Manchester Photo Diary 2022
Manchester Photo Diary 2022
Manchester was home for me for over 5 years, and it is where my husband went to University and where we got married. We still have so much love for this city and visit as often as we can (our hairdresser is still based here!). So a couple of times a year we head up from Cornwall for a bit of city life and a decent haircut. I always take so many photos and thought I would start sharing them in a…

Week One
Over the summer one of the projects which was set was to design a interior structure of a room of which we had been in. This room had to be no bigger than a shoe box size and be assisted with sketches. I decided to base my first project off my bedroom. Using an old shoe box I attempted to replicate its interior. For this I used card, fabric for the bed and curtains, the original wall paper my room which I had left over, lots of glue and fairy lights. I also did a few sketches to assist the structure from a range of different angles to help give a more accurate picture. These summer projects had to be presented and brought in to the first session which we then gave and received feedback from. One of the first assignments for week one was too look at the buildings around Manchester and to find a building which we found particularly interesting or stood out to us in a certain way, which we could base our initial project on. I had a good time looking around the buildings in Manchester and taking in its wide variety of architecture. The buildings which drew to my attention the most was the Kimpton Hotel and the John Dolton Library. I sketched these two buildings and made back ground research of their history which I found to be really interesting. Sketching these buildings, along with the lecture on perspective with Simone Ridyard really helped me to get to grasps on perspective when looking at an image or building. I looked at both buildings closely after initially deciding to look at the Kimpton Hotel I redirected my attention to looking more at the John Dolton Library. I did this because I found the John Dolton Library to have more of an encompassing atmosphere and held more variation in regards to detail and structure.  I also based my three word strategy on this, and began looking at 3 words which I thought would be best used to describe its interior.

Architecture in Manchester
Having visited Manchester only twice before moving here, I was quite excited to explore the city and its architectural history. We walked along a given route which took us from one point of the city to the other side of the city. I noticed that there was a big divide between old brick buildings, such as the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel and modern, only just recently built buildings such as the Civil Justice Centre. This probably stems from the large construction boom which is part of a governmental project to boost economy growth in the North of England. After the architectural walk I read a few articles about the increased construction in the city, which I noticed as well when I was exploring the city.
Based on that walk, we had to choose a building which inspire us, historically interested us or sparked some sort of significance to you.
A few years ago I visited Whitworth Gallery with my Art A-Level course and I remember really loving the modern extensions of the building which reach out into the park which surrounds the Gallery. Revisiting it again was sadly not possible as it was closed due to the pandemic and when it reopened I was quarantined. This building is so diverse with its different architectural styles and its long ever changing history, that it provides perfect inspiration for our 3x3 Interior. The task is to design a space that can be any shape, style or height but it can only be 9 square metres big. I have a few ideas for now but lets see what my actual design will be... :)

Another Year in Manchester, Vermont
Tumblr media
For our ten year anniversary, Nathan and I (yet again) returned to Vermont. It was a last minute decision and I’m so glad we did. We didn’t stay at the same place as last time, we chose The Manchester View instead and… whoa. Such a lovely place to stay. It had the feel of a hotel from the ‘90s, if that makes any sense. It just sort of felt untouched. It was more rustic than modern, but still well maintained and in the middle of seemingly nowhere in the middle of the mountains. The front desk so graciously upgraded us to stay in the Robert Frost suite when I mentioned (not casually) that we were celebrating our anniversary (SIDENOTE: always tell people when you’re celebrating something, everyone always wants to help you celebrate in any way and it’s always sweet) (and if you feel weird telling someone that you’re celebrating: grow up! Everything should be celebrated, we’ll be dead one day). Robert Frost lived and wrote in Vermont for some of his life and he’s a pretty celebrated figure in Vermont, thus the room name choice.
Tumblr media
Above Photo: Robert Frost greets you
Tumblr media
Above Photo: Bip, clearly a Frost fan
They were very pet friendly and the grounds had tons and tons of grass for Baby Dog to run around in. The pool was great, although I’d find greatness in any pool, let’s be real.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Above Photo: Make my coffin a clawfoot tub, please/thanks
Tumblr media
Above Photo: Literally looking for a frog to bite
The staff was so friendly and accommodating, I’m so, so glad we chose to stay here.
Tumblr media

