Sutphen East Ships It's 100th Fire Truck Manufactured in Northeast Pennsylvania

Sutphen East, a manufacturer of fire apparatus, completed its 100th fire truck, manufactured at its Wayne County Pennsylvania facility in the Sterling Business & Technology Park. This 3000-gallon pumper/tanker truck with a 600-horsepower engine is custom built for the Community Fire Company in Landingville, Pennsylvania and will be joining their fire apparatus fleet as a multi-use vehicle.

The Sutphen Corporation was established in 1890 with manufacturing locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. In addition to building custom fire trucks for 130 years, Sutphen East also operates as a service location repairing, servicing, or rebuilding any manufacturer’s fire apparatus.

Sutphen East, moved to Pennsylvania after outgrowing their New York State location in late 2016. The move to Northeast Pennsylvania allowed the company to expand operations in order to meet growing demand for their fire trucks.

According to General Manager Darryl Rhyne “The location in Sterling Business & Technology Park provides the infrastructure we need to expand operations and increase production. Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania (July 30, 2017) –  A Northumberland County man was hit and injured in Schuylkill County on Wednesday afternoon, according to state police.

The incident took place at 2:54 p.m., July 26, along Route 61, just east of East Adamsdale Road, in North Manheim Township.

According to troopers, Seth J. Savitsky, 20, of Landingville, Schuylkill County, was southbound behind the wheel of a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee while John M. Adams, 24, of Mount Carmel, was standing along the west shoulder. He suddenly entered the roadway and was immediately hit by the Jeep.

Adams sustained unknown injuries and was airlifted by a medical helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. Savitsky and his passenger identified as John Stiles, 30 from Minersville, were not hurt.

The crash remains under an investigation by authorities to determine the cause of the crash and the responsible party.
