mash characters as taylor swift albums:
trapper: 1989; immaculate vibes, party central, city boy, tough act to follow
klinger: fearless; “in my best dress/ fearless” (enough said), unhinged, talks about home/family a lot (i.e. fifteen, the best day)
margaret: reputation; tough on the outside but secretly soft, bad bitch, donald penobscott was her getaway car
potter: debut; horse girl
radar: speak now; all about coming of age/loss of innocence, both are country™️, hawkeye looks at radar and “never grow up” just plays on a hoop in his head
winchester: evermore; so much older and wiser and I-, but both are intellectuals and value alone time
bj: midnights; just unhinged as hell, bj definitely feels like everybody is a sexy baby and he’s a monster on the hill, he is the mastermind, sweet nothing feels very him and peggy
sidney: lover; this album has its shit together and so does sidney, also he’s such a cinnamon roll, he deserves this
and finally, I saved the best for last…
hawkeye: double feature of red and folklore; yes he gets two albums- I’ll break it down
red: early seasons hawkeye, he’s happy free confused and lonely at the same time, but both the album and hawkeye are concerned with the passage of time, both experience a wide range of emotions, and both have a deeply ingrained sense of what should be (and it’s a deeply ingrained sense that’s being tested), and they’re both rebellious in nature
(if you are so inclined “the last time” is him saying goodbye to trapper and “begin again” is him meeting bj)
folklore: later seasons hawkeye, concerned again with the passing of time but this time in reference to childhood vs. where they find themselves now, both want to go home but can’t, both are concerned with a need to perform for others despite hawkeye’s shattered edges glistening, both are concerned with the idea of “madness” and what it means to be labeled as “mad”, also “they told me all of my cages were mental so I got wasted like all my potential and my words shoot to kill when I'm mad I have a lot of regrets about that I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere fell behind on my classmates, and I ended up here”

Fanfic Writer Ask Game
👻 What is your wildest headcanon?
The one that consumed me most recently is that Sidney was a visiting professor at Hawk's medical school in Chicago and they had an entanglement there, which made it very interesting when Hawk caught sight of Sidney driving away from camp after evaluating Klinger—
There is no basis for this at all, which is why I consider it wild. It's just going to be very fun to write in the future.
🦋 Which character is your favorite to write?
BJ BJ BJ BJ BJ BJ. I know he's not everyone's favorite—in fact, for several of my followers, he's their most despised, and I can get why—but I love getting to tap into his skull in a very specific way. There's a degree of kinship there that I don't talk about very much anymore but that makes him impossible for me to shake.
🦈 Which character is the toughest to write?
Hawkeye, you son of a bitch. It's that protagonist syndrome. I've never liked writing the main character of anything because everyone has a very specific way of viewing them, and often they have more fanon widely applied to them than anyone else, so I get stressed if I don't follow exact fanon too. There's always so much to forget about them and so much room for doubt. But I'm trying to figure him out anyway. It helps when I remind myself that my specific iteration doesn't have to match anyone else's and I will still find an audience no matter what.
💥 What is one canon thing that you wish you could change?
I was musing today about how I wish they'd done more with Mulcahy's slow descent into wanting to be a part of the Army's system, craving recognition from them, etc. I would love to see him have to struggle with the incredibly violent history of the Catholic church and recognize that he's becoming one of their weapons in a way that he never intended, but that was probably a bit too much to ask. THAT'S WHAT FANFIC'S FOR!!!
🎁 Have a piece of a WIP you want to share? Here is a snippet from a Trapper/Hawkeye glory hole fic I have percolating, because it's the one closest to being done!
"That's it, sweetheart," Trap breathes, and Hawk's eyelashes flutter as he turns his attention back to the heavy cock bobbing in front of him. "I ain't picky, all right? Whatever you got for me, I'll take it. Today's been a..."
Silence. Hawkeye pushes one hand against the wall for stability, waits. But the longer the quiet stretches out, the grayer his mind becomes. He's not the only one who lost a kid today.
"...well." Trap huffs out a laugh without a bit of amusement in it. "I mean it. Anything."
In that moment, he makes a firm decision. Hawkeye's gonna suck Trapper's brain out through his dick. It's the least the guy deserves, and it's the most Hawkeye can get.

hawkeye but if someone already asked him klinger pls
I'll do both!
send me a character and i’ll list:
favorite thing about them
Hawkeye:
The gay jokes honestly. I love everything about him, I mean I just wrote meta the other day about Hawkeye and death as a theme lol, but let's be real here I literally only started watching Mash for Hawkeye's gay flirting. Everything else is just an awesome bonus.
Though also to expand on that it helps that Hawkeye is literally like the exact type of character who is incredibly easy to read as bi because of it. Like, if most other character types made nonstop jokes about wanting to fuck dudes in the military in the 1950s I would actively take it as evidence that they're straight. But Hawkeye? Whose 2 major character attributes are: making jokes as a way of communicating his feelings and antagonzing the military by flaunting his non-military traits with very little concern for potential discharges? Come on.
Klinger:
How genuinely into crossdressing he gets. How much work he puts into his wardrobe, how he starts caring about fashion, becomes pro at tailoring, the scene where he talks about it with Sidney and Sidney tells him it's cool, giving Margaret his wedding dress... even later on I love that he keeps wearing the fur coat and pink housecoat even when he otherwise stops crossdressing.
There's a lot worth saying about how at the core it's a dude in a dress joke and transphobic implications of his character in general and some moments in particular, but like, for the most part the vibes with Klinger are exactly what I want when it comes to gnc characters, particularly for the time, intent schmement. It's fun as hell.
least favorite thing about them
Hawkeye:
file not found. I don’t even really wanna say the misogyny, because I consider that more a writing flaw of the early seasons that the show just ended up pinning on Hawkeye because everyone else (aside from women’s showers peeker Radar which got conveniently forgotten about) was gone by the time they went feminist.