There were so many frogs and chipmunks, it was unreal. As if someone requested only the cutest creatures surround this beautiful property.
Tumblr media
Above Photo: The view from our front porch
So what I’m saying is… I guess we’re Vermont people now? Even Nathan said, “Maybe next year we should just book Vermont a little earlier to get a price break” and my jaw sort of dropped at the notion of obviously we’re Vermont people now. And honestly, maybe we are? Is this my life? Living a cool, Vermont-in-the-summer, better-than-you kind of life? In any case, great vacation, great place. Other highlights of the town:
There’s a little meat & cheese shop in town (Fortuna’s Sausage & Italian Market) where they put out SAMPLES FOR PRETTY MUCH EVERY CHEESE & MEAT THEY SELL. Tianna would’ve been in heaven. Why on earth don’t all cheese places do this? So fucking smart. The cheese that I loved and left was this one.
Tumblr media
Above Photo: Find this cheese. Eat this cheese. Available at Fortuna’s, Manchester, VT
Always love an independent bookstore.
The burgers at Zoey’s Double Hex are still great.
Great service and food at Gringo Jack’s (Baja fish tacos, especially).
For our anniversary dinner, we were treated laughably bad at The Chantecleer (scathing Yelp review coming soon) so we got our asses out of there and went to Copper Grouse at the Kimpton Taconic Hotel (where we stayed last year) and had a great meal/time. It’s wild to me what a trained chef can do to an ordinary chicken. Medals should be given out.
Such a great trip, love a Vermont.

Cheap Flights to Boston - Best Boston Hotels Overview
If you plan on visiting Massachusetts’ capital and largest city, whether for business or vacation, you might need to start your planning by looking into cheap flights to Boston. You will find a lot to experience in this city, from the first United States public park to interesting art districts.
Tumblr media
The first thing that you need to decide is whether you are looking for flights to Boston only or want to include Hotels & Car rentals to make your trip as a bundled deal. You always have an option to search for all three at once or separately. A few websites give a discount if you book everything all at once.
Are you flexible with your travel dates? If yes, most of the times Cheap Flights to Boston are usually available on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturdays along with return on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Sundays. If you are flying from another country, international flights are often cheaper when departing Monday through Thursday.
Since Boston is such a central city for business and vacation, both at the national and state levels, so most of the times flights to Boston are filled with business and vacation travelers throughout the year. Even if you plan to fly there during low-season, there will still be a lot of travelers on the plane. This means that rates don't often fluctuate all that much. You can still find great deals, though - especially if you travel in February.
Nearby Airport Choices for Cheap Flights to Boston
No rule says you have to fly straight into BOS. There are additional airports in the area such as the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport and Bradley International Airport. American Airlines and United Airlines also carry out significant operations from the airport, including daily intercontinental flights. This makes it effortless to find flights to the city from anywhere in the world. However, don't limit your search with these airlines. Some low-cost carriers sometimes offer cheap flights to Boston as well. Also, extend your search to one-way tickets and round trip tickets, as either option could be cheaper depending on when you want to fly and where you're flying from.

