I am able." Vanya responded, his free hand reaching up to cup your face, and gently rubbing his thumb across one of your cheeks. "Never doubt your safety while you are with me... Please." His voice broke a little on that last word, and you could see tears in his midnight black eyes.
"Oh... Vanya. Of course I trust you." You murmur, going up on your tiptoes to give him a kiss on the shoulder - the highest part of him that you could reach without him bending over or you finding something to climb on. "I just want to know what's going on. Why. and I'm not the only one who wants to know why my partner's acting as if we're going to be invaded at any moment. The bright yellow space marines building defensive structures all over town isn't in the least bit subtle. Nor are the steel grey and hazard striped marines trapping the roads in and out of town. What's going on? We want to be able to help! Or at least understand why all of you are preparing for what feels like war."
Vanya flinched a little at the mention of war. He stares into your eyes intently for several moments before letting out a long, deep sigh. "The teal marines are members of the Alpha Legion. They are dangerous, not just because they are Astartes, but because of their... Specific skillset and abilities. They are spies, saboteurs. Social engineers - but unlike the Blueberry Boyscouts who maximize the efficiency of everything around them in order to ensure the optimal happiness of everyone around them - the only ones aware of why and what their goals are is the Alpha Legion themselves... And most likely, their -" He abruptly stopped talking, ducking his head a little.
You were about to ask more about this Alpha Legion when one of the Space Marine Apothecaries (their equivalent to doctors) came walking in. He was in his primarily white armor, with some green. It was a darker shade of green than salamanders' wore, and the emblem on his pauldron was different. Instead of a drake's head, it was a sword pointed down, with a pair of wings coming out from the hilt of the blade. Two dark green and black painted Astartes followed after him, followed by a chaplain of the same chapter. You didn't recognize the legion emblem, but it was very clear to you that Vanya did.
Vanya scooped you up and tucked you behind him, his wings wrapping around you tightly. You could feel him trembling slightly. He began talking in Gothic - the language that all Space marines spoke (at least in the area you lived in) - very rapidly. He'd been teaching you the language, but you could only pick out a few words "Why." and "You." and "Here." but that was far from the only thing he'd said.
One of the dark green marines began to speak, the bass rumble demanding attention. You caught the words "Legion." and "Reseach." but his accent was very different from Vanya's, making it more difficult for you to begin to understand what he was saying. "Vanya, what's going on?" You ask, gently touching one of his wings to get his attention after the strange marine stopped talking.
Vanya flinches under your touch. "Interrogator Chaplain wants to talk to us. I don't know why he's here. I don't want him here. I've told him that unless I'm being arrested, I refuse to speak to him or his brothers without Captain Urar or two of his lieutenants present."
"... Why would these marines be the ones arresting you? I've never seen them before." You ask. You'd also like to know why he might be getting arrested, but that's a different kettle of fish to fry later.
"They're Dark Angels." Vanya says, as if that's supposed to mean anything to you. It really does not, but you can tell that this is Not The Time to ask clarifying questions about strange astartes. "Is there any way I can help? I do have my phone." You are barely whispering, but are well aware of just how sensitive Space Marines' hearing is.
"Please text one of your coworkers who is bonded... To an Ultramarine. I think they have a better relationship to the first than Salamanders do." Vanya responds. He isn't making much sense, but hopefully he will explain once this situation is dealt with.
You nod and text Melody [Four Dark Angels - including someone called an Interrogator Chaplain according to Vanya are in the break room. Can you send Arrios and Vitius in here to help? Vanya's scared :(]
The bass-voiced space marine spoke again, this time you could clearly understand him "Night Lord Raptor, you will set down the human you are currently holding in your wings and come with us. We'd like to talk to you about your encounter with a squad of Alpha Legionnaires."
"... There isn't much to tell, chaplain." Vanya countered, and you could tell he was trying very hard not to sound as worried as he was to these strangers "As I informed Captain Urar months ago, I was headed back to the home I share with my bonded - who I am currently holding and she has not asked me to put her down, so I won't - after hunting some of the... I believe they are called elk? and was carrying the elk I had killed home in order to dress the body and prepare the meat and bones for consumption when I heard her speaking to someone who was using a copy of my own voice. I dropped the deer and sprinted to her side at full speed, calling for assistance as I had noted the tracks of more astartes around our home territory and knew that none of the local astartes would tread so close to our home and not be in easy sight line so as not to provoke a misunderstanding. I found an alpha legionnaire pretending to be myself and drove him out of the house. Two squads of flamer-wielding Salamanders chased them into the woods."
