Here’s Kron’s trusty partner in chaos, also one of the few prey-only OCs in my roster. She was originally an adopt I purchased from @jellyjaws
Izimba is a descendant of a high-class dragonoid family, and comes from a lineage of elite magic users. She was sent to the prestigious Academy of the Mystic Arts to specialize in evocation, but although she was passionate and eager to learn, she was a terrible student (at least according to her professors).
Izimba was usually too fidgety to focus on lessons, and she always wanted to experiment and fool around instead of doing what she was supposed to do. On top of that, her personality irritated her colleges and mentors to the point of driving them away, so she never made any genuine friends while attending school.
Feeling like a huge disappointment to her family and peers, she made the bold decision to set off into the world and learn about mysticism HER way. And so, she travels from place to place, expanding her knowledge on a personal quest to master all the magical disciplines.

In academic or work situations, Izimba's high energy levels make her antsy, impulsive, and impatient, but despite this she is a lot smarter than most give her credit for.

-Her staff harnesses light and heat from her surroundings (including celestial bodies like the sun and moon), and can use it to create energy blasts, shields, freeze and burn objects, and light the way in darkness. However, using magic too often can lead to her overexerting herself and succumbing to exhaustion. On her travels, she has also grown more proficient in transmutation and alchemy, which gives her the power to manipulate earthly elements.
-She carries a book of spells and incantations wherever she goes, and uses it to take notes and collect more information for future reference.

-She ends up becoming partners with the armored bugbear Kron. While venturing into one of the more dangerous cities, she is caught off guard and overpowered by a group of bandits. Before they can kill her, Kron shows up beats the tar out of them, before carrying them off to claim his bounty.
Izimba immediately takes a liking to her rescuer and tags along, much to his annoyance. Kron tries over and over again to ditch her, to no avail, until they finally come to a compromise: Kron acts as Izimba’s bodyguard while she hunts for treasure, and Izimba acts as Kron’s healer while he pursues his bounties.
-Izimba tries to be a vegetarian once due to her love of animals, but she occasionally relapses because “animals are friggin’ delicious.” XD

Crack - are a medium level explosions have the ability to destroys cars and opening to building. The motion she uses is the snap of her fingers. This tends to be her most common use of action.
Bang- are a high level explosions that enable her to destroy multiple buildings and a wider terrain. In order to use this, she must create an orb like motion with her hand, think Piper from Charmed.
Boom - her most powerful use of explosion, that is always a last resort and instructed to use with caution. As this ability has been used to destroy cities, possibly even some countries. The motion used for this is basically saiyan pose.
drawbacks / vulnerabilities… Zaya needs to have clear mind to focus on her explosions otherwise their is a risk of them being the wrong scale or pin pointed to the perfect place. The bigger the explosion the more likely she is to experience extensive overheating that may result into her having fits. Most of the time she is in close contact with the explosions may also course excessive sweating, just a sign that she is doing her job. Due to the loudness of her attacks, Zaya has starting to lose hearing in one of her ears and if she is not careful can result into permeant hearing lost.

You can either lover her or hate, it doesn't matter as all of it just noise to her. When it comes to working with other agents she prefers not too. She knows that she is able to get something done better off alone. Flare is an utter asshole to other agents that are not her. She does not like to be partnered up unless you accept her words as command and have a power that is actually useful to the mission. If now you better take a stepback. Agent Flare looks down on level three agents as she believes that they will never be as useful as she is on the field.