Actually wait no I do have something: the bootlicking lol. In later seasons when the show gets more pro military sometimes, there are episodes where Hawkeye just goes along with dumb military shit and seems to try his best to fulfill his role as a captain, and I fucking hate to see it. For an example, Promotion Commotion. Or say, Morale Victory where, in contrast to earlier seasons where he was very reasonable and apologetic in not granting Klinger a discharge on the rare occasion he had the power bc it would fuck him over if he did, in this he's annoyed about Klinger just wanting a 3 day pass.
I got headcanons to explain this, I think you can argue it does make sense for Hawkeye as a character who is so dependent on his relationships with other people to lose his defiant edge when his friends are now Potter, Margaret, B “stop trying to change things you can’t change” J, and even Klinger has succumbed. But it's not a good look for the show bc my headcanons aren't canon.
Klinger:
Does Klinger even have flaws? I guess the fact that he's into commitment before sex according to Ain't Love Grand, because I would like to think he and Trapper fucked once or twice but that makes it difficult lol.
favorite line
Hawkeye:
HOW can I possibly choose one?
The carry a gun rant, I guess, it's iconic for a reason. But I'm also slightly obsessed with how impossible it is to read "You [married]?" "Somebody's gonna have to get me pregnant first," as anything but a not at all veiled come on.
Klinger:
Every time he bitches to himself in Arabic.
brOTP
Hawkeye and Margaret. I love them, I love them, I really truly love them. I love that they’re not romantically interested and not even BFFs, they have very little in common, they don’t really even like each other as people, and I don’t think they’re likely to remain close after the war, and yet despite all that they fill this really personal, emotional niche for each other where they’re each others’ go-to emotional support. It’s really interesting and unique imo.
Also I love when they get protective of each other. Margaret stepping between MP and Hawkeye in Peace on Us, Hawkeye shielding her in Aid Station, Margaret physically pulling Hawkeye out of danger in Comrades in Arms, Hawkeye distracting her with twenty questions in CAVE, etc.
Klinger:
Klinger and literally everyone except Potter, but I guess I'll go with Klinger and Hawkeye, especially in the early - mid seasons. They have this vibe of like, not quite clicking interpersonally, but still being like, allies? The way when BJ and Potter replace Henry and Trapper Hawkeye seems to turn to Klinger more often for a while (probably a result of Jamie Farr joining the main cast and the writers needing to find ways to incorporate him, but it fits really well). The way Klinger is the only one comfortable chatting with Hawkeye in the finale phone scene. Hawkeye telling Klinger to wear a slip under his uniform when he gets psychosomatic hives, "Klinger it's us, you don't have to pretend with me," Klinger having Hawkeye and Trapper's section 8 signatures on standby in the first few seasons, Klinger trading his food from home for a magazine about Maine for Hawkeye... there's just a lot of good stuff there despite Hawkeye being a dick sometimes.
OTP
Hawkeye:
I don’t feel like I have an otp for Hawkeye because I want him to fuck basically every dude he interacts with aside from Radar, including original characters, but if one ship beats out the others slightly it’s Hawkeye/Trapper. They’re not all that interesting, but they have great chemistry, they’re a ton of fun, and while Hawkeye is a character who's fun to torture, ultimately I'd still like him to live happily ever after with the kind of dude who would ride on the side of a helicopter just to pick up an order of ribs with him.
Klinger:
I don't have an otp for Klinger either, but I've got no beef with his canon romance with Soon Lee and I think it's thematically appropriate and kind of cute, especially if I'm headcanoning Klinger as some flavour of gq, which I generally am. I got on board when she said she wanted to see him in a dress.
nOTP
Hawkeye:
Hawkeye/a woman. I see him as bi but that doesn't mean I want to read about him in a relationship with a woman. Not even an ot3 thing. If I have to pick specifics, I'll go with 2: Hawkeye/Margaret, they are perfect as friends but their relationship is ruined for me the instant it turns romantic.
And Hawkeye/BJ/Peggy. My thoughts on poly irl are whatever, I've been in open relationships and had fun, I have poly friends, it's cool and great for some people. My thoughts on poly in fiction are I inevitably get angry on behalf of at least one of them, and I'm only interested if the relationship crashes and burns in an epic way. I can get into a ship having occasional threesomes, but that's about it.
Also like, I don't think it's ooc for Hawkeye at all, I just don't want it, but tbh I do think it's ooc for BJ lol, he'd be the weak link that would cause a three way divorce there. Without a novel's worth of character development I cannot imagine him being emotionally mature enough for poly.
Klinger:
I got nothin. I'm open to pretty much every Klinger ship I've seen someone mention. I guess maybe I'll say Klinger/Hawkeye, because in contrast to most dudes they interact with, and kind of ironically lol, I mostly get the vibe that he and Hawkeye have 0 interest in each other sexually.
random headcanon
Hawkeye:
The reason the gay jokes dried up so hard in the later seasons is that something happened. BJ caught Hawkeye with someone and made things awkward, they made out and made things awkward, maybe Hawkeye got investigated, whatever, but I need to invent a reason for it. Also the nice thing about the first two is it adds an interesting layer to BJ's jokes persisting.
Klinger:
Opens a dress shop back in the states eventually, which lowkey ends up a favourite of drag queens and trans women. It's what's gotta happen.
unpopular opinion
Hawkeye:
I guess at least in this era of fandom my unpopular opinion is that he and BJ would make a terrible couple. I think they're lowkey in love with each other bc it's a fun way to watch the show but I think they would be a disaster if they actually got together.
