could i perhaps ask what brush(es) youve been using in your work recently? specifically for lineart; or if you use some kind of effect to get that specific look? totally cool if you cant say for whatever reason or dont wanna give it out, just thought i'd ask ^_^
I usually use the default photoshop soft round brush :-)
Theres not much of a line (no pun intended) between my sketches and lineart these days I usually start very rough and just keep redrawing over the last sketch on a new layer until I decide it's neat enough to color. Sometimes that only takes one or two passes but sometimes it takes more. After that I use a new layer on multiply with a different color to darken parts of the lines I want to emphasize and clip a lighter color over areas I want to make more faint

Another year, another outfit to die in! Happy birthday again Izuna!!!!!!
Like last year, I played with someone else's lines for these charming patterns, thank you so much Lena @elhnrt ! I had a ton of fun :D

My goal for this piece, in addition to playing with patterns and textures and adding some Naruto references, was to add as many death flags as possible.
The idea of having Izuna in a fireman's coat is obviously not from me. I've always like the idea of Uchihas in fire resistant clothes, and the opportunity for a thick texture alongside a reversible double pattern is very appealing. I used the image of the second reference as a base, with skulls on one side and stylized lightning patterns on the other (visible inside the sleeves and collar). Both were common immagery of firemen coats.
The actual skull pattern is taken from the third reference. I'd seen this one before and before even learning anything abt it it was too beautiful to pass up. Those white and navy gradients are absolutely delightful and I enjoyed using my gel pens for them very much.... This particular type of imagery with skulls and bones in a field is called Nozarashi, inspired by Buddhist representation of death and transience.
The lightning pattern itself is a reference to water and lightning dragons :) Like Tobirama's iconic jutsu, it's one of the hints of what's abt to happen to our little guy. The scabbard is also decorated with dragon motifs for the same reason.
The background pattern is taken from the first reference, another fireman's coat with an illustration of Raijin, the thunder god. He is often representated with drums decorated with tomoes. It works nicely as a standard looking sharingan illustration, with a reference to Tobirama's hiraishingiris with the thunder imagery, like the thunder patterns inside the coat.
If you're interested in this I recommend the book linked in the second reference! It is entirely about skeleton motifs in japanese clothing of the early 20th century.

wow, raphael, what a lovely house you have
#baldurs gate 3#it always takes a sec for the house of hope to load in.#usually it's just textures take a split second to render properly#but here it takes two or three lines of dialogue from raphael for the walls & furniture to appear at all#frustrating but very funny#was mostly just frustrating when this same thing happened in the ending cutscene though#the pier they were all standing on simply did not load. everyone was standing several feet above water just like jesus did#textures were also fucked up in a different way. it was fine after a reload & the second time i played to the ending though#anyway.

It was weird trying to adapt her eyes in the “No Evil” style to my own,
Followed Betsy Lee’s How to draw thingy, and it ended up helping! (Ah,, you can see how my attempt at a “clean line art” style went :/ )

The two hundred and forty third friend. A slice of cheese. She is an enjoyer of the finer things in life. She likes to be in fancy surroundings with only the best treatment. It's the life she was born into and is used to. She has been told that she can be arrogant. She insists that she just won't settle for less. Still, recently she has tried listening to what people say about her rather than simply going on the defense. She's considering that they might have a point and beginning to work on herself. sorry for not replying individually this is just easier but !!! ty so much aaaa im happy to hear my lines are recognisable as Me :') i always spend more time on them than any other part of my art process by a LOOOT but usually feel like they end of making my art look really like.. flat. like going from my coloured sketches -> lines + flats always makes me go "oh......i made it boring now :(" SO !! this made me feel better abt that !!
and for colours too i always looove doing colours. like i sorta mentioned i usually plan out my colours before i do my lines so theyre always smthn i think very hard about 🫶 thank you guys so much again !! 🤍🤍

Huge fan of the unsharp mask/sharpen tool it does wonders for my art

#i like digital art for sketching and colour planning..#i'm also v heavy-handed so i usually use my computer screen as a lightbox so i don't mess up the paper texture erasing sketch lines#i do have one but it's about 8 years old-ish and it doesn't connect to my laptop anymore

Augh. I need to attempt to make a hatching brush tomorrow I meant to do that today but i was just not feeling it for most of the day and then I drew my birdy so I forgot

