In regards to your headcannons list:
Sam Yao 16
HIII THANKS FOR SENDING AN ASK ehem okay here goes (this got long sorry)
16. Dark secrets/‘skeletons in the closet’
I have 4 things I think of in here so I’ll expand them >:) Some zrs2 and zr5k spoilers!
1. Sam gets attached to Runner Five because of his ties to the old Runner Five, Alice Dempsey. I feel like it starts like that at least. But the seasons and missions in it stretch out for months, so by the time the middle of s2 swings around I feel like Sam has worked that out (specially before the Little Lies mission in the s2 finale—his anger feels different there because it somehow really feels like it’s reserved for love and protectiveness of OUR Runner Five, and not just their number.) Don’t get me wrong though, he’s not the type to take rebounds and other people as replacement for his loss, and in zr5k i know he takes the time to heal and grieve (it’s heavily implied in there lol)—but Sam is a really emotionally driven character and I feel like him feeling affection for our runner five will be overshadowed by him losing Alice.
He’s also the type to not notice this until someone points it out. After that, he’ll think about it a lot. He won’t tell ANYBODY though. Not even whoever points it out for him (I’m thinking Maxine). He won’t elaborate and he’d rather fix it on his own instead of asking someone else and sounding like a fucking asshole since there’s really no nice way to say Hey, I think I’m starting to like this person but I keep seeing my ex in them bc of their designation so what do i do?
2. Feelings. Really deep feelings. I guess it’s not really dark but I think Sam would also hold off on telling Runner Five what he feels as long as he thinks he’s only infatuated because of Alice. Even after that—he takes a long time to show the mere tip of its iceberg. In my personal headcanon of events, Sam gets an inkling of “oh shit maybe I do like Runner Five and this isn’t just a silly infatuation anymore” when they get kidnapped in the Tightrope mission in s2. The Athena mission was honestly a shit end of that little arc bc the tone is ODD and Sam threw a fit in A Voice in the Dark but he’s knitting all chill and cool after they got tortured by Van Ark?? LMAO?? Also I was told the knitting is a reference to Odysseus’s wife waiting for him to come home and I’m just here like Hahaha s2s are you Saying he is the malewife YOU AINT SLICK
Anyway. That. And then he gets the scare of his life in the s2 finale when Sara is revealed to be the traitor—like, you can HEAR him sound so angry but also so so worried. He’d been friends with Eight longer than he knew Runner Five so Sam is well-versed with what Sara is capable of. He’d also seen it in the moments prior to this event. I personally think that when Sara cut him off of comms, his brain just went wild with worst case scenarios (haha here’s a song that makes me think of this) and it’s when he gets this dawning realization that he DOES have feelings. It’s real and oh so horrifying because it’s not that Sam doesn’t want to lose them, it’s that he can’t. He can’t afford to. Because god knows he’s hanging on a thin thread and if he loses another person he loves, he doesn’t know if he can keep going.
But he can’t say that for a million reasons; he can’t let Five know he depends on them that much, can’t let anyone know he originally started feeling this way because of their number, can’t let anyone know he’s not as optimistic and strong as he likes to seem. Apart from his affection for Runner Five, Sam keeps most of his emotions hidden under wraps because there’s rly no time to feel things in the apocalypse. I think he’d lie about it even if his actions and words betray him all the time. He doesn’t want to be seen as soft either and has somehow fooled himself into thinking that not outwardly showing his feelings equates to bravery or strength.
3. He feels alive as a Radio Operator and feels useless otherwise. I know he mentions this in AVITD but I wanted to expand on it! Sam forces himself to operate in the comms shack even when he was sick (this was a side mission in s2) and I think it’s because he sees this as his only purpose. Y’know how people say Everyone in Abel pulls their weight? And how some runners probably resent radio operators because of how they’re guiding them in safety while runners are out endanger their lives in the field? Yyyyeah. This guy probably overworks just to prove he’s pulling his own weight.
Basically; that thing that Sara said about feeling the most alive when running away from zombies, and that’s probably horrible or something? I think Sam is like that too, as a Radio Operator. He feels pride and confidence when his runners get home safely. He feels euphoric when he manages to help them evade a horde or an obstacle. And when he fucks up, he takes it twice as hard because it proves that he sucks at his job and isn’t doing enough. But he’s also afraid that if anyone knew that he feels this—like he said to Runner Five, that he loves what he does—everyone would think he’s a psychopath playing video game dolls with real people’s lives whatsoever and likes it.
4. Lastly, he would kill if it meant he could keep his loved ones safe. Sam is generally a kind-hearted person but he goes ruthless and CRUEL when it comes to people who betray his own. Y’all remember Ephraim? Yeah? He told Eight and Five to dump his ass to die since he betrayed them before. He was especially fucking cruel to Nadia for trying to kill Five. Yeah. I deadass think this guy would stab someone a billion times if it means his friends would make it. And catch this; the someone also includes himself.

NEW TRAILER!!!! THOUGHTS????
hi, @jjnora!
so aside from just a lot of internal screaming because HAPPILY MARRIED GSR, HAPPILY MARRIED GSR!!!!!!!!!, here is my rundown:
per some previous musings, it is seeming more and more like brass is the one who originally gets grissom and sara back to vegas, perhaps because brass himself has either been implicated in the fabrication case—he may be the party to whom the "you either made an error or you were a party to criminal malfeasance" line is originally directed—or else has been targeted by the criminal(s) behind it.
whether or not grissom and sara are also potentially implicated in the case, we don't yet know; it's possible that they, like brass or perhaps in conjunction with him, could be the objects of the "criminal malfeasance" charge. however, if so, then it would seem that they are quickly cleared of any suspicion, as they soon start working the case alongside maxine roby and her team.
i have to say: i am somewhat worried at this point that brass may be killed off in service to this storyline. knowing that paul guilfoyle is only set to guest-star in the first two episodes, one has to wonder why brass isn't sticking around for longer. does he simply wrap whatever involvement he has in the case at that point, or is there a more sinister explanation for his abrupt departure from the show? not only do we see brass engaged in hand-to-hand combat with an armed assailant, but then there's also that ominous "jim brass is just the beginning" message we see written on the typewriter. add on this gsr hug, which looks potentially like an "i need comfort because i just got some very bad news" situation, and, suffice it to say, i'm nervous. i would hope tptb wouldn't kill off such a beloved old character, but, then again, they might do so in order to get grissom and sara invested in this work again.
speaking of which: we now know from the tv guide interview that while sara has maintained her csi certification over the last six years, grissom has not, though he does eventually join the investigation in the capacity of a consultant. whether or not both grissom and sara will be eager to jump back into the field of criminalistics after so long spent away will be interesting to see. based on maxine roby's choice of words when she asks them to rejoin the lab ("do you think i could persuade you to come back to csi?"), i think it's at least possible that one or both of them might be reluctant to sign back on, particularly in a full-time capacity. if so, then their hesitancy may be due to any number of reasons. for instance, maybe they're just attached to the work they've been doing and the life they've been living for the last six years since the events of "immortality." alternatively, maybe they feel like they've been "out of the game" for too long and they're too out-of-touch to get back in now. maybe they're afraid because this case is a dangerous one, and particularly if whomever is behind the fabrication is directly targeting them and their loved ones. maybe they have something going on in their lives that makes it so they feel that they cannot or at least should not involve themselves in what's going on. while it's possible that they'll both feel compelled to join this investigation and see the necessity in doing so from the start, it's also very possible that they might have to be convinced. if so, then brass's death could potentially be the thing to convince them.
again, based on the tv guide article, we know that the fabrication case spans the duration of the season, so it'll be interesting to see how the writers handle revisiting old cases (presumably) at the same time that the team must also take on new ones. will there be one or more throwback cases per episode? will grissom and sara be relegated to working only on those investigations (or will they also work on new incoming investigations, as well)? while many of the shots in this trailer look like they could potentially hearken back to old cases—for instance, the shot of the fountain with the body floating in it could be a throwback to the case in episode 05x05 "swap meet”—it's also possible that they're their own bag. as there are supposedly "thousands" of old cases on the line, one would expect there to be a lot of throwback material, but it remains to be seen how said material will be incorporated.
in any case, whether the grissoms—and, heads up, i am going to be calling them that, and, no, i'm not sorry about it—are initially reluctant to join the case or not and regardless of if they're originally focused only on their old cases or they're involved in new ones, it seems like they'll see plenty of action, considering that we get glimpses of sara chasing after someone (potentially a suspect) down the strip and even diving bodily through traffic to catch up to them.
that girl has a whole-ass harvard education and is still gonna get herself hit by a car, smh.
—and they'll also give us plenty of wonderful, amazing, old-married-couple pda.
i mean, [stefon voice] this trailer has EVERYTHING: happy, casual handholding; emotional embraces; smirky little smiles; wife moves; husband moves; joy olakodun; DARLIN'?!; wandering hands because she just needs to touch him; brass hanging out in the grissoms's hotel room; WEDDING RINGS?!; whole conversations had only with expressive eyebrow movements; toasting drinks in a penthouse suite; stupidly synchronized movements; "our lab;" "our life's work;" flirting; two idiot married geniuses. it's AMAZING!
if they showed us so much casual intimacy between grissom and sara in a one-minute trailer spot, methinks we can probably expect these kind of displays on the reg in the episodes—and hopefully also some of the "edgier" stuff jorja teased in the tv guide interview, as well.
i mean, lord knows the whole fandom's gonna die if they just kiss, let alone do anything "more."
aside from the pda stuff, i'm also just really happy to see that grissom and sara look UNITED. there's all sorts of nonverbal communication happening between them, and they just seem really in sync. it's gonna be wild to get to see them operating openly as a married couple in the same space (and especially considering that we've never really gotten that with them before). i, for one, am very much looking forward to it.
obviously, there's still a lot that we don't know and many blanks to be filled in, but i think this trailer has given us a better idea of what kind of show this will be and especially of how grissom and sara are going to be presented as a couple. the story cues and character dynamics we've seen so far are definitely intriguing.
here's looking forward to october!

Ships I have where the actors ship them harder than anyone else:
GSR - Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle from CSI, played by William Petersen and Jorja Fox
Riker-Troi/Imzadi - Will Riker and Deanna Troi from Star Trek: The Next Generation, played by Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis
The ships work and are believable to the audience because the people portraying these characters believe in their relationship. It's lovely.