Klinger:
I view him dropping the dodge attempts as a tragedy and I hate that he gets promoted.
song i associate with them
Hawkeye: idk lol. let's say Mutiny, I Promise You - The New Pornographers
Klinger: i wracked my brain for something more original but I had to give up and go with Draft Dodger Rag - Phil Ochs
favorite picture of them
I’m changing this to like... visual moment in time. I don’t have favourite pictures.
Hawkeye:
For some reason my first instinct is to say Hawkeye coming off 30+ hours of surgery, exhausted and extremely keyed up, and walking on the furniture and juggling BJ’s socks in Ain’t Love Grand. Idk there are a million more iconic moments but that’s just quintessential Hawkeye to me.
But also as a bonus, the way he disgustedly picks up a gun between thumb and forefinger like it's a dead rat in a few episodes, like Deal Me Out iirc.
Klinger:
The statue of liberty shot at the end of Big Mac had me in tears. Iconic.

okay here’s me blathering about “Hawk’s Nightmare” for ~1350 words
I’m going to talk about Frank and Margaret’s conversation in post-op first because it doesn’t fit with the other themes of the episode that I want to talk about, but I still like that scene, so I want to talk about it anyway.
Margaret’s “I happen to be an engaged person” is very Gender, but I also like her “I’m a one-man woman” because … well, she is. Sure, she had a long affair with a married man, but that affair could have been born from mutual loneliness as much as from attraction, and as far as I remember she is never in a relationship with both Frank and Donald. When it’s clear that Frank is never going to divorce his wife, Margaret calls their affair quits. And she commits to her relationships, even if the men with whom she is involved don’t share her commitment. She sticks with Frank through countless empty promises, and Donald leaves her, not the other way around. (Also, I hate to say it, but “I know God exists because you exist” is quite a romantic line.)
    Now for the on-topic stuff.
From the opening scene we see the impetus for the themes of Hawkeye’s sleepwalking and dreams. The episode opens with Hawkeye lamenting on the age of his patient. This isn’t the first time this has happened; he and Trapper had the whole “I’d swear this kid is really a kid” scene in “Sometimes You Hear the Bullet.” But Hawkeye seems especially worked up about this patient’s age, even countering Frank’s claim that their patients are proud soldiers by saying that they’re babies. So it makes sense that this fixation on the youth of these soldiers would lead to dreams about people from Hawkeye’s own childhood.
The youth of Hawkeye’s patient is further cemented in a later scene when Hawkeye is visiting with him in post-op. The patient hadn’t even heard of Korea before the war started. And when Hawkeye says that he’s from Crabapple Cove, the patient says that it sounds like a place where Winnie the Pooh hangs out. There’s something unnerving about a soldier talking about something as childish as Winnie the Pooh. It reminds you that he’s just a kid whose government forced him into this war.
The episode is full of little moments that show the care that the 4077th has for Hawkeye. When BJ sees him asleep in bed without a blanket, he puts a blanket over him. When Klinger and Radar catch him sleepwalking for the second night in a row, they very calmly and gently get him back to bed without waking him up. When Hawkeye wakes up Radar in the middle of the night because he’s desperate to check on a friend back home, Radar places the call without hesitation, and Colonel Potter asks Radar to call Sidney but does so discreetly because he doesn’t want Hawkeye to know. Even Frank kind of tries to offer comfort depending on how you look at it. I know Hawkeye doesn’t take comfort from Frank saying that there’s nothing in the dark that isn’t there in the light, but in the right circumstances I could see how that sentiment could be comforting to someone. (And I have a weakness for Potter saying “Anything I can do, son?” while putting his hand on Hawkeye’s back and then encouraging Hawkeye to lie down for a while.)
The episode has some good demonstrations of Hawkeye feeling like he has to be funny, whether the staff has imposed that expectation or whether he’s imposed it on himself. You have “Come on, don’t pull my leg. The shape I’m in, it’ll come off,” and he says “Frankly, I think I’m pregnant” when he’s talking to Margaret and BJ about his first nightmare. It could be humor as a coping mechanism or to keep up with his jokester expectations or perhaps both.
But I also think it’s interesting that when BJ says there’s no need to make such a big deal out of a little sleepwalking and one nightmare, Hawkeye agrees with him and says that he wouldn’t if it were happening to anyone else. But wouldn’t he? At this point Hawkeye has a history of treating traumatized patients with compassion and taking their trauma seriously, even if he doesn’t always understand the trauma. “Mad Dogs and Servicemen” is perhaps a bit of an exception, but that was mostly because he was trying to follow Sidney’s advice when Sidney couldn’t show up to talk to the patient himself, and behind that firmness I think he still cared about the patient, and he thought that the patient probably didn’t like him because of his treatment.
We get a taste of Hawkeye viewing his home and his childhood through rose-tinted glasses. He says that Toby Wilder was his best friend as a kid, but when he calls Toby to check on him after his nightmare, Toby only cares about the money that Hawkeye supposedly owes him. And then a few seasons later, Hawkeye talks about his love for his cousin Billy, who almost drowned him.
I love the way that the writing describes trauma without using medical or psychiatric terminology. When talking about his fear of going to sleep, Hawkeye says “It’s one thing to live in a shooting gallery, but now I’m being attacked from inside. […] How do I defend myself from myself?” And there’s the conversation between Potter and Radar after Potter has called Sidney, when Radar talks about the fight against the war. When Potter says that the jokes aren’t working anymore and Radar says that the other side is winning, it reminds me of Alan Alda saying that Hawkeye doesn’t fundamentally change but rather that his coping mechanisms stop working. And Hawkeye openly says that he’s scared. I always love when characters express their fear outright.