New Post has been published on https://www.qubeonline.co.uk/91-awards-announced-for-the-bali-national-landscape-awards-2019/
91 Awards announced for the BALI National Landscape Awards 2019
NEWS FEATURES FIRE & SECURITY SUBMISSIONS RESOURCES
Out of 145 entries submitted in 2019, 91 National Landscape Awards have been bestowed on 63 members of the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI), with several members winning an Award in multiple categories.
Since the event was brought back in-house in 2018, numerous records have been achieved including the most entries received in the past 10 years as well as the highest number of entries from first-time entrants at 51, 35% of the total entries and an incredible record of 34 International entries.
Notable wins include five Awards for Registered Contractors Nurture Landscapes, four Awards for Garden Club London and three Awards for Rosemary Coldstream MBALI of Rosemary Coldstream Garden Design. Registered Contractor Sky Garden, who recently joined BALI also took home an Award for its scheme ‘One Bayshill Road’ in the ‘Soft Landscaping Construction (non-domestic) – Under £500K’ category whilst Bridgman & Bridgman, another new member, won an Award for its roof garden at IKEA Greenwich.
The BALI National Landscape Awards’ expert Adjudication Panel, led by John Melmoe was joined by BALI Chief Executive Wayne Grills, Operations Manager Kirsty Wood and Events Project Manager Leah Brookes for a three-day deliberation marathon in late August where each of the 145 entries were scrutinised.
Reflecting on this year’s tough deliberations, John said: “The meeting was extremely heated at times, with in-depth discussion on each and every scheme submitted. This is a very healthy process with a blend of good humour thrown in. The complexity of some projects entered is always interesting and shows the diverse nature of the industry in which we are involved. The majority of categories were well supported, but we noted a very strong presence from the domestic categories. The quality of both the presentation and precision of execution within this sector were extremely high. The commercial sectors have some serious competition coming through.
Each year the range of projects submitted continues to grow and we need to portray the industries’ capabilities to a wider audience within the construction industry and beyond. The Awards provides the platform for showcasing the industries skills and has increased in stature to become the leading event in the landscaping calendar. I cannot wait to gauge the anticipation of the members at this year’s ceremony.”
Leah, who is managing the event from BALI Landscape House, said: “This is my first BALI National Landscape Awards event and I have been so impressed with the high standards achieved by members. With a record number of entries since 2009, it proves that the Awards remain the largest landscaping Awards event in Europe, celebrating and rewarding schemes in the UK and internationally. I personally had the pleasure of joining some of the Adjudicators on their site visits this year, to get a firm understanding of the process. It’s true what they say, they really do leave no stone unturned when judging is underway.”
Wayne added: “Looking at the results this year, it’s clear our members are some of the world’s most talented, highly skilled landscape professionals, with projects that continue to set the benchmark in quality standards. Using cutting-edge technology and incorporating state-of-the-art materials helps to define these schemes and sets them on pedestals that are in a league of their own. Members have also demonstrated ways they have invested heavily in training and attaining industry- recognised accreditations, an exemplary achievement considering budget restraints and fluid economic market conditions. Congratulations to each and every one of you and I look forward to seeing you displaying your achievements on your own website and marketing materials.”
With the ceremony fast approaching, it has been confirmed that sport and lifestyle presenter Mark Durden-Smith is the host for 2019 and tickets are now on sale and expected to sell-out quickly upon the release of this year’s winners. The ceremony will be held on Friday 6 December at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London with Headline Sponsor and BALI Registered Affiliate Green-tech. WILLIAMSTOWN — Waterford Hotel Group announced three appointments at the Williams Inn. Kevin Hurley has been appointed general manager, Kevin DeMarco was named executive chef, and Darcy Lyle is director of sales.
The new Williams Inn, located at the corner of Latham and Spring streets in Williamstown, will open on Aug. 15. Owned by Williams College, the inn will replace the current Williams Inn, which will continue to operate through July 31.
With more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Hurley has dedicated his career to the hospitality industry by taking on various roles at several hotels and resorts in the U.S. in addition to his native Canada. Prior to joining the Williams Inn, he worked as assistant general manager at the Kimpton Taconic Hotel in Manchester, Vt. He has also held posts at Omni Hotels and Resorts, the storied Charles Hotel in Cambridge, and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. He completed his undergraduate studies at Bishops University in Sherbrook, Quebec and later went on to earn a master certificate in hospitality management from Cornell University.
A graduate of Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I., DeMarco has honed his culinary skills up and down the East Coast over the past 13 years. He joins the Williams Inn team from the Newport Restaurant Group in Newport, R.I. His last post was as chef tournant at Castle Hill Inn, a historic Relais & Châteaux property in Newport. He also worked at Grande’s Bella Cucina in Palm Beach, Fla. and Public Kitchen & Bar in Providence. He is a SWE-certified specialist of wine and spirits.
Lyle brings a wealth of knowledge to the Williams Inn with 28 years of experience in the hospitality and sales industry. Prior to joining the Williams Inn, she worked in sales at the Clark Art Institute, and has also held positions in operations and sales at numerous hotels throughout the upstate New York region, as well as the New York State Hospitality and Tourism Assoc. She attended Herkimer Community College, where she received a degree in tourist facilities and management promotion. While in school, she interned with Disney, where she found her passion for the hospitality and tourism industry.
Inspired by the architecture of local area farms, the new, 58,000-square-foot inn is built of stone and wood, with interior design that is reminiscent of a contemporary New England farmhouse. The inn will feature 64 guest rooms, a fitness center, a full-service restaurant and bar, and a combined 3,200-square-foot meeting and event space that includes a 2,800-square-foot ballroom and an additional 400-square-foot space directly adjacent to the ballroom. Event-space reservations are being accepted for dates starting Sept. 1. The property’s exterior features a 3,500-square-foot green space that can be tented for outdoor functions.
The inn will house a 62-seat restaurant, the Barn offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as two private dining spaces. During prime weather months, outdoor seating will be available on the rear of the property.

