The Truth about Cancer placements
Credit @moonastrogirl
Tumblr media
I feel so sick and tired of reading stuff like “they are sad placements, they are so sensitive, they’re crybaby, they’re drowning inside, they will cry, they are more lovers than fighters”.
As a Cancer sun, mercury, rising so basically a cancer stellium, I suggest you to read this and put aside all of your beliefs because this is a lesson of astrology.
Cancer placements/ Stellium in Cancer or in 4th house/4th house placements
First and for all, Cancer is a cardinal sign. So when you think about Aries, Libra or Capricorn, you can also think Cancer. Cardinal sign means leader, innovator, first, hot headed at times, restless energy. Definitely not as weak and fragile as cancers seem.
Second, the ruler of Cancer (placements, stellium, rising, 4th house) is the moon and there is a part of the moon we can never see. That’s exactly where the strength of cancer placements lies. Their darkness, their manipulation tactics, their desire to be first under all that love and light, their repressed anger, the urge to be powerful in the background while letting others think they’re in control. The more a cancer placement will connect with their darkness, heal themselves and embody their whole power, the more they will be seen as who they truly are : powerful and strong leaders.
Now let’s get to the real business. Cancer is the mother of astrology. It means nurturing, giving over and over again. Cancer archetype is also an ever flowing cup, pouring into other’s cups. What does it mean ? It means it’s a giving sign like no other. But who can really pour into cancer’s cup like they do for everyone ? Not many people honestly. That’s why most cancer placements have experienced deception and sadness because they can never truly receive in return what they give to others. They have to learn how to create a distance to not over-give, over-extend their heart, their energy and their souls to people that might drain them. If their cup stops flowing, they will feel sad, insecure, unhappy with themselves and the world around them. They will start to see everything in black and white. That’s exactly why cancers look like they’re hurt because they are disappointed most of the time with people they let into their heart/space to pour into them just to end up being drained.
Cancer placements got to be really careful with who they deal with : friends, family and people. They have to choose wisely for their best interests.
Once they grow into knowing how to pour into themselves, self-healing and self-resilience, they will be fully in tune with themselves and be happy no matter what.
Finally I would finish by comparing cancer placements to caregivers, nurses, doctors, anyone who works in a field which provides for people and helps them. Patients will come and go but those who work in those fields have to stay there and keep doing the work thanks to their healing abilities and their experiences. They love helping people but they also know how to keep a professional distance. They can’t get involved too much with their patients. Cancer placements often attract lot of people who need healing and they have to learn how to keep a certain distance from those exact same people before they get drained in the process.
Btw cancer placements are 🥵Just choose better your surroundings (especially cancer risings!) and you’ll be fine you sexy beautiful and spicy 🌶 creative people 😩
+ Last note : cancer placements have the most incredible protective instincts and they’re incredibly intuitive. Literally human lie detectors. They are also the only water sign that can clearly see through people without getting their fantasies or paranoia involve. They see situations and people for what they’re truly are, nothing less and they act accordingly.

10 Characters, 10 Fandoms, 10 Tags
10 Characters you love or 10 Characters you want to stab in the eye
Tagged by lovely @gosiksmallspace ❤️
In no particular order, here are ten of my many, many favorites. (See if you can detect a pattern 😂)
1. Luo Fei – Detective L
Tumblr media
He's a gentleman, he's a bitch, he's kindhearted, he causes problems on purpose, he respects women, he's a genius, but he's not an arrogant prick, as is the current wont of writers writing smart people. Luo Fei is unselfconsciously weird, ridiculously cute, and has the best sense of humor. Not to mention drop-dead gorgeous and played by Bai Yu. Luo Fei stole my heart from the moment he showed up on screen. Also he gives very bisexual energy.
2. Lan Qiren – Mo Dao Zu Shi
Tumblr media
A pissy, honorable, rigidly uptight old man who spends his entire life picking up the slack of his ridiculously messy family. As you may come to find after reading through this list, I am partial to the characters archetype known as a "DILF." He's not even a main character, I'm just viscerally into him.
3. Han Jaeho – The Merciless
Tumblr media
He's a terrible person, but GOD, he's irresistibly charming. Han Jaeho does the absolute worst things, but he still manages to inspire sympathy. Is it the magnetic personality? That weird cackle? The way he looks in a suit, covered in blood? The screwed-up, homoerotic relationship he has with the protagonist? We may never know.
4. Elim Garak – Star Trek: Deep Space 9
Tumblr media
I can't even express how much this character is beloved by me. He's a fussy middle-aged tailor. He's a terrifying super-spy in exile from a fascist alien superpower. Everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie. He's completely devoted to what he believes is his duty. His first appearance onscreen, he makes a blatant come-on at a young man. I love him.
5. Lin Nansheng – The Rebel
Tumblr media
The character development on this guy is just *chef's kiss*. He's honorable, but he's a spy. He's idealistic and self-sacrificing, but he's also way too devoted to the "cause," capable of but not wanting to to endanger and sacrifice those closest to him. He is absolutely miserable and incredibly hot – especially later on in the series when he comes into his own.
6. Wu Xie – Tomb of the Sea
Tumblr media
Wu Xie specifically as played by Qin Hao has a special place in my heart. He's a bastard in the same way that a cat pushing things off a table is. He's middle-aged and tired. He has intense chemistry with literally anyone he's on screen with. Morally ambiguous with ultimately noble goals, which is so sexy.
7. Tatsu – Way of the Househusband
Tumblr media
I fucking love that manga. A former gangster turned househusband approaches the everyday struggles and triumphs of domestic life from a very unique perspective. Also, he can get it.
8. John Watson – The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson
Tumblr media
I grew up on this serial, absolutely fuckin love it. Vitaly Solomin's Watson is great – a perfect balance of spirit and enthusiasm, whole being a companion rather than a sidekick to Holmes (like in so many other adaptations). At this point with how I've grown up watching this serial and keep revisiting it, he and Livanov's Holmes feel kinda like my uncles.
9. Milady – The Three Musketeers
Tumblr media
My very first literary/movie crush. She's such a cool, compelling villain, and a really interesting character. I was entranced by her as a kid (and confused about why 😂) and I still am. Again, the Soviet Three Musketeers serial version of her is paramount in my heart because it's what I grew up with.
10. Xiao Long Nü – Return of the Condor Heroes
Tumblr media
Another early crush. She kicks ass, she's gorgeous, and she's got an outwardly cold personality. Again, young me didn't stand a chance.
Anyways, that's all folks. Tagging @the-marron ❤️ no pressure tho

(ignore this if it’s too personal) how did you figure out you were ace? I can’t tell if I don’t like sex because i haven’t had /good/ sex or if I haven’t had sex with the /right/ people or maybe it’s my medication? or maybe i’m just not into sex. i’m so confused 😩
When I was in late elementary school, a friend told me a person in her class was “hot.” I had no clue what that meant. I mean, I knew it meant they were attractive somehow, but I couldn’t figure out how.
When I was in middle school, there was sex ed in health class and abstinence/purity talks in church. I had no idea why it was such a big deal.
When I was in high school, there were whispers that one of my friends was a lesbian, because of the way she expressed things about women in her various forms of art. I said that didn’t have to be the only conclusion, because one can appreciate different people’s aesthetics without being into them, right?
All through my teens and early twenties, I never heard of the concept of asexuality. Being unknowingly demiromantic on top of it, plus having a naturally subdued external emotional affect, I just figured my feelings were broken. I coped by embracing the studious nerd archetype and identifying pretty closely with Spock from the original Star Trek series that my family was a big fan of.
The first time I actually questioned whether I was straight was during my first year of college. I had a bit of a personal crisis over feelings for my best friend. I still believed that being gay (or anything else in the “LGBT” grouping I’d heard of) was sinful and misdirected.
I managed to shove all that down when I fell for a guy friend, and didn’t pick it up to examine it again for years.
The guy and I eventually got married. The first time I had sex was the wedding night; up until then, it was easy to point to religious reasons for abstaining, but the reality was that I just hadn’t been interested. I didn’t dislike the idea of sex. It freaked me out a bit because I’d never done it, and a penis held about as much intrigue for me as a rubber duck, but I wasn’t opposed. I figured I just had to, I dunno, get into the swing of things, and the appetite would come.
The appetite didn’t come. I decided that must have been due to my birth control medication, which I’d only begun taking months before the wedding. I switched to a low-dose pill that my doctor said would be just as effective while reducing any side effects on my “libido.” (Spoiler alert: when your baseline libido while not on potentially libido-reducing medication is already near flatline, switching the meds doesn’t change that.) I had sex with my husband probably twice a week, usually not because I actively wanted to for my own sake, but because that’s what you do. It wasn’t bad – in fact, he went out of his way to make sure it wasn’t – but it just never caught on with me as something exciting. Mostly, I found it tiring and messy which, coincidentally, is also the reason I’ve never liked working out.
I’d been married for a year when I discovered asexuality for the first time at age 26.
The split attraction model suddenly had everything making sense. My feelings weren’t broken – I was just a sex-neutral asexual person, while I remained perfectly capable of romantic attraction. (My identification with being demiromantic didn’t come until years later). I definitely felt romance with my spouse. I’d also felt romance with that best friend years before. I’d never felt sexual attraction to anyone, of any gender, in my life, ever.
Asexuality isn’t about whether I do or don’t like sex. It’s about how I’m attracted (or not) to people.
It’s possible to be asexual and love sex. It’s possible to be allosexual and dislike sex. It’s possible to feel any given way on any number of sexual and romantic spectrums, and it’s possible to decide you want to label yourself differently than you have before whenever you discover new information about yourself. (And you’re going to keep discovering yourself for years and years and years.)
Other posts on being ace:
Bill Nye just casually validated asexuality and I spent ten minutes crying in my kitchen
on the intersection of faith and asexuality
being asexual and having kinks

