Phoenix tries to help, but he’s just 9, he doesn’t know what to do, what to say, and who knows what his home situation is like.

to be completely frank i think most of the people i've seen with major complaints regarding RGG 8's story are forgetting that 99% of what they're saying can be applied across the whole series
#this is not aimed at anyone in particular i've seen these sentiments all over#but things like 'well the story was mid' ok well come back to me after you've replayed yakuza kiwami. no optional majima everywhere allowed#and things like the ending falling flat - sure. but so did 7's#the pacing in the end chapter + chekhov's failboy were like. huh???#i'm never gonna call RGGS perfect but they're NOT regressing at all.#if anything gaiden and 8 have got me extremely hopeful for whatever comes next#like it's their 20th anniversary this year they've left so many loose ends in 8 they can carry on from they've got forever to keep going#MY only complaint is that they couldn't have retrofitted more of gaiden into IW but i can't exactly fault them for that#idk for all of the dooming i'm seeing i want to say something more positive about the game as a whole#even if this post is still pretty doom & gloom#people just let their expectations get way too high for this one game and i'm not even sure how that happened in most cases#it met all of mine - hell it EXCEEDED them. but i recognise i may be privileged on that front lol <- kashiwagi likers are eating so well rn#text#8#again i don't mean to attack anyone in particular it's just a general frustration i've been having#and i only hope that if there comes a time when people play over again that they're able to dig further into the meat of the story#and recognise that this game isn't uniquely 'shit' or 'mid'

sometimes researching for avatar redesigns has you 6 layers deep into the Japan's Meiji era allies wiki
#im trying to mess with some of the stuff that feels weird about the ways the fire nation is depicted idk#like i do not feel optically it is good for like them to be so heavily based on japan's imperialist actions#while dressed in clothes that come from places japan colonized#but i dont want it to just be solely japanese though i did draw zuko and azula in hakama but its largely cause i wanted to draw hakama#and like the only place with strong japanese influence being kiyoshi island and my own frustration with the modern day samurai depiction#i think fundamentally it isnt a choice that had as much thought as i am putting in put into it but it does raise an eyebrow for me#anyway i think keeping the thai influence is fine despite the brief invasion japan had into thailand due to thailand then allying with japa#and further allying with the axis due to allying with japan#ugh and ive been told not to think this much about it because its fiction but its also fiction so so so heavily based on real places#and when you base fiction on real cultures you fall into some unintentional pitfalls#i also fucking hate the royal fire nation robes they look so meh and the most costumey out of everything in the show#they look like heavy blankets despite being a supposedly hot nation#theres ways to have heavy robes (heian era japan) but they look like i make them out of fleece and velvet blankets#back to kiyoshi island i think the really only aesthetically japanese reference in the show being an island of noble warriors is lame#plus over done#it feels like nowadays theres a lot of people who get all whiney about people saying fire nation is based off japan#but like dude the creators in the comics and korra like go even more into the japanese influence and clearly it was the original intentions#also i do think you could do some pretty interesting world building by having say there be an older cultural influence on kiyoshi island#from the fire nation especially if the place is established as a central port area then you tie in some okinawan or even hawaiian reference#and gives an explanation that makes sense to why kiyoshi stands out from the rest of the earth kingdom you have long term cultural trading#and it establishes interesting relationships even pre kiyoshi time thereby drawing back onto some real historic references#cause for awhile ryukyu china and japan used to be this trading triangle which could explain some of these various influences going on#i think you can get a really interesting harmony when you create the fire nation out of a mix of japan and thailand#i mean both have these floating buildings due to living on some pretty wet lands and theres harmony in that mix#god i did see one person go like “fire nation is more based on china because theres a lot of red and red is important in china”#my brother in christ red is also important in japan#red is important in like many many asian cultures#i mean of course a lot of that importance stems from china and cultural exchange with china but idk kinda silly to say with your whole ches#like if you want to bring china in then the dragons are the biggest thing like sure some mythos has dragons in japan#but a lot of those comes from china in some way

