Favourite(ish) 2023 Artworks

New year, and I forget to post art here all the time, so I'll just do some favourite pieces that I did throughout 2023. Some might be reposted, I forget what I post here. XD

It's mostly just CotC.

Favourites of January

Vietnamese Year of the Cat, and the Chinese Year of the Rabbit with Tiziano and "Little Bunny" Pierro.

Spent the early point in the month working on the CotC Chibi Project! Hopefully I get a lot done this year too!

Cat Day art with Elletrix and Leon!

Valentines ladies!! I did a countdown to the day, and these were some of my favourites! L'eeto, Erika, Iris, and Elletrix!

To complement the Valentines drawings, I did a White Day Countdown as well! I drew the partner that I ship them with. I hope to draw the outfits and ships again for Valentines Day or White Day... maybe both? Anyway, that's Barrad, Leon, and Tiziano!

4th Anniversary drawing of CotC's demo! Hard to believe that 2024 is the 5th Anniversary! Better go all out on that one later! Happy Anniversary to Sofiano!

5th Anniversary Countdown and the artwork for it too! I wanted to celebrate with Kit Crossford! One of my favourite NPCs!

July was Art Fight month too, so most of my drawings this month were attacks!

My last drawing for Art Fight was an attack on my best friend Cinna! I drew their OC Lucifer.

Favourites of September

Project Path Action hosted a Weekly Drawing prompt, so I drew Elletrix for Week 3 which was about favourite Guardians of the Light! Love her so much!!

Favourites of October

Seed Story's 1st Anniversary art! I drew all the know Sage Caits! I am happy that they are able to playable now!

Collab for Cinna for the 3rd Anniversary, I still look at this and say, "We did that???" So much fun to draw all of them! And Cinna did AMAZING with the ring forms.

After drawing Saint Sazantos in the anniversary drawing, I really wanted to try drawing him normally. So I did that for the PPA Weekly Prompts, was fun!

Huevember!! Aaa I had so much fun with 2023 Huevember! Here's to 2024!

Favourites of December

My second choice for the PPA Free Week! I love Leon a lot!! Needed an excuse to draw him with the spear that I now headcanon his. (It's the Grandport spear!!) He matched perfectly with the earlier one of Elletrix! They are married!!

Team Asano Secret Santa entry! Was fun to draw this scenario!

Holidays in Grandport would be so lively, so dressing the Elves up as... well elves was fun! And of course incorporating the lord of Grandport with her husband was also much needed! I love Grandport a lot!!

I wanted to draw a 1 Year Anniversary drawing for Erika/Elle's CotC implementation! She was one of the most excitable reveals they've done in a presentation! At this rate, nobody's going to top her reveal unless it's Oskha or Tiziano.

september ↳ most popular | favourite only made these two sets in september, the only reason why I opened photoshop was because of the news about coups’ tattoo, which inspired that gfx ahah

october ↳ most popular | favourite quite a successful month for my content, as it received so much love. I probably never got so many notes on a single post and I’m happy it’s a coups one ahah also tried a new style for that jeonghan gfx and I’m quite happy with the result!

november ↳ most popular my most popular and my favourite creation from last month. I usually only make gifs for coups and dokyeom, so it’s nice to make stuff for other members too sometimes. maybe I should do it more often ahah

december ↳ most popular | favourite sometimes I’m scared to post gifset like that because people can be... scary in the tags ahah but still, I’m happy it got a lot of love. as for the favourite, I haven’t made a gfx in like two months so I’m happy with the results ahah (it also reminded me how posting a gfx feels on this site...)

Summary 2023

Much to my surprise, this year was not as bad as I thought. Every month, even in November, when I had a bit of a creative breakdown, I found at least one piece of art that I could call successful or that I was proud of! As you can see, CotL drawings dominated, so much so that at one point I even thought that maybe my break from SATIM had lasted over a year - but no. Nevertheless... mainly Lamb, Cats, Frogs and most of all: the bugs pair were what kept me creating (and sane).

First things first. I will present now all the artworks and why I consider them my favourites.

January - There is no doubt in my mind that the last page of the Brotherhood comic is what I am the most proud of. One: that I finished the comic and it turned out great. Two: that it's a really visually nice page (I like the tiny animal skulls on the sides of Lamb).

February - this month I mainly created answers to questions on tumblr, but I am most proud of this work. We (all three of us: me, my husband and our child) love making pictures with ironing beads.

March - I had a dilemma here. Also a lot of questions on tumblr, human versions of CotL animals, but what I liked the most - was drawing character from my original novel Empire of the Sun and Moon (which I'm still writing) while trying out metallic markers. But I also really liked the art-trade I had with DarkTentacles0666. I had a free hand as to what would be on it. I like having a free hand.

April - Lots of answers to questions again, but also a birthday sketch for the second chapter of BATIM. But my favourite is the last SATIM strip before the break - 'cause it's just adorable.

May - This month I discovered the existence of a new wonderful game with a new wonderful villain, i.e. Billie Bust Up. The drawing you see here has not been published anywhere - a sketch of its piece was only posted on Tumblr. But I like it anyway. I literally didn't post anything on deviantArt this month.

June - I also had a dilemma here, 'cause there was a lot of creating. First of all - drawings for Pride Month. But also a birthday drawing (very belated) for DarkTentacles. However, my favourite is this shot of the answer to the Tumblr question. Heket, my love <3

July - Our holiday trip. I drew mainly on sand and I consider this drawing to be the most successful.

August - This is the beginning of my Ink Demonth pictures - but before that there was CotL birthday week. And of all the birthday pictures - I'm so damn proud of Shrumy (Greed). As a character, I don't particularly like him. But he's brilliantly to be drawn for me.

September - Lots and lots of drawings from Ink Demonth. I had trouble choosing my favourites - but in the end I chose these two: a crossover with Samurai Jack and The Addams Family. I love both of these universes and I consider these two arts to be among the most successful.

October - After Ink Demonth, a little drawing burnout again, but two works that I really liked: a Halloween sketch and a moving gif for Friday the 13th. In the end, the gif won because it's a cat. Overall, this month I wrote more than I drew.

November - The least art-fertile month of this year. Neither drawing nor writing. Until I got new markers at work - and I drew the first picture in almost a month. Ta-dah. Not very good, but it was funny, so I like it.

December - I only drew 2 pictures this month (mainly because I caught Covid and literally spent half the month sleeping, the other half I was trying to clean my place), but I'm undoubtedly proud of the announcement of SATIM's return.

It turned out really well and I even feel a little excited about the comeback, but we'll see how it turns out.

Welcome to the end of another year. This was kind of a weird one, because I found a lot of stuff didn't hit deviantart as soon as they were done. Things either never made it here, or sat around and eventually got posted in art-dump uploads. So I'm not 100% sure these match the month they're in, but I think they're accurate. As an overview, we can see a lot of the same style. What's odd, is when I was sifting through the months for images I noticed that it's not that I rarely did anything more detailed, but that when I did I clearly got inspired and did multiple pieces in the same month, so despite the quantity, very few got into the year in review. With all that said, let's get to the individual pieces.

