(this is about my opinion that Elliot the billionaire from Breaking Bad S1E5 "Grey Matter" was not a generous, kindly rich friend offering Walt a way out with no strings attached)
First, let me say this: I know most people don't notice or care about fashion but BrBa actually did put notable effort in their costume design and it's because characters like Skyler are consistently well-dressed that made this point so glaring

When she's hosting, when she goes to the office, hell even her house robes are sophisticated, put together fits - I'm not sure how she affords those sumptuous silk kimonos she's always wearing but it hammers home Skye as an appearance-minded person, a woman who knows how to dress. Even with the shit camera quality, you can tell her hot pink baby shower dress was made for her.
And yet.

Walt and Skye go to that party in complementing loud, harsh, ugly blues for what they learn is a beige party - the literal exact opposite of blue.
Now, it'd be one thing if they'd known and worn beige outfits that were shabby in comparison and Walt got in his feelings about it. Or if they'd truly "missed the memo" as Walt snarks and come in normal-wear that was out of dress code - yep could see Walt assuming it was intentional and throwing a fit.
But this poor couple attending a billionaire's party for some reason thought they should wear gaudy blue, with Skye's dress in particular highlighting exactly how cheap it is. It's almost as if they were under the impression they had to wear a color a domesticated adult would be unlikely to already own and rarely looks good on a budget, doubly so if you're 8 months pregnant. Skye would NEVER wear that shiny ass prom dress with the ruched center seam, scratchy 100% polyester raschel lace shawl, and sequined evening bag in public unless she thought it was her only choice. She never wears anything like this again, not even in the same season. The only rational explanation is someone lied to them. The more I explain this, the more I realize why most people missed it.
Now for the less special interest type reasons:
Walt asks (then later confirms) the invite said "no gifts." You might say oh, maybe Elliot was trying to spare Walt's pride but if so, why make a point of sharing it like he did? Why even invite your broke prideful friend to this kind of party, like you can't think of any other way to meet, chat, and ask if he'll work for you?
Additionally, how odd that Walt's was the only invite that didn't say this was a beige party.
Really can't downplay how hard it is to swallow they forgot to tell the Whites not to show up in clown uniforms.
Elliot's loudly showing off his gifts, with the last being an autographed Eric Clapton Stratocaster® which on the low end today is a $2000 electric guitar, but can go to the tens of thousands. Then he spots his friend's meager, teensy little thing, smaller than his hand and LITERALLY POINTS WALT OUT so everyone knows for damn sure who did this. Elliot unwraps it and does this full body sigh. Hands dropped. Your dad getting another tie for father's day type reaction. Young Good Ramen. No this is great man. You can get 10 for 1.99.
Sorry, no it WAS malicious. Listen to his voice. Feel how long he held that unpleasant silence before forcing a chuckle. Holding eye contact throughout while the crowd darts their eyes and smirks. This isn't Harry Potter - you can't emphasize how shitty something is then magically negate it like "and that's why I love it hahaha!" Elliot made it clear where he thinks Walt stands. Beneath him.
The whole party is like this, a humiliating horror show of socializing out of your social sphere. We don't even know what their relationship was like before. The implication is that Walt separated from this guy before for a reason and the reason was probably in line with what we saw today.
Elliot isn't stupid. He knows Walt. He knows Walt's character. He knows their financial disparities. He knows Walt is sick. Presumably he's well aware of Walt's pride. An intelligent and well-meaning friend doesn't accidentally combo-hit the exact weak points that caused you to drift apart in less than an hour before asking hey how would you like to literally owe me your life? How would you like the kind of debt that can't be repaid? :) You're a smart man.
If Elliot really cared about saving Walt, he wouldn't have gone about it the way he did. If, however, he wanted to antagonize and flex on Walt, make him as uncomfortable as possible, keep in his wife's good graces by offering him a job, and end the night with two possible outcomes - either he accepts and gets richer or he rejects and elliot can say "Welp honey, your former lover and ex-fiance Walter White said no for some weird reason. oh well, I tried! :)"
Idk, I guess it could be a projection but the way Elliot talked to Walt reminded me of old friends whom, in retrospect, didn't even try to hide their disdain for me. Like wow how did I miss that.
I think Gretchen had honest intentions. Her husband didn't. I don't know what his deal was exactly but I'd exhaust all other resources before accepting this dude who publicly embarrassed me as my savior, livelihood, and future employer.

its crazy how u can distill the two schools of thought regarding "pushing students to succeed" using two of jesse's offscreen, throwaway high school experiences. early in the show, we see that jesse still has a chemistry test with walt's "ridiculous—apply urself" comment written at the top. it's no secret at all that walt presently thinks very little of jesse's intelligence, that he views him as a Failure. and even if that wasn't necessarily the case back when jesse was actually walt's student, u get the feeling just from the way those three words are written that walt never attempted to understand jesse. the "ridiculous" insinuates that walt actually does see potential in jesse, that he feels that jesse could succeed, but the "apply urself" is where everything falls apart. it's a simple directive. there's no guidance, no attempt to understand why it is that jesse's NOT "applying himself" or how he operates. i mean, we see right off the bat in the show that walt does not Get jesse and makes very few attempts to adjust his opinion of him because it has already been set in stone (junkie, failure, lazy, irresponsible), and based on walt's other interactions with different characters, he doesn't take it very well when other people don't act according to His standards: he views it as an intentional display of insolence or some engrained shortcoming. walt doesn't instinctively see how people's personalities and pasts and self-perceptions and current dilemmas shape their behavior, and that probably translated to a premature dismissal of jesse as a lost cause when his directives, his commands didn't prompt any change in behavior. walt told jesse to do better, jesse didn't, and that's where walt stopped because clearly jesse is not Willing and has too many Static character flaws to do better.
and then u have the story about jesse's woodshop teacher. the one who saw jesse's first pass at the box project and said "u can do better than that". in some ways, it's not so different from the "apply urself" comment: the teacher is asking jesse to apply himself, to try harder. but it's not that simple directive that in two words assumes that jesse wasn't applying himself and is willfully failing. the teacher sees jesse's potential and he also sees jesse's personality. he knows that this kid won't say "yeah sure whatever" to a comment like that and continue to do the bare minimum. jesse needed to be told that he Could do better, not that he Should do better. he needed to be told that there wasn't just "potential" in him: there is concrete skill and talent. the teacher saw that jesse had been written off time and time again because of how he thought about and approached his work, how jesse had come to accept what he saw as the Truth (he isn't smart, he isn't good at things, he's a failure), and he challenged jesse to question this label. to not just passively accept it. jesse initially responds to this challenge out of spite, but as he tells the story, u see just how much pride and joy doing that project inspired. how he was able to make something Beautiful, how there Was something in him capable of success—how maybe people were wrong about him. obviously jesse needed more support than that to truly change his behavior and how he viewed himself, but there's a reason that jesse daydreams about putting that kind of care and effort into carving a box during the finale when he's at his lowest. he's retreating into one of his brightest memories—the memory of what it was like to love himself, even for just a moment.