I love that Hawkeye and Sidney’s scene is framed as a conversation rather than a formal psychiatric appointment. Their friendship and mutual respect has been well established by this point, but this is the first extended scene of Hawkeye being a patient and Sidney being his therapist (we got a little of that in “O.R.” but not to this extent). Hawkeye is relieved that Potter called Sidney, and he quickly talks very candidly about his fear of falling asleep, and Sidney invites Hawkeye to share his own insight into his mental state without trying to twist Hawkeye’s words. “So you’ve been walking in your sleep. What do you think it means?” And as a bonus we get a taste of Sidney’s sense of humor with his “losing your marbles” joke.
I haven’t seen “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” yet and won’t until the 28th, but from what I know about Hawkeye’s arc in that episode, there is some foreshadowing/reversal in this episode. In this episode Hawkeye is worried that he’s going crazy and eventually asks Sidney point blank if he is crazy, but in GFA (from my understanding) Hawkeye doesn’t think he needs help. In this episode Hawkeye tells Sidney that he’s very reassuring and that he has a great warside manner, but in GFA he calls Sidney a son of a bitch. I’ll definitely revisit this episode once I’ve seen GFA.
I also love and appreciate that Hawkeye’s sleepwalking and nightmares come from the trauma of the war without Hawkeye dreaming about the war itself. It’s a refreshing twist on war-related PTSD tropes. He dreams about childhood friends, and in the dreams they’re still children, and the dreams all end with the kids dying violently, and Sidney compares those dreams to the children that Hawkeye has had to operate on. And Sidney saying “But there’s a lot of suffering going on here, Hawkeye, and you can’t avoid it. You can’t even dream it away” is yet another indication of Hawkeye being fully, painfully aware of the war and another indication that Hawkeye is drowning in the war and cannot escape the totality of it.
So overall it’s a great episode that presents it subject matter authentically and in ways that ring true to the characters’ personalities.

1]Hi Thea i just rewatched GFA because i'm a glutton for punishment??? because the day of atonement is upon us and i'm in the mood to challenge myself to feel big feelings? i'm sorry i have to heckle you with it but... it was even MORE this time, when I wasn't busy being knocked out by the actual plot and there are some things we need to discuss because WHAT THE FUCK.
2]@final dinner: bj's DUMB "met some1 at the bar in guam, Begged ME 2 RuN oFF with HEr& i fiGuRed YOLO! jkjk" AS IF that's the last impression BJ wants to leave. & hawk's looking @ him like r u fuckin serious y r these idiots laughing/he fake laughs but repeats sarcastically "he's just kidding" angry bc it's like BJ's mocking him. HE wants/has ALWAYS wanted to run away w him--at least from the war & when he looks at BJ his insides r truly screaming YOLO so PLZ tell me i'm important 2 u I NEED it
3] vs hawk's genuine glee for klinger's engagement news and Potter's toast: may they have a long, wonderful, life, filled with love and peace, and so may we all. cut to: hawk and bj, sitting pressed against each other, bunch of visible space to either side of them at crowded table. clink glasses, don't make eye contact, hawk looking defeated, tight attempt at smile; bj w stubborn attempt at pleased expression because Y wOuLDn'T HE B HAPPY???
4] NOT TO MENTION Hawk's own little class notes: hi guys, i have no lust for life anymore actually maybe just make that no lust. my head's a haunted house and "I don't want to have just a bunch of anonymous patients [lovers] parade through my office" i want to be surrounded by people i know and care about and really, i'd like to settle down and feel safe..Hahaha have some jokes for the road.
5] AND THEN at the wedding, Potter *has been parent figure in all 3 weddings* is framed by Hawk and BJ standing behind him...AND THEN when Mulcahy asks for the ring it just... cuts for a sec to a close up of Hawk and BJ's misty faces. WHAT?then just throwing wedding vows in there "to love honor and cherish, to have and to hold, in sickness and in heath [in war AND in peace??] 'til DEATH do you part" Followed IMMEDIATELY by Potter's fucked up crying face and then everyone scatters to the wind???
6[sorry hit asks limit but i won't take the hint] and THEN bj DOES make a promise[vow] and then hawkbeej DO part BUT DID NOT DIE?? ANd then BJ throws himself down a fucking steep hill on his motorcycle and keeps on the gas like he cannot be there one second without Hawk which is just like FUCK U, U left HIM there WITHOUT U!!! HOPE U R HIGH-TAILING IT TO SIDNEY BITCH U NEED SOME INTROSPECTION. sorry about this but it is ur fault and i'm spiraling [again... GFA Spiral 2.0 High Holy Days edition]
My brain just about started to leak out of my ear by number 4 and by number 6??? FULL ON MY BRAIN IS A SMOOTHIE NOW. GOD HOW AM I GONNA SURVIVE REWATCHING THIS????????????? HAWKEYE SAYING HE DOESN’T WANT TO BE A SUPERSTAR PLAYBOY HE JUST WANTS TO SETTLE DOWN.....THE FINAL GOODBYE BEING SHOT EXACTLY LIKE A WEDDING???? ON GOD WE’RE GONNA GET YOU SOME WEED TO CAL M YOU DOWN BRO (I AM THE BRO)

Today on endless list of reasons I love M*A*S*H....
Every character on that show is flawed, and not just in a mild “Well they’re not quite perfect” sort of way. Almost every single character on that show (Except for maybe Nurse Kellye) has deep, fundamentally problematic issues with their character that the show basically thrusts on you and says “War is bullshit and it turns people into assholes”.
Don’t believe me?
