hi!! I just found out about tumblr having an anti-hindutva tag and I shall be making myself comfortable here! just found your account like a few mins ago and if it’s ok, i wanted to ask some questions (you absolutely don't have to answer if you don't like any of them or even if you don't feel like answering :) ) (edit added, this ask got way too long lol. feel free to skip it! also, you're kinda super cool lol)
I'm Indian, currently outside India, and I've only started learning about the shitshow going on in my 'mahaan bharat' since November (specifically since finding out that we are Irahell's biggest weapons buyer). and the more I find out the more shocked and heartbroken I feel...
like this week i learnt about the immigration ban in US against Chinese women that existed a few decades ago, and the ongoing discrimination against Palestinians in Canadian immigration services... and both the times I was so disgusted and there was this subconscious feeling that India should never be like that. but then an hour ago I learnt about the 2019 CAA and wtf!?
another example being that currently we're seeing israhell's continuous bombing of heritage sites of great cultural and religious significance, that also held so many centuries old records and histories... and learning about how they are bulldozing over graveyards and exhuming them...
and then today I learnt about Akhonji Masjid and Gyanvapi Masjid and of course have known about Babri Masjid for a few weeks now...
and only learnt about Kashmir in november...
and I feel like my whole worldview has shifted from a previous foundation, except it's so drastic and I still don't have a new foundation...
I try to talk to members of my family about this but they're the Indian equivalent of the U.S. liberals, and every single time they'll tell me "whatever news you're hearing is propaganda written by Pakistan/China/U.S./Russia. trust me I have Muslim friends and they're very happy. you just don't know the situation cause you're not in India" and like it sometimes make me think maybe I'm the one losing my mind...
I even read some places about free Punjab and that confused the fuck out of me cause I'm Punjabi (who does not live in Punjab) and I don't have any clue what it's about... I asked my fam, but they just gave me a weird look and told me to stay away from anyone that mentions Khalistan😭💀
(this got way longer than I expected, so sorry) but would you have any recommendations for any blogs/articles/books/podcast resources or any personal recommendations for news publications that are reliable (finding God would probably be easier than finding such publications lmao) like I thought Al-Jazeera is super credible, but then read that they're super credible when it comes to Palestine, not when it's global...
like where tf do I go from here lol
hello nonnie! some news sites I'd recommend are newslaundry (they have a youtube channel too), the wire, scroll.in and newsclick. maktoob media is mostly focused on minority rights in india. hindutvawatch.org is about hindu fascist violence committed against minorities. I still think you should stick to al-jazeera at least when it comes to palestine (they have journalists on the ground there, shireen abu akleh was one of them)
this is a good introduction to anyone wanting to learn about hindutva, this and this are about how india is becoming increasingly unsafe for minorites and is undergoing a democratic backsliding. this and this are about the rss link to nazism
hostile homelands by azad essa is about india's historical relationship with israel and the parallels between hindutva and zionism. the brown history podcast has an episode about how india went from the first non-arab state to recognise palestine to its largest buyer of weapons, featuring azad essa (x). you can also read colonising kashmir by hafsa kanjwal about how india came to militarily occupy kashmir. if you want to learn more about kashmir there are the blogs kashmiraction.org and standwithkashmir (which is um. blocked in india. i wonder why)
i have not read khaki shorts and saffron flags yet but this one is about the history of the rss. i also suggest watching the documentaries ram ke naam and jai bhim, comrade which are about the hindutva mobilisation in the 1980s
for me free punjab is very ?? the indian government is beyond evil as they continue to spy on sikhs abroad (and ofc, how can we forget the 1984 sikh genocide) but i don't think liberation will be achieved through a religious ethnostate. any state formed on the basis of a religion will inevitably turn out to be a disaster. i do encourage you to read lost in history: 1984 reconstructed by gunisha kaur, which is about the human rights violations committed against sikhs during this time and why operation bluestar was in fact not about freeing sri harmandir sahib from "terrorists." all i can say is to stand with sikhs unapologetically as our shitass government continues to commit more and more human rights violations against them
in general, i'd tell you to observe the language used by different news outlets and question it (eg. american news referring to israelis below the age of 18 as children but the same courtesy is not extended to palestinians) and check their sources. if it's from whatsapp university don't even bother

DAY 5619
Jalsa, Mumbai                  July 6/7,  2023                Thu/Fri  1:15 AM
Apologies for missing the Calendar updates 😔 .. but making up .. 🙏🏻
..