"You did not hunt down the Alpha Legionnaire for invading your home territory and pretending to be yourself to your bonded?" Bass asked, sounding equal parts skeptical and surprised.
Your phone buzzed. You read the text from Melody [Vitius and Arrios are on their way. ETA 1 minute. Any bloodshed?]
That didn't help your nerves at all. Thanks Melody! You think sarcastically as you text her back [None yet. Four against one aren't good odds, even if Vanya can fly. Though he's currently wrapped me up in his wings.]
"I was focused on making sure that my bonded felt safe in our home and securing the internal perimeter. I have been working alongside the other tracker-trained astartes who live here to try and find the Snakes hiding in the woods, but, as you should well know, trying to find a hiding alpha legionnaire is about as easy as catching smoke in high winds when they don't want to be found. I do not know if anyone else has had run-ins with these particular shapeshifters, you'd need to request information from the acting chapter master." Vanya answered, his wings tightening a little further around your body, though his shaking had slowed down a little.
"... And the acting chapter master is...? Do you recognize him as your chapter master, and all that entails, Night Lord?" Bass-y Astartes asked.
Vanya's answer came after a long pause "The acting chapter master of this town is Captain Urar... And if you insist on knowing the answer to the second question..."
"I do." Bass pressed.
"... I do recognize captain Urar as my chapter master, while l live in this area. In this time." Vanya responded, voice quiet but steady.
"Interrogator Chaplain Sariel, is there a particular reason why you and your... Brothers have deigned to grace this hospital with your presence? None of you are injured." The familiar and welcome voice of Apothecary Arrios called out, sounding equal parts annoyed and exasperated. "And I know for a fact that there aren't any injured Dark Angels being tended to in this hospital."
"We have been tracking the movements of several different alpha legionnaire squads in this region. When I noted that one of the more influential squads came here I brought my brothers to investigate why they came here." Bassy responded with a small huff in his voice.
"Well if you figure that out, please do tell the rest of us. As far as any of us can figure, the damned snakes decided to try and steal one of our bonded humans for the entertainment value. If you have any more questions, please direct them to captain Urar or Lieutenant Dexrial, who are our acting Chapter master and first captain respectively. Please stop badgering random members of our rag-tag community without warning, it's stressful for everyone involved." Vitius interjected, also sounding annoyed and mildly bored.
"... Fine, although I will remind you of just how dangerous allowing traitors in your midst is. Good day, brother apothecaries." Bass growled.
You could hear the sounds of several astartes leaving the room. Vanya did not put you down.
"How are you holding up?" Arrios asked, sounding genuinely concerned.
"I am unharmed. Your arrival was quite timely." Vanya murmured. You could hear the gratitude in his voice.
"Good! Throne, this is getting more annoying by the week. First hydras trying to steal our dear humans away, now a throne-cursed Dark Angel Interrogator Chaplain and his goon squad here. Fuck! I was hoping to avoid this kind of nonsense when my human decided to move to a town of this size. See you around." Arrios called out, before you could hear another set of astartes sized footsteps leaving.
"You sure you're alright?" Vitius asked after several moments had passed.
"Yes, I'm fine. A little off-balance from one of them showing up unexpectedly, but nothing I cannot handle." Vanya responded. "... Tell my bonded's boss that she's coming home early with me. I... I need to keep her close. Keep her safe in our nest. She really doesn't like it when I growl at her patients."
Vitius answered "Of course. Captain Urar's likely going to want to talk to you, when you're ready to handle that."
"I... I know. It's... I will." Vanya responded, his wings curling a little tighter around you.
You gently rub his wings, hoping that the touch is grounding for him. You'd like to protest that you'd like to finish the rest of the work day... But Vanya is still shaking, and he sounds so vulnerable. If extra cuddles is what he needs to calm down, extra cuddles are something you're happy to offer him.
