In this Omegaverse au, Light has two kids. One with L and one with Misa. Light had Ryu with L. And Tsuki with Misa.

Ryu was born first, he was born a few months after L had died. It is concidered an accident by L and by Light. But Light feels like it's all L's fault for not providing him with heat Supressents when they were handcuffed together. (Soichiro insisted it was a bad idea)

Tsuki was born a year and half after Ryu, Misa was jelous that Light got pregnant with another Alpha, and so she took his heat Supressents to make him more willing and got him pregnant.

After Tsuki was born Light had gotten birth control and more heat Supressents but hid them at work so Misa couldn't take them away.

Matsuda helps out with the baby sitting

I just had a terrible idea for a roleswap between my four fav dn characters so here we go

Lawliet "L" Wammy (age: 18)

A brilliant student but a bit of a shut-in

Spends all his time either in school or locked in his room on the computer

True Crime fan before it was cool

His father Quillsh is proud of his impressive grades but really wishes he'd go out more

A bored Shinigami (maybe Ryuk? idk about swapping the Shinigami) directly hands L a Death Note because they thought he'd have fun with it.

L immediately uses it and his detective skills (along with his connections online) to solve cold cases.

"Light" (age: 24)

Real name: Tsuki Yagami

A mysterious, faceless detective who works alongside his mentor "Asahi" to solve cases that seem fun.

"I am the Light that will purge Kira's darkness! I am Justice!"

^^Total drama queen. The maniacal laughter with his voice modifier is just *chef's kiss*

Has no problems with using criminals to get results, but Asahi will often call him out on his more questionable choices.

Officer Misa Amane (age: 23)

During the Kira case, her alias is Misaki Anai

Just recently hired on the NPA

Often gets sent to fetch people coffee, much to her dismay

Wants to protect innocent people, but is unsure about her stance on Kira most of the time

Works on the Kira Task Force alongside Light and the other NPA officers

(Maybe Aizawa's the chief in this timeline? Idk about putting Quillsh on the NPA, it might be more fun to see how Kira would operate without that inside info)

Pretends to be Matsu-Matsu's manager to keep an eye on him

(She has way too much fun with the manager gig and hates having to pass it off to Mogi later. Or maybe she's a lot sneakier during the Yotsuba arc. idk)

Touta "Matsu-Matsu" Matsuda (age: 22)

Not-so-successful model (but he's having fun with it)

After finding a dropped Death Note and reading the rules, he figures out that Kira must have one too

He uses secret messages to find Kira on a Kira fansite

The two of them try to crack cases and go after criminals together

I'm still debating if Matsu gets the Shinigami Eyes. If he thinks it's the only way he can be useful to Kira he might do the trade. But also I want him to live so 😭😭

He's a pretty good cover for L once the two of them meet in person- L can pretend that he's made a friend in school to keep his father off his back

Uh, seems I should give a crash course of Japanese needed to understand Dragon Ball 101... and some things you see in the fandom lol

Just out there: I'm a linguist / grammar nerd, my knowledge of Japanese as a whole is very limited. I just use the following tips to understand most of what's happening and how I deconstruct things, as well as why/how certain things are written!

So here, please check it out if you're interested in how I decipher most of it!

Today.. writing systems !

Japanese uses three writing systems (well, 4):

Hiragana: syllables; mostly used for prepositions and words. They're round and have few strokes.

Katakana: syllables; mostly used for foreign-loan words, emphasis, sounds, and machine-caused onomatopoeia. They're square and have few strokes too.

Kanji: ideograms; Kanji are (usually) words/concepts on their own and there's thousands of them. They come from Chinese. On their own, or coupled with each other, Kanji carry their own meaning. They're also combinatory (aka one kanji can contain many kanji within; check how tree 木, woods 林 and forest 森 are written for example; yup, it's just more trees squished together lol)

Romanji: latin alphabet letters (if I write "watashi", this is romanji). The transcription of japanese to the latin alphabet actually follows some rules, put a pin on it I'll explain that later.

Hiragana and Katakana are the same syllables, if it helps you out, think of them as lower and upper case letters (they don't have the same uses tho). Together, they're called kana.

In green: しかし (shi-ka-shi), means "however"); this is written in hiragana

In red: マシン (ma-shi-n ; machine) and ドクターゲロ (dokutoru—gero ; doctor gero)

in blue: 人造人間 has the kanji for man/person twice. It literally translates to "man-made human being" (and in English we've translated this to Artificial Human or Android, while some other languages translated it to Cyborg).

You can see that next to the blue square with 人造人間, there's tiny hiragana (じんぞうにんげん; ji-n-zo-u-ni-n-ge-n); those are called furigana and are present to tell the reader how the kanji is read (and what it means haha). Most shonen manga have them because they're aimed at kids who don't know all of the kanji yet! Furigana are also important because kanji can be read in two different ways (the kanji for mountain is either read as yama or san for instance; it's got to do with the Chinese pronunciation or the word as well as whether the kanji is on its own or combined with another).

