Lemonpink is...
...quite honestly the creepiest version of Lemongrab.
He was on screen for such a short amount of time, but every moment that focused on him was skin-crawlingly uncomfortable in a way few other, if any, LG moments reached.
You know it's not the real LG, but can also just tell when watching him (well, I get this sense anyway) that the "real" LG is just beneath the now rosy, sugary-sweet surface of his acidic body, howling and desperately itching and scratching to get out. He's sour not sweet, damn it!
I once saw a fanart where the "before" of the AT episode Skyhooks was portrayed and LG was covered in gum in it asking his mother something like "Whyyy mother?!" as an "elementized" Princess Bubblegum began to penetrate his usual lemon essence, I believe saying "Don't worry son, I'll fix you". In show she also alters it and eventually takes full control of it and him.
Can you imagine what that must have been like for LG when PB did that? His (as far as he could tell) fully sane, goddess of a mother literally deciding to change everything about him, down to his DNA. Must have been a horrific, emotionally devastating, painful body horror experience, I would imagine. (Especially considering how he's literally the opposite of sweet.) It was likely also yet another reminder that he was nothing more than an "experiment gone wrong" in the eyes of his creator. 🙁
Update: Here's the mentioned artwork below!

It's by TheFreakyPanda on DeviantArt and the short description they typed gives a little more context.

In "Too Young" when Princess Bubblegum talked about how she "never get to act like a kid" and how she wishes she "could stay like this with you, but..." I started crying. This poor girl grew up in the harsh world of early Ooo, she spawned from a living wad of gum and built a house for her brother, she tried to have a family but they betrayed her and she internalized that as "ignorance is bliss." Because shes intelligent, and she's sure not happy, and they were intelligent, and they weren't happy either, atleast Neddy is happy when he's just sucking on those roots and blissfully unaware of his surrondings. Homegirl didn't have any childhood at all, even Marceline had a more carefree childhood when she was with Simon, and she grew up in the literal apocalypse with three parental abandonments. Simon kept her entertained and cared for her, but PB was protecting Neddy and scavenging for resources, on her own, just to stay alive, her entire childhood. God. People dont talk enough about how tragic her childhood was, I feel freaking awful.

The existence of both Neddy and Lemongrab, as like, Autistic-Coded relatives of Princess Bubblegum actually adds a lot of Context to the earlier Lemongrab Episodes. Like, the big way Peebles hurt Lemongrab is by sticking him in an empty castle ruling over an empty Earldom. Making him extremely isolated and emotionally frustrated throughout his entire existence.
Tumblr media
And she probably did it because Lemongrab’s behavior reminded her of Neddy and she knew that Neddy flourishes when he’s mostly left alone and she…. just assumed the same would be true of Lemongrab. Not really considering the possibility that being left alone actually makes Lemongrab extremely miserable. That even though he can’t get along with Candy People, he needs others who are sour like him to be truly content.
Just goes to show that the people who are built different can also be built different than each other.

Reminder About Lemongrab
Remember, every trait (and I mean EVERY trait) that Lemongrab has/had, he most likely got from his mother. Every. Single One. Yes, even that one (cannibalism).
Tumblr media
Poor thing looked unhappy. I hope it wasn't conscious.

