There's lots going on in that space.#It's the same with timeskips. CPN Archaeology : A tale of Two Selfies 📸
Let’s label this properly since it’s an old candy that is somehow being talked about right now in bxg circles. It’s always nice to go back and see what we may have missed or just reminisce about some events. I thought about just leaving it but I cannot stop. I must archive candies. you never know what incident will come in handy in the future. lol.

Let’s start with the facts and the context behind the selfies before we delve into the CPN story.
Xiao Zhan’s was posted on Oasis 11/24/2019 with a caption Does it sound good? . This is in reference to his performance in Our Song of Green Light. There is a whole CPN about that & him rapping but we won’t talk about that here. It’s a selfie. His usual sharing of his beautiful face.
Yibo’s was shared 11/2/2019 after Day 2 of CQL’s Nanjing Fanmeet. The caption is : green mountains never change, river always flows. lan wangji removing the make up. So you can take this as a goodbye to the fans and a selfie for everyone who came and to commemorate that memorable night.
Two bare faced selfies. So what. Simple. Well no, since we’re clowns — there is a CPN version of events which may or may not be true.
11/2/2019 was Day 2 of the NJ Concert. The final one. At this time, they were both so busy with their own projects ( Take note OOL finished filming 11/6 ) but they of course have lots of activities related to promoting The Untamed. There are a couple of “lip reading” CPNs for their live events and this is an example of it. This is the video. They were allegedly talking about what photo they gave to the crew to show off to the audience and they both said scenery ( on set ).

( look at xz’s reaction after yb allegedly says he can take his photo. I don’t exactly care if the lip reading is accurate but yb definitely said something naughty. lol. )
After that, we get Yibo’s selfie. The bare faced one that was promised. Speculation is he took it for GG to see since he indirectly asked for it. Second is, it looks like a mirror selfie but it’s not. Someone else took it. Maybe he really was taking a photo of himself but someone was taking a picture of him too. There are turtles saying that his phone is shooting in vertical but the photo posted is horizontal. Also how the placement is wrong if this was taken from a mirror. However, at bare minimum, him posting this kind of selfie after that exchange is interesting.

You can also be sentimental about it and interpret it as him finally shedding the LWJ persona off. It’s time to be Yibo. The person XZ loves. 🤍
XZ on the other hand had to go back and film OOL.
Let’s go back a bit because another important point here is the Nanjing rehearsal. XZ was sick at that time and this is also where Yibo speaks up for XZ ; telling the crew he is not feeling well. If you’ve watched any videos or GIFs from this rehearsal. Ugh! They are so attentive to each other. 🥲

The rehearsal is 11/1/2019 and allegedly that night the cast had dinner together which GG cannot attend because he was sick. As per the photos below, one had Web in it and then it seems like he left.

Now here comes the CPN story : 📝
GG was sick during that day so Web did go to the dinner for a bit but had to go back and look after GG. As a friend who is concerned or as a Boyfriend, take your pick. Depends if you SZD or not. This was also the time where Yibo’s selfie was taken. It’s why GG was able to joke that he thought Web was going to submit his bare faced selfie. He knows because he was there when it was taken. Web made a come back when he brought it up ( gremlin mode ) like he was saying what actually happened so GG had that look on his face. We know how GG loves to start something and when Web takes it up a notch he backs off or acts surprised.
The focus on GG’s selfie is because turtles think that it was also taken that day in Nanjing. Not 11/24 when he posted. He was sick and took some selfies probably to send to Web ( he’s so lucky, like seriously. i get so mad sometimes. ) and shared the leftover with us. Nothing new. We’ve been speculating that some of his selfies are leftovers and the best ones are sent to Yibo. We just didn’t know he’s been doing it for so long. If you wanna clown further, they are in the same hotel room. The same hotel is more plausible tho. All the talk about GG’s pimple mark as a baseline on when this photo was taken is not really relevant ( at least to me ). The story already makes sense as it is. 🤍

Hello! So @mdzsnet asked their members to introduce themselves with the character most similar to us! 
I think I identify with Lan Wangji the most, but more specifically him as he is during the Cloud Recesses lectures and the Sunshot Rebellion. I’m someone who operates “by the rules” and so I understand a lot of LWJ’s struggles throughout MDZS/CQL because being too bound to the rules can be stifling.I'm also like LWJ because I'm a pretty quiet person around people I don't know very well. I think LWJ has a rich inner dialogue and he's constantly silently observing and evaluating, and I do this a lot too. I aspire to be the person who LWJ grows into, someone who still understands the rules, but also someone who learns how to use them as guidance rather than an “end-all-be-all.” On a lighter note, my sleep schedule also lines up with the Lan sleep schedule. I’m a morning person, which forces me to go to bed at a reasonable time. 
Because of that, I chose to make an edit centered around his time during the Cloud Recesses lectures. I wanted to highlight a few times where he may have wished he could have broken the rules or had a little bit of fun. I think these are also the three rules that follow him around for the entirety of the series and haunt him at times. I included the donghua scenes because I love the donghua and I love LWJ’s character design. 
I watched kdramas for a few years before venturing into watching cdramas. I was looking for a good period cdrama to watch, and CQL was repeatedly recommended to me. I watched it around July 2020, and then dived into the greater MDZS fandom and never made it out. My favorite MDZS character is Jiang Cheng; I took one look at his entrance in CQL episode 2 and went “I like that guy.” I just love his story so much, and I see him as a perfectly imperfect character, flawed in a very captivating way. 
I started creating content for MDZS/CQL & learning how to gif in April 2021, and just recently finished my “50 days, 50 episodes” gif series. That was a fun challenge for myself and I learned A LOT about coloring, scene selection, etc. I also create content for Word of Honor and TGCF, and occasionally for Nirvana in Fire, the SVSSS donghua, and random anime series I’ve seen. 
I am thankful for the net and all the members in it!! It is a joy to be able to interact with everyone. I am continuiously inspired by and in awe of all the talent shown.  
Other than that, I am looking forward to the release of the MDZS donghua S3, the Sha Po Lang live action, Immortality/Hao Yi Xing, and the second season of the SVSSS donghua. 
Idk if anyone has made it this far, but if you have, thank you for reading all of my rambling.

Heyyy friend, I think I’ve seen a couple of girl!wwx fics floating around in ao3 so i certainly won’t be the first :P.
Also I completely misread your ask initially, I thought you were asking me what I think would happen if A-Yuan was WWX’s kid, and I was like oh?? But then I realize wait... I can make it worse.  
Today, I decided that my mortal soul doesn’t matter, so here we go. Let’s see how accursed I can make this idea:

It started with Jiang Cheng. Jiang Wanyin had set out for the Burial Mount with the explicit goal of throttling speaking with Wei Wuxian, but what greeted him at the entrance of the “Demon Subduing Palace” — more of a cave than anything really — was not his martial sister, but Wen Ning. Well, what had once been Wen Ning.
Black veins ran across his pale, ashen face, down his equally ashen neck , and into the major veins beneath his clavicles covered by the collars of his black threadbare robes. Lifeless eyes, white as his skin, stared into a void the living could not see. There were talismans littering his body, and Jiang Cheng knew that when he spoke to this fierce corpse, he was not speaking to the young Wen boy, but to his mistress who controlled him with her demonic cultivation. 
Wei Wuxian refused to face him. Refused him explanation. Refused him closure.
“Er-jie!” Jiang Cheng screamed into the stony expressionless face of Wen Qionglin. “If you continue to protect them, then I can’t protect you!!” 
There was no response. 
Suddenly, just as Jiang Cheng was about to kick and fight his way into the cave, Wen Ning thrusted out his right fist, and in his grasp was a piece of purple silk. Jiang Cheng unfolded the silk, vaguely recognizing that it had been cut from someone’s robe, and saw what was wrapped within was a slip of parchment.
割袍断义*, the paper read. Tell the world that I, Wei Wuxian, first disciple of Yunmeng Jiang has forever defected (Note: 割袍断义- to rip one's robe as a sign of repudiating a sworn brotherhood (idiom)).
With this, there was nothing left to say. Hurt and furious, Jiang Wanyin threw the piece of parchment onto the dirt ground, grinded his heel down on it, and left the Burial Mount without ever having drawn Sandu. 
Inside the cave, Wen Qing held Wei Wuxian’s hand. “Why won’t you just tell him? He’s your brother; he can help you, you can —” 
Wei Wuxian’s mile long stare seemed to be gazing at something — someone — very far away. Slowly, she placed her other palm over her belly, which horrifically was already starting to round out. “Nobody can help me now, Qing-jie.”
“I can,” said Wen Qing, blunt as ever. “I can make it go away, if you want.”
“No.” A droplet of tear escaped pass long lashes. “No.”

