On this day in history I pretended to be engaged and tried on wedding dresses.
By the way the ranking is based on how much I like these *as a wedding dress*. My fashion sense is pretty versatile outside I think
Honorable mentions! I tried on a ballgown and a column dress because I think everything is worth trying, but I didn’t like them that much, so I did not walk out with them. Which meant no photos lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did like the ball gown more than the column dress, which I didn’t expect- but that was on account of the ball gown having an organza flower pattern and a sculpted neckline, while the column dress is the definition of plain. (The puffs on the neckline of the ball gown are removable, which is how I tried it). At the very least the ball gown made me feel special, but it also made me feel like I was getting ready for my quinceanera. I like ball gowns, and the column dress was flattering, but they weren’t my style. D-tier for me: God intended these for other brides
Tumblr media
I’m not about the minimalist-trend, BUT I looove a good power dress. I love the fabric twist in the center, the sleeves, the shoulders, the slit, and it shows off my tattoo!!! But I thought I would like it more than I did. I felt pretty damn good in it, but not like I was getting married. Maybe one day I’ll star in a Netflix soap opera and I’ll wear this. C-Tier.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love the asymmetric style and the slit on the side. It shows off my shoulder tattoo. And the train is gorgeous! The gathers in the fabric adds an elegant touch, and I love the way the sleeve drapes around and clips to the back. Plus I look SNATCHED. Add in some jewelry and a headpiece, and you won’t wonder who the bride is. I have no complaints, but it looks like the plainer version of what ends up being my favorite dress. B-tier
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ignore the clips. I LOVE the back on this dress, and that bead line going down the back makes it look very lovely and delicate. Plus, that dip in the front is perfect. You wouldn't even know there was illusion mesh there! And I love the way the skirt flares out. However, even when the stylist clipped me in, I feel like the lace wasn't serving. I didn't feel snatched. The cross-netting lace pattern makes me shapeless. In other words, it’s serving *table-cloth*. There were aspects I really adored, but I didn’t end up liking it as much as I thought I would. B-tier
I’m just about outside the 10-photo limit so I’m smacking you with part 2 in a minute. @turtle-ly also I need ALL YOUR THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS

Favorite Movie Costumes (pt. 1)
Recently got the line-up-your-toys urge to list and discuss my favorite tv and movie costumes-- my favorites are many and tumblr's image limit is low, so I'm not sure how many posts this'll eventually spread to, but here's the first crop.
The Queen's red gown - The Brother's Grimm
I don't think anyone on earth wanted to love this movie more than I did when it came out-- sadly, the film itself was generally a letdown. However, its costumes absolutely delivered, which should come as no surprise since they were designed by Gabriella Pescucci. The costumes for Monica Belluci's queen are my favorites of all, but this piece, the one she wears for most of the movie, may be my favorite costume of all time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The costume has several iterations; it's paired most prominently with her enormous horned headdress (my fave), but she also wears it with a more delicate tiara.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marianne de Morangias' red riding habit - Brotherhood of the Wolf
Although Brotherhood of the Wolf is far from a good movie, I have a terrible soft spot for it, which is mostly due to its wonderful costumes, including a crowd of hunting costumes throughout, none more gorgeous than the one Marianne's debuts during the film's first hunt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I probably owe my love of riding habits to American Girl's Felicity and her swoon-worthy green velvet habit-- they are sadly underused in movies (meanwhile Marianne not only wears this red habit, but also shows off an equally beautiful green one later.)
Tumblr media
Christine Daae's masquerade dress - The Phantom of the Opera
Fun fact, I watched this movie as a teenager (after falling in with the inescapable junior high theater nerd crowd, who tried unsuccessfully to use this as a gateway drug to getting me hooked on musicals), then forgot about the vast majority of the costumes, and stumbled upon it again years later without realizing it was from a movie and completely fell in love with it.
Tumblr media
I'm very fond of the early 1870s silhouette in general, long trains in particular, and the back of this one is what really sold me. The frothy layers of chiffon?? the flowers?? the graceful tiered bustle?? Obsessed. (Another fun fact, this is one of the references I always bring up when discussing potential wedding dresses.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imogen Spurnrose's red ensemble - Carnival Row
Tumblr media
I know, another red velvet number ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Imogen's wardrobe is full of lovely quasi-Victorian pieces, but this one had me GASPING when it came on screen. These pictures do not do the color or vibrancy of that jacket justice!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Geilis Duncan's white ballgown - Outlander
I'm usually not a fan of stripped down historical styles, especially ones this anachronistic, but something about the minimalist design of this dress just charmed me.
Tumblr media
It reminds of in some way of artistic undress in 17th century portraits, and the lightness of the colors and material has this clean, airy, almost White Lady quality to it, and the simplicity and limited accessorizing really brings out the period silhouette. (Also I adore lover's eyes).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vanessa Ives' lace blouse - Penny Dreadful
Vanessa has a gorgeous wardrobe (Gabriella Pescucci hitting it out of the park again) containing a number of delicate black and white blouses, but this one is my favorite.
Tumblr media
The design is not that complex, but the wealth of tiny details, especially the petal shaped blackworked collar and cuffs, give it a huge visual punch; paired with the decorative belt and beautiful black skirt it's a very unique look that shows off some of the most beautiful elements of the period (last photo courtesy @periodcostumefantasylover)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lorna's church dress - Lorna Doone
YES another red number. And what a red!! This miniseries is so obscure I had to do my own (butt ugly) screencaps off Youtube, but despite being a fairly modest production, they do some nice 17th century looks in it.
Tumblr media
This dress is glimpsed for a moment as Lorna catches sight of her separated lover through the crowd-- very dramatic, but unfortunately it means getting a good look at the beautiful dress is hard, but I did my best: here's the actual scene, if you want a better look (and I'd recommend the series, too!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Virginia Wilson's Worth dress - 1899
Big shock, the replica House of Worth dress made it in *Oprah shrug* I've adored the original dress for years, so I went nuts seeing it on the show! On top of just top tier everything, the costuming on 1899 was great, and the fact that they decided to throw this dress in was just the cherry on top.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are some minimal differences between this dress and its inspiration, most notably the change in pattern-- Virginia's dress not only incorporates the alchemical logo like all the rest of the characters, but the rounded edges in the original are all made jagged to match it, as you can really see in the last photo.

Modern Connie Wedding Dress HCs
Mermaid-style gowns, all the way. The style flatters her so well.
Also, the dress would be on the sleeker side. Connie is not a minimalist at all, haha, but I think she'd opt for a dress of stunning quality over something with all the 'bells and whistles.'
The fabric, cut and silhouette of the dress would do enough of the standing out without a lot of extra flourish or details. She'd definitely have a train, but again, of solid fabric.
No lace or frills. She's as girly as they get, but prefers 'simpler' clothes of amazing fabric and craftmanship rather than flourishes.
I picture her wearing a warmer shade of white, like 'eggshell' rather than paler, pure whites. However, the bright white would look good on her tan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's always found the concept of veils a tad...odd for her? Like, she finds the idea romantic, but it's not something she feels really works for her.
Diamond earrings for jewelry. Nothing else. Except the ring, of course.
If Connie's wedding had a mantra, it would be: "Quality over quantity."
Shoes? Crystalline. Like she's floating on stars. Glittery, but minimalist.
Bouquet? Schweinitz's sunflowers. Regular sunflowers would make for a...somewhat chaotic bouquet. Also, the flowers are fake, because these flowers are actually endangered. The more you know.

