I have been in the mood to watch some Shoujo so I finally got around watching Fruits Basket since its one of the most iconic Shoujo out there and it just feels like I’m missing out on not watching it and while I’m definitely enjoying it so far, I have to admit that Yuki’s (and Kagura) annoying ass almost made me want to drop the show...

click Keep Reading for explanation!
First of all, I’m sorry for my bad grammars ;;
Boruto: Pureblood. Boruto has shown Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Slytherin traits. Out of all the house, he has shown Slytherin traits the most during pre-chunin exam. He’ll cheat his way out and would do the easy way to achieve his goal (Boys vs Girls, Gaming, Chunin Exam arc), not to mention that he is resourceful and have leadership skills in graduation arc.
But Boruto values chivalry, courage and his own morality more as seen in Nue Arc, Mist Arc and Mitsuki Arc. Him breaking the rules just to save his friends and keep them on the right path is very un-Slytherin like.
Boruto is very loyal to his friends, even to the point of still trusting them right after he was betrayed... multiple times. However, he’s laid-back, impatient and has that cocky personality, something that is the opposite of Hufflepuff’s core traits.
Patronus is a Weasel – Weasels are one of the world’s smallest carnivores. This means they have to compensate for their size by attitude. Weasels seem like a cute little rodent, but they are quite mischievous little things. They are quick-minded and slick. They are masters of chaos and are actually intelligent.
----
Sarada: Half-blood. Sarada is the hardest to place. After all, she has shown all of the house traits. She is courageous and brave like Gryffindor, ambitious and determined like Slytherin, analytical and intelligent like Ravenclaw, loyal, open-minded and kind like Hufflepuff. But what makes her a Gryffindor is when she weighs in her decision.
During Mist Arc; where the logical thing to do there was to tell the adults of the situation, but this would led to prosecuting Boruto’s friend, Kagura. She chose the latter. She valued her morality and the safety of her childhood friend more
Another instances where she has shown Gryffindor traits is her joining Boruto to find Mitsuki. Doing so would put risk to her untainted records, her genin rank stripped and losing her spot to the position of becoming the Hokage, just bec she thinks it’s the right thing to do. These traits are very Gryffindor (and very un-Slytherin)
Hufflepuffs aren’t cocky and boastful, which Sarada displayed more than once when fighting her opponent. She also tends to judge or jump into conclusion which is something a Slytherin won’t do.
Her Patronus is an Eagle – They have large beaks, muscular legs, and powerful talons. In addition, they have extremely large pupils, which means that they have fantastic eyesight.
----
Mitsuki: Pureblood. Other than his affiliation with snakes, he has shown that he’s resourceful and have cunning personality. He doesn’t act with his own mind, even if it is what he thinks is right, and would only do so if he’s told to. One example is when Boruto & Sarada were fighting against Mirai. He was quiet until Kono told him to tell them what he thought of the situation. There are other instances where he displays lack of individuality with Boruto, but this trait has started to diminish after Mitsuki Arc.
Speaking of Mitsuki Arc, he had done some things where he wouldn’t normally do to achieve his goals. Things like hurting Boruto for his goal to find his will and motives of his enemy. He has also shown Ravenclaw traits as well; but his affiliation with snakes are too good not to place him in Slytherin.
Patronus is a King Cobra – Keen-eyed with sharp senses, this snake rarely bites humans but can be highly aggressive if provoked.
----
Shikadai: Pureblood. Shikadai is a Ravenclaw through and through. He values his intelligence, creativity and his analytical skills during battle. He uses logic when he decides on something as well; like in that one episode where he sees there’s something wrong during Mitsuki arc where Mitsuki left a glaring evidence, something that Sarada didn’t even think about. He only decided to join Boruto bec of that one factor.
Patronus is a Deer
----
Inojin: Muggleborn. Ravenclaws aren’t just about intelligence, they’re also known to be creative and witty, which is what Inojin have. Not to mention Ravenclaws are also known to be callous and insensitive which is, well, what Inojin is most of the time. He hasn’t shown any traits from other houses other than his creativeness and wittiness, which is why I place him here.
Patronus is a Wild Boar
----
Chocho: Half-blood. At first, I wanted to place her in Hufflepuff. Mainly because of her love for food and her loyalty to Sarada- but the thing is, Chocho doesn’t display hardwork or kindness. She’d often insult others (esp the boys) and comes off cunning to achieve her goals (being with that actor during Chocho Arc and leaving the village to find his father).
While she has shown bravery like a Gryffindor and Loyalty like a Hufflepuff, the Slytherin in her shone more. She’s determined, resourceful, confident and ambitious. This Queen won’t let anyone talk down to her.