thinking about a spider-man adventure time au…. like there isn’t a specific spider-man universe i’m using (it’s more of an amalgamation of TASM and mostly USM bc they’re my faves) but oh my god i’m going crazy….. details after cut. i do want to clarify that this is NOT a character analysis because im horrible at that, i CANNOT "read between the lines".
like like peter as finn obviously because of him being the mc,, i’m thinking deadpool being jake because (ignoring spideypool cause i don’t really care for it anymore AND dp’s flirting because finn and jake are BROTHERS.) spidey and dp have a similar dynamic as finn and jake also deadpool’s personality really fits jake as a whole. and copycat is lady rainicorn because dp deserves happiness hehe
gwen is totally princess bubblegum,, science girl,,, peter in this totally has a crush on her and everything happens the same as in canon. i'm also thinking felicia as marceline.. black cat the halloween queen hehe :3 she'll still be a vampire though but she's LITERALLY called black cat she's GOTTA be halloween themed.
next up is ice king i guess. i want him to be usm doc ock bc tom kenny lol, but the personality doesn't fit much.. but it'll be hilarious so i'm keeping it.. and since it's usm doc ock i want the gunthers or gunters or whatever to be the spider slayers lmaooo. kaine would the main gunter i suppose.
i kinda want USM miles to be BMO because i love both of them,, and usm miles feels (to me) kinda like a brother to peter and BMO is pretty much considered a brother to finn and jake (i think). NEPTR is random as hell but i kinda want amadeus cho (USM) to be him, probably only as iron spider though.
ok ok now my favorite casting,, HARRY AS FLAME PRINCESS... i'm a parksborn junkie and wow their personalities and relationship match up SO well with finn and flame princess it hurts.. and yeah i know that finn and flame princess break up but UGH they fit so well, so i must deal with it. i just finished watching s4 e1 so i'm FUELED on this right now RAAAAHHHH. i did draw something and i'll post it tomorrow if i remember teehee. this harry is totally based off tasm because i LOVE his design and character and they fit flame princess more than usm harry does. also flame king is norman because that fits GREAT.
i'm also thinking, on the subject of love intrests, mary jane as huntress wizard. now this mj i haven't based off of usm (and tasm doesn't have her) so i don't really have a basis for her. BUT. her and peter are always fated to be together so she of course would be what is finn's final love interest in normal adventure time ( :,) /pos) and i also feel mj's usual design would mix well with huntress wizard's. now i want to clarify i do not remember anything because i haven't watched adventure time in YEARS and my current rewatch is only in season 4.
USM ben reilly would be fern. i don't really need to explain why. *cough* 'clone' of mc *cough*
carnage is lemongrab because of that abhorrent screeching (that phrasing could apply to either of them lol). venom might be his brother but i can't remember him at all lmao so that might change
now now now i think that eddie brock would be peppermint butler (but make peppermint butler smile less) because of his general vibe and story. but i must say, i'm talking about eddie with NO venom. i think as a candy person he would be black licorice so his design could reference venom with his colors.
fast round now, flash should be lsp, prismo could maybe be played by doctor strange (USM!!!), mysterio could be magic man because LOOLLL, martin could be peter's dad in TASM?, billy should be iron man, cinnamon bun COULD be liz allen (cause of harry) but i feel bad doing that to her, abracadaniel could be USM moon knight just for the laughs. i have NO clue who the lich should be,,due to usm lore i want goblin but norman is already flame king soooo... ultimate goblin maybe?
and that is IT for nowww. i will keep posting more about this au under #rk's spider time au, and i will be reblogging this post if i have more info teehee anyways i am insane.. ALSO also most (not all) character relationships are ignored when i pick the roles because that fucks up some stuff (like marcy and simon being close even though felicia and doc ock barely have anything to do with eachother)

I just realized that Lemongrab's journey of self-discovery in "The Mountain" was him realizing that seeking perfection is a useless endeavor and he has to love himself for all his faults and to accept things as they are. And LSP has been shown to have self esteem issues. Turns out her boyfriend has a lot of thoughts on loving people with all their flaws and how one shouldn't feel the need to be "good enough" to earn approval. Good thing she also provides a ton of affection and attention in return.