🪔 .. July 04 .. was no birthday ..
🪔 .. July 05 .. birthday of Ef Shashikant Pedwal from Pune .. and Rajat Watel from Jammu ..
🪔 .. July 06 .. birthday of Ef Pronobesh Roy Choudhury from West Bengal - Kolkata ..
🪔 .. July 07 .. birthday of Ef Saurabh Bhakri from New Delhi ..
Greetings to all and the joys of the World .. ❤️ from your Ef Family .. 🙏🏻🚩
Tumblr media
So .. a few days off .. and the days spent in reflection , rejuvenation .. not of the age kind but to gain the knowledge of what goes on inside the World of reflection .. smart yes ..
Yes ..
It is , or rather are the reflection days .. a wonder why certain ‘givens’ were given , why certain doings were being done .. why a name an act an act .. and so many other ‘whys’ ..
The curiosity widens .. and it is not the curiosity , it is the will of the mind to delve into regions which were in a sense reserved to ask or know ..
Now with age the ridicule has lessened .. now with time they that are asked or are brought into the picture by me , are convinced that the man is 81 , old decrepit and mental , bear him .. it shan’t be for long .. and the responses go on with a sense of  .. ‘poor guy , so uninformed , let him be .. etc etc etc .. “
Also the temerity to seek and voice matters that may never have been done earlier have reached the stage of a fearless disposition ..
So to start with ..
Wimbledon is on .. and the Women players get Women ex champions in the commentary box to speak and inform and comment .. most of the time .. the Men players get ex men champions in the box ..
BUT ..
Typically .. give a microphone to any individual and they shall never stop talking .. and this I notice often ..
In the game of tennis or any such moment , when the entire concentration is in the players and how their mind is working etc., the commentators keep talking .. hey ! I want silence at that time .. I want to get into the mind of the player and the ladies keep commenting on past games and opinions , and moments as to why he or she played so and so and such and such ..
NOOO ..
I do not want to be disturbed by your chatter .. give me all that you have to say in the break .. when the players wipe face drink energy, eat energy chocolate, complain to the Ref , ask questions facially to their team on the stands above , lament that the crowd is not with them .. and so on ..
then talk as much as you like .. !! hahah .. its limited there isn’t it , because the Ads., start .. hahaha .. the ad., money is so needed for the commerce of the Tournament .. many of you would not know that there never used to be a break in tennis before .. the players just changed sides and carried on .. the break was deliberately introduced to give time to the Ads., to run and for their Commerce to thrive ..
AND THANK THE LORD FOR THAT .. !! I get a job too .. the Ad.s and the endorsements  .. hahah !!
yes their experience and stories of past moments .. or guidance of how the game goes on and what the strategy should be - unless its an English Brit playing ..  then it’s all about them even when they are losing .. it’s always the ‘sun’ coming in the eyes , the wind is blowing against them when they serve or take a smash shot .. the shadow keeps changing on the court , the linesmen are making mistakes .. ufff .. the list is endless .. even when the opponent has given a amazing shot, the comment if its a Brit will be .. ‘he was there, foot slipped, would have returned it .. ‘
the exuberant adjectives used when there is a Brit commentator for Cricket and their team players hits 4 or a 6 ..  !!  listen to them .. they just go on and on in praise and compliments .. !!
And for us ..  it’s just a terse inform .. hehehe ..
WE  THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, NOTICE ALL THIS  ..
But we are a tolerant people .. just that ..  ‘गले ते  हथ ना लाई  !’  as we would say in Punjabi ‘don’t put your threatening hand on my neck’ .. because we will thoko ..  ठोको,  ..  .. गळ्यात हात ठेवला तर, ठोक देणार !!!
AAAh .. a favorite subject of mine  .. and I love noticing and commenting in private , but today .. गळ्यात हात ठेवला तर ठोक देणार !!
“ to ask the hard question is simple ‘ .. किसी मुश्किल प्रश्न को पूछना बड़ा आसान होता है
So have asked .. and the answers shall be in the known medium  !!!
Love respect .. affection and more ❤️

This post kind of went off the rails as I was writing it but I'm still having a nice time getting my thoughts down on paper so to speak, so here it is anyway! Read on for instant pot thoughts and chicken suggestions.
