One of the main characters in my au, Hot Rod!

She's one of the younger autobots, and one of the only ones that isn't afraid to stand up to Sentinel. When she was "born," she was assigned to Ultra Magnus, taking care of her was supposed to help him have patience and calm the terrible temper he had. She's currently learning how to steer The Ark (and she's not doing so well), as well as having to deal with Sentinel wanting her to be Prime (so that he can keep her under his control). She's curious, and may be the key to stopping the war... Who knows... :)

Next one is Elita-One!

Elita-One, as awesome as she is, she can be the most annoying autobot out there. Depends who you ask. She's a skilled fighter and loyal to the autobot cause, she's saved Optimus in battle countless times, but she's always had an obsession with Optimus, even back when Optimus was still called Orion Pax.

Next up (and one of my favorite), Megaempress!

She's actually Megatron's sister! She and Megatron were created at slightly different times yet they're related! She had a way better life than him though (Her parental figure was Termagax btw), and she never met him until she headed to Earth for a "pit stop" to refill her ship with a supply of energon and other things and stumbled across The Nemesis. She's way more outgoing and energetic than Megatron, and she's tough but friendly. She's leader of a small group of bots who left Cybertron during the war, her second in command being Slipstream!

Next one is Slipstream! (Not official design, I'm changing it up a bit)

Slipstream is actually Starscream's sister! Born at different times though just like Megaempress. She's second in command to Megaenmpress and she's a tough cookie. She and Windblade had some past together but she's moved on. She may be small but she can put up a fight!

Next up is Arachnid! (I made this design a long time ago, I may tweak it around a bit)

(I may combine arachnid and arachnia into one), she's a decepticon since she had no choice but to follow them when she was rescued. She was actually a scientist, but not a good one. She experimented on other cybertronians, to see how future generations could be upgraded. One of her subjects was Blitzwing, where she was trying to upgrade the t-cogs and other parts needed for a transformation so that Cybertronians could change into more than one thing. Blitzwing was her first test for this, and it didn't end so well, he couldn't control the transformations and he was just suffering in general. But after a few more tests on other cybertronians, she was successful. Now most of the young bots can transform into more than one thing because of her.

Next up is Arcee!

A smart bot, she was destined to do great things before the war, but she followed her "heart" instead. She and Skywarp were together for a while and she was happy, but their first official date, was also the day she could've been been accepted into the academy of her dreams. She loved Skywarp so much that she let go of her dream for him, but he never showed up. After that night, she promised that she would never love anyone again.

Next up is Thrust!

Underestimated by her brothers, Ramjet and Dirge, she was abandoned inside an abandoned factory when she was just created. Luckily, Shockwave found her in time before the whole building burned down. She always works her hardest to prove to her brothers that she's just as strong as them.

Next up is Smokescreen!

She's a smart bot! She's one of Hot Rod's closest friends and very close to Optimus. Optimus wanted to give the matrix to her after him, but the matrix didn't choose her, it chose Hot Rod instead. (She goes by any pronouns technically)

Next up is Termagax! (I made this design a while ago, I may change it up a bit)

She was Megaempress's mentor and mother figure!

There's some more, like Cyrak, Windblade, Red Alert, Flamewar, Chromia, Shadow striker, Miko, Nova Storm, Nacelle, etc.

Some more quick photos as This arrived alongside Nightshade,

Bingo Toys "Spider Girl", aka, *not* Blackarachnia/Airachnid.

Such a gorgeous figure in hand, my crappy low light photographs don't do it justice. It improves lot on their Windblade with larger feet and no backwards shin joints so she can actually stand up on her own, and better colours (as I felt their Windblade needed more red or blue to break up the black).

I love her armour design*, as it's a nice blend of the Beast Wars and Animated look of the character. But I was initially going to pass on this figure I hated the miss-matching flesh coloured face her initial reveal had, and a face can make or break a figure for me. However Seemingly a lot of other people had issues with the face, as they added gold versions of the four faces as an extra accessory at the last minute which sold it for me.

*While I'm not overly keen on boobs on a robot it's been a part of Blackarachnia's design since the 90s, and as much as I liked their Windblade I think the 'sexy' look works so much better for Blackarachnia.

I'll need to get my light box set up again and do some proper photography of her and Nightshade at some point...