It continued with Jiang Cheng.
On a snowy night, the first winter after Wei Wuxian escaped with the Wen remnants to the Burial Mount, Jiang Cheng was rudely awakened from his slumber by a less-than-stealthy intruder breaking and entering into his bed chamber.
Zidian whipped through the air, lighting the room with her eerie violet glow, before the intruder could think to take one more step. It was a man, judging from his silhouette colliding against the wall and the pained groan he made in response. The very next second, the tail of Zidian coiled tightly around his neck and dragged him across the floor towards beneath Jiang Cheng’s waiting foot. 
The Sect Master of Yunmeng Jiang summoned Sandu, ready to deliver the final strike, but just as his blade sailed towards the intruder’s chest, a pale arm jutted upwards, blocking Sandu’s descent and revealing a pale hand holding a … a... 
Even in the dark, Jiang Cheng immediately recognized the mahogany comb. 
“Jiang — ! Zongzhu —!” The man croaked out urgently, throat still stomped on by Jiang Cheng’s foot. It was - it was Wen Ning?!
Jiang Cheng looked him over. He was pale, yes, but his eyes appeared human. His hair was brushed and haphazardly done up in a farmer’s top knot. He was wearing farmer’s clothing too, probably more inconspicuous for travel than his Ghost General getup.  
“Jiang-zongzhu! P—please!!”
No, impossible. 
“Wei — Wei-guniang—”
Jiang Cheng lifted his foot and dragged Wen Ning up in a split second. “What’s wrong with Wei Wuxian?!”  Wen Ning coughed and shook his head desperately. “No time to explain. My sister asked me to fetch you. Please, you have to come! Wei-guniang’s life is in danger! If you won’t come, I’ll...I’ll have to go to Gusu, and I don’t know if - if -” 
Jiang Cheng followed Wen Ning. 
For speed, they travelled by sword, but even so, dawn was breaking by the time they arrived. The crowd of Burial Mount’s villagers huddling anxiously outside of the Demon Subduing Palace parted for them upon their arrival. Jiang Cheng took a moment to gather himself and square his shoulders. Whatever it was; he was ready.  
He was wrong. None of the dozens of scenario he had agonized over on the flight here could have prepared him for what awaited him inside. 
Wen Qing, pale and drenched in sweat, was near complete spiritual collapse, and without Wen Qing’s spiritual energy sustaining her, the single tenuous thread by which Wei Wuxian’s life hung on would have undoubtedly snapped under the toil and devastation her body had been put through. 
There was so much blood, so, so much blood everywhere, and amidst the blood, there was a baby. 
Fuck. 
Jiang Cheng transfused his sister half of his total spiritual reserve over the course of a day, while an exhausted but unrelenting Wen Qing worked diligently under blood-soaked sheets. 
Then at dusk, when the storm finally passed, Jiang Cheng sat at the mouth of the cave with a tiny, perfect little human — a girl, a niece! —  in his arms and cursed Lan Wangji’s name. 
Wen Qing was extremely clear with them: 孩子要是留在这里,养不活。
If the newborn was left to be raised at the Burial Mount, she would not live. And so, because parting was inevitable from the start, Wei Wuxian adamantly refused to hold or nurse the child. Her child. 
I can’t. If I do, I won’t be able to let her go. Those dark eyes burned with more than just the delirium of her childbed fever. For once, Jiang Cheng could not find it in himself to argue.
Thus, he took his niece home and named her Jiang Yan 江曕. The name was not his doing. His foolish, misguided, stubborn sister had stroked her daughter’s soft, baby cheek and whispered it to her as a farewell gift. 
Yan - to be bathed in daylight. In the end, when given a choice, Wei Wuxian still opted for her child to walk on broad sunny road. 
It made Jiang Cheng wonder why, then, she would choose the dark twisted path for herself instead.

It ended with Jiang Cheng. 
The truth was simple: Jiang Wanyin killed his shijie Wei Wuxian. He did. He meant to. 
He killed her. But that did not mean he wanted her dead. 
In one day, he had lost both of his sisters, leaving two orphans in their wake. Jiang Cheng could not ignore the cruel irony of their fate: one’s father murdered by his aunt, and other’s mother murdered by her uncle. 
This was the kind of tragedy fairytales were made of, and if there were anything left in him to shed tears over it, he would.  Standing amongst Nevernight’s carnage, he could not dredge up even a single drop of tear.  
Jiang Cheng didn’t know how he could return home to Lotus Pier to face that cherub face, always so happy, so sweet, so utterly untainted by the world. She had her mother’s smile. Yan'er was starting to learn how to speak. Her first words were da-da. 
Da-da. Die-die. Father. 
He was standing beside her father now. 
Lan Wangji. Devastated. Destroyed. …Deceived.
Jiang Cheng hated him so much, so fucking much that for one insane second, he thought about telling Lan Wangji the truth just to see what would happen. Maybe he would run Jiang Cheng through with his Bichen - that would be a relief now, wouldn’t it? - or maybe he would jump after Wei Wuxian. 
Truly, if he knew, he would. Jump, that is. Jiang Cheng was almost entirely sure. Oh the utter melodrama that would inspire indeed!  
But then... 
Wei Ying birthed you a daughter, a lovely, perfect, blessed little girl, and she carried that secret to her grave. I may be damned by my actions, but you, who have done nothing for her and taken everything, why should you deserve something as sacred as the truth?
Jiang Cheng turned away. 
He was acutely aware that one day Jiang Yan may very well be the literal death of him. After all — 杀母之仇不共戴天 — one cannot tolerate living under the same sky as the murderer of one’s mother. 
Be that as it may, he would raise Jiang Yan well, just as he promised. Unlike his sister, he would not break his word. Jiang Yan was of Lotus Pier, of Yunmeng, like her mother and grandfather before her. That for him, was enough. 
Jiang Cheng clutched Sandu and gripped Zidian. Whatever his fate, he already made peace with it, and the rest was inconsequential. 
One day, he may die, but today he lives, and so as long as he lives, Jiang Yan and all of Yunmeng Jiang will be protected . So as long as he lives, they will flourish. 
[...and in between]
On the streets of Yiling, Lan Wangji tilted his head inquisitively at Wei Wuxian and the little boy at her side and asked, “This child, he...” 
In response, Wei Wuxian patted her chest in a self-declarative kind of way and announced, “Oh this child, I birthed him!” 
He stared at her in shell-shocked silence, his mind racing with panicked thoughts of but that’s impossible — that was just once — even if — the boy is too old to be —
“怎么,蓝湛,不要我们娘儿俩了?” What, Lan Zhan, you don’t want the child and I?
“Wei— Wei Ying—” 
Then of course, she had laughed, and Lan Wangji thought no more of it. 
Just a joke. A silly joke. 
In time, he would come to realize his mistake.

Japan Trip
This is a compilation post explaining the Japan trip and related theories (along with my own thoughts). Most of the theories in here are well-known. If you know the general gist of the Japan trip, you probably won’t see anything new.
Warning: This is all fake. Don’t take what I say to heart. These are just my random thoughts.

All my explanations and thoughts will be bracketed and italicized: [like this]. If you would like to just read about the theories, ignore the bracketed and italicized bits.
I suggest reading all of the theories first and creating your own opinion on the trip before reading my commentary, especially if you’re a new fan. (AKA ignore the bracketed & italicized parts for now).
[One last thing before I start (and a test for those who want to read the theories first… ignore this for now): I believe this Japan trip changed their relationship… In that, I believe they began their romantic relationship after this trip. A quick timeline mention: truthfully, their relationship before and during CQL filming isn’t too important for this theory. However, I do believe that there was some sort of confession from WYB at the end of filming, which may have played a role in XZ’s decision to take the trip to Japan. I’ll provide my reasoning later in the post. All my explanations and thoughts are going to be based on these particular assumptions; although, I will try to include rebuttals & explanations based on countering arguments.]

PRE-JAPAN TRIP:
Character Bleed
XZ’s reasoning behind his Japan trip in this interview @ 9:31
XZ explicitly says, “I told myself I had to walk out of it.” His reasoning being, “[I had to] leave him there. [I had to] return him to the one he loves.”
You can unpack a lot from that. I got two main things from it:
(“I had to walk out of it”): you can assume that XZ took everything from WWX and made it his own, including, and specifically, WWX’s love for LWJ. Essentially, by the end of filming, XZ himself was in love with LWJ.
(“return him to the one he loves”): XZ separates himself very clearly from WWX. He points out his reasoning to walk it off is him wanting to return WWX to the one he loves… the implication is that he figured out he doesn’t love the one WWX loves.
[The reason I think there was some sort of confession at the end of filming that pushed XZ to take this trip and figure himself out is because he already knew he loved LWJ. I think he may have attributed any romantic feelings he felt towards WYB to the fact that he plays the character he loves. So, if WYB confessed to wanting to pursue a romantic relationship with him, it makes sense that XZ would hesitate. I doubt he’d want to lead WYB on just to later realize all of his feelings were for LWJ and not him. I’m sure XZ would’ve walked off WWX eventually, but I think he did it as quickly as he could to give a certain person (and himself) answers.
Obviously, I don’t know how XZ goes about with his acting, so these are all just random assumptions.]

Changed Phone Number
I’ve gotten a few asks wanting me to clarify and give my opinion on the rumor about XZ changing his number and WYB asking around for it. I’ve heard two versions of this:
The first version has two variations:
XZ changed his number sometime after his DDU appearance in 2017 and before CQL began shooting, and WYB was asking the CQL crew for it.
XZ changed his number during CQL filming sometime, and WYB was asking the CQL crew for it.
The second version is that XZ changed his number before he left to Japan and WYB was asking around for it for months (who he was asking was undefined).
A related rumor I want to note: a fan who was at the airport when XZ was waiting for his flight to Japan supposedly saw him not answering his phone.
Let me clarify the relationship between WeChat & phone numbers:
In WeChat, every registered user gets a WeChat ID. There are three main ways people can add someone: (1) have the person’s WeChat ID (2) have the person’s phone number (3) have access to the person’s QR code. For (1) and (2), the other person must enable the option to be found via WeChat ID or phone number in order for you to find them. You can also choose to not show your phone number at all, so even if someone adds you via (1) or (3), they may still not have access to your number depending on your settings. To sum it up, you do NOT need to know another person’s phone number to message them on WeChat. Practically everyone in China uses WeChat as their main social messaging application… you can send messages (text & voice) and you can call (voice-only & video). People don’t use their actual given numbers to message or call too much (ex. iPhone messaging/ Facetime); phone numbers are typically used when making accounts on various social media apps, online payment, etc.
There’s a pretty well-backed up theory that WYB asked one of his DDU co-hosts (specifically DZW) if he could get XZ’s WeChat ID for him during/ after filming the episode with XNINE. If this theory is true, we can only be sure that he got XZ’s WeChat ID, not that he got his phone number.
If you do want to change your number or WeChat ID (prior to 2020, you could only change your WeChat ID once per account), you can simply go into the WeChat settings and update; this process won’t change your WeChat account and it won’t affect any of your contacts or chat history. If you want to stop receiving messages & calls from someone, you can either block or delete them from your contacts on the app.
I’m pointing all of this out because I’m pretty sure most of XZ’s & WYB’s communication takes place in WeChat. WYB has said in several interviews that he now prefers his phone and wifi access; he’s also said that he can’t go without WeChat now.
[I honestly don’t think this rumor is real. But, out of the two versions, I’d say the first version (either variation) makes more sense than the second version.
I have three reasons for thinking the second version is the most unlikely:
It’d be easier to block the other person for however long you need (and then unblock them or delete them depending on your choice later) rather than going through the hassle of changing your number. Remember when WYB’s phone number got leaked and he had to change it (August 2019)? He asked people to not use his number to log into accounts; he even mentioned that he would need to change all of them, which would be a large hassle. Sure, there could be circumstances where you’d want to change your phone number… but I don’t think this situation is that extreme, especially since it was supposedly at the airport before his trip and before he decided.
I don’t think XZ’s the type of person to leave someone hanging, no matter how much internal turmoil he may be dealing with, and especially not when that someone is close to him. I believe he’d at least inform others that he’ll be out of range and to not message or call him. Not to mention, if he told WYB to not contact him for the next couple of days, I’d like to believe WYB would respect that wish, whether he knew the reason or not. Since I do think that WYB confessed prior to the Japan trip, I believe he knew. But, even if he didn’t, he has integrity and self-respect. He’s going to respect others’ wishes, and even more so if he respects the other person… and he does respect XZ.
The theory specifically points out “months” … WYB literally celebrated XZ’s birthday with him about three weeks after this trip.
As for the first version:
Variation #1 implies that this happened at the start of filming/ bootcamp; it also implies that WYB got XZ’s number after he contacted him on WeChat. One assumption I have is: I don’t think celebrities/ people in the industry exchange phone numbers much, just their WeChat IDs. This is why I don’t think XZ & WYB exchanged numbers when they first met, only their WeChat IDs. As for WYB asking the crew for XZ’s number… if he already had XZ’s previous number, I kinda doubt he’d go around asking others when he could just ask XZ himself.
Variation #2 probably makes the most sense out of all three, and even then it’s a bit of a stretch. This variation implies that it’s a few months into filming, at which point XZ & WYB were extremely close. I doubt he’d be too nervous to ask XZ directly for his new number. The only rebuttal I could think of for this is that perhaps WYB asking around instead of asking XZ himself was him being coquettish.
In the end, this rumor doesn’t make too much sense to me. But take it as you will.]