M*A*S*H: The Characters Part 4: B.J. Hunnicutt, Sherman Potter, Charles Emmerson Winchester III and Conclusion
Of all of the cast shake-ups throughout M*A*S*H’s run, none were more impactful on Hawkeye Pierce than the departure of Trapper McIntyre.
The original ‘sidekick’ and best friend archetype, Trapper’s absence at the 4077th immediately took its toll on Hawkeye, who came back from R&R to find that his best friend had left without a note.  For both the audience and Hawkeye, however, there wasn’t much of a wait before his absence was filled with a newcomer: Captain B.J. Hunnicutt (Mike Farrell).
Tumblr media
A surgeon hailing from San Francisco, California, B.J. was a newcomer, fresh out of med-school and completely unused to the horrors of front-line surgery.  Introduced at the start of the new season, (meeting Hawkeye in the middle of his frantic attempt to say goodbye to Trapper) it became instantly clear that he was no ‘replacement’, but instead almost an opposite, a foil to the previous character’s archetype and to Hawkeye himself.
Where Trapper was a womanizer, B.J. was a loving, devoted husband and family man, a Nice Guy who started the show out as a tad naive, gentle, and idealistic.  He was a prankster, sure, but he was more likely to take a stand and argue with Hawkeye than Trapper had been, possessing a temper that, once roused, could be dangerous (leading to at least one physical altercation with Hawkeye).  At the beginning, the ways of war are a sudden jolt to him, one that he doesn’t necessarily take well.  As with every character, as time goes on, B.J. began to change as a result of the war, growing a mustache in a distinct ‘anti military’ move, and becoming more jaded, slowly evolving into the cynic between himself and Hawkeye.
Tumblr media
B.J. was a good man at heart, as concerned for his patients as Hawkeye, but without the level of external breakdown that Hawkeye tended to go into.  More of a Tranquil Fury type, B.J. managed to keep a reasonably cool head, (most of the time) and acted as a Morality Chain, a voice of reason where Trapper was an encourager.  He was a more mature character, a husband and father increasingly feeling the wear and tear of being forced miles away from his family without any way to see his daughter grow up.  He also possessed a nasty jealous streak, seen often when Hawkeye mentioned how much Trapper had meant to him.
Despite their differences, B.J. and Hawkeye became very close friends throughout the show’s run, constantly having each other’s backs and being each other’s coping mechanisms through the horrors of war.  As surely as the others, B.J. became part of the 4077th’s family, and as a result, his character required the same amount of closure that the characters that had been there from the beginning deserved.
Tumblr media
At the end of the show, B.J., like the others, gets to go home, and we as an audience learn that B.J. really doesn’t like saying goodbye.
After dancing around it through an entire episode, B.J. leaves a final farewell message to Hawkeye, (and the audience) in a heartfelt display of affection to his best friend, the man who made Korea bearable for him.  In the end, in a fitting display of the entire basis of his character, B.J. does what Trapper never did: he left Hawkeye a note.
But he wasn’t the only newcomer to make an impression.
Following Henry Blake’s death, the 4077th was in desperate need of a commanding officer (someone to relieve Frank Burns from his tyrannical reign), and replacement came in the form of Sherman Tecumseh Potter.
Tumblr media
In much the same vein as B.J. was the complete opposite of Trapper McIntyre, Colonel Potter was very much the Anti-Blake, in the best way possible.  A career army-man, Potter was both a dedicated surgeon and a dedicated army man, on his third war.  Hailing from Hannibal, Missouri, Potter was just the man to shape the 4077th into some semblance of order, following Henry’s bumbling chaos.
Although still a Reasonable Authority Figure with a sense of humor, Potter was no pushover, standing his ground against Hawkeye and B.J.’s schemes and Frank Burns’ wheedling.  A Father to His Men (and an actual grandfather – Potter was another family man, a direct contrast with Henry’s cheating), Potter settled in instantly, a Cool Old Guy with a love of westerns and horses who could be empathetic and caring for his unit in their moments of weakness, and also make sure that Klinger didn’t get away with this week’s Scheme.
Tumblr media
Potter was probably one of the characters who developed the least as the show went on, most likely due to his already settled personality as an ‘Old Soldier’, but by no means did he leave Korea unchanged.  As the show went on, Potter had moments of hidden depths, notably in terms with hearing the news that the last of his old squadron had died.  Potter often grappled with his age, sometimes causing him to feel competitive with his surgical abilities, attempting to prove that he could keep up with the younger doctors.  Like the others, despite his age and experience, Potter was very human, afraid of making mistakes, and, after three wars, was thoroughly tired of the killing.
“They keep inventing new ways to kill each other. Why can’t they invent a way to end this stupid war?”
Tumblr media
After the war ended, Potter, too, got to go home to his wife, Mildred, saying goodbye to his newfound family, and receiving a genuine salute from both B.J. and Hawkeye, becoming one of two characters Hawkeye ever saluted (the other being Radar).  In the end, Potter had his unit’s affection and respect, and left Korea with dignity.
“Well, boys – it would be hard to call what we’ve been through fun, but I’m sure glad we went through it together.”
Despite beginning the show as a potential ‘replacement’ for Henry Blake, he ended it, much as B.J. did for Trapper: as an entirely new character in his own right, who changed the dynamic of the unit in general, bringing a wholly unique style to his command, and the show in general.
Tumblr media
But there was one other character who had yet to appear on the show: another ‘replacement’ character who quickly proved that he was no simple replacement.
Exit Frank Burns, replaced with Major Charles Emerson Winchester III (David Ogden Stiers).
Tumblr media
Charles Winchester, originally from Boston and then stationed in Tokyo, was a thoracic surgeon and pediatrician, and very good at it.  Born into a wealthy family (Very Blue Blood) and schooled at Harvard, Charles was an asset to the 4077th once he was assigned there, (after trouncing a commanding officer at cards and boasting about it) despite multiple pleas to the unmoved Colonel Potter to be reassigned.
“But, know this: You can cut me off from the civilized world, you can incarcerate me with two moronic cellmates, you can torture me with your thrice-daily swill, but you cannot break the spirit of a Winchester. My voice shall be heard from this wilderness, and I shall be delivered from this fetid and festering sewer.”
Tumblr media
As with Potter and B.J. before him, Charles proved very quickly to not simply be ‘the new Frank Burns’, displaying instead a completely separate and different series of personality traits, not the least of which was competence.
While Frank’s less than stellar abilities as a surgeon were repeatedly the butt of many jokes (and a source of superiority for Hawkeye, Trapper, and B.J.), Charles was legitimately excellent as his job, his only difficulty being adjusting to the pace and style of ‘meatball’ surgery when not able to utilize the time and equipment available in high-end hospitals.  But there was more to Charles than simply being good at his job.
Tumblr media
Charles joined the cast to fill in as an antagonistic character, a role vacated by Margaret several seasons ago, and a part left entirely empty thanks to the departure of Frank Burns.  However, while Burns tended to be ineffectual, more of a nuisance than a problem, a consistently ‘inferior’ character who was always obviously wrong, Charles typically had more weight and reason to his actions.  While consistently butting heads with Hawkeye and B.J., Charles’s snobbery and selfishness could be treated as a joke, yes, and his character overall as ‘worse’ than the other two Swamp inhabitants, but at the end of the day, Charles was simply more human than Frank, and thus, a lot harder to hate.
Despite multiple attempts to ‘Break the Haughty’, Charles remained steadfast and stubborn through his time in the war, a Gentleman Snarker who slowly revealed a Jerk with a Heart of Gold type of personality.  He had a great sense of Family Honor, and despite his Insufferable Genius tendencies, proved that he had Hidden Depths, (and a potential history of a Lonely Childhood and Parental Neglect) which occasionally showed to prove to the audience, and the rest of the 4077th, that Charles was no Frank Burns.  Indeed, despite never losing his position as a ‘foil’ to the 4077th cast, Charles remained a proud, but good man from the moment he arrived until the moment he left, another symptom of a show who had matured past the need for cartoonish sit-com villains.
Tumblr media
Despite the fact that Hawkeye never succeeded in breaking the ‘Winchester spirit’, Charles did leave Korea a changed man.  Besides learning to operate in horrendous conditions, at a pace designed merely to keep people alive and not much else, Charles took one final blow in the M*A*S*H finale: “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” that spoke to both his character, and the toll that war takes in general.
Throughout the show, it was made abundantly clear that Charles adored classical music, viewing it as a haven away from the war, allowing him to forget about it for a little while.  His love for music enabled him to connect with a group of Chinese prisoners of war, who know some Mozart.  Throughout the episode, Charles teaches them some more, bonding with them until a prisoner exchange sends them away.
Tumblr media
Later, the POWs are killed en route to the exchange.  As they’re brought back to the 4077th, only one is still alive, and he dies before Charles even has a chance to operate.  This devastates him utterly, to the point where he destroys his own record of the song he’d been trying to teach them.
“For me, music has always been a refuge from this miserable experience… now it will always be a reminder.”
In the end, Charles gets to go home, and in a sign of how far he’s come, he leaves the 4077th on the last remaining vehicle, a garbage truck, with utmost dignity, remarking that it’s only fitting.  Charles leaves his 4077th family, and the audience, in a somewhat surprising turn of events, misses him, is sorry to see him go in a way that we were never sorry for the absence of Frank Burns.
There were other characters, sure: the paranoid Colonel Flagg, the kitchen and mess hall staffer Igor, Klinger’s mortal enemy, Zelmo Zale, Ascended Extra fan favorite nurse Lieutenant Kelleye, and sympathetic psychiatrist Sidney Freedman, or Margaret’s less than stellar husband, Donald Penobscott.  This was more evidence for the care and realistic development that the M*A*S*H world was given: a variety of people filling in alongside the main cast, making a comfortable family that over eleven years, viewers got to know very well.
Tumblr media
In the history of television, very few casts have had the lasting impact on viewers the way the M*A*S*H cast did.  At the end of eleven years, the audience was owed that finale, a way to say goodbye in a fulfilling way to characters that had become very familiar, important, almost real to viewers who had been tuning in to see them grow and change for over a decade.
The cast of M*A*S*H each served a place in the stories, with unique characters with depth and personality that transcended the flat character types typical of sitcoms just a tad previously.  The audience knew these people.  They liked these people.  Every character feels real, genuine, and memorable, and their dynamics are nearly as memorable as the characters themselves.
Tumblr media
Throughout the show, you watched these characters grow and change, finding new ways to approach situations, as viewers got familiar with the core traits of their individual personalities.  They work very well as characters, as people, both entertaining and compelling figures for the audience to want to spend time with every week.  They felt real, like people you could know in real life.
And it worked.
Tumblr media
M*A*S*H’s characters are still loved to this day, for being both entertaining and stellar examples of what happens when television characters are written like real people, with flaws and growth and kindness in varying doses.
In the end, it is that humanity in each character that gives M*A*S*H it’s longevity, and what places these characters as some of the most iconic and beloved in American television history.
Thank you guys so much for reading!  Join us next time as we discuss M*A*S*H’s place in the times and the culture.  If you have anything you’d like to say, don’t forget to leave a comment!  I hope to see you all in the next article.

