Please, what are you headcanons about Astarion and human Tav/Durge? There's obviously the angsty issue of humans having one of the shortest life spans of all DnD races but that's only as angsty as you want it to be in this setting (and the stories you can tell about it are what makes it fascinating). Still... What's your take on it? Would that be a disaster for a proud immortal elf?

Since humans are very diverse I decided to take female human Tav who isn't exactly a big girl but would be considered "curvy" by human beauty standarts.

You are the third child born into a big family of seven.

Unlike your sisters, you are that girl who is always teased for "eating too much" or "needing too much fabric for a dress."

It would bother you if you had issues with self-esteem. But you don't.

Besides, your father, a native to Frost North, has always told you that "the bigger a woman is, the more chances she survives a winter".

You inherited from your northern ancestors' red hair, the color of fire.

Freckles dance over your pale skin and, when you laugh, you can be heard in the neighboring village.

Since there's not much for you in life apart from marriage, you sign up to join an adventure party.

Being an adventurer isn't easy. It's dangerous for a lonely woman but you manage to find friends and learn how to protect yourself.

And you are still this jolly human woman who just can't allow herself to stop because your years are so short.

You probably regret this attitude when locked inside the Mindflayer's pod with a nasty tadpole behind your eyes.

You gather this group of traumatized people - it's not like you are the most competent person, but you are, at least, not experiencing the meltdown!

Astarion immediately catches your eye - he is an elf. And it's a common knowledge humans see elves as the most beautiful creatures ever.

Does he think he manipulates you into protecting him? Too bad. You decided you weren't leaving this adventure without this handsome elven man by your side.

A vampire? Even better.

You are much stronger than him and a bit taller.

You can easily pick him since his bones are so light.

And he adores your body.

Your breasts are pretty big and your thighs are soft.

He likes using your boobs as a pillow and you don't mind - because it gives you full access to his hair.

You keep being adventurers until it's too difficult for you.

Your red hair turns white, and you have wrinkles. You aren't a jolly red-haired girl any longer.

You are a jolly old lady who can both bake cookies for neighbor kids and beat someone's abuser with a hammer.

The time passes fast and it's time for you to go.

"You were quite an adventure, Astarion", you whisper to him

Astarion wants to leave the moment you find rest in your grave, but your family, the loud red-haired clan doesn't let him go.

Well, it's not like any of them were ever prepared to have a vampire for an uncle but here they are.

Astarion visits them from time to time, seeing how children grow up, how new things get old, and how the village becomes a town and then a city.

Human lives are so short, they make the most of them

Astarion visits less and less and only some of the oldest residents of the city know about him.

"Oh, yeah… I remember. My grandmother once told me her great-grandfather's sister was married to a vampire."

Sitting at the seashore, waiting to sail to the Isle of Evermeet, Astarion remembers the words he once heard from an old elf.

"You need to fall in love with a human at least once in your life."

WHY I DON'T LIKE TECH x PHEE: An unintentional essay

Alright, yall, I've figured it out on my end. I think. I just need to get some of this out so that I can move past it. I'm not even gonna tag it under tech x phee, cause you know what, I don't want to harsh the mellow over in that space, I'm just voicing what I've discovered.

This is long.

Wanda Sykes: I LOOOOOVE Wanda Sykes, love her - love her so much that I can't see anyone else with her voice. A 60 year old lesbian comedian... and you want to make her a 20 something pirate captain flirting with a male cl- no. No. Capital N. O. Like, I thought she and Rhea Perlman were going to be a fun comedic, older duo playing off of each other. Or that they'd have some sort of sassy relationship. But instead she's a coy, fun adventurer who starts to join in TBB family? Nope. No. Didn't sell it for me. Gimme someone else, might have worked. Try Anika Noni Rose, or if you need that star factor, Halle Barry or Beyonce or, for fucks sake LIZZO (can you imagine her beautiful voice as Phee? OOOO I just shivered. Loved her as the Duchess, but her as Phee! Instantly WAAAAY more excited about that character.) Not Wanda Fucking Sykes (like I said, LOVE her. But no. Choices.)