Of course, you’ll need an excellent venue to match your excellent event location, so we’ve rounded up this list of contenders in various sizes, locations and tastes for any possible event on your agenda — giant conferences and exclusive VIP soirees alike.
San Diego Event Venues
The Prado at Balboa Park
Fleet Science Center
Horton Plaza Park
USS Midway Museum
BASSMNT
The Deck at Moonshine Flats
Miss B’s Coconut Club
Petco Park
Herb & Wood
Hilton Gaslamp
Mess Hall at Liberty Public Market
House of Blues
Kimpton Hotel Palomar
Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego
Moniker General
The New Children’s Museum
San Diego Wine & Culinary Center
Parq Event Center
San Diego Convention Center
Hard Rock Hotel San Diego
1. The Prado at Balboa Park
Photo Source: The Prado Balboa Park
Location: Balboa Park
Capacity: 2,500
Architecture and history buffs will love an event at the The Prado at Balboa Park, which was originally built for the 1915-16 Panama-California Exposition to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal. A careful three-year renovation maintained the integrity of the Spanish, Moorish, and Mexican architectural design that includes two dozen original, hand-painted, wooden stencil designs. The various indoor and outdoor event spaces—22,000 square feet in all—offer all sorts of options for different sized groups.
2. Fleet Science Center
Location: Balboa Park
Capacity: 10–1,000+
An event at the 30,000-square-foot Fleet Science Center could include anything from a sit-down dinner among interactive science exhibits (including a six-and-a-half-foot “tornado”), a lovely view of the Bea Evenson Fountain designed by noted local modernist architect Homer Delawie, or an IMAX movie in the 274-seat Giant Dome Theater. Plus, this location is minutes from downtown!
3. Horton Plaza Park
Location: Downtown
Capacity: 1,900+
This urban plaza includes three distinct rental spaces over its 53,000 square feet: a modern hardscape, a green historic park and a coliseum-style bowl.
The venue has historical clout. The first iteration of this National Historic Landmark was sold to the city of San Diego by its namesake Alonzo Horton in 1885; the recently restored adjacent Broadway Fountain was established in 1910; and John F. Kennedy spoke at the plaza during the 1960 election.
The plaza’s newer features include an interactive pop-jet fountain and light sculptures.
4. USS Midway Museum
Location: Downtown
Capacity: 150–4,000
If you prefer unique venues to the traditional meeting rooms and ballrooms, consider the USS Midway—the United States’ longest-serving aircraft carrier during the 20th century, in use from 1945-1992. It now serves as a museum and unique event venue with 50,000-square-feet of usable space on the flight deck alone, which doubles as an exhibit of 50 years of naval aviation.
5. BASSMNT
Location: Gaslamp Quarter
Capacity: 20–1,000+
Take your event underground at this glam, sophisticated nightclub in a historic property of exposed brick and wood. Event-goers will enjoy the state-of-the-art audiovisuals, hand-crafted cocktails and, hopefully, the dance floor. At just a 10-minute walk from the convention center, this is an especially good option for a conference evening shindig.
Protip: While the Gaslamp Quarter is the official name of the area where BASSMNT and many of our recommendations are located, you’ll sound like a local if you say “Gaslamp District” instead.
6. The Deck at Moonshine Flats
Photo Source: The Deck at Moonshine Flats
Location: East Village
Capacity: 150
For an event with a down-home vibe, consider the The Deck at Moonshine Flats, which features a stage, 16 LED screens and games like ping pong, corn hole and shuffleboard. Plus, you decide if your event is indoor or open-air thanks to a retractable roof. This event venue is three blocks from the San Diego Convention center and connects to its sister property Moonshine Flats, if you want to expand your event to include line dancing at a flashy honky-tonk.
7. Miss B’s Coconut Club
Photo Source: Miss B’s Coconut Club
Location: Mission Beach
Capacity: 138
If you want to give event-goers serious San Diego beach vibes, then Miss B’s Coconut Club situated on the Mission Beach boardwalk is a prime choice. The 2,329-square-foot space has fire pits and tiki-inspired decor and specializes in creative rum drinks to boot.
Fun fact: The fictitious “Miss B” hails from the early 20th century when a developer saw opportunity to further develop Mission Beach’s “tent city,” where residents literally lived in tents on the beach. “Miss B,” a riff on “Mission Beach,” was the face of that marketing campaign.
8. Petco Park
Location: Downtown
Capacity: 46,000
While Petco Park is best known as the home to the San Diego Padres, it doubles as an excellent event venue with a prime downtown location and a stunning view of the bay. You can rent pretty much any part of it—right field (capacity 1,640), rooftop (capacity 375) or the parking lots (capacity varies because, well, it’s a parking lot).
They even offer interactive games, such as Whac-A-Mole, giant bowling and, naturally, an inflatable batting cage. Plus, a dedicated event management team is on staff to help.
9. Herb & Wood