MID-JAPAN TRIP:
XZ’s 180911 Post + Story
We know that he kept deleting his Weibo posts before the number could reach *520. (*520 & 521 are both kadian for “I love you” even though 520 is more widely used.)
XZ posted his 520th post on 180911 (right in the middle of his trip). It was an ad for AHC. AHC is the first brand both WYB & XZ shared and spoke for; I believe WYB stopped his spokesperson duties on 180829 & XZ began his on 180907.
XZ posted his 17th story, also on 180911, of him on a ferry during the trip.
[I burst out laughing when I realized he posted an ad for his 520th post. He kept deleting posts to make sure he stayed away from #520; he could’ve easily deleted another post to make the ad his 519th. A lot of solo fans were looking forward to his 520th post being dedicated to them (exhibit 1), and then he did that. Sly as per usual. And the 17th story... leading up to the 18th. I think XZ pretty much knew/ made his choice/ accepted his feelings by this point, which is why he posted like this.]

XZ’s 180913 Post & Story

XZ posted this video on Weibo on 180913. It was his *521th post & *18th story. (*52118 = “wo ai ni yi bo” A BXG posted about counting XZ’s posts to find these numbers.)
His caption was:
以为在拍照的找🤣... (夏天的风结束了,假期也结束了🌿🌿🎋)
which roughly translates to:
“I thought I was posing for a photo🤣... (The summer wind is over, the holiday is also over 🌿🌿🎋)”
There are several theories about the caption.
the emojis:
The bamboo emoji refers to WYB. In this behind the scenes footage, XZ compares WYB’s face to a bamboo stick.
the words:
XZ is referring to the season ending and the weather in the video where the wind is blowing across his face.
When XZ states that both the summer wind and his holiday are over, he is implying that he has left the character he became that summer (WWX) behind and moving forward.
XZ is referring to the song Summer Wind (夏天的风) by Liu Rui Qi (刘瑞琦). I’m not going to go too deep into this; the lyrics in question are:
夏天的风 我永远记得 清清楚楚地说你爱我 我看见你酷酷的笑容 也有腼腆的时候
roughly translates to
The summer wind, I will always remember [you] saying clearly that you love me. I saw your cool smile [yet] there are times when you are shy.
Interpretations are: (line 1) “summer wind” & “always remember” - XZ is reminiscing on the things that have happened that summer when CQL was filmed. (line 2) “saying clearly… you love me” - a confession from a certain someone… we know of one on camera: “zhan-ge didi ai ni.” (lines 3-4) “cool smile” & “shy” - these adjectives fit a person we know.
[I didn't find out about half of these caption theories until way later, and once I had already formed my opinion on this trip. A lot of it seems like a stretch, but all the theories make some sort of sense. Meh, there’s a lot you can do with a caption, so just take it all in.
Personally, I didn’t pay attention to the caption too much. I knew about the lyrics, but I purposely avoided them precisely because they were lyrics; you can do a lot with them. I finally explored it for this post, and I actually like it a lot; it’s very sweet. I’m still leaning towards the reference being unlikely; however, XZ is very sneaky, so I wouldn’t put it past him. I also knew about the bamboo reference, but I never gave it much thought. I didn’t think that one scene of them joking around was enough to say that he used the emoji to refer to WYB. Though, if it was actually a reference, there’s definitely more to it that we don’t know about. Ultimately, for this one, my decision was based on the basics: the kadian (and later reinforced by the whole AHC ad post).]

XZ’s 181119 Post @ 17:42

A major theory for this post comes from his caption:
“一些存货... 现代人即将拥有姓名 [’silent giggling’ emoji]... ”
roughly translates to
“some stock [photos]... modern man will soon be named...”
The main focus here is the “modern man.”
Once the behind the scenes footage and interviews began releasing, BXG started noticing how WYB got whenever XZ mentioned LWJ. His facial expressions always changed… immediate frowns. BXG speculated that WYB was trying to show himself as separate from his character, but XZ didn’t take notice. The character LWJ is figuratively and literally from the past; the actor on the other hand is from modern society. Thus, XZ mentioning modern man was taken to be a reference to XZ’s love for the actor alone, not the character.
[To those who have sent asks about the “modern man” quote, I hope this clears it up. My interpretation of it is the same. At the end of the day, XZ most definitely separated the two.]
Another theory for this one is that the horizontal middle row pictures spell out “王一博” going from left to right.

The lines on the building look like the character
He could’ve meant “look towards,” which is what he’s doing in the picture. It is a different character (“望”), and has a slightly different pronunciation (“wàng”)
He could’ve meant “going in one direction,” referring to the arrow on the sign, which is a different character (“往”), and has a slightly different pronunciation (“wǎng”)

Another meaning for “博” is “extensive” or “rich” which you can take the design on the outside of the to be
The building is a museum, whose word (“博物馆”) begins with “博”

One last theory about this post: BXG then witnessed XZ editing his post in real time to change the position of the first two pictures. There’s a theory that he saw this post (below) from the previous day and changed the positions to match.

[I was so enamored by this theory until I actually went looking for it. The post of WYB’s pictures is from a fan, and while I don’t doubt that they saw more of fans’ posts back then, this one wasn’t tagged or anything. It could easily have been XZ’s artist side popping up. But, maybe XZ was lurking on his private account. Even though it’s one of the more iffy ones, it’s such a cute theory that I actually don’t mind believing it.]
This is a side note and not part of the actual theory: On my search for all things related to this trip, I noticed one of WYB’s posts where he did a similar thing.

WYB posted exactly *1:05 hours after XZ posted. (*105 = 10/5, XZ’s birthday)
His caption was “冒个泡”
He was using internet slang; it can be vaguely translated to “I am here.” In context, he’s using the slang to refer to him not posting for a long time; he’s ‘showing his presence.’
Notable Things:
He posted the day prior on 181118; it wasn’t an ad, but it wasn’t exactly personal either.
He posted a picture of himself with his DDU brothers during a trip on 181104.
He had not posted a selfie since 181004. (Back then, he updated personal posts once or twice a week, whether it was a selfie or something about his life, such as what show he was watching. The month & a half time gap between personal posts would’ve been unusual.)
The caption & selfie work as a response to XZ’s “modern man will soon be named.”
Another thing fans were intrigued about was the time stamp on the photo, 180525.
WYB never really posts throwbacks, especially with selfies, yet he did one here to a date in the middle of CQL filming. He also usually never adds the date to his photos.
Isn’t it interesting that he captions the post with slang that tells people he’s back from a break, but uses an old photo instead of a new one? If someone’s announcing that they’re coming back from a break (especially a celebrity), wouldn’t it make more sense to post a recent photo rather than an old one (in this case, one from 6 months ago)? And, why even bother including the date in the first place?
[I can’t believe I barely noticed that WYB posted 1:05 hours after XZ. What in the world WYB? I’m losing my mind. It’s down to the damn minute, and their minutes weren’t a “0” or “5” multiple either. I usually try to pass off a lot of things regarding YiZhan (especially kadian) as coincidences, but what even is this? If it wasn’t intentional… What kind of connection do these two share?
Yes, I do think this was WYB’s response. The throwback picture was probably the most telling for me; him including the date he took the photo was like a flashing sign saying: ‘hey look at this date. it’s important.’ And when you add the caption into the mix, it’s taken to another level. I feel the combination of hints in and related to the post is too much and too telling to be coincidental.]

Time Gap
There’s an interesting time gap between the two XZ’s posts (180913 & 181119). There are a few theories about what could’ve happened in those two months. Some of the ones I’ve seen and heard are:
XZ & WYB could’ve been taking that time to tell their parents and settle things with their agencies
XZ & WYB could’ve begun dating exclusively after XZ’s return
Both of these theories imply that everything got settled or made official around 181119.
[I never really thought about the time gap between the posts… mostly because I kept forgetting there even was one. They’re both ridiculously romantic so I don’t doubt that 181119 is something of importance to them. I think it’s especially proving that both of them did a throwback to the same seemingly important time period.]

WYB’s 190322 Post

This post is pretty similar to XZ’s 181119 throwback post to the Japan trip. The theory for this one is that WYB spelled out “肖战” using the vertical middle row, going from top to bottom.
肖 - The tree looks like the top part of the “肖” character; the branches look like the bottom part of it.
战 - Since WYB placed an image of the entire Roman colosseum (where gladiator battles took place) in the last spot, he may have been alluding to how “战” means “battle” or “fight” (similar to how XZ may have been alluding to the meaning of “博” instead of getting a picture of the character).
WYB filmed the DDU episode on 3/22; I don’t believe there’s another significance to the date.
[WYB spelling out the “肖” using the first two pictures backs up my thinking that XZ spelled out the “王” and “一” characters in his first two pictures. This also leads me to think that both of them alluded to each other’s last character rather than spelling it out in their third pictures.]

