AIYCYE Playlist + Explanations *✧・゚
Hello! After the wonderful responses I've gotten on And If You Close Your Eyes, I wanted to assemble this little guide to the playlist I made for it as well. Music is a huge source of inspiration for my fic writing and I love sharing just what it is about each song that fits + the lyrics or fic lines that are relevant.
Obvious warnings for fic spoilers below the cut. The songs are in mostly chronological order and don't yet include chapter 5 songs, because it hasn't been release yet. I'll update this post when it does :)
*✧・゚ Pompeii - Bastille And if you close your eyes, does it almost feel like nothing's changed at all?
The song that titled the fic. It fit due to its overall "oh shit the world is ending" vibes that still maintained a level of upbeat-ness. The highlighted line references Grian traveling from reality to reality and seeing all sorts of different things, but finding the same fundamental truth in all of them.
*✧・゚ Help I'm Alive - Metric
This song is for every single time Grian wakes up in a different reality— it feels akin to having ice cold water dumped on him, or the air knocked out of his lungs. God I love the drums at the beginning of the song so much.
*✧・゚As the World Caves In - Matt Maltese
The impending dread with every new reality. Self explanatory.
.
*✧・゚The Flower Garden - Joe Hisaishi
For the flower field scene :)
*✧・゚All This and Heaven Too - Florence and the Machine And all my stumbling phrases never amounted to anything worth this feeling
This is for Grian and Scar traveling up the mountain and Grian struggling not to admit to himself how desperately in love he is. In the previous iterations, he's never let Scar get this close, but with this being the last time, he's desperate for any and all help, and at the end of his rope. He's understanding how happy he is by Scar's side too late.
*✧・゚ceilings - Lizzy McAlpine But it's not real, and you don't exist, and I can't recall the last time I was kissed
Grian's memories of the world in which he and Scar were married. In that reality, Scar kissed him once on the forehead, after Grian insisted they stay away from each other so he could focus on searching for the elytra.
*✧・゚The Eagles - Howard Shore "And Scar, dancing. His hair had been long then, half braided and tied off with ribbons. It framed his smile perfectly as Grian twirled him around."
Grian remembering his Scar back home. He sees the memory in slow motion. This is is a direct reference to the LOTR scene with Sam and Frodo remembering the shire and Mt. Doom comes down around them: "Rosie Cotton dancin'... she had ribbons in her hair..." That's the kind of desperate love and yearning Grian is feeling.
*✧・゚Rule #2 Moonlight - Fish In a Birdcage All I need is to come home to you All I want is to be close to you
*✧・゚ Agape - Nicholas Britell “I may not be your Grian, but through all this I know that he loves you. Enough to trust you with his name and to break his promises.”
Every quiet confession and moment of vulnerability these two have exchanged is Agape.
*✧・゚The Great Gig in the Sky - Pink Floyd
This song is for Grian remembering the feeling of his wings being ripped out of his body. It's the bridge between himself and Alt!Grian. They are indeed mirror images— where Alt!Grian is the speech about the quiet acceptance of death, our Grian is the melodious wailing. Alt has spent an incredible amount of time planning, rebelling, mutilating himself, and keeping secrets from everyone he loves. Our Grian has lived in willful ignorance, going along with the Watchers' will because he wants nothing more than to go home. Their choices are different, but their pain is the same.
*✧・゚The World We Knew - Frank Sinatra
This is for Grian waking up on a blown-up mountaintop while the Cleanse swirls above him. The beginning of the end.
*✧・゚How Far We've Come - Matchbox 20 "Then, above them, the cavalry arrives."
The beginning of the battle, when everything is almost... joyful. It's the feeling of all of Grian's friends showing up for him in the 11th hour, uncaring that this is how their world ends, committing to spend their last moments to the fullest. It's the love you only find in a group of people you come to love like family, a love of multitudes.
*✧・゚Fix You - Cody Fry Grian hears.
This is for the moment Grian regains control over the elytra, the moment his memories come back, the sounds, the sights, the feelings. It's on here almost exclusively for the 2:26 timestamp but whatever lol.
*✧・゚Light My Love - Greta Van Fleet "Grian takes flight for the first time in two years, and it's absolutely everything."