"Thank you, Cousin." Vitius murmured. "Take care."
"I will." With that Vanya, still holding you, walked out of the hospital. You wiggled a little, but all that provoked was a small, anxious whine from your Night Lord, so you stayed still until he eventually put you down, wings unfurling from around your body.
You weren't surprised to find that he'd taken you home. You smile gently up at him and ask "Hug?"
"Hug." He agrees, once again picking you up as his strong arms wrap around you. He buried his face in your shoulder, breathing in deeply as you ran your fingers through his long black hair.

Run rabbit run
YANDERE NIGHT LORD RAPTOR TIME
Also trying out this mood board shit please lemme know if its good
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
tw: Yandere, kidnapping, He's a fucking Night Lord but this is pretty chill, dialogue heavy will probably have to write a follow up for this one.
He watched from his perch the screaming and the crying. But Ghosk Sevyrarek always had a good eye for the unusual like the leggy little thing sliding against the pavement. Pushing what the baseline human body was capable of... his black eyes raking over those thigh muscles as they are pushed to the limit of human ability. He watched the prey driven members of the warband rush after the little rabbit.
Oh this wasn't just a normal human he figured watching how they cleared a jump with ease as three night lords rushed after like newly turned to chaos space wolves. He rolled his eyes at the display of their mindlessness knowing full well what would happen to this darling... he blinked at the thought. When was the last time he called anything a darling....
Nostromo... He recoiled at feeling nostalgic as that would only bring guilt. His decent mood felt soured... it wasn't the rabbit's fault as much as he wanted to blame the darling. Oh she very much was a darling... a pretty thing a pretty little rabbit. He could swoop down and stop the neophytes playtime with just a quick snap of her neck like a good hunter would.
He was losing fun with the warband... Ghosk figured he would lend his services to another warband of brothers... and then another... and then another. He snarled as he eyes watched the little leggy darling. Murder and torture was no longer giving him any thrill and more and more often he found himself feeling the barest emotion of regret. Coward... he hears some foul voice in his mind whisper.
The pretty rabbit was getting tired she was struggling to make those turns... her lungs were burning up probably. His leathery wings spread into the smoke licked night sky as he dove from his perch. She couldn't do it any more! She physically couldn't run anymore and she turned to look at the three monsters with glowing red eyes and skull faces. How they howled with laughter and glee purring and cooing what they would do to her.
The pavement exploded behind her as all she had time was to look behind her... maybe maybe the Emperor did send an angel? But with the leathery wings that came out of the smoke she wondered if they were right... there was no Emperor here. Ghosk ignored the vox messages as he grinned with glee down at the little rabbit before he grabbed her and jumped into the air letting her scream in fear.
"Let go of me!" She screamed.
"Well if you say so." Ghosk cooed and dropped her watching the wind rip through her hair before he dove after her and twirled her back into his arms. "Thought about it... maybe not the best place to let you go." He say laughing.
He played this game with her flying higher and higher and dropping her or tossing her around. Her reuniting with his armor was causing her to bruise and the next time he tried to drop her he watched her cling onto him. "Aww little rabbit are you done flying with me?" He put his hands under her arms and brought her close to his face to have her nuzzle his helm.
He watched her gag at the smell of death coating him but he listened to her whimper, "Please if you're going to kill me just let me go."
"See that's the fun part little rabbit! I don't know if I'm going to kill you yet. I could... though I might not." He says landing on a building with a huff as he sits her down, delicately placing a claw under her chin, "Now if you want your death to be slow and agonizing I would recommend you move from this spot. Got it?"
He watched her nod and he pat her head like the good girl she was. "Now where was I..."
"You said you might not kill me?" His little rabbit spoke as he watched her massage those delicious legs of hers.
"Yes I might not because you little rabbit bring up pesky little memories."
She gave Ghosk a curious look. Ghosk on the other hand pulled off his helmet and shook some of his hair free. "You know you'll probably just get hair in your mouth when you put that helmet back on." His little rabbit squeaked out.
"Oh feeling a bit mouthy then pet?"
"Listen you say I bring back memories. I assume you're just going to kill me in a different way."
