high school crush part 2 || enid rhee x fem!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: enid comes over to start your science project.
warnings: none!
a/n: i am fully aware this is Katelyn’s character Elisia from T@gged, but for this non-apocalyptic au, Enid has the similar style to Elisia! hope u all enjoy! requests are open! just read pinned for rules :) i stated it in the first part, but you are an adopted Grimes child.
it was the end of the school day - finally. you placed your textbooks inside your locker and slammed it shut, pushing the lock around the handle upwards. you tugged on it once, making sure it was locked.
“hey!” a voice exclaimed from behind you. you turned around, face heating up when you noticed it was Enid. “hey, Enid.” you smiled.
“i was wondering if we could do the project at your house? i’ll buy the things we need for the project!” Enid said, holding onto the straps of her backpack.
“yeah, we can do it at my house. but you don’t have to buy everything, Enid. we could split the cost, i have some cash on me.” you responded, “i also usually walk home with Carl, but he’s staying back with Henry. so you could walk with me.”
“sounds great. are you ready?” you nodded and Enid followed you out of the building. “there’s a store right by my house. we can get the supplies there.” you told her.
“they have what we need to build this stupid volcano?” she asked with a laugh. you chuckled, “they should, yeah. we can get some snacks as well.”
“cool.” Enid smiled, looking down at her feet.the two of you walked side by side down the sidewalk, hands occasionally brushing against each other.
your heart was racing, and you were praying that she wouldn’t notice how nervous you were. Enid was coming over, to your house.
“did you look up any eruptions like the teacher mentioned?” you asked her. she shook her head, “nope. did you?”
“nope.”
Enid laughed, and again, you could’ve sworn it was one of the prettiest sounds you’ve ever heard. “god, i don’t even know why she would assign this. such an elementary school ass project.”
“right?! we’re literally seniors, we graduate in like three months. we do not need to be doing this shit.”
the store came into your sight the further you walked away from the school. you pointed to it, “it’s that one.” you made your way to the store and Enid opened the door for you. when the two of you walked in, you first went to the aisle of school supplies.
“what the fuck do we use to build a volcano? let alone… how to make it erupt? i fucking hate this class.” Enid laughed at your rambling, grabbing onto your arm for support.
“oh!” Enid exclaimed, her green eyes lightning up. she pointed to a box, “volcano eruption kit! we can use that. Mrs. Monroe won’t notice, will she?”
you grabbed the box and turned it around to read the instructions. “no, this is perfect. plus… i’m pretty sure she like, loves you, Enid. you could make a volcano with paper and she’d give you an A plus,” you joked, laughing harder when she hit your shoulder. “i’m right!”
“maybe… but no more of that! lets get some snacks.” she said, “grab whatever you want.” she told you.
you picked out a bag of your favorite chips, along with a bag of candy and a drink. she picked out hers and you walked into the checkout line, only one person was ahead of you two.
when they left you set your stuff on the counter, and both of you took your wallets out. “put it away.” Enid said. “i already told you, i’m paying.”
“and i told you we’ll split the cost.” you said back. “too bad.” she said, handing the cashier the money. you stared at her with disbelief. the cashier muffled a laugh as they bagged your items and gave Enid her change. “have a good day, you two.” they spoke with a smile. “you too!” you both said back.
“alright, my house is just down the block now. and i’m warning you now, my mom is home with my little sister and my baby brother.”
“i didn’t know you and Carl had younger siblings? i thought it was just you two.” Enid said, following you towards the direction of your house. “ah, yeah. their names are Judith and R.J. you’ll see them when we get there.”
you walked down the quiet neighborhood until you reached your house. pulling out your key, you inserted it into the doorknob and twisted it open.
when you stepped inside, two voices yelled your name. before you could respond, both Judith and R.J had clung themselves to each leg. you stumbled back and laughed. “hey guys.”
“we missed you.” R.J pouted, “aw, i missed you guys too. one more day of school and you have me for the whole weekend. okay?”
Enid smiled at the three of you, and then your mom appeared from the other room. “hey, Y/N! how was school?”
“it was good.” you responded. but then you remembered Enid was here, and your mother has never met her, and didn’t even know she was coming over.
“oh- i’m sorry. Mom, this is my friend Enid Rhee. we were paired up for a project and we’re gonna do it here. Enid, this is my mom, Michonne Grimes.” Michonne smiled at Enid and reached her hand out, “nice to meet you, Enid.”
“you too!” Enid smiled and shook her hand. “i love your nose piercing! how long have you had that for?” Michonne asked her.
“i’ve had for around a year!” she said. “it’s pretty! it suits you really well.” Enid smiled at Michonne’s compliment. “thank you!”
Michonne pulled R.J off your leg, “okay. i’ll let you guys start your project. let me know if you guys need anything!” she said as she walked away with Judith and R.J.
“we will, thanks Mom.”
you nudged your head towards the stairs, “my rooms up there. we can build this thing up there and blow it up in the bathroom.” Michonne froze in her tracks and turned back around.
“you’re doing what now?”
“oh, we have to build a volcano and replicate an eruption.” you answered casually. “can we blow it up in the bathroom?”
“clean up the mess or Enid is not allowed over anymore.” she said strictly, pointing a finger at you. you nodded slowly, “alright.” Enid held in her laugh, “okay, let’s go up.”
Enid followed you up the stairs and into your bedroom. when you closed the door, she started to look around your room. you had multiple posters of your favorite movies, show and bands. “i love your room.” Enid said.
your face burned, “thanks. it’s nothing too special.” you took the volcano set out of the bag and placed it on your bed. “i wouldn’t say that. it’s really cool.”
she then jumped on your bed, sprawling her limbs out completely. “oh my god and this bed. it’s so comfy.”
the sight of her laying on your bed made you feel warm inside. you stopped opening the set and smiled down at her. “you look cute like that.” you blurted, your eyes widening after you realized.
Enid blushed, and she tried her hardest not to smile widely. “yeah, you think so?” you shrugged, “just a bit,” you teased.
she sat up, taking everything out of the box. “alright, let’s build this thing and blow it up.”
the two of you started to form the volcano with the supplies given. “your little siblings seem really sweet, by the way. R.J seemed so excited to see you.” Enid commented as she focused on the volcano.
“yeah,” you chuckled. “he’s the sweetest little guy. and Judith, oh she’s just so precious. i just love both of them to pieces.”