*✧・゚I Am Satisfied With My Care - Henry Jackman
They're so close to the finish line, so close to their triumphant victory, when something isn't right. Fun fact, Scar knew he was fading right as Grian came to pick him up.
*✧・゚ you are my sunshine - Christina Perri Please don't take my sunshine away
*✧・゚Tessa - Steve Jablonsky
"When I touched the elytra back in the cave, I saw… everything. Every reality I’ve existed in. All at once. And there wasn’t a single one in which I didn’t love you.”
*✧・゚King of the Monsters - Bear McCreary "My name is Grian."
Grian's rage. Grian's grief. Grian's love. What I tried to accomplish with the drawing of this scene and the descriptions was how absolutely bat-shittingly scary Grian becomes. He has nothing left to lose, and he's just pulled out his trump card. Grian understands the full magnitude of what the avians are, what it means to be a torn piece of the fabric of the universe. And he is overwhelmed by sheer power.
*✧・゚Not Strong Enough - boygenius Always an angel, never a god
I imagine this is sort of the "credits" song that plays out chapter 4. It's for Grian teetering between the hubris that made the Watchers what they became and the festering need to rest. Something I wished had been more strongly suggested at the end of the chapter is that this is Grian fully giving up. He's making no effort to do anything else, he just lets his magic overflow until there's nothing left. To put in more casual terms, Grian is submitting to being doomed by the narrative.

I was thinking since Baelor’s birth won’t go… great in fcc, I would like to think his birth and the immediate aftermath goes much better bc of modern medicine and all that for aemyrah’s modern day counterparts. Also I was thinking if hotd was a completely different story and myrah was in the show, I would obviously trust ramin djawadi to give their love story a sickening score. BUT if modern fcc was a show of its own, I’d probably get Nicholas Britell to do the score. I would need the most beautiful, soul crushing music for all their big moments. The moment they realize they love each other, their wedding, and ofc each kid being born 🫶🏽
Agape
“At what age do you think you’ll start balding?”
“I rubbed your huge feet, and you’re asking me that,” Aegon looks at her in disgust.
“My feet are not huge, they are pleasantly plump at the moment. Also I’m thinking around 40. If you live that long of course,” Myrah shrugs.
“Remind me why I agreed to came over here?”
“Because you love me.”
“Or your husband would choke me out otherwise.”
Myrah rolls her eyes as she twist the yarn around her needles. Her mother tells her it is blessing to have a husband and future father as attentive as Aemond. Myrah supposes she’s right; there have been too many horror stories of men being involved then flipping on a dime as soon as a baby comes along. Hell, she has a cautionary tale as a mother in law now.
Aemond managed to put together a schedule that involved Myrah not being alone for too long. Someone always checking in for the past week till he gets back from his business trip later that night.
Aegon came over with beer for him and freshly squeezed mango pineapple juice for her. They shared a big thing of carbonara. He even let her pick what they watched, and Aegon was strict about his television privileges. Now, they are giggling over his Raya options.
“Maybe you should go back to meeting people the old fashion way.”
She feels a pang settled in her lower stomach. It was one of a couple that pulsed throughout her the last hour and a half. Assuming it is indigestion from the pasta, she shifts a bit before continuing to scroll on Aegon’s phone. Not impressed by his options, she hands the phone back.
“You could sent me up with your cousin I met at the wedding. The one with green eyes,” Aegon grins.
“I love her far too much to put her through that. But I do have an great aunt on my dad’s side that would love someone to pay her mortgage in exchange for companionship.”
When Aegon looks like he is actually considering it, Myrah scoffs. “I’m joking, you freak.”
He shrugs. “The women in your family are hot. I’m still waiting for your mom to realize I would make an excellent controversially young second husband.”
Myrah goes to laugh but the pain that was in her abdominal shifted to her back.
“I think I have to pee… or shit.”
Aegon wrinkles his nose, but helps her up off the couch. Myrah barely makes it to the master bathroom and closes the door before she feels a slight snap and liquid gushes down her leg.
No… no. She can’t possibly be having this baby early.
Myrah freezes for a moment, standing there in wet sweatpants. “Aegon…”
Her voice comes out shaky.
“Don’t tell me Aemond wipes for you too,” he calls back from the bedroom. “I love you guys but the codepency is a lot.”
“Aegon, please get in here.”