@thievinghippo also requested new chicken recipes, and I happen to be making one of my favorites tonight - Punjabi chicken curry! The specific recipe requires a set of spices that may be less likely to be in your kitchen if you don't cook Southeast Asian cuisine on the reg, and I don't want to reproduce a recipe in full that isn't already available online, but I highly recommend Anupy Singla's cookbook Instant Pot Indian. Everything I've made from it has been an absolute banger, and once you have the basic set of ingredients on hand the recipes come together quickly and easily. A lot of pureeing instead of chopping, and dumping stuff into the pot to simply set and forget rather than having to mind the stovetop. There are also many options for adjusting the spice levels to your tastes!
I've made some terrible instant pot meals - rubbery, watery, tough. I know a lot of folks who have given up on it as an appliance. I think the most important thing I've learned is to use recipes (at least as a jumping off point) that were truly designed and tested for that cooking method. Until very recently I hadn't really seen the point in buying cookbooks when so many recipes are available online, but man, the difference in quality is often SUBSTANTIAL. I do have some trusted online sources for recipes (I want to make a post listing them soon), but just Googling or using something like All Recipes is a minefield these days. I'm trying to make too many points at once here, but what I really want to get at for the moment is that the instant pot is Good Actually if you use it right.
In particular, chicken in the instant pot turns into easily-shreddable, juicy, flavorful deliciousness. Just throw in whole thighs or breasts (boneless or not) along with the other ingredients for chili, curry, stew, etc. It can also become pulled chicken sandwiches, or get added to a salad to make it a heartier meal. There are so many possible variations, but as a very general baseline...
2 pounds of meat
1 cup of liquid (broth, aquafaba from cans of beans, tomato sauce, or even just water - in my experience erring on the side of a little more liquid is better, since you can always drain some off, but you don't want anything to scorch if it's too dry)
1 tablespoon of Kosher salt
Set the timer to 10 minutes on high
For the curry I'm making tonight, I marinated the chicken in spiced yogurt, and then added diced canned tomatoes, pureed onion, garlic, and ginger, frozen peas, and a bunch more spices. About five tablespoons of spices in total for this dish, but that varies a lot by cuisine and what the spices in question are! I'm being purposefully vague because one of the skills I've most valued learning for day-to-day cooking is to freestyle with what I have on hand, rather than having to meticulously plan ahead for stocking specific ingredients. This does require having a stocked pantry of basics... another post for the future!

💚💙❤️♥️💛3/3❤️♥️💙💛💚 Happy Late 3/3 Day!! I’m two days late here but have all the 3s in my au! SELECT YOUR CHARACTER🎮👾 Here we have:
Tumblr media
A plant loving tree hugger 🌲🌿🍃🌱🪴
Tumblr media
A literal bluebird tweety man🦅 🐦
Tumblr media
A snappish yet wise rich prick 💰💸💵
Tumblr media
A whimsical musical alp grandparent🎵 🎼🎵
Tumblr media
A mortal turned god of fortune 🔮 🍀🪔✨
References/Trivia/Notes: (cause this post is long enough already lmao 😂 🤣)
Henry’s pose I used this basis from https://animebases.info/
Tumblr media
Wilfred’s pose I mainly based it off of Brook mainly this official one:
Tumblr media
RANDOM STUFF:
Wilfred is said to love music (he canonically whistles) so that’s kinda the reasons why I’ve picked Brook like if Ernest is the wise elder figure, Wilfred is totally the eccentric bouncy grandparent
I Gave him a more whimsical look like Brook like fancy (two feathers just for aesthetic) yet still willing to get dirty. Fun fact the music notes on his coat are from the Swiss national anthem, he has a conductor staff just for fun of it (his name and number are on the back of his coat)
Human/humanoid au he totally knows how to play many instruments and sings, totally uses the radio 📻 to listen to music, I know he looks like a henry but I saw a slighter different color on him on Deviantart made by LeatherBootlace with yellow so I added that to him
Off topic but Wilfred totally adopts my cfr diesels ocs (Corran Aldyn Shiloh Poll-ny-Chrink) since they also are musically in-tuned, he’a also a grandfatherly figure towards the others as well despite his moments of cynicism and age gap
Kyle very much has so many outfits throughout the years like the ones I’ve drawn during his time as Proteus so this would be of one his first appearances, he chooses the more storytelling fairytale like aesthetics like his feet are made entirely of gold dust so are his clothes he wears a cape simply to cover others in need and I tried to lean a bit more into his heritage
he looks up to Lady (still does but branches out later on and different views over humanity and morals and rights and wrongs that stuff honestly it’s complicated…) so sparkles at first he’s happy and excited over learning despite breaking down in tears to lady cause he wanted to fit the role despite being very modest and humble trying to look at the bright sides of things✨
kyles necklace is made up of many good luck charms like (four leaf clovers 🍀 horseshoes eye of Fatima etc)same with his belt he gets once he decides to wear a outfit he feels comfortable in, still quite elegant but he feels like himself since he still has control over his life somehow plus he brings good fortune instead of granting wishes (he kinda can but there’s a price)
Everyone in human au except Kyle (who’s mixed Bengali-Punjabi) and Adam (Filipino, maybe Jewish?) are Latino cause I couldn’t help myself haha , still working out the details on specific ethics
Henry has heterochima, still haven’t figured out the shades out though and Kyle can turn his sclera pupils and retinas into complete shades of different yellow to fit his new status (that was fun since he can use it to fit his cryptic nomad style later on after his first official fight) only his eyes remain sparkling gold in every other form✨

Ardab Mutiyaran
How did this film help women empowerment amongst Punjabi women?
