I have many ideas about this. Like I have to put this under a readmore because I have to scroll to get to the bottom types of thoughts

Hal Jordan does not like chili. He especially does not like the new guy Green Arrow’s chili that he brought to the JL potluck. He doesn’t know what Arrow guy put in it, but he saw the face that Superman made after eating it. He’s seen Superman eat alien food that tastes like garbage before, if Superman doesn’t like it, no one does. He tries it and he almost throws up with how hot it is. He doesn’t like chili. He will stick with his crackers and baked ham, thank you very much.

Hal Jordan doesn’t like chili, but he might make an exception for Ollie’s. They’re in the middle of nowhere, just the two of them. The guardian had left a week ago and Dinah had gone ahead to the next town. It was just the two of them and Ollie’s chili starter in the truck. They warm the chili over a fire. Hal gets it down, washing it down with a piece of fancy bread (well at least the type that isn’t just processed white bread, more of a round loaf from a small grocery store in the last town). Hal thinks he likes it this time. He doesn’t know what is different (yes he does, and its him and its Ollie). To see Ollie smile and laugh when he says he loves it, he thinks he’ll eat it a thousand times, just to see that sight again.

Hal Jordan hates the mere sight of chili. Oliver Queen is dead and gone. He should have been there for him, he should have been there. He can’t stand the reminder of times and places and memories long past. He would remake the world for Ollie. He can’t stand the smell, the sight, of something once so precious to him.

Hal Jordan treasures the taste of chili. He doesn’t like it, he never will, but it means Ollie is alive, that Ollie is here with him. He ruined all his bridges a long time ago, but they’re being rebuilt now (he ignores what he had to do, the lines he crossed to make that rebuilding happen, they can never know the truth). He puts some chili in a bowl, right next to his plate with a hot dog and crackers, and he smiles. Happiness, he thinks, is stored in things like this. He cannot think of a better place to be.

Okay, yeah there are Hal’s very complicated thoughts on chili. My thoughts are my boy cannot stand spicy things, he is a generic white American in that. Otherwise, because he’s supposed to be such a man’s man, he doesn’t like traditional manly things but tries to act like he does. He doesn’t like a ton of red meat, he doesn’t like burgers and steak and stuff. As he grows more comfortable with himself, he stops forcing himself to eat those types of food. I feel like he would be a white meat for chicken and turkey type guy and he loves baked hams (especially if there’s mashed potatoes and corn). He believes saltine crackers are the best part of chili because they are. I also feel like there’s some weird alien food he loves, but otherwise he’s pretty safe in his food choices. The Salstella’s Jolly Roger 🏴‍☠️

The pirates that sail the Isles of Aberon take great pride in rebelling against the state, often hoisting a Jolly Roger that’s unique to each captain.

Captain ‘Mad’ Morcant, took the nickname “Sea Wolf” quite literally, and designed a wolf’s skull eating the sun - mocking her monarch, Lady Ardonius, also known as “The Sunlit Lady”.

After Morticia Morcant is exiled and a bounty is placed on her head, she makes a point of rebelling against the state of Vivocia and Hecethir, making a name for herself as one of the most notorious captains to ever prowl the sea. She often hoists a red flag to signal no quarter preceding each attack, instilling fear in any man who spies it in the distance. Her ship, aptly named The Salstella (Salt Star) is a stolen frigate from Vivocian’s Fleet, known as a ‘Hound of War’.

The Hounds of War are notorious for being speedy, topping at roughly 12-14 knots. Laden with 40 guns and an expert crew, The Salstella is famous across The Promenades, with many a man trying to impress Morcant in the hopes of getting hired.

Helena Bertinelli

First impression: I remember not having strong opinions one way or another XD I first saw her in JLU (the DCAU tv show) and she hung out with question who I found boring, then I saw her in comics like NML and Nightwing or BoP and I knew what her schtick was in those comics but didn't have strong opinions.

Impression now: Beloved blorbo in law... anyway I think she is very complicated and rotatable and she just has so many quotes taht sound super dramatic I love her. She's very self destructive but that works for her :P

Favorite moment: The "my life is means to an end" bluff (?) with the nuclear bomb plotline

I see my life differently... than you do yours. your life... is an end in itself. a pleasure cruise. a joy ride. my life is different. my life is a means to an end.

Idea for a story: Well I'm really curious about your James and Helena NML stories hmmm for my own i would say sort of building off other people's story ideas already (one being your james and helena one, the other being mollyhats steph lives wargames AU where helena fnids her) -- helena infiltrating the organized crime families in gotham with savant and creote, but she is also juggling trying to protect steph and give her time to heal and figure out if she is doing the right thing and re-connect with james who is like. huh. OK.

Unpopular opinion: Not unpopular among you but unpopular in general... I like the Huntress 1989 set up /backstory better than Cry for Blood.

Favorite relationship: Helena and Dinah! I love their mutual respect and banter and helena giving dinah a new perspective (some of it like Dinah sees another, worse side of babs some of it like "Oh so that's what babs has to deal with" XD when helena makes a call that dinah finds reckless).

Favorite headcanon: my headcanon that helena decided she wanted to be a teacher after browsing the parenting books in a used bookstore and they're right next to pedagogy books and she gets pulled in.

I know you've heard this one before so I shall go in depth (And unify the Helena as ELA teacher with Helena giving James the book in the JLI comic and she's like "I don't know I didn't read it but it's one of those that you're supposed to") - I think that since James isn't as gifted in non-STEM-y stuff (like he's a regular smart kid rather than supergenius capable of building nuclear bombs :P) I think that he struggles or feels stupid sometimes when doing the reading for his classes so Helena reads the books with him to try to encourage him and she winds up like "hmm so maybe these books they make you read in school aren't a waste of time anyway" and gains a secondary appreciation via helping james and thats why she decides to go into ELA

First impression

Well actually you sent it to me earlier today. I thought I liked him in theory but I never read any of his (at first). I actually got into him when I was trying to get into Ollie

Impression now

My little scrunkle, my littlest meow meow, I will apologize for all his actions while also making sure that there aren't stupid recons where its not his fault. He's just my favorite and managed to overise Dick which is an accomplishment

Favorite moment

Green Lantern #48-#50, its just they're the most iconic GL issues for a reason. After that I really like Spectre (2001) #1, the no excuses line gives me chills

Idea for a story

I think about this frequently actually, and I would love like a small miniseries focused on him realizing there is something wrong in the universe, and then he figures out its him, he rewrote the past, he added the Parallax recon himself (so making it like a literal in universe change of history), he made the same excuse for himself that he got angry at others for, and then just seeing the melt down that that involves and Ollie and Carol's reactions.

Unpopular opinion

He should not have been Green Lantern again after Parallax and attempts to make him Green Lantern again ruined the story.

Favorite relationship

Halollie, like how can it not be. It's about knowing someone so well that you know them atom by atom

Favorite headcanon

His hands run cold, but normal human cold as Green Lantern. As Parallax, his hands run hot and feel like fire. As Spectre, his hands feel as cold as ice, and they never return to normal afterwards, reminding him always that he died.
