OKAY SO . "Galahad (played by Jonny d'Ville): a travelling preacher/religious zealot who is told to sit in the Siege Seat by Merlin, and discovers the fact that Fort Galfridian is falling into the star Avalon. He sparks the quest for the GRAIL, and willingly goes to his death to overcome its final defences." DUDE SAT IN THE CHAIR THAT IS KNOWN FOR KILLING PEOPLE BECAUSE HIS CRUSH [MERLIN] [AKA HANGED MAN] [AKA DRUMBOT BRIAN] TOLD HIM TO . SORRY I THINK THATS REALLY FUNNY. he found out the whole shitshow of a spacestation he lived on was gonna fall into the sun and he went around yelling about it incomprehensibly and got fucking gunned down trying to get the GRAIL and just kept going through the gunfire because of how Religious [tm] he was . he died . in once and future king it just "galahad's blind faith" . also hellfire goes really hard . he is the definition of going insane with the knowledge of the universe . also jonny dville played him thats bonus points
There was a prophet. The prophet gave three separate people three separate instructions. 1. Stop being racist 2. Love your son 3. Sit in the Chair That Makes People Insane Galahad received number three. He was the only one who followed the instructions. He sat in the Chair That Makes People Insane, saw the sun for the first time, and immediately starts preaching about how everyone will burn in hellfire

Ok i know this is kind of a shot in the dark because hes so obscure but i need to speak my truth. Hes so insane. The narrator calls him a “holy roller.” He has a vision which is meant to tell him that the place they live is LITERALLY going to get burnt to a crisp because its slowly falling into the sun. But hes like Oh my god i just had a vision of hell i need to save everyone from eternal damnation. And he happily gets killed and turned into a pile of slop because he believes its what he was “chosen to do” he quite literally dies for his religion. Hes also quite funny. I like him. Thank you

The Venture Bros.
Tumblr media
The Venture Bros. comments on many assumptions from the Golden and Silver Age of comics. It parodies certain elements of comic book history, including ‘the boy adventurer’ (Jonny Quest) trope and space-age fiction themes and aesthetics. The series follows Dr. Thaddeus “Rusty” Venture, a sad failure of a Super Scientist living in the shadow of his late larger-than-life father, Dr. Jonas Venture. Rusty is a superhero in title but not in practice, yet he still has a rotating cast of villains and sidekicks around him. His arch nemesis is a villain called The Monarch, who I focus on for this piece. I think Rusty represents the more cynical, morally ambiguous Silver age of comics while his father represents the authoritarian Golden age, to put it into Williams’ framework from “(R)Evolution of the Television Superhero”. The Venture Bros contributes to a misanthropic view of superhero narratives. All of the characters have major flaws directly connected to their association with Super Heroism and its flipside, Super Villainy. Changes in values over time are shown in the narrative through flashbacks and convoluted storylines involving many characters over several seasons. Overall, though, the series pokes fun and levies criticism against prevalent superhero notions.
The Monarch, Dr. Venture’s Arch Nemesis, is a scrawny, goateed, middle-aged white male who has made a career out of being evil. In some ways, he is very successful, with an awesome spaceship headquarters, a team of devoted henchmen, and a sexy villainess girlfriend. However, the Monarch is shown to oscillate between overconfident and insecure, as seeking validation, and as unable to thwart his self-proclaimed nemesis, no matter how many opportunities he gets.
Tumblr media
The Monarch represents an attitude of dissatisfaction among men who actually have quite a bit going for them. I feel like this reflects a culture of misplaced victimhood held by some men as the liberation of women and other oppressed groups makes them feel like they are losing some kind of power or status.
The Venture Bros. is all about funny costumes and character design. The Monarch has leaned all the way into his butterfly-and-insect-themed villainy. His costume is an integral part of his character, and he is rarely seen without it.
His voice and mannerisms are enough to make the Monarch recognizable even when he is not in costume, but he derives much of his power from his outfit, the consistent theme of his evil operation, and his flashy technology. The Monarch has a hard time performing villainy when not in costume. In this universe, Villany is a career, and the job requires a uniform.
The show is definitely influenced by 9/11 and the entrance of Gen Xers into the media scene. The show debuted in 2003, when the Cold War Kids (not the band) were finally entering the workforce and the public eye and expressing their feelings and attitudes about social and political realities of the time. The Monarch is an expression of social, economic and political disillusionment that can go in divergent directions and lead to extremism. Venture represents apathy and adherence to established systems, despite their idiocy.
In Season 1 Episode 11, the viewer gets a glimpse into the normal and domestic side of super people when they meet members of The Guild of Calamitous Intent when Venture hosts a yard sale at his compound. He invites all the Villains he works against and among, with the understanding that no harm can come to him because it is not guild-approved and therefore the villains have no legs to stand on in terms of evil.
Even so, the Monarch, Dr. Venture’s sworn enemy, wreaks non-approved havok at the yard sale, causing a brawl in search of a suitable bathroom. Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend sneak into the compound and see the sad emptiness of Dr. Venture’s life. For a moment it seems the Monarch has a realization about his Villainy and almost gives up “Arching” Dr. Venture, but when the security team gives him a fright, the Monarch vows to destroy Dr. Venture and reconstitutes the Nemesis status.
I think this faltering of ideology that the Monarch experiences shows how perceived obligations are subject to change situationally. This applies to foreign relations because attitudes about domestic policy, domestic views on other countries, and also relationships between nations and states are products of history but also are fluid.

