Terra Cotta Warriors

The famous Terra Cotta Warriors of Xi An are one of the most astounding sights of ancient China. They were built for China’s First Emperor, Qin Shi Huang, who reigned from 221–210 BCE. The thousands of years old warriors, horses, weapons and carts serve to protect the Emperor’s grave, and they are, in fact, colourful upon inital discovery, but lose their colors within a short period of time after being dug out. The warriors are so intricately carved that they are each unique, from their facial features, to their clothing, to their name tags. When that is put into perspective, while viewing the rows upon rows of endless bodies, one is bound to marvel at the wonder of it all.

Xi’an, known historically as Cháng’ān 长安 (though the location of modern-day Xi’an is not quite the same as the locations of the cities known as Chang’an), served as the capital to a number of dynasties, including the Han and Tang dynasties. In this video - we meet the first farmer who is alive now, who discovered the world renowned 8200 Terracotta warriors , chariots and horses in Lintong district of Xi'an, Shaanxi province of China. It was a funerary art made for the First Emperor of China , Qin shi huang 2200 yrs ago, in 210-209 BC. Xi'an is the eastern most end of Silk route, and is one of the four great Capitals of ancient China. We stayed in a lovely French boutique hotel- Campanile bell tower Xian.