Patronus are Butterflies
----
Sumire: Pureblood. My first thought for her was Hufflepuff. But if you really think about it, Hufflepuff traits aren’t her strongest suite. She isn’t loyal all the time and her morality and/or decisions are dependent on someone else’s morals and opinions (in the past, her father. Now, Boruto). The way she acts can come off as that typical Hufflepuff person- however, her character is rather complex than “that one gal who’s super shy”.
In fact, her core traits are very un-Hufflepuff (besides being kind) and displayed Slytherin and Ravenclaw traits more. She’s resourceful and cunning during Nue arc, analytical and observant as seen when she’s pointing out each member of Team 7 of their strength and weaknesses. What made me place her in Ravenclaw utimately, is near the end of Juugo’s arc, where her curiosity and her wanting to learn science will bring her and Nue closer.
Patronus is a Nue (the more she thinks of happy thoughts, the bigger Nue is)
----
Namida: Muggleborn. She’s definitely a Hufflepuff. It’s pretty clear she values hardwork for the sake of her teammates. She’s kind and open-minded as well, but also indecisive and lacks ambition. At one point, she displayed Gryffindor traits when facing an enemy. However, Gryffindors are known to be confident, something that Namida lacks.
Patronus is a Penguin
----
Houki: Half-blood. He’s over-zealous and worked hard to be the leader of the team. Sometimes this trait doesn’t lead up to positive end though. By the end of the episode, he became open-minded. Houki feels it’s just and fair to step-down as a leader (bec of his many mistakes) and for his other teammate Hako, who he thinks is a better team leader, to take the role.
Patronus is a Mongrel Dog
----
Note: Denki (Ravenclaw), Iwabe (Slytherin), Wasabi (Slytherin) and Metal (Hufflepuff) are pretty self-explanatory.
I haven’t seen so much of Hako and Renga from Team 25. Hako is very much in Ravenclaw for being extremely observant. Little is known for Renga tho, but he acts what he thinks is right which is a Gryffindor-like to do.

A Gintama episode a day keeps the ending away…Episode 143
Episode Title: Those Who Stand On Four Legs Are Beasts. Those Who Stand On Two Legs, Guts, And Glory Are Men
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MY 14 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN EPISODE 143 (manga chaps 220, 221 and 222):
I get weepy every time I watch this episode. Even though I already know everything that’s going to happen and even try to prepare myself from getting emotional, it doesn’t matter, I still cry at least three times.
Tumblr media
1) First cry. I’d have to be a soulless monster not to feel anything from seeing Kagura in such a vulnerable state.
Tumblr media
2) This poor Hyakka member...she was so terrified of Kamui. I really felt for her. Obviously, he didn’t since he killed her anyway.  As much as I love him, I still have to admit Kamui’s pretty shitty most of the time.
Tumblr media
3) I know he means well in his own twisted way, but I’m sure his victims just feel more horrified upon seeing him smiling at them right before their death.
Tumblr media
4) Tears starting up again here but I’m able to hold it together though barely...
Tumblr media
5)...things get really shaky here for me cuz seeing Hinowa trembling with emotion trying to hold back HER tears is enough to make me want to cry, but I’m able to hold it together yet again...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6) ...and here’s where I lose it for the second time, especially seeing the way Hinowa’s shoulder is trembling. Hurts my heart so much.
Tumblr media
7) Gin-chan making a pretty awesome show of power; that door was not exactly made of cardboard.
Tumblr media
8) If only Sacchan was around, she’d probably pass out from happiness from hearing that. She’d no doubt assume he was thinking about her.
Tumblr media
9) Third cry.
Tumblr media
10) This is absolutely not my favorite moment cuz I really do not like Housen, but I just wanted to point out how ridiculous his gigantic umbrella is, obviously he’s trying to compensate for something with that thing, and also his tendency to strip his shirt so that he can show off his stupid muscular upper body is also kinda pathetic as well. You don’t see Kamui needing to do exhibitionist shit like that.
Tumblr media
11) I just love how effective this scene was in showing how Gintoki was just a breath away from buckling under Housen’s power and being crushed like a bug by him.
Tumblr media
12) Again, as I’ve said many times before, there really is no way Gintoki is just a mere human being because he should have been so dead from just that one attack alone. He’s gotta have some Utsuro blood in him and it’s driving me crazy that that hasn’t been a reveal yet.
Tumblr media
13) I cheered, and then wished Gin-chan had shoved Tsukky’s pipe in just a little more so this old pervert could have been lobotomized. I wanted him so dead for the damage he had inflicted on Gintoki.
Tumblr media
14) Not that I ever thought Gintoki could be dead (even though I did still scream first time I watched Housen kick him through that wall), but Seita’s reaction never fails to make my tense up in anxiety for at least a second or two.