hey, how do you know that? "One of Brian’s main traits is that he defends people he likes to the death and that won’t change. He’s been that way his entire life. He’s loyal to a fault and is pretty gullible in a lot of ways, honestly." Not being mean I just wanted some examples??
Lol it's simply something I've observed over the years. There are examples I can name off the top of my head, such as him excusing Freddie being outright rude to fans with "oh but he had to rest his throat, you see <3 that's why he told them to fuck off <3 Freddie threw away a whole box of gifts from Japanese fans because he doesn't like clutter in his life <3" (side note: compare that action to the current drama lmao). Honestly, that is so, so simpy, it's hilarious. I don't have the links to the interviews where he's said this handy (I'm pretty sure he's talked about it more than once), but let's be real: Freddie was rude a lot! But Brian swoops in like "b-b-but he was actually focused on recording!!!"
I can't find it right now, but there was a time back in Brian's twitter days when he publicly snapped at someone for insulting Anita's singing, and then apologized (I think he initially called the person a "bitchy little worm" lol). Anita was on this competition show in 2011, Strictly Come Dancing, and she was actually worried that Brian would get big mad and intervene if the judges got too harsh on her:

Now, vehemently defending his wife and Freddie are to be expected, and unsurprisingly, this extends to Queen. Brian is very defensive of the band and their work, and anything closely associated with it; that's why I think he's defended the film so much, because the project meant a lot to him and he thought it was a net good for Queen and Freddie, so he wasn't interested in accepting much criticism of the film and defended it publicly on more than one occasion.
He's shown this behavior towards other people he likes yet doesn't know as well, especially colleagues in the industry or, more recently, scientific colleagues like Walt Cunningham, who just died and got a nice little tribute post by Brian despite being a jackass climate change denier (and Brian very obviously feels strongly about climate change, so for him to like the man despite his flat-out wrong view on something Brian cares about a lot says something). Back in the movie days, Brian even got into hot water by still following Bryan Singer on instagram and snapping at someone who commented on his profile and told him to unfollow--again, I think this is because Singer was associated with a project that meant a lot to Brian, but to his credit, he actually issued a lengthy public apology that seemed genuine to me, who at the time, was not a fan of Brian lol. This goes to show how this trait is a double-edged sword, because it's sweet when he defends Freddie and Anita, but it's bad when he defends people who shouldn't be defended (although, I do believe him when he says he didn't realize following Singer on social media would be seen as supporting him. People do need to remember we're talking about a senior citizen here).
And so, I think Brian's defensive nature leads him to assume the best of people because he really doesn't want to think people he likes have done wrong or are bad. It's also a mindset he seems to have about people in general; after the 2020 US election, he made a video talking about how shocked he was that so many people still voted for Trump. Brian more or less came to the conclusion that Trump voters must be seeing something different, their news sources must be wrong and leading them astray, and we should create some kind of independent truth council. I could not believe how naïve he was with this post. Like...obviously, even if you could create a totally unbiased source of truth, morons and political conspiracy theorists just wouldn't believe it! Lol. And in general, I think Brian has a difficult time believing that there could really be a large amount of bad people in the world (I think this influenced his political campaign to appeal to people's supposed "common decency" too), but it's like...as someone who has lived in America her whole life and is extremely political invested, I can confidently say that no, Trump voters really are just awful fucking people. They're not led astray, they willingly walk off the cliff because the GOP tells them what they want to hear about women and minorities. I swear, I'm not going on a tangent lol. The point is, Brian wouldn't accept my conclusion here. I think it's genuinely hard for him to accept that there are a lot of people who are simply bad actors in this world, and that's about people in general--apply that to people he actually likes? Yeah. No. You'd have to tell Brian someone committed murder and show him the body before he'd accept that they're bad.
This is also why I think it's incredibly telling that Brian has held ill feelings towards Paul and Barbara for the rest of his life, because he's not a spiteful, angry person who writes people off easily, he actually defends people too much a lot of times, but that's getting off topic lol.

Why Can't They Get TRON Right?