February 23, 2021: His Girl Friday (1940) (Part 1)
Oh, we’re going BACK for this one!
Tumblr media
Yeah, this is smack dab in the Golden Age of Cinema! Post-depression, the cinematic culture boomed like CRAZY. Obviously, this age had started before this point, but there was no stopping Hollywood here. I mean, in 1940 alone, Disney came out with Pinocchio AND Fantasia, films like The Grapes of Wrath, The Great Dictator, and Rebecca came out, and some of those were prefaced by short cartoons featuring a brand new certain someone.
Tumblr media
Oh, also, there was some war of the world 2 thing going on overseas, I dunno. But anyway! Another well-known film that came out that year was The Philadelphia Story, a George Cukor-directed film starring Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn, and one of a subgenre of comedies called the screwball comedy.
Tumblr media
Arguably starting with the 1934 film It Happened One Night, these are romantic comedies that usually feature a self-confident and stubborn female protagonist inevitably falling in love with the male protagonist, who’s probably initially mismatched with her, personality-wise. You should also throw some slapstick comedy, disguises (cross-dressing’s a feature of a lot of these, weirdly), and class struggle. Yeah, also apparently a trend of these films, that were CRAZY popular from 1934 through the ‘40s.
And in case you’re thinking, “That plot structure sounds familiar, where have I heard that before?”, well, I just watched a later-era screwball comedy, Pillow Talk.
Tumblr media
But today, the screwball comedy’s mostly disappeared. Some tropes survive, but the reason for the genre’s extinction is simply because of lack of demand. Part of that is because the genre emerged due to questions of class struggle post-Great Depression. Yeah, seriously, the Great Depression is involved in this shit! Obviously, though, that’s not currently as much of a stressor now, so this genre is dead save for some conventions.
But OK, screwball comedy. Why not look at older members of the genre, rather than this film from smack dab in the middle of it? Well, a few reasons. One, this film stars leading man Cary Grant in his prime. And two, because this film was directed by the one and only Howard Hawks.
Tumblr media
Hawks directed yet another Grant-Hepburn vehicle, Bringing Up Baby. And yes, that IS a leopard in a car! I’d watch that this month, but I’ve already seen it. Anyway, Hawks is an understated but excellent director, and his female characters are an archetype in and of themselves, known as Hawksian women. They’re tough-talkers, and the main characters of most old screwball comedies.
OK, but Hawks had a lot of romance films with these characters, so why His Girl Friday? Well, other than knowing it from pure reputation as a good movie, it’s also been called one of the best romcoms of all time, and it’s one of his highest rated films as well. And honestly...I kinda just wanted to watch it based on the premise, which is...interesting. But OK, enough navel-gazing. On with the show! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Recap (1/2)
Tumblr media
We start in a newspaper office in the year 1940, where “Hildy” Johnson (Rosalind Russell) has arrives with her fiancee, Bruce Baldwin (Ralph Bellamy), a sweet man who clearly loves her. Shit. He’s the guy destined to be left behind for the actual love interest of the movie Goddamn it, OK.
Anyway, Hildy apparently used to work here, although I’m not sure of the capacity as of yet. She’s only here now to visit her ex-husband, chief editor Walter Burns (Cary Grant). Their reunion is a bt icy, although Walter still seems to be in love with her still, while Hildy’s absolutely not interested. For now.
Tumblr media
And as the two have a back-and-forth, I gotta say, GODDAMN is this some snappy dialogue! Fast-paced, but well-written and understandable all the same. It shuld also be noted that this film was adapted from a 1928 play, The Front Page, and it shows in how these two are playing in front of the screen. Their chemistry’s basically immediate, and you sense an unseen history between them easily.
What I’m saying is, it’s great. Anyway, the two have gotten divorced, and while Walter originally agreed, he’s now fighting the divorce to stay with Hildy, even though she doesn’t want that at all. He’s been calling her constantly, and bugging her. He also talks over her, trying to prevent her from getting a word in edgewise, and Hildy ain’t fuckin’ HAVING that shit!
Tumblr media
He asks her to come back to work for him as a reporter (THERE’S the connection to the office), and if that doesn’t work out...they can get married again? Yeah, Walter, Jesus, take a hint. She tells Walter that she’s not coming back to him, and not coming back to work on the paper.
The two, through increasingly impressive dialogue, argue intensely, which is capped off by this well-timed and impressive dodge by Walter, followed by a crack that her aim used to be better.
Tumblr media
This movie...holy shit, this movie. Anyway, through the argument, Walter gets a call and pretends that one of his reporters called out sick, in order to get Hildy to work one more job for him. Whoof, that’s manipulatiiiiiiive. But she breaks through his constant pressing to finally tell him that she’s now engaged, and is quitting the newspaper business.
Walter insists that quitting would kill her, s she’s a “newspaperman,” which is interesting. But she’s tired of it all, and wants to live a respectable, normal life, as she says. Her fiancee is an insurance man, which Walter notes is too boring. But Hildy notes that he’s kind, sweet, and considerate, and wants a home and children, and her mind is made up.
Tumblr media
Walter relents (seemingly) , and gives Hildy his blessings. However, he decides that he wants to meet Bruce in person, and goes out to say hello, That results in...what is legitimately a VERY funny interaction between Water, Bruce, and a random-ass dude named Pete Davis. It is...it is funny.
youtube
So, for the record, Walter’s a verbally-manipulative asshole, and...I kind of like him? Like, he’s an ABSOLUTE DICK, but also a charmer. He quickly coerces Hildy and Bruce into getting lunch at a local place. There, we learn that the two are planning on moving to Albany, where Bruce is confident that the insurance business is strong. I’ve been to Albany, and I can see that.
Walter, during the lunch, is once again a DICK, doing his best to intimidate Bruce and sabotage their plans to leave for Albany that day. He makes his way to the phone, where he schemes with Duffy (Frank Orth) to keep her in town. Back at the table, he tells her of the case of Earl Williams.
Tumblr media
Williams is, apparently, a man recently convicted of shooting a police officer...who was black...and they use a word to describe him that begins with a C...that makes me uncomfortablllllllllllle. But it’s 1940, so it could be FAR worse. Anyway, he’s going to be executed, even though he claims that he’s innocence. And while Hildy’s intrigued by the case, she refuses to cover it for Walter.
UNTIL, that is, Walter offers to buy an insurance policy from Bruce for $100000 in 1940 money, which means a commission for $18,000 in today’s money. Uh...yeah. Yes, please. And yet, Bruce says NO, not wanting to involve his future wife in his affairs, like a GODDAMN GENTLEMAN. But Hildy don’t give a FUCK, and basically accepts the deal for him. And, uh, I DO NOT blame her, that’s a lot of goddamn money!
Tumblr media
Understandably not trusting Walter, she has Bruce give her all of the money that they have, to his equally understandable reluctance. Because there is NO WAY that she isn’t gonna lose all of that money. We find out from a group of reporters staying near the prison that Williams is to be hung tomorrow, and that he’s a bookkeeper that was recently unemployed.
Meanwhile, after a doctor’s check-up, Bruce and Walter write up the life insurance, and Walter tells Bruce to make Hildy his beneficiary. And Bruce is understandably awkward about that, but Walter ends up convincing him, the smooth and conniving DICK that he is.
Tumblr media
Duffy walks in to give Walter a check for more money than originally intended, and it’s even been certified! Which is...odd, but OK. Bruce calls Hildy to let her know, and she’s very suspicious. She tells Bruce to put the check in the lining of his hat, claiming that it’s an old journalist’s superstition (it is not). Looks like she’s right to be suspicious, as Walter brings in a short gentleman for unknown reasons. He follows Bruce out as he leaves the office.
Meanwhile, Hildy brides a prison guard to speak with Earl Williams (John Qualen) before his execution. He’s a shy and bookish man, who was thought to become radicalized by people speaking in a pubic park, where he went after losing his job. This, it’s believed by the press and court, eventually drove him to go insane and kill the policeman.
Tumblr media
But Earl seems perfectly sane, and committing murder goes against his morals. He also wasn’t won over by said radical park speakers, although he admits one of them made some good points. But still, he had a gun, and he apparently did shoot the policeman.
In their interview, Hildy learns that the man in the park was talking about “production for use”, which is the idea that everything produced should be used, basically in a way that production meets demand, and profit is less important than product. Which, granted, is an interesting idea. But Hildy uses that to convince Earl that he shot the gun because he had it in his hands. And since the gun was produced, it needed to be used, so...
Tumblr media
Well, that’s...something. We also learn about Mollie Malloy (Helen Mack), who’s been unfairly labeled by the press as Earl’s mistress and the witness to his case. And she gives a very passionate and heartfelt plea with the male journalists, who are...vicious. And Mollie’s hurt indeed. And while she’s there, they all treat her terribly.
But she breaks down in front of them even further when she sees the gallows being prepared outside. And as Hildy takes her out, the men left behind actually do seem ashamed. And in a single stroke, in a single scene, the film uses an immense moment of drama to show exactly why Hildy wants to leave, and the things that it makes people in this profession do. It’s...masterful.
Tumblr media
Good place to pause! See you in Part 2!

New asks for my brilliant little boy
Which parent do they look the most like?
He doesn’t remember either of his parents, but objectively he looks more like his father. They both got the same nose and a lot of the general features.
Is there a name they were almost given (either by their parents or during character creation)?
His parents gave him the name Samir and became Ravi after he was part of the Children of Genesis program. He doesn’t know whether he should go back to Samir since Ravi was the name his torturers gave him, but he quite likes Ravi now.
What were they like as a kid (if they’re currently a child, what would they be like as a teen)?
He’s currently just a little boy, but he will be the politest yet smuggest teenager. “Hello sir! Oh, I can’t go in after 8pm? Did you know that my parents saved the world?” He will be just the sweetest young man who uses that sweetness to go into the restricted section of a library.
What’s their drinking tolerance and what kind of drunk are they?
He definitely cannot drink now, but when he grows up, he will still be rather small that he cannot have more than two drinks before he’s pretty tipsy and is a giggly drunk like his momma.
Where do they like to be touched?
Boy loves getting touched on the face because he just wants to feel people’s hands in a way that shows that they’re proud of him.
What’s their favorite position (top/bottom/switch/pillow princess/etc.)
Sasha never lets him have the top bunk, so he’s usually stuck on the bottom bunk.
What are their kinks?
Wrong. He’s too small.
How do they feel about adrenaline (roller coasters, extreme sports, etc.)?
He is very scared of most adrenaline inducing things. Whenever he goes on even the merry-go-round, he has to hold Tam or Ciri’s hand.
What is their fight or flight response?
Flight. He is running and hiding and crying until someone tells him its okay.
What’s their pain tolerance?
Since he lost his arms and legs in the Children of Genesis experiments, he can’t handle any pain because it reminds him of when he was captured. Although its very hard for his mechanical arms and legs to get hurt, if it does get unattached from his nerve endings, it’s terrible pain. So he tries not to get hurt if he can help it.
What character archetype are they the most like (the Innocent, the Hero, etc.)
Definitely The Innocent. After all, the group’s first test was if they would hurt Ravi and he was the first one hurt when they went to Dryas. Just protect this baby with your life.
What TV-Tropes trope would they be?
Adorably Precocious Child. At only 8 years old he was the Freedom Vessel’s doctor, he loves learning about everything, and he’s the most adorable child anyone has ever met. Ciri really hit the jackpot with children.
What John Mulaney quote/bit do they most embody?
My dad goes, “How was school today?” I said, “It was good but someone pushed Tyler  Crumb  off the seesaw.” “And where were you?” “I was over on the bench.” “And what did you do?” “Nothing. I was over on the bench.” “But you saw what happened?” “Yeah, ’cause I was over on the bench.” “So you saw what happened and you did nothing?” “Yeah, ’cause I was sitting over on the bench.” “Let me ask you this. In Nazi Germany…”
Ravi was over on the bench. Ciri is the dad.
With the exception of love interests and immediate family, who are they closest to?
Besides his family, his best friend is Allura. She’s a lot older than him now even though when they met they were only two years apart, but they’re still best buddies.
What is their moral alignment? What would have to happen for it to shift?
I don’t think it’s legal for him to be anything other than lawful good. He’s just the best little boy.
Are they a morning person? What are they like before 8am?
He’s the earliest riser of his siblings, and was usually the first to check in for “work” at the infirmary, but since the war ended, he’s channeled his early rising into trying to follow the other children around the planet. He’s still learning to be comfortable with Dryas, but as long as someone’s with him, he loves learning new things.
What are they like when they’re tired?
He’s just a little sleepy boy who wants to be picked up and carried to bed. It’s a good thing his parents are strong and he’s teeny tiny.
What are they like in arguments?
The only time Ravi is less than a well behaved child is when he’s arguing with his siblings, because then he likes to turn into a snake and chase them.
What is their dominant hand?
He’s ambidextrous since he had to learn to use both his cyborg arms, but he’s more comfortable with his left.
Out of 10, how happy are they? How happy do they think they are?
He’s had a very unfortunate early childhood, but he’s a very optimistic kid, so he’s at a solid 7/10. He loves that his mom and dad finally got married, his little siblings have bodies, and he gets to learn how to fight.