Who the fuck thinks it’s ok to bring children to a Drag Strip show? Call CPS
A TikTok showing a very young girl being led through a bar by a half-nude drag queen with breast implants is making the rounds on Twitter and sparking outrage from netizens concerned about the girl’s safety.
On June 2, popular YouTuber Lauren Chen posted a TikTok she had found to her Twitter, writing: “These people belong in jail. This is a hill I’m willing to die on.”
The disturbing footage shows a very young girl being led by a provocatively dressed drag queen. The drag queen only had nipple pasties covering what appeared to be breast implants, and money stuffed into the skimpy underwear of his outfit. The girl is being held by the hand as the drag queen struts through a restaurant area, and continuously looks up at the man’s exposed body. The child also appears to also be clutching a few dollar bills in her free hand.
Overlayed onto the video is the text: “Children belong at drag shows!!!! Children deserve to see fun & expression & freedom!”
The source of the video posted by Chen was TikTok by user Nonie Kalra, who uploaded the original to her account earlier today. In her bio, she advertises a fundraiser for the Marsha P. Johnson foundation.
Kalra tagged the establishment the video was taken in — a Latin restaurant which caters to the LGBT community in Miami called R House Wynwood. On its website, the multi-purpose venue advertises hosting a ‘Drag Extravaganza‘ on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. Last year, Secret Miami ranked R House #1 on a list of “Fabulous LGBTQ Bars To Check Out In Miami.”
While it is unclear if the child in the video is Kalra’s or if she was just filming an occurrence at the restaurant while there, Kalra was supportive of it, writing in the comments “baby was in awe” in reference to the little girl apparently enjoying the show.
On a post from its Instagram made exactly two weeks ago, R House Wynwood posted a photo of a topless drag queen who looks similar to the one in the video uploaded by Chen. The caption reads: “We live for Escalando nights. What to expect? Salsa, drinks and a hell of a show.”
Since Chen’s post went live, the original TikTok has become inundated with negative comments, with many concerned users expressing outrage that a small child had been allowed in such a dramatically inappropriate setting.
On Twitter, users are similarly expressing disgust. Even a politician has since gotten involved, with Texas State Representative James White asking Chen where the event had occurred.
Many are wondering if punitive action is going to take place, and questioning the legality of having a child in a bar late at night.
“Where are the parents and why are they ok with this?” Asked one user in response to the video, with another replying: “Seriously. [I don’t know] how I could be just a random dude in that place and not stand up and at least say something. This is absolutely insane.”
Drag shows and their appropriateness for youth have become hot topics over the last few years, especially since the controversial spread of Drag Queen Story Hours across North America and Europe. In 2019, it was discovered that a registered sex offender had been performing at a Texas library for children as a Drag Queen.
On June 24, a Pennsylvania-based drag queen with a history of performing in front of children was charged with 25 counts of the possession and distribution of child sexual exploitation material following a 2-year long investigation by law enforcement officials.
Earlier in June, a video of ‘drag queens’ performing provocatively for an audience of children at a gay bar in Texas went viral on Twitter, prompting massive backlash and raising concerns about child safeguarding. The children were seated in front of a sign which read “It’s Not Gonna Lick Itself” as they watched drag queens perform, tipping the adults in cash.
The event had been subject to protests by right-wing advocacy group Protect Kids Texas, which stated on Twitter that they had 80 people outside of the venue voicing their concerns. The group also posted a video showing police showing up to the bar and escorting children from the venue.

Brought into the world a dark night with a storm raging outside the hospital, a small girl emerged into the world named avery after her late Great Grandfather. Her dark eyes bright and as time passed she became more curious getting into whatever she could, mud, paint, makeup. Always into something, always curious and that light within her eyes as remained for through her child and teen years though it didn’t seem to remain.
Our story brings us to the tale of quiet girl and her infectious smile that drew in the popular boy in high school. The love flourished quickly and soon they had graduated school and were planning life together. Both had agreed to remain as close to home as possible. Deciding instead of living on campus to live together. avery was thrilled by all of this and while so many told her that maybe they were moving too fast, the couple had two years under their belt and she was sure this was the right decision.
If you tried to ask avery where things began to go wrong. She probably wouldn’t be able to tell you honestly. Its like that saying if cooking a frog and gradually increasing the heat so they aren’t alarmed and don’t jump out. It wasn’t until Parker was deciding her hair length and color at the salon one day despite her desires that she began to wonder if it wasn’t normal that he picked everything for her. She just thought she was being a good wife, listening to her husband. She didn’t have her parents by the time they got married. Which didn’t help anything. He proposed a year after their death and she was still lost in grief. Part of her thinks he took advantage of that time. That weakness that left a gaping hole in her life. She tried so hard to fill that time with her own happy memories. Ignoring the red flags that emerged when they tried to get pregnant. It wasn’t until the third failed test that Parker’s anger truly began to unravel…
While he never laid a hand on her. He spent the better of part of their relationship dictating all the things that made avery, avery. He even made her dye her hair to a dark brown so she wouldn’t be the center of attention with her red hair. He ate away at her self esteem, the spark that made her who she was. The candle almost went out. Almost. It took losing all her friends, her inner voice, her self to finally realize that he was not the Parker she fell inlove with any longer. He was toxic and cruel. Constantly trying to make her jealous despite how beautiful she has always been, he made her feel like she wasn’t. The subject of leaving and divorcing Parker is a hard one for avery, but she tries to hide with jokes and dark humor but that is about it. It takes a level of trust avery hasn’t found in anyone in long time. While the divorce has been finalized, avery is still looking over her shoulder to make sure he doesn’t return to her life..
Currently: A few months divorced from her toxic husband who spent the better part of her twenties controlling her and everything she did from the length of her hair to the color of her socks and how she spoke to people.
It has been a slow process of her being able to think and act for herself that she’s still adjusting to. Starting with moving to a new town and new apartment away from all the memories of her ex-husband and their sham of a life together.
Since leaving him she started her own business after a few failed attempts at other jobs and companies. Nothing seemed to make her happy. She couldn’t handle taking orders from anyone else any longer and just wanted to be able to do what she wanted. So she quit. She struggled and finally moved on and started her own business. While she still working out of her second bedroom and she’s her only employee she’s truly happy.
Her business hours aren’t the most typical, so avery may or may not be spending her time living out what she missed in her twenties or that’s what she’s telling herself. It’s kind of hard when she moved to a new city and doesn’t have any friends after what happened with her ex-husband. So she’s been trying to get out more, remind herself that she doesn’t need to be focused on work all the time. Turning 30 made her realize how much time she had wasted and while she had finished college and had a few decent references it still felt like it wasn’t enough. She hadn’t travelled or seen the world hell this was her first time out of her hometown.
Her parents passed in her early twenties and she has no siblings. She still doesn’t really like talking about it and has sore memories from their accident and the fact that she wasn’t there even if it wasn’t her fault.