"Awww pet do you trust me that little?" He cooed over at her and she just gives him a 'really' look. "No I'm not going to kill you yet." He watches her roll her eyes. Oh he's in a good mood! He likes sassy little darlings though you've half resigned yourself to a fate he has yet to decide. What a pretty little darling you are.
"Alright I'll bite..." He watches her pause as she makes a disgusted face as he returns the look with something more lewd at her suggestion, "Um... I bring back memories."
"Yes you do." Ghosk becomes serious as he paces slightly, "Pesky little memories and feelings of a life long long gone. Yet Oh I don't know... maybe I'm just bored with all of this." He gestures to the burning city though for him he gestures to the dropship with his "brothers" god... the Iron Warriors feel like they have more brother hood... no the fucking World Eaters have far more comradery than he does with his supposed brothers.
"Why don't you just go then?" She holds back a groan as she rubs her sore legs but she looks up at her "savior". "If you're bored with it I'm certain the Emperor can forgive you right?"
Ghosk threw his head back and laughed hard when he finally calmed down he tried to compose himself, "Oh you're a funny little thing. He walked over and his right wing grabbed her and picked her up as she squirmed obviously freaked out by the way the membrane hugged her. "Careful little one... I've suffocated someone with my wings try not to squirm too much." He said looking over the edge before jumping down the few stories. "Now where were we... right. I was laughing at your suggestion. But I might move on... just I hardly have anything holding me here." He looked to his rabbit tucked into his wing as it curled around her like a large hand just holding her and caressing her with its thumb as he looked to her.
"What do you want me to say? That you shouldn't go? Oh yeah no totally stay here with the rest of the psychopaths."
"See that's what I don't want to do. I'm just so bored with it." Ghosk said with some dramatics.
"Then I guess you can leave them behind and we can part on friendly terms."
He dramatically turned his head toward her and cocked it to the side. "And leave my dear little rabbit at the mercy of wolves who will most likely break you in many many ways." He cooed as she shrank slightly.
"I have a feeling you're going to break me too."
He pursed his lips for a moment tapping his chin. "I might try that consent thing. But no my rabbit... you're not leaving my side. We're on this journey of self discovery together! Won't it be fun?"
He hummed as he walked past his brothers holding his prize and put his helmet back on his head and felt annoyingly amused... his little rabbit was right... he did get some of his hair caught in his mouth. "

𝕬𝖚𝖙𝖍𝖔𝖗: What happened to our guardians? I forgot it was Valentine’s Day. Happy Valentine’s Day!
𝕿𝖆𝖌𝖌𝖊𝖉: @kit-williams
TW // Curse.
Tumblr media
“Another one?” I deadpanned at my roommate. Her hands holding a little Death Guard that looked around confused.
“I don’t know where I keep finding them!” She said, not really sounding… thrilled. Her hazel eyes looking down at the little smelly thing in disgust. Nose scrunching up.
Well at least she has some humanity? To pick one up, and take it to a safer place.
“Anyways, i’ve got a club date to go to. Mind taking it?” She suddenly said, pushing the little Death Guard towards me as I hurriedly unfolded my arms from my chest to grab the little thing. His little form practically rolling onto my hand.
“Wha- since when? I thought you had work tonight?” I questioned her, helping the little Death Guard in my hands to stand up right. A little sound coming from him.
“Uhhhh, an hour ago! I did, but my boss let me off again!” She shouted from the hallway. Sounding like she was putting on some heels.
“Are you gonna—” The front door slammed shut. Shaking the whole apartment. “Never mind, I’ll just do it myself.” I mumbled. Looking down to observe over the little Death Guard.
The little guy looked fairly normal for a Death Guard. He had the basic dirt green, and concrete color of his armor. Two sets of bull-like horns on his helmet, an pair facing downward, and random curved spikes on his pauldrons. No extra mouth, horns, or spikes so far. No wounds either.
“You seem rather healthy.” I mostly talked to myself, getting another little sound from the stinky guy.
This ‘mini’ situation had me puzzled? I never would have thought I would see Astartes be so small. Usually, they were these huge, bulked masses of armor walking around wherever they pleased. Protecting you, rather than the other way around.
