National Hot Dog Day
Savor sizzling sausages in a bun with friends and family, experiment with various toppings and see how many you can wolf down on Hot Dog Day.
The sun is out, you’re at the amusement park, and the rollercoaster is filling the air with the clack-clack-clack of wheels on rails. The scent of a thousand different fair foods fill the air, but one stands out above all the rest. It’s rich, it’s savory, it’s the smell of a thousand mysterious meat products put into one delicious sausage casing, broiled up on a flame grill, and sent out on a bun with all the fixings. National Hot Dog Day celebrates this most delicious and tantalizing of treats, and its extensive history!
Learn about National Hot Dog Day
A lot of people are going to have fond memories of eating hot dogs. For some people, this reminds them of some of the fairs and fetes that they used to go to when they were younger. For others, it may remind them of the barbecues that they used to have with their families.
Or, maybe a hot dog is always your go-to snack when you go to a football or basketball game? There is no denying that hot dogs are tasty, yet we can’t eat them every day, as they’re not exactly bursting with nutrients. That’s why National Hot Dog Day is the perfect excuse for you to indulge in this treat.
A hot dog is simply a steamed or grilled sausage sandwich whereby the sausage is typically served within a finger bun, which is partially sliced to fit the sausage inside. The sausage used is a frankfurter or a wiener, which is a Vienna sausage.
Hot dog condiments and preparation vary regionally. For example, some of the typical garnishes include olives, bacon, coleslaw, grated cheese, chili, jalapenos, sauerkraut, onions. Typical condiments include cheese sauce, relish, mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard.
History of National Hot Dog Day
Given the National Hot Dog Day is an international event, where it begins and who sponsors it tends to vary by region. In the USA it’s primarily the industry partners that participate in promoting it, whereas in other countries around the world it may be historical organizations celebrating the role it played in their history.
Did you know that the Frankfurter was named for the Germany city of Frankfurt, where it was said to originate? Well now you do! There’s even multiple varieties of Hot Dogs! The original hot dogs came in a natural casing, which in case you didn’t know were made from the small intestines of sheep. Intestines were regularly used for making all kinds of sausages, hotdogs included!
Then you have skinless hotdogs, in order to hold them together they’re cooked in a cellulose casing that gets taken off when they get packaged. Since cellulose is kosher and cheaper than kosher intestine, this is often how the frankly (heh heh) delicious Kosher Hot Dogs are often made.
National Hot Dog Day is celebrated all over, and if you’ve ever enjoyed a warm hot frank at a summer BBQ, then you’re no doubt celebrating too!
How to Celebrate National Hot Dog Day
The best way is to serve yourself up a great meal with hot dogs! Our personal favorite is the old classic, home-made mac and cheese served with slices of hot dog in it. We also really enjoy hot dogs in our chili, that’s if we don’t have a bun to make a classic chili dog.
Get all your friends together in your backyard and encourage them to bring their favorite frankfurters and condiments. Share stories of your first hot-dog, and all the memories you have around this classic summertime treat. There’s something about a hot dog with the slight char that comes from being grilled that always has us waiting for National Hot Dog Day.
If you really do want to do something a bit different on National Hot Dog Day, why not join a hot dog eating contest? If you think that you are going to be able to eat a lot of hot dogs within a specified period of time, you never know; you could end up being the champion!
However, we better warn you that there are people who enter eating contests for a living, and they train their bodies specifically for the task, so you’re going to be up against some stiff competition. Nevertheless, this can certainly be a fun and unusual thing to do, and you’re going to get to eat some hot dogs in the process, so everyone’s a winner, right?
If you take a look online, you will be able to see any food-eating contests that are going in your area. Of course, you could decide to host your own hot dog eating contest, between friends and family. This will certainly be a fun way to spend the day, and you will have more chance of winning. You could get everyone to pay an ‘entry-fee’ and this could be the prize fund for the winner.
Another way to celebrate National Hot Dog Day is by making your own hot dog creation. Hot dogs are typically served with ketchup, mustard, and onions, depending on your taste.