Perhaps we fans of the 1982 Steve Lisberger-directed sci-fi adventure TRON were lucky to even get a belated sequel in the first place...
TRON: LEGACY was greenlit by Disney after many years of the original film garnering a massive cult following after its so-so box office run during a summer where E.T. ruled the roost. Contrary to popular belief, TRON was not really a "flop". It just wasn't the blockbuster Disney had wanted it to be, its okay $50m gross against a $17m budget did not put it in the echelon of STAR WARS and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Its many video game spin-offs, such as the arcade game from Bally Midway, fared way better... As did the home video sales over the years. The film got a fantastic 2-disc DVD in 2002, followed by a new game called TRON 2.0. A second life well-lived, so far...
Disney got Joseph Kosinski, who had directed multiple video game commercials including those for HALO 3 and GEARS OF WAR, to helm the picture, and brought back Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner from the original. After a whole 2 1/2 years of hyping this picture up, beginning all the way back in 2008 at San Diego Comic Con (that "TR2N" teaser that was later slightly redone as the film's theatrical teaser in late 2009), TRON: LEGACY bowed in Christmas 2010 to mixed reviews but fairly impressive box office.
I mean, impressive for a movie that was a belated sequel to a cult classic sci-fi movie that wasn't for everybody! I mean, really, $400m worldwide for that kind of thing is nothing to scoff. But for Disney, it wasn't enough. An animated series called TRON: UPRISING debuted on Disney's various channels - namely Disney XD - to solid ratings, but then Disney moved the show to a timeslot where few could stay up and watch it. They straight up murdered it, ratings sunk, no second season...
But, it still seemed like a third movie could happen, after an executive shake-up or two. Kosinski would be back, along with Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, and LEGACY newcomers Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, and Cillian Murphy. By spring 2015, TRON: ASCENSION was locked and ready to go for a fall shoot... But Disney got cold feet, after the release of a similarly big-budget sci-fi film of theirs - Brad Bird's TOMORROWLAND - bombed at the box office. Typical capitalist nonsense, a slightly similar movie fails? Boom, your project's dead. TRON: ASCENSION did not move forward...
Shortly thereafter, Disney began developing a spin-off film called TRON: ARES. A TRON movie in name only, if you ask me, starring Jared Leto. Said to be a creep that somehow dodged Me Too, and also... Uh, his erratic behavior? All that "method acting"? And his resume hasn't been too hot, either... And yet, the years have gone by, Disney keeps trying to make Fetch, I mean- TRON: ARES happen. Even after proposing and then shelving a Disney+ series based on the property.
By 2020, it seemed to be going full speed ahead with a director attached, Garth Davis. He exited the project a little while ago, now it has KON-TIKI, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5, and MALEFICENT 2 director Joachim Ronning as director. It was supposed to shoot this month... But because The Walt Disney Company and all the other big studios just can't pay actors and writers what they need to keep roofs over their heads... Production has stalled...
And the other day, you had Ronning saying, "This is Hollywood. We close deals for breakfast. Why do we suddenly have all the time in the world when every day is so precious? These tactics are extremely frustrating. It’s time for diplomacy so we can get back to work – under conditions that are fair to everybody"...
Really? Like... Really??
It's like this TRON spin-off is cursed, infected with a virus if you will:
Stalled and stalled for years, went through more than one director, evolved out of a cancelled true sequel to the previous TRON film (which will turn 13 in December), has freakin' Jared Leto super-glued to this thing (as lead actor and producer, like what's his stake in TRON?), and now its director is being a dingus about the strikes...
And here I am, saying... Disney, you could've just greenlit TRON 3 from director Joseph Kosinski, filmed it in 2015, released it in 2017/18-ish... And called it a day.
Hell, you could've landed Kosinski after he went and directed 2022's megablockbuster juggernaut TOP GUN: MAVERICK! But ya didn't!
Disney just doesn't know what to do with TRON, it seems. They seem to keep going back to it for aesthetic reasons, but can't somehow make the story itself work in order to get Marvel movie grosses out of it. (Not that it should be doing that in the first place, it's freakin' TRON.) As a friend of mine put it, Disney looks at it and says, "The one with the highlighter bikes, yeah let's do that!" The story itself really isn't out of reach in a post-MATRIX world anyways.
Ex out TRON: LEGACY's budget and how Disney bean counters expected it to do, and you have a movie that quite a few people went to go see in a theater! $170m+ domestically, $400m worldwide. Again, that was fantastic for a TRON sequel! Reportedly, Disney hoped that this December 2010 release would be the next AVATAR, which was a December 2009 release. They hoped that the digital world spectacle and 3D would be their ticket to having a piece of that pie, but they guessed wrong... They missed the forest for the trees. Plus, the 3D craze evaporated at the speed of sound after AVATAR came out. And that was because a ton of movies that didn't do what James Cameron did to deliver a truly immersive experience soured audiences on 3D. Most of the time, you essentially paid to watch a movie with sunglasses on.
But all those TRON woes go back to their difficulties making sci-fi pictures that become hits, or franchises. All the way back to 1979's ill-fated THE BLACK HOLE, and plenty more, from ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE to JOHN CARTER OF MARS to TOMORROWLAND to LIGHTYEAR to STRANGE WORLD.
It's especially strange to me because science fiction and futurism and space travel are a big part of Disney... I mean, Tomorrowland itself in the Disney theme parks, it was there since the day Disneyland itself opened in 1955. Walt Disney's DISNEYLAND anthology TV series had whole programs dedicated to space and the cosmos: MAN IN SPACE, MARS AND BEYOND, etc. And of course, the big one... EPCOT! Both EPCOT the city concept and EPCOT Center/Epcot, the theme park in Walt Disney World.
I should shut up, probably, and just be happy that Disney is doing *anything* with TRON in the film world. We have the two rollercoasters, yes, the one in WDW Florida and the one in Shanghai. I'd love to ride it, but Florida ain't the place for a person like me at the moment, so that's gonna have to wait.
Anyways, I've been very iffy about this TRON-without-Tron movie since we started hearing about it right around this time in 2016... I just find it kind of fascinating that it has stalled for so long, and right as it was about to get shootin'... The strikes happened (and of course had to/needed to). The reports say that it's still on once the studio heads stop being dinguses, but we shall see...
But for me personally? I just want the actual TRON 3... Maybe, if this movie happens first and does okay for itself... Then we get TRON 3? A sort-of two mainline movies, a spin-off, and a threequel situation? I'll take whatever I can get.