Touch Me, Trust Me [Touch-Starved] - POTOber Prompt, Erik Destler (Gerard Butler) x Reader
(A/N:  This is a story I'm submitting for day 6 of POTOber on Tumblr, hosted by @coatntails .  The prompt is Touch Me, Trust Me, and the assisting suggestions are Touch Starved/Hunger/Lust. Linked below is the prompt list.)
You walked down the winding staircase to the catacombs of the Opera House, making your way to your daily meeting with your boyfriend, Erik. From just a quarter of the way down the stairs, you could hear his aggressive organ music; he must have been very angry. Concerned, you kept on walking, unafraid of approaching him because you knew that despite how...conspicuously Erik's rage always manifested, he would never, ever lay a hand on those he loved. You completed the journey in due time. You walked up beside Erik to see if he would acknowledge you; he did not. He never stopped playing, and did not so much as glance at you. But he did not growl at you to leave either, which meant you were welcome in his space. He also played his keys softer; though they never faltered in intensity, the overall volume was lessened. You smiled at his consideration of your ears.
After a little longer, you put a hand on his back. As if a switch had been flipped, his fingers froze and his body jerked up slightly, which you felt. You could feel that his back was tensed up, and from the looks of his shoulders, they were as well, because he was expectant of you to give explanation for your action. Slowly, he turned his head to look at you at last, confusion in his eyes. You offered him a small but affectionate smile. "What's the matter?" you asked softly, in case any indelicacy on your part would make him uncomfortable.
You saw his eyebrows begin to frown sadly before he looked away from you, hanging his head and tilting it to the side. "It's nothing..." His voice was even softer than yours, because it was hesitant and sad.
You let out a huff through your nose - never in a million years would you believe that.  Without a warning, you stepped towards him, murmured a, "Come here," and wrapped your arms around him, pulling him into you until he was turned to you and your fronts were pressed against each other.  You had both arms around his waist and were pressing the side of your head into his chest, your eyes open because it was your turn to anticipate his reaction.  For a few moments, he froze up again, his arms out to the side, forearms towards his front.
Gradually, jaggedly, his arms lowered, and they were placed around you tentatively as he got a feel for his emotional response to your embrace.  As he became more sure of what he wanted, he gently pulled you, still embracing you, to his sofa.  Briefly, very briefly, he let go so that he could sit down and pulled you onto his lap.  Immediately, his arms made their way to your back and upwards so that he could grip your shoulders from behind, and you had your arms around his upper back, one hand rubbing up and down his back.  He buried his face in the top of your shoulder, rubbing his face against it until his mask loosened and fell off his face, dropping to the floor with a slight clatter.  With his mask off, he comfortably pushed his face into your shoulder.  His fingers were digging into your skin and burned a little, but that was alright; he was desperate for your touch, for your comfort.  You had hugged and kissed him many times before, but no matter how much physical affection you gave him, he still absorbed it like a starving man everytime you touched him - and you always understood why, always happily held him, and never rejected him.
When you felt tears soak through your shirt, you turned your head and kissed the side of his.  "It's okay..." you whispered, sliding your hand up into his hair and rubbing his head, your other hand rubbing his back, neither of you caring that you pushed the wig off.
He merely gripped you tightly and cried into your shoulder, needing you.  You heard soft, miserable whimpers...poor Erik.  He removed one of his hands and took the arm of yours whose hand was on his back.  He guided it underneath his jacket, so that you rubbed him through his shirt.  As he was about to reach for your other arm, you moved your hand yourself.  However, you heard him murmur, "Under my shirt..."
You did as he requested; you untucked his shirt from his trousers and put your hands on the skin of his lower back; he let out such a loud relieved sigh, and you even felt his body relaxing.  Aside from his skin, you could feel the multitude of scars and old wounds he had on his back, the extent and positions of which you had memorised from the many times you had seen and traced them.  While you slid one of your hands further up his back, the fingers of the other began to trace his scars.  With each progression of movement your hand and fingers made he tensed and immediately relaxed, sighing shakily everytime.  You closed your eyes and kissed his head again.  "You want more?" you whispered.  He knew what you meant; he had you do it a lot of the times he was in a bad mental space and needed you to soothe him.  So you both stood up, and walked to his bed (the proper one).  As Erik walked, he took off his shirt and jacket, not caring that they dropped onto the floor, and then he let himself fall face down onto his bed.  You sat down beside him and picked up where you left off with tracing his scars, with both hands this time.  He let out a loud groan, mixed with relief and frustration.  But he was not crying anymore, which meant that he was feeling a bit better.  You kept doing it, moving to kiss along his scars as well, following the movements of one of your hands.  You made sure that he felt comforted and knew that he was loved.
After a while, you noticed that Erik was no longer responding to the stimuli.  Instead, his back rose and fell steadily with his slow breaths.  You checked his face, and saw that he was asleep.  You smiled fondly; his emotions must have taken a lot out of him.  You lay down beside him.  In his sleep, he scooted over to you and curled into your side.  You gladly held him, being gentle so as not to wake him up.  Though you did not fall asleep yourself, you closed your eyes and rested, appreciating the silence, peace, and most of all, the presence and company of the man beside you.

It’s my Runner Five’s (and my) birthday!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
So to celebrate here’s part 2 of the Five’s birthday headcanons- this time its Five’s first birthday at Abel:
Maxine is the first one to notice Five’s birthday is coming up when she’s reading up on the runners medical files.
She lets it slip to Sam, Sam immediately is like we need to make Five feel appreciated and welcome and to celebrate her birthday. So they’re definitely throwing a party.
Simon, Jody, Jack and Eugene are on board immediately, Sara (who is still being suspicious of Five at this point) agrees more reluctantly to help.
Janine finds out through Simon but she tells them as long as they don’t use up too many of the resources and do it sensibly then she’s not going to stop them from celebrating and it’ll be good for morale, so she’s on board as well.
Sam spends ages trying to find a gift, because a) he wants to make Five feel welcome to Abel as she’s still struggling a little with the adjustment. B) he wants to be a good friend, C) he may be unknowingly developing feelings for her (this is during early season 1 so before they get together and before either of them realise their feelings for each other) D) it’s surprisingly difficult to find a gift in the Apocalypse.
In the end he finds a photo that one of the runners took of the two of them on a disposable camera, catching Five laughing for the first time at a stupid pun that Sam had said. He also somehow finds an old broken worn down wooden photo frame to put it in.
Sam works on his gift. In fact he puts more effort in than he’d been intending to, fixing the frame with super glue, and painting the frame Five’s favourite colour (TARDIS blue- or as near as).
Sara organises the alcohol (because there’s got to be alcohol), Simon and Jody help organise the cake and decorations (although Simon wanted to sort the music) and Jack and Eugene are of course in charge of music.
On the day, everyone acts like normal, as does Five, thinking it’s just a normal day, no point in celebrating her birthday if her family aren’t there and she genuinely doesn’t know everyone knows it’s her birthday as she hasn’t mentioned it to anyone.
Sam and Sara distract her whilst on a supply run, whilst the rest of Abel get everything ready, Janine supervising everything of course.
When Sara and Five return, Sara leads her to where they’ve set up the party under the guise that Janine wants to see her.
Everyone jumps out at Five and Five just starts crying out of surprise, causing her to get the first Sam hug of the day.
Presents: Jody gives her a knitted scarf (that is a much shorter, Zombie safe, version of The fourth Doctor’s scarf), Simon gives her a bunch of alcohol (citing they’re totally going to get wasted at some point), Sara gives her her first gun and tells her she’ll teach her how to use it, Janine doesn’t get her anything (as she was unable to) but writes her a card, Maxine gets her a book and Jack and Eugene gives her a cd they’d found of the Doctor Who series 4 soundtrack.
Then Sam’s gift. Sam is a little bit embarrassed and starts saying that it’s not much and starts rambling- Five opens it and smiles the biggest smile ever, and kisses his cheek as a thank you- Sam goes bright red and everyone laughs knowingly at Sam’s reaction (everyone knows about Sam’s growing feelings), although Five doesn’t think much of it and is too busy loving the picture. She later says she’ll put it up in her room (it resides on her bed side table and even survives the explosion and destruction of Abel at the end of S1, it’s one of the few objects that I imagine stays with five all the way through ZR).
Then the partying and food begins.
The cake is chocolate (Five had mentioned her favourite cake was chocolate cake in a conversation with Sam once) and Five is genuinely surprised that he remembered and that there is still a thing as chocolate cake! (There’s some left over, and Five eats it all the next day with Sam and anyone else who wants some)
Taylor Swift is on the music (22- as it’s her 22nd birthday, they think it’s hilarious) as is ABBA (of course), David Bowie, Busted, Mcfly and pretty much just about anything else Eugene and Jack could find (even some some original Doctor Who songs from the series 2 and 3 soundtracks - its the Song for Ten and The Stowaway- which they don’t realise or forgot are from Doctor Who until Five starts singing along to them at the party, taking everyone by surprise)
They all party until the sun comes up the next morning.
Everyone’s having a good time, Five doesn’t say much (except to Sam, who is the only one she talks to at that point) but everyone knows she’s happy and thankful and they don’t need to be thanked.
Everyone points out that Sam organised everything but he doesn’t take credit for it but Five hugs Sam tightly.
Five’s not one for dancing but she does. She dances with her friends.
It’s at this point that Abel begins to sort of feel like a second home and her friends start to feel like family.
It’s the first time she’s properly happy since the start of the apocalypse.

JAMIE SKEET
Lmao so I had sort of unofficially stopped but you know what - I love Jamie so had to draw him and Five 💕
@endless-fluffering I am SO SORRY this took so long! I was trying to force myself to finish some crappy WIPs before I started and that took a lot longer than I expected 😭💕💕
Info below the cut for tidiness!
Season 2
Jamie Skeet meets Five and... isn’t really that impressed by them.
I mean, they’re a runner. But so are a lot of people. And this runner doesn’t seem at all special at first glance. They’re quiet and sort of small. Quite honestly, they look like they’re the kind of runner who’d either get kidnapped or eaten within a few weeks.
He doesn’t really speak much to them at first. The only time he really sees them is on runs with Archie, and Archie talks enough to distract most of the attention from them. Still, he gets a better idea of their personality on these runs. He sees their grins, and how they wrinkle their nose with laughter, and its only after the third run together that Jamie’s like “wait - you can’t talk?!”
Everyone just assumed that he knew but Archie talks about them and their conversations without actually explaining that it’s mostly done via BSL. And Five is always so focussed on runs that BSL is rare during them.
A lot of what he knows about them is from Archie, and quite honestly he doubts half the stuff she says. Its not that he thinks Archie’s lying. But hearing about how they survived a helicopter crash, then immediately went on to run 5k leaves him doubtful. Hearing about how they (S2M1)  jumped from one skyscraper to another, (S2M4) or survived the Dedlocks, or (S1M7) survived a night outside Abel alone is hard to believe, especially when he sees them trip on their own laces, or catch them waddling along after a line of ducklings, grinning like a little kid.
He decides this whole ‘Runner Five’ thing is propaganda, keeping the people happy with rumours of some sort of superhero facing off against the apocalypse.
Spoilers S2M18: Jamie doesn’t really see what Five’s really like until Archie’s in danger. And it’s like whiplash seeing this goofy kid turn into some sort of agent for Abel. When Archie is shot, he’s horrified, but they order him (with sharp, easy to understand jestures) to stay there whilst they go and check if she’s alive. He argues. He threatens them. He even attempts to shove them aside. But they stand firm, and he’s shocked by their strength. Five is ready to fight him if needed, and they’re confident they can take him after all that training with Sara. Finally, he reluctantly agrees to let them go check on the body.
Spoilers S2M18: Five is sick after emerging from that room, and how quiet they are as they sob is a little unsettling. They’re both picked up and taken home to recover. Jamie spends most of the night in the hospital tent ranting that he would personally kill Van Ark for what he did. He expects Five to talk him down, but the fury in their eyes is a shock. Five nods, insisting they would too. They wouldn’t stop until Van Ark feels the pain Archie did. Once again, Jamie’s unsettled. But he can see they’re serious. It’s seeing that expression on their face that he realises that all the Runner Five rumours are 100% true, and Five is not someone he should get on the wrong side of .
After that mission, they sort of become closer. Five regularly drops in unexpectedly to help him with the kids. Which he half wishes they didn’t because honestly he has enough children to keep an eye on without Five adding to those numbers.
He’s surprised to see how good they are with them though. They always seem to know whats wrong, how to defuse a heated situation, how to comfort those who need it.
Jamie has never been told about the Mildred Vann De Graaf situation so he has no idea why Five brings back so many chicken toys and photos and ornaments. He gets the vague notion it has something to do with Archie though so he appriciates it, always thanking them and earning a big smile in return.
Jamie and Five run more together, and they’re quite the team. Though, there’s more than one occasion when Jamie’s had to pick Five up, throw them over his shoulder and get them out of danger. There’s more occasions when he finds Five distracted by something fun - toys, movies, games. He usually has to grab them and carry them out of there so they don’t waste so much time.
Once it happened after finding Five elbow deep in a bucket of glitter they found in an arts and crafts shop. He stil finds glitter everywhere.
He seriously considers finding one of those child leashes for Five, until Maxine points out why its a bad idea.
Despite how hot headed and impatient Jamie seems, both of them are super fond of each other. It is mostly down to their combined love of Archie, but they know they can rely on each other, and Jamie hates Five a lot less than a bunch of other people, so he doesn’t mind them hanging around.
Season 3
Spoilers for S3M7: The moment Jamie is delcared the rightful king of England, Five is delighted for him. They instantly salute him, and his name sign changes from the letter ‘J’ to the sign for ‘king’. He doesn’t mind it much, because he sees their teasing grin whenever they use it.
When he leaves for london, he’s surprised to find he’s a little disappointed that he won’t be able to hang out with Five anymore. Part of him hopes they’ll follow and work as security for him. But he understands that they’re needed at Abel.