Note
Did you like Maria Laura of Belgium and Crown Princess Mette Marrit's wedding looks? Specifically asking these 2 cause they're both minimalistic non lacy looks.
Maria Laura: I like the gown itself, but the detachable train of a mismatched colour ruined it for me. And I don't think this gown suits ML very much and too much fuss has been added to the whole look.
Tumblr media
Mette-Marit: The design itself doesn't have too much appeal to me, but I think it suits MM. On the other hand, LOVE THE FABRIC!
Tumblr media
She really looked like she was walking on a cloud.

re-curated my wedding mood boards (even though I won't be getting married anytime soon)
first set of images depicts what i'd like for a wedding with loved ones: lots of color, confetti, and red as a central color scheme. second set of images depicts what i'd want for a civil ceremony, which would skew more black & white with soft blue as a central color scheme. (i also included some cool stuff... a custom wedding plate, a cake recipe, and rings i'd like.)
for dresses ive been really inspired by vintage gowns like that of grace kelly & elizabeth taylor. i was a fan of minimalist dresses for the longest but now i really love the idea of a high neck, long sleeve, regal gown. for a courthouse ceremony, i'd want something tea length with a full skirt and a coat (and a hat!)
anyway, i don't know if i will ever get married. ive been reflecting on my desire to do it and i think i more or less just like the idea of party planning, wearing beautiful dresses and receiving diamonds. at least i can make mood boards!

Sorry, but there is NO WAY in h*ll that delusional MM could have (successfully) worn any iteration of CBK's wedding dress lol! For those of us now-oldies-but-goodies who remember the actual event, that sleek, minimalist, bias-cut, figure-caressing gown was a lightning bolt of fashion change after the frou-frou frilly ott wedding fashion of the 80s (think Diana's gown!). However, CBK's height and slender, yet curvy, figure were essential for its dramatic success. MM has NONE of those gifts!
I agree.

Ankara Long Gown Styles 2023
Ankara's long gown styles are one of the most popular choices for African women's clothing. The Ankara fabric is known for its vibrant colours and patterns, which make it perfect for creating beautiful and stylish gowns. If you're looking for some inspiration on what to wear to your next special event, take a look at these Ankara long gown styles for 2023. One of the hottest trends in Ankara fabrics right now is bold prints. If you want to make a statement with your gown, opt for a dress with a large, floral print or an eye-catching geometric design. For a more understated look, choose a dress with smaller prints or solid-coloured fabric. Another popular trend is mixing and matching different colours and patterns. For example, you could pair a brightly-coloured Ankara top with a black skirt or pants. Or, try pairing two different prints together, such as a leopard print skirt with a striped top. This is a great way to add some personality to your outfit and make it truly unique. If you're looking for something truly original, consider having your dress custom-made using Ankara fabric. This is a great option if you can't find exactly what you're looking for off the rack. With custom-made dresses, you can choose your own colours, and patterns, and even add embellishments like beads or sequins.
Ankara Long Gowns for Special Occasions

Whether you're attending a wedding or a formal event, or simply want to make a fashion statement, there's an Ankara long gown out there for you. Tips for Wearing Ankara Long Gowns
- Rock Ankara Long Gowns with Confidence: The first step to looking great in any outfit is confidence. No matter what style you choose, make sure you walk with your head held high and shoulders back. This will instantly make you look 10 times better and feeling good in what you’re wearing always helps too! - Keep it Simple: Ankara long gowns are already a statement piece so there’s no need to go over the top with your accessories. Let the dress do the talking by keeping your jewellery and makeup relatively simple. A pair of nude heels or sandals will also complement the dress perfectly. - Consider Your Body Type: Not all styles of Ankara long gowns will suit every body type so it’s important to take this into consideration when choosing a dress. If you’re not sure which style will flatter you most, ask for help from a friend or sales assistant. - Be Comfortable: The last thing you want is to be tugging at your dress or feeling uncomfortable all night long. Choose a style that you know you’ll be able to wear without any issues and make sure it’s the right size too – nothing ruins a good outfit like an ill-fitting garment! -
Where to Buy Ankara Long Gowns
There are a few places to buy Ankara long gowns. The most popular is probably online. You can find a variety of styles and designs online. Another great place to buy Ankara long gowns is at your local African market. This is a great place to find traditional and modern styles. You can also find a variety of sizes at these markets. Finally, you can always go to a tailor and have a gown made specifically for you. Read the full article