Alert 1x04 “Andy” Review
Hey everyone!! Here’s my thoughts on this weeks episode 1x04 “Andy:”
- okay so i actually thought that this was a strong episode, dare i say the strongest we’ve seen yet? there wasn’t a ton of unbelievable nonsense (don’t get me wrong there was still some, just not as much as we’ve previously seen lol) and the case of the week kinda had an interesting twist. i read in a recent article (i forget which one) that this case is actually based on a true story…. that’s crazy!
- can i just say the little boy who played Andy was so freaking cute!! that being said, i feel like there was a lot of times when andy could’ve run away from his kidnappers (or real mother idk lol), like when his bio mother and the other guy was arguing he could’ve easily run away but like i guess it would’ve been risky, especially because the other kidnapper had a gun. but idk that’s probs just me being picky haha!
- i thought there was a healthy and more natural balance between the case and the characters personal issues/other storylines. finally! this is the first episode i can mostly confidently say that the balance actually worked!
- to go off of the case more, i have to really question nikki on this one. how the hell is she the leader of the missing persons unit if she writes the report with lies to protect the fake mother? like i get it, it’s better for the child but that woman still stole a child that wasn’t hers and nikki just basically let it happen! i want andy to stay with the fake mom too but that’s not lawfully right and if anyone every found out that nikki didn’t tell the truth in her report, she would definitely be fired! idk nikki was just off to me in this episode. i think she connected too personally with this case and it really showed that she couldn’t do her job with the correct morals of upholding the law.
- speaking of nikki, i thought dania ramirez was a bit bland this episode… it might’ve been just me but some of her dialogue seemed a bit flat. also i don’t know how much more i can take if she keeps calling everyone babies or her catchline of “saving our babies, that’s what we do.” like it was fine the first episode or two but it’s definitely not needed every episode.
- how the heck has jason not talked to june and apologized!! i’m sorry but if i was june i wouldn’t take him back! sorry jason! also, side note, when june said she was seeing someone else, i really thought she was admittedly cheating on jason. but ya if she wants a kid so bad, i don’t blame her for going and getting it done herself without jason’s help. i wonder if they’ll be back together… also does june know that keith is back? we never got that answered! lol
- i will say this again… what the hell is kemi doing? i’m probably ignorant and don’t know a lot about different spiritualities but i feel like it’s not needed in this show. the show is a procedural cop show, they solve the cases based on facts and clues, not so much in faith. it’s super interesting but it’s just not right for this show. now adding the new perspective of sidney and her “darkness” in her eyes, brings a new element for kemi because it relates to the keith mystery.
- i really liked how mike and jason teamed up for a lot of the episode… they obviously don’t see eye to eye on most things but it’s interesting to see them work together. i also like scott caan’s and ryan broussard’s dynamic and i would luv to see more of that in future episodes! also i do kinda luv jason’s recklessness, maybe it’s because scott caan’s danny from H5-0 was so reserved but it adds a bit more spark to the show, even if some of it is a bit unbelievable.
- the keith mystery once again deepens! we didn’t get too much farther this episode… i think we all kinda knew that the dna would match (keith had to of switched the baby hair to his). also i saw a theory that maybe jason wanted “keith” to be his son so bad that he didn’t show all of the dna paperwork to nikki. i’m not too sure about that one but it’s def something to consider as a possibility! now the new thing we found out is that keith supposedly drowned and sidney (and maybe her friend) was there to witness it. now we just have to find out who’s at the bottom of the lake.
- again i thought scott was great, i laughed out loud more this episode than in previous ones. i must admit, i thought it was a strong episode, some obvious blips but overall much better than the pilot! also maybe it was because “C” wasn’t there.. sorry i hate to be that person haha lol! i feel like it’s just a different dynamic when he’s there because he’s basically just filling up unneeded space.. the last two episode have been perfectly (dare i say more than) fine without him. he’s not needed, sorry y’all haha! i like the actor, nothing against him but his characters just isn’t it for me.
again, these are just my personal opinions. next weeks promo looks good! jason seems to be in a bit of trouble?!