Same here: everything is in hiragana except for Gohan's name (with the little furigana to tell you to read it as go-ha-n) and Gohan's age of 4 (they use the romanji /latin for numbers instead of the proper kanji).

If you remember Death Note, there's a moment in which Misa reads Light's full name above his head, but she reads his first name's kanji (月) as "tsuki" and then she's told it's actually read "light" (ライト; ra-i-to; aka the katakana transcription for the English word light)

Now, remember that pin about romanji? And if you remember some old (oooold) fanfics where Vegeta's name is written Bejïta? Well, this comes from that. Japanese syllables don't allow to transcribe everything, and phonology makes it so that Japanese speakers tend to pronounce loan words according to their syllables.

Dragon Ball's katakana name is ドラゴンボール (do-ra-n-go- bo—ru, or Doragon Bōru in the proper transcription system (the — means "longer vowel" which transcribes to an ō). This is why you sometimes see Goku's name written Gokū or, in old books, Gokuh or Gokou, and his furigana is go-ku-u). And there's a lot of loan-words used as names in Dragon Ball. Vegeta's name are the katakana for BE JI (+ longer vowel) TA.

Of course, when you know "all Saiyans are named after Vegetables", you can easily transcribe "back" to the origin-word that it was supposed to represent (you don't go around and write doragon boru, you write dragon ball, after all). Some are easier than others, and Toriyama (with his dad!boomer energy who loves bad puns) also switched some syllables around... Hell, even Saiya-jin (saiyans) (with jin as the kanji for people/population) is actually rearranged syllables for Yasai (vegetables). With that knowledge, Raditz could be transcribed as Radis or Radish (depending on your language) and Kakarot could be carot (or cacarot).. To go back to the original reference instead of playing translating back and forth forever lol.

Same for Bulma. Her katakana name is bu-ru-ma which is the transcription for "bloomers" (aka those gym shorts). This is why in old doujins, you'll see her name be written as Bluma or Bloomer or any other option around that. Bulma's name is written with latin letters very early on though, so there's consensus about her name, but there are others...

So let's talk about ブラ(bu-ra), the second kid of Vegeta and Bulma.

Until DBS came around, it was generally accepted that her name is Bra (like Trunks' name is Trunks and not Torankusu or Tolanks.. even if some people will write torankusu and I find that hilarious), because everyone in Bulma's family is named after undergarments (Bloomers, Panties (Panchy), Brief (Dr Briefs in English, professor Brief elsewhere), Trunks... and Bra for brassiere or plain old bra).

But in DBS, the anime gave her the Bulma treatment and showed her name in latin letters (Bulla).

Now.. why does it look so weird sometimes?

Because Katakana (and Hiragana) are syllable systems, and as such, no consonant (except for N) exists on its own. All consonants must have a vowel attached to them! And when a foreign word is transcribed to katakana, this is how they (generally) do it:

Base on the pronunciation, not on the actual spelling of the word.

If there's a consonant sound alone, add u (except T and D, those get an o)

If the sound doesn't exist as-is in the syllables available, pick the next best thing (fa will be fu + tiny a to let people know how to read it FA and not FUA). The L and R sounds are grouped together into the transcription with R, but they're more or less pronounced the same (in the middle). If you need a harder R, refer to the next point.

Use "longer vowel before this symbol" (ー) and "harder consonant after this symbol" (ッtiny version) symbols as needed to emphasize stress syllables or. (ベジータ (bejita) カカロット (kakarotto)

Profit.

This is why sometimes you'll see "Furiza" and you'll be "wait what" and then pronounce it and say "ooo.. Freezer". Why does English write it as Frieza? idk. French does Freeza and Spanish Freezer (the name is not the exact transcription for Freezer, since they removed a —; it's フリーザ instead of フリーザー)

Here's a fun example:

Fainaru Furasshu.

You know those "U" are usually there because of how the syllables work. Let's remove them.

Fainar Frassh.

You also know those R letters aren't hard strong R, so pronounce them a little softer, without rolling them. Pronounce this out loud now.

As my scanner now works, I'll show you how older fandom people used to transcribe the katakana names in latin letters before there was an official "decision" about such things!

Gatou, you’re pathetic. Did you know Misa in Death Note created an entire cult with Kira as their God and didn’t need to enter some Holy Grail War for that to happen. If you need a wish to grant it, you ain’t doing things right, dude.

I think I really need to read Tsukihime because I feel like a lot of people say Arc is super powerful and from her origins it sounds like she should be, but at the same time...didn’t Shiki kill her? And then didn’t she die at one point from Roa? Like is Roa really more powerful than Arc when she’s...the Moon Princess essentially (iirc she’s created by the moon. Also the extent of my knowledge on Tsuki is mostly the forbidden anime and CP, with some knowledge of the VN that someone told me).