It even had the Apothecary astonished, when I have took the other three there. Saying they have never seen such phenomenon, before they immediately started running all sorts of tests on the little guys that admittedly had me a little worried for them.
Those tests lasted for about three days? I had the right to worry about it. What if they accidentally killed them with those big *ss needles in the back? What if they really weren’t an Apothecary?
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting to be called back into the Apothecary to come and collect them. Becoming assigned to them as their “caretaker.” Their reasons being: One, they don’t know who their warband is, or if they even have a warband. And two, I was the first person they ever saw, and care for the miniature Astartes.
Now I was stuck with a World Eater, Thousands Son, Night Lord, and now? A Death Guard that Sharon somehow found out of nowhere.
Multiple tiny squeaks called out to me from the kitchen countertop. The rest of the group standing there looking up at the little Death Guard in my hands.
“Well, little Death Guard. You’re going to be stuck with me for the time being.” I informed him. Bringing my hand forward slowly to the rest of the group so he could greet the group.
Watching as the Death Guard gave me a warble before hopping off my hand. The rest of the tiny group surrounded the stinky guy, observing him. Distinguishing him.
They didn’t seem to be disapproving of the little Death Guard so far by they way the chirped at one another. There was no weapons drawn, and crouched positions. It was just like a regular greeting.
A far better meeting than between the Night Lord, and the World Eater. That I think, it stared off by the Night Lord teasing the World Eater, based on the Thousand sons gestures, and tiny chatter.
It didn’t help the little battle when the World Eater still had his “Butchers Nails” the Apothecary mentioned of him having. They couldn’t remove them because he was far too small for such a procedure to happen. So from time to time, the poor World Eater goes into a fit of rage. Tearing up anything in his way. Sometimes going after the other Astartes.
That’s where I step in most of the time. Slowly snatching him up from whatever surface I find him on. His tiny squirming form struggling in my hold, desperately stabbing, hitting my gloves that I was smart enough to put on.
When his raged energy had cooled down, I felt bad for holding the little guy in such a confiscating way and apologized to him. Putting him up to my collarbone as a resemblance of a hug.
Surprisingly, that spot was one of the groups favorite spot to just sit there, and hang on to. Probably liking the warmth, and “height” advantage it gives them.
“Need something?” I asked the group, seeing the gauntlet of the Thousand sons pointing up at me. Small chittering coming out of the group.
It took me a moment to understand what they wanted, but I eventually got it after a few more gestures.
“You? Want a bath?” I asked the Death Guard, raising a brow at him. Knowing Death Gaurds don’t like baths. I had to read a whole book about their quirks the Apothecary sent me with.
The Death Guard paused, then nodded. Hesitant on a such request.
“If that’s what you want.” I told him. Moving away from the counter to grab a small container. The group casually chatting away as I got the “bath” prepared.
Putting warm water with some soap. It mixed with one another, creating a bubbly container rather than just a basic container.
This was probably one of the first “baths” the Death Guard would have after a long while. Might as well make it count.
Placing the container of warm water, and bubbles next to the group. They all turned to look at it, and surround it. The Death Guard touching the container before quickly pulling away.
“You don’t have to take a bath. Instead, I’ll just throw him in it.” I mentioned to the Death Guard, pointing at the Night Lord who hissed in response, backing away slightly from the container of the soapy water.
The little Death Guard just peeped, and suddenly jumped into the container. A little plop rising from the container where he submerged himself in.
Carefully watching the container, the Death Guard emerged from the water. Bubbles sticking to him armor as another peep came from him. Chirps came from the rest of the group talking to him. Maybe encouraging him? Teaching him?
Well, either way, it was all going well. No one needed to go to the Apothecary tonight, or the morning.
Until the Night Lord pushed the World Eater into the container. Another plop rising from the water as the Night Lord armor rose up, and down in a laughing matter.
Once the World Eater rose from the water with even more bubbles on his armor than the Death guard. He was shouting threats to the Night Lord who stood above him looking very prideful of himself.
Who can resist such an opportunity?
On the act of vengeance, I snuck my hand behind him, and pushed the Night Lord into the container myself. A squeak coming from him as he plopped face first, right into the soapy water. Small chitters interrupting from the group with the Thousand Sons just shaking his head on the side lines.