SHIPS TALLY:
Shinpachi x Kagura: I can never really get on this ship since I don’t see them that way (not to mention, it’d probably be a very imbalanced relationship since Kagura would totally dominate Pachi-kun and step all over him), but I did love how he really was Kagura’s anchor and support throughout her whole fight with Abuto, not to mention also the catalyst for her losing herself to her Yato senses since her chain snapped when he was in danger. Really felt the love between them.
Tumblr media
Kondou x Otae & Gintoki x Hasegawa: kinda self-explanatory...both couples are doing what they normally do as couples.
Tumblr media
Gintoki x Kamui: here’s where the spark happened.
Tumblr media
Gintoki x Tsukuyo: honorable mention since she saved Gin-chan’s life by giving him her kiseru.

Thoughts on Fruits Basket 2019 Episode 19: “I’m So Sorry!”
You know, considering how apprehensive I was going into this episode since I knew what it was going to cover, I gotta give them credit for how by the end of it I actually really liked the little things they did to flesh out this part of the story, even if they only had so much time to work with.
I think this is gonna be a divisive episode for a lot of reasons, including the fact that some manga fans might not like that they toned down the comedy [relatively speaking] and fleshed out the character interactions more, but one way or another I think they did a nice job with it.
Anyway, thoughts under the cut [and spoiler warning for the whole manga]
I didn’t expect this episode to give me a whole lot to talk about [in terms of positive stuff, at least] since Ritsu’s intro arc was always kinda short and simple, but they actually made a fair amount of edits to how the whole episode played out. It’s still the same length and covers the same basic plot beats, but with a different sort of execution compared to the manga.
Specifically this adapts chapters 44 and 45 of the manga, though technically Ritsu first appears at the very end of chapter 43. And there was a fair amount of stuff that was cut or replaced in this episode, mainly the couple of scenes with Yuki and Haru that were there to follow up on what happened in chapter 43. Since that hasn’t happened yet in the anime, obviously it had to be cut. I think we’ll be seeing that whole part of the story happen near the start of season 2 at this point, since they definitely don’t seem to be planning to introduce Rin in this season. So in that sense at least this episode played out similarly to how it did in the 2001 anime [where Ritsu’s intro was in episode 23]. But there was also a lot of stuff changed outside of that, which made this more of an entirely unique version of this part of the story.
Basically most of it boils down to how they edited the whole flow of events to give Mitsuru [and her interactions with Ritsu] way more screen-time and focus, which I think was exactly what this episode needed. In the manga their interaction in this whole part is literally just contained to one page worth of dialogue at the very end, and it only vaguely sets up the idea that they might have stuff in common. And for the record, at least in the manga, that’s also basically the only time they ever interact in the story to begin with. After this I don’t think we ever see them again at all outside of one bonus comic page that, at least in the collector’s edition, is compiled at the back of the final volume along with some other bonus material. Both Mitsuru and Ritsu kinda vanish from the manga after this point, and then right near the end we suddenly get told that they’re dating and it’s all just kinda weird and unexpected.
Maybe it’s just the writer in me who likes nerding out about this kinda stuff, but I thought it was really neat how elegantly they managed to incorporate Mitsuru into how almost all of this episode, and how they used some of the scenes from the manga that they cut as inspiration for the more original scenes here. Like how the scene with Ritsu freaking out about cereal and spilling milk everywhere got replaced with him spilling coffee on Shigure’s manuscript. I also liked how instead of having a scene near the end with Tohru and Ritsu talking in private, we got to see Ritsu and Mitsuru talking about the same sorta stuff.
The other really big change, which lead to how they could more or less cut out that one scene between Tohru and Ritsu, was how they heavily fleshed out the scene with Ritsu about to jump off Shigure’s roof by basically inserting his whole talk with Tohru into it, which I think worked surprisingly well. Some manga fans might dislike how it made the scene less comedy-focused, but I think it worked well. I did think it was kinda unintentionally funny how it reminded me that Tohru keeps finding new and exciting ways to fall off, or nearly fall off, dangerously high places, lmao.
I’ve seen some people say that it felt too over the top and melodramatic in a way that made Tohru feel too much like an unrealistically perfect therapist, but honestly that’s just kinda how this part of the story always felt. Tohru’s whole conversation with Ritsu about the meaning of life and whatnot always felt like the part where Tohru’s place in the story felt the most forced. But with the amount of characters the premise of this series demands introducing, it’s commendable that most of the parts where Tohru basically serves as the Soma family therapist don’t feel this way.
It probably doesn’t help that the reboot shuffled this around in the timeline so that it’s right in the middle of two other arcs about Tohru meeting a new Soma family member. This episode coming immediately after one as good as Kisa’s episode really set it up for failure in a lot of ways, lol. But ultimately I think it was a good idea to move this where they did. It makes sense that they’re trying to rearrange things so that all of the zodiac members except for Kureno and Rin get introduced before the end of season 1, and this is the best place in the season to put this episode. I think it at least works a lot better here than it did in the 2001 anime where it happened literally right before the Kyo arc, right near the end of the season, which was just a really awkward place to put it all around.