January: A fitting start. I really thought I drew this later in the year. I like the poses and proportions I pushed out here. I feel like this one was pretty fast and done on a whim. Which is really most of my art.

February: This was timely. February was when I started running Rime of the Frostmaiden using Dungeon World. These are my player's characters, and i love them all. In classic rpg fashion, no one has opinions about what their characters look like until you draw them. Only then do they say, 'hmmm, nah, they're blonde actually' or whatever.

March: I also played a lot of Monster of the Week this year. While the Rime of the Frostmaiden game ran about 10 months, just finishing up in December, the Monster of the Week was much more episodic, and kind of just petered out after a few months. Anyway, this was one of the one-off characters I made who I adore. They met a cat.

April: More roleplaying games... It's also one of the group upload images. The featured image was character art for a West Marches style DnD game being broadcasted on twitch. This friend dies pretty fast. but I liked her a lot. If you click through you'll see fanart for the same game, and a monster I drew while gming monster hearts for the same session.

May: I love this pic! This was made to be a dramatic review of a monster in a different (yes a fourth) game, which this time I was running. The character was going to be a players new pc, that I wanted to reveal as this rad monster and see how everyone reacted, not knowing they were going to join. The result was less interesting than I hoped, but I still love this picture. Worth noting is that this one was competing with a very similarly drawn picture I drew for my brother's birthday. So check that one out too maybe?

June: It's father's day! I have already forgotten what else I drew this month that it went up against to get on this list. Looks like some very similarly drawn art (including more rpg characters) but it's nice using a drawing for my dad. I love my dad.

July: And here we see one of my month long challenges. I love doing these. I don't remember where this idea came from, but I'm so used to drawing characters I wanted to try little towns, like you might see as stylized impressions of them on a map that's not trying to be realistic. I dunno if that means anyone to anyone, but I know what I mean, and it was actually a very well received series. The featured image was my favourite one.

August: More DnD! This was actually my second character in the afore mentioned West Marches game. I did do some full body drawing of her, but when it came time to make a token, I just fell in love with this headshot I somehow came up with. The full image includes some more monsters for my own games (a sea hag, their child, a homunculus, and a creature made from a bunch of homunculi glomming together). The last image is another enemy monster that I sketched out mid session while running Monster of the Week.

September: It's my girlfriend! Not, the most accurate depiction, but I do like this drawing. I got her a skirt like the one she's wearing in the picture, for her birthday. Which is unfortunately cut off in the review image.

October: I don't really know why I used this image for October. I guess I just didn't want every picture to have the same art style given the opportunity, but october would definitely be better represented by the daily art series I did during it, which was all original monsters with no prompts. it was super fun.

November: For some reason I suddenly decided wild boars are cool and I needed a wild boar fursona. Because I have a lot of art friends, I sometimes feel like a should have, like, a definitive fursona, but, I just don't? Like animals are cool, and drawing yourself as an animal as rad. but none are like.. me. I guess? I dunno.

December: And then the next month I draw this! Heck yeah! Maybe I was just a fish the whole time and I never considered it! So yeah, I participated in an art secret santa this year, and the only thing I really had to go on was the recipient's favourite colours. As I sketched out this drawing and got inspired by a the idea of a mer-person with faux-facial hair modeled off of a lionfish, I just poured myself into it. I adore this drawing.

Drawing Daily in 2018!

Hi, it’s me - Eliza! I decided to draw everyday for 2018 and posted the process in instagram. Each month I did a drawing challenge and each month I tried out a new medium.

January

Creatuary: Mythical Creatures. I was lowkey doing the Creatuanary challenge created by dibujantenocturno, joshuacairos_art, and rafater_official. What’s fun about Creatuanary was that they tell you what the prompt for the day only so you can’t really pre-plan and just have to do things on the spot. I think it’s a really fun exercise. The medium I used for this month was the Zig Brushable Markers. They’re for calligraphy but I like doing art with them, they’re super nice. I highly recommend them to anyone. They’re kind of my go to markers. Though, I haven’t actually experimented with TomBows or the Prismacolors or Copics at all so I’d take what I say with a grain of salt.

February

Faebruary: Fairies! There’s also FaerieFeb hosted by archibald.art and maxineart. This was super fun. This was one of my favourite challenges. I don’t know if it was the medium I used or the subject matter - probably a combination of both! I used watercolours - a Palette of Prang - and I really enjoyed it. I hadn’t used watercolours since I was in high school and I remember not exactly enjoying the experience overall but within three days of painting fairies I’ve gone aboard the watercolour boat and I don’t wanna get down!

March

March of Robots: Robots! Created by chocolatesoop - MoR is super bomb. I used Stabilo Boss Highlighters for this month and my big take is HIGHLIGHTERS DO NOT SCAN WELL. Or at all. Also, I hear they fade. So, it’s not really a medium that has ‘archival quality’. However, it was super fun. I love using bright obnoxious colours. Everything just pops! Also! They give away brand spankin’ new wacom tablets to five lucky participants regardless of skill level! I highly recommend anyone join this!

April

AstroApril: Constellations and planets! I couldn’t really find a monthly drawing challenge I wanted to do this month so I decided to make my own with AstroApril! I love the stars and galaxy art is always great so I figured why not? And - I decided to use coloured pencils - I got a pack of Prismacolors. Two things - one Prismacolors are the best coloured pencils I have ever used ( I’ve only used student quality sets thus far so I might not have the best grasp of the best coloured pencil sets) - they blend well and are so so creamy it’s such a dream! Two - I don’t recommend using coloured pencils when doing galaxy art. It was fun sure - and I have a deep relationship with coloured pencils now that I have never had before but in terms of efficiency, specially with the subject matter - I highly discourage it. It took me a very long time to create each piece. I guess that’s just the way things are with coloured pencil but you can get the galaxy effect very easily with paints.

May

MerMay: Mermaids! Created by tombancroft1 - mermaids were fun! You gotta play with fluidity and it was a fun challenge trying to figure out which pose to do. I also considering it was May - Star Wars Month - enjoyed drawing star wars characters as mermaids. I used gouache for this and wow is gouache great! If you’ve never used gouache before, just imagine what would happen if acrylics and watercolours had a baby. I used a reeves set that was gifted to me. And considering its a student quality kit, it gave me a very nice taste of what could be accomplished with gouache. I’m highly considering investing in a more heftier set of gouache.

June

Journey June: the hero’s journey in art challenge form! This was great because it introduced me to a lot of cool new things like Creative Twitch Streams and the process of conceiving a story. Better yet! It introduced me to cloverkin and galvosaur the pair who created Journey June. They’re super cool hoomans and I recommend you drop by their stream. Also! I made a story! It’s about a hornless unicorn and he goes on an adventure to try and get a horn. I used mechanical pencils with coloured lead to draw my illustrations. They weren’t the greatest to work with considering the lead broke easily. I’d probably use actual pencils for this next time.