Imposter
Summary: Nadesir comes home to find an Imposter talking to his human.  Next
Warnings: none
Tagged: @kit-williams
Nadesir adjusted the carcass of the large quadrupedal animal that he had been hunting for days in the forest that surrounded his bonded's home, pleased with his kill. Despite the animal's size, it had been quicker than he'd been expecting, and the pointed antlers it had used in a desperate charging in defense of it's life had somewhat dented his armor. Per the request of his human bonded, he had left a note on their "Communication Board" as she had called it saying that he was out for a hunt, and would be back in a few days. Ancient Terra was a far cry from the endless towers and thin, pollution-choked skies of what The Fools believed to be Holy Terra... But if divinity did exist - beyond Chaos being utter Bastards - Nadesir privately thought that it was in the natural beauty of this and worlds like it.
In the stillness of forests, In the thrill of the hunt.
... In the unexpected pull he had felt, years ago, to a small but fiery human woman who had growled at a half-dozen Salamanders who had found Nadesir half-dead and bleeding on the edge of small town that she served as one of the primary human medical professionals of. He had later learned that they were part of the Bonded Astartes who protected the humans from the predations of Feral Space Marines as apparently there were Human Killers. They had assumed that he was once such human killer, having been left behind due to being unable to keep up with the feral warband.
Nadesir, having been thrown through the warp from a truly shitty situation seconds ago, had not a single fucking clue what was going on. He'd been caught by some of the Red Corsairs who had been trying to soften him up for when their leader deigned to ask if he would join their warband. His precious bonded had shooed off the Salamanders and had spoken to him with more gentleness than he'd ever been given. Of course he'd been immediately smitten, and he had lived as long as he had by following his instincts - which had told him to follow this baseline human. She'd brought him to the small hospital and had the Apothecaries patch him up.
And not a single one of them had been thrilled to do it. Between the passive aggressive Ultramarine Apothecaries and the barely hidden hostilities of the Salamanders, the two loyalist chapter members had likely hoped that he would limp off to lick his wounds and leave them alone.
The joke had been on all of them, as Nadesir's bond with his human had only deepened over the weeks he'd spent in the hospital as she checked up on him at least once a day. There had been no question in his mind as to what he was going to do, when he was finally released. He had asked her, having done his very best to learn her language, if he could stay with her. He had phrased it as a debt that he owed her, for saving his life - knowing that at least one of the Ultramarines was listening and wanted to keep the... The softness, the yearning pull he felt for her from being known about and used against him. Her agreement had settled a nervous part of his soul that Nadesir hadn't known still existed.
That had been six years ago. The rest of the bonded Astartes had long since figured out that the two of them were bonded, and Nadesir had graciously agreed to patrolling the outskirts of the small town and pass along any intel about wandering war-bands that he was able to discover.
His bonded's voice broke him from his musing on the past, her warm, lovely voice soothing the part of him that always worried about her when he wasn't at her side "-at's when Doctor Jacobsen ordered another round of tests, like I had suggested weeks ago. Hopefully the lab facilities in the big city nearby will be able to help Mx. Sherdan. What do you think, Vanya?"
An astartes deep voice rumbled back, in an approximation of his voice. Utter confusion and dread filled Nadesir - Vanya was the name that his bonded had gifted him, and one he held close to his heart. As far as he knew, there was no one else named Vanya living near here, so why...? He didn't even notice that the elk he'd killed had dropped to the ground with a graceless thud as he broke into his fastest sprint, wings flaring a little in panic as his legs shortened the distance between himself and his beloved bonded. He could see several sets of Astartes sized footprints in the snow around her home - but the tread wasn't one he recognized... And besides, none of the other bonded astartes would dare go so close to his nest without sending him a vox message beforehand.
He slammed through the back door of their nest, the solid oak door having no chance against his enhanced bulk. He called out in Nostraman (he had been teaching her his first tongue), trying to keep his voice from trembling from the emotions roaring through him "Precious? Where are you?" He knocked down the doors between himself and from where he could hear the heart-beat of his bonded, staring at the imposter who dared take his form and voice.