However, why not have fun experimenting with different toppings, to see what sort of creations you can come up with? There are so many different options, including crumbled gorgonzola, baked beans, grilled pineapple, pickled green beans, caramelized onions, and much more. You don’t know until you try it!
Crispy bacon is another popular one. Or, why not go for something completely unusual and out-of-the-box? You never know, you may be able to come up with the next big thing in hot dogs! If you do, be sure to share a photo on Instagram to get everyone’s mouth drooling!

summary: the antics of tom and his girlfriend on the red carpet somebody teach me how to write a summary.
enjoy!

“Tom! Tom! Over here!” calls a particularly excited journalist. Tom smiles as he heads over, squinting slightly at the blinding flashes of the cameras.
“Hey mate, how’s it going?” he asks politely.
“I’m great, thank you,” beams the journalist. “So tell me, how does it feel to finally be at the No Way Home premiere?”
“It’s such a good feeling man, I can’t even begin to describe it. We’ve all worked so hard on this film and I just can’t wait for everyone to see it.” Tom answers.
“Can you tell us anything new about the film?” asks the journalist.
“All I can say is, bring tissues!” Tom laughs, quirking a brow at the nearest camera.
The journalist looks around as if to scan the rest of the red carpet before asking his next question.
“And where’s the lovely Y/N Y/L/N tonight? She is coming, right? Everyone’s so excited to see her.”
Tom’s eyes light up at the mention of your name and he blushes slightly, one hand reaching up to rub at the back of his neck.
“She’s always running late,” he says, playfully rolling his eyes. “I swear she was late on set every day during filming. Jon Watts started telling her filming started half an hour before it actually did so she wouldn’t miss her first scenes of the day.”
“You’re kidding!” Laughs the journalist.
“I’m serious mate.” Tom laughs along. “But I just got off the phone with her before and she swore she was just down the street-”
Tom cuts himself off as a roar of cheers and screams echoed from the crowds situated at the end of the carpet. He loses his train of thought and can’t hide the grin on his face as he cranes his neck, catching flashes of your red dress through the crowd. You catch his eye and make your way over, smiling and giving the journalist a little wave. Tom rests his hand gently on your lower back, pressing a feather-like kiss on your forehead, his way of saying hello in front of the cameras.
“Didn’t I tell you she’d be here?” he chuckles.
“Y/N, you look gorgeous!” gushes the journalist. “That shade of red looks incredible on you!”
You blush slightly, leaning into Tom’s side. “Oh, thank you so much!” you say. “And the finishing touch of my outfit…” you reach one hand up and hook your hair behind your ear, revealing your earrings, each one a delicate silver spiderweb glinting in the camera flashes.
“I love it. And your purse is uh, an interesting choice…” the journalist trails off, taking in the small glossy Spider-Man themed purse in your left hand.
Tumblr media
“Oh!” you laugh. “Yeah, it’s…unique, shall we say. Really, it’s here to serve a different purpose,” you lean in to whisper conspiratorially, unzipping it and flashing the purse full of multicolored sweets at the camera. “Movie snacks!”
“Damn, which lucky guy gets to sit next to you?” laughs the journalist.
“That would be me,” says Tom smugly, holding you tighter.
“Y/N! Tom!” calls your manager from across the carpet, tapping her watch and gesturing for you two to move on.
Tom keeps his arm around your waist the entire time as you both make your way along the carpet, stopping from time to time to pose for photos and chat with reporters. As you enter the theater, Tom suddenly yanks your wrist, pulling you into a dark corner secluded from the crowds by a giant poster advertising the movie.
“Tom!” you hiss. “What the hell are you doing?”
He stands in front of you, wrapping both arms around you and leaning in.
“Have to say hello to my girlfriend properly,” he says, pressing his soft lips to yours.
You happily kiss him back, running your hands through the curls at the nape of his neck. He hums and deepens the kiss, tongue swiping across your lower lip asking for entrance and you sigh, pulling back.
“My lipstick, Tom,” you giggle.