July

Julycanthropy: Werewolves! On the high of making a story from Journey June, I thought it would be fun to do another one for Julycanthropy. I used black paper and white charcoal/white coloured pencil for this. White charcoal is more vibrant against the black but white coloured pencil doesn’t smudge. It was a fun challenge to think in reverse and only colour the highlights instead of the shadows.

August

Smaugust - This is probably my least favourite drawing challenge I did this year. I used pentel oil pastels which I liked well enough but I just don’t think dragons are my thing. Also, I wished my country sold oil pastels per piece. My white oil pastel is very very smol.

September

Sketchtember: Sketches all month long! I sketched out hoomans! I’ve always wanted to draw humans but I’ve always been somewhat intimidated. I’m not so sure why anymore, they’re fun! I’m a little bit addicted. I used graphite and this little pilot lead holder - very fun, highly recommend.

October

Inktober: Inks all month long! Does Inktober really need an intro? Made by jakeparker - it’s just all about practicing your inking skills for the month. I drew more humans for inktober - this time with pet familiars! I used faber castell ecco-pigment and I used this fancy bristol paper. This was amazing. A pair made in heaven. I think I’d like to use maybe a brush pen next time to cover up larger areas but all in all no regrets!

November

Huevember: Colours all month long! I used Stabilo Chalk Pastels on Pastel paper! I decided to do the greek gods and goddesses and zodiac women. I’m not sure pastels are my forte to be honest. They’re fun but I guess they’re just not my thing. I really like the pastel paper though. They’re a bit pricy so I shouldn’t really be so surprised at how well they held onto the chalk pastels. However, because the pastel paper I decided to use was multi-coloured it was really difficult to tell the colour gradient between each piece. Kinda ruins the Huevember effect - Still a fun learning experience over all though!

December

Drawcember: Free Draw! There’s no particular prompt list for this monthly challenge it’s just free draw - which is a lot harder is some ways so I decided to make my own list again. I was inspired by the theme of demons and angels. I thought because of the free draw nature of the challenge, to use mixed media. This was very difficult for me. I ended up just doing portions of ink and portions of paint separately but ideally I wanted a more happy marriage of the two. I definitely need more practice in mixing the different mediums. But on the flipside - I was definitely pleased I was painting again. I enjoy painting a lot. Though - skin tones - very difficult to get right. It wasn’t too bad when I was painting demon skin or angel skin - but human skin has a lot going on.

General Thoughts

I honestly can’t believe I managed to do 365+ drawings throughout the whole year. It was both easier and harder than I thought it would be. You have good days and bad. I think for anyone planning to attempt this, take advantage of your good days - pop as much drawings as you can out and go easy on yourself during your bad days - you can always always catch up. Sometimes you just need a little break and that’s okay.

I learned a lot, made a lot of pals, and I’m definitely looking forward to next year.

Acid on me like the rain (the horrors of war)

Jacob has always been fascinated by wolves.

Fast, strong, agile.

When he was a child, so small and so weak, he used to sneak into the zoo just to watch the wolves.

Majestic, powerful, protectors.

He became one, the very second he ripped Miller's flesh from his broken bones. Alpha kills pup.

Wolves are strong, winners of evolution. They are supposed to lead.

march 1971

Jacob Seed is born on a cold day, the heater inside the small house warms him and his mother.

It is still early, around 10 in the morning.

His father prays a Lord's prayer.

The radio quietly plays Just My Imagination by The Temptations.

Soon, a few weeks later, he grows the red hair of his grandfather.

Jacob doesn't cry a lot in the following months. He is a quiet infant and an even more quiet child, that is easily satisfied.

The old lady that lives next to them buys him a small plush dog the day he is born. She'll die when Jacob is 3 years old.

He wouldn't touch it any more then.

march 1975

He just turned 4. It's his birthday.

He crashed the wooden toy his parents bought him.

No matter how often he tries to explain to his father, that it was an accident – he'll get hit.

It's the first time Jacob's body experiences his father's hard slaps, his belt.

july 1982

If he doesn't follow, he'll get hit.

It's as easy as it sounds. He's used to it.

There's nothing else at home for him, that's his only purpose.

Yesterday he took it for Joseph. Jacob screamed at him later for provoking their father, his back bleeding.

He is so sorry, but he can't communicate it.

This will happen to them frequently the next nine years.

Tomorrow, his back will meet one of the kitchen chairs.

Tearing the scabbed skin apart once again.

december 1988

He feels relief falling off his shoulders, as he pushes Old Man Seed down the stairs.

Jacob looks on his dead body and takes a deep breath.

The man that had him drop out of school.

The man that had strangled his mother minutes ago.

He feels good. Strong, for the first time.

Joseph smiles.

John screams, but Jacob doesn't hear it.

Together, they'll overcome anything, Jacob thinks.

june 1989

He loves to see their farm burn down.

Red flames against a pitch black sky.

Joseph cries, grabs his arm and tries to pull Jacob with him.

Then, Joseph is gone.

John is gone as well.

He hears him scream is name, somewhere far away.

The smoke burns in his eyes.

„Oh boy, what have you done?“, the Sheriff asks calmly, leading him away.

april 1990

He joins the army that month.

The psychologists say, that it could be a way to tame his aggression.

To use it against national enemies and secure safety. To do good.

Better.

They ask him if he could be strong. He won't see them for months.

He is ready, and he will show them.

Jacob knows he can be the strongest, most skilled soldier they have ever seen.

He thought the recruiting would be more prestigious in a way, like the old posters he has seen from World War 2.

Instead, he stands in a long line, outside in a dreary court in the cold.

Excitement rushes through his veins.

Is this, how purpose feels like?

Later, as his boots crush the bones of an unwilling cultist, Jacob thinks about the countless times he had to talk with the psychologists. He is now amused, who they thought it would be a good idea to put a brutal teenager into the army.

He laughs, the man cries.

october 1990

We want you

What do they want them for? Jacob tries to not think about it too much.

He is angry. Still so angry.

His anger, his rage is now externalized and he feels like he has never been to juvenile detention programs.

His blood rushes trough his veins, something in his head commands him to kill.

Like an untamed dog, wolf-like.

He never misses a shot in any training session. He is ready. Strong.

They want a lot from them. Jacob is willing to deliver.

may 1991

He is outstanding at what he does. The high decorated generals call him a talented marksman.

He joins the 82-nd Airborne, target: Kuwait. A real Green Beret.

He is one of the youngest soldiers to lead a whole troop in a secret mission.

First Lieutenant Jacob Seed, one of the youngest marksman that has ever been decorated.

He will soon be there. And then he'll wish himself back to North Carolina, back to Fort Bragg, on the cold yard, in his grey bedroom.

august 1991

It's an ambush. He knew it.