I'm at a really boring work training so here is go this js my opinions on hot transformers possibly ill add more someday

Jazz: I think I could fix him. Jk theres no force in the galaxy that could do that actually but I could go shopping with him and get milk tea or whatever like yknow what I mean

Shockwave: boob....

Optimus prime: kinda depends on the continuity. Mostly dilf vibes I think which is always hot conceptually but I gotta shout out tfa Optimus who is the most depressed 20something of all time. I wanna teach him crochet as a maladaptive coping mechanism

Arcee: SO COMPETENT. COOL MURDER GRANDMA KYAAAAA

Skyfire: big.... nerd.... cute. Hes so cute yall. Man. Also the whole "man out of time" thing really adds interest points

Perceptor: HES A FUCKING.... MICROSCOPE HOW DOES HE DO IT. REALLY HOT YEA TWIRLS HAIR AROUND HIIIII

Skids: clenches hand ooooooh hes just sooooo traumatized. Obj3ctively hot but also. God. I need to roll him up like a spring roll and deep fry him

Windblade: objectively a neat design but I hate how easily sexygirlified her 3rd party toys get which is of course no fault of hers but does color my opinion unforch

Soundwave: look this shouldn't come as a suprise to anyone everyone in the tf fandom wants to jump this guys bones I've thoight of nothing but es soundwaves snatched waist for 2 weeks. In the same line, blurr. Love that part where blurr gets crushed to death too chefs kiss

Starscream: I cannot legally speak about what I want done to this guy.

Prowl: he's the same kind of hot that Lught from death note is which is to say, radioactively so. But if we're not talking about the idw comics ver then yea sure platonic ideal good cop has kinda an appeal too I guess

Hello! I've fallen in love with your art! My favorite pieces you've drawn would have to be human Starscream and Windblade! They look so amazing! But I also do love Lady KO!! You make her look so pretty!! However I wanted to ask if we could see human Nautica and Skids?! I'm not sure if you've ever been ask this before but they'd probably be awesome to see in your art as humans!! Love your art! Keep up the good work!!

I was able to get an old portable dvd player (thank you parents of the past, it is much appreciated in the year of '21, and thank you sister for keeping it somewhere we could find it) and after buying the cable and charging it, I started watching that Transformers dvd I got some time ago.

Turns out its TF Generations, so we're watching "through the cube" which alright, nice to get the nostalgia going for the parents, while also getting the attention of the kids with the constant rotating scene from scene. Kind of annoying for me but hey, that's just my attention problems.

It has two episodes: More Than Meets the Eye, Part 3 and Auto Berserk and here's my thoughts on the dubbing:

I actually missed dubbing from my childhood, and the fact Soundwave, Spike, Red Alert and Mirage have female VAs brings me intense amounts of joy. I didn't even know I will be so happy to hear this old, somewhat crappy dubbing. I missed it and didn't even know it.

The crowd cheers are pathetic just as I remember them XD

"Ti ne bi mogel voditi androidov na piknik." alright, alright, nice change of a joke that doesn't translate, but that means Megatron (and other Cons probably) discriminate against androids.

The "Transform and roll out! " sounds... strange. Then again it is a dub and I didn't watch this as a kid XD

The way slovene is spoken has me smile and cringe because it sounds so formal but it actually isn't. It might also be the way language evolved. It could also be my lack of watching dubs for a long long time.

Za slovenski folk: "Spremenite se, pa pojdimo!". Ta "Pa pojdimo" me ubije. Uporabili so ga samo enkrat, "Spremenite se" pa je prisoten pri skoraj vsakem transformiranju, ampak tisti resni glas s takim stavkom XD

In total I think there are 3 guys and 1 girl dubbing this. I guess this is similar to what we have today, with the difference the old folks DON'T try to change their pitch... I think. Multiple characters have the same VA amd you can clearly tell it's the same one. (I also think there might be two girls in the new dub group, but I'm not sure).

I wonder why, aside from musicians and comedians, we don't have more voice actors??? Or trained voice actors?

I have no place to really talk, because giving voice to characters is an art, and not everyone can be Frank Welker. So unless I myself go into the dub buisness, I am keeping my mouth shut and congratulating the dubbers.

