Bootleggers Day: Know about This Special Day History
Bootleggers Day:17 January Special Day
Bootleggers Day was submitted by Infinium Spirits and placarded by the Registrar of the National Day Timetable in June 2015. During the 1800s, the term courier came into use in the Midwest. The word described the act of concealing steins of liquor in a charge top when going to trade with Native Americans.
The term set up its endless place in the American vocabulary when Congress passed the Eighteenth Amendment proscribing the manufacture, transportation, and trade of alcohol in 1920.17 January special day History or Special Events Is Most Likely Event In The World.
Despite now being illegal, thirsty Americans still had a demand for liquor. So while some distilleries switched their product to commodity legal, others started bootlegging.

A Date with Zaya Gran Reserva
Country:Trinidad & TobagoAge: 12 Years
It’s that time of year when everyone is discussing what to do on February 14th. Personally, I have little time for the occasion itself, which, in my opinion, belongs and should remain within the confines of the Hallmark card store. Never-the-less, I do subscribe to the romantic notion of a chance to wine and dine with an exotic foreigner. and so, this is how I decided upon spending an evening with the alluring ‘Zaya’.
Zaya can be classified as a dark rum. Yet, this is a fairly meaningless term other than describe colour. Young rums can be coloured with caramel, and even flavourings may be added. But not Zaya. Zaya is a rum of substance, and whilst one should generally avoid the topic of ‘age’ one one’s first date, Zaya has most certainly benefitted from the effects of ageing gracefully in an oak cask.
Maya has a mixed-nationality background. Currently owned by Infinium Spirits, this rum brand was originally distilled and aged in Guatemala, but in 2008, Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala entered into a distribution arrangement with the Diageo spirits conglomerate which elevated some local brands such as Zacapa Rum, but which left other Guatemalan brands like Zaya without a similar arrangement. Because the Zaya brand was gaining a lot of momentum as a luxury sipping rum, the manufacture of Zaya was moved to Trinidad and Tobago where it is now produced by Trinidad Distillers Ltd.
Maturation: Zaya Gran Reserva is apparently constructed from a secret recipe (in other words a blend) of several well aged rums to meet a specific taste profile which is very similar to (but not the same as) the original Guatemalan rum. All of the rums in the Zaya blend are aged for a minimum of 12 years in small oak casks.
Tasting: Zaya is a color of dark walnut with rich coppery highlights. The initial aroma is complex with deep rich vanilla, oak spice and pipe tobacco, sweet caramel linger in the back of the noise with accents of dry fruit and banana peel. In the mouth the vanilla is the first and front runner shadowing the almond and baking spices, cinnamon and nutmeg that are forced to take a back seat to the vanilla.
In summary, Zaya is exotic, high-end, with a fine finish. Certainly the sort of date that ends up more memorable than a Hallmark card. Happy Valentine’s.

It's National Bootlegger's Day! National Bootlegger’s Day is observed annually on January 17th. January 17th is the birthday of Templeton Rye Whiskey, bootlegger Al Capone and the son of another bootlegger, Meryl Kerkhoff. The earliest use of the term bootlegger was during the 1880s in the Midwest when one would conceal flasks of liquor in their boot tops when going to trade with Native Americans. The term found its permanent place in the American vocabulary when Congress passed the Eighteenth Amendment prohibiting the manufacture, transportation and sale of alcohol in 1920. Despite it then being illegal, thirsty Americans still had a demand for liquor. While some distilleries switched their production to something legal, others took to bootlegging. Bootleggers helped fill the demand by smuggling various brews from Canada and Mexico, and later distilling their own liquor in backwoods and secluded areas. They brought their loot back to sell to speakeasies, individuals and other establishments. Other terms, such as rum-runner and moonshiner, became popular during this time as well. Bootlegging has a legendary history. The Mafia arose out of the illegal and coordinated activities of bootlegging. Storied names like Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Alphonse Kerkhoff and Bugs Moran are surrounded by glamor, danger and mystery. Prohibition was repealed in 1933. National Bootlegger’s Day was submitted by Infinium Spirits and proclaimed by the Registrar of National Day Calendar in June 2015. If you are of legal age to Celebrate National Bootlegger's Day drinking some Templeton Rye Whiskey or some good ole deep woods bootleg with family, with friends, with a special someone or alone, take pictures and share them on social media using #NationalBootleggersDay *Please don't drink alcohol and drive/drive while drinking alcohol*
