Pillow Promises
Seems the new “sleeping” trend these days is satin pillowcases. That is one of the Christmas presents on my granddaughter’s list last year that I purchased for her for $49. So, when Bed, Bath and Beyond was having its store closing sale, I bought two at $4.50 each. I wanted to see if what “they” said was true and at that price, it was worth the test. So, I put one of those satin pillowcases on…

Hope Keeps You Going
And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.Romans 5:5 It is hope that keeps you going keeping the monsters at bay. I heard this statement on an App called Lectio 365 on 30 May. It really is true. You always have hope even in the most dire of circumstances. I wear a tape measure bracelet which is…

Prayer of approach
God of justice and mercy, as I open my heart to You now, comfort me where I’m unsettled, and unsettle me where I’m comfortable. Challenge me and change me, disturb and rearrange me, not for my own sake but for the sake of those who are hurting and helpless, ostracised and oppressed. Amen.

Today is the Feast Day of St Teresa of Calcutta. Let us draw inspiration and courage from her faithfulness, courage, and love. It is stronger than any political or economic system - in the end such love will triumph over suffering and injustice. ‘There is a terrible hunger for love… We all experience that in our lives – the pain, the loneliness. We must have the courage to recognize it. The poor you may have right in your own family. Find them. Love them… Give yourself fully to God. He will use you to accomplish great things on the condition that you believe much more in His love than in your own weakness.’ - Mother Teresa Here is a beautiful devotional reflection from #Lectio365 https://lectio365.24-7prayer.com/share/devotional/2022-09-05/day Today on Lectio 365 https://www.instagram.com/p/CiHaZ9zK7xu/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

new year
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!2 Corinthians 5:17 (New International Version) When I was a child the ringing in of the New Year was an important ritual. My brother would be sent out the back door to walk around the front so we could have a “first foot.” To ensure good luck for the house the first foot should be a dark-haired male,…

Lenten Discipline
Every year I choose a different devotional book to take me through the 40 days of Lent. This year I’m also using the Lectio 365 app for morning and night devotions. It’s something I’ve used a lot over the last three month, especially when I’m out walking the dogs as it’s pace and tone is very therapeutic. This year the book I’m using is, Ros Clarke ‘Forty Women’. More than 40 women who are found…

The Legacy of our Brothers and Sisters
President Gerald Ford officially recognized February as Black History Month in 1976, calling upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” I lived during the era of despicable racism and marginalization against Black Americans. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “dream” has not entirely come…

Today is the 2nd of March, it is Ash Wednesday today. On this first day of lent Christians all around the world will say, “Repent, and believe in the Gospel”, or “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” This is a sober reminder of how precious life is, but also how precarious living is for so many persons, and for our planet. It is a reminder that the good news of God’s Kingdom is a matter of “righteousness and peace and joy” (Romans 14:17 NRSV). Today Pope Francis and many other leaders of Christian communities around the world invite Christians to fast and pray for peace in Ukraine. The public witness of the Christians (indeed persons of all religious traditions) for righteousness, peace, and joy is of great importance. Please join me in praying and fasting today. Here is a wonderful resource to guide you in this task.
