respectfully, i simply do not care if it was meant to highlight that and i think that if it was trying to do that, it was a shitty way to do so. not only does it go against some book subtext characterization, but also fucks with my girl sally jackson and i will not stand for that!!! there are so many better ways it could have been depicted...for example showing percy in flashbacks of his fights with kids at school, getting a bit beat up and sally cleaning his cuts w/ a wash rag and some water and percy not healing with the water bc he doesn't know he's a demigod and cant do so yet (or bc its not natural water or whatever)...percy at the beach and getting kicked over by a wave just like every other kid...percy and sally having conversations about his troubles at school and getting bullied and them making a very intentional cut to a scene at chb where percy is undeniably seen as sort of above everyone because he's now a big 3 kid, but him feeling more lost and alone than he ever did when he was being bullied, maybe percy sitting on the sand by the lake and crying because he doesn't want any of this, he doesn't want to be a demigod, he doesn't want to have these stupid powers that alienate him from everyone else and make them scared of him because he's not a scary person and wishes more than anything that this is all a dream and that he's back with his mom on the upper east side and him very intentionally and basically outright saying that he wants nothing to do with the gods and divinity and that all he wants is to be a normal human kid......anyway i just think that this was a bullshit scene and they could've done better and my examples may not be the best but i thought of them literally as i wrote this post and ur telling me that the fucking team of writers with access to the author and the books couldn't come up with something better????? i fucking hate it here