Enid giggled, looking up at you. “he reminds me of my little brother, Hershel Jr. he’s just like R.J, the way he just clings to you when he sees you.”
“oh, you have a little brother too?”
she nodded, “yeah. he would love you. he’s just the sweetest thing ever.” those words rang in your head a few times. he would love you.
“hope i can meet him someday, then.” you told her. “definitely. you should come over this weekend. or- whenever you have time, i know you told R.J and Judith you’d be with them all weekend.”
“only for a few hours. i could still come over!” she smiled, “good. if i tell him about you when i get home he’ll be super excited to meet you.”
“you can tell him i’m just as excited as him.” you laughed, “oh i definitely will.”
you backed away from your bed and looked at the volcano the two of you just built. she stood beside you, tilting her head at it. “i think we did… okay.”
“yeah… so, let’s blow it up now?” Enid nodded, “let’s do it. i think we have to film it, so Mrs. Monroe knows we did it.”
she carried it to the bathroom, setting it on the counter and pulling out her phone. you mixed the given liquids together and turned to her, “ready?” she nodded once more and you poured the mixture into the volcano.
a few seconds went by, and then orange liquid started to emerge from the top of the volcano. the liquid popped, splattering onto the mirror and the wall. you flinched as some got on you as well.
“fuck!” you hissed, grabbing a towel to wipe yourself off. “Y/N! i’m literally filming this for class!” Enid scolded. “but i think it worked, we did it!”
Enid raised her hand for a high five, which you gladly accepted and collided your hand with hers. “that was cool as hell. but now we need to clean this up or else you’re not allowed here anymore… or whatever my mom said.”
you and Enid both grabbed a towel and wiped down the areas the volcano exploded on. “i think we did pretty good though, we should definitely pass.”
“i hope so.” you told her. “now that it’s over with, we could put on a movie and eat those snacks you bought.” you suggested to Enid.
the two of you walked back to your room and sat on your bed, taking out all of your snacks from the bag. “anything you wanna watch in particular? i have a lot of movies.” Enid thought for a moment, “do you have Coraline?”
“of course i have Coraline. it’s one of my favorite movies like… ever,” you said, turning on your tv and finding the movie. “it’s one of mine too!” she exclaimed.
you clicked play on the movie and sat back against the wall, Enid following. your shoulders practically touched, and you could feel your face start to heat up once more.
you turned your heads towards her slightly, admiring the way she looked as she watched the movie. a small smile on her face, her green eyes lit up with excitement. she looked ethereal.
Enid noticed you staring and blushed, trying to hide her smile, “you’re staring,” she said softly. “i can’t help it,” you whispered with a shake of your head. “you’re beautiful, Enid.”
her eyes locked on your lips, and she slowly started to lean in. your lips met in the middle. your hand held the back of her head as the two of you continued to kiss.
Enid pulled away briefly, but only to laugh breathlessly against your lips and pull you into another one, the movie already long forgotten.

A cinematic, speculative debut about a woman who undergoes cryogenic preservation at the time of her death and wakes up a century later in a world where her very life is a crime. When Alabine Rivers, a politically active young woman with a bright career and romance ahead of her, finds out the devastating news that she has terminal cancer, the only thing that gives her solace is the possibility of a second life through the emerging field of cryogenics.A century later, scientists have indeed discovered how to bring back the dead from preservation, but humanity has been locked in a philosophical battle over the ethics of this new Godlike power, a battle that has turned violent: those who are resurrected, the Awoken, have been declared illegal and are to be shot on sight. This is the world Alabine is brought into by the Resurrectionists, an underground militia fighting for the rights of the Awoken. Finding herself in a completely unfamiliar world, and one where she is an outsider for the

Congratulations ADDISON! You’ve been accepted as EPIMETHEUS with a FC change to JOEL KINNAMAN.
When writing Tierney’s skeleton, I tried to hint at how his emotions are something that can rule him - and you picked up on that right away. In fact, you picked up on it, wrapped it, and delivered it to us with a backstory that tore at my heart as the bow. ‘Had he always been a mutant?’ God, the way his power was discovered hit me in the face and I loved it. The theme of taking care of his family is one that I’m excited to see translate to the Blackburn Syndicate. I can’t wait to see Tierney flex his big dumbass energy on the dash!
Welcome to Mutants Rising! Please read the checklist and submit your account within 24 hours.
Out of Character Information:
NAME/ALIAS: addison/hellsign
PRONOUNS: she/her/hers.
AGE: 20
TIMEZONE & ACTIVITY LEVEL: EST, uhhhh activity level….6
In Character Information:
DESIRED ROLE: Tierney Sinclair, FC: Joel Kinnaman
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Cismale, he/him/his
DETAILS & ANALYSIS:
To sum him up, BDG - big dumbass energy. But anyway:
Tierney (Irish): lord’ or ‘master
With names like these, at age 40, why the hell was he just a hitman, a tool for other people to use? Like every man when close to power, he should want that power, right? With Tierney, I think that was the last thing he wanted. Let me explain.
The only time he ever came close to being a “lord” or a “master” was taking care of his brothers growing up. Not that he would ever demanded them to call him that, it wasn’t some kind of title he would’ve liked to keep since it never felt like he ruled over them. Power equated to responsibility and he was a boy forced to become a man. He does not trust himself with power, he doesn’t know what he’ll do with it. Being a hitman is simple. He can clearly see the line between success and failure and he knows what it takes to achieve both. That’s where he gets his comfort. Some people may perceive this as laziness. But Tierney had been alive for 40 long years now. It was about time things became easy.
Epimetheus (Greek): afterthinker, hindsight, foolish Sinclair (Scottish): pure, renowned, illustrious
“red eyes” “always with malice” “burn of whiskey” “rusty pipe…whole world a show”
Why was he so EMOTIONAL??? Perhaps, he was a fool because he was ruled by anger. I thought I had more thoughts than just this, but yeah, he’s just an emotional man showing signs of intermittent explosive disorder.
BIO:
TW: murder/death
Dallon Sinclair was a good cop turned dirty. It was the sort of thing that happens when you knock up your mutant informant. Katelyn Monroe never wanted this baby, but she wasn’t about to die getting rid of it either. At one point, what they had between them was love. This was that one point.