general facts
tallulah carter started out her existence by stealing the spotlight from her twin -- a habit that never really stopped. while lulu was expected, her completely blocked her brother out in the first sonogram images.
as a child, she was was an agile and talented daredevil -- attempting to climb trees and scale bookshelves almost as soon as she could walk. looking to channel her athetlicism (or just to at least wear her out), her parents enrolled her in gymnastics classes at the age of three.
she quickly excelled past the other children her age level, flying past sommersalts and cartwheels in exchange for handsprings and balance beam tricks. she was crowned the youth champion at every compeition in the state, which was followed by being recruited by team USA coaches when she was eleven years old.
while she stayed on top of her schooling, the rigourous training as far more appealing to lu, having her full focus while she handled most other things on autopilot
joined USA olympic gymnastics team as an alternate at fifteen, formal member at nineteen and again twenty three -- closest she got to the podium was a fourth for vault (she missed out by a 10th of a point)
determined to make one more run and finally get a medal, tallulah was relentless in maintaining her training (something every one of her coaches advised her against), pushing herself over the limit the way she had seen many great atheletes do in order to become the best
years of training and competition had taken their toll, and tallulah was required to get hip surgery in hopes to repairing the damage. unfortunately, the surgery didn't heal correctly -- lulu was forced so retire from gymnastics at the age of twenty-five
as a result of the surgery ending poorly, tallulah was given prescription drugs to manage the constant pain. when she started physical therapy she was told to slowly wean herself off of them, but she wasn't able to cope. after a tumultous eight months and a hard rock bottom, she was sent to rehab.

The castle is cold, perpetually. An ancient stone building, it is more hallways and dungeons and windows than it is hearths and cosy corners; Andhera should know. They have sought out every one they could find. Sometimes, the best way to get warm beneath the vaulted stone ceilings of the castle is to make yourself smaller, curl inwards and tuck your chin against your forearms against your knees and gather the warmth of your breath in the hollow place between your chest and thighs. This is not that- a brief, stale respite of warmth that so quickly gets dispersed in the cool air. This- Binx- is a vast warmth. The wave of heat, opening a door into a room with a roaring fire. Steadiness and certainty, arms wrapped tight around shoulders in the breathless suffocation of a dearly need hug. Late afternoon grass, long warmed by a summer sun high overhead with only a few clouds to block it’s light. Andhera feels a spark of familiarity, one they didn’t expect, deep in their chest. That is Binx’s magic as it settles over their shoulders.
Andhera’s mouth is dry, watching her. Eyes squeezed closed, fingers flicking- conducting a miniature orchestra- mouth curled into what is almost a smile as she mutters something Andhera cannot hear under her breath. He is staring. He can’t bring himself to stop.

oh god i wish i knew. song lyrics, mostly (as you well know and rightfully make fun of me for, dear casey). occasionally when i'm writing/when i've finished a fic i'll have a really clear idea for a title and use that, but mostly i give all my wips silly nonsense working titles and then after i finish the work i panic and scroll around through song lyrics for inspo and use them skjfvnsfkbjn
that said, i think Steve Harrington: a thesis on wanting, and being wanted, is a really good title, as well as my most recent figgorgug woke up in a safe house singing (honey let's get married), which was the title i had for that fic almost from conception <3