Dropping the humor and sensing something is wrong, he opens one of the double doors and peaks his head in. He takes one look at her wet pants and the startled look on her face, and frowns.
“Did you pee on yourself.”
She shakes her head no slowly. His already wide eyes get impossibly big.
“So, is that…”
She nods her head. Despite possibly being on the verge of becoming a mother, she’s never felt more young. Like she’s a young girl again, going to her mother to tell her she started her period. Scared of her own body. Aegon come in and swallows hard.
“Ok um maybe I should call my mom or your mom. Fuck, Aemond’s on a plane.”
“No!”
“No,” he repeats confused.
“I’ll call my doula and my midwife,” she begins to walk towards the bathtub. “And take a shower.”
“A shower,” Aegon panics. “Shouldn’t we get you to the hospital?”
No, she cannot have this baby without Aemond. She refuses.
“No, I think it’s ok. He will wait.”
“He will wait?”
“Will you stop repeating me,” she sighs. “And yes, I’m his mother. He will listen to me.”
She rubs her belly. You have to work me here kid.
“Just go get me phone.”
Aegon gives her a skeptical look, eyes trialing the wet floor, before leaving. Myrah tries to blink away tears. It is not even the slow throbbing pain that occurred that scares her, it’s everything after that. Aegon comes back with her phone. With shaky hands, she calls Lynesse, her midwife.
When she first became pregnant, Alicent insisted Myrah go to Alicent’s aunt. Siting that she delivered all of the kids, including Aemond.
“I think we may have a… situation.”
“Her water broke,” Aegon pipes up bruntly.
Myrah explains the pain she’s been having, ignoring Aegon muttering in the background that Aemond will kill him for giving her eggy pasta. Lynesse tells her to take the shower, make sure her bag is ready, and call her if the contractions get worse or closer together.
“And sweetheart, you’ll be ok.”
She will ok. She will ok.
“I think I’m going to do my makeup.”
Aegon gives her an exasperated look. “You will more than likely sweat it off Myrah.”
“Not true. My Urban Decay All-Nighter setting pray is amazing. Now be a dear and go get me some towels to clean this mess.”
Aegon shoos her away as she tries to get on her knees to clean the bathroom floor.
“You know for all of this, you guys should’ve considered naming the ankle bitter after me.”
“I’d rather not. I have a feeling there will be too many Aegons in the world when things are said in done.”
She is confused and slightly perturbed by the naming in their family. There’s homages, and there is whatever the fuck Targaryens like to do. But when in Rome…
When Aegon is done cleaning the mess, Myrah finally gets in the shower. The relaxation of the warm water is cut short with a contraction. Sharp and sizzling throughout her body. She had to grip the tile wall for a moment to catch her breath. Despite the effort that will go in for it, she opts to wash her hair and do a face mask. Knowing it may be the last time she gets to do some self care for a minute.
The pain does not subside but at least she feels a bit more prepared.
“You know we really should text Aemond so when he gets off the plane he knows what is going on.”
Myrah makes eye contact with Aegon in her vanity mirror in the master bedroom. “You know how Aemond is. He will be awful on the road. Best to wait till he gets here to let him know.”
It could a bit for her sake too. Honestly more. For some reason, she’d wants to see Aemond in this space. In their home as just Aemond and Myrah before they become ‘Aemond and Myrah, parents’. Before everything completely changes. The more people she tells, the more real it is. If he can just hold off a little bit longer.
“Help me pick a palette.”
“I highly doubt a newborn will care if your eyeshadow is sparkly enough.”
“Your mommy issues has made you cold, I think.”
Aegon flips her off, but nevertheless picks a palette.
“Oh, we need music,” Myrah claps her hands, gesturing for Aegon to look at her phone on the charger. Aegon is scrolling till he looks up with a smirk.
“Ewwww, you and Aemond have a sex playlist,” Aegon laughs. Myrah throws an eyeliner pencil that he doges.
She turns to look at herself in the mirror.
You can do this Myrah.
Tumblr media
Something Aemond learned quickly about Myrah is that she is not a texter. At least not in the traditional sense. Where someone else would send a ‘Good. How are you?’ in reponse back to a simple question like ‘How are you doing?’, Myrah would much rather send a picture to show she’s doing well.