The Build Up: You guys. We are all literally writers. Where were the beats? Where were the moments? You naturally want there to be a moment the audience goes 'ooooooh yeah ok I see it'. IT HAPPENED WITH HUNTER. The next day I remember quite a few of us going 'OMG YES!!! Yes, totally ship that, saw the chemistry with Phee and Hunter! Into iiiiit.' I resisted that one too, cause of the Wanda Sykes thing, but you know what? IT. WORKED. I went with it cause it worked. Was actually kind of excited. Was looking forward to the fics. Did not happen once with Tech, never saw anyone go 'oh look at that chemistry between pirate and genius'. NOPE BTW SUDDENLY THEY'RE ALL TEASING TECH AND TECH AND PHEE ARE IN A SCENE AND THIS IS ALL ABOUT THESE TWO TAH DAAAAH! No. Nope. Not how it works. Feels like my favorite is getting the shitty end of the romance arc stick. Fuck off, no. We have all written better.

Toxic Matchup: The way Phee (see dude, I almost wrote Wanda. Thats how much I can't not see her in this character) treats Tech. One of my mutuals on here, @shadestepping, put it perfectly - "It’s because instead of understanding who tech is as a person and being respectful of how his mind works, she tries to force him to mask because it’s what she wants/it makes communicating with him easier". The example that keeps popping into my head is when Phee sarcastically says "when two people are talking its called a conversation". My eyebrows shot UP, like, this is one of the FIRST THINGS YOU LEARN about Tech- his face is in his datapad. Treating him like an idiot (which is what it sounds like in Wanda voice) because he is doing what he is always doing is not ok (seriously, WTF, dude?). Another mutual, @dumfanting agreed and shared how that hit them: "As someone whose been forced to mask for her entire life, that is wrong and damaging and perpetuates the idea that we as austitics are only worthy of love if we continue to suppress ourselves." And it really doesn't have to be that way. I can rewrite every scene they are in together, still have her be sassy, have her show interest and respect for who he is, and still move him out of his comfort zone. I will do it, if I need to, just to prove it. If the writers are trying to give her some growth too, cool, then TAKE THE TIME TO DO THAT - instead we only hear how HE's being taken out of his comfort zone. How about HER? You want to be with him? Maybe you have to meet him half way, honey

Ultimately, I could have gotten behind this if it was done another way - but the way they went about it missed so many marks. And for my man, that's unacceptable to me. He deserves the best, not something thrown together.

Ok, it's time to post about my opinions on the different relationships, so I'm not doing so in the middle of the night when I'm supposed to be sleeping.

To start off, I just want to say that these are all just my own opinions at the moment of posting, and I'm not trying to drag anyone for what they ship. People can enjoy what they want even if I'm just meh on it.

Crystal and Charles

Alright, so let's get this one out of the way first. I appreciate how the show kind of portrayed this as them going to each other for comfort more than for love. That being said, if this shows' goal was to make me think they were going to be an endgame pairing, then it failed. I think that they'll have their thing, but settle on just being friends, and that can still be beautiful. I just don't see it working out in the long term with Crystal being alive, and I don't feel like she is going to die. The show works well with her being alive and the boys being dead. Half the comedy is her interacting with the boys while everyone else just stares at her like wtf. They could very much be right person wrong time.

Monty and Edwin

I really like Monty. I love him, and that scene with him and Edwin on the swings was so sad. I don't know how much further this pair could go with Monty being a bird again, but I want to hope he can return. I feel like there is a little more to explore with this being that they were each others first kiss, and it could be cute, but not endgame.

Cat King and Edwin

I'm very meh on this one, unfortunately. I can see the appeal, but it just doesn't read to me, and I tried getting into it. I don't think they'll be endgame, but this one has the 2nd most potential.

On a separate note, this is the pairing that also makes me question why they didn't age the characters further. I feel like how ghosts mature after death needs to be explained a bit further. Otherwise, I see this being quite a fandom divider, and there has already been some division. Again, though, ship what you want. I literally don't care because these are fictional characters.

Charles and Edwin

Obviously, this is the big one. I adore this ship, and it has the potential to be exceedingly beautiful, whether it ends in friendship or romance. I, for one, want it to be canon because I would love to get a queer slowburn best friends to lovers romance arc for once. I feel like I never see long-standing male friendship that becomes romantic. It's either they've become close because they are into each other, or they were friends, but not best friends, and it always happens in a single season. I will say as well though that if they just remain friends I'd be perfectly fine with it as long as they revisit the possibility of it happening, because you can't have Charles say what he does in response to Edwin's confession and not revisit. Like the chapter isn't closed yet.

Also the idea with Gabriel is funny which kinda scratched my mind into thinking of a idea where Ra-On has a harem of demons while companion has a harem of angels

But onto the main idea that's been in my mind

How would the dynamic be?