FINAL THOUGHTS:
[The reason I like this overall theory a lot is because I think the happenings really fit with the things they’ve told us in interviews and suit their personalities. It makes sense to me that XZ would want to take some time to think about it; it makes sense to me that WYB was probably the one who took the first step.
As for the theories about the details… some of them are really out there, but all of them are fun to consider. As usual, take everything with a grain of salt.]
Some of these posts & events have several theories (i.e. XZ’s summer wind caption); they aren’t mutually exclusive… more than one can be true at the same time.
I tried to be as neutral as I could when explaining these theories. I tried to include counters and other possibilities, but I’m sure some bias came out. Just take it all in and take it for what it is.
My intention with this post was to put everything into perspective and give a good timeline. (As well as get everything in one place.) If you’re interested in my thoughts, feel free to go back and read the italicized & bracketed parts (if you hadn’t already).

Every theory has inconsistencies and exaggerations… that’s what makes it a theory. As long as we discuss things knowing this fact, that’s all that matters. We’re here to have fun, not to prove what’s right or wrong.
I love seeing the various theories everyone in this community puts out, no matter how different or similar they are to the ones I like/ believe in. It’s fun to look into these things with different perspectives. Don’t feel burdened if you believe in a less popular theory. Besides, we will never know anything for sure.

Part One: Claims about the Song of Clarity/the Song of Turmoil and the Nie Clan
Intro - Pt 1 - Pt 2 - Pt 3 - Pt 4
SoC/SoT
1) The SoC is expected to heal NMJ completely
This one is fairly straightforward: one of the Nie cultivators literally says that he didn't expect the Song of Clarity /not/ to heal NMJ completely, around 12:30 in: "Master's illness is getting worse. I didn't expect that cleaning music can't completely cure him." While this could just be one person's incorrect idea, the cultivator he makes this observation to does not correct him, and in general, FJ does not at any point suggest that he is wrong.
As far as I can tell, the claim that the SoC is expected to completely heal NMJ is not made anywhere in MDZS or CQL; nor is there any suggestion the music had been used to treat the sabre curse for past Nie cultivators, so, indeed, how would they know what to expect? Moreover, in neither MDZS or CQL does anyone seem surprised that it failed to heal NMJ entirely, including LXC who would know if anyone would; rather LXC seems to consider his turmoil-induced progression entirely plausible despite (he thinks) JGY's consistent playing of Clarity.
2) A few brief passages from the SoC, even when played by someone with weak cultivation, can very quickly bring a halt to NMJ's violence
On multiple occasions we are shown the gold SoC very quickly visually affect NMJ, returning him to normal from sabre-curse-red. Twice, it halts him partway through significant violence—JGY preventing his attack on NHS in the beginning, and NHS temporarily preventing his attack on NZH. This is so even though NHS and JGY canonically have weak cultivation (ch 14 and 21 for NHS, a whole lot of chapters for JGY but see also this next paragraph).
Consider by contrast this passage from ch. 64:
Wei WuXian, “Jin GuangYao’s spiritual energy isn’t high. He wouldn’t have been able to take someone’s life with just seven notes. And killing him this way would’ve been too obvious. He definitely wouldn’t have chosen a song so powerful. But, if he could use the reason of playing the Song of Clarity for ChiFeng-Zun to calm his temper and continued to play it for three months, would the song be able to act as a slow poison and catalyse ChiFeng-Zun’s outburst?”
It's clear that JGY's ability to affect things via musical cultivation is limited, precisely because he does not have high cultivation.
As a side note: WWX's speculated timeline here is sometimes given as evidence that JGY was playing the corrupted SoC for NMJ /before/ the stairs incident. However, I'll observe that he is, indeed, speculating, and moreover that he is contradicted by his own experience in the Empathy flashback, especially as he also says—see the next point—that JGY would have used very little spiritual power in the unaltered SoC (ch 49):
Since then, Jin GuangYao would travel from Lanling to Qinghe every few days, playing Sound of Lucidity to help quell Nie MingJue rage. He tried his hardest, without speaking even a single word of complaint. Sound of Lucidity was indeed effective. Wei WuXian could clearly feel that the hostile energy within Nie MingJue was being suppressed.
And then, talking to LWJ and LXC following shortly on the three months quote above:
Thus, Jin GuangYao didn’t dare straight up play to him the dark song and instead took trouble to combine two songs of different styles with opposite uses. And he combined them so well. They sound as though there were the same. His musical talent is indeed excellent. I’m guessing that he used little spiritual power in the Cleansing sections and only exerted power in the section of The Collection of Turmoil.
I don't think this is particularly mysterious—WWX has gone through quite a bit since experiencing these moments in the Empathy flashback, including the rest of the Empathy flashback where, since he feels NMJ's anger, he would have been experiencing a great deal of anger at JGY.
In CQL though WWX doesn't specifically give JGY's low cultivation as a reason for him to choose the SoT instead of the instantly deadly song, JGY does still have low cultivation.
In terms of FJ, I'd like also to note that in MDZS, there's a similar scene in ch 49 where NMJ is upset at NHS for not knowing where his sabre is, and tells NHS to burn the fans he's playing with; in FJ NMJ /actually/ breaks NHS' brush, and doesn't indulge in burning or threats thereof, but it's a clear parallel to the MDZS scene). However, there are a few significant differences. First, this happens before JGY starts playing for NMJ without LXC present; that is to say, regardless of when you think JGY started playing turmoil for NMJ, he could not possibly have started yet. Second, JGY defends NHS to NMJ's face, and in front of NHS:
In a hurry, Nie HuaiSang dropped a few fans on the ground. Jin GuangYao picked them up for him and put them into his arms, “HuaiSang’s hobbies are quite elegant. He’s dedicated to art and calligraphy, and has no propensity for mischief. How can you say that they’re useless?”
Third, although NMJ is angry, and expresses his anger through violence to nearby objects ("Nie MingJue slammed his palm onto a table, causing it to crack"), he does not actually directly attack NHS, or indeed actually harm NHS' fans—although NHS nevertheless falls to his knees in his terror at NMJ's initial approach.
And fourth, and most relevantly to this point, although JGY does save NHS from NMJ's anger here, he /explicitly textually does it by being a more appealing target/:
Jin GuangYao walked in from outside the hall. Nie HuaiSang looked as though he saw a knight in shining armor, beaming, “Brother, you’re here!”
In reality, it wasn’t that Jin GuangYao could calm Nie MingJue’s anger, but that since Jin GuangYao came, all of Nie MingJue’s anger would be directed at him alone, having no time to scold others. Thus, there was nothing wrong with saying that he was Nie HuaiSang’s knight in shining armor.
CQL is missing many of these scenes, but there is not as far as I remember any evidence that JGY could quickly stop NMJ's violence via music.
3) The SoT is so powerful that its brief corrupted passage will totally overwhelm all positive effects from the unaltered SoC, even if the player is using equal cultivation power throughout.
This isn't explicitly stated, but it's the only mechanism by which the plan of 'have NHS play the corrupted SoC' makes any sense at all. Otherwise, as far as I can tell, NHS would actually be helping NMJ, just more slowly than if he had the full SoC, since he would have no reason to use less power in the unaltered section. Indeed, we see the gold flow of the regular SoC affecting NMJ when NHS plays it, which suggests he's using regular amounts of power there. Consider by contrast what WWX says to LXC and LWJ in ch 64, as above:

I am, I want to note, not an expert in the theory of musical cultivation, or in the xianxia genre. Nevertheless, the obvious inference from what WWX says there is if JGY had been using full power in the Cleansing sections, Turmoil wouldn't have worked.
And of course as I mentioned above, WWX gives a timeline of three months and calls it a slow poison. CQL pretty much matches here, giving the he didn't use much spiritual power in cleansing, the slow poison part, and indeed the three-month timeline.
The Nie Clan
1) When the curse is coming on them too strongly, they remove themselves to the tombs to die there.
This is explicitly stated by NMJ when he and NHS have fallen into the tombs.
As far as I can tell, there's no evidence for this in either MDZS or CQL. Indeed, in neither does NMJ seem to be doing anything to deal with the fact of his increasing anger—that is, he accepts the treatment of the SoC, but he doesn't do anything about the fact that his increasing anger and hence increasing use of violence are dangerous to the people around him. If anything, he seems rather in denial. This is probably more justifiable in CQL, where he dies at the stairs and thus doesn't have the chance to reevaluate post-stairs or post-burning NHS' things,* but nevertheless there's no sign of it.
*That is, we don't see him burn NHS' things in CQL, and in MDZS it happens after the stairs, so it seems reasonable to assume it didn't happen in CQL; that said CQL does not as far as I know actively tell us he did not burn NHS' things.

💍AU where JZX and JYL have a perfectly normal, loving engagement without any of the "she isn't good enough for me" nonsense. Instead, it's LWJ and WWX who have the problem. YZY said that if JFM was to bring him into the sect, he might as well contribute to sect alliances with an arranged marriage, and the Lan sect had a second son, so why not? The first time they actually met was at the cloud recesses and of course, since there was no JZX problem, WWX was never kicked out, but by the end 1/?
💍AU: there was a hopelessly infatuated WWX, completely and utterly in love in the second master Lan, but an annoyed ticked off LWJ who wanted nothing more than to break off his engagement with the unruly, messy, hyper Jiang disciple. WWX, throughout his stay, tried to flirt, give gifts, quiet himself down, anything to try and make his betrothed like him, even just a little, only to be met with rejection after rejection, and later on just recided to leaving LWJ alone, much to his pleasure. 2/?
💍AU: However, it seems that his betrothed's hatred for him was stronger than he thought and after the archery competition when he mistakenly took off LWJ's forehead ribbon and was met with the look of utter rage, he went back to LP with a broken alliance and a broken heart. JC, obviously couldn't be happier, not having to give WWX over to an ungrateful man like him and was extremely reluctant leaving WWX in the cave with him and the Xuanwu a couple weeks later. LWJ felt angry, being stuck 3/?
💍AU: (I'm not quite sure how I ended my last ask. Soz if this doesn't fit right) stuck in a cave with a resentful beast, but more so over the fact he's stuck with WWX of all people. But, nothing could have stopped the odd twist in his heart when WWX treated his leg over his own brand with minimal physical contact, "just the way my Lan Zhan like things" as he had said, and then proceeded to shuffle a couple metres away from him, giving LWJ the personal space he was so fond of but detested at 4/?
💍AU: that moment for the first time. He couldn't help but feel placed at the sight of WWX lightening up after he tried to converse some words with him, and then the drowning sense of fear washing over him when his former betrothed fell into the icy waters and never came back up. He wrote off his emotions as righteous worry untainted by any affection and refused to acknowledge the pounding warmth of his heart as he sang for the fevered boy and named his unconscious longing- 'Wangxian'. He 5/?
💍AU: told himself he didn't worry about the boy when he went missing for a painstaking 3 months, and then returned shrouded in darkness, resent and a dimmed light that seemed akin to a flicker compared to the way he used to glow back in their school days. Denial came first, and later, as WWX turned his back against him and JC claimed WWX's affiliation to the Jiang sect, he could do nothing but watch the near lifeless husk of what WWX had become and think with dull acceptance- "So this is 6/8
💍AU: what love feels like". LWJ deserved nothing from WWX. He realised that after one of their many arguements- he begged him to come back to Gusu, so he could protect what was left of his love, to give their future a chance. But he remembered the petty insults he threw WWX's way back in their youth in an attempt to shake him off, remembered the way WWX shriveled up at each remark, curling in on himself even more, yet chose to smile and see the best in LWJ. He deserved nothing, so he took 7/8
💍AU: WWX to the cave and held on, even through his whispers of 'Get Lost', through the 33 elders, through 33 lashes, until his brother told him his love was gone, and he couldn't hold onto the restraint, keeping his sorrow at bay, any longer. Living was tiring. Knowing that WWX was gone was draining, only A-Yuan seemed to tie him to the material world. So he felt a breath of life enter him, when he heard familiar noted out of a poorly crafted dizi, and vowed that this time he would not make 8/8
💍AU: the same mistakes again. He would fix the damage that he caused, rebuild the self-confidence he shattered. He knew WWX still loved him, LWJ saw it in his eyes, the way that foreign face but familiar grey irises looked up at him with adoration but resigned in a hopeless way WWX showed after their engagement was broken . This time he would love him, in all the ways he never did. 9/8 (This turned out really long and much less angsty at the end but I tried to add enough sadness in the middle)