Or a detailed voice note about how she got free drink from Starbucks, and that’s why her morning is going splendid.
So, when Aemond lands and gets the notifications from Myrah, one selfie of her drinking some sort of bright juice and the other a picture of her and Aegon with ladybug hair-clips in their hair, he assumes everything is alright with her and baby.
It makes him breathe easier. He’d been in a foul mood the whole week. Pissed he even had to travel. Myrah had waved off his reservations.
“I’m the one on maternity leave. It will be over before you know it. Bean and I will be fine.”
It began to set in why some people he works with, men like his father, are always fucking miserable. Putting work before your family is shit.
It is not until gets a phone call from Aegon that anxiety comes back.
“Hey, so how was your flight? Did you get any of those good cookies,” Aegon sounds a bit distant and nervous. “Any hot flight attendants I should know about?”
“Aegon, what’s going on,” sighs Aemond.
“I don’t want you to be upset or scared,” it makes Aemond sit up in his seat. “But… we are at the hospital, Myrah is in labor.”
Aemond feels his stomach lurch into his throat. “What?”
“The midwife said she’s moving along ok. But her contractions started getting worse so we had to come in.”
“Fuck fuck fuck.”
“Don’t freak out,” Aegon raises his voice. “Amal is on the way. So is mom.”
“Tell him that I’m fine. My tarot cards showed good things!”
Aemond hears Myrah’s voice chime up in the background.
“Just get here, man.”
He babbles almost incoherently to the driver, asking him to essentially find a way to go the opposite direction towards the hospital. He can feel himself starting to sweat on the way there. It almost makes him wish he would’ve had time to change out of the suit he was wearing into something more comfortable. He hopes he has time to at the hospital.
He hopes he doesn’t miss the birth of his first child. Aemond might actually commit arson in his office if that’s the case.
Aemond finally gets to the hospital. All but jogging down the hall to the maternal unit of the hospital, bags in hand. He is relived to see that it seems Myrah is still in labor. He walks in to see Aegon sitting in the couch in the large room, Myrah is laid in the bed, a contraption in her mouth till she sees Aemond.
“Pookie bear,” she smiles lazily.
Aemond doesn’t think he’s ever been happier to hear that terribly embarrassing nickname. He drops his bags immediately and crouches down near her.
“Are you ok,” he brushes a hair back from her face.
“They gave her some gas and air. She’s on top of the world,” Aegon laughs. Myrah’s sweet disposition shifts when another contraction comes. Aemond is quite surprised by how strong his wife is by how hard she squeezes his hand.
“I’m never letting you impregnate me again,” Myrah winces.
“That’s ok,” he laughs, kissing her. “You giving me one is enough. I love you.”
“You better.”
Lynesse comes in with a smile. “Ah papa is here. Great, just in time for me to check how far she’s coming along
She puts Myrah in the stirrups, putting on her gloves.
“Oh.”
“Oh,” Aemond questions in a panicked. “What does ‘Oh’ mean.”
“Looks like she’s progressing a lot quicker than I thought she would be,” she grins. “We should be having a baby soon.”
Aemond, in peak curiosity, takes a look himself. He tilts his head to the side trying to imagine a baby coming out.
“Stop staring,” Myrah lifts her head off the pillow.
“Nothing I haven’t seen before.”
Aegon goes to make sure his mom and Amal know the way in.
“Do you think he’ll look more like you or more like me,” Myrah whispers.
Aemond twist his mouth in thought. “Targaryen genes are pretty strong.”
“That would be nice. A tiny Aemond running around,” she smiles tiredly. Her finger gentle traces his face, ending on his nose. “I’m really happy to have a kid with you.”
“Aw labor made you soft,” he jokes. He grabs her hand and kisses it. “Thank you for making me a father.”
Her eyes flutter shut when she feels another contraction.
“Thank me again after he gets here.”
Tumblr media
Baelor Targaryen comes into the world, wailing and red faced.
Myrah was sure part way through the labor that he was never coming out. Hot tears flushed on her face.
“He must’ve inherited the Targaryen big head too.”
People come in and out of the room to see him.
“I think he kind of looks like me,” Aegon cooes which receives pinch in the arm from Aemond.
Alicent and Amal marvel over their first grandchild.