In terms of other stuff that got changed/removed from the manga, they cut out a whole bit with Hatori getting called over to bandage Tohru’s hand after Ritsu broke a cup and she ended up getting cut, though honestly I’d kinda forgotten about that whole scene so I didn’t even notice it was gone. And along those same lines, I guess they also cut out the minor detail of Ritsu spraining his ankle on the roof and it having to also get treated by Hatori, since they had Tohru have a much more dramatic fall on the roof instead.
Like I said, basically every single scene with Mitsuru was anime-original since in the manga she only really appeared in that final scene, and even that got fleshed out a fair bit in this episode, so that we actually got to see them becoming friends, and they both had the same sorta monologue to tie everything together. Which did a way better job than the manga ever did at setting up their relationship, lol. It’s still kinda forced, but it’s not the gaping void of nothingness that it was originally.
Another thing they changed, which I didn’t even notice until I checked the manga again afterward, was that Ritsu was wearing his kimono throughout this entire episode, whereas in the manga he switches to wearing a more masculine outfit immediately after Tohru finds out that he’s a guy. It honestly felt so natural to have him just keep wearing the same outfit the whole way through that I didn’t think anything of it.
Which finally gets us to the elephant in the room, the hornet’s nest, the can of worms, the grand king of controversy, that is Ritsu’s crossdressing.
I definitely think it felt a lot better in this version of events specifically because they at least let him still wear his kimono and his feminine hairstyle even after the ““““gender reveal twist”“““ without it being some sorta issue, but ultimately the way it’s handled still feels notably dated, and I definitely think there’s gonna be a lot of entirely new fans who immediately view him as being heavily trans-coded. Since he really is.
I feel like this should be fairly self-explanatory, but just to be completely clear, this isn’t a matter of “wearing feminine clothing must mean you’re a girl”. This is more specifically about how Ritsu’s crossdressing is framed completely differently to how characters like Momiji and Ayame crossdress. They just do it explicitly because they’re carefree and self-confident and don’t care what people think about them, and it’s not a particularly major or defining part of who they are as a character. But with Ritsu, it ultimately ends up being one of his defining points as a character if only because this is basically all we ever see of him, and the story goes to pretty great lengths to detail how his motivations for cross-dressing come from an entirely different sort of place. Instead of him doing it because he’s naturally confident enough to not care about societal judgment, he does it because it’s the only thing that *makes him* feel confident in himself at all. It’s shown as being pretty much the one and only thing that alleviates his crippling self-hatred. In particular I think the flashback to him trying on one of Kagura’s dresses as a child and having a moment of realization and euphoria really feels like a distinctly Trans Experience [tm] kinda thing. Not to mention the other flashbacks to how he felt ashamed of himself because his parents were constantly apologizing to other people because of how he is, which comes across even more strongly as being specifically tied to his gender expression since at least in the anime, he’s also wearing a dress in that flashback.
It’s also worth noting that in the manga they placed a fair bit of emphasis, especially in his big talk with Tohru, about how he basically ‘wants to pull himself together and stop needing to dress like a woman’, as if it’s some sort of emotional crutch he needs to move on from, and it seems like that basically got cut out. Which is for the better, I’d say. I’ve said before in relation to Momiji that I also disliked there how [in the long run] his own crossdressing is treated as something temporary that he’ll inevitably move on from, and it stuck out even more in the manga when we also got this whole part later which even more explicitly framed cross-dressing as a ‘phase’ that someone needed to move on from. I guess in a lot of ways it really says a lot about the subtly yet meaningfully different way Ritsu’s framed in the reboot, that he just continues wearing his kimono throughout the whole episode and nobody really talks about it after Tohru finds out he’s a guy. I much prefer this more neutral framing of ‘this is just how he dresses and that’s cool’ more than ‘this is something he needs to stop doing in order to grow up’.
It all still feels a little bit outdated even in this version of the story, but I think it would have been even more noticeably outdated and uncomfortable if they had kept all of that stuff from the manga too. So I’m glad they cut it out. They did technically add an original bit near the end with Mitsuru realizing that Ritsu isn’t actually a woman, but I think that was handled perfectly well. Her reaction was basically just ‘oh I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have made assumptions like that’, and him freaking out about it was basically just treated as him getting unnecessarily apologetic for something that isn’t a problem at all. Interestingly enough, I think that little scene between them was at least vaguely inspired by that aforementioned bonus comic page about them.
It’s obvious that it’s not like the reboot’s gonna retcon it so that he’s trans now, but I much prefer this take on his crossdressing compared to the manga.