Yup that is entirely the intention. Ra-on staying human, Minhyeok becoming a demon, if only temporarily, and the Companion being an angelic creature of sorts. It's a cheesy thing, but I'm trying to enjoy my cheesy themes so that's staying.

A harem of angels huh... I can just imagine one of the high angels going "Well, at least that one is cuter than you." Like, the angels legit prefer the Companion over Ra-on. And Ra-on would be dissatisfied for just a moment because he wants to be desirable to the beings he finds beautiful, even if they are trying to kill him like the scatterbrain he is. And then he would remember what exactly these angels did to the Companion and be pissed/scared all over again.

Now as for Raqi's role in all this... Okay, so Raqiel still ends up being kicked out of his position as teacher, but rather than being sentenced to being bait to the devils below, he's delegated to caretaker of sorts to the Companion. This happens very early on in the Companions stay, so there wasn't enough time for the possessiveness to really manifest. Raqiel's wings are still very much broken here. And by caretaking, I mean general wing maintenance, and just someone who will go out of his way to make sure the Companion is in the least amount of pain as possible as a person that is also not quite welcome in Heaven.

When Raqiel is not in Heaven, he's able to separate and cut off his relationship with his home, though not quite in a healthy fashion. But, since he's here in Heaven still and cannot participate in battle whatsoever, shit gets complicated. And add onto the fact that he wasn't beaten the shit out of by a mob of angels when they landed in Hell, so the yearning to be part of the masses wasn't broken beyond being.

But, when Raqiel eventually gets attached to the Companion, he will end up wanting to leave this place, if only for their sake.

Now as for the Companions feelings on Raqiel? Does not trust him obviously but isn't actively hostile to him, especially since they were witness to the breaking of his wings right before being assigned as their wing's person. The Companion is just, visibly tired and defeated while Raqiel takes out all the ingrown and blood feathers. Painful, oh most certainly painful, but it's the only way they can sleep at night. Companion doesn't trust that Raqiel will hold his loyalty towards them over his homeland, but only Raqiel is allowed anywhere near them.

Basically a little companionship between two people that have been dealt a shitty hand by those in Heaven. A sort of silent thing, almost domesticated in a way. You know, other than the Companion venting out all their anger on Raqiel when he suggests it. Because we can't forget this man is kinky. Companion gets to get their anger out, and Raqiel gets his relief. It works.

I love my fucked up man. He's so funky.

But of course, when the other angels start getting attached to the Companion, shit is going to happen! You know how these guys get. Jealous little things they are.

"Jay, can we please just go out to dinner or something already? You've been staring at that screen for hours."

You hated nagging Jay, but at this point it seemed more than necessary. Sure, he was enjoying his time off from filming Boys Planet and you were more than happy to have him home in your arms for a couple weeks before he had to leave for the second mission. But when all he wanted to do for the last 48 hours was play Roblox, you were admittedly getting bored... and a tad bit annoyed (... and the teensiest bit jealous).

Jay doesn't respond and you sigh dramatically from where you are laying on his bed, scrolling hopelessly through Instagram as you wait for your boyfriend to pay attention to you.

"Jay!" You call out to him again, but still he doesn't reply. "Jay, I swear to--."

"Who do you swear to, huh?" He says finally, turning to face you with an expectant smirk. "God is not gonna help you pry me away from Roblox. No one is capable of that."

"Could you hear me the whole time?" You ask, already knowing the answer.

He nods, sucking his teeth in contemplation. "I could. Including when you called me a--."

"Alright, alright," you cut him off with a groan. "Sorry for that. But I'm bored! You haven't seen your beautiful, perfect girlfriend in almost a month and here she is, sitting so pretty on your bed of all places and all you can do is play Roblox."

Jay just looks more amused. "You're really hyping yourself up there."

You collapse back onto his bed, completely defeated by your smartass boyfriend's annoying wit. You lie there, staring at the ceiling for a few moments before you hear Jay giggle. You feel something hit your arm and search for the culprit next to you, finally picking up what appears to be a crumpled up sticky note.

You open it, reading what's written messily inside:

"Thanks," you say reluctantly, sighing as you sit back up to look at him.

He's grinning, but your heart breaks a bit at how tired he looks. "Is it okay if I just play for the rest of today? I'm sorry it feels like I'm ignoring you. I'm just exhausted and I feel kind of sick from the time change. I'll literally be all yours tomorrow."

"Of course, Jay. I understand," you agree with a smile, making a mental note to check that he sleeps well tonight. "But aren't you always all mine?"

Jay nods at you cheekily. "Always, gorgeous."