What kinda stuff are you writing about!!
Most of the stuff I'm writing right now are better call saul fanfics. I've always been more of a fanfic writer as opposed to making original characters and worlds.
A lot of my fanfic ideas are the "What if this happened instead?" genre. Like what if Gus rehired Gale and made him work with both Walt and Jesse? That would change a lot of stuff, and I had explored some ideas months ago, but I kinda stopped thinking about it as much as other ideas that were more interesting to me started crowding my mind. I don't want this post to get too long but also >:3c
Lately, I've been trying to come up with ideas for a fic where Chuck forgets to cancel his appointment when he's having his last breakdown, so he misses his appointment and his therapist shows up at his house concerned. And she ends up getting him to a hospital where he can be treated before he has the chance to do anything worse than tear his house apart. That event would completely change everything else that happens in the show, and would even impact the stuff that happens in BrBa, so it's been a lot to think about. I basically have to figure out a way for Chuck's life to become livable for him, plus I have to figure out how Saul can still happen if Chuck is still there and Kim doesn't divorce him due to Howard and Lalo never happening, and. Many other things.
But I have a rough outline of different things that need to happen, and I'm the type of person that daydreams or fantasizes a lot throughout the day, especially at night, so it's nice to have a pet project that has some interesting challenges. I get to justify thinking about blorbos all day because it goes back to something I want to write about.
The one wip I mentioned in my tags was a Chuck and Howard smut that I was writing during January this year. I planned to have it finished and posted on Valentine's Day, but I got the stomach flu like two weeks before that which completely ruined any ability to write people having sex. I tried to keep writing after I wasn't sick anymore, but it was kinda done for at that point, since the deadline was actually really motivating me. I've thought about trying to write more on it again, and I've even considered posting it in its half finished state with an author's note that it's not done. There are very few Chuck and Howard fics, and I only ship them recreationally, so at first I wasn't so upset and not finishing and posting the work. But the more time drags on, the more I feel like there are people who would actually like to read my rarepair fanfic, even if I posted it unfinished with a warning and the possibility I'd finish it later. It works where it is right now, but it's very much not as long as I wanted it to be and there's a lot more stuff I wanted to add that I just don't feel the motivation for at this point. But also that doesn't mean I should keep it locked up forever.
I have some other fic ideas that I've been floating around, but my brain has been consumed by my Chuck Lives AU for a while and it's kinda hard to focus on other stuff. I do have a google doc of all my fic ideas though, and I visit it every now and then when I'm in the mood to write or want to refresh what all of my ideas are. I've been a lot better lately at actually writing down ideas as they come to me so that I don't forget them later.

WEEK 12: Submitting my Minor Project
The deadline for the Minor Project wasn't until week 13 but I managed to finish my Submission PDF early and uploaded it for grading early. As much as I would have liked to fine tune the aesthetics of the document to make it look nicer, I was under major pressure to finish my Dissertation in time for the deadline as well.
The rest of Week 12 I spent Writing the Rationale for my dissertation, planning and drawing the comic book spread that would be the "Element 2"/ the physical work to go with my written dissertation/ "Element 1" and applying for Extenuating Circumstances.
Firstly, applying for an EC basically means that you are asking the uni to consider the circumstances you were/are under in light of a project deadline. I hope that makes sense. You are not just asking for an adjusted deadline, you have to have a valid reason for your request and then they let you chose between 2 options. If I remember correctly option 1 is: You submit at the original deadline but can appeal the grade give to you by the board for that work, which means you could redo it if you are unhappy w. your grade. Option 2 is: your deadline is adjusted and you may submit your work up to a week after the original deadline. When I applied for extenuating circumstances I didn't think they's approve it because my application was only 2 weeks before the Dissertation deadline. Having talked to both my CTS tutor and Minor/Major Project tutor, both advised me continue working as if i were to submit at the original deadline until I hear back about the EC for sure. This seemed like a no-brainer to me because I half didn't expect my application to be approved anyway. However I heard back from them fairly quickly and chose option 2, which gave me a little more time to work on my dissertation overall.
Now to Element 2, which only counts as 20% of my overall CTS3 grade, meaning the written part would make of the remaining 80%. Because of how Element 2 is weight up against Element 1, we were encouraged to not spend too much time on it since the only real influence it would have on our grade would be the difference of a + or -. Luckily I have had a very clear picture of what I wanted to make for Element 2 for a while and so my research didn't take too long and I could finish it all pretty much in the same day.
The title of my Dissertation is "Walt Disney's Dark Past and Questionable Present 1940 to 2022" and it discusses how the animation studio portrayed people of colour, women and specifically women of colour in their older movies compared to how Disney portrays them now. I think this is the most simplified synopsis I can give you in one sentence. Element 2 I named "Walt Disney - Princess Needs No Frog" as a play on the movie title "Princess and the Frog". It is a comic style page spread of 7 panels reimagining the storyline of Tiana. In the movies she is depicted as a self sufficient and work motivated woman with a clear goal in mind of opening her own restaurant. She has no interest in distractions such as a relationship until a prince in frog form comes along and "opens her eyes to the meaning and necessity of love". Pretty annoying if you ask me. This is why in my comic Tiana, when presented with a prince promising to solve all he problems for her, becomes furious with the big man Walter Disney himself and breaks the 4th wall to tell him off.
I had lots of fun putting Element 2 together and positively surprised myself with the outcome. I had never done a proper comic strip before and there are definitely things to improve upon but for work done in a day, I think it's passable.

The rest of the week I spent planning chapters out with lists of talking points and finding citations to support those points.
Writing the dissertation was very dry work so there aren't any cool pictures to post with it I'm afraid but thankfully I got it done by week 15. More on that later.