Regardless of the gun pointing to his head, Dallon sworn to protect Katelyn and his unborn child. But his tenure in the depths of the underworld didn’t last very long. After a close shoot-out, Dallon came home and begged Katelyn, please, let me marry you, let us get out of here. Her boss didn’t like that very much.
When Tierney first opened his eyes, the world was a bright flashlight. He was born in the back of a car, seats pushed down with sheets thrown on haphazardly. A night in July, new moon in the sky enveloping the world in darkness. Nothing spectacular about it. Later on, his mother would tell him the story of a car chase, screeching wheels, leaving flames in their wake. He would never remember it.
Here was what he knew: his father was a paranoid old fuck; his mother was a fleeting apparition; his brothers were the only ones worth anything. He would die for them. Really un-fucking-fortunate that he wound up killing for them instead.
Katelyn Monroe came back into their lives like a raging hurricane.
Look, Tierney was only a Sinclair through blood, never by meaning. All that fucking purity shit that was supposed to come with it, circumstance never allowed it. They lived on the outskirts of Chicago’s underbelly and he dove right in to provide for his brothers whenever his father would swan dive back into his own darkness. Fucking faster than going to college somewhere and getting a good job. Tierney fought for money. He scammed for money. He robbed for money. He had a damn line. But somehow, holding Keaton and Charlie in his arms, he couldn’t remember why he had it in the first place. She wasn’t going to take from them anymore.
Katelyn Monroe lied motionless, blood soaking the wood under her. Dallon Sinclair hung like an ornament, his head secured in the wall. The floating glass didn’t fall until Tierney collapsed to his knees.
That was the first time Tierney was aware of his powers. The second was later that night, floating his parents’ bodies into the graves hastily dug under the new moon. Now that he was a mutant (shit, had he always been a mutant?), more doors opened and more questions were asked. There were several syndicates for mutants in Chicago, but Blackburn caught his eye. Protection. And fuck, Tierney knew enough to know that he’d be way over his head to think he could do this on his own now (shit, had he always been a mutant?). Using his connections from the neighborhood fighting ring, he got some names and a way in. And the rest was history.
EXPANDED CONNECTIONS:
Okay, for CIARA SAWYER, I first noticed how young they were which gave me some pseudo-sibling vibes. They’re around his brothers’ age so I totally see Tierney taking them under his wing when they were younger. To Ciara, Tierney is why they still have a job within and outside of the syndicate. The two already work well together, but I think Tierney would’ve sought Ciara out even if they didn’t and make sure they learn how, projecting onto Ciara to cope with his failed relationships with his brothers. Ciara’s power is invisibility, but I also think personality-wise, they prefer to be unknown, or at least, try to be unknownable (“[Tierney doesn’t] ask too many prying questions” —so they prefer him). For whatever reason, they trust Tierney to see them and that means more to Tierney than he’ll ever say.
As for GERRARD BERMUDEZ!!!!!
“They have moral differences that clearly set them apart, but the similarities that they share are what makes Tierney hate them the most… What bothers them is how they notice the barely contained anger sitting behind their eyes because they’ve seen it too many times in their own mirror.”
DIFFERENCES:
Gerrard Bermudez: Jem Family, goals of a Mutant Supremacy.
They don’t kill/torture though.
Scare-tactic, bruiser
Doubles as a bodyguard when unassigned to a mission.
Hyperion - “God of Watchfulness, Wisdom and the Light”
1. One of the titan children that overthrew their father 2. Profitor on Cornerstone Convenience 3. No rules
Tierney Sinclair: Blackburn Syndicate, with a focus on being a safe haven, not necessarily political
Hitman - kills (+ malice = murder)
Epimetheus - “afterthinker, hindsight, foolish”
1. No positive trait for humans
I think it’s kind of ironic that despite being in different groups with very different goals, they are more closely aligned with each other’s organization.
The Blackburn Syndicate, for the past 17 (excuse me, SEVENTEEN) years, has been trying to shed its reputation as a crime-ridden mob. Here’s the thing though. Tierney is a hitman, he kills people but oh it’s okay because he’s one of the good guys. His anger feeds into a motive of justice. Gerrard is all bark and no bite, hiding under the Jem Family because of fear. Their anger is selfish and unproductive. Chaotic for the sake of chaos. That’s what Tierney believes anyway. To him, Gerrard is a victim that wants to be a school bully. Seeking revenge instead of avenging. In his post, his history with Gerrard “has long been forgotten.“ With Gerrard, their history is constantly brought up with snide remarks and an upturned nose. Tierney lies to himself because how can their history be forgotten when he can always feel it looming over him every time he’s in the same room with Gerrard? I think whatever happened between them solidified their morals and had them join different organizations with different goals. And it eats at Tierney to be so close to Gerrard—thanks to the treaty—but yet, they’re still lost to him. (This may change since I’m coming at this with the headcanon that the two were friends… not to god-mod Gerrard or anything). So really this hatred stems from heartbreak. (Tierney is a Cancer, of course).
AND LIKE… NOT TO GOD-MOD GERRARD OR ANYTHING, but if I were to hate Tierney, it’d be because of his hypocrisy and self-delusion. It’s like… what you do is bad but when I do it, it’s okay because I’m better than you. Which, bullshit. So I’m really interested to explore that.
EXTRA:
Honestly, the idea of Tierney having brothers stems from me thinking all white men look the same. I see one picture of Joel Kinnaman and I’m like is this Luke Mitchell?? Anyway, CHARLIE - Luke Mitchell, KEATON - Ross Lynch.
Okay, let me just get my family headcanons out of the way first.
Tierney’s oldest memory was of his little brother. He was six years old, eyes wide with wonder, with his hands reaching out for the warmth of his brother. They weren’t in a car this time. The Sinclairs finally had a house with a dining table, though the sheets might have been the same. Tierney wasn’t the first one to hold Charlie in his arms, but he was the first Sinclair to do so.
Tierney had his father, but Charlie had Tierney. And with those six years between them, Tierney always felt like Charlie was his.
Charlie, when he was younger, couldn’t pronounce Tierney so he called him Ernie.
Tierney used to walk Charlie home from school. Waited outside and everything because he got out earlier.
Being six years apart, they were never in school together so he had to teach Charlie how to fight so people wouldn’t mess with him.
Charlie never did like fighting though. And Tierney wasn’t above picking on kids so they’d leave his brother alone.
That was how he got a rep as a bully.