Your boyfriend turns back to his computer, pulling his headphones back over his ears. You look at him for a few moments, admiring the view.

"Stop staring," he says abruptly with a laugh and you turn away, grabbing your laptop from your bag and flipping it open.

A few minutes later, Jay's laugh sounds through his bedroom. You steal a glimpse to see him shaking his head and rubbing his hands across his face. "You are relentless!"

You bite your lip to keep from grinning, typing something into the Roblox chat:

Either way it's never boring between the two of you

T will make you laugh so hard you double over during the most boring of chores

Man is so obsessed with your laughter

He loves every giggle, every shriek, every snort and cackle, ugly or cute, beautiful or ear piercing

There's rarely a serious moment with T

He's too focused on making you smile

Seeing you smile and laugh and generally just light up encourages T in a way he never had before

Like,, you two will be cuddling realises his craving for your unbridled laughter

So out of fucking nowhere he'll spout the most random shit

And of course he'll make a big thing of showing you with the most dramatic overreactions anyone's ever seen

But it didn't start out like this

T realised the random comments at the weirdest of times got you to laugh during another cuddle session

You two had been sharing some kisses (spicy, I know) when he pulled away with the most confused and lose expression you'd ever seen on him

"Are you alright? Is something the matter?"

A pause

"Are narwhals to unicorns what mermaids are to humans?"

...

ADSFRHDHJDTE WHAT ??

You can't help but burst out laughing because wtf ?????

And the worst part ??

You didn't have an answer

So the two of you spent the rest of the night on google as if that would provide answers to a question ABOUT FANTASY CREATURES (excluding nawhals and humans)

At one point T gave up and decided Bing and then Yahoo was the way to go 💀

After that day T purposely started interrupting things and spouting random shit just to see you giggle

And it works

Every

Fucking

Time

You'd be mad about him interrupting if he didn't light up every time he saw you crack even the smallest smile

But as well as spending time with you T loves it when you touch him

A brush of fingers, a peck on the cheek, a hair ruffle...

Speaking of hair ruffling, T loves it when you play with his curls

Literally just reaching a hand out to touch his head has T melting

T is literally a cat with a case of zoomies on crack and the only way to tame him is head scratches-

Jesse - Thoughtful King

Jesse's love language is gift giving and physical touch

One thing about Jesse's gifts is that they're either expertly handmade or ridiculously expensive

In his mind you deserve something that's had lots of effort put into it

If he can't make something for you, whether he's busy or art blocked or he's just not proud of the piece, then he's spending his money on something that's equal to the amount of effort he would've put into your gift himself

Sweet ass motherfucker istg

Worst part is Jesse wasn't even trying to be romantic when he was explaining this to you

Simply factual and nonchalant as if he wasn't giving you the biggest compliment you'd ever heard

And still you couldn't help getting unbelievably flustered as he explained his gift giving ideology

And he caught on and immediately started teasing you

Fucking bitch

Not every gift he gives you will be big

Not every gift will break the bank

(metaphorically because Jesse = rich)

But he will put so much thought into everything he gives you

Every flower, every pendant, every chocolate and every item of clothing

Every gift he even considers giving you goes through heavy thought processes

What's the price tag ??

How much effort was put into it ??

Will you use it/wear it ??

Does it suit you ??

And most importantly: will you love it ??

Because at the end of the day, price tag, the effort and usability doesn't matter if you don't love his gift

You could use it everyday but if it doesn't bring you joy then what's the point ??

Jesse has little post-it notes of all your favourite things

I think he started out with just a spare sheet of paper but there was so much he wanted to write and then so many gift ideas that he had to extend the page

So now he has a sticky note disaster on his scrap paper, bullet point list

You know what Jesse loves getting in return for his gifts (not that he'd ever expect anything in return but yknow)

Kisses

Cheek kisses, forehead kisses, proper kisses, any kiss he can steal from you he will

If his kids ask about whatever he's making you followed by the inevitable "Why?" that drives every parent insane Jesse will simply reply "The kiss tax." and then never explain

Joking, of course he explain but only after thorough playful nagging from his kids

The "kiss tax" means that for every gift Jesse gives you, you have to give him a kiss

AND HIS KIDS STARTED DOING THE SAME FUCKING THING

Holy shit it was so cute

His youngest made you a really cute bracelet and then stood there staring at you as you put it on

After a weird staring contest they blurt out "Kiss tax." and start making grabby hands at you

It's pretty easy to put together what's going on and what they mean knowing Jesse

And well, who are you to deny their adorable request ??

