I was looking at the line work you do and was wondering: do you ink it physically and then scan it, or is it fully digital? It's really good and gives a solid grit to it and adds texture to your works. How do you do that?

99% of what I post here is all digital because I don’t really have access to a scanner very often! my inking style looks the way it does because I draw traditionally in my sketchbooks a LOT and the way I ink digitally is Exactly The Same as I do traditionally (which is why you see a lot of double lines in my inking, stray lines, or scribbling when I fill in solid blacks without the fill tool, I also always turn off any stabilization features a brush might have bc I don’t like the way it feels) and I often go looking for brushes that are gritty or crunchy so that it looks similar to the pens I use on paper!

You can see a bunch of the stray lines and general scribbling I did here, which is exactly what my irl sketchbooks look like, and the circled brushes (I edited these after I downloaded them all to have 0 stabilization) are the ones I used for it!

#I consider myself a traditional tools artist first and digital second so I frequently use traditional drawing techniques but. uh #make it digital??#Wendy Xu has a flex nib brush that I grabbed when it was free that feels exactly like the flex nib pen I use so that’s the other one #I like dead line weights a lot tho so these brushes (above) are really fun to me #I have HUGE respect for people that do really clean and smooth line art and I love looking at it but I simply cannot stand it for #my own stuff. feels Wrong and Not Fun and low key kind of unrecognizable when I look at it after #ask tag #basically my whole digital art experience is trying to recreate my traditional art experience in some way. I’m on a constant #journey attempting to accomplish it #I also add a noise effect to the flat colors (between 5-7%) to mimic a paper ish texture

I keep putting off talking about my elesa headcanons, but i just have to say that my version of Elesa uses she/he pronouns. i just think she's neat and can be a little transmasc as a treat.

Hey y'all! I want to experiment with a new (to me) plushie pattern making technique*, but I'm not sure what I want to make with it. What complex plushies would you suggest? *it's the one where you make a 3D model out of crumpled paper or other objects and like masking tape around it, then draw on lines for the pieces, cut out the pieces, and add darts. I've considered doing it before but didn't want to crumple up that much paper on a technique that I might end up disliking, but it occurred to me this year I could use wrapping paper my family would be throwing away anyway! so this year I am experimenting lol

#the person behind the yarn #this is not a judgment of people who use this pattern making technique it's just my own weird personal hangup about it #if my family still got paper newspapers I'd have no problem using those #but for some reason the idea of crumpling up like printer paper for this was just a major no for me #idk. honestly it might be the texture of the printer paper?#crumpled newspaper or wrapping paper is a lot less sharp than crumpled printer paper #huh okay that's something new I have learned about myself while typing these tags #apparently I don't like the feel of crumpled printer paper #...until you get past the sharp crumpled stage into the 'soft like fabric' crumpled printer paper stage #well did not expect to learn a thing about myself while making this post #but that's not the point! the point is: pattern #currently my ideas are dragon or fox of some kind #but no idea has really grabbed me yet

the good news: finally started* my new bookbinding project (making a sketchbook for a birthday present for my brother—I think I'm going to do some variant of a sewn boards binding if I can find some kind of card with the right weight. thinking of doing some kind of loz design or at least a sword on the cover? also I found the scraps of gold leaf I scavenged from the trash this has so much potential)

the bad news: it's 1 am and the high of starting something is making me. not tired

#adventures in bookbinding #watched the new Jacob Geller video while I did it too which doesn't help those always make my brain run at full capacity #I saw a really cool looking book a few months ago that was just made with aluminum foil and textured underneath to look embossed kinda #and I've been wanting to try that #but then I found my black book cloth and I'm like ooh what if it was black except for a silver foil cutout #but now I could throw some gold on there too #I can be as experimental as I want bc if it looks tooo perfect it will be too intimidating for a sketchbook #so I'm fully expecting to mess up a little bit meaning I can be ambitious #the other option is to do a coptic binding but idk if I have enough of that kind of thread #luckily I had a ton of extra paper cut bc I miscalculated for the last book I did in the lab #I was just going to use paper from my big sketchpad but lucky me I didn't had to cut anything by hand this time around #also I am a genius and am currently pressing the signatures under a hefty stack of all of the yearbooks belonging to my other brother