In a second, your cheeks are rosy, and you are convinced that everyone in the room can perceive your feelings as if you wrote them on little notes and passed them around.
You grunt and roll your eyes, "I hate all of you."
Derek snaps his fingers at you, "Lose the jacket."
"All men are pigs," you spit while removing your blazer, leaving you in a fitted tank top and your tight-legged jeans that hug your curves in all of the right places.
Derek wolf whistles at you, and you hurl your jacket at him.  Aaron lets his eyes slide up and down your body, his gaze lasting longer than it should. He swears that as you stride into the interrogation room, your hips swing a bit farther side to side than usual. It is the very action that radiates courage, a mind coupled perfectly with itself and the world around it, concentrated and solemn.
Typically, Hotch would divert the task of adulating a narcissist to Prentiss, but he knows if anyone can take command of someone's attention, it's you. How does he know? Because you captivate him far more often than he cares to admit, defying his very being with every interaction. You are a secret weapon that he wants to keep concealed until you can allow your talents to shine genuinely. Aaron knows that now is your moment. ++++ "What is it that I am being accused of? Fraud? Embezzling?" The sharp-dressed businessman questions; his gaze is straying further below your eyes than you care for.
Pig.
You throw a file down on the medal table, and it slides across, stopping right in front of the man, successfully redirecting his stare somewhere other than your chest.
"Try murder."
His eyes widen, "You're joking. Come on, where are the hidden cameras? I'm ready for you to yell candid camera now! I am Milton Richards, for god's sake!"
"I don't know!" You shrug your shoulders. "Why don't you explain this to me, Mr. Richards. I'm just as confused as you are. What reason could a successful, charming, handsome, wealthy business mogul like yourself possibly have to kill someone?"
"Oh please," Richards scoffs, "This isn't an interrogation. You've already pegged me as guilty."
"I don't agree, but you have the right to feel how you feel."
He purses his lips, leaning as far away from you as physically possible while handcuffed to the table.
"Milton, why did you try to escape a moving vehicle when my team apprehended you?"
"Just felt like it, I guess," he shrugs mockingly.
"So, something just randomly compelled you to flee the custody of a federal agent?"
Richards leers at you. You stand up and walk around the table, leaning down next to him, "I get it. I do. You're a suave, wealthy, and ruthless business tyrant. You have to cover your tracks-do what it takes to survive."
He raises his eyebrow, turning to face you, your faces mere inches from each other. I got you now.
"Trust me. I know probably better than anyone what it takes to maintain a position you fought your entire life for. I'm a woman; I had to claw my way into the F.B.I. Do you think it's easy being surrounded by a team filled with uncontrolled testosterone? Womanhood requires balls; I see you keep your balls in your pants, cool, cool. Mine are on my chest, up top. As you've so duly noticed."
His eyes flicker to the aforementioned area, and you restrain yourself from gagging.
"And you know what, Richards? I use them every day of my life. Because in my line of business, sometimes I have to take the backdoor to get things done. Why do I get the sense that you were the same way before you became Mr. Wolf of Wall Street? How else does a kid who grew up in the projects become a multi-millionaire mogul by 27?"
"We both know what the other is capable of. C'mon, let's show each other a bit of respect here. No games, let's be upfront with each other," you appeal. ++++ Aaron watches as you work the room like it is your stage. You play the part perfectly.  He admires your ability to absorb things and then responded rather than immediately react to douse firey circumstances rather than add to the flames.
Derek finds himself next to Aaron, smugly observing Aaron's visible fascination with you.
"She's fantastic, Hotch," Derek beams with pride. Hotch holds his breath behind pursed lips in an attempt to barricade himself from the feelings of foolish jealousy he feels creeping up.
I know she is. I think I recognize it a little too well.
Aaron knows that Derek will be scrutinizing his reaction to the commendation and refrains from responding.
Of course, Derek reads this lack of a reaction as a response itself. And he finds it strangely amusing. ++++ "Here's what I think happened," you twirl your finger around the manilla file, "I think you were having some money troubles and your top investors caught onto your little games. When you sat down, you volunteered the crimes fraud and embezzlement as reasons you assumed we brought you into custody. You listed them like they are apparent reasons for us to charge you. Those are two areas you are clearly willing to take the fall for and have cause to oblige by."
Opening the file, a photograph is revealed within of a murder victim. Richards shifts uncomfortably in his seat, stifling a cough.
"Do you know this man?"
"N-no," he claims as his eyes flutter from the photo to his hands.
Surprised by his blatant tell, you glance back at the two-way mirror.
Turning back to the suspect with a newfound spark in your eyes, you press harder, "Strike one. Try again."
"Excuse me?"
"The man in the image is Walter Barone, the C.E.O. of Jameson Whitely Associates...your accounting firm. Your company was going bankrupt, Milton. There was nowhere left for you to turn. So, do you want to try that again? This time, answer my questions directly and honestly."
"Walt had a reserve saved for me worth $5 million. Last week when I approached him about dipping into the fund to keep the company afloat, he withheld it. I wouldn't kill him for it, though."
"Well, see, that's the problem here, Milton. When he was found, that little reserve of yours was nowhere to be found. Naturally, you can assume where my mind goes when I try and put two and two together, right?"
"I told you," he says, clearly provoked by your accusation, "I wouldn't...didn't kill him."
"Wasn't it you, in your book, right? Who said, 'It's surprising what a man will do when properly motivated?' I don't know about you, but losing everything you'd ever worked for and having your one saving grace held from you seems like pretty good motivation."
Silence. "Oh, come on, Milton, now is not the time to act so arrogant!"
He slams his fists on the table; you abstain from being startled in an attempt to show him no fear.
Wild animals can smell fear. 
"Arrogant, huh? Why don't you step up and prove me wrong? Prove you're better than me. You despise me for being successful; I despise you for your assumption that you could waltz in here like a tramp and seduce me into giving myself up. What? Too harsh? I'm not sure you and I are even the same species."
Hotch bursts into the room, and you quickly signal for him to stand down. I've got this.
He gives you a prideful wink. I know you do.
Somehow Aaron being in the room gives you that last little push to conclude this grand performance of yours. Slowly, you begin clapping dramatically for his little one-person comedy act. He certainly knows how to play the fool.
"Is that a dare? Challenge accepted. Your entire life, you have suffered from a disease... a fragile ego. You have built these walls of detachment so that you can conveniently solicit status to hide your true, weak self. You lash out because you feel it compensates for your insecurities."  
"The truth is, despite being at the top of the corporate chain, every day you lead the life of a loser. You are willing to destroy people psychically, emotionally, and mentally. And you view that as a cause for celebration. You are the embodiment of a loser and abject failure."
Hotch touches the small of your back; you shiver at the sudden warmth that fills your body in reaction to it. He hands you a piece of paper, one that seals Richards' conviction.
"Milton Richards, you are under arrest for the murder of Walter Barone, Hank Simmons, Frankie Lisbon, and Jillian Ryder."
Hotch motions for you to do the honors.
"By all means, lead the way."
Holding yourself proud and tall, you waltz over to Milton and hoist him out of his chair. Inclining your lips to his ear, you tell him contemptuously, "You lose."   ++++ "Way to go, superstar! You had us all on the edge of our seats," Derek says, wrapping his muscular arms around you. You breathe in his cologne and savor the sensation of being in his arms.
Since the day you met Morgan, you've felt a draw to him. Not in a romantic way, though you proudly admit he is hands-down one of the most gorgeous men to set foot on earth. He gives you the feeling of safety, warmth, and brotherly love. His hugs rejuvenate you after a long day of work, and you see to it that neither of you leaves the office without receiving your signature embraces.
Aaron observes you and Derek's shared embrace from the shelter of his office. Before he can comprehend his movements, his legs carry him to the terrace overlooking the bullpen.
What do you think you're doing, Hotch? Pull yourself together. They’re friends. Just like you and her are.
Dismissing his inner voice of reason, he calls out to you, "Y/L/N. See me in my office."
You grimace at his tone of voice but abide by his request.
Derek chuckles, "Green is not that man's color."
"What?" You turn to him, confused.
"Goodnight, superstar."
"Night, handsome," you blow him a kiss, trying to brush his comment out of your mind.  ++++ "You summoned?"
Aaron's whiskey-colored eyes meet yours. The tempo of your heart quickens like a metronome.
"You did a phenomenal job in there."
"I've learned from the best." You. I've learned from you.
He clears his throat, "Those things you said...a-about the men on this team. Is that how you truly feel?"
Shocked by his willingness to believe such a misleading statement, you gasp and close the distance between the two of you.
You must have some nerve to believe that I would ever view you as anything other than the most upstanding man I've ever met.
"Aaron, what I said in there is further than the truth than I would have liked to have strayed. In fact, it was with you that I finally felt equal as a human being-like someone recognized me for my intellect and self-worth. A woman can't acquire that regardless of how 'equal' this world claims to be."
Aaron finds himself lost in your eyes, absorbing every meaning behind your words.
"It was a freeing feeling having someone I respect so highly show me similar respect."
No. Don't stop talking. Please. Hotch blushes at his inner monologue, incapable of comprehending precisely what kind of influence you hold on him.  
"Anyway," you laugh, brushing away a strand of hair that had fallen in your face, "Sorry for my little tangent."
"No," Hotch interjects firmly, "Never apologize for expressing your feelings. I assured you last year that I'll always be available as a sounding board for you. That offer still stands."
Your gaze softens as you study him, his intentions, his mannerisms. He notices your pupils dilate, and it commences a chain reaction within his veins. To him, it's not the fact that you radiate beauty on the outside. Sure, you are physically fit and put in the effort to maintain your appearance. Naturally, that would be why someone like Derek Morgan would have you on his radar.
But, Aaron has gradually grown accustomed to the kindness that you seem to reserve just for him. He sees the differences between how you act around the team versus when you step inside his office or are alone in the car with him, even the way your confidence elevates when he walks into the interrogation room.
These differences aren't unique to just you, though. Aaron notices the same changes in himself when he is around you. Never did he expect to go home from work and lie in bed thinking about the way your eyes strayed on his for a moment too long, or how as he completed paperwork at his desk, he'd replay in his mind a cheesy joke you told the team. He knows how you like your coffee from observing you in the break room one too many times.
One cream, two sugars.
Your laughter warms his body from the inside out. When you talk about your favorite comic book with Prentiss and Morgan, the twinkle in your eye never fails to bring a smile to his face. He knows that you hate getting out of the car when it rains because your perfectly straightened hair that you spent god knows how long on will undoubtedly curl.
His changes were less evident on the outside. But, he knew that deep down, there is something there that wasn't there before.