Elements and the Four Temperaments
For me, one of the biggest takeaways from the Elements miniseries was the way it used the four temperaments, and what it means for the various characters in the show. I touched on it here and there as we visited the various elementally charged locations in Ooo, but now that I’m through the series, this seemed like a good time to go in depth on the topic.
The Four Temperaments are a very old and long since outdated method of classifying personality types. The temperaments are Sanguine, Melancholic, Phlegmatic, and Choleric. Once upon a time, it was believe that these personalities were caused by an imbalance of the four classical elements, which is taken to a very literal extreme in the Adventure Time mini-series.
Despite being long since discredited in favor of more nuanced classification systems, the four temperaments still show up a lot in fiction since they’re an easy way to sort out characters. It’s so pervasive that the Four-Temperament Ensemble page on TvTropes is extensive. So let’s get into how they’re used here:
Candy
Tumblr media
The Candy Kingdom is characterized by a Sanguine attitude, taken to an extreme by becoming an outright manic enthusiasm for everything. In real life, the element tied to the sanguine personality type is air.
For the many background candy citizens, this isn’t much of a change, just an exaggeration of their existing personality. For the major supporting characters however, particularly Lemongrab and Fern, the transformation is kind of horrifying since they are very much Not That.
Even Princess Bubblegum herself is robbed of much of her character depth with only pure sugar fueling her personality.
Ice
Tumblr media
The Ice Kingdom is characterized by a Melancholic attitude, taken to an extreme by becoming pretty dang depressed. Ironically, melancholy is not associated with water in real life, but instead Earth.
We don’t get to see very many background characters here compared to the other kingdoms. The one character to get a major focus is Carroll, who doesn’t seem to have changed much, oddly enough.
Patience St Pim on the other hand undergoes a drastic change, and not for the better. Gone is much of the energy that she used to have. One of her defining characteristics in prior appearances was her constantly weird way of walking, and now she doesn’t walk at all. Instead she just glides around.
It’s unclear what happens to Patience at the end of the miniseries. She is last seen putting herself in a protective ice shell which may or may not have protected her from the LSP wave, and which may or may not open up any time soon.
Slime
Tumblr media
Fittingly, the Slime Kingdom is defined by a Phlegmatic personality. This is also where the water element goes in the traditional temperament model.
The Slime Kingdom ultimately proves to be Jake’s downfall as his already laid back personality gets amplified into complete passivity. Finn is ultimately forced to carry on the rest of the adventure without him after Jake succumbs to his baser urges.
Fire
Tumblr media
And finally, we visit the fiery tempered Fire Kingdom. As you probably guessed, the traditional element associated with the choleric personality is... fire.
Despite having the most drastic physical change, Flame Princess doesn’t have much of a personality change in her pure elemental form. Mostly we just get FP without the filter, much like she was back when she was first introduced.
This is also the kingdom that Finn is weak to, which is fairly unsurprising given his general personality. He’s always enjoyed fighting monsters, but it was always for a good reason, and the elemental magic just removed the need for that caveat.
The most interesting minor character to appear here is Lady Rainicorn. Is her presence in the fire kingdom meant to be ironic, or does it indicate some hidden depths beneath her usually calm and motherly personality? Given what we know about her backstory, the latter is easy to believe, although it is still pretty funny seeing the whimsical unicorn recolored to look like Godzilla.
And that’s all of the elements present in the special.
Yup. Every one.
...
Lumpy
Tumblr media
I’m... not quite sure what to do with this one. I feel like any analysis I have of LSP’s role in this story is tainted by the fact that she is by far my least favorite character in the series, but honestly that seems to be the point?
There is some technobabble about how LSP is from another dimension, and that’s why she’s immune to elemental magic, but when they break down the reasons why she’s immune, and when you take into account the VERY obvious subtext of the elements as personality types, it really just seems like LSP saves the day because she is a terrible person.
She’s too narcissistic to be in the slime kingdom, too much of a killjoy for the candy kingdom, and lacks the empathy needed to help Finn through the fire kingdom. This doesn’t even look like a metaphorical personality disorder. It looks like something that’s actually diagnosable, but I don’t feel qualified to do that.
And if that’s the case, then I don’t know what the message is supposed to be. What is the audience supposed to do with LSP? Are we supposed to be patient with her for being neuro-divergent coded? Does that excuse the genuinely terrible stuff she’s done? I really don’t know. It’s a quandary.