What Does a Black Wedding Dress Mean?
Tumblr media
A black wedding dress means power, sophistication, and a way to express confidence and a strong sense of personal style. ♡ It also symbolizes mystery and elegance, perfect for adding a touch of drama to your wedding. ♡
Tumblr media
As white wedding dresses traditionally represent purity and innocence, you may think that black wedding dresses symbolize the opposite. Still, no, there is a lot of meaning behind a black dress. It also represents individuality and empowerment. Brides who want a bold, sensual, sophisticated, and high-class look prefer black wedding gowns over other colors.
Tumblr media
Is It Okay To Wear A Black Wedding Dress?
Yes, it is perfectly okay to wear a black wedding dress. In western cultures, more and more brides wear non-traditional wedding dresses that reflect their style and preferences.
Black wedding dresses are a stunning and sophisticated choice, especially for evening or winter weddings. They are an excellent option for brides who want a more unconventional or gothic-inspired look. Lots of unique wedding aesthetics call for a bit of black!
Ultimately, the most important thing is feeling comfortable and confident in your wedding dress, regardless of color.
Tumblr media
Where Do Black Wedding Dresses Come From?
Black wedding gowns have a fascinating history that dates back centuries. In Western culture, white wedding dresses became popular after Queen Victoria wore a white dress for her wedding in 1840. Before that, brides often wore colorful dresses, including black. They were trendy in the Victorian era, as mourning attire was usually black, and weddings were seen as a celebration of life and death.
The black wedding gown also has roots in gothic culture, where black is seen as a symbol of rebellion and individuality. In recent years, black wedding gowns have become popular among alternative brides who want to break away from tradition and express their unique style.
Tumblr media
Not only are black wedding dresses sleek and stylish, they're also very versatile and can easily be worn again and again long after you say "I do."
How can I accessorize my black wedding dress?
When it comes to choosing bridal accessories, let your personal style and wedding gown guide your decision. Minimalist brides may opt for delicate jewelry and monochromatic accessories while statement-making brides might be drawn to accessories in bold pops of color.
Can I wear a black wedding dress for my summer wedding?
Yes! Black is a highly versatile color and can work for all types of weddings. For a summer wedding, opt for a black wedding dress crafted from a light and airy fabric like cotton or linen and keep accessories simple and laid-back.
Tumblr media
Veil
Ask your bridal consultant if your black gown has a matching veil. If you're going custom, inquire with your designer if he or she can create a matching veil that incorporates black details or (dare we say) is entirely black! We also think a black birdcage veil is incredibly chic, dramatic, and slightly mysterious. If you're truly going nontraditional in all aspects, ditch the veil and opt for show-stopping jewelry. Gold and silver tones pop even more against the dark hue. Skip the necklace and go for chandelier drop-earrings for an elegant and elongating look. Or, slip on a stack of bracelets for another bold option. Long story short—the options are endless!

Note
The more I see if the gown the more I hate it. From the side, she has again that pointy chest problem going on that she had with her wedding dress too. The zipper on the back of her dress and belt are misaligned and it makes the belt look something just thrown at the last minute. I think she should've let go of belt altogether or else worn a thin belt. Maybe drop the choker and go for a beaded thin belt and just earings. As much as she's been copying MM she doesn't understand minimalist at all.
I think it was just a terrible and incoherent look all around. I looked at the website she rented the dress from, and that designer had some way better opinions to choose from.
And as much as I like that chocker on its own, the emeralds really don't jive well with the obnoxious slime green of the gown. I don't know what she was going for, but it wasn't the best look.