I’m kinda curious to see if they’re going to do more with him as a character after this in the reboot, since Takaya’s said before that his lack of screen-time and importance is one of her big regrets. Though it’s honestly kinda hard to think of where they could even fit him in, aside from maybe the summer vacation arc. Ultimately he kinda suffers from not really being connected to any of the other zodiac characters, which makes him the odd one out who’s difficult to insert into scenes. I think they could probably at least do something with his apparent friendship with Kagura, though, since that never really got elaborated on in the manga.
I’ve always wondered if him getting sidelined after his intro arc in the manga had anything to do with the fact that his arc was the exact point where Takaya’s hand injury caused the series to go on hiatus. It’s not like we’ll ever know one way or another, but I wonder if the fact that his introduction happened to coincide with such a stressful and draining part of her life made her want to basically ignore him as a character afterward to try and forget about all of that. But who knows.
I do have a feeling that the fact that they edited and fleshed out this episode a fair bit compared to the manga might be because Takaya wasn’t happy with what she did with this arc originally, which probably had a lot to do with her hand issues. It might have lead to her not being able to put as much care and thought into this arc in the manga as she would have liked, so she might have even given the anime staff some pointers on how she wanted it to be improved.
Anyway, that’s a lot more than I expected to say about this episode, lmao. All in all I liked it way more than I expected, and I hope they can find some sorta way to give Ritsu more screen-time than he got in the manga.
And as we basically all knew would happen, it looks like next week’s episode will be Hiro’s introduction. I’m kinda curious to see how that goes, since Hiro’s the sorta character who I think is well written for who he’s meant to be, but it doesn’t stop me from kinda hating him as a person, lmao. At least to the extent that you can hate a preteen kid for being annoying and bratty.

What's Yuki's relationship with his cousins like? We kinda see him interact with Ritsu, Kagura, and Momiji, but they were all there for reasons that had nothing to do with him so they didn't talk too much.
An interesting question! Truth be told I initially took Yuki on as a muse not just because I liked him and because I thought he was the only one who’s character I could do some justice, I knew that if I wrote for Yuki he would be a perfect character for me to write opposite with virtually anyone else in the Fruits Basket cast. It helps that he’s a main character, sure. But there’s a versatility to Yuki and how he interacts with his cousins.
Let’s consider: before he started living with Shigure, Yuki was kept away from his cousins with the exception of New Year’s. And even then, we’ve seen that he’s essentially stuck beside Akito the entire time. While the other zodiac members didn’t really know Yuki, he was a quiet, sweet enough boy where they didn’t have the incentive to dislike him, either. Only Kyo and Hatsuharu ever expressed a dislike for Yuki that was built up entirely from ignorant speculation and projection which, Haru eventually grew out of upon meeting Yuki. Kyo did not.
We know Yuki is closest to Kyo, Haru, Rin, Momiji, and Kagura. All but Momiji practiced martial arts with Shishou, so they would have spent the most time together (and we know Haru and Rin visited Yuki quite frequently when he was kept isolated away from everyone in that room). And, I think it’s realistic to imagine that Momiji would have been around Yuki via some association with Hatsuharu.
Kisa and Hiro are younger than Yuki by about 4-5 years so there’s definitely a little bit of a disconnect there, but they’re kids —- he can get away with treating them kindly and watching over them with the responsibility an older cousin would. Kisa though, he related to in her harder times so there is a particular kind of bond there.
As for the oldest three, it’s pretty self explanatory. Yuki lives with Shigure and likely only began to know grow a comfortable familiarity around the dog through living with him. Before that, I doubt the two interacted with one another at all. Hatori and Yuki I’ve talked about before; Hatori is one of the few Yuki has any negative feelings towards though they are more conflicted than negative. And I don’t think I need to go into his relationship with Ayame.
All in all, Kureno and Ritsu I think are the only two Yuki, even by the start of Fruits Basket sees with indifference. He’s kind and polite, but he’s likely interacted with the two the least. He doesn’t know Ritsu past his very obvious, manic energy that’s rather exhausting for the rat. And I don’t think we see Yuki interact with Kureno at all other than that one brief encounter at the summer home. However, it’s my own personal headcanon that the two have some kind of string of a bond due to the fact they were both so close to Akito. Even when Yuki was away from everyone else, Kureno was right there with him….away from everyone else.
Essentially, Yuki meets all of his cousins with a familiarity because it’s not like they are strangers. The only ones he holds any negative or conflicting feelings towards are Kyo, Ayame, Hatori, and obviously, Akito. Other than that, he gets along with everyone fairly easy even if there aren’t always overwhelming feelings of comradare.

What’s In a Dance? Part 13
A song requested from quite some time ago, but one that remains quite popular all year ‘round!