“Your father and Esme will be coming into town soon,” Amal kisses Myrah on the forehead. “You did so good sweet girl. He’s beautiful.”
Between the people, nurses come in to check on him on Myrah.
“I can’t believe we made a human,” Aemond whispers when they are finally alone.
Baelor yawns, wide eyes fluttering. A tuff of dark hair already on his tiny head.
“He’s so perfect. He could be a Gerber baby,” Myrah sighs in agreement. Aemond looks up from Baelor with a perplexed look.
“Hello, they only hire the cutest babies for Gerber commercials.”
“Ah,” Aemond nods.
“I changed my mind,” Myrah runs a finger over her son’s soft cheek. “I’ll let you get me pregnant again.”
Aemond laughs.
“And I’ll give you as many as you let me.”

Note: I've linked StoryGraph summaries of every book to each title.
The Duke Gets Even by Joanna Shupe
There was a lot of reasons The Duke Gets Even worked as well as it did and I can split it between the relatability factor and the hotness factor.
Because it's set in Gilded Age America, the language is definitely more accessible for first-time HR readers. Even content-wise, the heroine, Nellie, becomes a birth control advocate which comes at a... very fitting time for us here in the United States. She also harbors fears of losing herself to a man if she were to get married, all while being in that position where she's the only single in her friend group. Super relatable.
What is less relatable is just how off-the-charts the chemistry between Nellie and the Duke of Lockwood is. We know it's slowly building in the last 3 books but watching it implode is glorious. I don't know if this is a trend but Lockwood seems to written in the mold of the "new" HR hero, similar to MacLean's Duke of Clayborn, where they give and take in equal measure: sexually (in this case, a bit of pain), and perhaps they even give a little more emotionally in the beginning. They respect their heroines in that they have a deep understanding of what makes them tick, but obviously "respect" doesn't mean they aren't willing to get down and dirty. And when they do, it's GREAT.
Also, because of all the water imagery in this book, I'd recommend listening to the Moonlight soundtrack by Nicholas Britel while you read (try The Middle of the World).
Her Husband's Harlot by Grace Callaway
January has been my Grace Callaway month and I was endlessly delighted as I read every HR she's ever published. This was the first book I read by Grace (who is an Asian Canadian author btw), and it's exactly the sort of deranged nonsense I live for: a bit o' rough self-made hero elevated to the aristocracy, a genteel heroine he falls for immediately and marries, but he panics on their wedding night that the d was too big and he was an animal with her, so he goes to slake his lusts at a brothel with a harlot except, well, guess who the "harlot" is. It's great. 10/10 would recommend.
Fiona and the Enigmatic Earl by Grace Callaway
I was reaching the tail-end of my Callaway marathon when I hit this book and wow... I did not expect to be shook further by Grace. Not only did I enjoy the "investigative services for women" plot, but the couple, Fiona and Hawk, had excellent chemistry even as they ostensibly start off as having married out of "convenience".
There's too much to list but here are a few highlights: "oh no I'm too sore so mutual masturbation it is", One of the best carriage blowjob scenes, in part because he's *standing*, he performs a Clayborn (iykyk), there's a Victorian sex toy store, and there is a dungeon(s) in the toy store with an alter on which our heroine is "sacrificed".
What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long
You can read the summary above⬆️ but let me take this opportunity to wax a rhapsodic on what worked for me in this book:
First, it features a hero hellbent on *revenge* for being cucked. Which is great. The *revenge* involves seducing the sister of the man who cucked him. Also great.
Listen... Alexander says some hot shit. And the reason it's hot isn't even because it's the dirtiest stuff; it's because Genevieve takes in his words and internally goes haywire, and any suggestiveness in Alex's words is not lost on her. She's a Knowing virgin, if you will. They're also usually the two smartest people in the room which makes for great dialogue suffused with barely-restrained sexual tension. Alex is also a very real hero, if that makes sense. He makes dumb jokes after having sex. He can't resist trolling his future brother-in-law. His grief is not over-the-top, but a quiet thing, and all the more moving for it.
Side note: @viscountessevie (Sahara), @jeanvanjer (Z), and I did, in fact, debate whether or not Alexander was daddy (the answer is no).