Wedding gown sleeves range from strapless to long sleeves and everything else in between. Choosing the right sleeves for you is determined by your personal style. Here we explain the most popular and user-friendly wedding dress sleeve styles offered by Vintage Blossom so you can get an idea of the looks you like before trying on bridal gowns!
Cap Sleeves
These sleeves may appear cutesy in the traditional sense, but when done with an illusion neckline or soft lace, they’re a chic way to add stability and coverage. A cap sleeve should only cover the shoulders and should not extend all the way under the arm.
Short Sleeves
These sleeves are a classic style for weddings in warmer weather and are extremely versatile. They provide full shoulder coverage, go all the way around the arm, and have a generous range of motion, similar to a short sleeve shirt or blouse.
¾ Length Sleeves
The quarter sleeve has made its way back into fashion season and creates a modern (and sometimes dramatic) look depending on the fabrication. A soft tulle sleeve will have a different feel than a structured 3/4 lace sleeve.
Long Sleeves
While some church venues require sleeves on the bride’s dress for the ceremony, long sleeves are a popular choice because they add a formal feel without being too much. They have become a hot bridal trend on the runways, whether worn to create a vintage vibe or a sexy silhouette.
Juliet Style Sleeves
Technically, this is a fitted long sleeve with a gathered puff at the shoulder. It’s a romantic style reminiscent of Renaissance fashion and Shakespeare.
Puff Sleeves
Puff sleeves have made a huge comeback in recent years. We are still drawn to puff sleeves despite all the things they represent: power, virtue, and romanticism. A puff is fitted at the bottom of the sleeve around the arm with elastic or a band to keep it in place in the short-sleeved version of the Juliet sleeve. When done correctly, this style is youthful and looks great in a lighter weight fabric.
Butterfly Sleeves
Butterfly sleeves are, as the name implies, short and loose flowing sleeves set at the top of the arm with little to no coverage underneath—they flutter! Butterfly sleeves, which were previously only seen on bridesmaid dresses, have made a comeback in bridal.
Bell Sleeves
As seen on the most recent Bridal Fashion Week runways, bell sleeves have emerged once again as a top trend. These sleeves flare out toward the wrist, giving them a very dramatic appearance and feel. Although most are long-sleeved, bell sleeves can also fall at the forearm or elbow.
Bishop Sleeves
These long, loose-fitting sleeves come to a tight cuff at the wrist, creating a flowy, whimsical effect. The Bishop sleeve has remained popular with bohemian and relaxed-styled weddings, retaining a sense of romance that brides fall in love with again and again.
Poet Sleeves
Poet sleeves, also known as flared or bell sleeves, are feminine and romantic while maintaining a youthful feel. These look great in soft lace or sheer fabrics.
Set-In Sleeves
The term “set-in sleeve” refers to a sleeve that is literally part of the bodice—there is no seam to separate each sleeve from the rest of the dress.
Raglan Sleeves
This modern style is more common in contemporary fashion than in bridal, but minimalist-style designs have been known to incorporate some unique elements, such as a raglan sleeve. The seams run from the underarm to the collarbone.
Tulip Sleeves
This short sleeve is inspired by the look of a tulip and is created when fabric wraps over itself at the top of the shoulder. These sleeves are more common in bridesmaid dress styles, but they can also be used to customize a dress to provide more coverage while adding a romantic touch.
Spaghetti Straps
These dainty details help support the bodice without actually covering the shoulders. They are easily added and removed and can be embellished to match the dress.
Bold Sleeves
Ever since Kate Middleton debuted her iconic long-sleeve wedding dress a decade ago, sleeves have made a huge comeback in the bridal fashion space (after being pushed aside for strapless and sweetheart necklines throughout the early 2000s). Now they’ll continue to trend into 2022, but instead of tight lace sleeves, billowing and voluminous styles will be two of the biggest bridal trends of the year. Prepare to see a lot of oversized, ’80s-inspired moments, like puff sleeves and angular shoulders. If you’re unsure about diving headfirst into this bold trend, bishop sleeves—sleeves that are loose for the length of the arm and fitted at the wrists—are a more understated option to try instead. Depending on the rest of the gown, bishop sleeves can give off a boho or classic vibe.
According to 2022 bridal trends, all bold sleeves such as bishop, puff, flared, and poet sleeves will make a comeback.