Remember A Few Months Ago?
"What?" Terry asked looking at his younger brother Ace stood intensely. "Yeah what of it?"
"You told me we were here for space. Was that a lie?" He asks looking up at him he hears he was angry but couldn't see it his eyes hidden by black glass.
"No." He said trying to sound as normal as possible. It wasn't a lie more of a half-truth as it was reason number two.
"Then what was that scene you made at the Fizzes party? You said you didn't know him."
"I don't!" Terry's mind completely slipped on the fact that Ace saw him out Fernando on his bullshit.
"You know Estaban!" He says annoyed that yet again Terry was treating him like a child.
Your always like this. They both thought annoyed.
"Steve." He corrects rubbing his head. He looked at the clock 1 pm. He can't send him to bed or even tell him to go do something.
"Look this is something we can't talk about because of-"
"Mom?" He says getting closer. "Did she die because-"
"She died of bad health." He snaps annoyed now. "And a lot of factors played into that."
"One of them was the Fizzes?"
"Ace-"
"Terry, please just tell-"
"Alejandro!" He snaps as Ace frowned. "Just let me take care if this okay?"
"Fine." He snaps leaving. "I'll just be left in the dark like always."
"Ace-" His door slammed like an angsty teen.
"This family." He says thinking back on Rose's words.
"This family can be a bit much sometimes. More so now that you too are a part of it."
"I mean no offense." She said quickly realizing what it sounded like. "I just-"
"I get it." He had smiled knowing it was true.
"Ace am going out okay?" He said knocking on the door. "Leave a note and you can co do whatever."
He knew he was in there. He had shut the windows from the outside last night as they were leaving and didn't want something coming in like last year.
Terry quickly showered put on some clothes and took with him his bag putting his letters. He needed to know if he could move with all that's going on or if it would look bad and make sure he had enough money to move back.
The bank was a long walk and Terry felt like he could use it to clear his head on what went down earlier. He wondered how fast the news would flood to other people.
They were a hundred people at that party everyone saw it not doubts- His train of thought stopped abruptly when a realization bounced off.
Ace was at that party he saw me go off on them. The Fizzes house was a long drive that's why I flew they were having a party early to make sure everyone could come. Why the fuck did I not make that connection?!
He quickly took out his phone as he stopped a block or two before making it he need to make sure Ace was okay and well.
Fine. Am going to Valeries be back later.
He must be thinking that I lied. I have in some degrees but it was only for his best.
But who are you to decide that?
As that snapped him out of it Terry's ears heard something a few blocks away.
"Did Steve ever say anything?" A girl named Maxine asked. "Like he got slapped into a wall!"
"Isn't he mad?" Andria her best friend scoffed. "Of course he is. He just ruined his parent's marriage and slapped him for no reason."
"Terry's never reliable anyway he's always slacking off and being rude. He's bound to fight him." Andria said clicking away at her phone.
Like some over glorified child abuser can take me. He thinks ever since he came into the show the teens haven't won any awards he hasn't gotten.
"And it's so unfair how he so perfect for everyone else! All the villains love him and hate us! None of them know how shitty he is-"
Terry smirked as Maxine made eye contact with him.
"Oh really now?" He says looking them up and down. "What's Stevie boy gonna do?" He laughs when they don't say anything back.
"Funny." He says walking away he always hated the cheerleaders. Ever since Sara told everyone he broke up with her through a text they hated him he hadn't though. They hated him just like he hated his bank statement three thousand looked back at him mocking him.
It was enough to fly back home but not too to pay for anything relating to his case he needed to call his family lawyer and ask.
"Hey, Terry." Her voice proclaimed as papers were being moved. "Gald you phoned did you hear that your case is being challenged by Fernando Fizz?"
"Yeah. Just got the letters. You need those?"
"Yeah. And I need you to come here as fast as you can to work this out. Your case was already as tricky as it is. With Ace's bio father wanting custody and you being a teen he might win."
"Can't I sue him back? He says annoyed. "He owes thousands of child support-"
"Trust me I know but your mother never made a case she-"
"Died before she could make one." He finished somberly his ears started to ring.
"...Yeah." She answers back knowing it was a sore subject. "Does Ace know?"
"For the most part some of it yeah. I need to sit him down first."
"Okay then. We have two weeks before summer ends I think you should tell him and come deal with this."
"Okay." He sighs. He never thought he'd have to tell Ace like this he wanted to wait until he asked again or was eighteen.
"Okay, Terry just go bake a pie for something." He tried calming himself his mom use to do the same thing and he picked it up somehow.
He had enough food to spare for one plus he needed to talk about everything with Ace.
He has the right to know his family. Whether it not their bad people and I can't say much either.
The walk was shorter as he got the fruit and went to check it out. He should be back in no one swipe.
"Did you hear that Ferna has an affair kid?"
Oh my fucking God. He thinks knowing what was going on.
"No."  A make whispered hearing his wife.
"Yeah, some teen came up in the party about child support money he owes her."
"He cheated with a teen?" His mouth opened in shock. "On Rose?"
"She seems fine with it she spent a few hours talking with her. She threw him into the pool."
"Oh my goodness where did you learn this?"
"It's all the guests are talking about. My friend heard it from her daughter. All the girls won't stop talking."
"How's Steve the poor baby."
The only thing they got right is that he's a baby. He looks over as the lady scanned one last item.
"Don't know he did get slapped into a wall. He's definitely hurt psychically if not emotionally."
"Wow. What are they gonna do?"
"Next person sir." She said as the person in front left.
He got out of there quickly not wanting to know more. He didn't think it was spread so quickly it had only been four hours.
He breathed deeply when he got home Ace's door was open meaning he was gone.
Do I have to leave him here? He might choose to stay here.
No, he wouldn't.  He might Nigel is here he closer with the friends he has here.
Rose and Fernando could provide for him better than I ever could. They're loaded with money and have millions saved up I don't even have enough to challenge his case.
What if he does win? What would he do?
Ace might not want to see me after I lied he might hate me if he doesn't already.
Moms probably rolling in her grave. She must be pissed I didn't keep my agreement. Am handing him over to the people that killed her.
What if they kill Ace? What if he ends up hurt?
Stevens just like his father he might.
Then am going to be alone then am going to be responsible and then I have to live with that guilt.
Am I going to even have money to pay for the change?
"Please come to me if you need anything." Roses words came back to him.
"Could I really ask though?" He says to one he looks back to the clock 3 pm he heard something.
Ace wouldn't come back for an hour or more who the fuck was that?
He quickly went to get it hoping it was him he got the man of the hour himself.
Steven Fizz with a banged-up cheek.
He slammed the door. Not today no fucking way.
"Terry come on!" He says banging on the door. "Can we talk?"
"No!" He yells from the kitchen. "Get out!"
"Why do you have to be like this?! Can we not have a talk person to person?!"
"Fuck you!" He yells back. "Get the fuck out!"
"Terry." He says to the door he sounds more disappointed than angry.
"Estaban." He says rolling up the curtains of the window. He loved the way his face looked when he called him his real name he smirked like an evil character.
"Terry, can we talk?"
"We are aren't we?"
"Face to face."
"We are aren't we?" He says like a broken record.
"Fine. The boy I helped in the hospital was that Ace?"
"No."
"Your lying. I saw him at the party talking with Nigel. Is he in the knd?"
"No." That was actually the truth.
"Are you going to be like this the whole time?"
"Yes."
Steve sighed running a hand through his hair. "My dad won't say anything and my mom was the one who talked to you-"
"And it was confidential. It doesn't concern you."
"It kinda did when you-"
"Your father ruined everything, not me." He butts in knowing where it was going.
"Ruined the party by outing my BS." He continues. "I have a half brother?"
"Yeah." He confirms after a long pause. He looks at the clock ten minutes had passed he should get this done by then.
"How old is he?"
"He's not a baby." He sasses he noticed the way he easses up as if he was no longer stressed.
"Can I talk to him?"
"No."
"Terry-"
"He's not here. He's at his friends house." He didn't know if that was true Ace was all over the place sometimes.
Steve nodded thinking. He needed something to know his mom just said not to worry about it. His dad was worse
"When is he coming back?"
"Don't know."
"He looks nothing like my dad. He looks more like me surprisingly." He laughs trying to get Terry to ease up. "Your siblings it's natural."
"Do we have anything in common besides good looks?"
"Funny," Terry smirks looking for an exit.
"I got a pie in the oven you should go."
"Can you at least tell me when we could talk?" Terry opened the door surprised. Steve shifted back thinking he was going to get slapped only for Terry to walk past him.
Steve looked back and saw the boy he met in the hospital. He seemed perfectly fine from when he first saw him. He smiled seeing Terrace bend down and hug him Ace protested when Terry kissed his face.
"Wait here," Terry said as he brought the boy into the house.