The Legend of Lyon Redmond by Julie Anne Long
The "Love at first sight" trope can easily be written in a trite, boring way, but Julie wrote it brilliantly here. The book alternated between flashbacks and present-day so we got the full picture of Lyon and Olivia's early relationship (in all its, ah, young adult glory. See: below). We also see them as older and fairly jaded and world-weary, which makes their reunion all the more moving and romantic (and hot. very hot).
It was an emotional book overall, and Z and I found ourselves crying for unexpected characters, to say the least.
Tumblr media
The Counterfeit Scoundrel by Lorraine Heath (Releases on Feb 21st)
For the full (funny) story on how I got an early copy, see here.
This was very much a *thinking* book. Ever since I started writing as certain dark things are to be loved almost two years ago, I've always been on the look out for books that basically show that fight for women's rights neither began nor ended with suffrage. I appreciate this book because it delves into how much more difficult it was for women to be granted a divorce historically, and gives a fictionalized take on the lengths women might be willing to go to in order to get a divorce. Make no mistake, Blackwood and Daisy's relationship is very very romantic, but I think by the time I finished, I felt like the history was the main draw for me.
A Daring Pursuit by Kate Bateman
The classic familial enemies-to-lovers book. Also, it's very rare to see HR set in Wales, which I did appreciate. Anyway, "enemies" Carys (a proper Welsh name, according to Rhys Winterborne) and Tristan decide to have an affair so Carys can see what she's missing out on in the marriage bed. As it turns out, A Lot despite her thinking otherwise because of a bad first time. Obviously this gives our hero a chance to be all "he didn't do this for you??" It's all very fire-and-ice until they find themselves in over their heads with all their Feelings, especially Carys.
There is a very primal sex scene post bear-chase, and if that doesn't compel you to read this book, I don't know what will.

i think to myself idk i guess ive never had any really long term intense hyperfixations that are consistent over a period longer than 5 years 🤔 buuuuut
(rambling below cut)
but then i remember that one of the first songs i ever bought off itunes EVER was a movie score i really liked (“Define Dancing” off of the WALL-E score) and my first music streaming experience was me training my Pandora stations to play me movie soundtracks and i asked for movie score CDs for christmas and i would ask my dad to buy me piano music sheets for my favorite scores (i learned the fuck out of “The Imperial March” thank you) and the vast majority of my YouTube usage at age like, 13, was me playing the Inception soundtrack and Two Steps from Hell and Audiomachine and searching up “trailer music” obsessively (tsfh was always a favorite but zach hemsey you will ALWAYS be my fucking BOY). and i told people my favorite music artist was Hans Zimmer and watched the Oscars every year to root for my favorites but paid special attention to best original score (i’m SORRYYYYY trent and atticus the social network score is literally so sexy and your brains are so fucking big but inception should have won i know my opinion is wrong but ive held this belief since 2010) and i downloaded the Pacific Rim score illegally piece by piece on Tumblr and made my blog autoplay in 2014 the Forrest Gump main title suite and made playlists specifically of instrumental music to fall asleep to and tried to memorize all the major music scorers of the modern day and collected 8tracks playlists of especially good instrumental / score mixes i liked and got into some specific video games specifically because i liked their soundtracks
and like a solid third of my 5,350-song long liked songs list on spotify is soundtrack and i listen to so so so much of it while driving and working and writing and i buy CDs and vinyl records of scores i like so i can listen to them more
amnyways…. i guess ive been obsessive about it for so long that i kind of forgot it was unusual for people to be focused on movie scores but just today i was listening to natalie holt’s “Purpose is Glorious” from the loki series finale and i was like damn girl is absolutely bringing out those nicholas britell trumpets from if beale street could talk (a movie i have never seen before but have listened to the soundtrack of over and over again) !! and i thought “huh i wonder if she and nick talked because she was scoring obi-wan kenobi presumably at the same time he was scoring andor. bc the trumpet sounds are so close no way it’s a coincidence!”
and then i remembered NO NORMAL PERSON would EVER have that thought process because having all that knowledge just stored away is not useful in the least i am just a FREAK!!!! an extremely knowledgable one but a weirdo nonetheless
i love it though because i get to say shit like “disasterpeace literally changed the game with it follows because like it follows was so good those synths n shit just transcended genres from horror to drama with daniel lopatin’s score for uncut gems to historical biopic with ludwig goransson’s work for oppenheimer. like oppy straight up is using the SAME ass SYNTHS” and you just have to smile and nod because what am i even talking about ‼️
long story short yeah i keep forgetting i do have a long term intense consistent hyperfixation and it’s called “film, television, and video game scores”

Movie scores you say? What are your favs?
