Bulacan
Bulacan is known as the city of heroes, why? Because most of the heroes lived there and approximately worked there. The early people of Bulacan, had also risen in revolt as in other parts of the country. Bulacan was one of the eight provinces, which rallied behind the Katipunan's call for an all-out insurrection against the Spanish occupation in the late 19th century. Marcelo H. Del Pilar (Kupang, San Nicolas, Bulakan), the "Great Propagandist" of the Philippine Propaganda Movement. General Gregorio del Pilar (San Jose, Bulakan), Marcelo H. del Pilar's nephew, one of the youngest revolutionary generals during the Philippine Revolution and the Philippine–American War, died at the Battle of Tirad Pass. Mariano Ponce (Baliuag), physician, Propagandist Pío Valenzuela (Polo), physician, Katipunan leader, established Katipunan branches in Morong and Bulacan; co-founded "Kalayaan", the Katipunan newsletter; emissary of Andrés Bonifacio to José Rizal. Trinidad Tecson (San Miguel de Mayumo), female Katipunan revolutionary. Felipe Buencamino, Sr. (San Miguel de Mayumo),revolutionary, co-writer of the Constitution of the Philippine Republic at Malolos. Commodore Ramon A. Alcaraz (Plaridel), World War II veteran - Captain of Q-boat 112 ABRA Shot down 3 Japanese Zero fighters Gat Ciriaco Contreras (Meycauayan). Defended the Barrio of Langka and commanded the katipuneros of year 1898 against the spaniards, one of the foundations of Bulacan alongside the Supremo Gat Andres Bonifacio. Also one of the Commanding Officers of the Supremo.
The office of the heroes are indigenously made which are made by rocks and it is known and called "Biak na Bato" , During the Philippine Revolution in 1897, newly appointed Governor-General Fernando Primo de Rivera decided to crush Emilio Aguinaldo and his troops in Cavite, but Aguinaldo fled to Batangas and joined forces with Gen. Miguel Malvar. The Spaniards continue their pursuit but the troops outwitted them by going to the province of Morong (now Rizal) and finally to Biak-na-Bato in San Miguel, Bulacan. Aguinaldo made the mountain caves into his headquarters. Biak-na-Bato (21.17 km² in the villages of Kalawakan and Talbak in Doña Remedios Trinidad town and the villages of Biak-na-Bato and Sibul) served as one of the camps of the revolutionary Katipunan forces during the Philippine Revolution. It was declared a national park by Manuel L. Quezon on Nov. 16, 1937 through Proclamation No. 223. Since I lived there for years, I've discovered tons of beauty in that city including "Banal na Bundok" where saints and spiritual beings are adequately explained omnipotently where lots of people visits there for a peaceful life and an astounding future. Hundreds of rivers are abundant of clean water and forest that can make you chill by the fresh air that the trees are giving into. According to the leaders of the city, The municipality of San Miguel de Mayumo was established in 1763 by Carlos Agustin Maniquiz, Maria Juana Puno - wife of Carlos Agustin Maniquiz and Miguel Pineda, with Pineda as the first town mayor of San Miguel. Miguel Pineda was a native of Angat, Bulacan who decided to settle permanently in the barrio of San Bartolome (now named Barangay Tartaro). He found the place ideal for hunting and was later chosen as the leader of other settlers. He formed an alliance with Mariano Puno, the recognized leader of the adjacent prosperous village called Santo Rosario (now named Barangay Mandile). The town was previously part of Pampanga, hence San Miguel’s culture having Kapampangan influence. In 1848, the town and the neighbouring barrios, which were then part of Pampanga, were added to the territory of the Province of Bulacan.

A’s Stun Twins In 9th.