1 Album a Day - #001
Walt Kelly | Songs of the Pogo (1956)

It should come as no surprise to anyone who's followed me for any length of time that the first album I picked to kick off this year-long project is one that has ties to the best band in the world, They Might Be Giants.
Both John Flansburgh and Linnell (especially Linnell) have credited Walt Kelly, author of the comic strip Pogo, as a major source of influence on their music. Linnell has talked about this particular album in multiple interviews, stating that it was an important record in his childhood, and that its short songs with upfront melodies and bizarre wordplay are much like the type of songs TMBG strive to write. John & John have even covered two songs from the album, "Whence That Wince" and "Lines Upon a Tranquil Brow," both of which are an absolute delight. And if that wasn't enough evidence of their love for Kelly, this Pogo strip helped inspire "Ana Ng".
Naturally, I had to check out this bit of history for myself and glean a glimpse into the minds of my two favourite songwriters. And glean I did. It only takes 2 minutes to see how clearly Kelly echoes into the band's music. Sonically, they don't sound much alike; the album ranges from bouncy jaunts to big band jazz to sonorous lullabies, but no part of it doesn't sound like it's from the 50s. The lyrics, though, are bonkers. The scenes Kelly paints are surreal and sometimes even unsettling, if you manage to tease any meaning from the thicket of alliterations, double-puns, and twisty grammar at all.
While listening, I had the aid of this lovely blogger, Margaret Gunng, who typed out the lyrics to each song with a bit of commentary in between. At one point she writes, "There are moments in Kelly where I feel kind of frightened, like I'm wandering around in a mindscape that is a tad too bizarre," and later, "He makes language do stuff it just doesn't want to do." These statements can be applied every bit as much to the music of John Linnell. (Nobody tell her about "Where Your Eyes Don't Go," "Nightgown of the Sullen Moon," or "Stuff Is Way.")
On its own, the album is a fun, nonsensical little trip with a man who adores playing with language like a kid going ham on a 1000 piece Lego kit, instruction manual thoroughly ignored. But for me, it's also a fascinating piece of the puzzle that is They Might Be Giants.
If I had to pick one song to exemplify both Kelly's packed wordplay and his clear influence on TMBG, I'd recommend "Parsnoops": Oh, the parsnips were snipping their snappers / While the parsley was parceling the peas / And parsing a sentence from handle to hand / Was a hornet who hummed with the bees. I also like "A Song Not for Now," because it's pretty.
I rate "Songs of the Pogo" 5 alliterations out of 5.