He is thrown against a house as the bomb detonates.

His ears ring, his legs and back hurt. He doesn't know if he can get up, but he has to.

Has to. Has to. He must.

“Lieutenant! I'll get you out of here!”

Someone helps him up.

It's Miller.

Thank God, it's Miller

september 1991

There's dust everywhere. Heat.

No water. No food.

His skin burns, scars from the countless detonations.

Maybe even acid. It stings like hell.

The sunburn doesn't help the healing.

Miller coughs a lot and Jacob is so terribly annoyed by that weak man.

That night, he slits his throat.

It is the night, that erases his emotions in a way, there's a nagging cold spreading in his chest. It makes itself a home in the crater deep down in Jacob's soul.

Miller's flesh tastes disgusting, scraggy and dry. He chokes on it, his stomach rebels.

Jacob keeps his knife. It's an army standard one, red handle.

The number on it burns itself in his brain, in his memory.

It will become the only thing he'll be able to say when he's awake in the middle of the night.

Some things have to broken first, to arise better, stronger.

It is what keeps him going, strength.

september 1991

He arrives at the base. They ask him to identify himself, ask him where the man under his command is that has gone missing. Miller.

Jacob tells them he died due to a heart attack, caused by dehydration.

They believe him. The troop they send out to find his body, comes back with empty hands.

Jacob doesn't feel bad about it, he tells himself.

That night the shaking starts, his bed rattles at night. He can't do shit against it, even when he's awake.

In the following week they'll send him home.

When he sees Miller's wife for the first time, he doesn't speak to her. He doesn't approach her.

His stomach burns, Jacob feels like vomiting.

She calls his name, but he isn't a First Lieutenant any longer.

Jacob wouldn't have believed anyone who told him, that he would feel welcomed in that Veteran's Hospital.

But he does.

It is mostly because of Joanne, that beautiful, beautiful nurse.

His shaking got better.

He still sees them, the countless men storming into his bedroom at midnight, trying to kill him.

Joanne tells them they aren't real, hallucinations of his fears.

Thank God for Joanne, thank God for getting me out of Kuwait alive

june 1993

The doctors say, that he needs something to do. An occupation.

Maybe drawing, maybe reading.

Drawing reminds him of John, how he used to draw their family as a child.

Happy and smiling.

Jacob asks himself what he is currently doing.

Reading makes him think of James Joyce, that reminds him of Joseph.

How he used to talk about Virginia Wolf and The Great Gatsby.

Jacob asks himself if Joseph is alright.

He picks gardening instead. It soothes him.

He plants tulips for Joanne. Maybe, one day, everything will be alright. He hopes so.

In a decade, he'll be planting white flowers. White flowers of bliss, all around his compound.

july 1993

He's on pain killers and Alprax now.

He sees and hears people everywhere he goes.

They scream and cry, they are bleeding.

Grenades blasting, acid tearing skin apart.

The doctors say, he'll be better soon.

The only thing left is hope.

august 1994

Joanne and he talk a lot by now.

She shows him old music. Music she likes.

They have a lot of old vinyls in the Veteran's hospital. Jacob's favourite one is one from the mid 50s.

It makes him feel less alone, like there is something he has to look forward to.

Only you can make the darkness bright

He doesn't feel alone when she is around.

Jacob doesn't know if this whole thing is supposed to be romantic.

Right now, he's just glad to be surrounded by someone.

november 1994

There's a flew market in the town, not far from the hospital.

He buys a small music box. It plays Only You.

For a mere second, he wonders how they are, what they are doing.

He misses John's genuine laughter.

When had Jacob laughed the last time?

He misses Joseph chatting about the books he read.

What is Joseph reading right now?

Jacob vomits right there, on the street.

An old lady watches him.

january 1995

Jacob asks Joanne out.

Only you

She declines.

That night, his shaking rattles the metal frame of his bed and his screams wake everyone on his floor.

february 1996

He now knows what they are trying to do to him.

They try to tame him.

Weaken him.

Jacob knows it.

He now gets medication to help him with his insomnia.

When he watches the news he seems them, all the soldiers fighting oversea.

He is the lone wolf, an old alpha pushed out of his pack.

He'll find a new one.

october 1997

They release him. Or, he releases himself. Ran out of money.

He'll be fine, he tells himself.

It is hard to find a new home, but the hardest is to find a way back into life.

When he goes grocery shopping, he looks behind is back far too often.

He tries to make out someone hiding behind the colourful packages of cornflakes, inside the shelves.

He glances into every corridor he passes.

Sometimes he sees them, cowering there, waiting for him. Guns loaded, ready to kill him.

He'll be fine, he tells himself.

march 2000

It's a Thursday night.

They are coming for him.

He can hear their footsteps on the wooden floor of his tiny apartment.

He is strong. He will kill them.

The ringing of his phone in the kitchen takes him back to reality.

His rifle falls to the floor.

september 2001

Jacob stares at his television.

The Twin Towers. Down. Ashes. Fire.

He feels like he's done it all for nothing.

Like he suffered for nothing.

He was a weapon – for nothing.

Realisation hits him hard, knocks the air out of his chest.

He still is.

His fingers itch. He wants to kill.

That night he goes hiking in the woods and shoots at random targets. Bears. Birds. Trees.

It makes him feel alive again. Jacob doesn't want to know if that is a dangerous sign or not.

The next few years will harden him.

Some things must be broken first, to be born anew, stronger.

june 2008

He still doesn't sleep regularly.

He vomits often, his stomach burns and cramps and he hears Miller's voice when the puke makes his throat hoarse, the taste in his mouth bitter.

He tried to reach out to Joanne. She doesn't work at the Veteran's hospital any more. No one knows where she is right now. It doesn't hurt as much as he expected it to.

He has himself under control. He is the strongest of them all.

april 2010

Jacob is out of the Veteran's program for nearly a decade when he receives a call from the east side, Connecticut.

It's John. He wants him to attend the allocation of the master degree diploma.

He is too ashamed to go.

Mortified by the broken man, shaking and vomiting, holding onto something that pretty surely died in fucking Kuwait.

He is not able to tell John how proud he is of him. He just can't. He opens his mouth and chokes on his own tongue.

I'll call ya, finds its way out instead.

He asks himself if Joseph made it to college somehow as well. Jacob thinks, he would have made it through brilliantly.

july 2011

Jacob is with Joseph now, back in Georgia. Oh, sunny Georgia. Only you

He is tracking down John. He is doing what he excels at.

Joseph tells him, that God helped him out of Kuwait alive.

That it was his test. He is strong enough. Jacob always knew.

Strong, strong, strong.

That he is important to something no one could ever fully understand,

Purpose. Sweet, sweet promise.

Jacob craves it.

Joseph looks horrible, Jacob thinks. He doesn't have the courage to ask him why or what had happened, to take care of him.