Athletics 4 Twins 5 W-Treinen (3-3) L-Rogers (2-2) SV-Hendriks (8)
The Minnesota Twins and Oakland A’s are very good teams and have played some good games in July. Tonight was the same case as the two sides squared off once again in Minneapolis. The Twins got going in the first inning. Mitch Garver led-off and smoked a Brett Anderson fastball out to right for a solo blast. Two batters later, Nelson Cruz belted a change-up out to center for solo homer. This put the Twins up 2-0 after an inning of play. Meanwhile, Jose Berrios took the two runs and ran with it over 5 2/3 scoreless frames. The Twins bullpen had other plans in the last three innings though. Tyler Duffey walked Marcus Semien to start the seventh and Zack Littell came on with one out. He struck out Matt Olson, but that brought up Mark Canha. Canha smashed a slider out to left for a two-run blast that tied the game. The next batter, Ramon Laureano drilled a fastball out to right-center for a solo homer and the A’s were up 3-2 in a blink of an eye. The Twins would answer in the bottom of the seventh though. Miguel Sano lined a Brett Anderson slider out to left for a game-tying solo home run. Later in the inning, CJ Cron singled to left and Max Kepler singled to right that put Cron at third base. Ehire Adrianza pinch-ran for Cron and Jonathan Schoop hit a flyball to left. Adrianza tagged from third and made it home. This put the Twins up 4-3 after seven frames. Blake Parker threw a clean eighth and we headed to a interesting ninth. Taylor Rogers came on and retired the first two batters. Mark Canha was hit by a slider and Ramon Laureano doubled. Khris Davis then hit a hot shot to Ehire Adrianza at first that he couldn’t handle. Two runs scored on the play and the A’s took a 5-4 lead. Liam Hendriks came on for the ninth and things got even more interesting. Max Kepler singled with one out and Jonathan Schoop doubled. Eddie Rosario was intentionally walked to load up the bases. Mitch Garver then hit into a double play to short and the game was over. The Twins lost in a weird one at Target Field tonight.
-Final Thoughts- Jose Berrios was solid tonight going 5 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. He threw too many pitches in a short amount of time. Tyler Duffey got out of the sixth, but allowed a run in the seventh. Zack Littell gave up two runs in the seventh. Blake Parker had a scoreless eighth and Taylor Rogers had a bad outing. He was charged with two runs on three hits in the ninth. Miguel Sano and Max Kepler led the way with two hits each. The Twins hit 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. The Phillies claimed Mike Morin and the Angels claimed Adalberto Mejia after they were both designated for assignment. No word on Matt Magill’s situation yet. Tomorrow, Daniel Mengden faces Michael Pineda in the series finale.

FBB 2021 Team Awards & Review
This team was supposed to finish in last place according to my Rotowire draft software. In the end, I finished in 3rd place. (I dropped from 2nd on the last day of the season.) So, I stand with this theory for my success; this was a “made” team. And boy, was it fun.
I decided early on to go with high-risk, young starters. Ergo, why I have Cease, McClanahan, and Manoah on my roster. McKenzie came later, as did Rasmussen. These guys were hot hands with great promise and great risk. I listened to the analysts on these guys. Maybe too much, but it worked out.
My team fluctuated between 2nd and 6th place most of the season, but once my young starters settled in, I stayed around 3rd place.
Team MVP: Cedric Mullins $1 - when Oscar Mercado didn’t make the team with Cleveland, I had an opening in my outfield. I knew there was a good chance he’d get decent playing time, but never did I believe that he would explode for a 30/30 season. What a bargain.
Next Best: Matt Olson $15
Team Cy Young: Dylan Cease $1 - heard Vlad Guerero Jr say he was the toughest pitcher he had faced in the minors, so I grabbed him when one of my starters went down. Cease was inconsistent at times, but delivered the Ks.
My Value Pick: Cedric Mullins $1 - I mean, $1 for a 30/30 season
Trade Evaluation: Early on in the season, I traded Jake Odorizzi and Greg Holland for Amed Rosario. (I was trying to get Wander Franco.) I felt my team was in bad shape, so I looked long term. It took some time for Rosario to get going but he finished strong.
Regrets: Trading Carlos Correa when I thought I was really out of it. He was solid all season and Vidal Brujan never got the call up.
My Re-Made Team
I usually subscribe to the idea that your team is made in the draft, but this team proves that this is not entirely true. Other than my catchers, I only retained 5 of my position players from the draft.
As for my pitching staff, I only retained 2 of my original pitchers.

THE LAST GRAND SLAM
by Bert A. Ramirez / July 10, 2020
Tumblr media
Six years ago today, the then-San Mig Super Coffee Mixers achieved the most coveted feat in the PBA – a grand-slam victory or a championship triple – by beating the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters 92-89 in the fifth and deciding game of the Governors’ Cup Conference finals. The humdinger of a win gave the Mixers a fourth straight PBA title at that point, a feat that’s certainly the high point in the original Purefoods franchise's illustrious history.
The singular achievement, only the fifth, and, as it’s turned out, the last grand slam in PBA annals, was fraught with all the trappings of a development that could have only been brought by destiny.  After all, the events that unfolded to eventually see the first grand-slam win in the league being pulled off after 18 long years all pointed to a providential, if not divine, element in play throughout the historic journey that it took.