My Black Mirror Episode Rankings
One of the great things about Black Mirror is how varied your experience with the show will inevitably be compared to others, in terms of which episodes you connected greater with. My opinions are always shifting and changing with rewatches and with time to reflect.
That being said, here’s my spoiler free personal ranking of every episode of Black Mirror so far from least to most favourite (up to “Bandersnatch”):
20. The Waldo Moment
Still better than the majority of television out there with some clever concepts, this installment lacked truly engaging characters and at times felt too satirical to be plausible.
19. Men Against Fire
Similarly to The Waldo Moment, this episode suffered from underwritten leads and felt overly reliant on a twist, which is disappointingly obvious considering how well the show executed twists elsewhere.
18. Arkangel
I love a lot of things about Arkangel (including Rosemarie DeWitt’s underrated and amazing performance) but was slightly let down by the bizarre casting of Brenna Harding as a 15 year-old Sara as she looks at least 25, dulling the impact. It also skims over a potentially interesting debate about censorship during child development and instead goes with a fairly bland ending with a jarring sudden tone shift that feels dark for the sake of it.
17. Black Museum
Letitia Wright is the bright spot in an otherwise frustrating episode. It feels like a poor imitator of White Christmas and copies lots from its predecessor, it’s concepts feeling either recycled from better episodes or not delved deep enough into. That said it’s one of the most darkly funny installments and has lots of fun with its setup.
16. Playtest
Something about the way Playtest wrapped up left me wanting either a more simplified or more knowingly trippy ending. Other than that this is a solid episode with a great sense of atmosphere and dread.
15. The Entire History Of You
An episode that I often hear is amongst people’s favorites, I’ve never been fully thrilled by this early episode. Its central concept is one of the most eerily plausible and there’s a strong ensemble of actors however in my opinion it comes across as paint-by-numbers in comparison to other episodes.
14. The National Anthem
From this point all the episodes are amongst my favourites and ranking them was highly difficult. Iconic 👏🏻 episode 👏🏻. Once you’ve seen it however it does feel a lot less impressive than some of Black Mirror’s later hits, but is still a great starting point for the show and peak satire.
13. Crocodile
With a mixed reception on release, I think Crocodile is a lot better than the response to season 4 would have you believe, working better as a grounded thriller than a parable on technology. Its two central characters were beautifully conceived and played by Andrea Riseborough and Kiran Sonia Sawar (one to watch out for in the future). Recalling shocking moments from Breaking Bad at times, its bleak tone and gradually increasing tension left me severely shaken up and I actually quite enjoyed the controversial final twist.
12. Hated in the Nation
Whilst veering slightly too harshly into implausibility at times, I loved the Luther-esque police drama format and theming of this episode. Kelly MacDonald is a delight and the debate over twitter witchhunts has only become more potent since its release.
11. Hang the DJ
Joe Cole and Georgina Campbell are surely headed for great things, their effortless chemistry making this one of the most satisfying and enjoyable entries, in what feels like Black Mirror’s take on “The Lobster”. Also bonus points for an ending that leaves you unsure how to feel about what you’ve just seen.
10. Shut Up And Dance
Another episode that became an instant classic, Shut Up and Dance (led brilliantly by Alex Lawther) is a throwback to the gritty Channel 4 vibe of the pre-Netflix era. It goes out of its way to be as upsetting as possible, only heightened by the fact that the technology exists for this to occur in this very day and age. It’s final revelation and scene set to “Exit Music (For A Film)” is chilling stuff.
Tumblr media
9. Metalhead
An episode I love that the majority seem to hate, I adore the stripped back quality to this episode, in a season that kept trying to trick me with plot twists. Maxine Peake is wonderful as always, instilling incredible depth to a character that barely speaks and there was a powerful sense of tragedy, my heart breaking for the world we live in and the future that awaits us.
Tumblr media
8. White Bear
Another staple episode, everything is perfectly judged and the writing is amongst the best the show has ever done. Arguably the most memorable episode and one that demands you to discuss it afterward.
Tumblr media
7. Be Right Back
This episode feels truly unique amongst the Black Mirror cannon, an intimate portrait of grief with some unsettling technological twists. Hayley Atwell and Domhnall Gleason give performances at home amongst “awards movies” and the episode is painfully grounded.
Tumblr media
6. Bandersnatch
This interactive episode will inevitably create varied opinions based on each audience member’s experience. Personally, I was profoundly shaken at seeing my choices occur on screen and felt horribly guilty and twisted for what occurred as a result, as the choices became increasingly higher stakes. It also helped that I saw the ending that I believe was most satisfying as a conclusion thematically (the ending with an epilogue in the present day). That said, this episode is also amazing fun to rewatch and discover new strands which vary from hilarious to heart wrenching. Also Fionn Whitehead and Will Poulter are incredible for nailing multiple character arcs at once.
Tumblr media
5. San Junipero
So well-made that it’s incredible to believe it’s part of the same low budget series that premiered on channel 4 less than 10 years ago, San Junipero feels monumental. Smart, funny, moving, nostalgic and troubling all at once, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mackenzie Davis have created characters that are instant icons.
Tumblr media
4. Fifteen Million Merits
Whilst the world freaked out over Daniel Kaluuya’s breakout role in Get Out in 2017, those of us who had seen him in this unsettling early episode already knew this was an actor capable of incredible power and emotion. There is something pervadingly disturbing about the shallow world presented in this dystopian episode, where pop-up ads and virtual currency are creepily merged with daily life. Highly upsetting and highly recognizable, in other words, highly Black Mirror.
Tumblr media
3. White Christmas
For a long time the epitome of Black Mirror, White Christmas ticks every box: plausible yet unsettling future technological advancements, empathetic and interesting characters and a tricksy, twisty plot with sudden sharp turns. This episode will always hold a special place in my heart and was my unbeaten favourite until the Netflix era came about...
Tumblr media
2. USS Callister
The teaser clips for this episode made me cringe: Black Mirror doing a retro sci-fi themed episode? What I didn’t expect at all was to be confronted by an excellent deconstruction of the “nerd who deserves the girl” narrative or an equally fun and creepily prescient tale of toxic masculinity, gamer culture and male abuse of power.
Tumblr media
1. Nosedive
I was not ready for this episode. Not only my favourite Black Mirror episode so far, Nosedive is in my opinion one of the greatest modern science-fiction stories ever committed to screen, nailing the harmful social media culture we pretend isn’t there with devastating clarity. It’s interesting to read that Charlie Brooker was intending for Nosedive to be lighter and inspired by sitcoms when I found it to be one of the more excruciating episodes to sit through. The falseness and shallowness of the society presented is one I can see myself wishing for on Instagram, Lacey’s unfair self-criticism something I relate strongly to. This episode calls for a re-evaluation of our values and of our priorities in life and does so with a beautifully shot and scored (shout-out to Max Richter) tragedy of manners with a cathartic ending that struck me in a deep emotional place. I am so glad this episode exists and I could watch it over and over again.
Tumblr media
It’s been an incredible 20 episodes of television and I can’t wait to see what else the creative writers and film makers are coming up with for season 5 later this year.

I’m just so touched about that comment! Like if you  guys don’t know, one of the things I do struggle with when it comes to writing jean/reyes is being very explicit about jean’s cultural identity. In every single fic I’ve written of them, I always let the reader know that the Ryder in the fic is Filipino. I haven’t been at all ambiguous about his identity. Like you’re not reading generic white guy ryder or ambiguously brown ryder (bc I often describe he’s brown in the first scene), you’re reading about this Filipino (Tagalog) Ryder.
And I’ve tried to not be ambiguous about it? The best example of this can be seen in starlight until I start fucking talking about why mahal is more powerful to Jean than amo or love towards the end of the fic. It’s not possible okay.
And I always think no one reads my fics because they’re not reading about default white male with the pale blue eyes Scott Ryder, they’re reading about brown skinned guy with eyes as dark as the galaxy Jean Ryder. Of course, I can’t compete with that. I didn’t even name him Scott because where the heck would I fit Scott in Juan Alejandro Elias R. Ryder III?
So I’ve resigned myself to this and it got so bad that I’ve actually considered trying to write about default Scott even though I can’t do it. The defaults are non-existent to me like who the fuck is Sara Ryder. It’s Gabriela Ryder and I can’t fit Sara into Gabriela Maxine Leonora R. Ryder either.
Seeing messages like that, about how happy they are to see SE Asian representation or Filipino representation reminds me why I’m writing about them in the first place. Why I’m not and shouldn’t be apologetic about including my culture in my fics because who knows who I’d reach.

Runner 5 Drabble
So I’m really happy with the way this turned out. I’m also posting from my laptop at the moment and I don’t know how that will change with the mobile app. Either way I wrote this drabble based off the idea from another post I saw. However I cant find the post and I really want to give proper credit. To those who go on to read this, please let me know asap if you know the username of the person who posted this idea.
Again the writing is mine and the idea was based off someone’s post.
WARNING: SEASON 3 SPOLIERS (kinda)
(The idea pertains to the fact that only a small group of people at Abel know Five’s real name and its the one thing they’ve kept hidden from Moonchild, needless to say this irritates her to no end. Again if you know who posted this idea please let me know) (Italics are for Moonchild)
“You know what sweetheart?”
The statement itself was enough to jostle you out of the light sleep you were in. You set up, bite your lip, and remember the breathing exercises Maxine had gone over. Inhale for 4, hold for 7 (feel your heartbeat in your throat), and exhale for 8. Not too loud, do not be loud.
“I think you’ve been hiding something from me.”
Quietly search for your trainers, and fix your socks over your running tights. Don’t wake anyone….don’t wake Jody. Bite your lip and fix your gaze on your shoes. She’s not in the room, and you can’t see her. That’s good. The breathing technique is working.
“It’s not very nice Five….hiding things from me.”
Scratch that. Stand up and make your bed. Careful of the spot on the cot that creaks. You don’t want to wake anyone. Grab the jacket that’s nicely folded beside you and tie it around your waist, it’s a chilly morning outside. You think going for a run is a good idea.
“I thought you loved me.”
You run your fingers through your knotted hair. Push the fly away strands out of your face and braid it. Breathe in, hold, and out. The combination is calming. Think of everyone you care about. Think of the times Sara would braid your hair for you. Swallow the lump in your throat and try not to miss her.
“It’s not much Five, it’s just your name.”
Take the fifteen steps from your bed to the tent flap. Yes it’s fifteen, you’ve counted them. A lot. Breathe in and out, check your shoes. It’s just a morning run. Just a run to feel better. It’s best not to go back to sleep with voices in your head, you decide. Don’t want to wake up screaming again.
“I know you’d love it if I called you by your name.”
Reach down to grab the tent zipper and move it quietly upwards. Freeze when you feel a hand run up your spine. Jerk backwards when she laughs melodically in your ear and swear she didn’t try to touch your collarbone. Stumble back a few steps and fall backwards. Taste blood in your mouth and stare wide eyed at the sleep confused Jody. Smile pathetically and avoid her concerned gaze. Quickly shove on your jacket and zip it up to your neck.
Idiot idiot idiot she chants in your ear
“I do want you to tell me.”
She comes back 20 laps in. Ignore her and decide to run faster. Listen to the way your feet hit the ground. Focus on your strides because they’re important. You can’t be a good runner without good form. Running is your job and you need to be good at it. Focus on the way your body moves and ignore her. She is not important.
“I’d hate to force it out of you, I really don’t want to have to hurt you Five.”
Regret your last statement. Hunch over at the side of the track and try not to puke. Pain radiates from your spine, down your arms and legs, and into the tips of your fingers and toes. Try not to scream when she threatens to make your vision flash a blinding shade of white.
“Just tell me Five, I can make you talk ya know?”
Keep running as your lungs start to burn. Pick up the pace as your legs begin to ache. Someone’s called for Maxine. Or have they told you to stop? You’re not sure. Everything hurts and you’re scared she’ll dig around your head if you stop. So don’t. Don’t stop as the corners of you vision start going black. Trip over something and fall hard.
“Oh Five, you do know you’re causing a scene? You still can’t stop me hon.”
Struggle to respond to the people around you. Two pairs of eyes stare at you, so focus on the pretty colors. It’s a distant pain now, you feel like your underwater. You can’t hear them, so close your eyes. It’s too bright anyways. Question why you’re sleepy, try to open your eyes but pass out. Let the darkness roll over you like waves of the ocean.
“I always get what I want Five. I’ll dig through that brain of yours. You can’t hide it from me forever. After all sweetheart, we belong together.”