This part really stood out to me, it’s an attitude I feel like wwx implies with his inner narration a few times but most clearly says here: he’s not one for allowing himself to exaggerate how bad his circumstances are/could be even a little bit - he’s already lived through some extreme low points and found a way to keep going, so he never makes sweeping statements about what he couldn’t live without (Inner JingYi: you’re supposed to say you’d be lost without him here!!!) Instead he seems to accept as a given that being alive doesn’t guarantee him any pleasantness or joy at all, and as a result his feelings toward being in TRUE LOVE are surprisingly pragmatic, but also colored with such gratitude. There are a lot of things in the novel that struck me, like this, as being just a little to the left of familiar tropes/sentiments, and were more touching for it. Whether it be the influence of culture difference as opposed to what I’m used to reading in most western romance stories, or MXTX’s unique outlook, or a combination of both, it was really refreshing and made me pause over it. Not “I can’t imagine living without you” but “I could be living without you, but instead I get to be with you and I think that’s the best thing that could happen.”

ahh... it’s a really good story. JGY is a great character. One of the most interesting differences for me between drama watching vs. novel reading experience is that without an actor to bat his vulnerable doe eyes at you and smile faintly with his cute dimples, the book does not go much out of its way to try to lull the reader into a false sense of security around him or *endear* him to you the way the show does. But just by seeing events through wei wuxian’s POV, its still enough to evoke pity or understanding towards him. The overall impression is a bit more detached though, there’s less emphasis on the spectacle of how he could manipulate everyone closest to him and more of a general feeling of resigned tragedy that everyones the worst on this bitch of an earth.

god... poor Jin Ling now basically has to deal with divorced parents that talk shit about each other to him whenever he is saying with one of them. except they are both his uncles. just a disasterhood of all uncles from start to finish. AUUUGH wei wuxian and jiang cheng have fucked me up completely, I dream of them reconciling but I also REFUSE to believe it would ever be easy. let me know if theres a fanfic that absolutely tortures you for decades before they hug

HE’S JUST GONNA TRY AS HARD AS HE CAN HIS WHOLE LIFE NOT TO LOOK AT HIM BUT THEYRE *MARRIED* SDLKFJSF ohhhh it’s too funny, like... the mundane domestic family drama IN the fantastical swords and sorcery setting is what really ratchets up these things from amusing to fucking hilarious I think
aaaa the end... final random thoughts? No not final, I would like to please keep discussing at length and exhaustively, all the time please - CQL has gotta be one of the best TV adaptations I’ve seen. ANY adaptation of anything would be lucky to be so good!! reading the novel has just made me appreciate it even more.
- I don’t think I can do justice to what I find most fascinating about comparing the two versions briefly, to do that I need to get drunk and ramble at my friends for hours but... the condensed version is something like this. Really all the significant differences between the two versions (besides the ones which can be attributed to censorship and therefore aren’t worth discussing) are a side effect of the structure of how the story is told - there’s barely anything changed arbitrarily. Aside from having a cold opening, the drama sticks to a very linear version of the story, and I think for a TV show or film, that’s probably the best way to do it. We see everything, we get shocked and tricked and betrayed and surprised along with the characters, we feel the biggest impact at the climactic scenes having experienced all the build-up. The novel on the other hand is not only much more non-linear in WHEN we learn bits and pieces of information, but that information is also obfuscated under wei wuxian’s multiple layers of Unreliable Narratoritis, which are as follows: 1) difficulty remembering things because of personality/avoiding painful memories/actual memory loss, 2) No Homo Goggles still on, and 3) a wry sense of humor that makes the reader unsure of how much they can trust his attitude toward things, especially near the beginning. The experience of reading is a puzzle the reader has to mentally piece together through all of the above listed camouflage, and the puzzle itself is a three-sided mystery: One - How Bad of a guy was Wei WuXian really, and how exactly did all the bad stuff in his life go down; Two - wangxian epic pride & prejudice gambits; Three - political murder mystery. (I love stories like this btw... though I fully admit I’m glad I watched first this time bc it might have taken me a long time to tackle otherwise.) Because of this, where the drama wants to pull you in and submerge you in all the most potent emotional parts, the novel in direct contrast deliberately side-steps around these things and asks that you hurt yourself by filling in the blanks. In fact the more intense emotions and painful memories involved, whether it be his relationship with jiang yanli, his DEATH, the darkest days of war times etc, the more the novel evasively withholds details. I actually really like both styles of storytelling but each one is obviously way better suited to its medium. ANYWAY.... THATS BASICALLY WHERE MY BRAINS AT WHILE IM READING GAY SWORD WIZARD BOOKS
- The extras are so saturated with domestic married bliss that it’s a good thing I stopped taking pictures because I’d just take a picture of every page. this is too much for me to take... I did jump the gun a few times and read a few fanfics while I was still mid-read of the book (I tried to hold out but alas I am mortal) and at one point after finishing I was like “wow what fic was it in where lwj says something cute and wwx kisses him in public but they’re in the corner of the restaurant so no one really sees... OH NO WAIT that was actually in there.” and ... and that’s the LEAST OF IT... *stares into the distance* theyre married wow
- I ofc couldn’t help but see a few vague blogs beforehand so honestly I was braced for something like, wildly ooc for the sake of porn to happen in the extras... I definitely appreciate how the incense burner porn interludes could be uhhh a lot for many people and not my personal cup of tea in terms of smut however [here follows the words of a poisonous frog who has dwelt her whole life in the rainforests of BL] the concept is also surprisingly SWEET SDFLKJF like wwx sees lan wangji’s darkest mixed-up violent teenage fantasies and he’s just like aww babe you had a crush on me!! just... good for them

it’s that time of the year again, so. annual writing round-up, let’s go:
according to AO3, i have posted 14 fics this year, totalling 51k words. average word count has risen from 2.5k last year to 3.6k, which...is probably thanks to the mdzs college au (which btw @pumpkinpaix​ has done a fantastic podfic of and it’s so?? good?? so even if you don’t read the fic, have a listen to her podfic!!) and the guardian lawyer au lbr. 
longest fic i wrote this year was the mdzs college au, the moon lives in the lining of your skin (9143 words); the shortest was a jack/zz drabble, fortune (936).
as with last year, this year was also a very cdrama-focused writing year! i continued writing for Guardian (i.......still have so many wips i want to finish for this fandom, rip me), and added H3, The Untamed and Original Sin into the mix. 
1 of 14 fics was for Original Sin, being a short fix-it that was mostly fluffy.
2 of 14 fics was for Guardian, which is a little disappointing because i have so many wips that i wanted to finish this year. oh well. i’ll have a couple of days once i get back to auckland to possibly rewatch a couple of choice episodes and cry over weilan for a bit, and then be spurred into writing more guardian fics??? both fics were weilan. the more popular fic (by 2 kudos!) was third time's the charm, the abo au ft. mildly jealous!shen wei ahahaha. (side note: i think this was the fic that set my “sweetheart” thing off.)
5 of 14 fics was for H3: Trapped, 2 tangfei and 3 jack/zz. the most popular of which was amuse bouche, aka the jack cooks his way into zhao zi’s heart fic. that’s also my personal favourite! :D
6 of 14 fics was for The Untamed/MDZS, all of which were wangxian. the most popular being since then i am because you are, aka the 什么是plot什么是backstory au where the yiling patriarch needs to marry for an alliance. i am honestly most surprised at the reception this fic has received tbh, considering its length and lack of....basically everything except dumb pining wangxian ahahahaha.
this is also the year i’ve started writing tumblr askbox ficlets again, which i haven’t really done much of since the height of my les mis days. i’ve had a look through the tag, and there’s about 8 pages worth of ficlets, so approx. 120 ficlets! 
i won’t do a word count for all of the ficlets because hahahahaha that’s too much effort for a roundup post, but! most of them are for the wilful blindness verse (74 ficlets so far what in the fuck) which, according to rough calculations, has already spanned 35k words over the last 4 months, making it p much the longest thing i have ever written, and i haven’t even “officially” started writing it yet tbh???
les mis buddies!!! i know i, again, have not filled my one exr fic on ao3 quota, but i did write around 2? 3? ficlets??? you might have to search back in the ficlets tag, but i think i did them all around the same time, so around when i did the writing about kisses meme in may?? the most popular one was this oblivious!grantaire ficlet, which is not surprising because it’s a tried and true favourite of mine to write!
i feel like everything i’ve written this year have mostly a decent balance between fluff and sads? i’m even leaning more towards writing fluff now, so we’ll consider this rebranding a success.
my favourite to write this year has been wilful blindness, mostly because it’s easy and relatively low-commitment and fun? strong contender for second is tonight i can write the saddest lines, the amnesiac!lwj au, just because it flowed out of me really easily and took the least time to complete.
i have, tragically, not really finished any of the wips i set out to finish this year. my wip folder has only grown, although a couple of them i’ve finally moved to the “abandoned” folder (this includes the historical jack/zz au that i really wanted to write, but i feel like i’ve moved on from this ship? idk idk. the bare bones of the fic are still there, just in case i ever feel like picking it up again). 
there are a couple of guardian fics that i really want to pick up and finish, and at least 4 mdzs fics that are 75% done and should be completed in the first quarter of 2020! it’s been a good writing year, considering all things. i think the last time i wrote this much was back in......2015 (ao3 says i wrote about 78k words then) when i was still in uni, and it feels good to have such an outlet again!