He tells himself, that it's no lack of courage, it is a way to harden his younger brother.

november 2013

John looks even worse than Joseph did.

He has a lot of money, but his cheeks are sunken in and his eyes look empty.

Jacob wants to hug him, but he hasn't the courage to do so.

He tells himself, that he is stronger than his emotions and that his brother will soon be stronger as well.

In a few years, he'll notice at midnight, when nightmares kept him awake once again, how he should've done all of that.

march 2014

The pack has a new alpha.

To Jacob, they will obey.

Whitetail Mountains, Montana.

He is going to make them strong.

Not weak like Miller. They will have their purpose.

Nourishing the strong.

Strong like him. The Samson. Samson from the Book of Judges,

Judges, his Judges.

Hunter, his Hunters.

His purpose.

Jacob knows that Joseph understands how The Collapse will work.

Jacob is happy to help, to fulfil his purpose.

Finally he is not screaming at his younger brother, fighting him.

He still knows this guy back from his service at the army.

He'll call him. John will make them succeed.

When he first sees him, he notices the black hair.

It reminds him of someone, a time he doesn't like thinking about, and his stomach burns.

It rebels like he has to swallow his flesh again, black hair, Miller.

Joseph asks if he could take care of him. Deputy Pratt.

So weak, so pitiful, so stupid.

Yet, he has a purpose.

Jacob feels untameable energy dwelling up inside him.

He has himself pulled together.

It will only hurt a lot.

Jacob is not afraid. He is the strongest of them all.

He tries not to think of natural selection.

His heart beats so fast, his lungs don't do what he wants them to do.

Jacob tries not to think of himself as a failure.

There's a burning ache in his back. Like the old kitchen chair.

Jacob tries not to think of his life being at the brink. That it will be over in a blink.

He spits blood.

It hurts a lot. That’s not how he ever imagined dying.

He hopes, he prays, that his family can be strong without him.

He is so afraid, he doesn't want to be alone again.

It is like someone turned all the lights on, it's so bright around him.

Like a bomb detonating.

Then it's all over.

It's only him.

Jacob hopes, he did it alright.

Maybe, for the first time of his life he did well.

Wow! There was a lot more Neil/Andreil/Jean than I thought there was gonna be. Jesus. Like every month except September and March (only because I literally drew nothing those months, at least nothing I posted) had back up images of either Neil or Jean or Neil and Andrew. I mean I’m not entirely surprised but still, this wasn’t even half of it...

I tried to get a variety of my stuff in here but I realized I heavy ended the year with stuff and again I never got around to posting the non fanart stuff so... 2018 I promise myself I want to do more Patrick Ness fanart and I know I’m drawing a lot more pet portraits, so there maybe like 5% less Andreil next year, we’ll see.

Good year though! Participated in a lot of cool (mainly TFC) projects! Started to make money off drawing peoples’ pets (which is the most pure way to make money even if I hate acrylic painting)! Cried over the fact that despite spending 5 years at University I still have no time management skills to fit all these projects, but I still do them all because they’re fun and I have no impluse control either! Speaking of, also drew Impluse just never posted him so yeah, bonus. And I broke my two year More Than This art dry spell twice! :D

My personal favourite piece(s) this year was April’s (the Iliad series) because that class was the highlight of my entire school career and those drawings both my first 100% on an assignment in Uni and the first time someone has bought my art, so yeah!

Sorry if any of this is incoherent (or there are typos); 2017 decided to bless me last minute with a cold.

Hard to say since I haven’t counted last years’ writing and forgive me but I don’t feel like doing it anyway lmao. I think I wrote a bit less. I definitely did not wrote all the fics I planned and predictably I started new wips heh and some shorter pieces gave me ideas for more longer fics/snippet fics.

Highlights + Wrap-up: Favourite Opening Lines (3):

1. Kagami thinks he’s got this. He can keep his calm even when he’s buzzing around in his seat for the past three hours of the delay, but then he sees him and he loses it.

2. Kagami stared at the simple bento box held out to him and then at Kuroko.

3. After turning thirty, Daiki noticed that there were a lot more things which were pissing him off about the world, but one thing which was at the top of the list was spending ~quality~ time with Tetsu-kun and Kagamin as Satsuki still insisted on calling them.

Favourite Closing Lines (4):

1. Whatever, he had a few months to make the best damn vanilla shake in the world.

2. "Hey." Taiga said and brushed the last stray tears from his eyes.

"Yes?"

"Let's get a kid."

The brilliant smile was all he need as an answer.

3. Yes, parents should get involved. He didn’t care anymore that their daughter didn’t express almost any personal interest in basketball, but hey at least she was doing something sport related, right?

Just…did it really have to be baseball?

4. "Let's go." He said and pulled Tetsuya down under water with him, where they both explored the secrets of the deep blue sea.

1. The only thing which was missing was a kiss." Tatsuya mused and then looked at Kagami.

"No!" Kagami yelled scandalized, finally out of his daze. His face felt like it was on fire.

2. And despite the edge of the table digging uncomfortably into his stomach it was the first kiss in a long while which made Tetsuya’s heart flutter instead of making his stomach sink.

3. Satsuki knew that Aomine was fast, but it was still incredible how he bolted when the light changed from red to green.

4. “Daiki.” She only ever used his full name when she thought he was exceptionally annoying or stupid. “I’m pregnant. You can’t be more girly than that.”

5. “It seems that Kagami-kun is having improper thoughts.” Kuroko said lips nibbling on his sweet treat. “And in public.” He added as if he was disappointed but it was obvious he was making fun of him.

My 2017

The end of the year is in sight, and so it is time to, once again, write a long post in which I look back on the past year and get all sentimental and stuff. It’s fun! And since I’ve kinda made an annual tradition out of it, why the fuck not?

I’m gonna be using the same questions/categories as I did last year for maximum comparison (and so I know what to write about), so if you want to read last year’s post, I’ll link it here: (x)

The Beginning of 2017 vs. Now I definately think that there’s a huge difference between the beginning of the year and the end. When this year started, I was sooooo busy with school. I had multiple test weeks coming up and I was behind on almost all my subjects. The stress of all that stuff caused me to feel really unhappy, and apart from that my transition also wasn’t really moving forward. And now? Now I’m five months on T, finished with school, and even though work is still stressfull at the moment and I’m still not really happy, I can say that I’m a lot happier than I was at the beginning of the year. I also feel like at the beginning of the year I was kinda stuck in a negative mindset. I felt lonely all the time, and I had just started to realise that I was a very insecure person and I felt really lonely and busy and isolated and I just wasn’t in a good place, ya know? And I feel like in the past year I’ve become better at dealing with my insecurities and with jealousy, which has increased the value I have of myself, which has definately improved my quality of life.

So, to summarise it: Since the beginning of the year I’ve reached multiple of my goals, reached some milestones and, most importantly, I’ve grown as a person.