T100 verse: now here me out bc this is Sexy. He's a mountain man. He and his brothers were extremely poor and stratification still existed in the mountain. He was taken and experimented on by the mountain men as an attempt to find immunity to the radiation outside. These experiments left him almost completely blind and nearly killed him. They also thought that they could use him as a bio weapon against the grounders if they figured out the right dosage. It was june who ended up saving his life with a bone marrow transplant. Day, it turns out, was the one immune to the radiation. Their older brother, john, died saving their lives. Eden is very interested in figuring things out and would follow raven and monty around trying to help. And he's brilliant so he would. Engineer in the making and is able to build with little tech. Would make it into the bunker where monty wouldn't :((( and the violence would remind him of the mountain. He has nightmares every night. Day tries so hard to protect him, it ends up backfiring and causing a rift in their relationship.
Across verses: he refers to day as Daniel but day is well known as the person who sparks revolutions and fights against the system etc. If i mess up and call him day mind your business ❤️

Beelzebul, currently known as the Raiden Shogun or Ei, in the archon of electro. Her ideology is eternity, seeing whatever she can to permanently preserve eternity for the people of Inazuma and herself.
During the archon war, a war among the Gods of Tevyat before peace was unsure by establishing the role of archons, Beezlebul was the younger twin sister to Baal. Though only one is allowed the role of archon, the role was given to twins. They kept the secret of their role as twins to everyone, as they were so close and ruled together like clockwork, that neither felt it was needed to tell the people of Inazuma.
Yet when the Electro Archon was forced by Celestia to destroy Khanri'ah, a country ruled by no archon and technologically advanced, a terrible catastrophe emerged from the destruction. It resulted in the death of the dendro archon, the cry archon developing trauma, the geo archon was controlled by force and the deaths of countless mortal lives. This included the deaths of Ei's closest friends, and her own sister.
Following the deaths of her friends and sister, Ei's mind snapped for the next five hundred years. She believed that in order to ensure she never experience pain again, she would create eternity for everyone. This included several experiments by creating body clones. One of which was a male body, which was deemed a failure by her. Yet she took pity upon the failure, and let him live as an ordinary human. Unknown to her is that this body is named Scaramouche and works for the Fatui.
Five hundred years later, she created a decree that banned everyone from entering the country, with the exception of one island named Ritou for goods. This includes shutting away all immigrants from returning home, pushing them all to live on the island of Ritou with the merchants.
Yet her worse decree is hunting humans for their visions. If a mortal with a vision, a sacred jewel that blesses the human with elemental powers from that respective archon, can ascend to archon then Raiden will strip that away from them. Even if it means they lose their memories and fall to insanity, or kills them, she is ruthless in her ideal.
The vision hunt decree is a law she placed within Inazuma that will take away all visions granted. Though she is 'kind' enough to not destroy them, but instead seal them within a statue of herself placed within Inazuma city. A terrifying reminder of how she'll destroy everyone's hopes and dreams for herself. Not to mention the countless lives she has killed when they refuse to cooperate in handing their vision.
The only exceptions to the vision hunt decree are the nobles beneath her. She needs the support of the nobles to get anything done in Inazuma's systems, so they're spared from this so long as they're high enough on her hierarchy system.
Though one particular death was the last straw for the people of Inazuma. Tomo was a beloved samurai across Inazuma. A charmer and flirtatious, but tried to defy the vision hunt decree. When he battled for the right to keep his vision and lost, Raiden showed him her full divine punishment for his loss. Killing him and sparking a massive inner uprising with all vision users in Inazuma. Yet Raiden's thoughts? She doesn't even remember him. He was just another human in the obstacle of eternity.
With such a kind man dead, a rebellion began with all vision users in Inazuma. Raiden thought she could temper the flames of this uprising by creating a storm so bad that lightning strikes would surely kill them all eventually, but it seems they learned to maneuver pass her lightning.
Raiden is cold and cruel, often facing everyone with a dead stare in her eyes. The once elegant and stern Raiden Shogun is not ruthless and unstable as lightning itself. Yet there is a gentle nature hidden behind the storms.
She has a deep love of animals. Specifically: Shiba Inu, Crows and sparrows. When no one is looking, she'll often gently pet the birds that love to spend time in her garden or feed the local dogs of Inazuma City. She also has a love of sweets. Her favorite desserts are strawberry daifuku, tricolor dango mochi, taiyaki and yokan. Though not a soul knows about this side of her. Eternity means being an ever present figure, not a human. Emotions are for mortals, right?
Much like the cryo archon, the destruction of Khaenri'ah has made Raiden wish to rebel against Celestia. Her belief is that eternity will prevent Celestia from someday deciding to destroy Inazuma as well if the people advance too far and to protect those she cannot afford to lose anymore.
She uses her quest for eternity to ensure eternity for everyone else. Even if it means a few people die, it would have to take an outsider from another world to make Baal see the error in her ways.
Despite appearing cold and strict, Baal can be gentle and beautifully elegant. While many fear her for the power she possesses in a single gaze, many are also stunned by her beauty and elegance when she enters a room. Women and men across Inazuma, worship her as the Shogun of Inazuma, while many despise her for her cruel tactics.