In the Film, Ardab Mutiyaran, the main character is a young Punjabi woman portrayed as very strong, independent, and fearless.
Tumblr media
In Punjab, there are lots of stereotypes against women. Women are seen as fragile, weak, and unable to protect themselves. The main character of this movie is the exact opposite. Babbu Bains, played by Sonam Bajwa, is a strong, fearless, independent young woman. There are many scenes in this movie where Bajwa (Bains) is seen beating up men who thought they could take advantage of her. When men cat-call her, she makes sure to teach them a lesson on respecting women
Tumblr media
When I watched this movie for the first time, It was easy to love it. As a young woman who grew up in a Punjabi household, I have seen firsthand how these stereotypes of women come into play. Some examples of some stereotypes against women would be that women are girly and don’t know anything about cars. There is a scene in the film where Babbu is driving a stick shift Jeep with the windows down and blasting music. This shows that women are also able to drive stick-shift cars, not just the men. I know it may sound like this isn’t a big deal, but for us Punjabi women, it is. Another example is how women are “weak” and “unable to protect themselves”. In the same scene where she is seen driving a stick-shift car, there are three men on a motorcycle following beside her. The three men basically began cat-calling her. She ignored them at first but then when they sped up and passed her, she sped past them and pulled her car right in front of them and stopped. When she got out of the car, they thought she was reciprocating their feelings, when she really wasn’t. She asked if any of them had a phone, and to note the number she was reciting. When they asked if that was her phone number, she replied with, “ਹੱਡੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਦਾ ਨੰਬਰ ਹੈ”, which translates to “It's an orthopedic doctors number”. As the three men looked at each other in confusion, she went to her car and grabbed a bat. I’ll allow you to imagine what happened next!
Tumblr media
As mentioned in Punjabi Manias' article about the film, the new generation of films is beginning to focus on strong female leads. For a long time, the film industry has been making movies with prominent leadership roles. These films all have two things in common, strong men, and women who needed to be saved by these strong men. These movies are teaching young people that the strong women in their lives will never be as strong as the men, which is wrong. That's why this movie is important to Punjabi women.
In Punjab and India in general, women are oppressed, not only by the men in their lives but by the government as well. If a woman is sexually assaulted by her husband, there are no consequences. She cannot go to the authorities for help because talking about such things is seen as  “shameful”. Even if she were to ask someone for help, nothing would be done, since the assault was committed by her husband. The woman's husband has more rights over her body than she does.
That is why, movies like this are important. People need to see that women can be more than just stay at home mothers who cook and clean all day.
Tumblr media
The main character, played by Sonam Bajwa, also has an important effect on this film. Sonam Bajwa is an actor and model who is in lots of Punjabi films. She is known for her popular roles, and for breaking norms about Punjabi women. She is seen in lots of music videos and ad campaigns wearing clothing that would not be considered “modest” in Punjabi culture. Usually, women are seen wearing full clothing head to toe, so to see Bajwa wear crop tops and shorts, is something that took some getting used to in Punjab. In western countries, the clothing she wears would be seen as very normal, but for a country that expects it is women to be modest, it is anything but normal. For a popular Punjabi woman who is very much in the spotlight, she plays an important role in breaking these norms in our culture.
On her Instagram, @sonambajwa, she posts videos of her working out, modeling, etc. Her 7.5 million followers love seeing her confident content. From posting pictures of herself in bathing suits to videos of her lifting weights, Bajwa shares it all on her Instagram. She is breaking the norms that women should be scared to post whatever they want without being judged and criticized.