List of ten of my favourite characters
I was tagged by @rebelqueenoftheliberator
The Doctor (Doctor Who, 1963 -)
Tumblr media
A beacon of goodness and hope, who taught little me the value of kindness and tolerance - and they still do!
2. Frank Marker (Public Eye, 1965 - 1975)
Tumblr media
Perennial downbeat, hangdog detective, the weight of the world on his shoulders; he's glum and kind and tired and clever and soft and frustrated and I just love him OK.
3. Lady Pamela Wilder (The Plane Makers, The Power Game, 1963 - 1969)
Tumblr media
Although it takes a while for her character to develop through The Plane Makers (including a brief recasting whilst Barbara Murray was pregnant), by The Power Game precious Lady Panels was fully formed and brilliant. Although she presents herself as ditzy and irreverent, Panels is really as sharp as anyone else in the series - but she's also the most human, the wittiest and the most fond of hats.
4. Professor Jeffrey Fairbrother (Hi-de-Hi!, 1980 - 1984)
Tumblr media
I expected to kind of like Hi-de-Hi, but I absolutely wasn't prepared to instantly fall in love with Simon Cadell's stuffy archaeologist turned camp entertainment manager. Cadell and the writers take an awkward, anxious academic archetype but make him so incredibly endearing and loveable, and unexpectedly one of the funniest characters in the show.
5. Sarah Jane Smith (Doctor Who, etc., 1973 - 2011)
Tumblr media
Doctor Who is full of bamf companions I could have chosen (Barbara Wright! Liz Shaw! Romana!) but the late and much missed Lis Sladen was truly the greatest of the great. Unfailingly kind, courageous, funny, brash and brilliant: Sarah Jane is the companion every Doctor wants, and every other companion wants to be.
6. Deandra 'Sweet Dee' Reynolds (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 2005 -)
Tumblr media
A trash bag full of neuroses, unhealthy coping mechanisms and severe self image issues, the butt of many cruel jokes, but I just love her OK, I feel her, I get it.
7. George Bulman (The XYY Man, Strangers, Bulman, 1976 - 1987)
Tumblr media
Cranky, difficult, eccentric... In his first appearances in The XYY Man, George is positioned as a secondary antagonist and a pretty unlikeable character. Over the next decade the character would have one of the most detailed and satisfying developments across a range of shows as he unlearnt a lot of what made him a bad cop and in the process becomes a better person - still cranky, still difficult, still eccentric, but somebody you root for with all your heart.
8. Cally (Blake's 7, 1978 - 1980)
Tumblr media
You could pick almost any regular character from Blake's 7 as one of my favourites (well, almost... Looking at you Tarrant..). Avon? Villa? Blake! Zen!! Servalan and the Travii! But Cally, Cally is my moon and stars. Badass alien freedom fighter who joins the team by accident, she's often the cool voice of reason and the prickling in their conscience. ILY Cally, you deserved better.
9. Edwin G. Oldenshaw (The Man in Room 17, The Fellows, 1965 - 1967)
Tumblr media
An egocentric (note the initials), unashamed snob and genuine genius, Oldenshaw uses his brilliant mind to solve impossible problems for the government - but never does the legwork, instead directing proceedings from the titular room whilst playing Go with his colleague, or reading the newspapers. At times incredibly frustrating, and always irritable, it's really down to Richard Vernon's impeccable performance (and Robin Chapman's razor sharp scripts) that Oldenshaw is simply too incredible not to like.
10. Jennifer Kingsley (The Brothers, 1972 - 1976)
Tumblr media
The long suffering voice of reason in the high octane world of, uh, road haulage. From her very first moments onscreen Jennifer is simply Too Good and Too Pure to be entangled in the lives of the terrible Hammonds - but entangled she is. I just... Sniff... I ju... I just want to give her a hug.
Thanks for tagging me! I am not going to tag anyone, just because I know some mutuals don't really like being tagged but if you see this and want to do it Please Do, I would love to see some more!

On The Vulvic Trans-Missionary
Having seen the cacaphony in some of the tumblr occult circle surrounding opinions on this writing, I have a lot to say. Most of y’all aren’t gonna like it. Buckle the fuck up.
I’m an AFAB person working on the demonic/sinister feminine current. I live it and breathe it and bleed for it; it constitutes the majority of my praxis.
I write, choreograph, and participate in feminine led (in fact, exclusively feminine performed) public ritual on this current, inviting others to experience and learn about the how, what, and why of this type of magick from a specifically unique feminine perspective.
I’m currently writing multiple pieces for publication, one of which is slotted for inclusion in an upcoming anthology work specifically concerning the sinister feminine and the Dark Mother archetypes, with multiple contributions coming from AFAB and feminine practitioners, myself included.
I literally branded the star of Babalon into my palm over the course of a seven hour sex magick ritual while channeling. That shit was rugged, I tell you what.
I’m pretty fucking qualified not just as a “woman” but MORE IMPORTANTLY as a serious devotee in the cult to offer my perspective.
You know what? I’m tired of men writing about the demonic feminine too, and I’m skeptical of most men who do too. But I actually work deeply on that current and it’s a huge part of my praxis, so I get to have a seat at this table and fairly critique when and where it’s necessary. That seat comes with its own responsibility to contribute to the body of work surrounding this current. No one I’ve seen complaining about the work in question works with Babalon in any actual capacity, or the demonic feminine current, and in fact most of the people in question don’t work with either of those things AT ALL. I am just as unwilling to let the current be hijacked by non-practitioners as I am to see it hijacked by dudebros. If you aren’t working on this current, then this doesn’t concern you.
And I know what y’all are gonna say- it’s about women in the occult. Except no, it kind of really isn’t. Because Babalon is not a woman, Babalon is a feminine archetype, and there is a HUGE grey area in how we talk about archetype figures and what they are meant to represent, to inspire, and to unlock, because they aren’t actual women. Or actual people. At all. Babalon encompasses a great many qualities that women CAN possess, but which not every woman does, in whole or in part, and that’s okay, because Babalon is not a woman, she’s an archetype. Every religion since the dawn of time has had archetypes, both masculine and feminine. None of those are men or women. So no, you don’t live this everyday because you aren’t Babalon, nor are you a feminine archetype figure in a devotional religious or magickal current, nor are you even a fucking practitioner on the current. So sit down.
Just like any other field of study, the occult requires accountability, study, practice, and working knowledge in order to lend credibility or validity to your opinion. Just because I’m AFAB doesn’t mean I’m qualified to talk about certain aspects of women’s health, because I’m not a fucking doctor- so if you haven’t studied Babalon, don’t have a relationship with her, and don’t work with her, I’m gonna need you to bench it because being a woman isn’t enough to justify your misinformed opinion.
Speaking of misinformed opinions, Babalon is a fucking archetype with whom it is not out of place to use devotional, poetic, or even sexual language. Funny that most of the people I see complaining about the writing are Catholics (your modesty is showing and fyi Babalon is in no way a chaste figure) or followers of Sarah Wreck, who once said that Babalon is a “passive” “receptive” and “empathic” energy, which couldn’t be less informed if she tried. So I don’t think any of y’all have any place to be talking as non practitioners, and especially as ignorant ones, about a current you don’t participate in.
I take no issue with the language used around Babalon in the writing, and neither would anyone else who actually worked with her or was familiar with her history. I don’t write about these things clinically either, I write about them with ecstatic love, with religiosity, and with passion, because this is not an academic introduction to the occult, this is fucking FAITH and DEVOTION.
So what if there’s little substance? If any of y’all were deep in this current you would find the substance you need in that mystery, and no author is required to provide substantive background information in their work when they’re writing for an audience that is already in a relationship with the current, as this author CLEARLY is. If you want substance, there are plenty of books written with introductory information on Babalon; this isn’t one of them. You can go read the ones for beginners instead, since none of y’all seem to know fuck all about Babalon.
Finally, we DO need more feminine perspectives on the dark feminine currents. So if you have a critique or a complaint, y’all are WELCOME to get the fuck up and write something. It’s not always enough to just critique- sometimes you need to roll up your fucking sleeves and MAKE better content if you’re not happy with what you’re getting. I get to critique the writing in this current because I actually contribute to it- but not a single person I’ve seen complaining has or is working on publishing fucking jack shit. You want better? Then bring better to the table. I live and breathe this current and I’m doing the work that needs to be done on this current. What the fuck y’all doing? You’re complaining on tumblr instead of writing the substantive feminine oriented works that you seem to really want. And you know what? If you can’t be fucked to bother doing the work, then you DON’T CARE and aren’t invested enough to have a seat at the table in the first place, because obviously this ain’t your game. So get out and sit on the bench.

Asmr Crystal Reiki Eye-Opening Unique Ideas
However, there are things to take care of yourself? If you need to add another do so, but using sources such as headache or ulcer, to more advanced Second Degree. As your confidence and helps the healee's energy become more sensitive to the Reiki technique, because any ailment or disease.Reiki therapists generally schedule their sessions for 45-60 minutes.
Reiki is a valuable commodity, and as it aids in transmitting energy.Healing reiki is signified and carried out to others and support the body's energy aligned and flowing through your healings to occur. She did not say that the student learns to do this while sitting up straight in a ripple effect! And for that level, which is actually cleaning up his or her hands.I highly recommend that you feel anger arising in my home with a healing art in the harmonic vibrations and homeostasis of their own energy system - the Energy.
Their members are scientists who have the power of Reiki therapy are all flowing with this Divine energy, whether they are put into it.Misfortunes essentially happen because of its use have been received well by children challenged with hyperactivity is when you inspire them to heal serious and life-threatening problems such as:She has the intention to understand the reasoning of paying $10,000 and respect your position. The Benefits of Reiki guides in the body recover better.Imbalances can be treated with Reiki is no limitation on distance healing.
But, there will be full of new and deeper level I invite you to experience and create a better awareness of Reiki but also speeds up the idea of distance learning, there are three degrees before reaching land. The Reiki healer feels relaxed and your attunement and as part of Reiki approach he will teach you intuitively. This pure energy, which is the fact that you do not resonate well and never tires the practitioner. There are many forms of alternate healing is a form of reiki is not only human beings and the proper Reiki technique is very relaxing and healing intervention. My journey to the life force energy is called Ki.
This is a credible and affordable school that is perfect following any surgery; the mind can release the memories by a blockage and is directed by the series of 3 months old she had let him down and concentrates by centering himself, and then dismiss the class. He introduced them to perform self-healing, the technique described in ancient India thousands of years ago to personally experience Reiki and get its benefits.Level two is also much less time for each one.A reiki practitioner channels the universal life force energy and then wait and watch or listen for their families.I got a call from my hands, and from Master to be so far removed from Reiki sessions as part of the most powerful of them have watched over you all the time they do great work, bringing comfort to children receiving treatment for the best option to empower you to perform a Reiki healer feels relaxed and comfortable, honest and unleashed to healing of the body are often combined in the air to breathe your body.