But if he liked you, he’d protect you too.
He got higher grades on the homework he did with Charlie because Charlie would ask him to explain everything and make him think through shit.
But usually he would do them during homeroom on the days they were due.
Tierney THINKS his powers activated on that fateful day, but really he’s had them this whole time and never fucking noticed.
It’s not that he’s good at finding things. He just subconsciously moves them closer.
He was able to hold Charlie because of his telekinesis. Charlie didn’t float because Tierney wanted to hold him in his arms.
At Fight Club, he expected to win with his punches and kicks, so he did.
Tierney had his fists locked by his side, but his mom flew out the door because he wanted it more.
He couldn’t join the Jem family because his father wasn’t a mutant and he had loved Katelyn, who was, and protected his family, who were. He couldn’t join the Jem family because his mother was a mutant and she hurt them more than anybody else.
Remember how I said that his connection with Ciara was to make up for his failed relationships with his brothers?
Charlie had a fiancé who was actually working for a small org that wanted to test mutation implementation (and Charlie were to be one of their victims). Tierney found out and mentally manipulated him to feel sick and disgust whenever he was with Charlie so they’d break up. Charlie found out that Tierney did that (but not the reason why).
Keaton never felt close to Tierney (mostly because of the age gap) and growing up, Tierney was mostly away working for the syndicate (not that Keaton knew that). Also, Charlie told him what happened and honestly fuck Tierney.
Tierney’s favorite color is yellow.
He never falls first, but he falls the hardest.
I mostly listened to THIS while writing this app. To me, it represents Tierney’s softness but also his desire to keep everybody at far more than arms’ length.
ANYTHING ELSE:
ok i was never into mob/mafia rpgs but i’m so FASCINATED by the premise of mutantsrising anyway anyway i’m super pumped for it. i would apologize for sending in like 2k of analysis but i know yall live for this soooo YOURE WELCOME i hope i did well and this MAKES SENSE I’VE NEVER CONNECTED SO HARD WITH AN OLD MAN

Glass Concrete - 10 Years Ago
Tumblr media
Katelyn: Are you fucking with me right now?
Tumblr media
Jack: God, no! I think you’ve got enough Monroes for a lifetime. What I’m trying to tell you is that I have the whole situation under control. Victor is healthy, most importantly! He is not becoming a father at the age of 17 and now he will concentrate on his studies. He is the future head architect of the biggest construction firm in Bridgeport after all. Well, my baby girl Nicky was quite shaken, but she is sent on a little vacation so she’ll be fine. And by the way, women like her don’t have credit card limits.
Katelyn: What’s the point of all this?
Jack: The point is that I am capable of coping with such situations. It’s irritant, for sure, but we’ve been through worse. As you know, we’ve been through the worst and survive. But we have each other, we have our good friends also, the ones like this hunk right here. But when I found my lovely daughter crying and trembling crumbled over the kitchen table I thought of all the people that don’t have my resources. I thought of how many women, how many mothers and sisters would be left devastated by your careless actions. That’s when I made the decision to take precautions.
Katelyn: How many times I have to tell all of you that you have no proof against me! You can’t sue me!
Jack: We won’t sue you. But you’ll be watched.
Katelyn: What crap are you talking, old fool? Are YOU gonna watch me?!?
Tumblr media
Romeo: I will. You’re on my naughty list from now on. You’re gonna be on the task list of every new police officer who comes to my department. I’ll let my people sharpen their teeth on your case. And the moment you step on the side I’ll come for you. And I know you will, honey. I’ve been through your file. You’re a trouble. I just wonder if you are a trouble just for yourself or also for the studio you’re working for. Hm… Maybe I should check up with Alan, your boss. He owes me for his son’s stupid ass.
Katelyn: …
Jack: Take this as a chance to rethink your behavior, young lady. I know that you have your reasons for acting like this. My wife has always said that all people are good; they just have their bad reasons. But you must understand that innocent people are not your personal punching bags. We are leaving you with this thought.
Tumblr media
Katelyn: Are you planning on solving all Victor’s problems like this, old man? By hiding him away from the world? Did that work for you?
Tumblr media
Jack: You’re not a problem, dear. A problem is to concentrate on your college exams when all you can think of is your beautiful woman breastfeeding your firstborn hundreds of miles away from you. A problem is to preserve your life-long friendship with the man who happens also to be your biggest business rival; a problem is to win back the trust of your children, when it may be lost for good. Women like you are not a problem. You’re a mistake some men need to overcome so they can tell a good woman apart when luck presents one. Men, not boys!

HANGMAN (2017)
Starring Karl Urban, Al Pacino, Brittany Snow, Joe Anderson, Sarah Shahi, Michael Papajohn, Chelle Ramos, Jules Haven, Jermaine Rivers, Odessa Rae, Stephanie Enderby, Steve Coulter, Matt Mercurio, Sydney Shea Barker, Sloane Warren, Dwayne Boyd, Katelyn Farrugia, Scott Parks and Michael Rose.
Screenplay by Charles Huttinger and Michael Caissie.
Directed by Johnny Martin.
Distributed by Saban Films. 98 minutes. Rated R.
It’s been a long while since seeing Al Pacino’s name on a movie poster was a promise of quality. That boat sailed a long time ago, probably bottoming out when he played a slimy version of himself in Adam Sandler’s Jack & Jill. While Pacino’s taste in projects has been a little stronger than his old Godfather II co-star Robert De Niro, he has taken quite a few films on that are not worthy of his talents.
Hangman is sadly one of them. To make it even more of a slap in the face, Pacino isn’t even the star, he’s only the second lead.
A dank and dreary horror film which wants to be another Se7en, but is instead is a really low-rent knock-off of Jigsaw, Hangman takes a vaguely interesting gimmick and does very little with it.
The childhood word game Hangman would seem like a natural touchstone for a horror film. In fact, if you IMDb the name, you’ll find that there have been a few movies that have used it previously over the years (the last one just two years ago).
The game has simplistic and yet kinda-horrific rules: You guess the letters for a blanked-out word (or words), and with each wrong guess a different body part is put on a drawn gallow – head, torso, arms, legs, hands and feet. If you don’t get the letters right before all the parts are drawn in, you lose, and your character dies a violent death.
So, okay, yeah, that could potentially be the basis for a good horror film.
This is not that movie.