Worst thing about learning a new language of my own violation though is that its made me a fucking nerd. I just found my friend's flashcards on quizlet and got excited. I get excited to hear some french words in everyday conversation. When my friends are reading a book i have to resist the urge to go WHAT LANGUAGE IS THAT. Im just super excited to consume french and spanish language and phrases and im a fucking nerd about it now
#like im not as into spanish as i am french#i like the sounds better but i set out here to learn french goddamit!!!!#but it would be SUPER awesome to speak both fr fe#fr#hell even just 1#like in 4 years. again. km not going to be worse#im listening and learing french constantly atm#spanish its only been a few days but im getting on a lot better than i thought#i keep getting frustrated bevause i dont always understand it and its digficult to manage my time#plus ive heard that learning two langauages can confuse u#but ive not had too much issue atm and it can actually be benifitial to learn both#hell i dont think om even doing this for qsmp anymore i dont even watch qsmp!!!!!#but also if i do need to dropone language or maybe even both if rhings get really crazy#it wont be the end of the world because i can always pick it back up and it wi never be a waste u know#luke i havent learnt spanish for 4 or 5 years!!! and i STILL can read a bit and i got put forwards on duolingo even FURTHER than i currently#am in french!!!!!!#and ive been learning french for 4 months! (although i learnt spanish at school since like. year 4 and i didnt take it in later years and my#spanish teacher hated me bc i was always drawing and she was mean#ik spanishis easier to learn than french#did u k ow that if u practice for 3 hours a day u can learn spanish in 6 months!?#i dont have 3 hours a day#i think today ive spent about 1#1.5 hours practicing and 1.5 hours engaging with french and spanish media combined#but thats only half of that each idk#i just dont think im going to be fluent for aggggeeeesssssss like YEARS. maybe in like. 4 or 5 years would be cool#but also its just fun? and im having fun and oh my god this makes me a nerd doesnt it#okay okay ramble over im just proud of myself :]

haven’t been on much bc my dog has been sick :( between seizures and an infected tooth we’ve been having a Time trying to get everything fixed (this started around the holidays so our vet has been very booked up…we have been like 3-4 times in the past 4-5 weeks OTL does not help it’s like an hour drive there, so that’s been exhausting) now his new seizure meds are making him sick (was hoping it was like, just an adjustment period thing but he’s been sick for a week and having concerning symptoms…) if I’m not on a ton or slow to replying to messages it’s bc I’m working as much overtime as my job will give me bc Vet Expensive and mentally drained obvi 😞
#it makes me a lil mad his meds were kinda pricy and they literally are making things worse. like sure he isn’t have seizures but he can#barely walk and keeps running into things and keeps having diarrhea so like. 🙃 and the meds are making him sooo hungry and thirsty#I’m seeing the vet AGAIN FRIDAY I know she’s so sick of me but man my little guy. if she can’t figure out a combo that doesn’t have such#bad side effects I’m literally going to scream and cry#he’s the most sensitive boy in the world and my mental health hangs on his and my cats well being. please. 😭#sanchoyorambles#I’ve also called them like twice to find out if I should stop or what they want me to do and keep getting ‘oh they’ll call u back’ WHEN#GIRL MY PUBBY#if I don’t hear back before his next dose I’m just gonna make an executive decision myself to stop them for now#he’s literally on the smallest possible dose too bc he’s so little. so. they can’t go down in dosage they’ll need to put him on smth else 😑#which means paying for ANOTHER PRESCRIPTION A WEEK AFTER ALREASY GETTING ONE THAT WAS $30 ON TOP OF HIS STUPID VET BILL#screaming.#and like if I have the money it’s fine. and it’s not like the vet could’ve known he’d have bad side effects#im just frustrated it’s no one’s fault#I could go to a closer vet. the thing is I LIKE the one further away#they have the only groomer I’ve found that can trim him without sedating him! they send me reminders abt his shots! 2023 was the worst year of my life. not sure what's to come or where to start but i know things have to change, i have to fix things somehow
#i haven't been very active online#last june i experienced something traumatic and i'm stuck in an environment in which i cannot heal#plus chronic pain has inhibited my life to a devastating degree#so all i've done these past months is sink further and further into a sadness and emptiness and pain i can't describe#it's scary to look in the mirror at somebody entirely unrecognizable. i feel hollow and devoid of any traits#i feel i've lost everything that made me 'myself'#lost my family. lost my health. lost myself. lost all the things i cared about once#i don't think i can ever return to the person i was before. so i have no option but to start anew#i need to stop being so terribly nostalgic for the things i can never get back#i can't keep clinging onto broken shards#honestly i know deep down that holding on to the hurt has never served me. and i doubt it ever will#but i'm scared to let go. scared of what will take its place. scared of what i'll find.#i don't think i can heal here#so i'm just enduring. but it's scary how time keeps passing. i've been so dissociated and none of this feels real#i feel so hopelessly lost and trapped and behind. i'm 23 now but it feels so wrong#✩