XiCheng performers AU pt. 5
with more Lan Xichen, as promised! ^^

Lan Xichen doesn’t perform on his xiao or anything (which, to Jiang Cheng, is really a waste bc he’s just so goddamn amazing on it), but he plays it for his own enjoyment often, especially when he’s stressed out
and he doesn’t think too much of it or anything
so needless to say, he was caught off-guard one day when he arrived at his usual music practice room and sees a note that says something along the lines of
“you sound really beautiful”
he gets really curious (and kind of flustered too, bc the only people who’d ever really heard him play are his family members and mostly Lan Wangji, and ofc since they’re family they don’t really compliment each other that way?)
so he tries to figure out who left the note
at first, he thought it was a girl since the note is written on a piece of scented purple sticky note, and the handwriting was not bad
but then he thought he recognized that same handwriting a few weeks later, when he’s almost forgotten about the note
it was on the sheet people would sign if they want to reserve the dance studio, although LXC has noticed no one ever signs it except for this Jiang Wanyin, who he assumes is the girl who has left the note
so, to test his theory out, he starts going to a practice room that’s closer to the dance studio
he notices that at first, music is still being played from the speakers in the studio, but then is turned off once he starts playing his xiao
LXC is not that interested in getting a girlfriend, but he does want to know who this Wanyin is, so for that day he stays back late and plays until he sees the lights in the studio go off
the doors open, and to his surprise, a guy steps out
oh, that’s right, doesn’t LWJ’s boyfriend have adoptive siblings from the Jiang family?
LXC wasn’t sure if that was Jiang Wanyin, or if any of Wei Wuxian’s siblings danced — but what he was sure of was that they made eye contact, that the guy blushed and hurried away, and that he himself was beginning to feel really, really warm inside
so for the next week or so, LXC would arrive early to make sure he gets that music room, and would not leave until he saw the lights in the dance studio go off. no music was coming out from the studio speakers anymore, so LXC tires himself out playing every day, but he honestly doesn’t mind it
and he doesn’t mind either, when one day before he could settle down in his music room, the doors to the dance studio opened and out poked WY’s gorgeous face,
“would you like to come inside?”
“into the dance studio, you mean?”
“ah, yeah.”
LXC rarely passes up a chance for mischief, “for what?”
WY stutters for a second, “well... well, you don’t have to. i just thought... if you don’t mind, i would love to hear you play up close.”
“and i was waiting for an invitation via sticky note, but i guess this will do too.”
WY’s face, if it wasn’t red from exercising before, is definitely red now — but he manages, “it’s true. your playing is beautiful.”
LXC thanks him, but he doesn’t really think much of it, until he realizes how rarely WY uses a word like “beautiful” to describe his own dancing
which breaks his heart, really, bc LXC thinks WY’s dancing is nothing short of phenomenal
truth be told, during that first day both of them were either too flustered or too engrossed in their own performances to ask for the other’s name, until they were about to leave and LXC notices WY putting his name onto the studio sign-up sheet again
“what can i call you?”
“Wanyin...” WY starts, but then pauses, “but no one uses that name anyway... so, um, Jiang Cheng is fine.”
“alright then, Jiang Cheng,” LXC smiles as he tests the name out on his tongue, “would you mind putting Lan Xichen down alongside Jiang Wanyin? i think i will be coming tomorrow as well. that is, if you don’t mind.”
JC beams at him, the first of many smiles that will make LXC’s breath halt just a little, “not at all. not at all.”
(JC took the purple scented sticky note from Jiang Yanli btw, and LXC may or may not still have it)