So you pick them up, balancing them on your hip, and place a gentle kiss on their forehead

...and then their cheek

...and then all over their face because duh

Jesse walks into the room and finds his youngest giggling up a storm as you pepper their face with kisses

He nearly dies on the spot, I won't lie to you

Ever since then his kids have started to expect a kiss or hug from you, whichever they prefer at the time, whenever they give you a gift

And you notice their gift giving, a trait they obviously got from their dad, increases

Hmmmmm,, what a coincidence huh ??

Jesse also enjoys long, tight hugs where you sway from side to side and stay there for as long as possible

Speaking of, he gives the best hugs no questions asked

A group huddle with you and his kids ?? Jesse couldn't be happier

Overall Jesse is a very charming lover who will always have a soft spot for you and his kids (especially if the two are combined)

Aaron Z - Flustered Flirt

Z's love language is quality time and acts of service

Z will always make time for you

You call in the middle of training ?? Sorry guys, gotta take this call

You want to show him something cool ?? Come right in. What ?? Working on something ?? No, Z's completely free right now...

You want to eat together ?? Lunch is already prepared, darling

And along similar lines, Z will do anything you ask of him (within reason, of course)

We all know how much Z despises social events

Too many people

Too crowded

It gets way too loud

And hot

And sweaty

And Z would rather just cuddle up with you back home

Or if he's feeling dramatic he may prefer to jump into a viper pit

Spice it up a little

But if you asked him to, Z would go anywhere

Social events are more bearable when you're by his side

Whenever he starts to feel drained and uncomfy, just one glance at you fuels him for another couple of minutes

The quicker Z gets through this, the quicker he'll have you in his arms, wrapped up in blankets in bed

And hey, if Z is feeling particularly drained he'll tuck his face into your neck and hide away from the world for a while

Once he starts to get his energy back up he'll playfully blow on your neck as you're talking to distract you

But there's always a way for you to get him back because there's more than a couple sure fire ways to fluster him beyond belief

4town obviously has many promotional events alongside their normal concerts and meets and whatnot

Go to any of those and Z falls for you all over again

It makes him unbelievably happy and proud when he sees you rooting for him

Just knowing that no matter what direction the band takes that you'll be there for him means the world

Z truly loves you and you rooting for him gives him the confidence to be proud of himself

Another thing Z loves to do is little chores that you could do but dont want to

Like,, no one wants to empty the dish washer

Literally no one

But Z knows how much you hate doing it so he goes out of his way to empty it every morning before going to the studio so you don't have to

What a sweetheart honestly-

If you're struggling with work Z will try his best to help

Like,, he'll have no fucking clue what he's doing but he'll try his best

Honestly you spend more time giggling at Z and swooning than you do actually getting any work done

I feel like Z is a little self concious

One thing that comes to mind more than anything else is his height

Mans towers over most people and its like he can never hide

Z hates the feeling of unwanted eyes being on him

Overall Z is a bashful sweetheart who tries his best to step out of his comfort zone to be with you whenever he can

Robaire - Charmer in 2 Languages

Robaire's love language is words of affirmation and physical touch

The physical touch is strong in this one,, let me tell you

Robaire gets stressed way too much

Being the leader of the band does that to a guy

So 9 times out of 10 Ro's very tense

One way you're able to get him to wind down is playing back tracing games

Truly the most relaxing thing to exist fr

Wherever your fingertips explore the muscles underneath begin to relax

Soon enough you'll have a puddle of Robaire in your lap, blissed out of his mind lmao

Okay okay,, but if yall are actually playing then Robaire is suddenly in this shit to win it

Like,, you were taken aback at first with how serious he would get over these games

Guess the letter ?? Ro's analysing the entire alphabet to match the structure of each letter with what he feels on his back

Guess the number ?? Mans is doing some quadratic formula algebra bullshit to figure out this number

It's literally the number 2

Guess the shape ?? Immediately starts doing the area of a circle off the top of his head

It's probably a triangle

Mans is unbelievably serious about these back tracing games fr

Let's get you some chill Ro ffs

But sometimes Robaire likes to play games of his own by confusing the fuck out of you

Like,, you're just trying to trace a square on his back and he's yelling out shapes that you swear don't even exist

"Circle!"

"No."

"Hexagon!"

"No."

"Decagon!"

"No."

"Double deckahedron!"

"No...?"

"Heptathlon!"

"Are these even shapes..?"