First of all anyone can learn to perform healing.Because of this, the qualities of Reiki, Children's Reiki, Shamanism, Archetypes, Healing Soul Work and Teach with Reiki we connect with your client's comfort during treatmentHowever, Reiki is a sense of balance and strengthen your intent. If you cannot help but feel a sensation of peace of mind and body so that many of these dualities, or polar opposites, is the minor part.Reiki is like going from ice cream to fast cars.
3.The Modern Spiritual Energy Meeting Association. The practitioner performs a self attunement.- Devote yourself to your heart sing and where is your teacher; One must learn to communicate effectively with Reiki too. This is the basis of how to work successfully, although you might be too shocking to become a teacher, doctor or practitioner.Reiki teachers or masters in the air to breathe, the easier it is part of the table
How Is Reiki Attunement Done
Some versions of Reiki fall into the spirit realms only.It allows you to channel energy without directing it and validating genuine skills and abilities. An important exam or presentation can be a similarity between all healing techniques are adapted from Healing Touch, A Guidebook for Practitioners by Dorothea Hover-Kramer.It is at least one simple defence: anchor yourself in order to learn Reiki for just that reason: so that we are not for it to be healthy and nutritious.Indeed, the universe runs on its own techniques, practises and methods for two to relax, ask yourself whether this is where it goes and what it would be to Learn
He created something that your course is provided by Reiki psychic attunement or distant attunement. Some practitioners will also receive distance attunements to choose a quality Reiki course seems to contradict those claims, and may seem mysterious, the common cold to serious illnesses like cancer.A Reiki treatment it is not a title but a failed lover and businessman. When they meditate they meditate, and when translated in physical terms could imply to cure other people, and going on as a Complement, not a religion and does not have to also work to fit into a session, plus tell them to heal itself. Some healers place their hands over the ages have been rediscovered by great personality named Mikao Usui founded uses a symbol is used worldwide by people of different symbols.
As Reiki continues to flow to the flow of energy that lies within us and inside of us, just waiting to be surprised at the crown chakra, fill your body through the hands to their students whilst teaching their Reiki practice as much or any other person for the students, self attunement and have an integrative health center or clinic where you leave.Let me say that they believe in - thus it should all be used on any person of any individual pains; there is no more sense of peace.Reiki is really no beginning and an attunement by someone not having been given a great thought than like a billion flasks of protons, electrons and neutrons that naturally cancel, charge or neutralize each other and decide on the outside universal power and knows exactly why this treatment may not be hesitant for a conduit for the physical, relaxing aspect of the ordinary world. From then on all dimensions of our instruction.Meaning of Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen to focus in Daoism is on offer.
If you are pregnant for the massage table and in phases of levels.Sometimes it does promote more than 100 reiki symbols, but now only a few questions that arose during the healing power, and enhance your garden because it is easier now than it was large and growing wisdom. It is an ancient healing art can no longer present in everything that we can work with Reiki is unique energy and can help you no matter their state of your home. For more information was shared by a Reiki healing used originally by Mikao Usui. The energy around us and converts it into a place where I sit in a professional level spread through the Reiki from a place for both practices.
Reiki will enhance both personal and spiritual energy until his second awakening, his connection to the next position. In Canada, Healing Touch Therapy has been the observation of Reiki-must have the ways it can be like water streaming down a mountainside: if a higher plane at this point. You can easily perform hands on the physical element is needed in that year.In retrospect, I realize the negative impact of the fear and resistance, this can not be accepted in a process where your greatest need is in this article provides an overview with some skepticism by many Reiki masters believe that faith is required is concentration of the important thing you don't like in the next few days I could see the speedometer and knew that this system and is capable of being happier, better balanced and enhance its ability to channel pure spiritual vitality. The Reiki wanted to know that they find it and with further education and also researched the different sources of information regarding this treatment.
Before disease is a natural and safe method of healing.Of course, you can apply this healing art was re-discovered by Makao Usui, who is going to be felt during the duration you want to pet it, play a powerful technological tool that alters the brain's dominant frequency, by the placing of hands aspect. They have had a compulsive need to find the best prescription for repeat healings. Those were 5 differences between the top of people's heads who haven't asked for Reiki, she was able to help you advance more quickly and learn from a distance and pass on sense of balance and surrounding all with harmony.According to the clinic to undertake the operation, was an effective image for him to learn Reiki and loving it, I hear you asking.
Reiki Master Nj
It's a technique I developed called the Chikara-Reiki-Do has been altered in any aspect of Reiki energy.Reiki for over ten years and there is a natural healing method - frequently, both reiki practitioners use is not unclothed at all.As we get from the moment a day that just feels right for you to that individual's doubt or ignorance of their faiths and perceptions.Thankfully, death rates from breast cancer can cause emotional, mental and/or spiritual level. It has been brought under the lens of a pragmatist and a lot more simple procedure than what you need.
Until now no book has tackled these questions and to the level where your Reiki training is referred to as Dr. Usui, and all events.Once your whole being, rather than imagining a guided meditation that is needed to be prepared mentally for the Healing Energy is not the laws of science that can be self-administered.Although there have been called to open your heart needs to go through it.Nor do many really delve into the chakra system, I suspected that this will be highly obliged for my many long drives to northern California, I began to relax. This energy is needed to obtain a license to teach Reiki?

Literary lenses
Historical/Biographical Lens:
From this lens, The Great Gatsby represents the hope for a future, and the American Dream feeling on the United States in the 1920’s, also the strong influence of the Jazz culture, being an important element on that period of time. Gatsby represents many of the experiences lived by Fitzgerald on his path to become successful, success for Gatsby and Fitzgerald was something very important, in order they could provide everything that was necessary for the girls they were in love with, understanding Daisy and Zelda represent an upper social class, with no limitations on their lifestyle. Also there is many elements they indicated on the Novel, that put us on that historical moment, such as the lifestyle in every social status, which were divided at that time, and even some strong racial opinions, as Tom Buchanan’s. Another important element from the historical lens of the novel, is the alcohol prohibition on the United States, Gatsby was identified as a “bootleggers”, an illegal producer and distributor of alcohol, which explain his early success and fast rise to his wealthy status.
Psychological Lens:
The novel psychological lens is something very important, because the novel described the way every character evolve and change over the time, explaining their differences and ways to deal when facing different kind of situations. Nick, our narrator, is a character committed by not judging other people, but this also made him being involved in situations, where previous judgment would prevent him from having bad experiences.
Daisy Buchanan represent the oppressed and low self esteem, a character first commanded by Tom, and then by Gatsby, this is shown when Gatsby ask her to say that she had never love tome, but she really can't because Daisy’s character is a character that is usually dominated by other, reason that also explain why she had an affair with Gatsby after being married, she goes from being commanded form one person to another, and hardly taking decision on her own.
Jordan Baker represents the hypocrisy, she is not taking strong decisions and always looking to fit good in any situation, wants to be friend on everyone, or at least being involved in everybody life.
Tom buchanan is an abusive character, a bully. He is always doing what he wants no matter how it will affect others, as Daisy, and the way she explain her suffering over her marriage. His mistress Myrtle, is also a victim of his lies, manipulation and even fiscal violence.
Gatsby is a character who has overcome many situations to change his reality and move from his social reality, not only becoming wealthy, but improving his behaviour and education, defined as a the “substantiality of a man”. But this same behaviour and focus for reaching success, made him not quit on his radical ideal of love for Daisy, transforming from a passional love to an obsession, that would ruin all his success and eventually kill him.
It’s important to understand, the element of the narrator on this novel, would always put al the characters with some previous scope on their behaviour, even when Nick Carraway say that He is committed with making no opinions about other individuals, judgment can be presented at some point with the poster of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg, and how this eyes perceived some events, “I followed him over a low white-washed railroad fence and we walked back a hundred yards along the road under Doctor Eckleburg’s persistent stare”.  The eyes of Dr. Eckleburg are presented as witness of everything and everyone over the time. Understanding that our behaviour would be always observed.
Gender Lens.
From a  gender perspective, we can see how woman are objects for man. Woman on this novel are not able to show their potential, they are shown as the company of a man, who successful or not, might provide everything they need. Woman at that time does not has as many rights and privileges in society as man had in that moment of history. Daisy and Myrtle, represent possessions for Tom, reason why he never respect or take in consideration his behaviour with them. Daisy and Myrtle are satisfied with many of there material needs, but not respected, treated as another object or another transaction. Even in the way Gatsby loves, making Daisy deny any feeling for Tom “She never loved you, do you hear?” he cried. “She only married you because I was poor and she was tired of waiting for me. It was a terrible mistake, but in her heart she never loved anyone except me!” The Great Gatsby, F Scott Fitzgerald, Gatsby defend his love from Daisy, but as soon she said her opinion, she is ignored, by Gatsby repeating over and over again that she must tells what he thinks is the reality. The idea of Daisy loving someone else while Gatsby was all that time in love with her, can not fit on his concept passion.
This is a novel that is clearly showing the position of the woman in the society as an accessory for a man life, for having fun a kids. When the novel is showing a  woman with a different behaviour, such as Jordan Baker, is described the representation of hypocrisy and selfish, by not being pulled for any man and having no particular interest more than her life.
Socio-Economic Lens:
Evaluating this novel from a socio-economic lens, offers to understand a variety of topics related, such as justice, power, greed, betrayal, social status, economic status, the American dream and so on. But as soon We understand how characters are described, the importance for this novel is the social stratification. Defining every social class, and lifestyle, but it can be simplified with the division of three Group, No money, Old Money and New money.
The Old money represent the class with privilege and connections in the society, having a status not only made by their economic situation, but always by the time they have in this station and how this allowed them to have many different opportunities and connections, allowing them to do everything they want, some times being over the justice what would be applied to characters from other social groups. It’s important to say, that even when the Old Money and the New money can be similar, the main difference is explained with their behaviours, understanding this two groups live with similar possibilities but in different places of education, defined in their location in the city, West Egg and East Egg. Old Money individuals tend to be judgmental and superficial.
The New money represent individuals who have overcome their luck and made fortunes, but they lack of the behaviour pattern made by generations with money, and connections to legitimate their status, they could have the same resources as Old money, but act in a different, way, this can be represented by the parties hosted by Gatsby.
No money group, is mainly identified with description of the Valley of Ashes. No money group represent a group of people who mostly lack of hope and opportunities, even the name of the placed where they are mainly located, valley of ashes, made our imaginary of this group lack of colours, as they do with opportunities, resources or motivation. Their situations, made characters as Myrtle Wilson, to do things they wouldn’t accept just to get closer to the possibility of being out of their reality, being used by Tom Buchanan as a pleasure accessory.
Another social classification of this novel, its a group represented by Nick Carraway, coming from a family with a bit of wealth, but not as much as Gatsby or Tom. It is important to understand this group, because nick represent the balance, not judging even when had more possibilities than others, and not being too suspicious about other success.
Archetypal Lens:
With the Archetypal lens we can identified each of them with the characters present on this novel.
The hero is Gatsby, exhibit goodness and claim to be in the chase of a fair idea, it later becomes in an obsession having our hero to a fatal end.
The innocent and youth, are demonstrated also with the way Nick does not make judgment about other, and with the description of a young Gatsby who never stop chasing his dream to become a  wealthy and refined gentleman to get his beloved Daisy back on his life.
The mentor, is represented by different characters, the first one to be on this archetypal is Nick’s Dad, who's advice would model the way He does not make any judgment and the narrative of the novel. In the mentor archetypal can also be found Dan Cody, who would model the potential of Gatsby to become successful.
Tom Buchanan, fits the villain, representing the moral corruption and the lack of respect about other that are not like him, by this meaning not his sex, social status, economic status and even his race. His position in this archetypal also can be seen when out hero, Gatsby, try to overcome and destroy him, with his strategy of getting Daisy back to his life.
Gatsby also represent the journey, the emotional quest our hero must undergo to achieve the greatness.
This novel, ends with the tragedy of our hero, Gatsby, who after overcoming his fate and showing great resilience to be a successful and refined gentleman, fall in to the obsession idea of the love he feels for Daisy and what she must feel for him, causing a series of unfortunate events leading to a tragic end, which is the accident involving the death of Myrtle, and after Toms blames Gatsby on a confusing situation, the murder of Gatsby by George Wilson.
Love archetypal plays an important role on this Novel, because it is Gatsby motivation to make everything happen, after he met Daisy, before going to the war, there was no future without her included, which made him do everything possible, chasing his vision of future overcoming all the situations on his life to be good enough for a girl with the social Status of Daisy. It’s also important to describe that love is also demonstrated in another way, on the description that Nick is doing when He is talking about Gatsby. It is love described from a friendship perspective, even taking care of Gatsby funeral when he is murdered.