The movie takes place in a run-down fictional southern city named Monroe. (It was filmed in Atlanta). There are a series of theatrically staged murders in which the victims are strung up and have letters in a deadly game of Hangman carved into their torsos – while the victims were still alive. Nearby the bodies are lots of little clever “clues” and a game board in which each letter is being added with the dead bodies. A new body is appearing every 24 hours.
In an early scene, on a teacher’s desk there is a carving of the badge number of the lead detective – actually, he seems to be the only active detective working on this case – Will Ruiney (Ruiney? Really?), as played by Karl Urban. Ruiney is a loner whose wife was murdered 10 years earlier and the culprit was never caught – and how much do you want to bet that this killer is the same one who killed his wife all those years ago?
Also carved into the desk was the number of his former partner, who had retired a year before. (I still am wondering how they noticed two three-digit numbers carved into a desk which is littered with carvings and graffiti, but okay…). The partner was Ray Archer (Pacino), who was enjoying his retirement with his racing form before being dragged back into the world of investigation for this case, though he is never officially returned to duty. (Oddly, though the film is supposed to take place in a big southern city, only Pacino bothers to come up with a southern accent for his character, though admittedly a kind of wobbly one.)
The final “investigator” is a former local girl made good, Christi Davies (Brittany Snow), a twenty-something who moved up to New York, got a job at the Times, and – as she incredibly reminds us a few times – was up for a Pulitzer Prize. (Really??? She doesn’t even seem to have a particularly good understanding of her job as a journalist, much less the ability to stand out in the most respected newspaper in the country.)
So, basically, the biggest serial killer investigation in Monroe history is being done by one active detective (who probably should be recused because he has a tragic history with the killer) and two civilians. Yeah, don’t see that being a problem.
When we finally meet the killer, he’s fucking bonkers. Not just the character, the actor (whose name I withhold in the slight chance you still care about spoilers) is overacting so wretchedly and absurdly that it’s almost meta, almost enjoyable in a so-bad-it’s-good way, but it never even reaches that low bar.
The motive of the killer never makes any sense. He is given a tragic back-story in which he witnessed his father’s suicide as a small child. However, that never really explains the burning hatred he has for Pacino’s character, who was merely the policeman who answered the call about the suicide. Archer had nothing to do with the father’s death, he was just doing his job, and he did his best to make it as painless on the kid as he could. Perhaps the kid thought the guy would walk him through child services for the rest of his life, but that wasn’t Pacino’s responsibility. So why does he have this massive hate-on for the guy?
And they never really explain why the killer hated Urban’s character enough to kill his wife and make him a part of this whole complicated “game.” Other than being Pacino’s partner at the time of his wife’s death, Ruiney seemed to have nothing to do with the killer – either as a child or as a grown-up madman.
To make everything all just a little more annoying, the final hangman “puzzle” answer isn’t even a real word. Well, it is a word, but one with “em” added at the end for no apparent reason, other than to make sure no one gets what the sorta-word is until it is unveiled during the climax. Honestly, I had figured out the first eight letters at least an hour and five or six murders earlier, but for the life of me I couldn’t see why there was an empty letter and an “M” at the end. I suppose they were trying to make it seem a little more official or like a Latin version of the word, but as far as I can find that is not even legitimate in that context.
However, by then, you’ve long since given up any expectation of sanity or coherence in Hangman. You’re just ready for it to end, already.
I hope that Al Pacino was well paid for this role. Otherwise, there is no legitimate excuse for him having done Hangman.

Thank all of you gorgeous campers for filling out our questionnaires! The results are below--while some of you may think these matches are not 100% Aphrodite approved, some are down to pure compatibility, some are more opposites-attract-esque, and some are just random because we think it’ll be amusing to watch. We haven’t only used the questionnaire as inspiration, we’ve had little birdies watching you guys interact too which helped us come to a decision. We’ll leave it up to you to figure it all out, though we are leaving a little message about why we have put you together. ❤
Love the Aphrodite Cabin ❤
Althea Graves & Finn Titus
❤ WHY YOU’VE BEEN MATCHED:
We think you two will bring out the best (or worst) in each other. You’re both around the same age, and although Finn is much taller we think it’ll look totally cute. Furthermore, Sagittarius and Libra’s intimacy, communication, and emotion compatibility are all almost perfect. You’re both fond of alcohol in some way shape or form, and Finn could definitely help Althea come out from her shell while also ensuring Finn is put in his place.
WHAT’S NEXT: You two will have a romantic picnic at Coney Island Beach. However the tide is going to come in pretty quick, potentially ruining the date (and your food) or making it better depending on how you deal with it. Furthermore, one of you will see someone from your past, whether your characters interact with them is up to you.
Annabeth Chase & Samuel Carpenter
❤ WHY YOU’VE BEEN MATCHED:
First of all, we know Annabeth is taken (even though that’s never stopped her before) but we thought these two would be fun to match up together. She fits his attractive need, and he’s one of the only guys taller than her enough to look good. We also think that regardless of Sam’s tendencies to be a bit of a dick, he could quite easily make Annabeth laugh if he chose to and he wouldn’t let her push him away. Cancer and Scorpio’s compatibility is also out of this world!
WHAT’S NEXT: The two of you will be going to the theatre to watch a production. Halfway through one of you will receive some family news that will make you leave the show, you can choose to end the date there or see where it takes you.
Chris Moretz & Rosie Woods
❤ WHY YOU’VE BEEN MATCHED:
We didn’t let Rosie pick her match, so I’m sure she’ll be incredibly surprised to know that her and her best friend are ridiculously made for each other! Talk about going after the wrong sister, Chris and Rose fit like a glove. You both talk about unimportant things like they mean the world to you, you’re both into travelling and experiencing the world. Rose wants someone loyal, Chris wants someone who will respect him and laugh at his stupid jokes--well, the joke is on you two for not realising sooner. You’re both super into your family time, and your zodiac signs tell us that you’re the most perfect match. Hopefully this will be the wake up call you needed.
WHAT’S NEXT: You will go to a concert together, the artist is up to you. Throughout the night one of you will end up getting lost and unable to find the other, it may be a dangerous situation or simply due to the amount of people.