In the film, there is a song called “Jatti Jeone Morh Wargi”. The title translates to “She is like Jeona Morh”. Jeona Morh was a historical symbol of Justice. He fought against the injustice his family faced and was seen as a strong person. In the movie when this song plays, someone asks for her help and she goes to help her friend with a weapon. People trembled at the sight of her. This is important because she was seen as someone who they should not come across or mess with. When people were causing trouble with her or with her friends, she was there and took care of it immediately. The song is sang by a very famous Punjabi singer, Sidhu Moosewala. Moosewala singing a song about a strong woman is significant since he has such a heavy male following. For him to make a song about a strong, independent woman, teaches his fans that they should respect women the way that he does.
It is easy to think that the singer of this song may not truly care for, or respect women. But, I have a personal experience where I have seen him demonstrate this. In 2019, Moosewala had a concert in Chicago, Illinois. I was at this concert. During the concert, lots of young women were being pushed around and being shoved. Many of us were standing towards the front of the stage but were being pulled back by men. Moosewala stopped the concert midway to see what was going on. He saw that the guys were pushing us back and made an announcement. He said, “I know we are all here to enjoy the concert but stop pushing the ladies. All of the men need to step aside and let the girls come up to the front. Keep our sisters safe, and stop pushing them around”. All of the girls were then allowed to come up to the front and we all cheered and clapped for him since he did something about what was happening. Many artists don’t do anything about things that happen at their concerts. But he took time out to make sure that we were able to enjoy the concert just as much as everyone else.
Tumblr media
Another important aspect of this movie is romance. Usually, in Punjabi movies, the romance is led by male characters. This movie was the exact opposite. The male lead was the shyer, reserved one, compared to Bains, who was straightforward and knew what she wanted. Sonam is known for her roles like this. In another film, Guddiyan Patole, her character was the one who confessed her feelings for the guy.
Both of these films show that women do not have the be the ones to wait around waiting for everything. The main takeaway I had from each of these films was to be strong and do what your heart tells you to do. Even if society tells you it is not the normal, or “feminine” thing to do.
The happy ending in this film was led by Bajwa's character. When I watched this film, I felt a sense of pride. Being represented in a major film by one of the most popular actors felt like a really big step. As a Punjabi American, I felt as if the way we were taught to act in America was finally being spread to the women in Punjab as well. My father always taught me to be strong, independent, and never to be afraid of anything. The main character showed those same qualities. Seeing her act just as my father raised me to act, felt like a full-circle moment. Seeing her play this badass character, made me want to be just as strong. I hope that all of the young women that watched this film felt the same way I did.
I want all of my fellow Punjabi women to know that you are not alone. There are so many of us to help support each other. There are so many examples of strong women that we can look up to.
Sonam Bajwa is breaking all of the stereotypes one by one. As a Punjabi woman in the limelight, it would be hard to do the things she is doing.

Punjabi Party Wear Suits: Celebrate in Style
Punjabi party wear suits are not just garments; they are a celebration of culture, tradition, and vibrant fashion. With their colorful fabrics, intricate embroidery, and flattering silhouettes, these outfits have captured the hearts of fashion enthusiasts worldwide. In this article, we'll delve into the world of Punjabi party wear suits, exploring their traditional elements, popular styles, styling tips, and where to find them.
Traditional Elements of Punjabi Party Wear
Vibrant Colors and Intricate Embroidery
Punjabi party wear suits are known for their bold and vibrant colors, reflecting the lively spirit of Punjabi culture. From vibrant reds and blues to elegant pastels, these suits come in a myriad of hues to suit every preference. Intricate embroidery, including phulkari, gota patti, and zari work, adds a touch of luxury and sophistication to the garments, making them perfect for special occasions.
Rich Fabrics and Textures
Another hallmark of Punjabi party wear suits is the use of rich fabrics and textures. From luxurious silks and chiffons to comfortable cottons and georgettes, these suits offer a diverse range of options for every season and occasion. Textured fabrics like velvet and jacquard add depth and dimension to the outfits, elevating them to a whole new level of elegance.
Tumblr media
Popular Styles of Punjabi Party Wear Suits
Patiala Salwar Kameez
One of the most iconic styles of Punjabi party wear suits is the Patiala salwar kameez. Characterized by its loose-fitting pants gathered at the ankles and a short tunic adorned with intricate embroidery, the Patiala suit exudes effortless charm and grace. It's a timeless choice for weddings, festivals, and other joyous celebrations.