Best things about 2017 So many good things happened this year! I don’t even know where to begin, so I’ll try to start with things that happened at the beginning of the year and just see where it leads me. I hope I won’t forget anything lmao.

Okay, so first of all, Voltron season 2, 3 and 4 were all released this year! Three seasons! That’s crazy! I didn’t really enjoy the last two that much, but damn, season 2 was really fun! Other tv shows that got new seasons this year were Stranger Things, Doctor Who (I can’t believe I’ve only finished the tenth doctors seasons this year! I can’t believe I’ve not been into Doctor Who for more than a year! It’s so much funn!!!!), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (which reminds me, I started watching “the good place” this year! Amazing show!), and Sense8! Speaking of sense8, I only started watching it in the beginning of this year, and it has easily become one of my favourite shows ever! I’m so glad I got to watch this show this year!

Then in february, I discovered the band One Ok Rock, which is one of my favourite bands at the moment. It’s crazy to think I haven’t even known them for a year, because they’ve become such an integral part of my music library. And so have Lindsey Stirling and Ed Sheeran by the way! I went to a Lindsey Stirling concert in March and have become a huge fan of her latest album “brave enough” ever since then. And Ed Sheeran’s album “Devide” had some amazing songs on it that I connected with instantly and have helped me through some hard times. I really can’t believe I’ve only been listening to these songs for like nine months or something. It feels like it’s been forever. The same goes for a certain musical genre by the way, but we’ll get into that later!!

Then in may, two amazing things happened, first of all I got to perform on a huge stage with my choir, and met some famous dutch people there! Roel van Velzen for example! That was crazy! We were on TV!!!

The second thing is, I finished my exams and was done with school! This made me feel sooooo much happier. I instantly just felt a lot better and suddenly had time to do stuff I liked, like read and write and play the piano. Honestly, those months (end of may - end of august) were some of the best months I’ve had in a loooong time. I wish I could go back sometimes lmao.

So yeah, I graduated, turned eightteen, went to Ireland for the first time. All of that stuff was amazing. Then, on the 28th of june, I went to the hospital and got one of the best surprises I’ve ever gotten. I COULD FINALLY, FINALLY, GO ON T! If I had to pick my best day of the year, I’d probably choose this day. Testosterone has already improved my life so much and I’ve only been on it for five months. I can’t imagine how much it will change me in the next year and I also can’t wait to find out!!

Oh, and after that, I GOT INTO KPOP! I started really listening to Day6 during my vacation to ireland, but around the end of august/beginning of september, I started to get really really into SHINee, and in extention, to kpop. Honestly, this might sound dramatic, but Day6 and SHINee have added so much to my life. Their music and just their personalities never fail to make me smile, and they bring me comfort when I feel down. Since a few weeks, BTS has also been added to that list. Their music and the members just really mean a lot to me, so I’d say kpop is definately one of the best things that happened to me this year.

Then I got a job in september, and I can’t really remember if anything big has happened since then. The only thing I can really think of is I SAW JACKSEPTICEYE LIVE! That evening was such a fun evening and it was awesome to finally get to see one of my heroes in person and to be in the same room with him and see that he’s actually real, haha. I don’t think I’ve screamed that much anywhere else this year.

Oh, and I also went to my first pride this year! Sadly, I couldn’t stay there very long because of work, but it was amazing and I can’t wait to go again!

I also started my youtube channel this year, which is cool. I really love making content for it, but unfortunately it takes a lot of time that I usually don’t have. I hope I’ll be able to keep it up for another year!

So, I think that’s it for this year. If you look at it like this it’s actually quite a lot of positive stuff! That’s always good.

OH AND HOW COULD I FORGET I went to london with my mom this year! It was only two nights but it was amazing and I had loads of fun there!

And another thing I wanted to add is I feel like I’ve become a lot closer with my friends this past year. I guess that’s just what happens when you know them for a year longer, but idk. We see eachother a lot less than last year and despite that we’ve only become closer and I think that’s a really amazing thing.

OH, and I started to watch the You’re So Brave podcast by Chase Ross & Aaron Ansuini and oh my god have these dudes helped me a lot in the past year. Thank you guys so so much!!!

My resolutions for 2017? I haven’t looked at my resolutions for this year since I posted them last year... oops. But I remember quite a few of them and I believe I’ve achieved some of them so I’m just going to copy-paste them here and adress them all individually

Go on Testosterone, for real this time - Did that!! I went on T on the 28th of July 2017 and am now Five months and Three days on T!

Write more! - .... well I guess I failed that one. I wrote exactly four pages in the past year

Save money and buy new jeans, flannels and hoodies - I did save money, and bought my favourite flannel, hoodie and jeans this year, so I guess that counts

Finish School! - DID THAT

Read a lot of books! - Sadly, I didn’t manage to achieve my reading goal on goodreads. I only read 22 books this year when I wanted to read 35. Last year, I read about the same amount, so I’d count this as a fail.

Stay Hydrated! - Idek if I did this lmao. I did become more aware of what I’m eating and what I should eat more and less to stay healthy, so I’m going to count this as a win

Try to make my tumblr blog a safe and positive place for everyone - I’ll let you guys be the judge of that

Stay positive - I’ve definately tried this, so that’s good enough

Try to be the best person I can be - I’ve become a lot more self aware the past year, and I did find out what my flaws were and how to work on them, so I think I did this.

Fight my insecurities - As I’ve stated in the beginning of this post, I think I’ve become better at dealing with them, so I’d say yeah, I did that!

Reach 200 followers on tumblr!! - Did that! I’ve got about 280 followers now!!

So yeah, overall I think I did pretty good in the past year! Better than I expected at least haha

Expectations for 2018 Okay, let’s see. I’m expecting I’ll keep my job until around june/july. I’ll turn nineteen in june, and I’m going to see Paramore, Markiplier, Ed Sheeran and Dan and Phil live this year! Really looking forward to that!! Then in september I’m going to start university, and I think that I’m going to have Top-Surgery somewhere between september and december of this year. Apart from that I don’t really know what to expect. I think university will be quite easy for me education-wise, and hard social-wise, since I’m not good around strangers and might have some slight social anxiety. But apart from that I don’t really have a clear vision for the future. I am probably going to start learing how to drive so I might get my driver’s liscence this year. Who knows? It’ll be a mystery until I’ve lived it guys.

2018 Resolutions? I am feeling ambitious rn so I’m probably gonna set the bar too high but oh well who cares let’s do this

And yeah, that’s it! I hope you’ve all enjoyed going along on this journey through my past year with me. Looking back on the past year is always one of my favourite parts of new year’s eve. It’s so good to look back and see all that you’ve accomplished in a year and it just makes me really sentimental and stuff and I like that.

Movies I saw in 2017

So, I thought it would be fun to list all the movies I went to see to a movie theatre last year and maybe say a few words about them. In total I saw 24 movies last year, and when you read the list, you’ll see that I have quite a varied taste in movies.

