Le Maddalene, Militello Rosmarino (Sicily), 2021

Her project ‘Gli Isolani’ (The Islanders) was nominated for the Prix Elysée 2021 and is a visual record of culture, faith, and ritual, in 3 island regions of Italy.

She Begun her journey exploring the islands of the Venetian lagoon, mostly abandoned once military bases, psychiatric hospitals, and monasteries...

Travelling to the South she documented old rituals in Sicily and Sardinia. Particularly during Holy Week thousands take to the streets, from big cities to tiny, hilltop villages, where week-long, costumed celebrations unroll.