Hawkeye was an alcoholic and a misogynist
Trapper, in movie (and I believe book) canon, got his nickname via rape
BJ Cheated on his beloved wife
Henry cheated on his wife with a girl half his age, even contemplating abandoning his family over her
Margaret had seriously tyrannical tendencies (especially early on)
Radar was a thief and a cheat
Potter lied to get into his precious army
Charles was a massive egotist
Klinger was a queerphobe (Yes, shocking, but true)
Mulcahey, despite being a priest, had an aggressive side and has gotten violent in the past
Frank’s greatest flaw is occasionally the writers tried to humanize him, which one should never do to a fascist.
All of these characters have issues of some sort, with Hawkeye, Trapper, and Henry being particular offensive. Klinger being a queerphobe, under the lens of current culture, could be considered internalized queerphobia, but when viewed in the originally written context, the notion of him being labeled as gay and a transvestite meant (to him) that he was a freak.
However, with all these problems, the closest thing to a rationalization you get is “War is a bitch”. The problems, even if resolved, are never shown as forgiven (and certainly not forgotten). The show was episodic, which means much of the one offs are never mentioned again, but the problematic elements leave a stain on the character. So yeah. If you want a show where everyone is TV Happy and TV Perfect, don’t watch M*A*S*H. It’s not the show for that.

RULES: Choose any three fandoms (in random order) and answer the questions, then tag 10 people.
I was tagged by @dramaticmusicality (Thank you love, I had an absolutely insane start to my week so this is very delayed.)
Three fandoms:
* The Monkees
* Star Trek: The Original Series
* M*A*S*H
[side note, I happened to pick 3 fandoms that all have extra stuff so for simplicity I will only be discussing the respective TV shows for each. That means Monkees show characters only, none of the later TOS movies, and neither the movie nor the book of M*A*S*H.]
The first character you loved:
* Hmmm I think it might actually have been Davy, because I’m a bit of an anglophile (I’m not proud of it). That changed pretty quickly to Mike though.
* I think Spock. The first couple episodes were weird. Either Spock or McCoy.
* Oh gosh. Radar. So much. But the first three seasons are wacky so.
The character you never expected to love so much:
* Peter. I kinda expected to hate him because he was the dumb one, but then he actually had very clever lines that were just dumb because he read the room wrong and he had the smile of an angle so like. Yeah.
* I guess Scotty? He just kinda...snuck in there when I wasn’t paying attention and then it was like omg who is this guy who loves the ship more than people?
* Major Houlihan. Margaret was a top tier bitch early on, especially in the first 3 seasons, but as the show progressed she got a hell of a lot of development and by the end she’s great. I might actually do a rant post about her at some point because seriously, she kicked down some pretty stiff barriers.
The character you relate to the most:
* Personally it’s Mike. But realistically if you were to ask my friends who I was most like, it would be Micky. I’m a massive introvert who doesn’t know how to do things by half so when I’m around people I’m super “on” which means crazy energy, I never shut up, and I sing whatever is in my head. Also my hair. And my fashion sense lol. (I quite like a lot of his season 2 looks. Confidence is key.)
* Spock. Logic is awesome. Also he gives off very strong ace vibes.
* Father Mulcahy. Partially because I read him as ace (are you sensing a theme?) but also because he functions as the “bartender character” that the other characters all take their problems to and that happens to me a lot. (I’m told I’m a good listener.)
The character you’d slap:
* Mr. Babbit. Stop trying to throw the guys out! Also Davy occasionally.
* Chekov. He is adorable but he can be a really creepy horndog sometimes. And he’s a little shit too.
* Early Hawkeye. He’s a real dick. Funny, but a dick. Realistically though it would be Frank Burns, obviously.
Three favorite characters (in order of preference):
* Mike, Peter, Micky/Davy (I can’t leave one guy out! Also these are very slim margins, each of the guys have their own appeal to me.)
* Spock, McCoy, Uhura
* Father Mulcahy, Margaret, Klinger
A character you liked at first, but don’t anymore:
* Argh. Davy I guess. It’s not that I don’t like him anymore it’s just that I like Mike more now.
* Um. Eh? Chekov? Idk? His character kinda changes to suit whatever he needed to be in that episode so, sometimes he’s really obnoxious and sometimes he’s fine.
* Kinda Col. Blake? Just, he’s such an incompetent commander and that really bothers me if I think about it too much. A sweet guy but because of the comedy style of the show in the first three seasons he was a real dope.
Three OTPs:
* Gosh ummm...I don’t really ship any of the guys. They’re children!  Fuck it, Mike and Princess Gwen. They were made for each other.
* Ughhhh I don’t ship these people either argh! There is a lot of subtext between the main trio (Kirk, Spock, McCoy) so I guess OT3? If I had to choose?
* [Spoilers!] Klinger and his eventual wife, Soon-Lee. They were cute. And he stayed in Korea for her! Awww!
I tag @annaofwonderland, @shorty-blackwell, @nezclaw, @ewok-sith-lord, @faerievampireelf, @little-niggah-sugar, and @monkees-world if y’all wanna. (no pressure!) Also if anyone else wants to jump on this train, go for it!

holdontohopelove replied to your link: M*A*S*H - Best of Hawkeye/Margaret
Any chance you’d be willing to post the list itself to Tumblr? The link doesn’t work and I would loveeee the list of episodes.
Sure, here it is!
The following is a list of episodes with good HM scenes (or, on occasion, just good Margaret scenes, because I love her sfm) and a brief description of why I'm including it. Some are big important scenes, others are just little tiny things that no one but a die hard shipper would even notice.  I'm doing this primarily for my own reference, but if someone else gets something out of it, all the better.