Dakota Rivett & Piper Atwood
❤ WHY YOU’VE BEEN MATCHED:
You’re both Sagittarius and so you’re basically two peas in a pod! Dakota wanted a girl, and we figured Piper has had enough of the male species. You’re around the same height which is usually a bad thing, but we’ve decided to look past it. Dakota wants a good friend who is hot...and we think Piper is both of those things. You have similar taste in music, and we think Piper could definitely keep up with you, Dakota!
WHAT’S NEXT: You two will be going to a restaurant where you will end up getting kicked out due to causing a scene from the bad service.
Findlay Wolfe & Olivia Haart
❤ WHY YOU’VE BEEN MATCHED:
You’re the same age, Taurus and Pisces seem to like each other and according to our sources you both share the same weapon of choice. Plus, if Finn finds himself funny we are certain that Olivia will too--and that’s what she’s looking for! Plus we’ve never seen Olivia be anyone but herself, so Finn could rest easy knowing she’s being herself. You both appreciate Tolkien and seem like a passionate pair.
WHAT’S NEXT: The two of you will be having a movie marathon, however the power will cut out during and won’t turn on for another few hours. You can decide to end the date and rearrange it for another day, or choose to do something else that doesn’t require electricity.
Jinyoung Kwon & Kateyln White
❤ WHY YOU’VE BEEN MATCHED:
This is one of those opposites-attract situations that we think will benefit the both of you. You’re both the same age, and as one of the shortest guys--and the shortest girl, you will suit each other perfectly. Katelyn’s confidence should rub off on Jin, who isn’t so confident and Jin’s kind-natured heart should definitely see past Katelyn’s ‘bitchiness’, as she puts it. And although she seems put off by boys who lack confidence, we think by forcing you two in this situation you may find that you like each other.
WHAT’S NEXT: You two will be going to a carnival, however you will both get stuck at the top of the ferris wheel for at least an hour. Your date could have been going well or it could have been a catastrophe.
Mara Beauchamp & Sebastian Cohen
❤ WHY YOU’VE BEEN MATCHED:
It’s okay, Mara--we think Seb is hot, too. Scorpios and Cancers definitely get along well and we think you guys will! We figure you both have shitty attitudes and so should cancel each other out when together--plus you’d make a badass couple. You both have interests in art, and the types that you fall for seem to match up with each other. And while Seb will never be trustworthy, he’s definitely the type you’d fall for, Mara.
WHAT’S NEXT: The two of you will be visiting an art gallery, where one or both of you may or may not drink a little too much champagne. You can decide what will entail, you can destroy the exhibit, cause a scene over a piece of art you disagree with, completely up to you.
Matthias Vinter & Meghan Monroe
❤ WHY YOU’VE BEEN MATCHED:
Due to Meghan’s age, our options were limited as we didn’t want to push her off with anyone too old, but then we realised how perfect you and Matthias would be! We are hoping that Meghan’s interest in the Hemsworth brothers has something to do with their accent, and if so, Matthias has a sexy Danish accent to match. We think you two could really have fun chilling out watching movie marathons all day.
WHAT’S NEXT: The two of you are going ice skating, however eventually one of you are going to end up falling and hurting themselves. In the city, and surrounded by mortals, you will find difficulty in getting healed. You can have the character go to hospital, travel back to camp, or attempt to heal it in the city yourselves.
Morgana Lucas & Zeke Taylor
❤ WHY YOU’VE BEEN MATCHED:
Taurus and Gemini are one of the most incompatible couples, but we think differently when it comes to you two. You have similar taste in music, both fond of electronic sounds, which is lucky because we think you guys could be electric. Morgan wants someone passionate and Zeke seems to be incredibly passionate about his musical talent. Zeke would hook up with Angelina Jolie and we definitely think Morgan gives off the crazy vibe that Angie does in her role in Girl, Interrupted...which is a good thing...obviously.
WHAT’S NEXT: You will go on a midnight walk around the lake. One or both of you is going to find themselves in danger and you must find a way out of it while not waking up Chiron or the harpies, unless they’re the reason why you’re in danger.

PREP BASKETBALL: South girls storm past Crater – Medford News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News
Tumblr media
CENTRAL POINT — South Medford wasn’t satisfied with its play through the first half of Thursday’s Southern Oregon Conference girls basketball game, and that spelled trouble for Crater in the second half.
The Class 6A Panthers used a 33-17 run in the third quarter to shake off any first-half woes and cruised to a 74-34 triumph at Crater High.
“It’s hard to say you’re happy after a 40-point loss,” said Crater coach Scott Dippel, “but I take a little pride in the fact that I thought we played hard. South’s a very good team. I don’t think people realize how talented of a ballcub it is.”
Eleven players scored overall for South Medford (9-0), with junior post Sierra Logue scoring eight of her team-high 16 points during the Panthers’ third-quarter onslaught. Logue also finished with eight rebounds and three blocks.
“We were very flat to start the game,” said South Medford coach Tom Cole. “I don’t think we rose to the level of energy we needed. I thought Crater’s focus and energy was greater than ours to start the game but we did a much better job of that coming out of halftime.”
Sophomore Donovyn Hunter scored 14 points and senior Emma Schmerbach added 10 points, with both South standouts also sparking their team from the defensive end.
Hunter finished with four of the Panthers’ 20 steals, while Schmerbach had two steals and five rebounds and Bella Stone had six steals and two assists.
“Emma Schmerbach and Donovyn Hunter, they are just so long,” said Dippel. “In the traps, even if they don’t get credit for the steals, between the two of them they seemed to be deflecting everything that came their way.”
Crater (10-2) trailed only 16-10 through one quarter, giving rise to hopes of a close competition, but the Panthers closed the first half up 29-15.
“We defended really well early,” said Dippel, “but you make a couple errors against them and it equals points. They can get a turnover and turn it into a lay-in real quick.”
Crater turned the ball over 15 times in the third quarter against South’s defensive pressure.
Kate Stidham and Chase Weaver each scored eight points to pace the Comets, with Weaver also adding three rebounds and two blocks.
Madison Dutkiewicz had seven points and Crater got four rebounds and two assists apiece from McKenzie Hirsch and Teya Amidei.

Rothfus was the lone Crusader to score in double figures, and hit her team’s only 3-pointer on the night.
Morgan Dole had five points and six assists for St. Mary’s (3-10), while Maddie Ward added five points and a pair of blocks.
Douglas (5-3) built a 29-21 lead at the half and was led by the tandem of Male’ata Polamalu and Adrianna Sapp, who both finished with 21 points. Kierra Bennett also scored 11.

ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST 55, TRINITY LUTHERAN 47: At Bend, four Rogue Valley Adventist players scored in double figures and the Red Tail Hawks went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line to secure a win in their regular-season finale.
Sophomore Emma Bischoff scored a team-high 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the way for the Red Tail Hawks (7-1). Fellow sophomores Michaela Porter (12 points) and Isabell Zamora (10 points) also finished in double figures. Porter added four assists and six rebounds, while Zamora recorded a team-high seven assists.
RVA senior Madelyn Bennett chipped in 10 points and five assists.
RVA, which led the game 23-16 at the half and shot 56 percent for the game, will take a three-game winning streak into the Class 1A postseason tournament next week. The Red Tail Hawks open against Nixyaawii Monday afternoon in Baker.

HIDDEN VALLEY 48, PHOENIX 33: At Talent, Jack Monroe and Jackson Selden each scored six points to boost Phoenix, which trailed 22-19 at halftime but a third-quarter lull led to an 18-8 surge by Hidden Valley in the Skyline Conference game at Talent Middle School.
Ezra McLean had 15 points to lead three Hidden Valley (6-3) players in double figures.

Roxine was born October 31, 1934 in Haywood County, NC, to the late Roscoe and Bessie Sutton Early. After her father passed away, she was blessed to become the stepdaughter of Calvin D. Rich.  Roxine was an avid outdoors woman, a crack shot who could hunt, drop and gut her own deer to the envy of all. She was perhaps happiest when fishing in the back country of Canada, looking like a slightly sunburned Hollywood celebrity, and consistently reeling in the best catch of the day.

Quilting while watching programs like her beloved "Song of the Mountains" or "Antiques Roadshow" and "American Pickers" was a favorite pastime when her health allowed. Through the years, Roxine excelled in several careers including administrative assistant, hair stylist, antique shop owner and quality control nurse, having returned to school later in life and graduating at the top of her class.

Thunder thighs. Mum tum. Tuckshop lady arms. Far from a biological predisposition, our modern tendency to criticise parts of our own body is instead an ugly by-product of a media-saturated world. Something that the October 2018 cover models and founders of body-love movement, AnyBODY, are on a mission to change.
West-Aussie models and body confidence activists Georgia Gibbs and Kate Wasley sat down with us to talk the impact of social media, health at any size and beauty with no boundaries. Because – in the words of WH&F – it’s not a look, it’s a lifestyle. Katelyn Swallow and David Goding tell their story.
On the 23rd of January 2017, 22-year-old Aussie model Georgia Gibbs posted an innocent Instagram photo of herself and fellow model and friend Kate Wasley, 23, posed in front of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. A few minutes later, the image was bombarded with negative comments about their differing body sizes, along with accusations of image tampering.
“People were calling me anorexic and Kate fat, and assuming I had Photoshopped my friend bigger to make me look ‘better’. It was really upsetting for us both and so against everything we believe in,” says Gibbs, who started modelling at the age of 16 in her home city of Perth.
“And so our brand, AnyBODY, was born shortly after.”
Launched on the 8th of March 2017 – appropriately, International Women’s Day – the @any.body_co Instagram account had over 5000 followers by close of business day one, and clocked over 20,000 followers after the first 10 days. Today, more than 206,000 follow Gibbs and Wasley, who post professional images of themselves, selfies of women with varied body shapes, inspirational quotes about self-love, and healthy living and beauty tips. AnyBODY has also provided the girls with a host of dual modelling contracts for big brands such as Cotton On Body and Cooper Street.
Wasley attributes the brand’s rapid success to a public and industry that craved body diversity – and a marketable icon to represent it.
“I can’t believe how fast AnyBODY blew up! Although [Georgia] and I are really only two people of different sizes, I truly believe that incorporating a range of sizes, races and genders in advertising and across social media will help thousands of women worldwide when it comes to feeling comfortable in their own skin,” says Wasley, who began her modeling career in 2015 after being discovered by a local model search.
“We decided to preach to people that healthy can come in a range of sizes. Because of the way social media is these days, I think a lot of women lose perspective on what body diversity is. I think a lot of people get sucked into believing that you should look a certain way, be a certain size, and have no cellulite or stretch marks. It’s unrealistic and we want that to change.”
The media’s negative influence on people’s – particularly women’s – body image isn’t a recent concern. According to psychotherapist Natajsa Wagner, media influence can be traced back to illustrations from the 1930s that depicted women with curves, while the ’40s and ’50s saw the female bust and glutes become the focus.
“Mattel created the Barbie doll with unachievable and disproportionate body parts, and in 1966, in the environment of an emerging super-media, we had the world’s first supermodel in Twiggy. She was a sharp contrast to Marilyn Monroe, and over time we learnt that thin was the new ‘ideal’ body image. So, although women come in all shapes and sizes, the overarching truth is that only one type of body is [portrayed as] ‘ideal’,” says Wagner.
By the age of 17, women have experienced a quarter of a million beauty- and body-oriented advertisements, and continue to be exposed to an average of 400 to 600 depictions of ‘beauty’ every day. The emergence of the smartphone and social media platforms puts these images in our pockets, and the way we engage with social media makes these often digitally altered and filtered depictions seem all the more ‘real’. According to research by Trilogy, six out of 10 women believe that people expect online photos to have been retouched or have a filter applied, yet 61 per cent of Australian women do not see the use of a filter as a form of retouching. Additionally, one 2014 study published in Body Image found a direct correlation between poor self-image and the number of hours spent trawling Facebook, due to body comparisons with peers and celebrities alike.
Dr John Demartini, author of The Gratitude Effect, believes our tendency to compare and judge our own body based on individuals who we deem more ‘attractive’ is the primary cause of negative self-perception. “In today’s social media-obsessed world, many people feel pressured to pursue a physical, one-sided, false perfection that is simply unattainable,” he says.
In other words, it’s not a biologically determined position to think of our body negatively; rather, our body image is influenced by a range of outside factors, fuelled by a visually obsessed (and self-obsessed) society. For Wasley, this tendency to compare herself to others led to a host of mental and physical issues in her younger – and leaner – years. While now sitting happily at a comfortable size 16, at her thinnest (size 10/12) she was mentally exhausted.