THE CRUSH ISNT A GUY ONE#i think i can just copy and change some things about my texture brush to make it#life if i change up the background of the stamp. cause theres nib shape and the background which is what gives the tecture#its usually a like paper one but if i do some diagonal stripes on a transparent canvas i could make that the texture and boom#itd just take some fiddling with the line size to make it look right

getting so desperate for MikaNazu content that I started making my own
#coyo speaks#enstars#I'm surprised tho I put this down a few days ago bc I couldn't figure out Nazuna's hands#and then I actually went back to it???#there's still stuff that's kinda bothering me but I'm already in the coloring stage hxvdjsjs#I did save the lineart color in a pallette tho so maybe I can fix some stuff#but there's a few huge issues that would probably require redrawing and it's like welp too late#I love these Sai-style brushes tho#I might play around with the pencil I used for my other Nazuna drawing#bc the texture on that was rly nice and it worked well with messy lines while still being thinner than my usual brush#but this drawing was mostly me trying out the stuff that used to work well for me since the way I drew in Sai served me rly well#once I'm more comfortable with drawing and the program then I'll probably branch out and see what works best for me now#but marker lineart is still my beloved haha

So as it turns out I might miss lined paper a lot actually
#And also just like - not finishing doodles lol#I do not vibe with this new notebook - away it goes#No kidding I do still intend to use it - my hand did not suffer for that long just to not use it lol#But it will be for when I'm in a fancy mood - a more convenient and less frilly version of my hard-cover acid-free sketchbook#I dislike that guy because of the bad ''''''''''spiral'''''''''' binding >:0#What's the point of easy-release binding if the pages have perforation >:0 I already don't want them to leave their papery prison#Stop making it easier for my delicate and easily destroyed art to escape and blow in the wind >:0#Anyway lol#I have a couple notebooks I can test yet but honestly I've been getting a lot out of my scratch notebook#I mentioned it but I didn't actually explain anything about it lol#It's one of my rejects with a nice texture and otherwise overall paper quality - but it has a crease through literally every page#Something went terribly wrong in the manufacturing and QA that day lol#So I've been using it to just get ideas out of my head rather than make them pretty like I usually do#Filling the page however I want rather than to ''full'' - far I've been using it for mini ideas and calling the page when the mini's done#Which can be as little as five panels or as much as multiple pages - both of which have happened so far lol#And wouldn't you know not limiting myself to ''done perfectly'' has gotten me to make way more minis lol#They're still not at a point where I'm ready to show them off (except on Patreon cough cough) but they exist!#That's way better than keeping them in my head love that#So yeah - lined paper is GOAT

Spider-Man: See, we all know that I’m crazy strong, but I never wanna really hurt anybody right? Right. While that hasn’t changed, something very important does right around this time of year.
Spider-Man: *pulls off a glove and pulls a chunk into a long stem with his nails carving lines for added texture*
Spider-Man: See, this is what we like to call exam season. Anybody who knows anything about college can tell you that it drives people up the wall, and I already climb mine when I’m antsy.
Spider-Man: *starts winding the thin sheet around the stem, delicately crimping petals in place*
Spider-Man: I do wanna be clear that this isn’t a threat, okay? I’m still not interested in crossing the line, which brings me to my point.
Spider-Man: *throws the titanium rose at the brick wall behind him, stem first, and embeds it all the way through*
Spider-Man: /That/ was restrained because I could focus enough to have full control. If I’m extremely tired or otherwise distracted, there’s just as much risk of me slipping up as someone operating heavy machinery. I’m probably not going to remember what sleep is for two whole months, so remember!

patch 2 is apparently supposed to have big performance improvements and i'm really really hoping they're big enough for me to play the game on medium graphics again. all my impulse 1.0 screenshots from act 1 to early act 2 were on medium settings and they all looked so much better than any i have taken since
#i cannot keep living like this (low quality textures setting making my durge's lil knife neck tattoo usually appear as a smudged straight#line assuming it's even visible at all)#their freckles get lost too sometimes. literal hell#though some of it i know is from textures just not loading properly for me sometimes#my best guess is maybe they're not switching from one LOD to the other?#so i get the even-lower res textures in close-up shots instead of the regular low settings one#idk. i'm not a game dev#it does feel like a bug though because sometimes i *can* in fact make out the tattoo#but not always/not consistently#currently i do have it on medium textures + depth of field + ambient occlusion but everything else is default low settings#but i have screenshots of impulse & aislinn from the exact same moment in the exact same cutscene - some dialogue with halsin in the grove#and the difference is so noticeable#like it still looks good on low settings. when there aren't any visual bugs happening. but still :(#idk. anyway. i should go back to bed