About That One Moment in "Another Five More Short Graybles":
Content warning: A few references to abuse and abuser-victim dynamics, plus some images/artwork that some may find very disturbing or triggering.
Tumblr media
Conclusion:
I truly believe that this moment, and maybe more-so what likely happens after it, are the moment that solidified Lemongrab 1's complete shift into tyranny and unlimited cruelty. When I say that, I'm not just talking about the toy and his anger over it. It's not and was never (just) about the toy (seriously, this dude could and would have snapped over anything).
It's about OG LG's increasingly intense need for control over everyone and everything and his ever-growing layer of extreme rage over...stuff from the past...that is always there. Taking is a bit further, it's actually about how LG viewed himself and his impulsive/compulsive behavior at that point.
Background:
So, a lot of people seemed to have thought/still think that LG is lacking in self-awareness, but I think this couldn't be further from the truth. LG is hyper-aware of himself and his actions. He knows there's something "wrong" with him. He (and those around him) just don't know what. So everyone in and out of universe find it easier to just be vague about the problem or not touch it at all.
I'll tell you what I think is wrong with him though: He's can't figure out how best to showcase empathy with others, or even fully decide if he truly wants to at all, so he typically just chooses not to.
Wait, what? I'm actually arguing that LG1 is/was capable of empathy, you ask? YES I am. Because he was. The moments were small, but they were there and were very significant to those who care. OG LG had what I'd call "limited" empathy as well as "optional" empathy. He wasn't the best with others' emotions at initial meetings but he could understand concepts like that of insult, bonding (but couldn't do it himself at first) and not wanting to die or get hurt. (I might finish a post that explains some examples in the near future.) He also chose who it was he would bestow his empathy upon for random and not-as-random reasons. In this sense, he's not that different from many of us. I also feel as though he could have had his sense of empathy increased and smoothed out with proper nurturing. But as we all know, that didn't happen.
(Also, he seems to be naturally more persnickity and "intense/passionate" than others, including LG2 even. At least when it comes to his beliefs and convictions. People irl who are like that can imagine, because of how we sometimes come across to others, even if we're trying to change.)
Conclusion Expansion (1):
We see throughout his arc, that LG1 increasingly worsened over time. Not solely though. For a blip of a period, he seemed to be improving, happy even. That period was of course when he was still close with LG2. Then, the fight happened.
It was so violent, even without showing us the gore. I'm actually a little shocked that there are people who think that scene is mainly or even only hilarious. It's terrifying to me whenever I see it, to the point where I often prefer to avoid it. That scene, to me, was yet another example of how much of an abuser LG1 has become, since his physical or emotional abandonment and/or since his creation. Is that obvious yet? LG1 was not just "lol random11!! hahaha craziiii!". He was insanely abusive. He was arguably abused himself, but that doesn't change the fact that he was an abuser, too. He even showed all the classic signs of an abuser as far back as "You Made Me" but, really, it was truly first shown in "Too Young".
Slight (Noteworthy) Sidetrack:
His brother (Which I think was meant to be seen as being to LG1 whatever you wanted to see him as, homophobes!) along with Lemonhope, got the worst of it and perfectly illustrate two different types of lives and mentalities of many abuse victims. One becomes, in a way, very self-centered and wants to escape no matter what, but stops thinking about what the rest of his family may be going through, also. The other wants to help others going through the same and won't leave them behind until the they have escaped on some level, even if it kills him (assuming he had the option to leave). And tell we don't know plenty of irl examples where other families also went through an older sibling or partner taking advantage of and mistreating a younger sibling or partner. (Don't think too hard about the LG's being "brother-lovers", alright? It's all symbolic, anyway.) Now a big question I and likely others have is this: Is he really "just like that?" Frankly, I think he partially or fully either inherited it or learned it from his experiences. Or someone else... But I digress. So yeah, I don't believe LG was just/solely born that way. Something about him changed sometime after he was born, I feel. But again, I can't quite say what because it was left ambiguous.
Conclusion Expansion (2):
LG has always had issues with his view of self and it causes him much pain. He doesn't know how to express the problem, so he basically just spazzes out. He seemed to have improved once his brother/partner came along, but in fact, this was only an illusion. LG never properly healed from his trauma or bad habits, because no one—not himself and certainly not others—worked with him to treat and eventually heal that trauma and reverse those bad habits. (It doesn't mean they didn't want to, though.) It was only a matter of time before he lost it on his brother and people over something petty. Two beings can never be exactly the same anyway, "twin" or not.
When he attacked his best friend for the first time and in such a gruesome manner... Well...ask yourself how that scene probably continued for the two of them? We actually saw the least scary part. Here's what I now headcanon as being the "right after":
Tumblr media
(I'm not sure what the name of the artist who made this is. It's an amazing and very emotional piece, though.)
So with those awful images in mind, I think LG1 after devouring most of his own partner, may have paused for at least a moment, as LG2 managed to crawl away and look at him with such fear and hurt (perhaps looking like a reflection of himself) that LG1—if his self-awareness was on 100 that day—looked back at the mess he'd made of LG2's body and how their relationship would never be the same now, and decided "Haha wow...I AM a monsteerrrr!!!!". And from there, he decided to just lean into the persona completely. After all, what did he have to lose? What important figure in his life up to this point didn't see him that way, anyway? Now even the partner he once loved and who once loved him, did too. Might as well accept it and just solely act like what everyone already knows him to be. Which to LG means just act like his usual self, btw. Control freaks like him can only relax for so long...
It should also be noted that despite what we see LG1 do to LG2, that he doesn't completely devour him (why, we don't know) and that he gave him (likely created for him) a tool that would allow him to still move around and didn't give him a shock collar. So LG2 is still a cut above the others in LG1's mind, it seems, but that doesn't mean that things hadn't reached rock bottom for them. They just had further to go, is all. LG1 clearly no longer pedestalized LG2 anymore (and vice versa) and on some level likely blames LG2 for how he himself chose to react (pretty on-brand for both of them). Hence why, like some abusers, he seemed to now be withholding affection from LG2, wouldn't hear or accept LG2's own thoughts and opinions, (may have) starved him and why he pushed him down into and kept him in a subordinate position (something we once actually see him physically do to him at the dinner table).
And that, everybody, is why that scene in AFMSG is so significant; and imo, devastating.
Oh and here. Have another self-aware Lemongrab, far beyond post brother-attack:

