It’s time again y’all, time for a soon to come new Jönssonligan movie!

Here’s an English translation for all you curious Non-Swedish fans out there:

The new Jönssonligan will premiere in theaters next year!

One year to go, folks! Until we get to know the new Jönssonligan on the big screen. Sweden's most beloved criminal gang is making a comeback with a new comedy and new (albeit familiar) stars in the iconic roles.

In the newly released picture, we see for the first time how Robert Gustafsson will look like Charles-Ingvar "Sickan" Jönsson.

With him is Anders Jansson as Dynamite-Harry, Jonas Karlsson as Vanheden and Jennie Silfverhjelm as Doris. The league's plan? Stealing a T-Rex skeleton from the Museum of Natural History and selling it to businessman Wall Enberg for 320 million kronor!

- It has been fantastic fun to see the league come to life in the guise of these gifted actors, say the film's producers in a press release.

"Jönssonligan" premieres in cinemas in December 2024 and you can see the first teaser trailer in cinemas already this Christmas.

"Everyone in our family is pretty private of us"

Valter Skarsgård, 26, has made his debut as Martin Beck's grandson in the 43rd film - "A new life".

Now he talks about the filming, the physical transformation before the Börje Salming film and why he does not want to talk about his family.

- Everyone in our family is quite private of us, says Valter Skarsgård.

On Christmas Day, Martin Beck was back in "A New Life" - and he has a brand new actor by his side. Namely Valter Skarsgård, 26, who plays his grandson.

- I prepared myself by watching all 42 films in a row, the same autumn as I filmed the Zebra Room, 2020. When I had come halfway, I thought that it might be a bit too much to take on, but then it was "too late", says Valter Skarsgård and laughs.

The film is the 43rd in a row with Peter Haber in the role of Martin Beck. The other cast also includes Jennie Silfverhjelm, Martin Wallström, Kristofer Hivju, Måns Nathanaelson, Anna Asp, Elmira Arikan and Jonas Karlsson.

Skarsgård about the role: "Will big shoes to fill"

Martin Beck's grandson Vilhelm Beck has previously appeared in the film series, played by several different actors. But it is only now that the character gets more space.

- It will be exciting to see how Vilhelm fits in and is received by the audience. It's always a little scary when you do something new and especially now when it's big shoes to fill. At the same time, I would never have said yes if I thought I would not accept it, says Valter Skarsgård.

"I feel very humble"

He says that above all a scene became extra tough to record.

- It was a pretty physically demanding scene already the first days of the recording, but I mostly think it's fun.

Valter Skarsgård got along well with the other actors, not least Martin Wallström who he knows from before and Peter Haber. But the most fun was to see a special person.

- Ingvar Hirdwall, just being with him was great. Seeing the neighbor in his essay. Everyone is very nice and Peter and I get along very well. He's chopped and cool.

Valter Skarsgård is the youngest in the large group of acting Skarsgård brothers and several of them have beaten internationally. Is that where Valter Skarsgård also wants?

- I do not see it as: "I'm going to Hollywood", but absolutely I think it's fun to act in English, I like it and think that Swedish can be difficult in dialogue. English feels more natural. How I work, I may find it more difficult sometimes. No matter what, I just want to do the best project I can and make a living from it. Whether it means being in "Star Wars" or working in Trollhättan, does not matter - I just want to have fun.

How do you feel about getting questions about the family?

- I think that questions about my family mean that the focus can go awry. If I put pressure on "Beck" and the questions are about Alex, it will be strange. They do their thing and I do my thing. Then it's fun that they are so successful and I wish them all the best, it has nothing to do with our relationship, but for me it is not interesting to talk about. Everyone in our family is pretty private of us.

Plays hockey legend Börje Salming

Valter Skarsgård is currently preparing for next year's shooting of the film about hockey legend Börje Salming. There he plays the main role which requires great preparation, not least physically.

- I got the role already three years ago and have trained for a long time. It will be up to eight times a week both with private coaches in hockey and at the gym. Then I eat lunch boxes every day and soon it's time for the def.

“A simple trip to Mars will become the journey of a lifetime.”

Within 11 minutes of the start of Aniara (titled after the state of the art, gigantic space vehicle of the same name that promises a journey from Earth’s orbit to Mars in three weeks) seemingly small events set the ship off its planned course and onto an uncertain future. Presented in timed increments, this sci-fi existential horror film is a study of human nature in chaos.

Aniara is a ship that has been developed with a focus on passenger comfort for the scheduled “long duration” three-week trip – 21 restaurants, an algae farm that keeps the air fresh, high end shopping, customer service focused staff. Even MIMA technology, a fully immersive simulation of a healthy earth that is passenger-specific, based on their personal memory banks, to help the few on the journey who feel homesick for earth or experience other stress from flight or trauma.

It’s easy to compare Aniara to the Titanic, but with a difference in the initial goal. Right from the start, it is apparent that this is less of a leisure transport and more of an evacuation from an abused and broken Earth. Many passengers also appear to be broken – psychologically and physically – from their experiences on the failing planet.

The lead character, MR (played by Emelie Jonsson) is the Mimaroben who is responsible for MIMA. She is bright, with a calm, self-aware optimism, like a present-day yogi. She appears to be ever happy in her job and role to help ease the transition for passengers on the space flight. She is also open to human connection and is at once attracted to the serious, flight crew member, Isagel (played by Bianca Cruzeiro).

This is the positive, romantic sub-storyline that would likely not have developed had the voyage gone as planned. MR and Isagel are opposites in their demeanor – MR wears her emotions on her sleeve while flight crew must repress emotion, the weight of so many passenger lives are resting on their discipline. But given the turn of events, we are allowed this one silver lining sub plot of happiness for our lead women… well, for a brief glimmer of time.

As it becomes more apparent that life on Aniara is becoming more long term, MIMA plays a more central, busy role in the passenger and crew lives. Some people escape into the simulation for longer portions of their day as their sole source of sanity, and the passengers develop a cult-like obsession with MIMA as a higher power.

The supply chain nerd in me loved the attention to detail as discussion turned to resources needed to run Aniara beyond the three-week anticipated journey. The pessimist in me loved the omniscient bleakness of the ship’s astronomer and MR’s cabinmate (played by Anneli Martini) when she verbalizes what she knows to be true, that the ship’s charismatic Captain Chefone (played by Arvin Kananian) is withholding the truth of their dire situation.

Aniara is a film with messages. Love giving purpose and meaning to life, the need to take care of the Earth that we have, human nature’s need for hope and what happens when hope is gone.

Aniara is a film that I can never unsee and, like my feelings towards AI after viewing Ex Machina, may become a cautionary tale towards my view of long-term space flight. Aniara is not for the faint of heart but is worth the watch if looking for a more cerebral fright fest.