Hime Sanja (姫三社) - Three Shrine Princesses
Tumblr media
Image courtesy of KWC Photo on Instagram. An elegant song full of history, it’s a common dance performed during shrine dedication ceremonies.
Lryics
Ya~ Omoshiro no nigiwai te,  やー面白の賑て, Yeah~ In the bustling and lively area,  Kami wo isame no otomoyo ya, 神を勇めの音もよや, A brave god’s song, Dondo to naru mo hyōshi yoku, どんどと鳴るも拍子よく, Rings out with a strong beat, Naru to naranu wa, 鳴ると鳴らぬは, Ringing again and again, Sodefuru te byōshi,  袖振る手拍子, Sleeves swinging as hands clap,  Sōjae shime te shantoe, そうじゃえしめてしゃんとえ, At least it can be seen properly,  Yurume te nikoniko, ゆるめてにこにこ, Loosely smiling, Ōyoawane yochihaya furu, 逢う夜逢わぬ夜千早振る, Meeting, then meeting at night for the last time, after 1,000 early wakes,  Kami no mukashi wa futabashira, 神の昔は二柱, The gods of long ago formed two pillars, Ama no Iwato wo hiraku ya ume no migotoe, 天の岩戸を開くや梅の見事え, The Heavenly Rock Cave opened to the brilliant plum blossoms,  Hana no sakari wa shiorashii. 花の盛りはしおらしい. The main flower is wonderful.
The Breakdown
This is, once again, another song that weaves as much imagery from what it doesn’t say as what it does. The first half is pretty self explanatory as it speaks about the festive atmosphere at a shrine.  Looking at the start of the second half, one of the shrine maidens (presumably) thinks back to her encounter with a certain someone many, many times over. This is where we see the finality of her life and presumed love suicide as she mentioned that they met in the morning, which can represent life, over 1,000 times, yet their final meeting is at night, which can stand for death. Also, most love suicides are done at night, kinda like Romeo and Juliet.  In the final part, we’re reminded of the story of how Japan came to be as written in the Kojiki. The gods of long ago are referring to Izanagi and Izanami, who are the main creation gods in Japanese mythology as they created the first islands of Japan and the first deities too, and are the pillars on which Japan was built. From there, it jumps to the story of Amaterasu hiding a the cave, known simply as the “Heavenly Rock Cave,” because her brother Susanoo pissed her off to the point of her hiding in despair, which then covered the world in total darkness. She was eventually brought out from hiding by Ame No Uzumi, who did a bit of a drunken strip tease that made all of the other gods laugh and piqued Amaterasu’s curiosity. Upon exiting the cave, light was brought back to the world and flowers bloomed once more. Plum blossoms are considered the first “vogue” flower of the nobility, before cherry blossoms and wisteria were adopted, so it speaks of a time long ago. This is one of those dances that you always see done in groups and not solo due to the story that it weaves. Sure, it could be very elegant by a solo dancer, but you really don’t feel the effect quite like you do when you see an entire group of maiko (minimum of three) dance it on a shrine stage. While geiko could dance Hime Sanja, it’s considered more of a maiko song as the song deals with growth and change, which suits maiko much better as they are just as immature when it comes to their overall bloom. It is always danced with Kagura Suzu (神楽鈴), which are tiered bells that are often used in the dances of shrine maidens.
Each Kagai’s Version
Gion Kobu (祇園甲部) Version - Inoue School (井上流) Sorry Inoue fans, but this piece just isn’t danced by the Inoue School (at least not in a public setting). Pontocho (先斗町) Version - Onoe School (尾上流) Sorry again Onoe fans, but this is also left out from their repertoire.  Kamishichiken (上七軒) Version - Hanayagi School (花柳流) Do you see a trend yet? This is also not performed by the Hanayagi School either. Miyagawa Cho (宮川町) Version - Wakayagi School (若柳流) Oh hey, one of the most popular pieces performed by the maiko of Miyagawa Cho in public performances! You can usually guarantee to see it performed at least once a year, either for Setsubun or the dedication dances in April. I’m really not sure why Miyagawa Cho performs it so much, but it’s become a staple spectacle since it requires one hand to hold a mai ōgi while the other holds the kagura suzu. It’s both elegant and beautiful, which partially lends itself from the Wakayagi’s dynamic movements as the dancers do not stop moving at any given time, even if it’s just their head that’s still moving. This version is performed by Koyoshi (小芳) and Koharu (小はる) of Shigemori (しげ森), Kanako (叶子) of Kawahisa (川久), Fukutomo (ふく朋) of Horiyae (堀八重), and Kimitoyo (君とよ) of Toshikimi (利きみ). Gion Higashi (祇園東) Version - Fujima School (藤間流) A bit more of a feast for the eyes compared to the Wakayagi School, the dancers are staggered on stage and move together with their assigned rows. What’s really nice to see is that they all interact with each other and make sure that they’re visible to all four sides of the audience. Unlike the Wakayagi version, the Fujima one only uses kagura suzu and does not use mai ōgi. This is made up for, however, by the graceful hand gestures. This version is performed by Kanoka (叶果), Kanoyumi (叶祐美), and Kanoemi (叶笑) of Kanoya (叶家), Ryōka (涼香) of Sakaemasa (栄政), Fukuharu (富久春) of Okatome (岡とめ), and Tomitae (富多愛) of Tomikiku (富菊).