Rules: Go to your published works on AO3 and list the first fic you ever published there, the last fic you published, any fic that you wrote for a fandom/ship only once, your favorite fic you wrote in the fandom/ship that has the most works, the fic you wish more people read, the fic you agonized over the most, the fic that sprang fully formed from your mind without any effort, and a work you are proud of—for whatever reason.
First fic published on Ao3: I'm not actually sure. I have a bunch of fics I crossposted from ffn and a few backdated ones I only recently decided to share. Tho it started on an anime forum in 2007, I'm pretty sure I finished Cinnamon and Mistletoe on AO3 after xposting from ffn. It's a Inuyasha x Yuyu Hakusho xover, Kagome/Kurama fluff about them being childhood friends separated by the stuff going on in their respective parents' lives, and now reuniting because their mothers are having a class reunion and everyone's bringing their kids along.
Last fic published: Splash of Red, a Kingmaker Histories drabble character study of one of the secondary characters.
Fandom/ship I only wrote once: There's currently 25 fandoms I've only written one fic for and I'm not going to count the ships. But one I'm particularly fond of is Picking up the pieces - post-canon fic for season 1 of Mirror Mirror, about Jo's mum having to deal with Nick being stuck in the present in the mundane ways that magic time traveling mirrors do not care about. (It's very short and doesn't go into much detail)
Favorite fic in most popular fandom/ship: The one with the disembodied penis - Supernatural crack fic crossed with 19th century Romanian literature. Team Free Will finds a semi-sentient, disembodied dick in a cursebox in the Men of Letter's bunker. Gabriel is somehow responsible for its existence. My most prolific fandom:
Fic I wish more people read: Stolen - pre-canon The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest fic about Arnaud, the vampire hunter, and his history with the vampire he's hunting. I think it mostly works without knowing the canon.
Fic I agonized over: Tales of Atlantis aka the SGA fic that never ends. We're two stories from the end of the series. I started writing this with a friend in 2010. A lot has happened in 13 years, but we will eventually finish that beast. It started as a forum RP and it grew out of control.
Fic that popped out fully-formed: Frozen - RQG fic I wrote on my way home from work after ep 174. Zoscar hurt/comfort, bc I really needed Wilde to be fine
Fic I'm proud of: In your hands, my first Kane and Feels fic, about Kane binding himself to Hana so he could safely fight off an entity that attacked his partner's subconscious.
Tagging @theothersarshi, @thriceandonce, @flammenkobold, @kristsune with no pressure and anyone who feels like doing it.

Do you ever find yourself desperately, quietly, longingly wondering what happened to Jonny Quest, Jessie Bannon, Hadji Singh, Benton Quest, and Race Bannon after The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest was mercilessly canceled back in like, 1997?
Just me? Hopefully not, lol. I was about to share my 14th chapter when I realized I never actually shared any of the previous ones here. So, without any more of this silly ado, here's Chapter 1 of Phantoms, a post-canon, JJHR, supernatural romance drama thing.
Phantoms, a Real Adventures of Jonny Quest Fanfic, Chapter 1:
Fandom: The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Jonny Quest/Jessie Bannon
Summary: Set in 2015, Phantoms shows us the Quest team, 17 years after the Maine compound was destroyed in The Robot Spies. While much has changed, some things will always stay the same - for better or for worse. After being spread out around the world for years, they're finally back together for a haunting adventure.
But which ghosts are more dangerous? The ones they're facing? Or the ones in their pasts?