Thanks for sharing thoughts about Lincoln's love life with me lol. Speaking of clueless friend of Sara's, how about that Heather eh~ if she's alive and okay through all of this perhaps someday you can write a ficlet about Michael through her eyes? Since she probably thinks Sara's "dead" husband is either insane or unstable which can't be further from the truth. Sorry for the storm of prompts.

Michael can feel eyes on him as he exits the car, his fingers nervously tapping against his leg.

They’d been packing boxes at the house, a move in their horizon, refusing to spend their time in a house that felt so tainted now. He walked through it like a ghost town, memories, both good and bad, haunting him of everything that he had missed over the years.

It hadn’t taken long before Sara had suggested that they make a fresh start, somewhere, anywhere but here. He’d thrown the idea that they move back to Chicago out one night at dinner. The opportunity for them to have a second chance in the city where it had all started sounding appealing to them both, the promise of endless baseball games a win for Mike.

Their items, very little of his own, sat neatly packed in front of them, boxes lining every room as they prepared to take off. One missing piece left, Mike.

“Why don’t you pick him up from school?” Sara had thrown out casually, as if it were something he did all the time. But he saw through her, the little grin on her mouth when he’d lit up at the chance to do something so mundane with his son.

So there he stood, parked car next to him, as he waited for his son to walk out of those doors, the first time for him, the last for Mike as they made their way west.

His thumb rubbed at his palm, not quite sure what he was nervous about, but then again, every act of being a parent felt big, important to him. Having missed so much, he was always eager to participate, but hesitant, not wanting to push his boundaries with a son that was still warming up to him. And while Sara assured him that he was doing great, that, if anything, Mike was more than accepting of the father he’d had missing from his life. He was still young, and a bit wary of new people.

Glancing over to the side, he could see a group of moms gawking at him, curiosity weighing on all their faces at the man who stood waiting for a child. The idea of being watched something that unsettled his stomach, having to remind himself that this was normal. That they were just being cautious, and he was being paranoid.

Raising his hand, he awkwardly waves towards them, attempting to ease their minds.

Thankfully, Mike comes out the door relatively soon, his mouth giving way to a smile upon seeing who was there to pick him up.

Bouncing down the steps, his backpack hitting him from behind with every step, he nearly runs up to Michael, wrapping his arms around his waist.

Michael’s hand coming to rest on his head, as he embraces him.

“Hey, bud,” he greets his son with a grin. “How was your last day?”

Mike nods, adjusting the straps of his backpack.

“It was good,” he says, glancing up at his dad.

“Excuse me,” Michael feels a woman gripping his arm, nearly whipping him around.

“Can I help you?” Michael asks, his first instinct to guide Mike behind him.

“Mike,” the woman grabs for the boy. Her voice panicky.

“Dad?” He says, his quiet voice pleading for help from him.

The woman’s face seems to contort into confusion at the plea.

“Mike, who is this?” She asks, bending down to meet his eyes.

“He’s my dad,” he says, and Michael swears if they weren’t in a situation as awkward as this one, his heart would’ve surged with pride and Mike’s label.

“Hi, I’m Michael Scofield,” he says, extending his hand to the woman who reluctantly introduces herself as Heather. Her eyes looking at him like they’d seen a ghost, disbelief written all over her.

“Sara mentioned that you were back, I just…I didn’t…” she stumbles, and Michael laughs, hoping to ease her nerves. Pulling Mike back to rest against him. “I’m sorry.”

Michael shakes his head, as if it were an honest mistake, almost grateful someone was looking out for his son even if by misguided notions.

“It was very nice to meet you,” Michael says, and he’s pretty sure she’s reaching for her phone to call Sara as he and Mike make their way to the car.

“You ready to go home?” Michael asks, glancing back at him as he got settled into his seat.

Mike nods in the back with a smile, as they pull out, Chicago in their near future.

incredible difficulty breathing, usually the result of someone close to him (re: Soichiro, Misa, L) piling physical bricks on his chest

crows eating loose eyeballs

embarrassment due to forgetfulness like misremembering the location for a celebration dinner and showing up late only to hv missed the event altogether

apples, both eaten and un-eaten

receiving phone calls where nothing is on the other line besides heavy breathing and the eventual wheezed out “I know” in a voice familiar yet unname-able

endless dates with women who all seem to know Light from high school but nvr rmbr his full name. they often refer to him as Tsuki for the duration of the nightmare but he can’t say anything for fear of being impolite

L’s ghost but only from the corner of his eye, nvr staying long enough for Light to speak to it

a vague impending sense of doom which prevails over the entire nightmare no matter the situation only to amount to nothing in the end except Light forgetting a dish is in the oven therefore setting off the smoke detectors and waking him at precisely 7am