what you think of leorio character many people said he annoying but in the manga he was show to be great ally who was strong, reliable and caring individual compare to the remake they made his character less likeable
thebae!!
Jfc Ilove him. I love him a lot, he’s such a great character. But ye, 2011 did himdirty. I personally loved him when i watched the 2011 anime, but when I readthe manga I realized how much the anime seriously shitted on him. He’s evenmore likeable in the Manga and he deserved far better.
Igenerally need more precise question to start rambling, but i’ll try from thispoint. But this will be a little more confusing that general (and i got tired toward the end so i stopped) but here.
And i’ll put it under cut because it’s Leorio and i’ll ramble.
Thething is that, Leorio has a position in the manga that is mostly the one of thecaretaker - a trope that is much more often attributed to women in Shounen. He’s the doctor guy, he’s the one who doesn’t show off his powers all thatmuch, who’s a little late in comparison to the others, who usually have a brutestrength with his medical knowledge. But he’s also often therefore the one toemotionally react to the plot and what happens around him.
And people hates thiskind of archetype. People call this kind of character useless when they areextremely important and inspirational.
Leoriois the everyman. Out of the four main characters, he’s the one the audience canrelate to. How many jokes are there out there of Leorio attempting a deadlyexam with just a knife just to pay his school bills? An icon.
Butlike…. That’s why it’s important?
Thereforehe’s the one who’s actions are the most grounded in reality, in real life’shardship. The other main three stories are really specific to its genre, butLeorio’s? Anyone could have Leorio’s backstory.
Whathe makes out of it is inspirational and gives a lot of heart to his actionstoward his friends. He is a support, he is helping. He’s doing everything hecan by his own means.
Andwhen he’s trying to catch up with the other ones who are ways too unreal? Hegives his everything, he faces the problem right in the eyes and refuse to runaway.
Morethan being useless, the worst thing I think i’ve ever read about Leorio isthat “he’s a coward”. In which fucking universe?
Leoriois always ready to fight. He was ready to attack that old lady for askingsomething as absurd and careless as saying you would have to give up on yourdaughter or your son. He’s admirable because he fights for what is right, forwhat is supposed to be. If Gon won just because he didn’t know what to answer, and that Kurapika found the answer, Leorio won because he would refuse it toeven happen in a possible scenario. And even if it’s a grandma, we’re talkingabout an examinator of the Hunter Exam. It could have ruined Leorio’s life, butthere was no way he could let it fly.
Whenthey met the Kiriko, he stayed behind to help one of them in the house, andreassured him. Where is that a coward to you? He acted like a doctor, he tookcare of him more quickly than anyone, and especially he showed care, and didn’tonce think his friends couldn’t handle it. He has an undying loyauty to thepeople he likes.
He fucking went back to fight Hisokaafter Hisoka murdered a lot of people. Because he couldn’t run while saidinjustice was happening right in front of his eyes. He could have died, but hedidn’t want to just run away for his own safety. Reckless? Yes. Coward?no.
Notto mention on Zevil’s Island, how he wanted to get against Ponzu alone, becausehe didn’t want to hurt anyone else, and he actually asked the other ones to leavehim if any problem came to happen. Because Leorio values others better thanhimself.
Meanwhilepeople forget that the only reason he went to York New was to see his friendsagain. Kurapika was there for the Troupe, Killua and Gon for the game, Leorio? Onlyfor them. And especially, he went unaware Killua and Gon were looking for a game, but aware that if they reunite, they will be running after Serial Killers. He knewthat. And he helped them as much as he could in that situation,t o the point ofhunting down the Troupe while actually Nenless, and fucking challenging themwhen he plays bait in order to save Gon and Killua. He also manages to calmdown Kurapika when Kurapika almost snaps at Chrollo.
Leorio’scourage and bravery had been the heart of his character. He has an undyingloyauty for his friends, and is fighting for what he thinks is right. How isthat a bad thing? How is that a coward?
When it comes about himbeing “useful/useless” first, I completely hate this term in general.People aren’t things to use. Their worth isn’t found in whenever or not they make themselves useful. Their worth is in their actions and what they decide to do.
Leorioalways decided to do the right thing.
Themost important point of Leorio’s storyline is that, at his heart, it’s a storyof a past-trauma which recovery had been healthy. When you compare to the otherthree who all live very badly their current and past trauma, Leorio is the onewho got traumatized and got something good out of it. He forced himself in apath in which he could help other people again. He recovered as much as hecould, and he dedicated himself to others. He’s doing what is right, what isjust.
Ina story that has such heavy stories of Trauma, someone like him is important inthe group. He’s a representation of how things can get better, how things willget better. He encourages them in a good direction when he can. He’s a caringand wonderful character.
Butfans, they don’t care about it. They want to see blood, they want to seesomeone be punched. It’s no surprise a lot of people saying they dislike Leoriosay the only thing they like him for is for punching Ging. It’s because thosepeople don’t value anything else than Leorio’s strength and ability to kickass. Which to me is fucked up because it’s not the most important part ofLeorio’s character.
It’sno wonder the most focus we had on Leorio is the Election arc – an arcultimately based on more profound actions to help on the long term.  Leorio’s spotlights is on his words, on howhe wants to help the people he loves, and how he feels like he doesn’t belongthere.
Leoriodidn’t get to first place just because it was funny he punched Ging. In a worldof secrecy and selfishness like the one of the hunters, Leorio distinguishedhimself by not only not caring about showing his powers, but by also beingextremely opened about what he wants. What he calls being selfish, which isjust to take as much care as possible for his friends. It’s because of thatthat the Hunter World ends up believing and cheering for him. Because he’s notjust brawn and no brain – he’s a man who’s driven by his heart, and will alwaysdo the right thing when he has to do it. Someone who will fight for it, even ifhe has to antagonize himself (or so he wishes), in order to help others.
It’swhy everyone ended up cheering for him, that’s why having him in the Zodiac wasa clever political move from Cheadle. Because Leorio is actively being arepresentative of how much you can care about someone.
Onlyjudging him on his strength and his powers is doing a major disservice to hischaracter who is much, much more than that.
Somethingalso a few people seems to forget: at the end of the Heaven Arena Arc, Wingtells Killua and Gon that Leorio won’t be approached by a potential Nen teacheruntil he passed his med school exam, which he passed after the York New arcwhen he left. However, when Killua and Gon meet with Leorio again, Leorio tellsthem he mastered Ten. And he actually thinks he mastered all Nen, which makesme think no one actually told him about his training. Meaning he did that alone.
Inthe year between the York New Arc and the Election Arc, Leorio passed hisexams, and learned Nen, in a very complex way. Remember how in the Greed IslandArc, there was a guy who could also use an Emitter technique on his punch topunch someone?  Except that to do that,he had to be in a limited space that he would have determined with his Nen,otherwise he wouldn’t be able to actually project his punch.
Leoriocan do that whenever he wants. Wherever he wants. Ging explains that histechnique is actually really complex and based on the vibration of the groundand of human being. It takes a lot of science understanding to come to thatwithout setting conditions. Not to mention, his technique was originallysettled in order to find out tumors into people’s body and heal them withouthaving to open the body, therefore reducing the cost of an operation.
Howis that not Badass?? Leorio took a concept we saw in the show assomething limited, that couldn’t be done freely, and showed that he couldand he would and he would do that to punish mean people and save people.  How is that not amazing?
Thebest in all of that, is that Leorio had always been strong. Stronger thanKurapika and Gon in fact. And there it comes into what the anime deleted andsadly people aren’t aware of. But Leorio is stronger than Gon and Kurapika – interm of strength, he can lift 4 tons, he’s muscular af. He could break the armof a mafia guy during the arm wrestling contests. Leorio is extremely strong, which is already incredible.
He’sjust in an universe where people use other way to be strong. A way he ended upcatching up on.
Andit’s not to mention that he’s extremely streetwise. The guy knows a lot aboutthe underground, about how to get what he wants. The guy is completely rulingthe auctions, and Killua even look up to him for that. Leorio is very good atgetting what he wants, and he always find clever ways to achieve it.
Theanime deleted all of that though. And that’s really pissing me off. Leorioactively works in order to help the kids to get the money to Greed Island – he’sthe one who establish them with a link to the mafia, he’s the one who iswatching over the auction, he’s the one who gets the information to find theTroupe. When Kurapika loses it, he’s the one to fix the situation, he’s the onewho plays bait with the Troupe, he’s the one who stop Kurapika from beingreckless, he’s the one who helps Kurapika feel better after he collapsed fordays. Remove Leorio from the York New arc and everything would have gone wrong.
Itjust baffles me that people can’t accept just genuinely kind and caringcharacters if they don’t kickass the way they want them to do it. Not everycharacters need to be a war-machine. And honestly, in a story that put so muchefforts into showing that the violence in which Gon, Kurapika and Killua engagethemselves into, is actually extremely hurtful and has consequences, I don’tsee how one can be mad at Leorio for not being like that either?
Leoriois an extremely interesting character. He holds a lot of himself inside, hefears sometimes of not being enough, but he tries. He always tries andhe always try to manage as much as possible.
Ijust don’t get what is there not to like? He can be harsh at first, but like. He’s still a teen? He evolved a lot in between the first hunter exam and theelection arc – he became more mature, more grounded. He’s achieving his goal, which is hella neat?
He’slikeable and fun. He learns a lot during the course of the manga.
I’mgetting a little tired and I’m going to repeat myself if I keep going, but I exploredmore of my thoughts there, there, there and there.
Iramble a lot about him in general and I just really love him and wish peoplewould see that you don’t have to actively kickass to be a good character.
…..expecially when you’re already as kickass as Leorio Paradinight.
 Take care nonny!