I’m trying to give more minis and limited runs a try this year, what are some that you count as must-reads? 💖💖💖
hiiiiiiiiiii <333
you've come to the right place, THE HOME OF THE OBSCURE MINISERIES. okay, let's do this!
set in the dcu/vertigo
martian manhunter: american secrets (1992) - three issue miniseries exploring j'onn's early years on earth and his status as a literal alien relating to 50s/60s counterculture, the ufo craze and various conspiracy theories of the era. good art, great writing -- it's opening paragraph and sometimes-tagline ("strangers to each other, we were both greater strangers to the hordes of new york. he was a beatnik. i was a martian.") plays in my mind every so often and tells you a great deal about the tone we're playing with here!
arkham city: the order of the world (2021) - six issue miniseries. you'll rarely see a modern recommendation from me, let alone a batman-related one, but i feel like this little book sort of slipped through the cracks when it came out and it's more than worth reading for the sublime art alone. horror miniseries following one doctor's attempts at rounding up some of arkham's less conventional escapees.
mystik u (2017) - three issue miniseries. while not strictly set in the actual canon dc universe, it's an uproariously fun book about a young zatanna's days at a school for magic users and it's got some great great characterisation for the likes of, say, mister e & the trenchcoat brigade that we haven't seen in decades and decades. which speaking of,
mister e (1991) - four issue miniseries. this is one i rec pretty often on here but if anything fits the actual definition of a must-read for me, then it's this mister e solo book. ostensibly a sequel to the books of magic (1990), which is another go-to recommendation, this is a little horror tale of abuse and trauma and deeply repressed sexuality among a surreal attempt to take charge of one's own destiny. tw for child abuse (i can be more specific in a dm!)
hawkworld (1989) - three issue miniseries. this is the post-crisis origin of the thanagarian hawks, with a specific focus on katar hol's evolution from policeman to vigilante and all the ideals betrayed in-between.
vigilante: city lights, prairie justice (1995) - four issue miniseries. another sincere & legitimate must read! this is classic james robinson, blending westerns with noir and the golden age of comics, and it follows greg saunder's short-lived hollywood years and the insane revenge quest that consumes him. one of the very best books i've ever read, with astounding art too!
challengers of the unknown (1991) - eight issue miniseries. who doesn't love washed up heroes living off their own merchandise and fame until tragedy forces them back into the people they've forgotten how to be? a compelling look at some of the few heroes that have been allowed to age not to gracefully, and then their quest to find themselves again. tim sale's art is hit or miss for me but this is a definite hit!
superman/doomsday: hunter/prey (1994) - three issue miniseries set immediately after clark's return to life, featuring doomsday's unexpectedly tragic origin. i'm rarely a superman fan but i adored this one and in fact own the trade.
jonni thunder (1985) - four issue miniseries. a female private investigator with all the trappings of the archetypical noir detective and johnny thunder's powers. there's really not much else i can say!
sugar & spike: metahuman investigations (2016) - originally appearing in the backups of legends of tomorrow (2016) #1-6, this keith giffen/bilquis evely humor book sees grown up versions of sheldon mayer's world-famous sugar & spike dealing with all the unpleasant, better-forgotten, just plain weird embarrassments of the world's most famous heroes. their first case is finding batman's rainbow batsuits before their existence is leaked to the general public!
adam strange (1990) - three issue miniseries. legitimately an all time favourite book based on the kubert brothers' art alone, we follow adam strange's last night on earth before he's set to move to rann permanently and all the regrets that come with it. the definitive adam strange portrayal, and a magnificently written one at that!
standalone
nathaniel dusk (1985)/nathaniel dusk ii (1986) - four issue miniseries. if this isn't a must-read then i don't know what is! i mentioned this one in my 'comix of the year' round-up so i'll just go ahead and copy paste what i said there: "the quintessential film noir, in comic book form. gene colan's art makes the miniseries but dusk is a truly unique outing no matter how you look at it, and its status as ostensibly set in the real post-wwi world makes it all that more fascinating. nathaniel dusk is a hardboiled detective whose career is marred by too-personal tragedy, the book's custom made for anybody who's as big on character studies and character-driven pieces as i am".
cinder & ashe (1988) - four issue miniseries. again from my round-up: "at its heart, this is a story about the vietnam war but also a harrowing mystery thriller set in new orleans and an exploration of racism, the military industrial complex, and two lives consumed by grief." there's not much i can say that won't spoil it but trust me, there's a reason it's one of my favourite books!
wild dog (1987) - four issue miniseries. the book follows mysterious vigilante wild dog, who takes to the streets with a baseball bat and single-minded determination in an attempt to put an end to the crime wave that had cost him the life of his girlfriend. it's a fun, action-packed miniseries that keeps you guessing the whole time and doesn't reveal wild dog's identity until the very last issue!
jonny double (1998) - four issue miniseries. down on his luck private investigator is hired to plan out the perfect heist, and it only gets better from there! a solidly fun, sincerely fantastic book with some great art from eduardo risso and extremely clever writing. some gaycoding thrown in for flavour, too.
slash maraud (1987) - six issue miniseries. a sci-fi/dystopian story, we follow slash maraud and a gang of lesbian bikers as they try to avert the incoming apocalypse on an a lawless earth where humanity's only got five years left to live. exactly as fun as it sounds!
tempus fugitive (1990) - four issue miniseries. a freedom fighter from the far future travels across time in an attempt to change his present. a recent read but a thoroughly enjoyable one.
there's a lot i'm missing, and i mean a whole lot, so i suggest taking a look at my completed series list and seeing if anything jumps out (for example, you've simply got to read wrath of the spectre!) but this is what came to mind just now! hope it helps a little bit!

Sister Michael
She drives a DeLorean. She does judo on Fridays. She likes a good statue and despises the French. Her full nun name is Sister George Michael, after the guy from Wham!. She is the fiercest nun you’ll ever come across and, if you’re attending Lady Immaculate College, she’s the woman in charge. So whatever you do, if you’re feeling anxious or worried or just need a chat: don’t come crying to her.
joined the nunnery for the free accommodation?
she does love a good statue it has to be said
She is the headmistress of a catholic school <3