The lyrics provided were translated by myself and gathered from multiple sources; I began with a set that a friend had listed, compared it to two other sets (this was one of them and this was another), and figured out which made the most sense when written out as some versions just wrote the hiragana versions of a few kanji and it made the meanings a bit more ambiguous to people who are not fluent in Japanese. In the original version some older forms of common kanji were used so I updated them as this may also confuse people.

A Gintama episode a day keeps the ending away...Episode 17
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MY 5 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN EPISODE 17 (manga chaps 29 - 31):
Lotsa overlap moments with what I chose for my manga chaps post so I parred it down to just my top 5 moments out of all of them.
Tumblr media
1) Our beloved villain’s first appearance and he looks as villainous as you can expect.
Tumblr media
2) Thus, OkiKagu was bourne.
Tumblr media
3) Just...Kagura looking good in sunglasses, even if it’s Madao’s. That’s all I need to love it.
Tumblr media
4) I looovveddd this scene. Gave me the chills. So damn cool. And the manga had a decidedly chest-less angle...I appreciate the anime team’s decision to give us more Takasugi skin.
Tumblr media
5) Pretty sure I cried the first time I saw this. It’s so much worse with Saburo’s voice going straight for my heart. The whole story about Gengai and his son was just sad all over.
SHIPS TALLY:
Okita x Kagura: self-explanatory.
Tumblr media
Zura x Takasugi:  I think I shipped Zura with Takasugi more seriously than with Elizabeth or Gintoki in the beginning and it was thanks to their interaction in this arc.
Tumblr media
Gintoki x Takasugi: this moment reminded me of Hannibal and Clarice and I loved it (in case you’re wondering, yes, I used to ship Hannibal/Clarice, and yes, it’s all sorts of fucked up, but also yes, no regrets. Now I’m more into Hannibal/Will).
Tumblr media
Shinpachi x Kagura: that was Hasegawa’s idea but I did notice neither of them denied it in any way which was kinda odd.
Tumblr media
Kagura x Saburo: that’s Kagura’s personal ship and therefore I must honor it even though it had a tragic end.
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: Gintama is not only about shipping. Gintama is hilarious, clever, exciting, poignant, heart-breaking, loving, brilliant, and just completely unbelievably amazing.  It is only due to Sorachi-sama’s immense generosity that I am able enjoy Gintama on an extra another level, the shippy level, and I am forever grateful for that. GINTAMA IS LIFE AND LOVE.

A Gintama chapter a day keeps the ending away...Lesson 191
Tumblr media
My New Year’s resolution for 2017: re-read a chapter of Gintama every day starting from the beginning and relive the joy that is Gintama lesson-by-lesson. Hopefully I will never reach the end of the series should Sorachi-sama have a change of heart and never conclude it.
What I Loved in Lesson 191: (freaking of course EVERYTHING, especially after the reveal in the last panel!)
Tumblr media
I knew the Cloud lookalike was too good-looking to be a non-dork/loser character in reality.
Tumblr media
Zura fanboying over another game character again is just adorable.
Tumblr media
Hasegawa really was the obvious choice for D but I actually thought it was Yamazaki at first.
Tumblr media
Well at least he’s good at SOMETHING.
Tumblr media
Everything about this and everything that followed was just fucking PRECIOUS.
Tumblr media
It made SO MUCH SENSE after the reveal why Kagura would jump in.
Tumblr media
I totally thought these two were the actual aliens at first. But then afterwards, all of this just took on so much greatness for me, especially considering who the senior was. I guess this was Sorachi-sama’s way of indicating perhaps he’s a virgin in real life, which is just...I cannot stop giggling about it.
Tumblr media
Laughing forever. Kondou and his exhibitionist tendencies is just too much sometimes.
Tumblr media
I cannot get over that he is literally holding Kondou’s dick in his hands.ura
Tumblr media
Zura is so socially awkward sometimes it’s adorable.
Tumblr media
The reveal of who the two of them are: yeah I might’ve screamed a bit. Faintly recall jumping up and running around my room in sheer happiness.
Tumblr media
As if it wasn’t already quickly becoming one of my favorite arcs by this point, this pretty much sealed it.