Neither really having any serious plans when it came to a relationship. But they enjoyed being around each other.
It was her idea to get married. She was always more career driven and wanted to take on a more serious role in her families company. The thing was her parents were old fashion and wanted her to be married and focus on that part first. Rowan who had always kinda been the black sheep of his family. He had two successful siblings and admittedly liked the idea of his parents having a reason to be proud so they both got a little something out of it.
They had fun at first with their honeymoon phase and it worked with her dad being satisfied enough now to bring her in more with the company but things began to change. What was fun began to set in to more of an arrangement feel as Rowan took a job at the company and the initial spark began to wear off.
Now, after a couple years a lot of their lives feels separate. Rowan is not a faithful husband, and lives as he wants when he is not with her. Whether she is the same way is totally up to you! Maybe they both do as they please with other people. Or maybe it is just him having affairs and she can know or not know. We can figure that out together :)

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken received a muted greeting as he arrived in China on Sunday to kick off high-stakes diplomatic talks.
He was welcomed by Yang Tao, Director General of the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, and U.S. Ambassador to China, Nicholas Burns, as he landed in Beijing.
Blinken is the first top U.S. diplomat to visit China in five years, continuing frosty U.S.-China relations. A February trip was postponed following the diplomatic tumult sparked by what the U.S. said was a Chinese spy balloon flying over American airspace.
Photos and videos showed there was no red carpet to welcome Blinken, and only a small number of officials had gathered at the airport.
Human rights activist Jennifer Zeng, who has lived in the U.S. for the past 12 years, noted in a tweet that "only the U.S. ambassador and Yang Tao, the director of the North America and Oceania Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (a much lower level #CCP official) were present to welcome him at the airport. No red carpet. No welcoming crowds, no waist drum performance… This, according to Chinese standards and culture, is a deliberate humiliation."
Professor Steve Tsang, Director of the China Institute at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, U.K., told Newsweek that Blinken's visit is viewed by Beijing as a concession to the U.S.
Blinken "is trying to re-open high-level dialogue and set up some kind of guardrails to reduce risk for US-China relations to slide further," Tsang said.
"Beijing essentially thinks that the USA is at fault and unless the U.S. side shows 'sincerity' and retracts from its hostile approach to China, there's not much to talk about.
"So, the very fact that the visit is taking place is already being seen by Beijing as a concession it has made to the U.S. Unless Blinken has something to offer Beijing that Beijing sees as valuable (thus showing sincerity on the part of the U.S.), the visit is unlikely to secure concrete results."
Twitters users quickly compared the lack of fanfare for Blinken's arrival to the grand welcome received by French President Emmanuel Macron when he arrived in China for a state visit in April.
China rolled out the red carpet for Macron, with China's top diplomat Wang Yi greeting him at the airport. A Chinese guard of honor and children were also part of Macron's welcome.
"No red carpet, no greeting party," wrote Zhao DaShuai,, who in her Twitter bio claims to be an employee of the People's Armed Police Propaganda Bureau.
"But it's still, it better than Ursula von der Leyen having to get off from a commercial terminal. Let's see if he's important enough to meet President Xi [Jinping] like Bill Gates just did."
Although Twitter is officially blocked in China, some Chinese companies and national media, such as Huawei and CCTV, use the service through a government-approved VPN. Many government departments and officials have their own accounts.
Another Twitter user shared video of Blinken's arrival, writing: "No red carpet. No high ranking officials to meet him. Just a red line to cross."
However, some said the two visits should not be compared.
"Blinken is a cabinet level official on a work visit, while Macron is the head of state on a state visit," a Twitter user noted.
Former President Donald Trump also received a lavish welcoming ceremony when he arrived in Beijing for a state visit in 2017. He descended from a red-carpeted staircase to uniformed guards and children waving U.S. and China flags.
Blinken began his visit by meeting Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang for an extended discussion, The Associated Press reported.
He will hold further talks with Qin as well as Wang, China's top diplomat, on Monday, and possibly meet President Xi.
Asked if Blinken could ease tensions with China on his trip, President Joe Biden told reporters on Saturday: "Sure. Well, look, China has some legitimate difficulties unrelating to the—unrelated to the United States. And I think one of the things that that balloon caused was not so much that it got shot down, but I don't think the leadership knew where it was and knew what was in it and knew what was going on. I think it was more embarrassing than it was intentional.
"And so, I'm hoping that, over the next several months, I'll be meeting with Xi again and talking about legitimate differences we have but also how there's areas we can get along."