Lizard!!
WELL, aside from sw, some of my favorites just off the top of my head are Pride and Prejudice, Parasite, The Imitation Game, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, and Endgame
I'm obsessed with anything Nicholas Britell does. Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk, Succession....all of it. Everything Ludwig Goransson puts out is a masterpiece, and what Natalie Holt did with the music in Loki blew me away. Ennio Morricone, Carter Burwell, Hans Zimmer, Ramin Djawadi, and Philip Glass are some more composers I really enjoy
Idk with movie scores I tend to zone in on one or two songs rather than the score as a whole. Like when I first watched In the Mood for Love recently, I couldn't stop thinking about Yumeji's theme for days. I've only seen Requiem for a Dream once, but Lux Aeterna still haunts me to this day (but I love it). I'm just going to put this here....for shits and giggles

Theme;; Bandersnatched- Danny Elfman || I chose this because I liked the royal/medieval vibe at the beginning because it related back to Isadora and Adelise’s roots. When the song switches from violent to softer, I imagine that as Juliet sort of coming into the picture, and that little tune fits her perfectly because its soft but mystical. And then it gets like violent again bc these bitches ready to fight.
Isadora;; In The Hall of The Mountain King- Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross || Reasoning: It’s a classic, ballet tune with a sinister, ready-to-fight twist and I mean come on, that’s Isa.
Adelise;; The Darklands- Daniel Pemberton || LISTEN TO HOW IT STARTS, IT COULD SO EASILY BE A ROCK SONG AND THAT SCEAMING NOISE THING, TELL ME THATS NOT ADI + PLUS IT SOUNDS SORT OF ROYAL-Y
Juliet;; Astral Doom- Michael Giacchino || The track is like mystical and also sort of scary but also incredibly pretty and thats just Juliet, plain as day
War Song;; The Devil and The Daughter- Daniel Pemberton || It’s royally, it’s dark, it’s agressive and it’s how these bitches are coming out to play, like Vanessa thinks she’s great but like these bitches are fucking duchesses and they had public execution and they just brought another bad ass in, lets fucking go
II. T H E  V A U S E E N S
Theme;; The Beast- Jóhann Jóhannsson || Is this whole group not the literal beast of the world? And plus it sounds sort of like a siren, like one you hear in the tornado warnings, and these fucking babes better come with a warning
Vanessa;; The Red Caps Are Coming- Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL || You know in the old time-y movies where the villain has the big sinister piano music? Yeah, this the modern equivalent. And Vanessa is the old time, sophisticated, classical-music listening, villainous mastermind.
Ella;; Redemption at The Roulette Table- Nicholas Britell || It’s softly sinister in a way you just can’t put your finger on. And that’s Ella. Without knowledge of Vanessa, she seems like a nice girl but something is just... off.
Viktorya;; Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy (Trap Remix)- Tchaikovsky || Come on, I had to. Viktorya is a russian little immortal stuck in a 13 year old body, and in some ways, mind. So like, this is her roots and also the pre-teen in her.
War Song;; Terminator Salvation Theme- Danny Elfman || Soft and sinister. Seems to be there thing, right?
III. T H E  G R A N T S
Theme;; One Bullet is All I Need- Steven Price || It has the fast pace cello (i think) underneath it and yet that higher mystical tone which is fitting considering two people o  this team have powers. It also sounds vaguely sad, like a fighting for your life thing, and we all know these are the ones who can die the most easily.
Sarafine;; Maximum Effort- Junkie XL || Honestly, it sort of reminds me of a hip hop song or a disco song and that’s just so Sara
Andrea;; Ge Get Em- James Newton Howard || Andrea is going into this fight without powers or immortality, prob just a wooden bullet gun and a stake cross bow and she’s just here to kick some ass without any fear or reservations, i fucking love this girl.