10 for the effort and execution

(even if the older gen knew how to make falling on the ground sound more realistic. Yes I am still not over Cyberverse Windblade being yeeted across the desert and her screaming and grunting so softlya when she bounces off the floor. But as I said, being a VA is tough work and my nostalgia might also be affecting my viewing of the newer stuff)

So to wrap up the dub experience:

and down here are some of my thought process while watching the two episodes:

who was going to tell me that G1 Prime has a blue underside of his crotch plate? How come I never saw that anywhere?? This has so much potential and jokes about interface difficulties, if I don't find at least one joke in a crackfic about it I will be disapointed.

I love Optimus' head shape and finials, he looks adorable.

I'll watch G1 eventually, but if Spike really does write in his diary about how Optimus would make a good president I am high fiving the lil bastard.

You know you are in too deep when you see a 2D warlord and can't stop smiling. Bitch, I don't even fully know you but BY FUCK do I love the design and mannerisms!!! OG Megatron, 10/10, and I may be biased because childhood dubbing, but they picked a good VA for him.

Great VA choice for Starscream too! And he is very pretty as well, damn, I can see why people love G1 even without nostalgia!

Ravage, what can I say. Good casette. (Also love how he doesn't speak to the Autobots, but comms Megatron)

SPEAKING OF TALKING: Skywarp requesting permission to teleport and his interaction with Megs made me smile so much LOOK AT HIM, LOOK AT OUR TELEPORTING BOY!!! He shoots for shit, is awful at it, but look at him go!

Unicron singularity might be the answer to why Ironhide and Bluestreak can fly, but I'm not sure.

In any case I love how Optimus speaks to Ironhide, it's great. Heck, the Autobots dynamic and interactions are great. I can see why people say Optimus is a dad, or why they talk about how the Autobots are like a family.

Also we see slow motion of how OP transforms and I adore it!

And how he acts too! He is stubborn and it takes multiple attempts to persuade him from sacrificing himself/trying to do his duty as a leader when it's too dangerous. He listens to his friends and soldiers, but isn't hapoy about it. He acknowledges the risk.

Back to blue underside crotch however: IT'S JUST A BLUE LIL SQUARE UNDER ALL THAT WHITE! WHAT PURPOSE DOES IT SERVE ASIDE FROM BEING PRIME'S LIL GARAGE??? COME ON! COME ON!! A blue trussy, I mean tfp had a bikini situation going on, but G1 Prime has just a tiny rectangle/square! I don't even know the shape but it's BLUE ON WHITE CAN IT STAND OUT EVEN MORE??? (And here I thought the Megatron toy and the trigger crotch were bad XD)

Seeing Starscream manipulate Red Alert had me smiling. Look at this tri colori squeak toy jet. Being his eviiil self.

Seeing how Megatron interacts with his other Cons is just hilarious. He is a TERRIBLE boss if you make a misstep. So mean! ...Then again, he is bent on destroying the autobots if he can't get to Cybertron first, so *shrugs* the guy can be a lil frustrated I suppose. He does pick on Screamer alot however, and the dynamic of these two has me understand MegaStar much better.

They are a bickering old couple that joke about how they'll kill eachother, but never go fully through with it. Must be true love~

All in all, glad I got that dvd. Megatron has screen time in it, the animation is ridiculously pretty in that old show way and even if the episodes were probably selected at random for the dvd it was interesting to watch.

I love it. Can't wait to watch G1 when my brain allows it, and I will forever wonder if actual G1 was also dubbed fully.

My top ten transformers of 2022

It's that time of year when you look back on things, and make top ten lists etc...

So here's mine... This is mainly because I don't have anywhere else to talk about my collecting hobby!

(I'm also working on a year summary for my comics.)

10- Shattered Glass Flamewar

While I have mixed feeling on this mould... I think it works a lot better as Flamewar than it did tfp Arcee. I do wish they'd retooled the head as it looks a little bland for her character, but the better paintjob really makes this figure shine.

I still think it's a little odd they put her in the Shattered Glass line. But as a collector of femme-bots it's nice to get a flamewar that doesn't cost £100s on the aftermarket! XD

9- Studio Series Arcee

A great take on Arcee with a fun transformation that actually incorporates the robot mode! I do hope Hasbro takes a leaf out of this figure's design for future Arcee or other femmebot releases.