Zombies, Run! Secret Santa Gift!
Hey so this is my gift for @runners345ready and I’m sorry it’s late! I had something else planned but it turned out bad so I tried this instead. I hope you like it! I tried to make it from 5′s POV on Sam and Simon’s deaths, it came out kinda reading like a drabble but it was really long
Season 5 Spoilers, stopping at the end of Lazarus
Oh How You Loved Them
You’ve watched both of them die, both of them. Your bubbly protector Sam, always getting you out of trouble; and your flirtatious companion Simon, always getting you into trouble. Simon and Sam, oh god, you love them so much. Oh, the pranks Simon would pull on you and Sam, and sometime you would join him. (But one time you and Sam were able to get him back involving a gallon of glitter and latrine duty for both of you, but oh how it was worth it.) Or those nights in the rec room when they’d put on a movie and the three of you would share a blanket and a bucket full of sarcastic commentary in the place of popcorn.(There were times when Janine would come in a watch quietly from the back of the room, and Simon would quietly join her until she decided to leave.) Those were the good days. Well, at least as good as things could get during the zombie apocalypse.
But then they ended. Then you watched both of them die. You ran as each of you died. (It’s the apocalypse, so of course, you had to watch them die. No matter how much you wished that you would’ve met at a university somewhere. No matter how much you wished that you would’ve been able to go on dates and worked out awkwardly how your relationship would work out. No matter how much you wished that you would have welcomed those boys into your family unit that was somehow more accepting than either of their families.) And how you mourned them. Most of the township just couldn’t understand just how much it broke their silent hero.
It shouldn’t have been a surprise that Simon would have died first. After all, you’re runners, death is constantly trying to claim those who leave the safety of Able. Death in the form of zombies, and psychos, and hostile townships, and tone controlled zombies. But it’s none of these things that claim Simon. It’s himself really. His own body decided it wanted to live too much and it tried to take over his lungs, and he tried to stop it. He went to Van Ark. He sold us out. He was going to kill Abel. And Jamie stopped him. And you were running back with Carena in your arms, he was back there screaming, and oh god, he was left to be eaten by zombies.(Even if Sam or you had noticed anything, you doubt either of you could have done something. But maybe you could’ve tried. Maybe he could’ve stayed) By the time you got back to Abel no one questioned why the first thing you did was collapse into Sam’s arms. After all, you were just tortured by Van Ark, watched friends die, almost gotten killed many times over, killed Van Ark, and had possible ran more in the past 48 hours than the rest of your life. But there was partying to be done so you and Sam keep yourselves together. (That night after part of the township leaves it’s impossible to not break down, Abel couldn’t even have one victory. You had gone to bed with Sam that night and the two of you had numbly fallen asleep quickly. After all, search parties were going to be sent out at first light tomorrow.)
It was a surprise to find out he hadn’t died. When Simon showed up again half of his face is missing and at least half of his arm as well. When the two of you finally made it to his sad little shack you turned and saw almost no remnants of the man you had once loved. His dark eyes, at least the one you could see, had shown both his guilt and his burning hope as he made you promise to not tell the others. It took all of your willpower, but you had been able to keep that promise. (Even if you hid yourself in your room when you got back to Abel and refused to talk to Sam about what happened. Even if you couldn’t look Janine in the eye for a week straight and told the same story each time she asked. You had kept your promise.) Then you and Jody were going to die. Then Amelia had betrayed Abel. Then you had to watch Simon leave; and had to face Sam and Janine after not telling them the man they had loved had been alive. (You had all but disappeared for a week after that, others only saw you for runs and events that require your presence.)
You knew there was still some trace of the old Simon when he showed up just in time to stop you from killing Sam. (When you woke up and saw him it broke you to see just how much the three of you had changed from those days of pranking one another and watching movies. You kept thinking about the ‘what could have’ when it got this dark.) But he leaves and doesn’t show back up again until you and Maxine are in London. He’s gone after Moonchild addresses him over the PA system and you have the sinking feeling of him betraying you again. You hear the same feeling in Sam’s voice until Simon confronts Moonchild with you. After hearing about how to fix the mistakes Moonchild made you’re ready to put the neural net on your head when Simon offers to do it. You and Sam and Janine all allow him to do it. Sprinting from the burning tower, you once again hear his screams as he dies. (And you pray to whatever god there is that Janine is right, that Simon had died in that fire because oh how he did not deserve all of that pain.)
It was surprising when Sam died. He was suppose to stay in the township and stay safe. But it was because of Maxine that he left. The two of you had grown more distant after what had happened with Simon, and he needed to help look after his child. After her birth you had fought tooth and nail to keep her safe, but it was Sam who dashed into the zombie-infested building after her. It was Sam who had ran faster than you to get to her. He’s shoving her through the bars towards you. His eyes were darker than Simon’s and his pupils were blown huge with fear, but they held the same bright and burning hope in you. He made you promise to keep her safe, to get her to her mom’s, and to get her out of here. Once more, you turned and ran from your love as he died screaming. (Once you got back to the township and gave Sara back to her mom’s you had disappeared. Nobody, not even Janine could find you until it was announced over the PA that you were needed for the search party. Only then did you show up with little acknowledgement to anyone, dread weighing your thoughts.)
There was a vastly different amount of time between Simon’s ‘death’ and his reappearance vs Sam’s. Simon’s was the better part of a year, Sam’s was days. After everyone returned to Abel there was much to be done, including caring for their newest member. There was no doubt that you would be on the search party, despite your exhaustive and various injuries. First you had run by the building, making sure Sam(or rather his recently reanimated corpse) wasn’t inside, then towards the alley where his tracker had lead. You began looking up and down for some sign of him. His corpse, his zombie, even his jacket at this point would be something. Then you had found him, alive, in a dumpster of all places. And then we were bringing him home and Veronica saved Paula and everything was ok. (You would still get nightmares about it, but Sam was staying with Maxine, Paula, and Sara most of the time, so you’d just make sure that he’s still alive. Then you’d quickly duck back out and stay awake most of the night.)
Dr. Necropolis is Simon, but he also isn’t. Something in him had changed last time he ‘died’. He isn’t the broken man he was when you last saw him, but he also isn’t your Simon. So you play along in his game and eventually he helps your little ragtag group of rebels find a home. Sam noticed Dr. Necropolis’s identity the first time they meet, but when he looked over at you and Janine and decided to keep quiet about it.(Later, you, Sam, and Janine have a discussion and agree to not bring it up, to let him tell them if he wants to.) There’s a couple of times when someone slips up, but they normally catch themselves before someone else notices it. (Once, it was movie night and he sat down next to us, and rose when Janine came into the room, upon realizing this he quickly left the room.) But he was here and that made everything better.
You were under Sigrid’s nose, trying to secure the base under Abel, but she caught you. She knows it’s you and betrayal reads clearer than anything you’ve ever seen in her eyes. By now, you know you’re dead meat. But when you wake up you’re slightly hopeful, even after Veronica tells you you’re her test subject. You’re even more so when Nadia discreetly hands you a mic and Sam’s voice is there. Sam thinks there must be a way out of this, in his eyes there just has to be, but you know. You saw the fire in Sigrid’s eyes, she won’t let you get out of this alive. Then you fall off that fence, onto your face of all things, and the zombie has bitten you and you know it’s over. You still listen to Sam, but you can feel the bite burning and your legs are getting heavy. Moonchild is convinced this is how you’ll go and by this point, you’re starting to agree with her. You slow to a stop with your running and between this moment and the next you’re gone.
But you wake up. And you hear Sam crying and Moonchild saying that, well you’re still you in there. Nicki’s bite and on the ground and you give her a hand up. There’s hope now, for you, in Sam’s voice, in getting you out of here. It still got a lot of people hurt, but no one knows that you’re not a zombie so you’re safe for now. Now you get to go home. (The bite will still burn for days afterward and you’ll get nightmares for months, but at least you’re alive.)
You’ve watched them both die, and you’ve seen them come back. Oh, how you’ve watched them grow. Simon’s well, not Simon anymore. He’s more reserved and thoughtful, but he’s also more willing to put himself in harm's way to protect someone important.(Even if it won’t cause him permanent damage it still hurts. You worry about him, but he still tries to leave the room everytime you or Sam enter it so you don’t get to bring it up for a long time.) Sam has grown so much. He’s no longer the young university kid who was failing engineering, nor is he the ‘smile through everything’ person he was months ago. He’s a dad now. (Even if you don’t get to see him much anymore, you’ll still miss him. You help him out when you can but Sara’s still so small and he’s grown closer to Maxine and Paula now.) You’ll still wistfully wish for a world where you guys could have all been friends in some university or at least not like this but you’ve learned to take what you can get. And you’ve got the two people you love the most in the world still with you, and you’re still here, so maybe it’ll be ok. (Maybe one day you’ll get to do the confetti prank you were planning, or maybe you’ll get to sit down and finally watch that Star Wars movie you picked up ages ago. Maybe you’ll still get to introduce them to any family you’ve still got left. Maybe you’ll make it out of this alive.)