Ships Tally:
GinHiji: omggggg so shippy, so cuuuuteeeee!!! Although I must admit I was a bit disappointed that Hijikata’s screwdriver head was just a TAD too big to fit into Gintoki’s socket wrench what-what. (And yes, I measured it.) I’m sure they could’ve still find a way to manage.
Tumblr media
GinOki, OkiSa, HijiSa: ok, technically all possibilities since Gintoki and Sacchan were kinda double-teaming Hijikata and Okita. And that sounded dirtier than I intended it to be.
Tumblr media
OkiKagu: it’s that red string of Fate connecting them at work; Kagura can’t even resist Sougo even when he’s in avatar form...an alien avatar wearing a unflattering white bodysuit with antennas at that.
Tumblr media
HijiKagu: well, since Kaguura Jusant technically was addressing both of them, this ship would apply too.
HijiOki: I should have gotten a clue just based on this statement, but somehow I still stupidly did not even have an inkling that it was them.
Tumblr media
KonHiji: self-explanatory, I think.
Tumblr media
HaseShin, or ShinD: I guess it’s more ShinD than the former since his fanboying stopped as soon as he realized who D was. I wonder if any AU Shinpachi/Cloud fanart or dj ever came out of this arc when it was first released. Would’ve loved to see some of that.
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: Gintama is not only about shipping. Gintama is hilarious, clever, exciting, poignant, heart-breaking, loving, brilliant, and just so freaking amazing.  It is only due to Sorachi-sama’s generosity that I can enjoy Gintama on yet another level, the shippy level, and I am forever grateful for that. GINTAMA IS LIFE AND LOVE.

A Gintama episode a day keeps the ending away...Episode 64
There was no title card...and I watched the episode twice tonight just to make sure I didn’t miss it the first time...unless I happened to blink twice at the same exact time and managed to miss it both times. So in lieu of a title card, here’s the title of the episode of The Edo WITHIN the episode:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MY 10 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN EPISODE 64 (manga chap 108):
One of my favorite episodes: a Zura-centric episode that’s as silly and adorable as he is. And OMG the Beetlehunt is next!!! I almost wanted to cheat and just watch it tonight!
Tumblr media
1) I love this goofball so much. He never fails to make me smile.
Tumblr media
2) The damage to Elizabeth by the Shinsengumi was SO MUCH worse than in the manga. Brutal.
Tumblr media
3) I was giggling throughout the entire Joui secret meeting scene. This moment was especially funny when two of his guys were arguing over Otsuu and one of them accidentally struck Zura with a Nmaibo and he didn’t even react to it at all, probably because he was already so used to shit like that going down at every meeting.
Tumblr media
4) ok, I know I’m being totally dirty-minded but THAT looked so freaking WEIRD, one’s mind can only go down the gutter. This was not in the manga btw.
Tumblr media
5) Elizabeth. Lmao.
Tumblr media
6) Their relationship in a nutshell pretty much.
Tumblr media
7) Kagura-chan robbing Zura of his chocolate Nmaibo was funny in the manga since it looked like she was groping his butt, but in the anime, Pachi-kun’s scene with Zura was funnier because he totally did not notice Zura and opened the door with him in it.
Tumblr media
8) The Prince of Sadists putting on his most sadistic of grins.
Tumblr media
9) I’m guessing it was Dragonia’s day off otherwise there’s no way in hell his generous appendage wouldn’t be hitting Zura in the face and blinding him. Of course, when I first watched this episode I wouldn’t even know who Dragonia was, so I think I was just wondering how many times has Zura seen Elizabeth naked and how comfortable he seems to be with the whole concept.
Tumblr media
10)  I was mostly horrified that Sougo was getting the blast right in his beautiful face. Hanano Saki had her arms and legs all bandaged up and she had to be in a wheelchair the next time we saw her, I shudder to think what kind of damage Okita sustained.
SHIPS TALLY:
Zura x Elizabeth: always.
Tumblr media
Zura x Ikumatsu: they were like an old married couple, what with Ikumatsu scolding him for bringing all these people into their house. Actually, considering the damage his presence caused, she did have a lot of reasons to be pissed at him.
Tumblr media
Zura x Hanano: for this one quick second, I would believe it if she fell in love with him.
Tumblr media
Gintoki x Zura: self-explanatory.
Tumblr media
Okita x Hanano: they really focused on Sougo holding her hand, and it was different from the manga, where he only grabbed her by the wrist and was pulling her to arrest her. Much less romantic.
Tumblr media

Gintama is hilarious, clever, exciting, poignant, heart-breaking, loving, brilliant, and just completely unbelievably amazing.  It is only due to Sorachi-sama’s immense generosity that I am able enjoy Gintama on an extra another level, the shippy level, and I am forever grateful for that.