Probably the best figure in the Studio Series Bumblebee movie line, despite the fact the character only had about 30 seconds screen time!

8- Tf Prime Thundercracker

I got this at tfNation this year (without its accessories or stickers), and it's my first time handling the first edition Starscream mould. It's mainly on this list because I have a lot of good memories associated with it, and I really like the metalic blue colouring of the figure. He really stands out when put next to my other, mainly grey and black, tfp Decepticon toys.

7- Legacy Minerva / Elita One

Another mainline femmebot done right! The backpack folds away neatly and the transformation is involved but not overly complex. Honestly it's great to see a fairly obscure character (at least outside of Japan), done so well and given such a good toy!

6- Flame Toys Windblade

A controvercial figure when it was first anounced. Honestly, my main issue with the original design was the lack of wings. Windblade is a character which already lacks kibble and obvious vehicle parts, she needs her wings to look like a Transformer and not a generic robot. Fortunately they fixed that in the final version of the model kit, and despite not transforming she is probably my favourite Windblade figure, definitely the best of the Flame Toys model kits I've made.

5- Mastermind Creations Eris Kultur

This figure has the most interesting and unique transformation I've ever encountered for a tank-former. I love how the legs become the turret.

I love how imposing she looks and the level of mechanical detail they moulded into the character, and I like how she still looks feminine without going down the overly human/"sexy" look a lot of third party tf's go for... (Nothing wrong with the sexy look if that's what you want, but thats really not what I look for/want in a transformer personally!)

And another lady to add to my Decepticon ranks is appreciated!

It get's marked down because of the fragile hands... I'm probably in the minority but I genuinely prefer posed swappable hands over the overly complex articulated hands MMC seems to be favouring now. I think the articulated hands look ugly, and I'm constantly worried about breaking them or loosing her fingers when I'm messing with the figure... It kinda takes the fun out of it...

4- Legacy Velocitron Override

(Or Nitro Convoy if you follow the Japanese continuity.)

I've never really been able to sit through the Unicron trilogy (I just don't enjoy Anime that much... sorry...), so my main familarity with the character comes from her cameo the TAAO comic.

Despite not having much of an afinity for the character I genuinely love this figure. She's a unique looking femmebot with an awesome mould! Her vehicle mode is almost better than the bot mode, it's such a cool supercar that looks line nothing else in my collection.

I don't regret buying the figure (obviously) but for the price, especially when considering the import mark up outside of the US, she's really small only slightly bigger than a deluxe figure. She really should have come with extra accessories of effects parts to justify what they were charging.

3- Shattered Glass Soundwave

I haven't handled the Netflix Soundwave or Seige Laserbeak and Ravage moulds before. As first impressions go this was a great one!

Soundwave looks great with the metalic blue paintjob, though I really hope he wont suffer from the yellowing problem his comrade SG Starscream had...

Laserbeak was actually my favourite of the three! For such a tiny figure he has a lot of presence!

2- APC Night Countess (Airachnid)

A personal pick for the number 2 slot.

Objectively Night Countess isn't the best figure on this list, she feels a little fragile (due in part to the character's rather spindley design), she lacks functional hands, and her articulation is a little limited.

But she was a birthday present and Prime was the show that turned me into a transformers fan, and Airachnid was one of my favourite characters from that show... But her official toy is one of the worst, if not THE worst tf figure ever made. As a fan of the character I loved seeing her finally get a decent figure!

(I still hope Hasbro does revisit the character officially one day!)

1- Masterpiece Nightbird / Arcee

I intially wasn't going to put these two so high on the list, but I realised these are the two figures I've probably picked up, played with, and photographed the most this year...

They're both super articulated and really expressive figures, which look great in dynamic poses. But despite having a high level of articulation they feel really solid, even their hands feel sturdy (unlike Eris where I'm worried about breaking them).

Yeah they do have large backpacks and are effectively shell-formers... but when you're working with a G1 Arcee design (which I think is an objectively terrible design for a transformer, as much as I like the character!) you're going to have a lot of kibble on her back... But despite that the transformation feels intuitive and is still fun, with the bot-mode tucking away neatly beneath the car.

Of the two I think Nightbird wears the mould the best. If only because the darker colours makes the backpack less obvious.
