the way that walt and jesse treat the money they make from the meth empire is genuinely so fascinating. walt hoards it in every sense of the word: it's almost like he physically needs to have it nearby. he packs the walls with it, stores it in the crawlspace, rents out a storage unit that contains nothing but his massive cube of cash. the only time he guiltily tries to get rid of his money by burning it, he almost immediately puts the flame out as if he's feeling the heat himself. money is a visual manifestation of walt's success and domination, and he needs to see it, indulge in it, have it near to remind himself of his own excellence. meanwhile, jesse tries over and over to give his own money away. it eventually becomes worthless to him personally: he tosses it to others like its just monopoly money, seeing it only as a manifestation of his own wrongdoings. he literally just throws cash to the strangers partying at his house and out of the window of his car for strangers to find. he practically begs to give his money to drew sharpe's parents, kaylee, brock. he can't stand to have it near him. jesse just wants it gone. walt sees money as a sign of everything he's gained; jesse sees money as a sign of everything he's lost.
Yeah okay obviously the stupid hat didn’t actually make Walter more evil but I do believe with my whole heart that we should have gotten one entire B plot of Jesse trying to get rid of the stupid hat but by a string of increasingly convoluted extenuating circumstances being unable to do so
Ah yes my favorite trope: a doomed depressed man with baggy clothes and dark under eyes crosses paths with another man who he develops complicated feelings for and ends up bloody on the ground
If I had a nickel for every time MacCready was physically compared to Jesse Pinkman, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
If there were to be a parody, who'd be Walter?
The Sole who can make and sell drugs, and just randomly hires someone to help them?
Or Hancock, the one who not only has an association with drugs, but is also bald and has a bad relationship with his family?
Someone else?
Seeing people decide to watch Breaking Bad based on the Tumblr memes is especially funny when they do it specifically for the memes about Jesse, because... well, let's put it this way. Aaron Paul, the guy who played Jesse, was nominated for a Primetime Emmy award for best supporting actor in a drama series for his work on Breaking Bad on five separate occasions, including twice in one season, and won three of those nominations. He was the first person ever to win that award three times for the same role. Like, Jesse's storyline is so viscerally unpleasant that it set industry records.
only thing i know for certain is that if "breaking bad" took place during modern times, jesse would've used his cash to buy a drone and there would've been a sick ass sequence filmed from drone perspective and one episode cold open would've been all scary and sinister and it would end with an ominous shot of the drone laying all crushed and fucked up on the floor to imply harm done to jesse. and it would be really sad