Location: Point Loma
Capacity: 90+
The hip modern-day Mess Hall was once an actual mess hall in San Diego’s Naval Training Station built in the 1920s. Now this former training station is called Liberty Station and serves as a mixed-use development that includes Liberty Public Market, the foodie center of Liberty Station where Mess Hall resides.
First-rate cocktails are a focal point of Mess Hall, which prides itself in using local and small batch spirits and seasonal ingredients. Enjoy your cocktail in a clean, appealing space among quirky boat paintings by middle schoolers, which, due to their historic status, can’t be painted over.
12. House of Blues

This historic building retains its original crown molding and vault doors to the bank, while the open-air restaurant has its own unique vibe inspired by New York’s Central Park. Just for funsies, you enter the nightclub through a grotto tunnel. Once there, you’ll find a stage and LED TVs aplenty.

Plus, here you have panoramic views of downtown San Diego and San Diego Bay. And did we mention the facility is lined by palm trees? Not a bad way to “work.”

Grace turned 10. And what would I do to celebrate a big birthday of a family member? Damn right, we’d go on vacation. The Kimpton Taconic Hotel in Manchester, VT totally gets us pet people. The warmest welcome gift ever. I don’t even know how they found that picture of us! Happy Birthday, Grace Kelly!

8 luxurious — and expensive — vacations in the United States
(CNN)You name it, it can almost certainly be arranged.
Breakfast with a giant octopus? A private dinner from Wolfgang Puck’s team, served in your 6,000 square-foot compound? A chopper to give you a head start on a hike — or a better view of a volcano?
When money is no object, the sky is truly the limit when it comes to unique experiences, accommodations and frankly ridiculous levels of luxury.
Here are some of the United States’ most extravagant and exclusive vacation options for those ready to make a serious investment in getting away.
1. Heli-hiking, Alaska
Jumping on a helicopter to start a hike may seem a bit like cheating, but there are few better ways to experience the majesty of Alaska’s wilderness.
Anchorage-based Ascending Path has been running mountaineering expeditions for more than 20 years and consulted on an episode of “Running Wild With Bear Grylls” that featured President Obama and climate change.
In partnership with Alpine Air Alaska, they’ll fly you up to one of a number of glaciers, outfit you with crampons, helmets and harnesses and then guide you in exploring blue ice, crevasses, caves and more.
A sushi lunch break is followed with another chopper hop to take part in glacier dog sledding for the ultimate in icy adventures.
Prices start from $1,250 per person for glacier hiking plus dogsledding. Hiking-only heli-tours are available for about half that price.
World’s most luxurious chain hotels
2. Aspen living, Colorado
Aspen needs no introduction as an exclusive vacation destination, and living the good life doesn’t come much easier than at Castle Rim.
Naturally, this 750 square-meter property boasts sweeping views toward the Aspen Highlands, but the facilities and interiors may keep you cozied up inside.
Along with six bedrooms, there’s a private terrace with a huge hot tub, fire pit and al fresco dining, while the gym, pool table and wine room will also help keep guests distracted.
As the host, you’ll want to make sure you nab the master bedroom with its fireplace and private deck.
Rates range between $18,000 and $25,000 per night.
3. Sleeping under the stars, Hawaii
A cool quarter of a billion dollars was spent transforming the former Marriott Ihilani into the Four Seasons Resort O’ahu at Ko Olina.
With that kind of outlay, it’s no surprise that vacationing in the Aloha State doesn’t get much sleeker.
Although Mercedes-Maybach and helicopter transfers are one option, the 75-foot Four Seasons yacht may be the best way to arrive before you disembark to check into the Presidential Suite.