 Season One
Ep. 12  Dear Dad - First kiss!  Hawkeye walks up to Frank and Margaret, asks Frank to hold his drink, grabs Margaret, dips her and kisses the bejeezus out of her!  Margaret is speechless and weak-kneed when he's finished. Frank refers to Hawk as an animal and Margaret agrees, but she obviously does not consider that to be a bad thing.
Ep. 21  Sticky Wicket - Hawkeye is deeply troubled about a patient who isn't getting any better.  Margaret assisted him on the surgery and seeks him to out try and figure out what went wrong.  Hawk is kind of rude to her actually, but when he eventually figures out the problem, it's her he hauls out of bed to operate with him.  While they are still a long way from the friends they end up being, it's obvious in this episode that they respect each other professionally.
Season Two
Ep. 6 Kim - Because it's Hawkeye she clings to when she's scared, not Frank.
Ep. 11  Carry on Hawkeye - Everyone has the flu but Hawkeye and Margaret and they have to work together to keep things running.  There's a great scene where they have to give each other flu shots - Hawkeye, of course, wants his in his tushie.  There are definite shades here of the friendship they eventually develop.  In fact, he even refers to her as 'nurse, friend, and all round good egg', and you can tell she's pleased.  One of my Top 10 HM episodes
Ep. 14  Hot Lips and Empty Arms - Nothing specifically HM (and there's a bit of Margaret/Trapper) but I'm including it anyway because it has some great Margaret scenes and she is just so stinking cute when she's bombed.
Ep. 15  Officers Only - Hawkeye tries to convince Margaret to agree to allowing enlisted men in the new O club.  There is dancing involved.  Frank is jealous.  Unfortunately he fails to convince her, but it's cute while it lasts.
Season Three
Ep. 4  Iron Guts Kelly - A visiting General dies in Margaret's tent and she seeks out Hawk and Trapper to help her cover it up.  Nothing specifically HM, but a really hilarious episode.
Ep. 7  Check-up - I'm torn on this one.  I decided to include it only because Hawkeye giving Margaret her check-up was cute, especially the fact that he shaved before it.  But then he basically calls her fat.  Huh?  It also features Drunk!Margaret which I love, but is kinda heavy on the Trapper/Margaret which I don't.
Ep. 9  Alcoholics Unanimous - Frank outlaws booze, so of course Margaret, Hawk, and Trap get drunk together and then make fun of Frank when he finds them.  Really funny scene.
Ep. 10  There's Nothing Like a Nurse - Because she quite enjoys her goodbye kiss.
Ep. 13  Mad Dogs and Servicemen -  Margaret and Hawk have words several times when she disagrees with the way he treats a soldier with what he believes to be hysterical paralysis. Also, Radar is bitten by a dog and needs rabies shots and there is a wonderful scene where Margaret kindly reads him a letter from a girl wanting to correspond with a serviceman.
Ep. 16  Bulletin Board - Because they're laughing and covered in mud.
Ep. 19  Aid Station - Hawkeye and Margaret (and Klinger) are sent to an Aid Station at the front.  There's a cute scene on the way where Margaret won't let Hawk change a flat tire because his hands are too valuable.  Once there, they work incredibly well together and the professional respect between them is obvious.  She tells a wounded soldier that he's lucky because Hawkeye is the best. He encourages her to start a surgery without him.  There is a sweet scene where they talk at the end of the day and end up going to sleep curled up together.  And when they get back to camp, he kisses her on the cheek.  One of my Top 10 HM episodes.
 Season 4
Ep. 3  It Happened One Night - Hawk and Margaret work the night shift in Post Op together.  When they relieve Frank, he says he's leaving them to "carry on".  The look they give him is priceless.  Later, a can of beans Hawk was heating on the stove explodes and gets all over them.  Margaret laughs as he uses his finger to taste the sauce on her face.  Best exchange of the night:  Patient:  "I hate your guts."  Margaret: "My guts are not here for you to love."  One of my Top Ten HM episodes
Ep. 10  Dear Peggy - Because she gets in the jeep as he admires her best side.
Ep. 11  Of Moose and Men - Hawkeye has to operate on a Colonel he's offended.  Margaret is very impressed with his work and tells him as much.  So naturally, he hits on her and pisses her off.  Just prior, there's a sweet scene when she covers him with a blanket as he sleeps in Post Op.
Season 5
Ep. 1  Bug Out - While the rest of the camp bugs out, Hawkeye, Margaret, and Radar remain behind to look after a patient who can't be moved. There is a nice scene where they talk about being afraid.  Later, as they are about to leave the camp, Margaret tells Hawkeye he should be proud of the lives he's saved.  He tells her she should be as well and kisses her on the cheek.  One of my Top 10 HM Episodes
Ep. 2  Margaret's Engagement - Because he fixes her boo-boo and tells her to knock off the insensitivity.
Ep. 3  Out of Sight, Out of Mind - Because he knows her by her perfume.
Ep. 5  The Nurses - Hawkeye helps a nurse Margaret has confined to quarters have a rendezvous with her husband by "quarantining" him in Margaret's tent.  Margaret's pain at being rejected by the other nurses is heartbreaking.
Ep. 7  Dear Sigmund - Because she's playing poker in the Swamp wearing boxer shorts.
Ep. 11  The Colonel's Horse - Margaret needs an appendectomy and Hawkeye is the only surgeon she wants.  He pays her a tent call for a pre-op exam but she won't let him because he won't lay off the sexual innuendo.  She ends up waking him in the middle of the night to do the operation.  There is a cute scene at the end where he takes his patient for a stroll around the compound.  She thanks him for doing a wonderful job and he offers her a guarantee: every thousand miles he'll probe her chassis.