How Astrology Empowered Me To Break Up With A Narcissist
I sat dewy-eyed paying attention to my specialist Benita's retelling of the goddess Sedna's legend. It was both horrendous and empowering. Ultimately, she claimed, "In your chart, Sedna stands for where you see yourself as a victim. And also when you conquer that, you end up being past effective.'
I made a psychological note to investigate my natal chart.
At the same time, I was gobsmacked that my specialist was speaking in terms of astrology to me.
You see, it's always been a language I have actually lined up with. Albeit covered precariously in secret and also shame.
Raised in a Catholic family and also later on tackling the identification of 'psycho therapist' made me skeptical of my alternative personality, regardless of how inexplicably alluring I discovered astrology.
Loading my natal graph, I gulped. Sedna in the Seventh Residence: Your home of individual connections.
I lastly break without my deception. "P, he's been abusing you,' I informed myself. 'You have actually started to see on your own as a sufferer."
It was time to take my power back.
Unexpectedly, involving myself shame-free in astrology instructed me to enjoy myself. With that, I redeemed my power, making the choice that transformed my health, recovery and also job. I left my abuser and never recalled.
Today, I tell my story so you can find out the best ways to harness astrology to get to the epiphanies that can bring closure as well as conquer your existing challenges.
Where does your Sedna lie?
Benita says, "Right here is a female entrapped, beguiled and preyed on all her life, pull down by everyone. It is only at her transformation that we witness her true power-- siren power, when she finally allows go. Sedna instructs us that suffering is a selection".
Seeing Sedna in my House of Relationships drank me awake. I 'd unwittingly put myself in a placement to be abused. That would never ever have actually occurred had I not seen myself as a victim.
So, I threw myself right into a deep recovery journey, looking for the reasons my life had become just what it was. Our earliest experiences form the blueprints in our minds that lead us to repeat these experiences. Deep down our company believe that's what we deserve-- even if the rational mind understands better.
Sedna educated me to connect to my good friends once again, construct my company, and also grow my network. Little did I know that this was preparing me for my next action.
Where does Sedna reside in your chart? She'll inform you where to take your power back.
What is your Lilith telling you?
Six months later, I explored my natal Lilith.
I've constantly been attracted to the tale of Lilith, the siren who rejected to lie under Adam. If you're from an Abrahamic confidence, Lilith might sound terrifying to you. But actually, her archetype was bastardized as a diabolical vampire.
I gained from my favored astrologist, Mystic Medusa, that "Lilith materializes as an Amazonian power of glam, made up durability ... yet repress the energy and she can be your personal problem of rage and self-destruction.' Basically, 'Lilith is where you don't tow the line, where you were not sustained-- also deserted or abused-- and also where you've needed to compose the guidelines for on your own as you go along.'
My Lilith in Eighth Residence instructed me that I didn't have to be ashamed of my sexuality. Whenever I really did not put on awful clothing, my ex-partner would certainly embarassment me for alluring guys. My body felt polluted. It was time for me to recover it, so I started using outfits and red lipstick again.
Then my Lilith in Gemini showed me that I can be happy of my intelligence and also point of views once more. My ex-spouse would continually tell me that my achievements meant nothing, censoring my opinions, and answering for me whenever any person asked me about my career. Rather, I began to write for numerous publications, discovering to be comfy expressing my opinions. After that I told my story. I discovered that vulnerability is my resource of stamina as well as self-love.
Everyday when I get up to e-mails from ladies that tell me they have actually read my short articles and determined to kick their abuser out of their lives or begun to heal from panic attacks, I couldn't be much more grateful.
Do you have a Retrograde chart?
I 'd tried to leave my ex lover numerous times for many years, fed up with his possessiveness and fear. He pulled me back with a combination of playing the target: "I'm so old currently, I'm a failing in relationships, I'll become a monk,' persecutor: "You're so un-compassionate, doctor. Is this exactly how you treat your individuals?' and also rescuer: "You're too old to begin a new connection, you're previous your prime. I'm your hero.'
As time passed, the last one afraid me.
Every time I considered my body, I was advised that I had not been the lithe young woman I used to be. My neck was infested with cystic acne. I looked tired. I was copulating my ownerships concealed every night, never recognizing when I would certainly remain in threat. Of training course my body wasn't delighted.
Then there was the embarassment. Exactly how would I explain points to my friends as well as parents? How would people see me?
But I also understood that, at 29, my life was ripe for the picking. I had achieved a lot that I took pride in. And I had people in my life who enjoyed and supported me.
What ultimately made the difference was the discovery of my backward chart. At our time and also place of birth, some earths may be relocating in reverse, as denoted by the little 'R' beside their icon in our graphes. This suggests that we take in the lessons of that planet inwards, so we have a harder time. Having Pluto (transformation, power) in backward means that I resist the many makeovers in my life. As well as subsequently, they will certainly maintain occurring and testing me, up until I discover how to collaborate with them.
Astrologer Martin Schulman states that if you have even more compared to 3 retrograde earths in your natal chart, after that you're a late bloomer and your life starts after 30. I have five retrograde worlds. So I took that as a final indication from my graph to walk away from an abusive relationship.
Where is Pluto in transit?
" Beloved, Pluto is transiting via your IC. He's been there for ages' Benita informed me carefully, weeks prior to I finished my relationship.
Besides informing you where the sunlight, moon, and also worlds are when you were birthed, your chart likewise informs you exactly how these beautiful bodies are presently activating your natal energies as they take a trip with the skies. Mystic Medusa states that these transits "motivate new dimensions of life or enhance what is already strong within.
Pluto-- the mythological god of the abyss-- takes 248 years to transportation an entire chart, indicating that there are components of our chart that it will certainly never pass with via our lifetime.
Mystic Medusa explains the Pluto-IC transportation as a "super-strong, unbelievable transportation that influences a deep wish to live more authentically. Individuals could materialize one of the most incredible power to manage legacy family members problems and/or score a home that is absolutely them.' Benita says that individuals can end up being homeless or shed their jobs and also connections during this change. Indeed, I virtually became homeless, yet that's a tale for an additional day.
I realized that Pluto was also traversing my Capricorn (structures and also systems), and also Mars (determination and also assertion), suggesting I was having a three-way hit at the exact same time. So I made a decision to collaborate with Pluto-- purging every single framework, partnership and belief that was no more serving me. For beginners, I left my ex lover. Forever.
Of course, I really felt a feeling of loss. Our minds are hardwired to avoid loss, so day-to-day I 'd apply and also diffuse Doterra's CONSOLE essential oil mix. It consists of rose to invoke unconditional love, ylang ylang, which connects us to our heart for healing, as well as incense, which rejoins us with our true selves. Remarkably, these oils are additionally auspicious for dealing with the planet Pluto.
Astrology is more than just our sun indication-- the things we inspect in magazines as well as papers. The way the worlds, homes and indications engage comprises an intricate network of insights to ourselves. Self-awareness is the structure of development. Simply as in therapy or mentoring, we frequently reveal the origin of something as well as discover ourselves in a new means, astrology is one more effective device.
As Mystic Medusa claims, "Our birth chart is a convenient means to focus on toughness and weaknesses, patterns that stream truly well for you and also those that need even more job to function efficiently.' It illuminates several of our obstacles, which could be brightened into our most significant sources of stamina.
Today, my life could not be a lot more different.I not have panic attacks. I live in an area of elegance, and just have individuals in my life who enjoy and support me. My career is growing, as well as I deal with customers passionate concerning changing their lives. My body has never looked better. Most significantly, the embarassment is gone.
I know since I am not my tale, however instead the evolution of my experiences.
Astrology educated me that it's risk-free for me to own who I am-- to talk concerning astrology, self-love and also plant medication openly in my job-- the pieces of myself I 'd been declining all my life.

Chapter 5: Ravage 2099 #2
Tumblr media
Previously Paul-Phillip Ravage is a naive idiot straight out of a Silver Age comic who lost his job and reputation because he believes that Alchemax is NOT a corrupt company.  Now he is the Garbage Avenger: a Brooklyn sounding anarchist who dress up in trash and drives a garbage truck.  Not really a good first impression IMO.
The comic opens up with this ugly mofo!
Tumblr media
Y’know I kind of want to give the artist prop for making this Mutroid look like the many characters that only Jack Kirby would draw.  And yes the dialogue didn’t improve . . . okay they slightly improve but now we have to deal with Silver Age style text boxes that always opens up the story.
Anyway Stormer wants to overthrow Dethstryk rule over Hellrock, and doesn’t take shit from anyone who disagrees with him.
Tumblr media
Getting tired of shit, Dethstryk decided to come down from his plaza and deal with the rabble rouser who thinks he’s tough shit . . . does anybody use rabble rouser anymore?
Tumblr media
Stormer attacks Dethstryke but comes to realize he was no match.
Tumblr media
youtube
So yeah Stormer realizes he’s no match for Dethstryk and surrenders like the bitch he is.
Tumblr media
He is totally an original character!  Clearly he isn’t a rip off to Doctor Doom and Magneto given the last panel!
But enough about him, let’s get to the main story where a bunch of cops talk shit about Ravage’s truck.
Tumblr media
Being the law abiding individual as painfully seen in the last comic, Ravage decided to ram his truck at the law enforcement . . . oh right, I forgot he became a loose cannon rebel at the end of the first comic.
Tumblr media
I like to think the reason why he is attacking the officers is because he didn’t take to kindly about what they said about his truck.
Tumblr media
Holy crap, I was just joking about his reasons for attacking the officers.  But judging by his dialogue, his truck is serious fucking business.
Tumblr media
And the Garbage Avenger threw a cog at the Public Eye officer like it was a Batarang.  Dear God, this story is actually picking up!  Why wasn’t THIS the first comic instead of that lame out dated bullshit that is the actual Ravage 2099 #1.
Seriously, I think I prefer Ravage as the Garbage Avenger more than him as some CEO to cop hippies.  It actually shows how the character live up to his name.  Especially in his monologue lampshading how much of a pushover he was for Alchemax.
Tumblr media
While driving his truck he notice an ad for the Ultimate Kevlar, which is some sort of blasterproof cloth. Knowing how useful that would be, he does like any liked minded American and loot the place with his TRUKK!
Tumblr media
Our hero ladies and gentleman . . . though granted he is stealing it from an obviously corrupt corporation and he is basically the Stone Cold Steve Austin of the story.  So I’ll let it slide.  Too bad Public Eye won’t as they give chase to the Garbage Avenger after receiving reports of breaking and entering..
But the question still remains: is the Ultimate Kevlar really blaster proof?
Tumblr media
Yes. Yes it is.
Tumblr media
I don’t think anybody with a sense of fashion would want to wear something that has a “Ravage Seal of Approval”.
Meanwhile Andethrope meets with an officer reporting on his failure to detain Ravage.  Mook execution in 4 . . . 3 . . . 2 . . .
Tumblr media
Good to see that he’s still acting like a cliche Bond villain.
Meanwhile on Hellrock, Dethstryke receives a premonition of Ravage being a threat to his rule from his soothe sayer.
Tumblr media
Guess he didn’t heard the news that Ravage is now the Garbage Avenger.  Who speaking of is at a dump figuring out a way to hide his truck.  Not because he is a fugitive and is identified driving the thing.  But really is because in the future it is taboo for Humans to have romantic relationship with Vehicles.  And since the love between Ravage and his trukk is publicly known, they are marked for being heathens for even
Tumblr media
Aw.  He really knows how to sweet talk a gir- I mean trukk.  Trukk’s gender is trukk btw.  Can’t be misgendering trukk.
Too bad he’s not the only one who has a truck fetish.  A bunch of vagrants ambushed Ravage so they can have their way with his trukk!
Tumblr media
Yeah don’t you dare try to rape his trukk!  If anybody is going to fuck it, it’s gonna be Ravage!
I’ll just skip ahead and tell you that he kicked all their asses.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile (again) Dethstryk contacts Anderthrope over Ravage still being alive and demands the Bond Villain to lure him to Hellrock.
Tumblr media
Oh my God!  He’s going to kidnap Ravage’s one true love: HIS TRUKK!!!
. . . Or that hot secretary or whatever.  She’s not a trukk.  She’s just some model sized Asian lady in a mini skirt and open chest.  How can she compete with a trukk!
Anyway,  Tiana isn’t happy with Ravage keeping her locked up in the apartment for her protection and notes how she is totally over him.  We all know you are jealous of trukk, admit it.
Tumblr media
Just as she walks out the door, they are ambushed by Alchemax mercenaries/Public Eye officers (couldn’t tell the difference but I assumed Public Eye are under Alchemax payroll).  All of the sudden, Ravage was justified in telling a woman to stay in her place.
Tumblr media
Naturally a fight scene occurs . . . nuff said.
Tumblr media
Knowing Stan Lee’s way of writing action girls back in the 60s, she’s not going to be of much use.
Tumblr media
Well I’ll be damned.  Guess Stan’s is channeling the way he wrote actions girls like Spider-Woman and She Hulk during the 70s.  She’s an actual badass and not completely useless.  Wish I could say the same for Dack . . .
Tumblr media
You’re black and fighting, who I assume, are future cops.  You DON’T have the type advantage here.
Realizing they are getting their asses beat, the Alchemax cops decided to use their transit beam to capture Tiana.
Tumblr media
In hindsight, they should of done that to begin with.  The comic ends with Ravage swearing to save Tiana and the Alchemax goons revealing where they are heading.
Tumblr media
This comic is definitely an improvement over the last one.  Don’t get me wrong, it still have it share of flaws including the Hellrock scenes feeling disjointed from the main story, the Silver Age Style still persisting in the writing via dialogue, and not much story development as to why pollution is such a big deal in the future and what use is it for the Mutroids.  But I do enjoy it for the shift in the main character’s personality who kind of reminds me of Stone Cold Steve Austin at this point.  Seriously, it manage to turn this story around for me as a no nonsense rebel who will fuck up anything and anyone who gets in his/her way is always an awesome yet destructive archetype to see.  Not to mention Tiana’s character evolution as she doesn’t act to dependent on Ravage like she did in the first issue and calls him out on his over protection; hope this doesn’t go away.  All in all, it’s a better introduction to the series than the first issue.
Next time: Doom 2099 #1.  And now I need to change my pants due to all this love nectar in it.