op: <3 hours of sleep, refreshing the EHR to see if the guy she coded for 30 minutes last night is still alive, just ate half a pint of icecream, going back to work in 4 hours and somehow still writhing in guilt for not putting out a fanfic chapter in >1 month
#he did live. i'm. very surprised#i think the issue is that that automatic CPR device kept sliding to his right so we were not getting adequate cardiac contact#because when we switched back to manual compressions around min 20 we started getting monomorphic VT and a shockable rhythm#got pulses back pretty soon after. and he's relatively neurologically intact.#it was a little weird because he is a cardiogenic shock pt who has no further treatment options and i was literally about to call it#i'm just curious because i think it was a cardiac event. of some sort. in-stent thrombosis maybe? but he's already s/p PCIx3#he had a PE earlier in the hospitalization but it was teeny tiny and his RV looked ok-ish on echo#certainly not bad enough to be in 4-pressor shock#maybe just good old VF/VT due to severe heart failure and myocardial injury resulting in ischemia to the electrical system#anna you might say#you literally complain EVERY TIME you're on night shift.#you know you're like... voluntarily doing this to yourself right?#....... :(#what is my life if not constant self-flagellation?#ok i'm gonna go lay down will keep you updated with what the dude's cath shows

Yesterday's poll decided that The Adventurer should join the travelers on the larger river boat for a short lunch ...

"Before he even fully musters the courage to shout a 'hello', the large group on the boat initiates contact first, gleefully waving at him, whooping and shouting as they near his tiny raft in the water. Apparently, some of them were betting over whether they'd actually find any other travelers out on the river today.. He fumbles over his words a bit, as always, but somehow manages to successfully get himself invited onto their boat for a quick lunch..
After safely securing his raft to the side of the boat with some spare rope, he climbs aboard, stumbling into the excitement of some sort of celebration. A few of them explain that they're traveling for 'kahesallei', an old elven holiday recently re-popularized in some of the larger cities nearby. Whatever it's true meaning and origins used to be, the current significance (at least to those within the city walls) seems to just be mindless feasting, drinking, and gaudy decor. Most of the traveling group are strangers to each other, only brought together by catching a ride on the same tour/party boat, but the mood is light, quite friendly between them, and perhaps a bit drunk.
While the boat itself is relatively plain wood, it's been strewn with gold and orange banners, flags, shimmery tassels, beads, and bushels of dark green ivy braided with fresh herbs and wildflowers. There are flat round tables of food and drink, plenty of cushions to lounge on, and one random guy perched precariously on the edge railing of the boat, gently strumming a lute for background music..
The elderly ship captain hobbles over to The Adventurer, sternly explaining that, no matter what the 'silly' passengers say, he's only allowed to stay for an hour because he didn't pay for a boat ride ticket, and thus really shouldn't even be allowed on board. By the time The Adventurer has mentally processed this information, the captain has already returned to his little steering room, slamming the door shut with a displeased grunt.. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to confront him or question the rules...... But! Hey, at least he has one hour at the party.. How should he spend his time? "