How can one explain what took place in the fifth and deciding game, for example?  The Mixers, rebuffed decisively in their first attempt to clinch the rare feat in Game 4, worked painstakingly this time to take the initiative early, never allowing the Elasto Painters to go ahead after the latter tied it up at 34 midway through the second quarter.  They then went on a murderous stretch to take a seemingly formidable 69-53 lead, aided by the benching of Arizona Reid who was hobbling with a sprained ankle he sustained in the previous contest.
That Reid injury came out of the blue, and definitely was a factor in this contest, as was several misplays normally not committed by the E-Painters.  That pass by Paul Lee (now a Magnolia player after that monumental 2016 trade for former franchise face James Yap to ROS) to a teammate that was somehow obstructed by the referee in front of the ROS bench was a case in point.  San Mig’s blowing all but one point of that 16-point lead once Reid returned, as well as the Mixers’ holding firm never to relinquish it also had some air of providence to it, as did the four straight misses from the line by Yap and Marc Barroca, two of San Mig’s better free-throw shooters then, in the dying seconds that left the door open for the E-Painters, yet didn’t make any difference in the end.
And those successive misses from three-point distance by Jeff Chan, Lee and finally Reid on that last play, though defended well, would also indicate that luck – or fate – was simply not on the E-Painters’ side.  Heck, those three were among the best three-point bombers in the entire PBA at that point, and Lee himself demonstrated that earlier in this game where he hit treys seemingly coming from the parking lot, and Reid had made it a habit of burning San Mig on that front particularly in their two victories in the series.
But the fact that these three tried to at least extend the game into overtime, but failed, seemed to tell all and sundry that, no, it couldn’t happen simply because San Mig was destined to win this coveted and prestigious grand slam, certainly the greatest feat any team can accomplish in the local pro league.
The journey that the Mixers took to get this “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” as Yap who won the Finals MVP himself described it, was also fraught with circumstances that point to a destined grand-slam victory by San Mig.  In the two previous conferences where they had to win to set up this date with destiny, the Mixers had to survive seven do-or-die battles, eight if one included their Game 7 victory over sister team Petron in the 2013 Governors’ Cup, where they last used the name B-Meg in their continuing evolution from the original Hotdogs franchise.
They had to beat Talk ‘N Text in the deciding game of a best-of-three quarterfinal series in the 2014 Philippine Cup, where they had a 1-5 start partly due to injuries and had to win four straight games at the end of the eliminations just to qualify for the playoffs.  They also had to do the same in Game 7 of their semifinal matchup against Giñebra witnessed by an all-time PBA record crowd of 24,886.  That was the game where they blew out the Gin Kings aided by the 30 points of Big Game James and the 28 of P.J. Simon.
Then, the Mixers had to come from being snuffed out twice by Alaska in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Commissioner’s Cup after falling behind 1-0 and having to win the rubber match, and also had to survive Air21 in a deciding game in their best-of-five semifinal series.  Finally, San Mig had to beat both TNT and ROS in the semifinals and finals of this conference to complete the grand-slam journey.
This historic feat by the Mixers – as indicated by the kind of journey it took – might not have come with the dominance that the four earlier grand slams were accomplished, but it certainly stands out for the determination, grit and teamwork it took to achieve it.  One should note that Crispa’s two grand slams in 1976 and 1983 took place seven years apart of each other, while San Miguel Beer’s came six years after that in 1989, and Alaska’s own followed after another seven years in 1996.
That it took all of 18 years for another grand slam to happen might be attributed to the much greater difficulty of pulling off such a feat at that point due to the PBA’s greater balance, where no single team could dominate unlike in the Crispa-Toyota days or the days of San Miguel Beer that used the core of the Northern Consolidated team, or Alaska that prided itself with the chemistry that was developed by, yes, Tim Cone, the same coach that orchestrated this phenomenal San Mig achievement who to that point already stood all alone at the top of the league’s coaching firmament as the only one to have won two grand slams and 18 championships (he now has won 22, the last four with Giñebra where he moved in 2015).
Yes, Alvin Patrimonio, now the team’s manager, and Jerry Codiñera, the only two players at that point to have had their numbers retired by the franchise, can really be proud of this San Mig team that took after them and the great tradition they established with similar worth and talent as well as commensurate honor.  And so can previous players who have worn the PureFoods, Coney Island, B-Meg and San Mig jersey like Rey Evangelista (whose No. 7 has also been retired), Dindo Pumaren, Glenn Capacio, Al Solis, Elmer Cabahug, the late Edgar Tanuan, Kerby Raymundo, Ronnie Magsanoc, Noy Castillo, Jun Limpot, Roger Yap, Jojo Lastimosa, J.B. Yango, Willie Generalao, Nelson Asaytono, Bong Ravena and Boyet Fernandez.