Supply Mission: Entertainment Run
Keep Abel smiling!
any one of the following four clips may play at the beginning of a run
[gate siren, gates raising, gunfire]
SAM YAO: Runner Five! Runner Five, Runner Five, Runner Five. Seems like only a few minutes since you arrived here at Abel, and already you've made a name for yourself, gone on some pretty exciting missions, maybe got the attention of that certain someone I keep seeing you looking at? Well, today's the day to earn yourself maximum township cred. Yeah, well, that's what we call street cred now that we don't have non-zombie infested streets anymore.
And how are you going to make friends here at the township? By rustling us up some entertainment, that's how! We've got just enough spare power to run a few bits of gaming equipment, or there are some other requests. Whatever you find, someone will be very, very grateful.
[gate siren, gates raising, gunfire]
SAM YAO: Do you know that saying, Runner Five? "Man cannot live by bread alone"? Well, I have a new variation on it for you: "A township's morale cannot survive on food, medication, guns, ammo, and technology alone because we need something to keep our minds occupied." To be honest, my version's less catchy. I can see why the first one caught on.
Nonetheless, today, we need you to go out looking for sources of entertainment. We'll have some requests along the way. Everyone loves to chip in on a rec center run.
[gate siren, gates raising, gunfire]
SAM YAO: Runner Five, do you know what killed the dinosaurs? Was it zombies? Was it aliens? Truth is, I don't know. No one knows. ... [sighs] Yes, thank you, Janine. Apparently, it was most likely to have been a centuries-long winter caused by an asteroid. But that's not the point. The point is, I have a theory.
My theory is that the dinosaurs died of boredom. They had food, shelter. Probably had med kits. [sighs] Yeah, all right, I'm being told they did not have med kids, but that's not the point either! The point is, we need more than food, shelter, and med kits. We need something to entertain us on our downtime, to keep our minds away from the horror! Something for us to talk about other than zombies. So today, we're sending you on a run to get recreation supplies. Now, there may be some people along with requests. See what you can find.
[gate siren, gates raising, gunfire]
SAM YAO: I have a dream, Runner Five. It's not a complicated dream. Like so many people, my dream is to find the one thing out there that I'm looking for, the thing that's eluded me for so long, but which I know I'll find one day. It's not true love. It's a copy of Toy Story.
Can you believe no one seems to have found one of those? So I need you to go out looking for one, Runner Five, [laughs] because we have some time, and things are going pretty well around the township. DVD or on a hard drive makes no difference to me, I'm not prejudiced. Toy Story, Runner Five. And a few other people might have some recreation requests too.
any of the following clips may appear in any order during a run
SAM YAO: So uh, what do you want, Janine? Dream recreation item that Runner Five might find. Novels? Classical music? Golf clubs? Yeah, I could see you as a golfer.
JANINE DE LUCA: Wire strippers.
SAM YAO: Oh, come on! It can be anything. Dream fine. Let your mind go wild.
JANINE DE LUCA: Two pairs of wire strippers. [SAM YAO sighs]
EUGENE WOODS: Special request here: the doctor and I -
MAXINE MYERS: Hello, Runner Five.
EUGENE WOODS: Doc and I would love a Scrabble board if you can find one. We've been making do for weeks with a board we made ourselves.
MAXINE MYERS: And I'm not sure the double letter scores are in the right place.
EUGENE WOODS: Oh, you were sure before I got you with mixology. All seven letters, X on the double. Boom!
MAXINE MYERS: Also, mixology? Can we get a dictionary, too? If you can find one.
JODY MARSH: Hey! Runner Four here. So I don't know if you're going near a wool shop, but... well, I've been teaching a few of the Abel people here to knit, and it's been -
ED HARRISON: It's surprisingly soothing, actually. After a long day, sort of restful.
JODY MARSH: So, we're looking for all knitting supplies. Uh, wool, needles, loop needles, stitch holders -
ED HARRISON: What was it I needed for colorwork? A yarn stander?
JODY MARSH: [laughs] Yarn strander. But anything you find will be great. Five, thanks.
JACK HOLDEN: Listen, Five, I need your help. Janine here's showed me her idea of a video game -
JANINE DE LUCA: It's Pong! [JACK HOLDEN laughs] I found it in the attic. It was a classic of its time!
JACK HOLDEN: And it turns out this is the most recent game Janine's ever played.
JANINE DE LUCA: When you've played the classics, why do you need to play anything else?
JACK HOLDEN: So, um, bring her literally anything else. We've got a few consoles here, can even negotiate an hour on the laptop. Janine, we can't leave you in ignorance like this anymore.
SARA SMITH: Novels. For me, always novels. The chunkier, the better. I love those, you know, those big classics - Dickens, Dostoyevsky, Dumas.
JANINE DE LUCA: Wait a second, I've heard you talk about computer games. Wasn't there one about stealing cars, and another one about stabbing people?
SARA SMITH: All right, then. Novels and video games. They're practically the same thing, anyway.
JANINE DE LUCA: Oh yes. Which game did Dickens write?
SARA SMITH: He was working on one when he died. Very ahead of his time, Dickens.
SAM YAO: Anyone know what entertainment the Major likes?
MAXINE MYERS: I'm pretty sure she's a keen chess player.
JACK HOLDEN: I've seen her reading big military biographies. Stuff like the campaigns of WWII.
SAM YAO: So that Hungry Hungry Hippos game Runner Five just picked up's probably not going to do it for her.
MAXINE MYERS: You know what I miss? LOLcats. I used to love those things. No one bothered to archive them, though.
JODY MARSH: I miss magazines. Stupid, dumb magazines you could flick through and find out what celebrity had broken up with her boyfriend. I miss ignoring them because they were stupid and then reading somebody else's copy anyway. I miss nonsense! If you find any magazines, bring them in?
ED HARRISON: Driving games. I used to like Gran Turismo. So realistic and accurate! If you stop into any [?] Secondhand Games, well, they might have some.
SAM YAO: We've got a request here from a runner in the field. Andrew Grimberg, Runner Sixteen, is requesting bike parts, bike tools, bikes in general. We suspect that Grimberg might be working on some kind of alternative to running, but we can't be sure.
SARA SMITH: Runner Eight, here. Me and Runner Twenty, Garik Duvall, have a little plan. If you find any footballs, or rugby balls, American footballs - you know, anything round we can kick or throw about - we think it's time to set up a bit of a five-a-side.
JANINE DE LUCA: Quick request from Runner Six. She's patrolling the northern perimeter today, but she's asking if you find extra writing equipment – paper and pens – to bring it back for her. The novel's going well. She's going to read out the latest bit on Thursday night at the rec center.
SAM YAO: Oh, now, I know we haven't sent you out that way before, Runner Five, but if you head straight on, you'll come to the Matthew O'Reilley Center for Performing Arts. We think they might have costumes, stage makeup, that sort of thing, and I think there's some kind of zombie musical brewing.
SARA SMITH: Look, there! Gray Dog Sports. Tennis rackets, basketball hoops. Shoes are always handy. Oh, look! They have hockey sticks. A weapon, a field splint, and a game! Bring as many as you can.
JANINE DE LUCA: Janine here. Do have a look for some fishing rods in the tackle shops down by the river. Try Isaac Grady's place. Fishing rods: useful, practical.
SAM YAO: Fishing rods? On a rec run? Do you even know the meaning of the words "have some fun"?
JANINE DE LUCA: I know the meaning of the words "survive the apocalypse."
EUGENE WOODS: You know what we really do need? More blankets.
SAM YAO: Blankets? This is supposed to be run for rec center supplies. Have some imagination, man!
EUGENE WOODS: They are recreation supplies. Blanket fort!
any one of the following four clips may play at the end of a run
SAM YAO: Wow, that's great work, Runner Five! Come on home now with what you've got. DVDs, board games, novels, art supplies. Yeah, that'll keep us busy on the long, zombie-filled nights. Hmm, still no magic solar-powered Xbox, I see. [sighs] I can dream, can't I?
SAM YAO: Amazing job, Runner Five! So much sports equipment to keep us running around after we've all finished work. Well, after you're finished running around for the day. Still, it's totally different running around after a ball, right? There'll be a warm seat for you at the five-a-side football anytime you want to spectate though, Runner Five.
SAM YAO: Whoa! Backpack filled with novels, movies, and - three copies of Twister! That's going to be a hell of a Twister party. Runner Five, for this, you get first choice at the library, first pick at the movies, and we'll give you one extra life in endurance Twister. You rock!
SAM YAO: Runner Four's going to be pleased; a backpack full of yarn. Which means Runner Seven's going to be pleased; Four offered to knit him a wooly hat. And Runner Eighteen's going to be pleased because he gets Runner Seven's old hat. So you've basically created a cascade of happiness here through the township, Runner Five. When you get back home, there'll be a cup of tea waiting for you, made with a fresh tea bag.

Bittersweet
Here’s my entry for Zombies, Make! round 1, 08/08/20. Shout out to @crownleysand @puptart! This is based on prompt 1, a picture of pancakes, and a tiny bit on prompt 3, Bitter and the Sweetness by The Ready Set.
I couldn’t decide on a tone for this fic so it’s kind of melancholy and also fluffy at the same time??? Writing stuff in 90 minutes is HARD!
Spoilers up to S2M44, probably set some time before the start of season 3. Gentle 5am.
Summary: Sam, Five and Paula try and celebrate Shrove Tuesday, despite the circumstances and the fact that none of them are sure how to.
You wouldn’t know it, but the kitchens at Abel supposedly had a rota. There were clearly defined roles and times for cooking and dishwashing, splitting work fairly across the township. Janine had spent an entire afternoon colour-coding it. It was even pinned to the bulletin board.
Nobody adhered to it anymore, to her eternal annoyance.
It wasn’t for lack of trying to keep things together, but having to constantly scratch names off the list had got harrowing in recent weeks. Things got done, eventually, and it was easier to suit dietary requirements with most people cooking for themselves, meaning the kitchen was almost always free. Still, there was a strict system for taking items from the pantry. Supposedly on guard duty, Pat was slumped and sleeping on the stool outside the storehouse door as Five crept inside.
Last Shrove Tuesday, of course, things had been different.
Sara and Simon had been there for starters, keeping track of the calendar, her reminding him to give something up for Lent, him rolling his eyes and saying surely having to give up the entire world as we used to know it was enough of a sacrifice, ending with a puff of flour and annoyance as she shooed him out from under her feet. Last year, Janine had begrudgingly thrown her hands in the air and agreed that, as it was for religious and cultural purposes, she supposed the supply of eggs and flour and milk could be repurposed. Someone had found a semi crushed can of golden syrup, Sam had given over a curly wurly to be melted for the cause, and they’d made so many pancakes they’d gorged until they were stuffed. The kids had loved it, stickiness all over their faces and fingers. It was probably the first time most of them had ever been completely full.
Lent is supposed to be about repenting, you know, Sara had mock admonished a bloated Simon.
Repenting? It’s about eating your body weight! He’d patted his stomach, and belched. The kids giggled. The women had sighed.
This year, Five quickly grabs the ingredients and tucks them into their backpack, before belly crawling back through the pantry, shelves of tins and bags of potatoes pushing at the netting, threatening to spill onto their skull. It won’t even be missed, they tell their guilty conscience. It’s not like Tess. This is for a good cause.
Sam and Paula are waiting in the kitchen, him with bated breath. She just looks extremely tired, sitting in one of the sinks, staring out of the window every now and again. To be reunited, and so quickly left behind, has aged her. Living in a township where nobody trusts her can’t be easy, either, but Five saw the way she held Sara’s hand as she died. Sam knew how much Maxine adored her. And for both of them, that was enough for their friendship and gratitude.
“We never really did pancakes at home, you know,” Sam says cheerfully, measuring out some flour as Five breaks the eggs. “School were very big on it, though. I mean, in China there’s Spring Festival, which I suppose has similarities to Easter in a lot of ways… Five, Paula, have you ever had mooncake?”
Five shakes their head and shrugs. Paula doesn’t respond.
“Oh man, you’re missing OUT. Oh. I just remembered I’ll probably never have mooncake again. I mean, maybe we can figure out how to make it? I don’t really remember the ingredients, but…”
He chatters away as they stir the mixture and heat the stove (which for once, decides to work first time) and send Five on a dramatic quest to find a non-scratched frying pan. The first batter burns black to the pan when the two of them get distracted in conversation, Five’s hands swimming through the air at a pace only he can keep up with. The second falls on the floor in a valiant attempt to flip it.
“Sara made this look really easy, didn’t she.”
“She used to make them for her boys,” Five signs, and swallows. The fun of the afternoon suddenly sticks a little in their throat.
“Yeah. That’s why I wanted… I just wanted to keep today alive. For both of them, really.”
Paula stands, and wordlessly takes the pan, scraping out the mess and methodically starting again, turning the heat down. She makes three perfect circles, and Five slathers them with squandered butter.
“I didn’t think you did pancake day?”
“I don’t, but I can at least work a gas hob, unlike the two of you.” It’s the first time she’s cracked a bit of a smile since Maxine disappeared as she watches their delight biting into them. “You two just wait for Passover. Then you’ll know about cooking.” Then, remembering, looks at her hands again. “Except I can’t risk going near a knife.”
“Don’t worry, Five and I can be your sous chefs!”
“Yeah, that definitely won’t end badly,” Five rolls their eyes so hard even Paula gets the gist, and chuckles.
“What else do you do on Shrove Tuesday?” she asks.
“I’m pretty sure Phil was saying there’s a race?” Five scrawls in their notepad. “I have no idea whether that’s a real thing or a New Canton thing.”
Sam, running water for the dishes, turns and splashes them. “You also thought cheese rolling was just a New Canton thing.”
“I’m sorry that I don’t know your weird English town things!”
“Excuse me, cheese rolling is a legitimate event. Anyway, you could beat every single one of those New Canton runners in a straight up race, hands down.”
“I don’t know, Fifty-three is fast…”
“You’re faster. Hands. Down.”
Five grins up at him with a megawatt smile. He smiles back, reaching out to daub their nose with soap suds -
Pat’s crochety voice suddenly filters through the kitchen doorway. “Hey, did someone take something without signing for it?”
“Oh. So, this is where the running comes in.” Five grabs Sam’s arm, who grabs Paula’s, and the three of them burst out of the kitchen and charge towards the exit before the old man has time to turn and see them.
***
“Are you two,” Paula heaves for breath on the other side of the township. “Are you two always this childish? ”
Sam sputters as Five signs, “I prefer to call it young at heart?”
All she can think of is when her and Maxine were that way, rose tinted smiles, treating the world like it was still brand new despite everything and everyone being against them. I miss that.
Five sees her face, and signs slowly, mouthing the words to let her lipread. “We’ll get her back, Paula, wait and see. She needs to taste pancakes that good.”
“And in the meantime, you’re now officially in someone’s bad books for doing something pointlessly stupid.” Sam smiles. “Welcome to Abel.”