At some point or another you figure out that Robaire's just winding you up

The variety of creative threats you sent his way was almost as wide as the range of his guesses

Ro loves these little moments with you

Being the leader of a world famous boyband is tougher than most would assume so its nice to have a little down time

No matter where Robaire is in the world he knows when he gets back to you he's got lots of relaxation to look forward to

That's what really keeps him going when he wants to quit tbh

Flirting with you in French is another thing Ro loves to do

He loves watching your reactions

Whether you get bashful and embarrassed at certain lines

Whether you fire back with your own that have his face heating up too

Or whether it flies completely over your head and he has to repeat in English

No matter how you respond though,, Ro will cherish it

Robaire collects your reaction like trophies and every time he sees a new one he reacts like a little kid in a sweet shop

Tae Young's love language is gift giving and quality time

I honestly can't remember where I've seen this before but Tae is very very protective of the doves he fosters

Even the guys have a hard time getting closer than a metre away from their recovery area

And you can bet there's at least 5 security guards outside at all times

Tae can't bear to think that one of his doves could get hurt again because he let the wrong person near them

I think it would be a bit of an understatement to say you were shocked

But once you get over your shock you fall in love with the dove on your finger,, Maple

You start to stroke his head and can't hold back your smile when he starts making little bird noises

Holy fuck,, this is the best thing you've ever done in your life

Forget that one time you nearly did the splits,, this is your new greatest achievement in life !!

Maple is your new favourite being,, just look at his little face !!

Your so wrapped up in the little dove perched on your finger that you don't notice Tae practically vibrating a little bit away from you

His hands are clenched and his cheeks are puffed out,, he's almost bouncing with urge to squeeze you in a bear hug and he's ignoring the need to bite you also.. you're just too adorable right now !!

Bro has the worst case of cuteness aggression known to man

To calm himself he grabs your other hand and squeezes it as gently as he can manage and gives you a blinding smile that widens when you return it with your own

Spending time with you and his children doves makes Tae's heart feel full

He's also likes bringing you little gifts in the form of flowers

If Tae sees a random flower (read: weed with petals) he'll pick it for you

He thinks these small flowers are cute and pretty and that's what he think about you !!

Daisies are his most common gift but it really depends on what flowers he sees and which one he thinks you'll like the best

Tae loves gifting you flowers in person

He likes seeing your reactions,, your soft smiles get him through the toughest of days (and Z's relentless dance practice)

But if Tae's busy or feeling extra romantic he'll send a dove to give you the flower

If he has the time he'll be watching from round some corner with the sweetest nervous expression

Tae will never not be nervous when giving you a gift

What if you don't like it ??

What if it's not good enough for you ??

Of course his worries never take place in reality but he's still as nervous as he was when he first started giving you flowers

It's late and I'm tired, but I want to at least try to get ahead of some of the chapter spoilers now that we're really getting past what I know (save a couple Big Important Moments).

Oooh, electric feather Vash! On the one hand, I'm excited because I love the way he looks when he goes all uncanny. On the other hand, I hate what it will likely take for him to get there. I mean, the last time something like this happened was Fifth Moon, so....

Hahahahaha, baseball AU! I'm just gonna note it looks like Vash is pitching here.

LOLLLL Legato is such a little gremlin on the back cover!

"Just when you thought this series had reached its most feverish pitch...." Joke's on you; I know there are nine more volumes so we're nowhere near the "most feverish pitch."

More baseball AU for the back cover, which shows us that while Vash might be a pitcher, he's apparently not a very good one. (Or maybe he's actually excellent since he got headshots on everyone, but maybe he's not playing the game the way everyone wants him to, which TBF is a very Vash thing to do.)

Oof, in the middle of his breakdown, he remembers Meryl. For now, he's got to keep going for Meryl. This is actually a very good technique for getting through suicidal ideation. I don't know that Vash currently has the strength and vision to keep his goal of Knives in sight, but Meryl is immediate. She was just here, and now she's not, but she's very, very close. He can worry about what comes next after she's safe. But first he has to get her safe. Small goals first.

Meryl... probably has a lot on her mind right now, TBF.

You know, I'm impressed. That's probably the least traumatic way Zazie could have spit thousands of worms. Hooray for Nightow feeling lazy?