Anarkali Suits
Anarkali suits are another popular choice for Punjabi parties and festivities. Named after the legendary Mughal courtesan Anarkali, these suits feature a long, flowing silhouette with a fitted bodice and flared skirt. Embellished with delicate embroidery, sequins, and beads, Anarkali suits add a touch of regal elegance to any occasion.
Palazzo Suits
For those who prefer a more contemporary look, Palazzo suits offer a stylish alternative. These suits feature wide-legged pants paired with a fitted kurta or tunic, creating a chic and comfortable ensemble. With their fluid lines and modern silhouette, Palazzo suits are perfect for both formal events and casual gatherings.
Choosing the Right Punjabi Party Wear Suit
Body Type and Fit
When selecting a Punjabi party wear suit, it's essential to consider your body type and fit preferences. Opt for silhouettes and styles that flatter your figure and enhance your natural curves. Whether you prefer a fitted silhouette or a more relaxed fit, choose a suit that makes you feel confident and comfortable.
Occasion and Theme
The occasion and theme of the event should also influence your choice of outfit. For traditional celebrations like weddings and religious ceremonies, opt for heavily embellished suits in rich, festive colors. For more casual gatherings, you can choose lighter fabrics and simpler designs to strike the right balance between elegance and comfort.
Tumblr media
Color and Embellishments
The color and embellishments of the suit play a crucial role in defining its overall look and feel. While vibrant hues like red, pink, and orange are popular choices for festive occasions, you can also experiment with pastel shades for a more subtle and sophisticated look. Similarly, choose embellishments that complement the overall aesthetic of the outfit, whether it's delicate embroidery, sequins, or mirror work.
Tips for Styling Punjabi Party Wear Suits
Accessorizing
Accessorizing plays a key role in elevating your Punjabi party wear look. Choose statement jewelry pieces like jhumkas, chokers, and bangles to add sparkle and glamour to your outfit. A matching clutch or potli bag and embellished footwear complete the look, adding the perfect finishing touches to your ensemble.
Hairstyles and Makeup
Your hairstyle and makeup can make or break your Punjabi party wear look. Opt for traditional hairstyles like braids, buns, or loose curls adorned with fresh flowers or jeweled accessories. For makeup, go for a radiant complexion with dewy skin, kohl-rimmed eyes, and bold lips to complement the vibrancy of your outfit.

Embracing Diversity in Hindu Matrimony.
In the rich tapestry of Hindu culture, the concept of marriage holds a significant place. It's not merely a union of two individuals but a merging of families, traditions, and values. In recent times, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of embracing diversity within Hindu matrimony. This shift towards inclusivity reflects the evolving nature of society and the desire to celebrate differences rather than letting them divide us.
Tumblr media
Diversity in Hindu matrimony encompasses various aspects, including regional, linguistic, cultural, and even religious differences. With Hindus residing in different parts of the world, from India to Fiji to the United States, the spectrum of diversity within the community is vast and vibrant. Each region brings its unique customs, rituals, and flavors to the matrimonial landscape, adding depth and richness to the institution of marriage.
One of the most beautiful aspects of embracing diversity in Hindu matrimony is the celebration of different customs and traditions. Whether it's the colorful rituals of a South Indian wedding, the grandeur of a North Indian ceremony, or the simplicity of a Gujarati wedding, each tradition has its charm and significance. Instead of imposing one set of customs as the norm, there is a growing acceptance of diverse practices, allowing couples to honor their roots while forging new traditions together.
Language is another facet of diversity that adds layers of richness to Hindu matrimony. With hundreds of languages spoken across India and among Hindu diaspora communities, language diversity is inevitable. Bilingual or multilingual weddings are becoming increasingly common, with couples incorporating vows and rituals in multiple languages to accommodate both families. This linguistic diversity not only reflects the multicultural fabric of Hindu society but also serves as a bridge connecting people from different backgrounds.
Cultural diversity within Hindu matrimony extends beyond rituals and languages to include food, attire, and music. From the sumptuous delicacies of Punjabi cuisine to the intricate silk sarees of Kanchipuram, every cultural element contributes to the kaleidoscope of experiences in a Hindu wedding. Embracing this diversity means opening up to new flavors, styles, and sounds, thereby enriching the matrimonial journey with shared experiences and mutual appreciation.