Runner 5 Questionnaire
Spoilers for S2M18, general beginning of S4, S4M21. Others implied but not a lot directly stated.
1.) Does your Five speak? If not, why not?
Yes! Sort of. She stopped speaking entirely near the beginning of the apocalypse around the time she was at Mullins. A certain incident happened which mirrored when she lost her older sister at the start of the outbreak wherein one of her. Um. I can’t remember the word for fellow army member. They were friends I guess and Finley’s talking over comms ended up giving away the other friend’s position and so yeah. She stopped speaking after that and didn’t talk at all for like, upwards of 3 months of her time at Abel.
But (gay warning) as she spent more time around friends at Abel who all tend to be pretty talkative, she slowly started talking again and is slowly coming out of her shell because she’s comfortable again and has faith in her friends and finally some restored trust in herself not to get people killed. Granted some things totally disrupted that increase in talking (i.e. Archie dying) but generally: yes.
That was super long I’m sorry.
2.) Who are your Five’s best friends?
Sam and Maxine for sure!! Finley’s also super close with Jack and Eugene who. Generally come as a pair friendship wise but she’s probs a bit closer with Jack just because they have kinda similar habits of poking fun at Eugene. She’s also getting along with Paula a lot more but even though she knew the circumstances of her helping Van Ark it was. Kinda tough to get past but now they’re good and Finley spends lots of time helping Sam babysit baby Sara. EDIT HOW COULD I FORGET JODY HOLY COW FINLEY AND JODY GET ALONG PRETTY WELL like more than pretty well they complement and tease each other lots even when Finley isn't talkative there's a lot of silly-face-making and such. I love Jody.
3.) Does your Five have any love interests?
Hello have you heard of our lord and savior 5am? Listen there’s literally no other like. You can’t argue the fact that they obviously really love each other, see Exhibit A *points to S2M20 and links you to a totally canon and not edited clip*. I love them and they love each other.
But if we’re talking about not pure blissful canon happiness then gee, sign me up for 5imon and 5ara. Two other ships I can totally get behind the whole, feelings happen thing and then well. Bumps in the road happen.
4.) Who does your Five not hang out with outside of work?
Uhhhh first instinct is just like. Janine. Maybe a bit more as seasons progress but definitely nowhere near the people from question 2. Nadia and Veronica not so much either, probably, because Finley and Veronica think in completely different ways and Nadia is mostly glued to Veronica.
5.) What kind of hairstyle does your Five sport?
She’s got relatively dark, mostly straight and sometimes frizzy hair. It goes like, idk, down just a bit past her shoulders to just above the middle of her chest. Even though she has to wear it up for runs she finds like, lots of comfort in having her hair down and wearing comfortable, non-restrictive clothing like sweaters or stuff when there’s a chance to relax. It feels a lot like pre-outbreak for her and makes her feel less tightly wound. Whoops I got totally off track. There are also bangs, not sidebangs but you know. Anime mixture of straight across and not.
All of these answers are so long I am so sorry
6.) What is your Five’s relationship to Abel D&D night?
Oh my god ok. This is where Finley being a self insert genuinely comes into play because! She definitely loves D&D, but like, definitely isn’t super inclined to initiate doing things during the campaign and kind of relies on the rest of the party to carry the story along for quite awhile when she isn’t as talkative. And that’s a pretty long time.
She joined the D&D group at the continued invitation of Sam and the rest of the D&D crew and it was for sure one of the things that got her more comfortable at Abel. Like, she definitely spent time just sitting in on sessions at first, and Sam would kind of let her see the DM stuff because she sure wasn’t gonna like. Tell anyone and eventually around the time she starts talking more she gives him a bit of ideas and such but then she wants to play so that, like Stops. She doesn’t spoil the stuff Sam’s planned for the story that she already knew bc she knows he’s a huge dork and that would be evil. I mean can you even imagine how excited Sam gets about plots that he comes up with. He kills me honestly.
This is all ending up super rambley and I’m kind of figuring it out as I go along I am sorry
7.) What’s one wacky headcanon about Abel?
This is a tough one because you know there are undoubtedly a bunch of Abel inside jokes that are perpetuated on Rofflenet and on Radio Abel and on the community notice board but I can’t think of something specific thats…”wacky”. Hm. I’m stealing this bc I just saw Kenzie on twitter talking about how loud the gate to Abel is and it’s definitely a thing where everyone who isn’t involved in being a runner or on comms or anything, just like normal citizens continually ask why it’s that loud. Y’know the things that everyone in a house or school complains about but does nothing to fix Ever? Yeah this is that. I feel like after visiting Abel the Minister would want to fix that but idk what I’m even talking about anymore. Um. Next.
8.) What’s one wacky headcanon about your Five?
This is legitimately difficult to think of ummm. Oh she’s made a habit of taking merch shirts on supply runs. Like, everything from tees saying “I ❤️ UK” to “Jacob’s Hot Dog Emporium,” and that’s basically her entire run wardrobe. It started as convenience but ended up being really fun and sometimes people grab shirts for her when on runs to unique spots without her. Even tho like I mentioned she loves wearing sweaters when she’s allowed to relax, that’s obviously not possible on missions because of riskiness of baggy/catchy clothing so location merch t-shirts are her run gear. That’s like, half-wacky right?
9.) How did your Five end up at Mullins base?
This is something I haven’t thought tons about but I’m gonna do my best to give a general idea. Like I mentioned in #1, Finley lost her sister at the start of the outbreak in a really tight situation which I haven’t considered all the details of (but which definitely involved the “No! You stay here, be safe, okay?” trope), after which she had no idea. She stayed where her sister told her to for a fairly decent amount of time and when she finally left to search for supplies and just anyone who was still alive, she was found by a Mullins patrol. She doesn’t know pretty much anything about the status of the rest of her family and just kind of…goes with it because she has nothing else. It’s a pretty Bad Time but yeah.
10.) What doesn’t your Five miss about the pre-apocalypse world?
Oh man, lots of stuff, primarily working. That sounds bad and lazy but she had lots of troubles really putting big effort into jobs that were entry level and 100% necessary to make any career progress but was a good people person so her dad kept pushing her to hold some job through college but she didn’t do too well at that and it ended up just majorly stressing her out. So that’s something she loves about Abel! Her “job” is running and helping and doing her best to make it so everyone can live good lives and she loves that, even if it’s a lot of responsibility.

🔪 Sara!
Tumblr media
Five and Sara <3
If you’d like to request something please go here to see who’s who! There’s still plenty of characters available 💕
Info below the cut for neatness:
The moment Sara saw Five she could read them like a book.
They were stood there, a little bored looking, impatient, slight scowl on their not-yet-friendly expression. The lack of fear they showed leaving on the run made her think that they thought they were tough, tough enough to survive, and probably had done a lot of surviving even before the apocalypse. Sara figures they were a scrappy kid, probably a bit of a delinquent growing up, most likely raised in the system.
Five, ever the goblin brain, took one look at Sara and had only one thought:
‘Milf alert!’
Then in no time at all they were thinking ‘oh, crap, she has a gun.’
Five is certain Sara won’t shoot them. Mostly certain. Sam wouldn’t let her. Right? Right. Probably.
It is very much clear that Sara doesn’t trust Five one bit, which is fine with Five, because they don’t trust her either.
At the same time, Five can’t help but think that Sara’s a bit of a badass.
Five is NOT HAPPY that Sara is the one who’d be training them in combat. In fact, Five doesn’t really think they need training in combat at all. They’ve always been fine with fighting in the past. They want to get their hands on some weapons, do some proper training with guns and knives and stuff. Not waste their time beating up some mom.
Sara’s quite looking forward to it, actually.
Sara’s reading of Five turns out to be correct: Five was a scrappy fighter who thought themself tougher than they actually were. In less that five seconds of sparring, Five had swung at her, and Sara seized them, flipped them over her shoulder had them pinned roughly to the floor. Winded.
Five was not happy about this at all and they hated that smug look on her face. When Sara offered her hand to pull them back to their feet, Five shoved it away.
Five and Sara sparred for hours most nights. Always with the same results. Five reported to Maxine, face, hands and knees scraped up from the amount of times Sara tripped them and forced them to the ground. But at the same time, Five’s respect for Sara had began to grow.
It became a stubbornness thing. Five would find Sara most nights, when everyone else was in the rec room, and Sara wouldn’t mind taking them to spar some more. Five was determined to prove themself. They were determined to be the one to have Sara winded at their feet for once.
But as the time went on, resentment made way for amusement. When Sara offered her hand now, Five would let her pull them to their feet, or use it as an oppertunity to try and yank her down.
One night Five actually does it.
They’re sparring as usual, have been doing so for hours already, stinking of sweat and both pretty damn tired at this point. And Five just... does it. Seizes her arm, twists, and tosses her down. They pin her to the ground, eyes suddenly wide and wild with delight.
They’d done it!
But then Sara - ever the warrior - plays dirty. She seizes a rather sharp rock, and stabs it straight into Five’s shoulder. Five collapses to the side in shock, eyes wide as they stare at her looking completely betrayed.
“Don’t ever think you have the upper hand, honey. Not against me.”
Sara forces them to their feet, shoves them against a wall where she warns them to hold on, digs her fingers in and yanks the rocks out of their shoulder. The wounds so deep that Five needs stitches.
Sara’s a little impressed that even as she yanked the rock out, Five barely made a noise. Not a scream, not a yelp, not even a whimper. Just ragged, pain-filled breathing and a slight buckle to their knees.
Sara's impressed, until she realises that perhaps she ought to be concerned. Can Five make those noises? She knows they’re mute, but surely they can make some noises. And if they can but they grit their teeth through it - how exactly did Five end up with such a high pain threshold?
There’s a part of Five that never fully trusts Sara. There’s something about her that makes them think that if they came between her and something she was after, she wouldn’t hesitate putting a bullet through them. But there’s no one in the whole of Abel they respect more than they respect her.
And Sara respects Five too. They’re both fond of each other, though they’ll never say so. There’s no affectionateness between the two of them. But to Five, Sara is their role model. And Sara thinks of Five as her protege.
Sara’s big on the whole tough love thing. And Sara is not one for comforting Five. ‘You almost got caught by fast zoms today? Okay. So what are you going to do to make sure that does happen in the future?’
It’s exactly that kind of tough love which makes Five such an amazing runner. They see a problem, their automatic thought is what can they do to fix it. They never used to think like that before Abel. Before Abel, running away from the problem was their default.
Sara and Five are the ultimate dream team. When they work together, they’re incredible. Unstoppable.