January

1. Collateral beauty

This movie actually premiered already in the end of 2016, but I had time to go see it in the beginning of 2017. I remember that it was quite a beautiful movie, and the story wasn’t what I was expecting. I thought that it would be more about how Will Smith’s character interacts with Love, Death and Time, but actually it’s more about his friends interacting with them.

February

2. Vaiana (originally Moana)

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I wasn’t that thrilled about Vaiana, though maybe I would warm up to it after watching it a few times. I’m not saying that it’s a bad movie, not at all, but personally, I just wasn’t that into it.

3. Hidden figures

This was a thought-provoking movie. To me, it seemed incomprehensible how difficult white people made black people’s lives. And for seemingly no reason. But it was nice to see them succeed and knowing that it was based on true story made it even more amazing.

4. Beauty and the Beast

Again, I wasn’t so thrill about this movie. I think I liked the live-action version of Cinderella more. But still it is a nice and funny movie with some amazing songs.

5. Your name

This is absolutely one of my favourite movies in 2017. It was so beautiful and surpricing, and I’m totally speechless!

6. Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge

I think this movie is better than the previous Pirates of the Caribbean movie. One thing that made this movie special to me was that I don’t really go to movie premieres, but this time my holiday was just starting and I decided to celebrate it by going to this premiere here where i live. It wasn’t any special event, just a first screening of the movie here, but it was still nice.

7. Everything, Everything

This movie managed to have the ending I was expecting and still surprise me with it at the same time.

8. Wonder woman

I liked that the fight scenes weren’t overly bloody, because that’s what I usually dislike in action or war movies. Otherwise I don’t think I have much to say about this movie.

July

9. Despicable me 3

This movie I went to see with a friend. It is a funny movie. Minions were great! I don’t have much else to say.

10. The Circle

When I went to see this movie, I was the only one in a movie theatre for 100 people! This movie really made me think a lot. I don’t necessarily agree with the main character about making every bit of our lives public, and I didn’t really understood what exactly was the secret her boss was hiding, but I think it’s a good thing if a movie makes me think.

11. Valerian and the City of Thousand Planets

I don’t have a lot to say about this movie. I didn’t think it was an amazing film, but it wasn’t totally bad either. But it was an ok action movie, and they are nice to watch sometimes.

12. Spider man: Homecoming

My friend really liked this movie. Also, my favourite Avenger is Iron man, and I knew he was in this movie, so I decided to go and see this. I didn’t see Iron man as much as I would have liked (I think Peter Parker thought the same), but I think this movie was funny and better than some other Marvel movies that have come out in recent years.

13. Cars 3

I draw plank with this movie. I remember its story, but I can’t remember if I thought it was funny, or how I felt about it afterwards.

14. The Beguiled

I was somewhat conflicted about whether I go to see this movie or. On the other hand, I can’t stand horror movies or very gory movies, and by its trailer I thought that this could be like that. On the other hand I was really fascinated about its story and what was going to happen. IN the end, I decided to go to see it, and it wasn’t as scary and gory as I was afraid it could be, but it definitely wasn’t a happy movie. But that’s ok, because I was expecting that. What surprised me before the movie started was, that the audience was mainly middle aged women. As I was expecting to see some kind of mild horror movie, I didn’t think that they would be the main audience group.

15. Tulip Fever

As I wrote in this blog after seeing this movie, I really liked this. I think it was beautiful and the story didn’t rely on some easily fixed misunderstandings.

October

16. The Big sick

I really liked this movie. It felt so realistic, which it probably was too, because it was based on a true story. It also felt “small” somehow, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. More like that it was realistic (as I said already), and not so shiny and over the top like many big budget romantic comedies are.

17. Victoria & Abdul

I have written here about my thought about this movie also, but during this year, I’ve realised how interesting it is to see movies and tv shows based on true stories. If they follow the real story really closely, they are often not clichéd and predictable.

18. My Little Pony the movie

This movie was exactly what I expected it to be. It was hilarious and happy. Sometimes it was obvious that it was based on a tv show that I hadn’t seen, because it didn’t really introduce the characters and their back stories, as it was expected that the audience knows them already. Some of the ponies in the main group seemed to be a bit unnecessary since they didn’t really have a meaning for the story, but they probably had to be there since I guess they were part of the main group in the tv show too.

19. Yösyöttö

This is a Finnish comedy about a man, whose wife leaves him right after the birth of their son, because she realises that she really can’t be a mom. The movie then follows the man as he tries to adapt to his life as a single father of a new born. I don’t really like Finnish movies that often, because usually they are so depressing and sad, or then people swear a lot in them, but I think this was ok.

20. Thor: Ragnarök

My friend really loved this movie. For me, it was a bit too sci-fi. I like the previous Thor-movies (or at least the first one, I think I might not have seen the second one) more because they happened mostly on Earth, but this one was situated almost entirely on a planet in other dimension(?) or something.

December

21. Murder on the Orient Express

I didn’t really like this movie’s portrayal of Hercule Poirot. He seemed somehow OCD, and that’s not how I see him. The role of Johnny Depp was smaller than I expected. Well, I mean, that yes, his character was important for the story, but he had less screen time than I was expecting.

22. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

I’m not a big Star Wars fan, but there was so much hype around the first one of these new films that I thought that I should probably go see that. That’s kind of the reason I went to see this one too. In the last movie, when Han died, I thought that Luke and Leia are probably going to die in these following movies. It seems that I was right.

23. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

This movie was one of my favourites last year! I’m going to write about this more in detail in a post of its own, but I try to summarise my thoughts here. It is quite perfect combination of humour and action and the action scenes aren’t too violent or gory for my taste. Jack Black performance was hilarious!

24. Ballerina

I’ve seen many negative reviews about this movie, and I don’t really understand why. I didn’t think it was that bad. Obviously it had some unrealistic bits, but come on, what movie doesn’t have those? Especially if it’s aimed at children. The only thing that I would have liked is that I would have liked to know more about why Camille’s mother wanted her daughter to become a ballerina. Why not something else?

Well, here they are, all 24 movies I saw last year, and some of my thoughts about them. I don’t know if this is actually interesting to anyone but me, but here it is anyway.

Finsterhund’s 2017 Summary of Art (and by extension, the rest of my life)

I’d be lying if I said that 2017 wasn’t an incredibly difficult year for the easily excitable finsterhund but it was also a very productive year for my art. I’m not going to deny that. A lot of issues came about that pushed me really hard, and I did break, but I mended too. I grew stronger in some ways. My writing took a nosedive and I’m not sure how to repair that, but my art, well... this is the first time I’ve ever done one of these. That should speak for itself.

In some months it was difficult to pick which one. I decided against choosing ones that may have been partially rotoscoped (such as my reaction images and most memes) and also because I tend to draw too similar to reference images I use. So no redraws of blurry HoD concept art or stuff.