Deaged!LWJ PART 2
Sorry for the wait but I hope y’all enjoy it!
By the time the sun started creeping down into the horizon, they came into town again. Although Wei Ying spotted several comfortable inns, he passed them, choosing instead for one smaller and more modest. He is spending Lan Zhan’s money after all, and while he knew that the other wouldn’t mind, he still didn’t like doing it while he was stuck as a child and couldn’t give him his approval. 
He rented a room quickly, and with a glance at Lan Zhan who won’t stop yawning, he decided to bring dinner up to their room too. 
He even only orders one jar of Emperor’s Smile for him to drink. Not that that would save him from the small child’s judgment. At least Wei Ying was older than him at the moment, so the child didn’t try and scold him. 
Although Wei Ying thought, it would be hilarious to see him so small trying to scold him. He chuckled just at the idea of it.
He chats carelessly during dinner, not expecting any response for Lan Zhan and not receiving any, other than concerned looks that he was so easily speaking during a meal for no reason. 
Once they had finished and the dishes had been cleared, Wei Ying was about ready to undress and crawl into his bed. However, he was instructed by a nervous tug on his robes from Lan Zhan.
“What is it?”
“The Jingshi… can we go once we get back?” His voice was soft and hopefull, but the boy looked nervous as if he was convinced that he would be scolded for asking the question. 
“Of course!” he smiles.
Lan Zhan brightness instantly, a smile gracing his face. “I can see my mother?”
In a split second, Wei Ying realized the mistake he made. “A-ah…” He looks away from the hopeful child. How was he supposed to tell something like this to a kid? He wished for a second, that Wen Qing was there. 
She always managed to explain to A-Yuan when Wei Ying had messed something up, or the moments when he was too upset to properly explain the situation to the child…
But that was a long time ago. Wei Ying had to do this and do it as best as he could for Lan Zhan.
“Lan Zhan, I… I can’t let you see your mother, I’m sorry. She’s not there.”
The happy look was quickly wiped off of his face. Lan Zhan’s momentarily bright eyes dulled again, and quickly he looked down. “Oh.” was all he said. He wasn’t making any noise, but his shoulders were trembling as he stared at the floor and Wei Ying could feel his heart break. “Everyone says she’s gone away,” The boy said quietly. 
He grimaced at the words but nodded. “She has.”
“Why won’t she come back?” 
Wei Ying takes a bracing breath. “She can’t, she’s dead, Lan Zhan.”
The troubled, confused look didn’t vanish from his face, but Lan Zhan didn’t ask any other questions. Instead, he just looked towards the floor, small hands clenched until his knuckles were white by his sides. 
Wei Ying watched, frozen. He wasn’t sure how to comfort him, and in that moment he couldn’t even think of a joke or something to distract him from the sorrow he must be feeling. It wouldn’t be right to try, anyway.
But then, sobs came from the trembling boy, shaking his small body and muffled by a mouth that seemed determined to quiet the sounds completely. 
The sound spurred him into action, and quickly he pulled Lan Zhan onto his lap, hugging him firmly. 
“Sorry!” Lan Zhan managed to squeak out in between gasping sobs. 
Wei Ying shook his head. He can feel his heart physically shatter into individual pieces at the sight and the sound of his precious Lan Zhan having to feel this kind of pain when he was so young. Did anyone let him cry like this? It didn’t seem like it, with the guilty way he hung his head.
It wasn’t as if Wei Ying had the ideal childhood, but at least when he was this sad he could cry, could be comforted by his shijie. “You miss her, right?” Wei Ying spoke softly.
Lan Zhan hesitated but gave the slightest of nods.
“Then don’t be sorry,” he said firmly. “Even I miss people! I lost my parents. I miss my mother too. A lot,” he admitted. Lan Zhan’s eyes were on him, wide and golden. “I miss my sister too. I’ve cried for all of them.” In fact, Wei Ying felt a familiar tightness in his throat and stinging in his eyes just having mentioned them.
 He took a deep breath. He didn’t need to make little Lan Zhan more upset with his own troubles. “It’s not bad to cry. It just shows how much you care for them. How good your heart is, right?” Wei Ying smiled in encouragement. 
Lan Zhan seemed to consider this, eyes flickering down. His fists were now clutching the black fabric of Wei Ying’s out robe. “That makes sense,” He agreed, blinking up at Wei Ying, trust replacing the confusion in his gaze.
“Right! That’s why, a lot of the time, the rules are bullshit.” Wei Ying’s tone was light, although his point wasn’t necessarily all a joke. 
Instead of responding to him, Lan Zhan simply rested his head on one of the arms Wei Ying had wrapped around his small body. 
Within a minute, he was asleep. It was nine.
Wei Ying smiled fondly at the sight, not wanting to move too soon and disturb him. Once he was sure that Lan Zhan was completely asleep, he carefully stood up, lifting the boy with him. He stirred, but didn’t wake. 
Slowly, he walked to the bed. He set Lan Zhan down gently, making sure his head rested on the pillow just so, knowing that if he slept improperly his neck would most likely hurt the next morning. 
Lan Zhan’s small hands were still clinging onto him. He released the fabric from the child’s grip with care, pleased when he didn’t seem to notice it in his sleep. Gently, he pulled the blanket over the sleeping boy as well.
The sight of him sleeping, as usual, was peaceful. Lan Zhan was innocent and unbothered in his sleep, and the sight of him so little was heartwarming, especially considering the exhausting day he must have had. 
Even he was tired, Wei Ying realized, although for him it was still early in the night. Deciding it was best if they got an early start tomorrow anyway, he decided to sleep as well.
The bed felt… cold. 
It’s not as if he was unused to going places without his husband or even sleeping in much less comfortable places than where he was currently. And Lan Zhan wasn’t gone, he was in the same inn room as him, safe. But Wei Ying missed him.
He slept early, tired and still recovering from the energy he’d used during the night hunt. But he was restless, never slipping into a deeper sleep. 
When he woke early in the morning, just as the sun’s rays were starting to creep into the inn’s windows, he barely felt like he’d rested at all. 
Without much fuss or speaking, he got ready for the day, little Lan Zhan right behind him - although he needed to be woken up, he was clearly still used to rising so early. 
Lan Zhan seemed to notice his silence but didn’t comment, just sticking closer to Wei Ying and they walked through the town. His own mood seemed to be better than the day before, at least. 
Wei Ying noticed him looking around with interest, drinking in the sights and the people who were already awake and working. 
“Wei Ying.” 
“Hm?” He looked down to find the boy peering right up at him, face earnest. “What is it?”
“What you said last night…” Lan Zhan’s eyebrows creased. “You should respect the rules,” he stated firmly. 
Wei Ying found his mouth opening, and he quickly pressed his lips together tightly, eyebrows raised high as he tried not to laugh. How can a little kid look so harsh and serious?! It’s too similar to the expression he often wore way back when he had been attending lectures at the Cloud Recess as a disciple. 
“All right, Lan Zhan,” he said breathily, a small chuckle escaping into his voice. The child glared at him, and Wei Ying found himself shaking, laughing silently in an attempt not to offend Lan Zhan anymore.
It didn’t seem to work.
Instead, the boy focused himself more on looking around the town on their way. Wei Ying noticed how his gaze would always be caught longer by the merchants selling toys on the streets, although he didn’t look to Wei Ying to ask for anything.
They passed a particularly big stall, with many bright, colorful items and he noticed Lan Zhan mostly ignored the flashy trinkets to look at the set of bamboo dragonflies. 
“Lan Zhan, do you want one?” Wei Ying asked. 
Lan Zhan immediately looked straight ahead, blushing as he shook his head. “No,” he insisted.
This time, Wei Ying didn’t hold back his laugh. It was light, and not unkind, but Lan Zhan watched him in horror as he walked up to the merchant, picked the toy up and paid for it, handing it to the boy. 
“We have most of the day left to walk, why shouldn’t you play with it a bit, hm, Lan Zhan?” Wei Ying’s voice was gentle and encouraging.
While his face was still red with embarrassment, Lan Zhan nodded, twirling the toy in his hands gently. 
Wei Ying smiled brightly. 
They quickly left town, traveling on the road to Cloud Recess. It was well-worn and familiar to Wei Ying, although he imagined for this Lan Zhan it was less so. He had to walk slower with a little kid trailing behind, but all things considering they would still most likely arrive before evening.
When they took breaks for water or to eat, Wei Ying was happy to see Lan Zhan play with the toy he’d bought him, letting it twirl in the air as it fell down and he caught it again. 
For such a calm kid, he definitely didn’t lack in energy, he noted.
About an hour after they had stopped to eat lunch, they arrived at the gates of cloud recess. Wei Ying’s carefree attitude changed.
He walked through quickly, not stopping to greet anyone like usual, and ignoring the questions about who the child was or where Lan Zhan had gone.
The poor younger Lan Zhan looked just as confused, not recognizing so many people, or even the changes that seemed to have happened overnight in his home.
Wei Ying just wanted to his - their older brother now, technically, however weird it was thinking to himself that he had Zewu-Jun as an in-law - as fast as possible. 
He was walking so quickly with Lan Zhan in tow that he almost ran straight into him as he turned a corner. 
“Lan Xichen!” He greeted.
“Wei Wuxian,” came the much calmer reply. Quickly though, he noticed the child holding on to his hand. His brow creased in confusion, slight recognition on his face. “Is that...?”
“Lan Zhan,” He confirmed. 
In an instant, Lan Xichen was kneeling down to look at his younger brother. “Lan Zhan? It’s me, Lan Huan.”
Lan Zhan looks to Wei Ying, bewildered, and Wei Ying can only nod. “Something happened with the creature we were fighting. It was… it wasn’t anything I’d seen before. I don’t know how, but Lan Zhan got stuck like this.”
A soft blue glow came from Lan Xichen’s fingertips as he assessed the situation. The silence was tense, Lan Zhan confused but all too trusting, and Wei Ying all too apprehensive to find out what had gone wrong.
Lan XIchen’s frowned. “I can’t say how… but he has a clear lack of spiritual energy. It seems his body and mind have tried to make up for it like this, I’ve just never seen anything like it before.”
“Can he go back to normal?”
Lan Xichen nods. “It seems like the kind of curse that will fade on its own after he regains his spiritual energy.”
“But we could speed it up then, by giving him more?” 
He nodded. “It would be quite a large amount, but with everyone here, we can finish it tonight. At least, if it’s what I suspect…”
Wei Ying released a breath he didn’t realize he was holding, letting some of the tension fall out of his shoulders. 
Lan Zhan seemed to have tuned out of their adult talk, fiddling with the toy still in his left hand.
“Lan Zhan, do you trust me?” Lan Xichen asked.
Lan Zhan looked up at his big brother, who was much bigger than he should be to the child, but he nodded. “Yes,” He said. 
Lan Xichen smiled. “Good. Come with me then.” The child nodded again, and he stood back up. Wei Ying went to follow the two of them but Lan Xichen shot him an apologetic look. 
“Ah, I guess I’d be in the way then,” Wei Ying said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. 
“It might be for the best if you got some rest,” Lan Xichen agreed, taking ahold of Lan Zhan’s hand.
Wei Ying watched the two of them walk off.
He wasn’t an outsider here, not after marrying Lan Zhan, but in that moment he felt like one. He stood there helplessly for a few minutes more before sighing, turning, and walking dejectedly to his and Lan Zhan’s room.
Of course, he wouldn’t be able to rest.
It was not even the evening yet, and he knew they probably wouldn’t be finished before dinner. Maybe even not until after curfew. If transferring energy was all it took because no one seemed to really understand why Lan Zhan had suddenly turned into a little kid.
He tugged at his hair in frustration. He couldn’t help, and he was pretty sure he was unofficially meant to stay on house arrest at the moment so he wouldn’t sneak around and check on Lan Zhan. 
Knowing Lan XIchen, he would have told any disciples that saw him to gently remind him to get some rest and not wander around. 
Wei Ying sighed, leaning back at the desk he and Lan Zhan shared. That was mostly Lan Zhan’s, as Wei Ying used it only on occasion, perfectly content to spread his work on the floor and write there as well.
Write. That, at least, was something he could do. No one had a full account yet, and even Wei Ying felt fuzzy on the details, although he never had the best memory in the first place. But if this was truly some new threat that no one had even heard of before, everyone would want as many details as possible.
So with that new goal to distract him, Wei Ying gathered paper and writing supplies, laid them on the desk, and got to work. 
His handwriting was sloppy, notes turned into sentences and ideas that he added to almost without any structure. His work was always chaotic as he came up with new ideas and remembered details as he was going.
Lan Zhan often helped him refine it in another draft in which Wei Ying made his handwriting much neater. But he would need his help to describe what happened after Wei Ying had passed out from harnessing so much resentful energy anyway. 
He works until it is dark, and quickly lights a candle so he can write more, coming up with ideas and theories of what might have happened and writing them so they made any sense at all. He leaned on the desk, probable smugging some ink with his hand and didn’t pause at all until he heard the door slide open and footsteps approach.
Quickly he looked up, face quickly turning bright with a smile. 
“Wei Ying,” said Lan Zhan, looking at him with a warmth in his eyes.
“Lan Zhan! Lan Zhan, oh, I didn’t know if they’d get you back!” He spoke while scrambling up and over to his husband. He practically threw himself onto the man, wincing when Lan Zhan stumbled from the force. “Ah, I guess you must still be a little out of it, right?”
“Mn,” he confirmed. Wei Ying bit back an apology, because Lan Zhan was hugging him back, and that’s all he wanted to focus on. “Wei Ying was worried,” he said, and it really wasn’t a question. 
“Of course. No one else goes around and gets turned into a kid, Lan Zhan. It was scary! Ah, but at least you were such an adorable child!”
Wei Ying feels more than hears Lan Zhan’s laugh. “Thank you.”
“Hm?” Wei Ying pulls away from the hug to look at his husband. He still had a trace of a smile on his face, although his eyes looked a bit red and watery. He isn’t surprised Lan Zhan might feel emotional at the moment. “Why are you thanking me?”
“I needed someone to say those things back then to me,” he stated simply. 
Wei Ying looks down. “Ah, I wasn’t even sure if you’d remember,” he admitted.
Wei Ying feels Lan Zhan’s calloused hand on his cheek. He looks up and sees about a thousand things in Lan Zhan’s eyes. Love, gratitude, sorrow, happiness, it’s all too much to look at. 
So he doesn’t. Instead, he pressed his lips to Lan Zhan, delighting in the way the man relaxes into him.

The Untamed (陈情令) Review: Ep 30
!!! SPOILERS AHEAD !!!
Previous episode review: 1 and 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16,17, 18,19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29. 
Expectations: The Yiling Patriarch is delving into the dark arts and the Ghost General is killing people mindlessly. Reality: The Yiling Patriarch is barter-trading a radish for a compass with a Yiling Patriarch cosplayer / snake oil salesman and the Ghost General is (nervously) trying to sell radishes. XD
Poor WN... JC didn’t HAVE to slam the door in his face like that. -_-’’
JC is here! And JYL too! The Jiang siblings are (briefly) united again!!! :):):)
WHY IS JC SO TSUN WHEN HE SAW WWX’S REACTION AT SEEING JYL IN HER WEDDING GET-UP OMG. “What? You think she is going to marry you?”
On a side note, I was kinda amused at how both JYL and JC up-ped their fashion game when they came to Yiling to see WWX even though they were trying to keep a low profile. Like OK, JYL was in a black cloak which hid her wedding get-up but JC didn’t have a cloak on and was dressed in a fairly showy manner (for him I mean)...?
More JC Tsun-ness! JC was the one who suggested that WWX give JL his courtesy name AND he immediately shoots down WWX’s suggestion of “Jin Rulan” by complaining that the name sounds like it is associated with the Lan sect. -_-’’
JYL offering a bowl of the lotus soup, which she brought for WWX and JC, to WN just makes what would eventually happen angst-ier than it already is. :(
All the bickering and (awkward) displays of concern between the Yunmeng Twin Heroes will never get old. Heh. “Here’s to the Yiling Patriarch!” “[chokes] You shut your mouth!” “... How’s your injury from the last time?” “I’ve already recovered from it.” “How many days did it take you to recover?” “Just 7 days. You know me, a small injury like that isn’t going to bring me down.  But... you really did a fine job of stabbing me...” “You were the one who cut my arm first! You took 7 days to recover; I had my arm in a sling for a month!”
WWX trying to grow lotuses in the Burial Mounds was probably the most bittersweet part of the episode. Like you could SEE how WWX’s desperation when the lotuses weren’t growing (and when A-Yuan plucked the only seedling which appeared) reflected his despair at losing the only link to Lotus Pier which he had left. Plus it was kinda cool how this reflected the happier parallel of JZX planting lotuses at Koi Tower for JYL in episode 28...
How is that the live-action JGS is even MORE slimy than the one in the novel?! The more polished / presentable JGY is, the more JGS doesn’t trust him?! If JGY weren’t polished / presentable, then there would be slurs being thrown about him being the lowly son of a prostitute or something like that, right??? What does JGS even want from JGY??? Oh and don’t even get me started on how JGS refused to let JGY carry JL! :(:(:(
God, I loved how LWJ owned the scene at Koi Tower even in the short time which he appeared in this episode. He suggested that WWX be invited to JL’s Full Month Celebration AND gave Jin Zixuan literally no face in rebutting him??? Novel!LWJ gotta take some notes from Live-action!LWJ. Haha. 
Also loved how quickly JGY changed his position on WWX being invited to JL’s Full Month Celebration RIGHT AFTER he heard LXC speaking up in support of inviting WWX if WWX was sincere in turning over a new leaf. JGY literally went from saying, “Hanguang-jun means well. However, this may not be appropriate.” to going, “It is true that I do not appear to have heard of the Yiling Patriarch committing any evil. Even the Stygian Tiger Seal has disappeared without a trace.” Ohh, JGY, your crush on LXC is showing. Heh. PLUS THIS PARALLELED HOW IN ONE OF THE EARLIER EPISODES, NMJ DID A 360 ON HOW TO DEAL WITH THE WEN SECT REMNANTS AFTER HE SAW LXC LOOKING UPSET AT HIS ORIGINAL STANCE. HOLY SHIT.
LXC’s tiny smile when JGY asked LWJ to help deliver the invitation to WWX was just-! LXC, did you sorta-kinda plan on having this happen??? ;)
On a side-side note, it was nice to see the parallels between WWX and JGY in the second half or so of this episode where the show kept jumping back and forth between what they were doing. Like WWX was trying to re-create Lotus Pier at the Burial Mounds by planting the lotuses and JGY was trying to gain his father’s approval at Koi Tower by being a good right-hand man. But basically, both of them were displaced individuals trying to create a sense of belonging in their new homes. 
Overall: 10/10. 110% would watch again for all the great lines and fluff. Despite it being a fairly filler-y episode. AND despite JGS being an ass for the entire time that he appeared on screen. Probably because we all know how things eventually ended for JGS. Hahaha.