Ep. 19  Hepatitis - Hawkeye is examining everyone for hepatitis, including Margaret.  Hawkeye: "You're going to get a shot too."  Margaret (shaking her brush at him):  "So are you, kiddo."  She confides in him a problems she's having with her fiance's mother, he admires her caboose, she tells him off.  He tells her she's magnificent, inside and out.  Aww.
Ep. 21  Movie Night - Because he wants to hear her sing.
Season 6
Ep. 1  Fade in, Fade out - Because he was drooling over her bikini picture.  And because he was genuinely interested in why she was upset.
Ep. 7  In Love and War - Included only for the HM scene at the end where they commiserate over Hawkeye's lost love and Margaret's cheating husband.  Otherwise, not at all ship-friendly.
Ep. 9  Images - Margaret becomes upset after hearing that a stray dog she's grown attached to has been killed by a jeep.  Hawkeye sees that she's emotional and tries to get her to talk.  She doesn't want to admit to it and accuses him of always trying to get in her head. Eventually he succeeds in getting her to break down, and he holds her while she cries.
Ep. 12  Comrades in Arms (Pt 1) - Hawkeye and Margaret are stranded alone together in an abandoned hut while on a trip to the 8063.  They find comfort in each other's arms while shelling goes on all around them.  In addition to the kissing (squee!), I love that when she is going to sleep, she says to announce himself if he's coming over to her in the middle of the night so she doesn't brain him with a big stick thinking he's the enemy.  Hint, hint, perhaps?  One of my Top 10 HM episodes.
Ep. 13  Comrades in Arms (Pt 2) - Margaret is kind of weird and OOC in the first half of the episode and it's a uncomfortable to watch her being all mushy and trying to make Hawkeye into something he's not. The ending scenes though, first with Hawkeye confessing to BJ that he felt something for her, and then the two of them making peace, make up for the bad beginning.  The whole 'who's smiling' bit at very end is adorable.  One of my Top 10 HM episodes.
Ep. 14  The Merchant of Korea - I love the scene in Margaret's tent when Hawkeye goes to invite her to the poker game.  Something about the way she casually picks up his hand and moves it out of her way instead of just commanding him to move it is adorable.
Ep. 15  The Smell of Music - Because of her brilliant three-wave plan to clean the boys and stop the French horn.
Ep. 16  Patient 4077 - Margaret loses her wedding ring and Hawk and BJ buy her a replacement.  She's a bitch about it at first, but after Klinger sets her straight, she says she likes it better than the original.
Ep. 19  What's Up Doc - Margaret confesses to Hawkeye that she fears she may be pregnant.  It's touching how concerned he is for her.  They perform surgery on Radar's rabbit's ovaries to do a pregnancy test. In my Top 10 HM Episodes
Season 7
Ep. 1  Commander Pierce - Because she's beautiful when she's overworked and because since when did he join the army?
Ep. 2  Peace on Us - I could write a book on this one.  I love how the only thing that gets though to Hawkeye when he's ranting about the army's rule change is Margaret's confession that Donald has run out on her.  And later, when they hug at the red party and she puts her hand on the back of his head and pulls him down like she's about to kiss him...swoon... (see icon). She's kind of all over him in this episode, both during the party and the next morning.  In my own personal head-canon, they totally fell off the 'just friends' wagon that night. On of my Top 10 HM episodes.
Ep. 7  They Call the Wind Korea - Because he never let's her get away with 'I'm fine' when she's not.  And because she lays her head on his shoulder.
Ep. 12  Out of Gas - A couple of cute moments.  While they're playing poker he calls her 'toots' and she doesn't even get mad.  When she passes out from the ether, he revives her.   And when she wakes him up to go into surgery, he ask her to help him up, which she does, and get him something to lean against, preferable her, which rates a smile.
Ep. 13  An Eye for a Tooth - Hawkeye's hungover and Margaret's in an incredibly good mood.  She starts tickling him at the breakfast table and then loads his coffee up with sugar, leading to a food fight!  Charles manipulates them into a prank war, but they team up and get him in the end.
Ep. 16  Inga - Even though Hawk spends most of the episode chasing another woman, I have to include this one because Margaret completely pwns him in the scene outside the mess tent, telling him off for being sexist. I find his accusation of jealousy interesting though, in that he seems to mean he thinks Margaret is jealous of Inga professionally, but Margaret takes it to mean being jealous over Hawkeye's attention.  Seems like maybe he unintentionally strikes a bit of a nerve, even if that isn't what prompted the fight..  And then it's just sweet when she makes him go to the movies with her at the end and they walk off with their arms around each other.
Ep. 19  Hot Lips is Back in Town - Because he does his best to make sure she's okay after her divorce papers arrive, at least until he passes out.  And she is absolutely trying not to laugh when he interrupts the triage lesson.
Ep. 20  C*A*V*E - Hawkeye and Margaret help each other work through their phobias (claustrophobia and loud noises, respectively) when the 4077th is forced to evacuate to a cave during an attack and then they have to take a critical patient back to operate on him.  BJ:  "Boy, I can't leave you two in the backseat of anything."  Um, what?  Has he seen things we have not? In my Top 10 HM episodes.
Season 8
Ep. 2  Are You Now, Margaret - A congressional aide is convinced Margaret is a communist sympathizer.  Nothing specifically HM, but it shows how far she's come that every single person was on her side.
Ep. 11  Lifetime - Because she's Hot Streak Houlihan and they work so well together.
Ep. 12  Dear Uncle Abdul - Because her valiant foot locker gave it's life so she might live.  Not HM, just really funny.
Ep. 13  Captains Outrageous - Because they really should own a bar together.