His bonded blinked in confusion, looking at himself and the imposter several times, slowly starting to stand up from where she had been sitting on the couch, next to the imposter "I... What's... How?"
The imposter froze, staring at him for several seconds before blurting out "He's an imposter! I'll deal with him, stay here."
"LIAR! You are the imposter! I am the real Vanya! You dare sneak into my nest, try and charm my bonded while I am hunting for her?" None of the local astartes would dare, even if they had the capabilities. Which meant -
Fuck, he had been warned about this by the Salamander Captain who was the Defacto leader of the bonded astartes in this area. Nadesir sent a high priority vox message to Captain Urar [Alpha legionnaire invaded my nest. More likely close by.]
The Alpha legionnaire disguised as himself shrank back a little, but was still staying put "I am -" He started, only to be cut off by Nadesir's incredible, wonderful bonded.
"That's enough. I have no idea what the fuck is happening, but I do know of a couple of ways to figure out which of you is my Vanya. I am going to have one of you outside of my home, and the other inside - I am well aware of how sharp your hearing is, so I will have the one outside my house standing against the wind so as to not hear the questions I will ask. The real Vanya will answer correctly. Whichever of you is the imposter will be revealed and I want to know why you did this. Then you can seek shelter as yourself at the Astartes base in town."
"As you wish. Which of us is going outside?" Nadesir asked, crossing his arms over his chest. He really hoped that she would kick out the imposter, as the desire to rip and tear into this threat to his bonded, to his place was high, but he knew that his beloved disliked violence, and was just barely restraining himself. Still, as the imposter looked him in the eyes, he began to growl, bearing his teeth under his helmet, claws unsheathing on instinct.
Before his human could respond, several of the Teal Fuckers in their true colors came sprinting in through the back door, calling out in Gothic "Captain! We need to go! The salamanders are out in force and... If you're going to... Take the human... Ooooh fuck. She really does have a Night Lord."
Nadesir hissed loudly, scooping up his bonded before the serpentine bastards could attempt to kidnap his human, holding her firmly, careful to keep his claws from slicing through her clothes or worse, hurting her, spreading his wings and howling loudly (but not enough to deafen or injure his human. Ancient terrans were so delicate) "LEAVE! LEAVE NOW OR I WILL DISEMBOWEL EACH OF YOU AND MOUNT YOUR HEADS ON MY FENCE! I WILL WEAR YOUR SKIN AS CLOAKS AND USE YOUR SHITTY BONES AS DECORATION ON MY ARMOR!"
And, like the cowards they were, the alpha legionaries scrambled out the door, scurrying away like the filthy vermin they were. From the startled yelps and cursing, directly into the Salamander patrol that Urar sent.
Excellent response time, captain. Nadesir held his human tightly, removing his helmet and hiding his face in her neck, trembling. "I am your Vanya. My birth name is Nadesir, but you gifted me the name Vanya the third time we met in the hospital, before we could communicate with each other. Your favorite meal is venison steak with a foraged mushroom and green salad, with homemade bread. During our third year together you gave me this." He pulled out from beneath his armor a small, hand-carved wooden talisman that she'd given him. "You like to knit in the evenings after work, in order to destress. You hum in excitement when you're reading when you find a particularly thrilling passage. You-"
His human pressed two of her small and delicate fingers to his scarred lips, giving him a gentle kiss on the cheek "I can definitely tell you're my Vanya. I didn't know that space marines could shapeshift. Do you know who those marines were? I thought the one posing as you was a little off, but I thought that the fake you'd been sulking after an unsuccessful hunt."
"I do not sulk! Besides, when have I ever failed to provide for you?" Nadesir huffed, a small scowl appearing on his face.  He was not pouting, no matter what his bonded would claim otherwise. "As for the shapeshifters... Those were Alpha Legionnaires. Spies, thieves. Snakes in the grass who are capable of changing their colorings in order to try and trick others. I don't know why some would come here. This town is small. They like intrigue and causing havoc at a large scale."
"I see... I'm glad that you're home." His human murmured, hugging him tighter. "Stay with me?"
"Always." He promised, dark eyes warm as his grip on her tightened a little. They stayed curled around one another for the rest of the night, falling asleep on the astartes-sized couch.