1/ >mpreg< wrh won the sunshot campaign, but both his sons still die, so he wants to be repaid. he demands a chosen bride from each sect for his harem and so nhs, jgy, lxc, and even jyl (who is married and left jl as an orphan bc jzx died during the war) and wwx.. he especially wants wwx and so he keeps him separate from the rest, seals his power and brainwashed him, turning him into a pliant bedwarmer whose only job is to provide wrh with more children.
2/ >mpreg< wrh made sure to control his new harem with a tight leash, going so far as to damage their golden cores to weaken them. lwj is going mad bc not only his brother but also his beloved wei ying were taken away to serve wrh. he tried to reach out to other sects, asking them to cooperate to take their hostages back but none of the sects were brave or strong enough to go against wrh, especially after the devastating war.
3/ >mpreg< after thirteen years of gathering intel and strength as well as countless failed infiltration missions, lwj has had enough of it and decided to sneak into nightless city himself. he managed to find his brother and nhs but there were no signs of the others. it broke his heart to see the swollen stomach of his brother as he told him that none of them had seen wwx since he was first taken in. wwx is wrh's favorite, birthing the most children for him out of all of them.
4/ >mpreg< nightless city was crawling with children who look like wrh. lwj told lxc that he's making a plan to help all of them escape. lxc was scared for his children, but didn't object. wrh found out abt lwj sneaking into his castle, but kept hush abt it bc he wants lwj to suffer more. he threatened lxc to act like he was going along with the plan and telling wrh everything or he's going to kill their youngest toddler. he could just put a new one in him, anyway.
5/ >mpreg< lxc just prayed lwj would have enough time to escape when their escape plan fail later. after about a week of hiding in nightless city, lwj stumbled upon a restricted area. he managed to sneak in and he was horrified to find wwx inside, heavily pregnant, but without an ounce of discontent on his face, in fact he looked overjoyed. the man was calmly combing his hair while humming to himself. lwj was so shocked he accidentally made a noise that alerted wei ying of his presence.
6/ >mpreg< "who's there?" wwx immediately grabbed a hairpin for self defense but relaxed when his eyes found it was just lwj. "oh hi lan zhan" he was smiling but it was so unsettling. "why do you hv to sneak in like a mouse? my a-yuan can do better than that when he was five" lwj couldnt move, couldnt say anything. "lan zhan? what's wrong? we haven't met for many years and the first thing you do is sneak into my room and frown at me?"
7/ >mpreg< "wei ying. have to get you out of here" lwj finally uttered. "what? why?" lwj couldnt believe his ears. "why would i want to leave master ruohan and our children?" lwj wished he could just die on the spot. "but- he forced you and the others-" "forced? what are you talking about?" lwj saw wwx was getting agitated and it unnerved him to no end. "if youre coming here just to disturb me then just go!" wwx's voice was getting louder and lwj has no choice but to leave before he was found
8/ >mpreg< a couple weeks later, lwj finally managed to get the last of his plans taken care of. he made a huge distraction that allowed wrh's harem to flee to their designated meeting spot (they came right back in after but lwj never knew that). they could bring the smaller children with their mothers but they would have to leave the older children behind since wrh had had his influence on them already. the only one left was wei ying. he had to get wei ying back no matter what.
9/ >mpreg< lwj didnt care if he would only be able to take wei ying or if wei ying was going to hate him. he couldnt let wei ying go again. he inched closer to wwx's living quarters and he barely got a greeting in before the maidservants announced wrh's arrival. wwx immediately told lwj to hide in his room. wrh came in and wwx all but jumped into his arms. lwj could see everything. he could see wrh kissing he face he dreamt of kissing for so many years, touching the body he dreamt of touching for so many years.
10/ >mpreg< lwj ended up hiding for a good portion of the whole day, trying to close his ears as he heard sounds he once dreamt wei ying would let out only for him. swallowing his own tears as wwx begs wrh to ravish him. wrh didnt leave until wwx woke up from his nap. when he deemed it safe enough, lwj sneaks back out, still wrecking his brain trying to think of ways to convince wwx to leave with him. "wei ying, come back to gusu with me, please" wwx pouts, shaking his head. "im not going anywhere, get lost!" "wei ying please" lwj tried approaching wwx, but he just kept backing away. "get lost!"
11/ >mpreg< lwj kept pushing, maybe if he could just <i>touch</i> wei ying, he could identify and undo whatever spell wrh did on wei ying. wwx kept backing away, replying to all of lwj's pleas with 'get lost'. he wasnt going to let this man who he hadnt seen for so long take everything away from him. soon, there was no more space for wwx to retreat to, trapped between lwj's approaching form and his vanity table. he grabbed a hairpin and swung, slashing lwj's perfect face. blood dripped on the floor, but lwj couldnt care less, not when wei ying is inches away from him. he <i>had</i> to have wei ying back.
12/ >mpreg< lwj was prepared to just hit wwx's pressure points to render him unconscious and carry him outside, his pregnancy be damned, but before he could, wei ying was already screaming. "a-yuan!" it took mere seconds before the door slammed open, revealing a teenager with a sword in his hand. he had wei ying's eyes. he could recognize that shade of silver anywhere, but the glint of malice there was unmistakably wen ruohan's. the teenager charged at lwj, who was caught off guard and it took no time before lwj was subdued and bleeding, kneeling by wwx's bed with the teenager's foot keeping him still. "scum! you dare try to harm my mother?!"
13/ >mpreg< "would never try to harm wei ying.. only want wei ying back" lwj croaks. "preposterous!" wei ying's son (a-yuan, lwj's mind provided) barked. "who do you think you are, to boldly lay claim on my mother? you deserve death for this!" lwj didnt respond. he was focused on wwx sitting in front of him, caressing his baby bump lovingly, creating an image of heavenly bliss, but everything in lwj screamed that it was <i>wrong- wrong, wrong, wei ying is</i> "lan zhan" lwj's world stopped.
14/ >mpreg< wwx looked at lwj in the eyes. his eyes look sad. disappointed. <i>at wangji</i> "why do you keep antagonizing me? back then you kept telling me that i was wrong, kept telling me how i was supposed to be. i know you didnt like me before and i left you alone. now youre here pestering me, as if i have no mind of my own to think and feel. and you ask me to leave with you?never," wwx's eyes hardened with grievance. "i suggest you leave immediately and maybe you'll get to keep your life" lwj's eyes widen. <i>wei ying misunderstood, must tell him- </i> "no, wei ying, youre under a spell. wei ying would never-" lwj wheezed as a sharp kick hit his back. "shut up!" wen yuan growled, "if i hear you speak rubbish one more time i would-" "a-yuan" wwx interrupted. "wen yuan, my beloved firstborn, it's okay. mother's got this," he gave his son an assuring look. then he shifted his gaze back to lwj. "lan zhan, im not under any spell. i really do belong here. you can check" wwx held out one hand for lwj to touch. lwj desperately took the hand. he wanted to relish in the softness of skin at first, the warmth he longed for, but quickly decided something was more important. he checked wwx's meridians, his qi pathways. lwj paled. he could feel nothing.
15/ >mpreg< "why" all the breath left lwj. "wei ying, he- he made you birth so many children, kept you locked here-" wwx's brows arched. 16/ >mpreg< <i>wei ying, his wei ying, his heart, his soulmate, loves-?</i> "i love master ruohan, the father of my children. if he wants me to stay, i will stay. if he wants me to go, i will go. but you, you dont get a say" lwj heaved as wwx pulled his hand back, his heart too heavy and his head too painful. "ah, my bad" wwx gave lwj a side eye. "you know to much now" lwj swore he could saw wwx smirk at wen yuan but nothing mattered anymore. lwj gasped when a sword pierced his chest but it was a welcome pain to numb his aching soul. "just so you know," wwx's eyes glinted with glee as he bends down in a mock attempt to whisper into lwj's ear. "i love being pregnant. i beg master ruohan to breed me again even a few weeks after giving birth. im never going to stop, i cant stop," he giggled and lwj was somehow relieved that wwx's laughter was the last thing he heard before everything dissolved into nothing.
[ending notes] back in gusu, just as everyone was busy with the absence of their sect leader, only a letter came a few days later with a familiar red seal and a bloody headband. someone tried to violate a member of wen ruohan's harem and the perpetrator has been dealt with accordingly. their sect leader never returned.