January: [x]

This was supposed to be the picture for holidays 2016 but I’m a lazy earth boy who must’ve been slacking off because I finished and posted it right on January first! I remember at the time I was really proud of this one, and spent a lot of time on it. It was drawn traditionally and then scanned and digitized in GIMP... yes gimp. Fishy loved it and that made me happy. Nowadays I can pick apart so many flaws, especially in Andy. The lines look so shaky! Maybe I’ll redraw it for January 1st 2018! Assuming I don’t slack off again.

It was hard picking one from this month because I didn’t really like my drawings from then. Here’s art in paint of Red Spot eating a burger. I used to draw him with food when I was hungry for a while. Mmmmmm borger.

March: [x]

This is the month things started to take a nosedive. There was lots of good things happening, but some bad stuff too. A few new problems arose, but at the time the biggest was I found out my birth mom was being evicted and I would have to help her clear the old house. THAT old house. I retreated heavily into my artistic comforts and drew a lot of pictures of Red Spot being comforting and supportive to Andy. Red was created for that purpose after all, and Andy being a character I so closely identify with ended up being the comfort I needed especially then. Despite its crudeness in ms paint I do love this picture and should redraw it in Sai at some point.

The trials I had to face were unreal this month. The Wannabe War(tm) is well underway, and the time to return to the old house rapidly approached. I drew like there was no tomorrow, and these paint pictures were the best. Smoother lines, and more detail. When the time came to face that house things got ugly. Mom hid that my dog Jack had been dead for over half a year and broke the news only when I became distraught when I arrived and he didn’t come when I called him. My fixation on the “monkey’s paw” that was ruining everything I ever wished for started around here, and I kept breaking down. Bad regressing back to before I left that place happened. But something else did too. I DIDN’T. STOP. DRAWING. I drew more and more. Choosing to bring my laptop allowed me to make more pictures. A lot of Red Spot and Andy comfort ones, some mean little immature vent comics, and memes. Lots of memes. I was able to do the job I went there to do and returned home exhausted but VICTORIOUS. My art? Well I think I actually improved a lot then. It was predominantly due to surviving in spite of everything and the sheer volume of cruddy little paint drawings. I didn’t want to pick a mean comic and already had one ms paint Andy and Red picture in this line up so here’s a surprisingly detailed xenomorph queen being licked by a prequel era character who is a massive spoiler. Not only were both characters very complicated to draw, but I’m genuinely shocked I was able to draw an xenomorph at all.

After the painful embarrassment of April I tried really hard to relax. I was still really scared and anxious about the Wannabe incident, but it had more or less turned into a post-arms race stalemate where he wasn’t really doing anything and I just had my weapons of mass destruction pointed at him with my grubby little orange paw over the launch button which is where things have been ever since. My art took a relaxation break, but it was still steadily getting better. Late May I wanted to come up with a reason to actually celebrate my birthday (June 3rd) so I did a silly little “June is International Heart of Darkness month” post featuring Red and Andy sharing a slice of chocolate cake. I went on to say that June 3rd was “International draw heart of darkness fan art” day (real smooth you egocentric mutt) but I thought it’d be a good way to actually celebrate the day but make it about the video game that gave me a reason to live another year instead of about me aging, as I openly hate that I grow older.

A few of my friends drew HoD stuff this month, but a lot of my friends were busy due to jobs, school, life, etc. We used to be a lot more active in 2015 and even in 2016 so this did hit me pretty hard. As a result, I become very frustrated and out of spite decide it’s finally time to test my “new toy.” I don’t remember when Kale actually gave me his old tablet, but in June I finally install its drivers, get a copy of paint tool sai, and draw a lot with it. At first I hate these pictures and go back to paint whenever possible. There’s something wrong with my copy of sai and windows 10 doesn’t like the drivers. But I push myself, and I start to make more pictures of Andy, Whisky, Red Spot, etc. Not a lot of my early Sai pictures ever got posted or even made it past the inking stage, but one night I just couldn’t sleep so I drew Andy cradled in the crook of Red’s wing and got it to the flat colors stage.

July: [x]

I try to calm down. it’s a good month I think. Not much happens. It’s the month I finally give myself a new fursona. I decided that Red Spot isn’t “me” and I can’t use Andy in furry communities so I come up with a solution. It... it’s just Andy as a doberman. It’s a little orange doberman that wears a red bandanna and Andy’s hat... Doberman Andy. But he’s cute, and I can draw him, and so I do draw him. And he helps me get better at drawing in Sai.

August: [x]

The month of the solar eclipse! Me and my friend were going to go down to the US to see it together and... nope... that plan fell through. It makes me a brat, but that’s okay because I can just draw six hundred thousand drawings of Andy. That’ll help me feel better. I ended up having a sabbatical from my blog after some people on tumblr began to bother me and I put up a drawing of Andy’s shoe so nobody could go in. This is an MS Paint picture! Sadly, I’ve stopped really drawing in the program. I like how I did Andy’s face even if his hat and hair weren’t the best.

I return from my sabbatical and begin to spam my tumblr with Andy drawings I’m making in paint tool sai. The quality and style of Andy in these pictures varies drastically as I try a whole manner of new things. At one point I make a post that has five color pictures of Andy in it. It’s slowly becoming difficult to pick which picture I wanted to put here. Not because I didn’t like any, but because I liked too many. SMOL Andy was probably my favourite of the bunch. I made him more chibi and cute than I normally do. It was on accident but I thought he was too cute to go back and make him more on-model.

I was supposed to do an Andy version of Inktober but I guess the extreme amount of Andy pictures was a September thing because I burned out relatively quickly. I had some drama involving a prototype disc and also ended up having to pay way too much extra money every month until further notice but it’s a relatively calm month all things considering. The way I drew Andy in this art isn’t particularly stellar, but I love what I did with Red’s mouth and nose. I wanted to show that the way I draw Red improved too.

November: [x]

My chronic pain gets worse for no good reason, I get a very disturbing creeper threatening me online, and I’m generally depressed, but I’m drawing. That’s good. I start a new revolutionary technique when I rely almost entirely on the cinematics as reference and don’t reference other cartoon styles whenever I can when it comes to drawing Andy. I enjoy the result. Drawing him in a cute penguin-themed suit made my day. It was so hard to decide which one to pick this month. I loved so many of them.

Like November, but somewhat better I think. I’m still drawing Andy a lot, with Red coming along for the ride too. This one I tried to draw Andy in a more Disney-like style. I love how I did his face and freckles. The drawing of Whisky from the same post is great too. I look at a lot of my newer drawings and feel genuinely pleased with the result. I think I actually am improving, and whilst I think it is due a lot to getting sai and a tablet, it can also be because I’m becoming more skilled and getting more practice as well. Lets hope the new year brings us smooth sailing, lots of fun, and happy times our way. HoD will be 20 in 2018 and I’m ready to bring the subject of my love and joy a great two decade celebration.
