Nicky worries the twins might forget about him, but every week, they hold a group video chat to catch up, and once, when Nicky’s just had an awful day and can’t seem to keep it together, they don’t immediately hang up because he’s started crying.

Or when Kevin’s kid shows up at there house after getting in an argument with her dad and Andrew lets her rage and rant until it doesn’t seem like the end of the world anymore, then walks her home (hc: they live pretty close for a while cause their on the same team). Or when nobody can get Aaron’s twins to stop crying but as soon as Andrew is given a turn at trying to calm the babies they stop immediately.

The kids all love Andrew he’s the first one they go to with their issues, he’s the first one they run too when all the foxes are together, he’s the first one that they come out too if they’re queer(Nicky is so mad when his kid comes out to Andrew before him)

It’s Aaron who accidentally outs andreil as married

Him and Katelyn had started to make videos, answering medical questions and explaining procedures to help people better understand their health and the heath system. (They also talk about old outdated practices from history just for fun).

They had grown quite popular, and in one video, as Katelyn is being brilliant and explaining some topic or the other, Aaron is sitting beside her, listening intently and nodding along.

And then he takes a sip from his favourite mug. The one that says ‘Okay-est Brother-in-Law’ and has the most unflattering photo of Neil Josten on it.

Twins run in the family.

Aaron and Katelyn get married after graduating from Palmetto, before they go off to med school together. It takes them pretty far from Andrew, but they work to keep in touch.

In the last year of their four year MDs, Kate gets pregnant — A happy accident. Then, they find out they're having twins, just, holy fuck. Kate is determined to not let it slow her down, though, because she's a bad bitch. Then Andrew suggests that they move closer to him and Neil once they graduate.

This leads to a few long and difficult conversations. Andrew admits that he would like to see Aaron more and to have a relationship with his nieces. Aaron admits that he does miss Andrew being close by and that they could use the extra support. In the end, they agree after Andrew actually apologies to Katelyn for the way he treated her in the beginning.

No one regrets the decision. Aaron and Katelyn are beyond grateful for the support as they start their careers. Andrew absolutely adores his nieces, more so than he ever thought he could. Neil is happy because Andrew is happy.

But it isn't always easy. It's hard because they both see it; the girl are what Andrew and Aaron could have been if they were never separated. If Tilda had been capable of being a good mother to her twins. And it fucking hurts.

Somehow, this pain leads to Aaron planting a seed in Andrew's mind — What if Andrew and Neil were to start fostering? Andrew thinks his brother has finally lost it. It's ludicrous, insane, impossible, but– Is it? Helping foster kids could be nice, and it's not like they can't stop if it's too much.

Once Neil has his own separate crisis about it, they decide to go for it. Andrew and Neil sure as hell know how not to raise a kid and they have yet to completely traumatise any of the kids in their lives. So a fuck ton of paperwork and hoop-jumping later, they find themselves in a group home to see if there's a kid there they can help.

That's when they find not one kid, but two. Tucked away in a corner they find twin girls, maybe a year younger than Aaron's girls, who only speak Russian. They hadn't intended to jump in at the deepend like that, but something about them puts Andrew on alert. So they take the girls home with them.

And it is so, so much harder than they had expected. They had only prepped for one kid, but that's easily fixed. It's not so easy to fix the fact that the girls absolutely do not trust them. But Andrew and Neil are persistent; they don't push for trust, but they make sure to prove to the girls that they are safe at every turn.

Slowly, achingly slowly, the girls start to relax. They start to open up. And Andrew realises something so much worse than the pain that got them here.

Andrew realises that his twins are like him and Aaron too, but if Tilda left them both in the system. They are the real life result of his own worst nightmare.

it starts when neil joins the team. sure, things were rough before, but this kid showing up out of nowhere and trying to fix them rubbed salt in the wound. he sees how neil interests andrew, how his brother keeps giving the liar his yeses and his deals and promises. it doesn’t sink in until baltimore, until andrew breaks his deal and chokes out kevin. watching andrew kneel in front of neil (nathaniel), a broken boy made from butchers and glass, that’s when fear starts to claw into his heart. he interrogated neil at the cabin, and the whole time there’s a whisper in his head saying “just how far will andrew go”

aaron watched andrew fight his way into being his own person after a childhood of tragedy upon tragedy. he was there when nicky adopted them, when andrew explored his agency and rebuilt himself from the ground up. and then he watched as andrew found neil and piece by damning piece built his life around him. they’d deny being codependent but there is no more andrew minyard and neil josten there is only andrewandneil.

neil makes a deal with the mafia and aaron wants to scream, shake the man and ask him where his brother fits into all this.

but he knows.

he knows that one day, neil josten won’t be a professional exy player anymore. he knows that the man will grow old and slower, and one day he won’t have a paycheck to send to the moriyamas. they’ll consider him a liability, show up at his home (the one he shares with andrew)

and when neil josten will fall, so will andrew minyard.

Aaron has been trying to get Andrew to stop smoking for years and years to no avail. He complains about it every time he talks to Andrew. If they are around each other, Aaron always comments on how Andrew smells like smoke; he's smoking too much, and the house will have smoke damage even though Andrew never smokes inside. If they are Facetiming and Andrew lights a cigarette, Aaron hangs up. It's a whole thing. Aaron tries everything to get him to stop. He even got Neil to agree to help get Andrew to at least cut back. Nothing works.

Until Aaron calls Andrew and tells him that Katelyn is pregnant, Andrew throws his brand new pack in the trash immediately after they hang up, picks up a pack of gum, and starts sucking on lollipops so frequently Neils thinks Andrews tongue will forever be blue.

By the time the Twins were born, Andrew has not smoked a single cigarette in almost six months. Three weeks after the girls are born, Andrew shows up on his brother's front porch. Aaron doesn't even get to say hello before Andrew pushes past him, the slightest bounce in his step.

“I haven't had a single smoke in six months. Give me a baby.”

Is there a fic out there for Neil (or Katelyn) full on decking or attacking someone cause they mentioned having Aaron and Andrew at the same time. I’ve seen a lot things like “twins would be so hot at the same time” and it makes me feel gross.

With Andrew having the background he has it wa send him into shock for sure. I guess Katelyn wouldn’t know about it but I feel like she would be grossed out and flip out on someone. Idk I just want some angst and protectiveness from Neil or Katelyn,

Some wips I’ve been half assing

I like to think about aftg written from different povs and how you could shift focus to centralizing each of them as a protagonist.

And one of my favorites is the idea of a Katelyn pov version, because that would make Aaron the mysterious bad boy in a semi-generic college romance, and I think that would be hilarious. Like the fact so much of the drama is tied to Andrew wouldn’t even be that odd, because there are more love interests who’s drama ties to a controlling brother than you would think. And Neil and Andrew’s entire relationship would feel like when an author throws in a bland out of the blue gay couple for representation points. Like Neil would just be her boyfriend’s terrible brother’s pushy lacky that Aaron just kind of says he hates that came out of nowhere to push the plot along so she and Aaron can finally get together, and then just watched as Andrew threatened her. Andrew is totally the complicated villain of her romance. Not even sure how much she would even learn about the mafia stuff. Seth’s death could very well have remained an od in her mind, and the Drake situation is drama enough on its own without getting the mafia involved. But I do think if there was a mafia reveal in her pov it would be batshit insane, but also like three degrees removed from her so maybe it wouldn’t be that bad. I do think her romance with Aaron could carry a book though, because I suspect there’s some hidden complexity there.
