Welcome to Atlanta - Mike Penix Jr!
Kirk Cousins is coming off an injury and we don’t have a solid number 2 QB on the team. Heineke has only 1 year left on his contract. Outside of Penix’s injuries from 2018-2021, he’s a top 5 pick in this years draft. Statistically, he has the most yards and attempts in CFP in 2022 and 2023. (Best since Mahommes in 2015-2016). He was also runner up for the Heisman trophy. If the Caleb hadn’t won last year and Jayden this year, they probably wouldn’t have been drafted higher. (No shade to those guys) Also, Heisman winners haven’t guaranteed winning seasons or championships in the NFL. (Mariota)
Penix Jr. has proven that the ACL is fully healed and that he can produce at high levels post surgery. Cousins has not.
Considering Cousin is only on a 4 year contract and aging out (36 years old), this pick represents a “best available” player and allows us to have someone in place to learn the new system with a very high upside.
Cousins was the best QB available in free agency this year. The decision to acquire was made with that in mind. Penix Jr. in the draft fell into our lap as “arguably”one of best QBs in CFP.
Also, his age (2-3 year older than the other drafted QBs) does not equate to longevity against players who will not sit behind another QB. Think mileage on a car that’s only driven locally and on weekends. The sooner these guys are on the field the soooner they begin their “wear and tear”.
Just my opinion…
I was surprised by this pick as much as everyone else. I just spent the last 3 hours researching it myself, to better understand why that was the best choice for Raheem, Terry, and the rest of the front office. I’m comfortable saying this was a very good pick. It’s ok if you disagree, drop it in the comments.

The Falcons are trying to be the Chiefs by taking a big QB prospect even with a proven starter on the roster. The difference is that Alex Smith was already there when Mahomes was drafted and the Falcons just signed Cousins to a pretty significant deal like a month ago. The Chiefs were already a pretty complete team with playoff potential, not so for Atlanta.
We’ll see if it works out but I’m not confident.

I actually REALLY like the Penix pick by the Falcons. I think he's one of the best qbs in the class and I personally have him over Maye and Daniels. Kirk is approaching the wrong side of 35 and coming off a huge injury, I thought it was wild that the Falcons signed him at all. So I think this is a really good pick for them and I like it a lot.

I wanted Penix before we got Kirk, and hoped we could get him in the 2nd round... but I wasn't surprised and know ball so I'm great tbh!
The same folks who wanted Matt gone lived a QB life that had Mariota, Ridder and Heinicke and wanna still complain... I hoped we could sneak back into the 1st and do something but we move.
I really don't think Kirk should care... if you are who you think you are then just go out there and ball out.

Michael Penix Jr. Might Be Raiders' Choice, But Buyer's Beware
There are signs pointing to the Raiders going after Michael Penix Jr.; if he's your guy, get him. Still, there are some red flags to be raised.
There are signs pointing to the Las Vegas Raiders going after Washington’s Michael Penix Jr.; if he’s your guy, get him. However, it’s important to be cautious.
General manager Tom Telesco has already made it clear that all options are on the table. In fact, he’s publicly stated that the Raiders will be aggressive in their draft day approach—it all just depends on how the chips fall on Thursday.…