Lady & Peebles and You Made Me airing back to back (at least on streaming services) is such an interesting pair because they’re both PB-centric episodes that have...opposing viewpoints of her scientific mind, almost. Lady & Peebles shows her reliance on gadgets and ends with her besting someone in hand to hand combat BECAUSE her scientific mind gives her the upper hand, and then You Made Me turns around and goes “your science made this problem, figure it out”. She does, in the end, give Lemongrab a friend, realizing the bitter qualities she instilled in him (as you’ve discussed before with her creating him being an accidental mirror of her own bad traits), which is an emotional answer...but it’s still helped along by science allowing her to create life. And then there’s her outfits for them, which creates a huge visual disparity between the two episodes! A cute pink parka and science long johns for L&P, and then what I can only describe as a 1950s mom look for YMM. There’s a lot happening in both of these episodes for her and I think s4 was when all of these ideas were coalescing into a more concrete, multifaceted character, which is neat to see happen (again. Lol I’ve watched this season too much) Thoughts, O Adventure Time expert and fellow PB Appreciator?
Woop! This is a fun analysis to wake up to!
You’re right, season 4 is when they really took a step up with Peebles.
Adam Muto said that the crew were afraid they were writing the same stories with Finn and Jake all the time. So they changed the status quo up by having Finn find a new love interest, and started working on other characters, even having eps that don’t even feature Finn and Jake at all.
Princess Bubblegum was one of the many beneficiates of this change in focus, and the most immediate. There are a large number of season 4 eps designed to build her character up from Finn’s unrequited love interest into the mad scientist dictator she was always meant to be - “Goliad”, “Princess Cookie”, “Burning Low”, “Lady & Peebles”, “You Made Me”, “Reign of Gunthers”, and finally “The Lich”. And what’s incredible is every single one of these episodes shows a completely different side to her, as visually demonstrated by how she wears different costumes - different “masks” - in each of them. The use of outfits as “masks” would persist with Bubblegum’s character for the rest of the show,  including some heavy symbolism in the finale itself and Obsidian.
For example, PB dressed like a mother in You Made Me, and she dressed like a goofy teen in Sky Witch, but in neither episode did she choose those outfits because that was what she knew she was doing. It was all coincidental, in-universe.
...
Through costume design the writers explore different aspects of their characters, and can make them feel like completely different people on an episode-by-episode basis. This really helped the characters translate to the audience.
So you’re right. This is when things started coalescing together. The crew had a fun character to work with who they had neglected for the previous 2 seasons, and damn, they took that bull by the horns straight away. They were also able to write a lot more stories than before, so this was a good time for her.
This would continue in season 5.... but not under Pen Ward - Pen left the show, but he was still working on the videogame about PB’s origin. When Adam Muto took over, he greenlit 3 episode concepts by Jesse Moynihan that were written about Princess Bubblegum - “The Suitor”, “Wizards Only, Fools”, and “The Vault”. He and the writing team also put together “Sky Witch” and gave that to Jmoyns/Acasta too because why not, they were doing a great job.
Anyway it’s at this point you begin to see the writers taking different approaches. Jesse (and Ako) liked to focus on Peebles as an individual.  But Tom Herpich wrote episodes that focused on her relationship to others, like her citizens and Lemongrab - this is where Peebles as a “god figure” was mostly written in, especially since Tom wrote “Goliad” way back in season 4 as his first ever story concept that got approved, and he also worked on “You Made Me”.  And finally, Cole Sanchez and Andy Ristaino usually worked on the eps that focused more on her darkest decisions as leader - “Rattleballs”, “James”, “The Cooler”, ”Hoots”. (They didn’t conceptualize those eps, they just happened to board them.)
In season 7 everything kind of settled down and rather than having entirely different sides of her personality about in each ep, she was written as a bit more consistent from then on. I mean, Peebles in Bonnie and Neddy>Varmints>Stakes>Broke his Crown>The Thin Yellow Line all still feel like very different sides to her character, but there are consistent elements across all those eps. Those elements relate back to the events of The Cooler and the season 6 finale - being more careful and considerate of others after scaring away her citizens and friends.
But then in season 10 you got some of that wackiness back. Like in “Blenanas”, which could not feel any more different from “Gumbaldia”, despite both eps dealing with the same subject matter of preparing for the war. Then in “come along with me” and “Obsidian” she is literally written by 4 different board teams in each, so all the characters get a shift in how they’re presented in each eighth of the episodes!