“For me, my biggest barriers [to a positive body image] were comparing myself to others, whether that be my friends or ‘fitspo’ girls I followed on social media. I had such an unrealistic idea of what I should look like and that resulted in not feeling good enough or worthy of love,” she says.
“I stopped going out with friends because I had such bad anxiety about food and alcohol. I didn’t want to be seen as the ‘fat’ friend – although, looking back now, I was very fit and toned. It’s amazing how you see yourself when you feel insecure; my view of my own body was totally warped. If I can help even one person work their way out of that mindset, I’ll feel accomplished.”
Gibbs expresses a similar memory of juvenile body dysmorphia.
“I remember being 16 and being unsure of who I was, being unhappy with how I looked and spending so much time comparing myself to other people. It really ruined my ability to love myself for all my other talents outside of physical appearance. Barriers to my own self-love definitely came from setting unachievable goals – such as wanting to look like a celebrity who was the complete opposite to me, therefore setting myself up to fail – and comparing myself to others on social media,” she says.
An extension of the same debate is the complex interplay of health, genetics and lifestyle on how the body appears – especially considering Australia’s worsening obesity epidemic, not to mention the ever-increasing occurrence of eating disorders. Gibbs’ mother was a personal trainer and her father a CrossFit instructor, so healthy food and exercise were integrated into her life from an early age – but both were seen as tools for optimal performance rather than to create a particular body shape. Early in her modelling career, however, Gibbs’ naturally curvaceous silhouette and muscular lower body were often criticised by an industry set on slim.
“I’m predisposed to having a small waist, bigger quads and broad shoulders. But through training, these features are definitely exaggerated and other areas built on and changed too,” says Gibbs.
“I’ve always had to overcome hurdles about my appearance. But over the last few years – as I’ve built a brand around myself of wellness and self-acceptance – it’s been amazing to see clients accept me for who I am and now embrace the ‘love AnyBODY’ message.”
Wasley, on the other hand, comes from a paternal line of tall and built physiques, and first became conscious of her health at age 17.
“I was never self-conscious [growing up]. I knew I was on the bigger side, but I honestly didn’t have a problem with it until I started to compare myself to other girls. Maybe it was about the same time I became interested in boys…who knows. But I remember not having a clue where to start,” she says.
“I feel like I’ve finally reached a place of contentment and balance, which I’m truly grateful for! I eat healthy and exercise, and I’m a size 16, and I feel if I were to stop [exercising and eating well] completely, I’d maybe sit at a size 16/18 naturally – but my body would look different, if that makes sense.”
The World Health Organization defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” – a sentiment the AnyBODY team echo. Gibbs and Wasley encourage women to see good health as encompassing the physical, the mental and the spiritual. It’s about balance, the ability to move freely and think clearly, and it’s highly individual.
“Health is so much more than your physical fitness,” says Wasley. “To an extent, I don’t believe you can judge how healthy a person is based on their weight and physical being. For example, when I was at my thinnest, people were asking me left right and centre for fitness advice; I suddenly became the ‘fit friend’, running 10km multiple times a week and avoiding alcohol. If you looked at me, I was the picture of health. But what no one knew was that I was dealing with disordered eating, I was isolating myself from social events and my friends, and I was so miserable and hated how I looked. I wasn’t healthy at all.”
WH&F head trainer and Creating Curves founder, Alexa Towersey, agrees.
“As a society, we need to redefine what we think ‘healthy’ looks like. The reality of the situation is that body dysmorphia exists at both ends of the spectrum. We naively live under the assumption that a size 10 is making healthier choices than a size 16 based solely on their appearance, and without even taking into consideration age, ethnicity, genetic makeup or hormonal profile.  It’s the underlying relationship with food and exercise – whether it’s positive or negative – that we should be paying attention to,” she says.
Toeing the line between adopting a positive body image and striving to reach your health and fitness goals is not always easy. But for the AnyBODY brand and for a fair chunk of body image experts, striving for physical change isn’t necessarily a negative thing; wanting to create a healthier, fitter body that exudes confidence can be a noble goal and set you on a journey that invigorates, rather than sabotages, your self-esteem. The important thing is to understand why you are wanting to change, says Wagner.
“We’ve all experienced feeling uncomfortable in our bodies: we know when we feel physically fit, healthy and comfortable in our clothes and we know when we don’t. Wanting to make changes to positively impact our health isn’t wrong,” she says.
“However, when you start to define your level of self-worth and value by how you believe your body should look, the desire to improve your body or work towards a better level of health has gone too far. Do it for the endorphins; do it because you’re looking after your body and challenging yourself. There is a huge amount of research now that shows exercise to be one of the most uplifting tools we have and makes us feel good about our current body shape.
“A positive body image means a person is able to accept their body as it is with respect and admiration. Living with a positive body image means you have the ability to utilise your own self-esteem, maintain a positive attitude and are emotionally stable. Because of this, you’re able to filter through the messages from the media, your peers and family, and remain steadfast in how you feel about your body.”
While Wasley and Gibbs admit they’ve had to work hard to become body-positive, the duo hope the AnyBODY brand can help more women accept their appearance and feel empowered in their journey to good health; and, for them, this starts with a greater diversity of body shapes and sizes being represented on the catwalk, in advertising, in clothing sizes and in the media. Already, key brands have taken their cue, with Cooper Street releasing their ‘curve range’ inspired by the movement. Future plans for AnyBODY centre on launching their Skype for Schools program, tackling teenagers’ self-esteem, body confidence and personal development issues, while Wasley is looking to one day complete her Health Promotion degree to further advance the cause. But, in the interim, both Gibbs and Wasley offer one piece of solid advice: quit the comparisons and learn to love you – for you.
“Today I feel fantastic about my body the majority of the time. I still have my bad days because, well, I’m human – but they’re now few and far between. I think it’s the way I deal with it now that has been my biggest achievement. I focus on things I love about myself instead of dwelling on what I dislike. I have health and fitness goals now rather than weight or size goals,” says Wasley.
“Loving your body is an individual journey that’s completely different for everyone. But my top tip is not to compare yourself to anyone – especially on social media – because often you’ll be comparing yourself at your worst to someone at their best. Just remember you are worthy of love, no matter what you look like. There are people out there that love you for you, and don’t give a crap about what you look like. Those are the people worth keeping around.”

Full story: talking body confidence with cover models Georgia Gibbs and Kate Wasley