Zazie's worm sense is tingling again.

thinking about that bit in the s10 episode i just watched where dean (and sam but i think mostly dean) recounts john taking them to new york and how there was SO MUCH in it. everything made me feel so vindicated i love love looove when spn suddenly lines up with something ive been thinking about. so much there.

dean being 'really underage' so i was thinking like 15 (not that id even describe 15 as REALLY underage, but these are americans) and sneaking out to a sick rock venue... <33. coolest kid around i love him. i like the establishment that dean did do things like that - it both makes me feel happier for him and slightly vindicates me against the people who claim dean was more sam's parent than his brother. thats not true. sure, he raised him, but he also snuck out to go to bars and dumped sam at random places and acted like an idiot older brother. and im glad dean got to do that.

15 year old dean (or some other young dean) being intentionally gotten drunk and implied to be roofied or drugged or whatever by a bunch of girls who were immediately all over him... hello... thats AWFUL..... god he must've been such a looker and i like it when canon acknowledges that. i have this idea in my head of like. 'funny looking' kid dean who's about twelve when he suddenly graduates from funny-looking to like relentlessly beautiful by just growing perfectly into his features. dean is always so aware of the way hes percieved physically in any given situation and always uses it in this specific way, from flirting with every girl around to responding to male aggression by way of cops etc by also like fake flirting or pretending they're sexually interested in him..... i dont always know where i land on 'precanon dean did sex work' hcs but this is something that does intrigue me about it. plus the weird and very sweet protectiveness he always has about sex workers - also just watched that ep where hes like trying to talk the soul-wanting sex worker out of it. ANYWAY. and the extremely casual way dean recounts this like its just?? something that happens to him??? hello???

then dean telling john he'd embarrassed him and he hated him...... doesn't really stack with everything else we've ever heard of child/teenage dean, but it's kind of interesting to consider. i guess he was incredibly drunk/potentially drugged. also this is from dean's perspective, a dean who was intensely gone and probably barely remembers.

and then we get a classic early-seasons style moment where dean recounts something about john winchester and goes Ha! Classic dad! What a great guy! and sam's like Dude wtf?????? except sam isn't snarky anymore so he just does a Look. i mean come on dean. ten minutes ago you said 'john winchester isn't winning any parenting awards' and now you're saying 'he raised us right!'. Dude. You KNOW that is not true. sam also knows you know.

that being said. i like seeing a moment of john winchester just being... a human guy. taking his kids to new york bc they kept begging him to and seeing all the fun sights. scaring the hell out of a bunch of terrifying punk teenagers who got his teenage son drunk. its more interesting to me to think that john is, like, a decent guy, aside from the child abuse, and probably would've been a much better dad if it wasn't for the trauma and the hunting and mary's death (though. i have to say. The way he deals with it is still his character!!! Putting it all on your very young son and venting to him is still like. Not something that a hell of a lot of people would do, even if they got just as revenge-driven. i reckon that specific type of parentification/spousification would've still have happened to dean. mary would've probably done it too.). the young john we see seems like a cool guy and he has strong as hell opinions about his future self's parenting (admittedly while not knowing it's his future self, lol). i reckon, on one level, john and dean did actually really get on. that makes the awfulness of it all so much more interesting to me <3

this post is all over the place but like. what an interesting scene. ill replay it and actually talk about in more depth and a more structured way someday.

I'm..... torn on that Shogun ending. it was VERY satisfying in a VERY unconventional way that i appreciate the more i sit on it. but i was left very unsatisfied with other elements of the story that i think they could have done just a hair better with.

one, i would have liked a little more indication of how much time had passed between events. i legit have no fucking idea how long anything took except the overarching story itself. there definitely wasn't enough time spent on some important bits nor enough time for the audience to really sit with and absorb some of the more powerful moments. i was left wanting so much more in that regard, and had a very hard time being emotionally invested in the things i should have been.

secondly, the romance was just eh. i think it was well done, especially in the context of this time period, but again the lack of time spent on people and in certain moments really hindered that. i need to read the book tbh i'm sure there's so many little things throughout it we simply didn't get to see. but there just weren't enough.... influential moments between them to sell there was more than a bit of lust and fondness. and then when the big moments did happen that were meant to sell it, i couldn't buy into it. idk how to explain it other than nearly the entirety of the show it felt very shallow and more like they had a crush on each other and then ep 9 comes in with a wrecking ball of some hella deep emotion and love out of nowhere. i can tell they meant to build them up for that particular moment to hit as hard as it was intended but it just completely missed the mark for me. but, again, i think that ties into the way time was handled and not so much the way the romance itself was.