But a lot more people can similarly be proud of this bunch of players who had proven worthy of the Purefoods brand of talented, skillful, determined and gutsy play, people who were responsible for establishing and leading the team itself during its early days and into its evolution as a grand-slam champion.  These are Ayala Corporation Chairman emeritus Don Jaime Zobel de Ayala, whom one can still imagine jumping from his box seat with arms raised to cheer his team that was then under the Ayala Group, the late Ely Capacio who steered the team to a title in the early ‘90s and would have been immensely pleased despite a different role before his demise in the San Miguel conglomerate, Baby Dalupan who gave PureFoods its first title in 1990, former team manager and still big San Mig diehard Monchito Mossesgeld, former coaches Chot Reyes, Eric Altamirano, Chito Narvasa, Derrick Pumaren, Ronnie Magsanoc and Ryan Gregorio, and, of course, current management leaders Butch Alejo, Rene Pardo and San Miguel big boss Ramon Ang.
San Mig’s singular accomplishment, to be sure, was a product of a lot of people’s effort, but make no mistake about it.  It came to pass as part of the team’s destiny mainly because Cone then, along with his assistants at that point, Johnny Abarrientos, Richard del Rosario, Mon Jose, Jason Webb and those who came before them who had moved on, Jeffrey Cariaso and Olsen Racela, fully invested themselves into that mission along with the entire Mixers ballclub, starters and reserves alike.
It's really uncanny, but for one’s destiny to come to pass, he has to fully invest himself to bring the circumstances to make it happen, and that’s what the Mixers, from the first man to the last, precisely did.

Twins Show Grit In Victory Over Royals!
Twins 8 Royals 5 W-Santana (15-7) L-Kennedy (4-11) SV-Belisle (7)
The Minnesota Twins were not looking to hot after Tuesday’s loss. They were (1-4) in the month of September at that point and it looked again as if they were out of the race. Minnesota has completely turned it around with two wins and looked for a third straight win tonight in Kansas City. Brian Dozier got the game started on a good note tonight. He led-off with a single then stole second base. Jorge Polanco walked and later in the inning, Eddie Rosario hit a sacrifice fly to left. Brian Dozier scored on the play and the Twins led 1-0. Whit Merrifield did his best Brian Dozier impression with a single and a stole base in the bottom of the first. He went to third on a groundout and scored on a Melky Cabrera sac fly. This tied the game at one after one. The Twins got back to work in the second inning against Ian Kennedy. Eduardo Escobar singled then Robbie Grossman walked. Brian Dozier lined a run-scoring single to right and the Twins had the lead back. Eddie Rosario added a run in the third with a blast off an Ian Kennedy fastball. The ball left the yard and the Twins led 3-1 after three. Trevor Cahill came on for the Royals in the fourth and did not too much better than Kennedy. Robbie Grossman doubled then Joe Mauer and Jorge Polanco walked. Eddie Rosario plated a pair with a single to center and Minnesota had a four-run edge. Eric Hosmer inched the Royals closer in the fourth. He belted an Ervin Santana fastball out to right. It was Hosmer’s fifth homer off Ervin and the Royals were within three. Eduardo Escobar got that run back in the fifth with a blast off Trevor Cahill. Minnesota regained a four-run lead, but Kansas City had a comeback left in them. Alcides Escobar and Alex Gordon doubled to start the fifth, but nobody scored. Whit Merrifield drove in two with a double to center and KC was within two. Byron Buxton made a great catch on a drive from Melky Cabrera to end the threat and keep the Twins lead at two. In the seventh, Ramon Torres inched the Royals closer with an RBI single to center. The Twins were up one and got back to work in the eighth. Eduardo Escobar doubled off Kelvin Herrera. Jason Castro bunted him over and Robbie Grossman tripled. Joe Mauer doubled Grossman home and the Twins led 8-5. The Twins bullpen did the rest as Trevor Hildenberger threw two scoreless frames and Matt Belisle had a 1-2-3 ninth for the save. It was the third consecutive win for the Twins after a rough patch to start the month.
-Final Thoughts- Ervin Santana struggled with commanding his slider tonight. He lasted five innings and allowed four runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Tyler Duffey gave up a run in an inning, Taylor Rogers did not retire any of the two men he faced, and Trevor Hildenberger had two big scoreless innings. Matt Belisle struck out two in a perfect ninth. Eduardo Escobar led the team with three hits and three runs scored on the night. Brian Dozier, Eddie Rosario, and Robbie Grossman each had two hits. The team hit 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Tomorrow, two young right-handers go at it. Jose Berrios will face Jake Junis in Game 3 of this series from Kauffman Stadium.