The yacht boasts a private Sky Terrace where you can sleep out under the stars, but only after a 7-course dinner with Cristal and wine pairings at the chef’s table presided over by executive chef Martin Knaubert.
Yacht excursion transfer, one night in the Presidential Suite and chef’s table from $20,000
The world’s best luxury dive resorts
4. ‘Dueling Volcanoes’ tour, Washington
The natural world doesn’t get much more awe-inspiring than in the form of volcanoes, and this private overnight tour from Evergreen Escapes showcases two of the United States’ most famous, up close and personal.
A private seaplane takes you first to Mount Rainier National Park for trekking, caving and elk, black bear and coyote spotting with guides around the 14,410-foot peak with its stunning meadows, waterfalls, forests and valleys.
After overnighting in luxury near Seattle, you fly up to Mount St. Helens to visit the sleeping giant that shook the world with its 1980 eruption. The lava dome, crater and pumice plains should all be visible.
From $16,000 for two people for the private, personally guided experience
5. ‘Over the Top’ leaf-peeping, Vermont and Massachusetts
New England leaf peeping rises to an eye-opening new level with this four-night experience with Kimpton Hotels.
Their “Over the Top” package includes two nights in the Presidential Suite at the Marlowe Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a private, helicopter ride to Manchester, Vermont, showcasing the area’s famous fall foliage display.
Bennett Cottage at the Taconic Hotel is your home for two nights in Manchester and The Copper Grouse and Bambara restaurants provide all meals, including a picnic to take on your half-day Land Rover driving experience to the summit of nearby Mount Equinox.
From $16,000 for four nights including dinners, picnics, tours and helicopter transfers
6. A presidential retreat, Hotel Bel-Air, Los Angeles
Feel like you need a bit of your own presidential pampering this election season? That’s where your own 6,775 square-foot Presidential Suite compound comes in.
The Dorchester Collection’s Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles is a glamorous Mission-style retreat for those wanting privacy — and your suite, complete with private pool and spa bath, more than provides it.
A two-night package includes an hour-long couple’s massage on your patio and a private dinner for 10 catered by none other than Wolfgang Puck’s culinary team.
A jacuzzi and a grand piano should help keep you entertained the rest of the time.
$55,885 for two nights
7 presidential suites around the world — and their eye-popping rates
7. Aquatic breakfast, Monterey Aquarium, California
A personal encounter with a giant Pacific octopus is one way to kick off a day to remember.
A very special package at the Monterey Bay Aquarium allows you and up to five friends to have a private breakfast created by award-winning Napa Valley chef Cindy Pawlcyn as you’re serenaded by a live string quartet.
Thereafter you have a wholly private tour of the world-renowned aquarium, which houses more than 35,000 animals and plants.
$4,400 for up to six people
8. Amangani, Wyoming
The ultra-exclusive Amangani resort sits at 7,000 feet outside Jackson Hole, Wyoming, overlooking meadows and pasture before the horizon stretches toward the spectacular Teton Range.
While you can choose from a number of elegant suites, the expansive Amangani Homes really bring the outdoors in with living spaces and bedrooms featuring views from all angles.
The four- and five-bedroom freestanding houses are outfitted with the amenities and design features you’d expect — from hot tubs to media rooms.
World class alpine and Snowcat skiing, horseback riding, biking and fishing are amongst the options on your doorstep, while Yellowstone National Park is only an hour’s drive away.