Episode 2x04 - What if God Was One of Us
EPISODE SUMMARY:
AN ACT OF GOD — On the verge of a breakthrough in her quest to save Max (Nathan Dean), Liz (Jeanine Mason) turns to Kyle (Michael Trevino) for one last favor that could potentially land him in hot water. Meanwhile, Michael (Michael Vlamis) and Alex’s (Tyler Blackburn) investigation into Nora (guest star Kayla Ewell) leads them to a farm, where they meet a historian named Forrest (guest star Christian Antidormi). Elsewhere, Cameron (guest star Riley Voelkel) confronts Jesse Manes (Trevor St. John) about her sister’s whereabouts, and Isobel (Lily Cowles) uses her powers for good. Amber Midthunder also stars. Shiri Appleby directed the episode written by Steve Stringer & Christopher Hollier (#204). Original airdate 4/6/2020.

Roy said that he took veterinary training, which is how he was able to help with Louise and Nora's injuries.
"How come it feels like you don't know what I'm saying, but you know what I'm thinking?"
Roy moved the truck (with the pods in it?) to the livery.
"Boss's wife won't let him blame the drought on God so that honor goes to his foreman -- that's me."
Kyle on The Science:
"You're telling me that Michael Guerin used pinball parts and a car battery to cause cutaneous perfusion?
(Cutaneous perfusion...i think it is circulation of fluid/blood through tissue, but it's a bit above my head)
The device Liz needs is a "Personal Genome Machine". She ordered it when she still worked at the hospital.
Before entering the Crashdown, Graham Green tapes a Missing sign on the door for Hank Gibbons (who Noah killed in 1x13).  Apparently someone covered it up.
The sign is HARD to read, but I think it says:
"All viable leads reported to Graham Green's UFO Emporium will receive a free keychain.  Make certain you subscribe to the Weekly Probe as we dive deeper into the untold stories of Roswell and answer the question on everyone's mind.  ARE YOU NEXT?"

Graham Green references that he's the "creator of last week's 39th most downloaded true crime podcast." (Assuming that this is the Weekly Probe, referenced on the poster).
Graham Green is opening a 1947 themed malt shop at the UFO Emporium
U.F. Doughs (the Crashdown's new donuts).
Isobel's been coming to the Crashdown every day for weeks.  (Note that this episode is the first one that really doesn't have a clear time context).
"Feliz cumpleanos, mama!" Happy birthday in Spanish, of course, but note Kyle's choice term of endearment for fic purposes!  And she responds in kind "Gracias, mijo!" (Mijo = male version. Arturo calls Liz mija = female version)
"A wild Michael Guerin finally emerges from his weeks-long hibernation in a lab and a library."
Again, non-specific time frame.
"When every other farm was struggling, the Longs experienced record-breaking crops.  Summer of '47. No one could explain it…till October '48. The day after that photo ran in the paper, the farm was devastated by a massive fire.  Foreman, entire staff killed. Whole place burned down."
"What caused the fire?"
"Well the paper called it an act of God.  Said it was a freak storm. Bolt of lightning strikes the barn the same night that my mom's caught and locked up in Caulfield."
Wyatt Long's horses are named "Diamond" and "Silk".
Jesse Manes' beer of choice is "Polestaff".
Cam's postcard from Charlie (Likely the reason she came back to Roswell) says:
"See you back in Roswell --Charlotte"
Top left corner says "Greetings from Roswell, NM".
It was mailed to Jenna at the Green Hill Motel in Dayton, Ohio.
Jenna says it's not Charlie's handwriting.

Isobel in the mindwarp: "And what's your dream, Arturo? What would be your miracle? What do you pray for?"
Arturo & Rosa's fight… 
"Did that fool give you drugs? I'll kill him!"
"Ow! You're hurting me! That's child abuse!"
"Everything I do I do to hold you up and you see it as abuse. I don't know what to do anymore!"
"Yeah right." Rosa falls down and laughs.
"This isn't funny! Sheriff Valenti won't give you any more chances."
"You should be happy. You wanted me to be on the field hockey team, remember? You said I should make friends and have good American fun."
"Who sold you the pills?"
"I stole them."
"Was it Frederico?"
"You wouldn't believe me."
"Tell me the truth!"
"It was Mom! She's either too high to notice that they're missing, or she knows and she doesn't care."
"You're lying to me. I don't know how to help you."
"So stop trying then. I'm beyond hope anyway, right? That's what everyone else in this town thinks."
"Maybe you're right. I'm going for a drive."