Alexandria:; Are We Having a Party?- Cliff Martinez || This might be the only one I chose more for the title than the song bc oh my god, you know Alexandria has not been here the whole time, she’s been scoffing at all this shit until it actually comes down to fight and then shes like sigh i have to go help. And so this bitch rolls up late in a fucking rolls royce, white tennis outfit, and hair all pulled back and she steps out and prob literally says “Are We Having A Party?” and Andrea looks at her like “the fuck are you doing? this is dumb, you’re going to get kill” and then we find out alexandria has ice powers, wow that was long
War Song;; Shoot Anything That Moves- Atli Ovarsson || These girls are working on nothing except what they’ve seen in action movies so it’s fitting that they have an action movie song. Plus they’re all working with shooting: fireballs, stakes and icicles
IV. T H E  F I N A L  F I G H T
End Credits- Junkie XL || JUST LISTEN AND YOU’LL KNOW WHY
V. A N D  T H E  W I N N E R I S...
Can You See Jane?- Patrick Doyle || Soft and hopeful and sad and sweet... perfect for this. there’s so much triumph for the winner but hey, we all know people died, most likely including people they loved.

2016 End of Year Movie Review
A note regarding this review of 2016 I have not seen the following movies: 20th Century Women Elle Florence Foster Jenkins Into the Forest Kubo and the Two Strings Loving Miss Sloan Sing Street Swiss Army Man
2016 was an interesting year of ups and downs. The number of really bad movies seems down from previous years, but so does the number of really good movies.
Looking at the downside first, look no further than the typical powerhouse players, George Clooney and Ben Affleck. Both had a disappointing year, despite movies that looked promising. Clooney’s movies had the right players, but they fell short of expectations. The Coen Brothers comedy Hail, Caesar! had funny moments but it also had too many inside jokes to get over, and despite the great chemistry of Clooney and Julia Roberts, Money Monster felt too preachy instead of focusing on being a good suspense thriller. As for Affleck, his role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be remembered as the fourth(?) best Batman. The Accountant will probably not be remembered at all, as it is even more generic action than Jack Reacher. And let’s hope for Affleck’s sake, everyone forgets Live By Night. I was wondering why the trailers said “from the director of The Town”; after watching the movie, I understood. As bad as Clooney and Affleck’s movies were, they looked like Casablanca compared to the shit-fest that was Passengers. Seriously, fuck that movie.
As for the good, Felicity Jones. This was an awesome year for her. She played the awesome, bad ass lead of the new Star Wars supplementary film. She was also Mum in the beautiful, tear jerker, A Monster Calls. She showed massive range this year by going full-blown warrior to loving (yet also dying) single mother. I’m glad she’s getting to show off how good she really is. This year was also a great year for diversity. Fences, Hidden Figures, Lion, and Moonlight all showed the struggles of lives of non-straight-white-male people. As a mathematician, I especially love Hidden Figures because it is an inspiration to everyone who wants to go into a STEM field. I wish more movies would be made to showcase people of all races and genders in STEM fields because we truly do need the best of everyone to make this world great. Movies like Hidden Figures show how important our work truly is. For those who don’t like diversity, don’t worry, we also got the wonderful La La Land for us white, white people, which has, without a doubt, the best opening sequence of all time. Also, for the most part, horror movies really stepped it up this year. With the exception of Blair Witch, horror showed how good it could be in The Neon Demon, Don’t Breathe, Nocturnal Animals, 10 Cloverfield Lane, The Conjuring 2, and Green Room. Finally, I want to shout out to Denis Villeneuve, director of Arrival. He paired with Jóhann Jóhannsson to do the score for his best picture nominated film and struck gold again (they worked together in 2015′s intense thriller, Sicario).
Now, here is my list of best and worst of 2016.
WORST OF 2016 1. Blair Witch 2. The Choice 3. Passengers 4. Live By Night
Passengers looked like it should have been the best movie of all time. Two of my favorite actors, both of whom have amazing charisma and on-screen presence, Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, end up having no chemistry together. Combine that with an awful story and Passengers is one of the biggest film disappointments in history. Seriously, how hard was it to make The Shining plus Sunshine? Martin Sheen tried his best to give me the twisted movie I so wanted. Instead, the movie ended up being a snore-fest with questionable moral values.
DISHONORARY MENTION: Dirty Grandpa, The Girl on the Train, Independence Day: Resurgence, Money Monster, Morgan, and Nerve