I'd have liked just a TINY bit more action. Just a smidge. a crumb more. and not even necessarily in the sense of fighting. A scene of anjin being a clumsy but serious oaf trying to learn how to use his katana properly after that scene with yabu and buntaro for example, would have been great. hell, get mariko in on it to correct his form and turn up the heat between them a little more. sure, her weapon is a naginata but she's still know the basics he doesn't. and it bothered me immensely he was never shown to be WTF about her being a Very Skilled Fighter when, yknow, european women are not, at all. Or, idk, let this master pilot of ships actually have more chances to show off his skills they talk up for the duration of the show. idk, there just needed to be like two or three more small scenes of something else happening.

for all the ways lady ochiba was built up, she ended up being such a letdown and boring as hell. they could have cut about 80% of her screentime and still had the same outcome honestly. i saw that ending twist coming the minute she accepted the proposal but the whole damn time i was expecting her to have her own cunning agenda and games to play. but nope she's just. there. serving looks.

and then there's mariko. i haaaaaaaaaaaaaate the trope she ended up being in with such a burning passion. dear god do i hate a classic fridging. the only redeemable part of it is that it was, essentially, what she wanted. that said, i don't think it could have been pulled off any other way since she was based on her real life counterpart. buuuuut, then they go an skip her funeral entirely??? yeah now that pissed me off something bad. it's one thing to fridge the girl but then just brush past it like nothing was just an unacceptable way to have handled that. I'm also miffed to find out she was supposed to be much more toranaga's advisor than what she was in the show. why the choice to downgrade her to just a translator?? why do such a vitally important character who carried the story such a disservice? idk man, THAT alone almost ruined it for me. it was just poorly handled. period.

BUT, as a whole? beautiful and amazing and fun and very very intriguing. I think the rather anticlimactic ending is kind of gorgeous in a strange way. and the weeaboo nerd in me enjoyed the fucking hell out all the meticulous attention to accuracy. I'll probably rewatch it a few times just to watch things in the background and admire all the detail they put into everything lmao i think it's definitely worth the watch even with my disappointments. i really hope we get some cut scenes released too cause i'm sure there's a hell of a lot that didn't make it in the show.

i stumbled across this trend of people reacting to "it will pass" as a response to "i love you" followed by a post that was kinda sad but also just kinda hit deep (if I find it, I'll link) but it just made me imagine minho's reaction.

~like imagine, you're just hanging out with your friend. not really doing much. simply invested in your own worlds. and minho, out of the blue, affirms, "I love you". for a brief second, you pause. basking in those words. imagining what it would feel like if they were real. and then it stops. you don't let the moment linger. you respond with ease, "it'll pass" and whilst the overtones of your voice exude playfulness, a ghostly sadness lingers in the tones beneath. to the untrained ear, playful is all they hear. but minho prides himself on his relationship with you. and being your close close friend, he is very much attuned to this. attuned to you. he hears the certainty. the unspoken belief that you can't be loved. at least, not in the way that you love so readily. not in a forever kind of way. not in the way that everyone else is. and it very much saddens him to hear because that couldn't be further from the truth. "no, it won't." he's stern and yet gentle in a way that only minho can pull off. he's sitting up straight and looking directly at you and you don't know whether to laugh or cry. "minho, i-" you begin but you're not quite sure what you want to say. so instead you sigh, averting your gaze. you inhale a breath of courage before beginning your apology, "i shouldn't have-" "don't apologise." "huh" "why would you apologise to me?" "because I made you mad" it's his turn to inhale a deep breath. "no. you didn't." he pauses to look at you and ponders taking your hand in his. "I'm not mad. I'm just sad that you see yourself like that." "like what?" he gives you a look that immediately wards off any dumb retort you might have made. and then his expression softens. and he does graze your hand. soothing flowers tracing the back of your palm. "You know, I love you, right?" When you don't respond, he uses his free hand to guide your eyes back to his. "my love for you isn't going to stop. there's no strings attached. it's simply for you. It exists because you do" he'll place a gentle kiss to your forehead. tears well in your eyes at the contact and you force yourself to blink them back. "what if it does? stop, i mean." Your voice is small and shaky. "then it won't be through any fault of your own but that is a very rare impossibility that you don't have to worry about." you nod once, and he knows that you don't quite fully believe him but when you lean into his arms and let him hold you, trying to hide your falling tears and failing miserably, he knows something he said has got through. and even though he doesn't often put it into words, he silently promises to make sure to remind you of the fact until you believe it yourself.

I think halfway through it became more of a "what would chan do" kinda thing since i realised it would take forever to try to write out my thoughts coherently. but idk, minho, he'd be so firm about it at first. but the moment he realises that it goes deeper then he'll try to remind you of how deserving you are of love.