Plus it gave the show another opportunity to be authentically New Mexican through food references.  (Last season it was in episode 2 when Arturo asked,"red or green?" And Liz replied "Christmas!". In New Mexico that means half red half green chile smothering her plate.) Like so:

1948...unclear how much time has passed, but Louise says months.
The kid's name is Walt.  (Walt Long?? Some other last name?).
Nora says that under the tarp is the "pumpkin launcher" and it's a surprise.
Nora says it's not safe for Michael here, "but soon."
"Hey do you smell that? It smells like rain.  It's what you smell like under all the grease and bourbon.  It's what your workshop smells like. Something alien happened here. Not that I can still smell it 70 years later."
"This is the best evidence I've seen that Max and Isobel's mother survived the initial firefight. This is something that you do with family."
"Nora's my mother. If she was here at the same time as Louise…"
Note - when did they confirm who Louise was or that she was Max & Isobel's mom? This has not happened narratively yet.
Since Walt was a young kid, Alex thinks there's a chance he's still alive (though at the end Nora definitely thought he died when the barn blew up. I suspect that Walt survived and is the key to the story...not fact, just speculation.)
Forrest: "The foreman, Roy Bronson, was definitely hiding something.  But it wasn't Little Green Men. It was Nazi spies."
"This is like Junior Year eraser room, getting caught by Coach Wiggins."
OG callback to the eraser room being the high school makeout spot. OG, "the eraser room takes our innocence." 
Rosa in Spanish "¿En serio?" Basically "are you serious!?!" Or "really?" When the blender shorts out (awfully similar to her first Noah nightmare in 2x01)
"...when Charlie told me she had stole classified documents, I reported her.  I thought I was doing the right thing and the military put her in prison."
"Right. Where she was safe."
"No. I… I didn't know who she really was when I turned her in. I didn't know what prison would do to her."
"She wanted you to turn her in, Jenna. She set you up to do so. She knew that as long as she was in government custody no one could get to her."
"Charlie fought in two wars.  Who was she afraid of?"
"A private securities firm, most likely.  You know that I met her? She was working on this genetic sequencing project that had the potential to save lives, but also destroy them. And there were some people out there who saw applications for her research that went beyond her intentions."
"She was doing research that could help save lives, and people wanted to use it to create a bioweapon."
"Well yeah, she created this pathogen that could seek out and dismantle specific sequences. Just think about it -- a smart bomb that could be detonated in the middle of a crowded city, only harm it's intended target. Think about the innocent civilian lives saved while you take out leaders of terrorist organizations."
"Or commit genocide. If her work fell into the wrong hands, it could quietly wipe out entire groups of people because they share a certain genetic code, while their neighbors go about living their lives.  Why do you know so much about this? What's your interest in my sister?"
"I believed that I had a use for her pathogen, at one time. But my fight is over now."
A few notes about this exchange.
Clearly Charlie's pathogen is the key ingredient in the smart bomb that Flint was developing, as discussed in 1x12.
Liz's "personal genome machine" can break down the alien genetics and give Project Shepherd what they need to use a smart bomb on the aliens. 
Don't forget, her lab is protected by Air Force security set up by "Alex's team". (Badbadbadbad!)
Rosa describing her bipolarism. 
"I get these mood swings sometimes. Like, I can be happy and singing one minute, and then, all of a sudden, this darkness just closes in over me, and I have all these voices telling me that I'm worthless."
Jesse gives Cam the name of the security firm looking for Charlie.  We don't see the name of it. He warns her to be careful. "I may be hobbled but they are not."
"Now, you were hunting aliens, and I gave you Max's name. Why didn't you lock him up in Caulfield with the rest?"
"I don't know.  I guess I feel like there's a story unfolding in Roswell. Has been for more than 50 years.  You can't blame me for wanting to see how it ends."
Catherine Zeta-Jones in a laser maze -- Liz is referencing the 1999 movie Entrapment.

"Interesting historical footnote. There was an internment camp in Roswell. Nazi POWs built half this city.  Hence the iron crosses. My great-great grandfather BoDean's foreman got busted for hiding a couple of women here. According to him 'A couple Nazi spies escaped and strudeled their schnitzel for room and board right here on this very farm.  See, I was never really as into shooting squirrels as Wyatt is, so, when I came out here for summers as a kid, my cousin Kate and I -- we'd prowl the property for artifacts."
"You know, what we're doing you and me -- it doesn't only have to be for Max...once Max is healthy, we could use this genome machine to Target cellular apoptosis.  I mean, we could craft polymerase sequencing in human DNA. We don't have to stop. We have no boards, no restrictions…"
Apoptosis is also sometimes referred to as "cellular suicide" or "spontaneous single cell death".
Polymerase is like the building blocks of DNA.
In other words, Liz is really, really smart.
FORREST LONG!!!!!! 😂😂😂. 
Alex on the bullet shells: "These match the M1917s the airmen used in '48.
"They were scattered all over the property. Legend has it the Nazis we're building some kind of bomb in the barn. Then one night the Air Force showed up."
"The night of the fire."
"The blaze burned so hot it turned sand to stone. Papers say that lightning struck the barn and everyone died in the flames, but...that's bull.  See I think the Air Force covered up the massacre that happened when they discovered that weapon.

A few things on this scene… 
Forrest mentions his cousin Kate...Wyatt's sister who was murdered by Noah in 2008.  So Forrest is Wyatt Long's cousin. 
Substitute Nazi for alien and it's probably all based somewhat based in truth.  In the 1940s that definitely would have been a reasonably obvious way to cover it up, especially given the history that Forrest cites and the military culture in Roswell.

"I think Max Evans poisoned Noah and left him in the desert the night of the lightning storm, and I think Isobel Evans was in on it."
Kyle says it would take gallons of acetone to poison someone.

"Got a lead on my sister.  Give me a call when you get that tin-star-wearing E.T. awake, so I can curse him out for worrying us all. Good luck Liz. Bring Max home."
Arturo's Spanish to Liz and Rosa.
"Das gracias a Dios.  Gracias todos los dias."
Translates generally to "Thank God.  Thanks every day."
Isobel's monologue at the end:
"The idea of God always freaked me out. Like, apparently he made people in his own image, which, first of all, get over yourself. And also, does that apply to us? Does every planet have its own God? Let's say that we're all clones of the big guy in the sky. Well then, doesn't it stand to reason that we're all capable of slinging light? Well I guess by that same token we're all capable of tremendous wrath. We're walking contradictions. A never-ending mercurial rise and fall. Darkness and light. I guess the real miracle is choosing the light. Despite the ever-present darkness. Look at us. You're in the middle of a downright biblical desert, galaxies from where we started. I mean, our very existence is a miracle. I'm capable of so much more than I thought I was, Max. I really think that maybe I could do great things. I need you to come back, okay?