In the realm of Hindu matrimony, religious diversity is also a reality that cannot be ignored. While Hinduism is often perceived as a monolithic faith, it encompasses a wide range of beliefs, practices, and sects. Intersectarian marriages, where individuals from different sects of Hinduism come together, are increasingly common. This trend reflects a broader shift towards religious pluralism within Hindu society, where love and respect transcend sectarian boundaries.
Embracing diversity in Hindu matrimony is not without its challenges. Differences in customs, traditions, and beliefs can sometimes lead to misunderstandings or conflicts within families. However, the key lies in open communication, mutual respect, and a willingness to learn and adapt. By fostering an environment of acceptance and inclusivity, couples can navigate these differences with grace and understanding, thereby strengthening their bond and enriching their journey together.
In conclusion, embracing diversity in Hindu matrimony is not just a trend but a reflection of the evolving dynamics of society. It is a celebration of the myriad colors, flavors, and melodies that make up the tapestry of Hindu culture. By embracing diversity, couples can create weddings that are not only beautiful and meaningful but also inclusive and enriching for all involved. As we continue on this journey, let us cherish the diversity that makes Hindu matrimony truly special and embrace the beauty of unity in diversity.

Holi Celebrations around the world in 2024
Tumblr media
The vibrant festival of Holi transcends borders, uniting people worldwide in a kaleidoscope of joyous celebrations. From the bustling streets of India to the tranquil shores of the Caribbean, Holi brings communities together to revel in the spirit of camaraderie and renewal. With splashes of vibrant hues and the infectious energy of drumbeats, Holi captivates hearts and ignites spirits across the globe. Join us as we embark on a journey around the world to witness the magic of Holi, a festival that knows no bounds and celebrates the essence of togetherness.
How many Countries Celebrate Holi? It’s time for the most playful festival of the year! Holi, marking the advent of Spring, is widely celebrated in India and Nepal, and its vibrant colors have now spread to various corners of the globe. Away from their home countries, students studying abroad yearn for the joyous festivities they experience back home. To foster a sense of belonging and promote cultural understanding, universities worldwide partake in celebrating the festival of colors.
Holi in Newyork!
In New York City, individuals from diverse backgrounds unite at various events throughout the city to celebrate Holi, spreading joy and positivity. Participants engage in the tradition of throwing colored powder, often applying it to each other’s faces with consent. To enhance the vibrancy of the colors and capture memorable photos, it is customary to don white attire during the festivities.
One of the most renowned Holi gatherings in the city occurs annually on Governors Island’s Play Lawn. Dubbed the “Happiest Festival of New York,” this event, held every May, features complimentary yoga sessions, captivating Sufi and Punjabi performances, delectable food stalls, and eco-friendly colored powders.
Additionally, Brooklyn commemorates Holi with a yearly spring art and music extravaganza in Bushwick. Showcasing works by local artists and graphic designers, the event also boasts live DJ sets and a spirited color fight featuring traditional Indian powders, adding an extra splash of vibrancy to life in the borough.
Holi in UK!
Hindus settled in the United Kingdom enthusiastically partake in Holi festivities, ensuring they don’t miss out on the excitement. Leicester, renowned for its sizable Indian community, passionately embraces Indian festivals, with Holi being the most cherished. Outside India, Leicester hosts the world’s largest Holi celebrations.
Each year, Holi is commemorated at various parks across the city. Residents unite to witness the lighting of the Holika bonfire on the festival eve. Many in the crowd clutch coconuts, blessed and cracked open to symbolize optimism for new beginnings and a bountiful harvest.
The highlight of the festivities is the colorful revelry. Abbey Park hosts the vibrant color throwing, featuring both a free-for-all zone and a family-friendly area, ensuring enjoyment for participants of all ages.
Throughout the celebration, loved ones exchange hugs and apply tilak—a red mark on the forehead—as a symbol of affection and togetherness.
Holi in Nepal!
In Kathmandu, Nepal, the vibrant festival of colors spans three days, brimming with delight and merriment. Predominantly Hindu, Nepali people celebrate Holi in major urban centers across the nation. The festivities commence with the adornment and burning of wooden poles known as chir, symbolizing the conclusion of the old year. These poles hold significance, representing the tree upon which the deity Krishna is believed to have hung milkmaids’ clothes. Women don red saris, circulate the chirs, and offer prayers.
The second day sees the lighting of bonfires, signifying the demise of the demoness Holika, who perished in flames attempting to harm Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Finally, the third day witnesses the grandest celebrations as throngs of people flood the streets to partake in the colorful revelry. Amidst joyful chaos, vibrant water balloons, paint, and dyed powders are joyously hurled, enveloping the city in an atmosphere of jubilation.