Tiger Strikes Asteroid Chicago is pleased to present Dwelling Places, a solo exhibition of work by Elnaz Javani, who was selected through TSA Chicago’s first open call. Here, Javani presents a new body of work which includes small and large-scale, hand-dyed and printed textiles that incorporate surface manipulation, appliqué, and hand-stitching. Exploring how the body is affected and shaped by its negotiations with the objects and spaces around them, Javani creates surfaces in which identities are constantly being reconsidered and set into new relations with their surroundings, addressing the slippage that is always present.
In Queer Phenomenology, Sara Ahmed writes about the notion of disorientation as not only a bodily feeling but also a political concept. The way our bodies move about in the world, the way certain objects and places are accessible to us, indicate that there are some sites in which we feel habituated—our bodies are “in place”—and other sites in which we don’t. This disorientation takes the form of moments of perceived loss, of “failed orientation,” that give rise to new directions for creating a sense of belonging.
Through the acts of layering, cutting, printing, dying and sewing, Javani creates moments of disorientation and reorientation that question history, gender, culture and celebrate confusion, doubt, and entanglement as generative forces. Her engagement with tactile materials models how we can use storytelling and image-making as transformative strategies for survival and resistance by challenging dominant narratives that simplify and flatten the experience. It is through moments of disorientation, she proposes, that we might learn what it means to be oriented in the first place.

Elnaz Javani is an Iranian artist and educator currently residing in Chicago. She works between the media of textiles, drawing, print, and installations. Her practice revolves around the fragmentation of identity and place, power dynamics and labor. Through layering, stitching and dye; she tries to construct a personal, fictional and imaginary space of existence. She holds an MFA in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she was the recipient of the New Artist Society Merit Scholarship, and holds a BFA from Tehran University of Art. Javani is a 2023 Center for Craft Artist Cohort Grant Recipient and she was awarded Faculty Enrichment Grants from SAIC 2022-2021, and was named one of Chicago's Break Out Artists of the year for 2022, she has received a Spark Grant from Chicago Artist Coalition (2021), the Kala Art Institute Fellowship Award and Residency Grant (2020), the Define American Art Fellowship Grant (2020), and the Hyde Park Art Center Flex Space Residency Award (2019). Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally in the USA, Spain, Iran, France, Colombia, Turkey, UAE, Germany, Canada, and Switzerland.

If you want a fun quirky Austen movie, Northanger Abbey is RIGHT there.
You could absolutely shoot it in two palettes. Something vibrant for real life, and something muted and gothic for Catherine's interpretation of what's going on around her. And just have FUN with it. Instead of the Persuasion adaptation that doesn't seem to have even read the Spark Notes.

Just a heads up, ColourPop just announced a HP line of cosmetics, and when met with a very reasonable disapproval (as JK Rowling actively uses her HP money to support TERF legislature, groups, etc)... they posted this three part "explanation.”

So not only did they not acknowledge what’s an issue, why it’s an issue - they basically said that your pain is not equal to someone else’s wish for a HP palette. And then said that they’re going to try to ethically offset the harm JKR will cause by making donations (but not volunteering an amount). Which PS - you can’t do that.
Also: ignoring that suicide is a major issue for Trans youth while doing this is incredibly shitty.
TL;DR - ColorPop is releasing a HP line and lost me as a customer.