I can't even do five simple things in 2 weeks lol. I did start some new supplements and change my diet since#my doctors are still trying to sort out what health issues are going on or etc. so maybe it's something with that#like accidentally on the new diet I'm not getting enough calories or not getting enough of some vitamin or something so it's made me oddly#brain foggy and just really tired and unable to focus well for the past few weeks or something..? ANYWYA. not really sure what#it is specifically but my functioning in terms of actually focusing on and completing tasks has been a lot worse . thus#chronically behind on things. which I am always chronically behind on things in some sense since I always have like 7000 projects#I'm working on at the same exact time and etc. lol. but like.. even more chronically behind than usual .. ToT#ANYWAY.. I'm suprised that the 'try to get a ride on the boat' option didn't get that many votes actually lol#Like.. treveling down a river in a tiny handmade raft is probably.. not extremely safe or efficient lol#But at least he gets to have lunch there. Just the hour that he's on the boat doing whatever will get him a lot further because the boat#is moving faster than his raft would be. It should still get him out of the river and back on track sooner. Because he still has a long way#to go to get to the abandoned castle. I know it's been a lot of days since I'm not keeping up well with actually doing these#daily or every other day - but technically in the story it's only been a little over a day since he left the Inn#The first day he just walked. the second day he saw there was a barrier in his path. then spent half the day building a boat. and now he'e#*he's where he is now. The trip is roughly 4 days and he's like.. a little over halfway through his second. Not counting any detours or#distractions he might run into. But at least at this pace he should be off the river before it starts to get dark#Thate the main thing. you want to get a good rest on solid ground. ideally. So long as nothing strange happens on the boat#but yeah! day 10.. of little elf man adventure... ALSO he is like early 20s I imagine. so he can drink hbhjbjh#I know the 'very quick simple ms paint style' is kind of chibi-ish so it makes people look young but he's not a boy#don't worry. I didnt want it to seem weird like some 10 year old kid walking into a party of drunk 30 year olds#like a toddler hanging out in a night club or whatever. It's safe and okay for him to be there. just for the record. lol#I mean maybe not SAFE safe. it's still a boat of like.. rowdy party goers who could easily fall over the edge into the water or whatever bu#but like.. safe in the sense that he's not a 6 year old being offered vodka by strangers at a party. etc.#despite his goofy nervous demeanor and chronic baby face syndrome he is indeed an actual adult somehow ghbj

thank you for bearing with my purgatory posting and i'm also glad to see i'm not the only one who still has this fungus eating away at my brain matter. seeing other purgatory posting in the tag makes me feel better lmfao.
i'm not done btw, posting will (probably) continue as i revisit vods. wanted to extend a thanks in the interim, since i know how contentious the event was in the moment. i kinda thought the general consensus was most people hated thinking about it, but there's been a weird amount of engagement and yknow other people talking. makes me happy to know i'm not alone here!

akiba hobby having absolutely absurd shipping prices but also selling their products through yahoo shopping (which goes through buyee, which is significantly cheaper) is kinda funny but it makes it almost aggravating i was almost tempted to buy directly from their site. wouldn't think throwing a proxy shipping service in as a middleman would be the BETTER choice than direct shipping from their own website but here we are

my sister has me watching this french reality dating show and the subtitles always take a little while to kick in so at the beginning i'm just like mes amis...i do not know what you are yelling at each other...can u fight a little slower...pour moi...un petit ralentissement s'il vous plaît...un peu plus d'articulation...fâchez-vous si vous insistez, mais tranquillement...
#they're like i'm mad at you! therefore i am going to say one thousand words within one minute and only pronounce a third of the syllables.#that's fine. do what you need to do. but until the subtitles kick in can u maybe just stick to dirty looks or something 😩#literally when francophones talk fast i can't even tell they're speaking french anymore lol#i'm like dang what is this mysterious language? sounds tight#my sister loves reality dating shows and i...do not. but the premise of this one was sufficiently different that i agreed to watch#the first episode. and even though i think the people are all ridiculous i was like okay let's see where this goes#not sure i'm gonna make it much further though. the drama has started in earnest#and the problem is that the show is for couples where one of them wants to get married and the other one doesn't#so they come on the show and like swap partners and then at the end of some amount of time the person who didn't want to get married#goes back to their original partner and either says okay i'm ready to marry you (& they get married) (assuming the partner still wants to)#or i still don't want to marry you (and they break up)#and what i want to happen is for all of them to break up. because i think anyone who goes on a reality show because they can't agree#about whether to get married should not be getting married or probably even dating each other.#HOWEVER. i don't like how sad everyone is in the meantime!!!! everybody's watching their partner flirt with other people and#some of them are feeling very insecure about it! that's hard to watch#i really am just not cut out for reality dating shows lol. but my good ol' sis just keeps trying#television#anyway i thought 'fâchez-vous plus tranquillement' and was like oh tee hee hee that's funney