Beyond the colorful spectacle, Holi festivities encompass feasting, dancing, and singing, embodying the spirit of communal joy and renewal.
Holi in Australia! Numerous festivities across Australia mark the celebration of Holi, yet the Melbourne Holi Festival stands out as one of the most authentic and enjoyable gatherings nationwide.
This family-friendly, alcohol-free event offers a vibrant atmosphere filled with continuous music and multicultural performances. Attendees can partake in Bollywood dancing, relish Indian drumming displays, engage in kids’ activities, indulge in diverse cuisines from food vendors, and adorn themselves with intricate henna tattoos.
Organizers ensure an abundance of brightly-colored powders for participants to immerse themselves in the joy of Holi, freely splashing colors on friends and strangers alike. The powders are stain-free and non-toxic, guaranteeing effortless cleanup and safe application on the skin. However, it’s advised against painting individuals not actively partaking in the festivities.
Holi in Singapore! In Singapore, both Indian and non-Indian residents eagerly join in the vibrant Holi celebrations. While the essence of the festival remains the same, Singapore’s festivities distinguish themselves with extravagant events and lively parties, setting them apart from the more localized celebrations in India.
One of the most renowned Holi events in Singapore is “Rang Barsay,” drawing people from all corners of the country. Attendees groove to party tunes spun by DJs and engage in spirited color throwing amidst a backdrop of delectable food, sweets, and cocktails.
Similarly, “Rang De Holi” commands a sizable crowd at Wave House Sentosa, offering an opportunity for networking and revelry. With a DJ spinning infectious beats, attendees indulge in an array of culinary delights and refreshing beverages, adding to the festive fervor of the occasion.
Holi in Spain!
In Madrid, the Festival of Colors is celebrated with immense enthusiasm. Each year, throngs of people clad in white attire gather at Plaza de Agustin de Lara for the festivities. This bustling square transforms into a vibrant hub as hundreds engage in the colorful revelry.
Originally organized by Hindu immigrants, the event now attracts a diverse crowd, predominantly young Spaniards seeking a unique cultural experience and a good time.
Participants purchase pouches of colored powder in a variety of hues, including red, blue, green, yellow, orange, and purple. As the festivities kick off, clouds of powder fill the air, creating picturesque scenes and painting the sky in a mesmerizing array of colors.
In addition to the lively color fights, attendees can groove to the beats of Indian music, popularized by Bollywood films, adding an extra layer of excitement to the celebration.
Holi in Brazil!
São Paulo eagerly embraces the festivities of Holi, eagerly anticipating its arrival each year.
One of the city’s largest Holi celebrations is the Holi Festival of Colors, a vibrant music festival featuring electronic beats, lively dancing, and an exhilarating color battle.
Donning white shirts is customary for attendees, who gather to revel in the camaraderie and groove to the eclectic tunes spun by international DJs. Regular bursts of colorful powder fill the air as participants joyfully toss it at one another.
In addition to the music, festival-goers can engage in a variety of activities such as yoga, meditation, and chanting Hindu mantras, enhancing the overall experience of the celebration.
Holi in Canada!
In Toronto, Holi Dhamaka reigns supreme as the largest Holi celebration. Held at the Preet Palace Banquet, this event promises an unforgettable experience with Bollywood dances, a vibrant color party, and delectable cuisine.
Attendees are encouraged to wear attire they don’t mind staining with colors. The festivities also feature entertainment from a DJ spinning the latest Bollywood dance tracks, along with tantalizing options of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes to tantalize the taste buds.
Holi in Mauritius!
In Mauritius, Holi festivities span two days, bringing vibrant colors and joyous celebrations to the island. Leading up to the festival, markets and religious shops adorn themselves in a kaleidoscope of hues, setting the stage for the upcoming revelry.
The festivities commence with a bonfire on the eve of Holi, mirroring traditions observed in India. The burning of an effigy of Holika, the malevolent demoness, is accompanied by spirited dancing and folk songs, marking the triumph of good over evil.
The following day marks the commencement of colorful revelry, as participants engage in spirited color fights across parks, streets, and beaches. Accompanied by traditional music, musicians serenade the festivities, adding to the joyful atmosphere.
As the day progresses, celebrants partake in dancing, singing traditional songs, visiting family, and exchanging gifts, further enriching the spirit of togetherness and joy that characterizes Holi in Mauritius.