He rolls his eyes slightly as he rests his forehead against yours, eyes filled with adoration.
“Hello,” he whispers.
“Hello,” you reply, resting your hands on his broad shoulders, simply basking in the moment.
“Tom? Y/N?” calls the slightly stressed voice of Harry. He peeks around the corner and rolls his eyes as he spots you both.
“God, really? I should’ve known you’d be hiding out somewhere sucking on each other’s faces,” he says, comically looking slightly green in the dim light. “They’re gonna start the premiere soon and everyone’s looking for you guys. Are you both decent? Presentable?”
Tom lightly cuffs his brother on the back of his head as he walks past, his other hand reaching behind his back to keep holding your hand. You hang back, knocking your shoulder into Harry’s.
“It’s a hard job you have Baz, keeping this one in line.”
He rolls his eyes yet again, closing the shutter of his camera as you both follow Tom into the theater and take your seats.
“Don’t I know it,” he grumbles, quietly reaching into your purse to steal a handful of jellybeans.

Y'know Nathan Explosion is an unexpected fave character of mine and I dunno if this is a hot take, but I think the reason he's the ONLY one without deep-seated psychological issues due to childhood trauma but is still Like That is because he's autistic. His special interest is metal 🤘

Sausage and Kraut Day
Since November 3 is Sausage and Kraut Day, it’s time to load up on the facts about sauerkraut!
• The word “sauerkraut” has its origins in the German language, translating “sour cabbage.” However, the food itself traces its roots to China, where cooks were pickling cabbage in rice wine as early as 200 B.C. It’s believed that Mongolian ruler Genghis Khan brought sauerkraut west during his invasions that conquered most of Eurasia around the year 1237. Fermented sauerkraut stayed fresh during long journeys.
• Sauerkraut was brought to North America by German immigrants, and became a Pennsylvania Dutch specialty. Because the Pennsylvania Dutch believed the food brought good luck, a tradition was started there, eating sauerkraut on New Year’s Day to bring luck for the upcoming year. It’s first mentioned in American writings in 1776.
• To make sauerkraut, cabbage is finely shredded and layered into stone jars, with salt placed between each layer. The amount of salt is equal to 2% of the cabbage’s weight. It is then tamped down with a wooden masher until the juice rises above the cabbage. If the cabbage is low in juice, water is added to the jar until it reaches the desired depth, with the cabbage fully covered.
• The cabbage is then left to ferment at 60 degrees F for several weeks. The proper temperature is vital for the best quality product and to prevent mold and yeast from growing. As it ferments, acid-forming bacteria flourish and convert the cabbage’s sugars into acetic and lactic acids, which will act as preservatives. Refrigeration isn’t required during fermentation, although sometimes the stone jars must be immersed in a tub of cold water to maintain the temperature. Exposure to heat during the process will kill the bacteria that produce the fermentation.
• In many countries, sauerkraut is more than just cabbage. Poland, Russia, and Ukraine add shredded carrots to the brine, and might also include quartered apples or cranberries. Bell pepper and beets are also added ingredients. German cooks might flavor their sauerkraut with juniper berries or caraway seeds, adding white wine to the mix. In the Netherlands, sauerkraut is known as “zuurkool,” while the French call in “choucroute.”
• Commercial manufacturers can or jar sauerkraut by using heat, and some use vinegar in the fermentation process. Unfortunately, much of the nutritional value is lost once the cabbage is cooked, and raw sauerkraut is a much more nutritious product.
• Sauerkraut is filled with health benefits, including its ability to aid in digestion and increase blood circulation. During fermentation, beneficial probiotics that promote gastrointestinal health are produced. It’s also rich in Vitamins A, C, K, and B complex, along with minerals like iron, manganese, copper, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, as well as being a good source of fiber. It provides an increase in energy and metabolism levels and boosts the immune system.
• However, even with all the healthy benefits, sauerkraut isn’t for everyone. Due to the salty brine, it’s very high in sodium, which can be a dangerous thing for those suffering from cardiovascular and renal diseases.