Ep. 14  Stars and Stripes -  After Margaret's date with Scully goes south, Hawkeye tries to give her a pep talk.  She includes Hawk in her list of failed relationships - I think this is the only time the events of CIA are ever referenced, however obliquely.  Later she describes her ideal man as being 20% her father, 10% Scully, 10% Hawkeye, 3% Frank Burns and 1% her ex-husband.  I love that he rates higher than Frank.
Ep. 16  Bottle Fatigue - Because she's the only one defending his cranky arse when he gives up drinking, even though he doesn't appreciate it.
Ep. 25  April Fools - Because she's Margaret the Menace and they steal her tent.
Season 9
Ep. 5  Death Takes a Holiday - Margaret, Hawkeye and BJ struggle to keep a soldier alive until December 26 so his kids don't have to remember Christmas as the day their father died.
Ep. 17  Bless You Hawkeye - Because she checks him for fever and sits by his bedside.
(Sheesh. What happened, Season 9?  Where be all the HM?)
Season 10
Ep. 3   Rumor at the Top - No HM, but Margaret's attempts at making Col. Potter sound senile are quite amusing.
Ep. 4  Give 'em Hell Hawkeye - Because they sit awfully close together even though there are more chairs.
Ep. 11 The Birthday Girls - No HM, but Margaret and Klinger are really sweet in this one.
Ep. 14  The Tooth Shall Set You Free - Because he refills her coffee cup without her even having to ask.
Ep.  15  Pressure Points - Because she makes a good catch.
Ep  16  Where There's a Will There's a War - Hawkeye writes out a will during a harrowing visit to an aid station.  He leaves Margaret his Groucho glasses to remind her of how much he enjoyed her rarely seen silly side.  There is a flashback of a sleep-deprived Hawk and Margaret making bad puns and cracking up while taking inventory in the supply tent.
Ep.  20  Picture This - Charles, BJ and Hawkeye are fighting and Hawkeye moves out of the Swamp. It's Margaret who goes to trick Hawkeye into going back, while Klinger and Father Mulcahy go to BJ and Charles.
Season 11
Ep. 1  Hey Look Me Over - Because they dance the Lindy Hop. Sadly, off screen.
Ep. 2  Trick or Treat - Because he really likes her sexy costume.
Ep. 7  Settling Debts - Not HM, but included because Margaret does such a bang-up job of stalling Colonel Potter.
Ep. 10  U.N., the Night, and the Music - Margaret takes an interest in a U.N. representative who has suffered an injury that has left him impotent.  He confides in Hawkeye, who tries to run interference.  Included because the U.N. guy originally thinks Hawk and Margaret are more than friends and because Margaret thanks Hawkeye for "trying to be a jerk".
Ep. 15  As Time Goes By - Margaret decides to make a time capsule to commemorate the 4077th.  Hawkeye volunteers to help and they spend the episode arguing over what would be appropriate to include, Margaret wanting a military theme and Hawkeye goes more for the human side of the war.  In the end she is more agreeable to his way of thinking after they hear the story of a chopper pilot's heroism and then when she sees the items he's chosen.
Ep. 16  Goodbye, Farewell and Amen - A couple of little things in this one, and of course, one great big thing.  First, when BJ leaves the first time, it's Margaret he chooses to have explain things to Hawkeye for him.  Then, when he gets back from the psych hospital and goes right into surgery, it's Margaret that helps him through it.  And what can I say about their final scene?  I love that moment of understanding between them where they each know exactly what the other is thinking ("So, ah, listen..."  "Yeah.") and then they just grab onto each other at the same time.  That was one hell of a goodbye kiss.  To me what is happening here is that they are admitting, to themselves and to each other, just how much more there was to their relationship than the friendship they had eventually settled into.  That their reasons for not being together, while valid as far as they went, were no longer important in the face of probably never seeing each other again. Also, all shippiness aside, this is an incredible series finale.  Charles and the musicians make me cry every time, as does BJ's final goodbye note. One of my Top 10 HM Episodes

@lesbianmulcahy tagged me to talk about which MASH character I relate to the most and im going to try and keep this short cause....we knOW i love to go on and on
ok so clearly i love radar more than life but im not sure i relate to him? (i say as if i didnt use him as half the inspo to use the name walter for myself)
i think maybe im an intersection between hawkeye and klinger-i come on very strong because im confident, but like once you get to know me i dont think you would describe me as like overbearing. I speak my mind even when i probably shouldnt; and therefore ive been told im insensitive sometimes. but at the same time i will pretty much do anything for people and i get taken advantage of like a lot. I relate to Klinger where everyone thinks hes being dramatic about wanting to leave and then everyone is mad when he finally goes awol. Klinger does so much and everyone uses him while it serves their needs and then they say shit about him. and in terms of hawkeye- the way he is so vocal about his likes and dislikes- like if i dont like something i say it which often “ruins it for everyone else”. All the times when hawkeye is like “this food is disgusting” “you are a stupid general” “that rule is dumb” he voices his mind. I also have like food texture issues so when he picks at his food im like iT mE. #representation ldkgjdslfkgj. there are a couple times when its clear that some of the others are “sick of his bitching and moaning” which ive got many times. But we all know hawkeye isnt just complaining or “being negative/a downer”, because he is compassionate, hes just saying how he feels. People are just upset they feel the need to bottle their thoughts up  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
also i relate to that scene in mail call three when radar and hawkeye are talking about their parents hhhhhhhh when hawkeye points out radar is upset that he no longer has his mom to himself and when hawkeye says he thinks the reason his dad is alone is because he refused to like the others 🚬😑
got preachy and ranty there but kdfjgklsdjfgskljd
i tag @hawksnightmare and @by-thunder