I know ‘it’s not that deep’ but it’s so unnerving that in Ducktales, Fethry Duck was left behind to go mad from isolation (Shown by the warnings the show itself provides) and all we see is him delighted to be reunited with the same family that left him behind in the season 2 finale and in the semi-canon DT comic (Aka Scrooge and Donald).
Like, how mentally broken and submissive a person have to be to not show any sign of bitterness/sadness or at least demand answers after being practically tortured for years?
Last time I saw an autistic coded character being locked away for being destructive it was Lemongrab in Adventure Time, and welp, he eventually became season finale-tier villain... But what generated all this rambling was a two-hour-long conversation with a friend on how Tangled is a series that all the cool villains are a direct answer to the protagonist's actions and fuck ups... And this is beautiful.
Anyway, I can't really picture Fethry ever becoming a villain, but I wonder what a proper development of this character could be... I like his random seemly aggressive and creepy phrases and I think they were written there to show how clueless he is, but it could be also interpreted as true resentment slipping through the cracks... But honestly, that's just probably just because Adventure Time trained me to look for subtext in absolutely everything Tom Kenny says.
I think it fits the character to eventually have a melancholic break down than to get angry and lash at people. If he went through all that shit and he still happily smiling and frolicking around I can assume he must be the kind of person that internalizes everything. I wonder what could make him drop this façade and how long can he keep that up...
And why; Is he afraid to be rejected again? Why was he rejected in such a brutal way in the first place? 'Explosions'?
A friend pointed me the Stepford Smiler Trope which deals with a character "obsessed with projecting an image of wholesome happiness in order to be accepted by their peers" but that is deeply hurt/depressed inside and I found it very fitting and very very sad, but one of the best descriptions on how I felt about DT!Fethry.
It's funny because comics' Fethry has this borderline obsession with being Donald's (Spinel) best friend, following him around and being hella clingy and now DT!Fethry has an actual reason why this character would act this way with anyone who gave him any crumb of affection.
Well, I don't think I really have a point, that's just some analysis I had to take out of my heart. I don't have hopes that any of this will be addressed in the canon material but at least I can give my input to all the fanfic writers/roleplayers/fan artists outta there and hopefully read your much appreciated feedbacks.
Just picture this, being left alone in a damp tomb for 4+ years by your family and when you finally see them you're just... happy...
Kinda remembers me that Black Mirror episode they isolate this virtual reality woman on a blank reality for so many years that she is absolutely delighted by the idea of being a living Alexa just to have something to interact with.

Id: a screenshot from an adventure time episode showing Lemongrab 1, Crunchy and Princess Bubblegum sitting together one a red bench swing. Crunchy is snuggling up into her lap, and she is saying to Lemongrab “You see Earl, candy people are mad special.” which is written as a black and white subtitle at the bottom. ED.
I find it quite sweet that pb chose crunchy out of all the candy people to teach Lemongrab about affection and stuff. Crunchy is really cousin chicle so it’s kinda cute that this scene was actually a family meeting, and that the person she chose was really a relative.
I wonder why that is? Maybe because Chicle would be more forgiving if LG did something wrong as he’s something like his nephew, or maybe Lemongrab as part of the family, knows what happened or has some vague idea and will feel more comfortable with crunchy as a result. Though I doubt Pb would tell him so that’s unlikely. Or maybe crunchy’s presence is some sort of clue to who he really is, and a sign that in the same way Chicle got fixed to be more candy like, Pb is also trying to make Lemongrab act more like a proper candy person in this scene.
In addition to this Manfried, who’s really Aunt Lolly, appears in Too Young as the one who announces Lemongrab’s arrival before we even see him, and later on Lemongrab 1 suspends a lemon person from the ceiling and makes them announce people’s arrival like Manfried did.
So that’s TWO characters who are secretly Pb’s family members who appear in Lemongrab episodes. I think maybe there’s also a parallel between Lolly, Chicle and Gumbald as people Pb created to be family members who failed to fulfil that function, and Lemongrab as a failed experiment. I don’t know how intentional this was but it’s a very nice detail.