Masterpost of fics or at least a list of drarry classics? Thanks! :D
Wowwie Anon, you certainly put me to work with this! I hope this is what you were looking for?
I have updated my blog to include a masterlist of all these fics, and a place where I can much easier update and add as I go.
I have tried to section off everything as best I could. Where I didn’t have enough for a section, or didn’t really have a section (??) I added them to the bottom. If there are any other tropes, AUs, UAs or anything you would like added, let me know.
If some of the links don’t work, also please let me know (I put this all together at about 2am after too much coffee).
I really wanted to put in all I have read… but by the time I got to page 13 of my history on A03 I knew that was just not going to happen. There are SOOOOO many great fics out there, and I want to say a big THANK YOU to every single person who takes the time to create these wonderful pieces of art.
So I have put in what I can, and will add everything else to my masterlist.
Happy reading!

Harry has no idea; he’s too busy trying not to be in love with Malfoy to care.

It’s a veritable wizarding utopia and life is predictable for the first time in years. do you hear what i hear?
Hey  @are-you-sure-its-me-you-see ! I’m your ZR Secret Santa! Thanks @runnerzero for organising!
It’s the first Midwinter/holiday party back at Abel since the events of Season 5, and Five and Sam are dealing with things sort of not really well at all.
Can you tell I’ve nearly finished S5 and am slightly too scared to end it because I want everyone to be okay? 😂 You said you did like some 5am and a bit of drama, so it’s a little angsty! I promise a happy ending, though. I also apologise for the first person, and hope it isn’t too cringey.
CW: blood + death mentioned
Spoilers up to the first half of ZRS5 at least (I haven’t played the last episode yet so probably a bit non-canonical)
Merry Christmas! Love Beb :)
It’s the first Midwinter dinner for a long time, actually.
Things have changed in Abel. We’ve lost so many people. Some quietly slipped away in the night, some were violently dragged from this world, kicking and screaming for every last ragged breath. The playground we all worked so hard to build became yet another burial pit.
But things go on, somehow. Our losses won’t define us. We can’t let them. We repeat the words over and over: maybe that will make them stick.
Snow blankets the roof of the farmhouse, muting the talk and laughter inside. Every last speck of Ian’s sliminess has been scrubbed from the building, and candles cover every spare surface that isn’t Janine’s huge oak table. Cameo is telling some long, over the top story, one arm still in a sling where a soldier shattered it with the butt of a gun. Nadia’s mouth turns up at the corners, even threatens a smile. Jack and Gene, back for the party, are pulling pranks like little kids - salt in water, custard balanced on the doorframe, the lot. People are eating quickly and carefully, lining their pockets with morsels of food no matter how many times Janine tells them they don’t need to.
And outside, no headstones, but mounds of earth where one day trees might grow. We did those earlier, said our goodbyes, planted flowers and talked and sang and now we’ve all moved on. That part of our lives is neatly boxed away. We live to fight another day.
I’m sitting not far from the farmhouse windows, in Archie’s shadow. She holds an apple in her left hand and a chicken under her right arm.
You should go inside, Five! They’re opening presents! I love presents!
“A few more minutes, okay?”
You’ll catch your death is what I’d say if you were mine, Sara Smith adds. I feel her tuck a hair behind my ear, and shiver. Point proven.
Oh look! Little Sara got booties! Oh they’re so tiny! They’re very purple, but I think we can forgive that.
“Five?” Sam is silhouetted in the golden light of the doorway. “You coming in?”
I shake my head. He closes the door, walks up and sits beside me, draping a coat and an arm over my shoulders.
“Didn’t think you were. Do you want to talk about it?”
I shrug, leaning into his chest.
“Are you sure? Because… because I think I do. But we don’t have to. We can just sit here. Whatever you want, okay?”
No matter how many times I try to piece Abel back to how it was, I can’t do it. I squint and I can see the square where Carina did her first cartwheel, Molly desperately trying to copy her, all chubby toddler arms and legs, but then it’s the same square where Owen got shot and shot and shot and the images meld and blur and drown in blood until all I can think to say is-
“Out. I need to get out. Just for tonight. Please.”
I know Sam probably wants more than anything to go back inside rather than freeze to death in a zombie infested forest, but he smiles anyway.
“Yeah. We can do that.”
***
We leave Tom festooned in party hats and happily playing with the comms rig. Crowded dinners aren’t really his thing yet, either.
Sam watches from the bottom with a stopwatch as I pound up and down the hill, not stopping for breath, up, turn, down, repeat. Can’t think if you don’t breathe. Can’t think if your lungs are burning, crackling. Lactic acid spitting at my legs. I push through harder, faster.
“Five? Five? I think you might want to- FIVE!”
I go sprawling on the icy snow, the pain biting into my hands grounding me for a moment as Sam tears towards me. “You okay? You all right?”
“I’m fine.”
“You’re bleeding!”
I hadn’t noticed. I roll onto my back, picking some of the gravel out of my hands. It’s not so bad, although it looks dramatic. My own blood isn’t jarring. I know it well enough.
Sam collapses down next to me, and we’re suddenly both gazing at the same stars, trying to stop our hearts from hammering. I know he’s going to talk, and I won’t be able to find the right words. I stare at my hands instead of the sky.
“Y’know, sometimes I’m walking around and around the training circuit with Sara, trying to get her to sleep, and I think how could I have done it, Five? How could… how could we have brought a baby into a world like this? Why did I ever think it was a good idea?”
“Things were different.”
I told them not to at the time. My heart soared when they said it and I struck it down with my head.
I’m not going to say I told you so.
“Things were always on a knife’s edge.” His voice catches. “I keep a brave face but I can’t stop thinking that we’re never, ever going to be safe again. There’s always going to be someone. So we won this time. There’s always going to be a next time, and one day…”
“One day, there won’t be,” I try.
“I know you don’t believe that, or you wouldn’t be out here. You wouldn’t be hearing them as much as you have been.”
Archie and Sara Smith and even Moonchild are quiet, pensive, waiting on the edge of my mind to add something but coming up short.
Sam sits up, rummaging through his rucksack for a first aid kit. He takes my hand, and I hiss at the dabs of antiseptic. “But what I do know is this. We might not have tomorrow, but we do have today. Maxine says today is the only thing we can trust. Today we’re safe. We’re together. Today we are winning. Just for today, we can let it be Midwinter, Hanukkah, Christmas Eve and New Year all rolled into one. Not the future. Not the past. Now.”
“Sam, Runner Five,” my headset crackles into life, and I pull it off so we can both listen in. “Something weird at your nine O’clock. I’d get moving.”
“Something weird?” I manage, turning on the mic.
“Zombie weird, but the sound of the movement isn’t quite right. It’s hard to…”
“Oh god. Oh god, oh god, oh shitting hell!” Sam stows the first aid kit, pulls me up.
“What do you see? My visibility is poor. Do you need backup? Shall I get Jane?”
“Are those zombies on, on, on-“
Tom calls it right as we do, seconds before the first one whistles past. “Skis! Aha, that’s what the noise is! Zombies on skis! Skiing zombies!”
“Surely nobody started the zombie apocalypse skiing downhill?! How did these guys even get here?”
“You worry about running now, Yao, think about the how’s and why’s later!” Tom’s voice becomes more Commander-like as the whooshing noises ramp up. “Forward. Turn right, go, go, go.”
We run clumsily, pulling each other along, trying not to slip again on the ice. But the zombies are flying by too fast to be a threat to us, their roars and growls muffled by the speed of the skis.
“If this is someone’s… idea of a joke… it isn’t… very… funny!”
“It is a little funny, Sam. Reminds me of a time I was in Canada and-“
“Don’t… don’t… you absolutely do not have a past experience that was like this!”
***
“All right, they’ve mostly landed in a tangled mess at the bottom, but they’re going to intercept you when you get there. Best bet is to split up and each take a different route back to the gates. That should be enough to confuse them.”
“We’ve only got the one headset,” I pass it over to Sam. “You have it.”
“Are you sure?”
“Course. See you back in ten, okay?”
“Race you!” He replies, almost laughing at himself, and is swallowed by the darkness. “I need the head start!”
I’m alone. All I can hear is the crunch of ice and the moans of the crumpled horde. For once, there’s not a single voice to guide me. Running is usually enough to block out everything else, but I can’t stop thinking about them slipping away from me again. I’m alone, I’m completely alone, and I can’t breathe, and I almost run directly into the gates.
He isn’t here.
It’s stupid to panic. I’m faster. Of course I’m faster, I’ve been a runner for years. This is what I do. Every inch of me wants to go and find him
He isn’t here in five minutes.
Everything’s shaking.
I don’t know what to do. Did he get lost? Kidnapped? Do I look for him? What do I do when there’s nobody to tell me where to go?
“Why are none of you speaking to me!”
Moonchild whispers in the back of my head. You know I only pop up when you’re in imminent danger. It’s not like we have control over these things. Anyway. He’s right there. You’re only in danger of looking crazy. He can’t know you’re crazy.
Sam is staring at me, and I realise I must look even madder than I did earlier. Tears are running down my face, and I’ve run my fingers through my hair so much it’s standing up on end. He’s the only one who knows about the voices.
He definitely already knows I’m crazy.
“Five, I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry.”
It’s not his fault. Chin up. We’re proud of you.
It will be all good again. Always sunshine after rain! Big brave smiles, yes?
I take a long breath. He’s here. He’s still here. Solid. Real. He wraps his arms around me.
“Sam. I really thought we’d… I’m so scared that… I don’t want you to end up just another voice in my head.”
Just a voice in your head, Runner Five? Nah, I’m so much more than they are. Our connection runs so much deeper, y’know?
“Oh, shut up,” I mutter as Moonchild pouts.
“I can’t make any promises; nor can you. None of us can. But I have a crazy amount to live for. We’ve got this far, haven’t we? Who’s to say we haven’t another Midwinter in us?”
“... I’ll drink to that.”
“Let’s get inside first. It’s so cold out here, and I want to see what Jody made for Sara.”
“Purple booties. Archie semi-approves.”
“Five, hearing stuff is one thing, but if you tell me the ghosts give you creepy powers now-“
“We were looking in the windows!” I’m indignant, and he grins.
“That makes more sense. Come on, I don’t want to miss any more of this.”
I let him pull me into the tremulous joy of the farmhouse at last, leaving the voices of the dead behind in the snow for now.