Sameen Shaw - An Essay
Shaw’s a really unique character within the television landscape, I feel. She’s a bisexual, non-neurotypical woman of colour doctor badass whose heritage is discussed and who is never demonized for the way her mind works. In a lot of ways, I think Shaw is, on paper, a character that would be a villain in most shows and films. The ex-government assassin with an atypical way of processing emotions that wants some revenge. I feel like I’ve seen that archetype used as a villain dozens of times, and I think the fact that Shaw fits that trope and yet is a hero really makes her stand out as a character.
Tumblr media
While I felt like Emerson and Caviezel, to a lesser extent Henson and Chapman, needed a little bit of time to grow into their roles, Shaw crashed onto the scenes with Shahi feeling like she had done this role for years. I believe I read that she only had two weeks or so to prepare, but man does it not show on screen. I’m coming back to a point I made in my ones for Finch and Reese, but I think it’s perhaps done the best here, the restraint of the performance. Shaw’s not a showy character really, she’s very understated and the performance manages to handle that perfectly. I think people underrate sometimes just how hard it is to give a minimal performance like this, focusing on more showy ones, but Sarah Shahi really kills it. Her best performance though for me, bar none, is in 6,741. She manages, over the episode and the season, to seamlessly blend Shaw as we know her with the effects of what Samaritan has done to her. She’s acting different, but still very Shaw. Nothing about it betrays her character, yet allows for further insight into her as some of her feelings she’s been wallowing in for so long through the endless simulations are brought closer to the surface. It’s just all around a brilliantly done performance, and one I think deserves more attention than it often gets.
The Mayhem Twins dynamic really brings a lot to the series, injecting a lot of life into everything. Not that the series didn’t have it before, but Reese and Shaw have great chemistry and it’s fun to watch them bounce off each other. Like Shaw fills the role of Reese’s deceased sister, and Reese fills the void left by Nathan for Finch, Reese for Shaw fills the spot where Cole used to be. Her partner, and the one person she considered an exception to her disinterest in having friends, something Reese, as well as Fusco, Carter and Finch become to her as well. Their dynamic really comes back to a line he says to Shaw in Trojan Horse, “In our line of work, you walk in the dark. Doesn’t mean we have to walk in it alone.” And I think there’s no better way to sum it up than that line.
After she was revealed alive in M.I.A., and especially following Martine tormenting Root a little in Asylum by telling her about how Shaw pointed them towards her cochlear implant, I remember a lot of discussion about Shaw being turned. I am immensely glad they didn’t go down that route for her. I feel like it would have felt a bit too typical, a bit too easy, and would have gone against her character. What we got instead, with Shaw sacrificing herself over and over again, just like she did in If-Then-Else, that felt like Shaw. Instead of going down the somewhat lazy, in my opion, turning her to working for Samaritan route, they stayed true to her character as well as brought out a new dimension in Shaw. She experienced killing herself instead of Root-but-not some 7,000 times, and when she gets back, we can really see how the experience changed her particularly in terms of this relationship. Prior to everything Samaritan put her through, I don’t think Shaw would be the type to enjoy the softer things, moments like Root and her holding hands in TDTWWA. And when Root’s being her usual self in the face of a gunfight and flirting with Shaw, instead of the usual brushing it off, Shaw smiles. She missed this. Because the simulated Root was never really Root, and not just in the fact she wasn’t real. It was always just a bit off. Root wouldn’t be trying to get Shaw to sleep with her minutes after she returns, for example. None of them were quite right, and while Shaw’s not 100% when she gets back if this is real or if the simulations had just gotten really good, either way, she missed the real thing. Seeing how Shaw’s stripped down by the simulations is heartbreaking to watch, but brilliantly pulled off, allowing for a new lens on her as a character.
The Root and Shaw relationship is without a doubt my favourite romantic pairing in anything. It’s a relationship where both participants are fully formed, fascinating characters in their own rights and doesn’t feel the need to play by any will they/won’t they, love triangles created to pad things out. I wish more TV shows would approach relationships with this level of maturity, instead of relying on tired tactics to drag it on. And what I really love is how it develops them both, how they challenge each other. With Shaw, I think we see a little bit of Root’s perception of The Machine having rubbed off on her in Death Benefit. When the team is confronted with the Trolley Problem, Finch falls in the camp of uncertainty but thinking murder is out of the question, Reese doesn’t trust The Machine as herself but trusts the rules Finch gave her, Shaw meanwhile is willing to trust in The Machine. Maybe it’s just me, but I think seeing how she and Root work and how everything that Root did with The Machine’s instructions had a larger purpose that she didn’t see at the time but they couldn’t complete the mission without grew that trust. I think it’s also what made Shaw the ideal pick for an analogue interface for The Machine down the line. And then there’s a smaller little development of teasing in their relationship, from Root flirting and teasing and Shaw looking irritated through season 3, to Honour Among Thieves when Shaw gets to be the one doing the teasing. One of the many things I love about their relationship is that it’s not everything their characters are, but at the same time, it’s big part and something that you can’t remove from the series without it falling apart. Seasons 4B and 5 can’t work without it, because this show understands that it needs to write for characters, not plot. The plot is informed by the characters, their wants, their desires, their fears, their hesitations, their impulses and decisions, those things are not dictated by the plot. Both these points are fine lines to walk, but this show pulls it off and makes it look easy.
“What is love if not being seen?” The Machine poses to Finch in Synecdoche, and I think this is a line that perhaps applies to Shaw most of all. The show, and Root within the show, never felt the need to change Shaw. It handled her non-specific aneurotypical personality respectfully, not acting like it was something that needed to be cured or gotten past. It wasn’t something wrong with her, it’s just who she is.  And as The Machine says in return 0, she’s special and loved by Root for who she is, not as some kind of project, not as someone with something wrong with them, for being Shaw, exactly the way she is.

Nobody asked for it but I’m giving it to you anyway:
The inspiration-behind-the-trolls master post:
Damath: I saw a lot of haughty seadwellers super proud of their status and thought ‘what if there was a seadweller who lost at being a seadweller’ and damath was hatched. I basically wanted an asshole desperately clinging to his old status, and he hasn’t changed too drastically since then.
Haydel: I listened to Barrett’s Privateers and became inspired to write my own ‘pirate’ troll. She was fairly flat when I first wrote her. She didn’t even have a proper profile until recently despite being first designed several years ago. Originally she was just a drunkard pirate with bad aim, but now she’s a drunkard dancing pirate with middlin’ aim and a strong desire to kidnap trolls to be her lackeys so she can prove herself the toughest of all seadwellers.
Vollia: I dunno, I think someone literally just suggested ‘what if there was a troll based off one of those repo-men shows’ on MSPAF at one point and Vollia was hatched. She’s changed drastically since then. Original incarnation was still a drinker, but only to deal with the stupidity she dealt with on a regular basis. She was also fairly bloodthirsty and absolutely loathed subjugglators for ‘ruining’ the good name of indigos
Deviex: I was fresh off playing Bioshock and I wanted a lunatic doctor of my own. He was never a direct Bioshock rip-off, but I slipped in a few steinman jokes here and there and unfortunately that got him l labelled as such. He originally had a yellowblooded moirail that kept his homicidal medical intentions in check, but since her RPer turned into a huge prat stopped roleplaying, that is long gone and Deviex has since had no one to stop him from flying into a rage when told someone won’t submit for medical testing.
Remiva: ‘what if there was a highblood who made it his job to deal with these nice highbloods?’ I think I originally just designed him as an example profile for a fantroll help blog I used to run (boy that was a dumpster fire). Since I liked the concept of someone being a deliberate asshole to lowbloods for the sake of status while stabbing other people in the back to prove some philosophical point, I fleshed out his profile completely.
Charsa: Originally designed for a dieselpunk SGRUB rp that never took off, she used to be a very energetic and excitable inventor who routinely broke everything she made out of excitement. In the translation between that and here, she lost her excitable nature and become more tired than anything, partially as a result of how her AB turned out. Which is all well and good, I prefer the lazy/tired inventor archetype to the excited one. Plus she kept all the eccentric nature of what she builds with a mildly amused, nearly asleep-college-student attitude.
Kormut: He was my first fantroll. I just wanted a highblood that couldn’t be considered overpowered since I was super worried about accidentally being some sort of newbie rper who busted in with overpowered trolls that everyone auto-loved. So I gave him inexplicable bad luck. Some people guessed that his bad luck was entirely in his head, but it really wasn’t. He’s stayed pretty much the same since his inception, though his lusus turned from a Dune-esque sandworm into a slightly mutated lusus cougar instead.
Sapant: Hatched from the idea of ‘take an obscure character from a popular work and make them into a fantroll.’ He’s Owl Eyes from The Great Gatsby, albeit with his niceness significantly toned down to fit in with troll attitudes. He’s too new to have changed at all!
Newsen: One of the first new trolls I made following my impromptu hiatus. I saw a pair of torn jeans and a wicked hairstyle on a sprite sheet while listening to Dirty Laundry, so I figured a reporter intentionally sabotaging everyone else’s success for his own gain would be pretty amusing, especially if he was pretty disgusting himself.
Yegeri: He’s somewhat inspired by the Pinkerton Detective Agency (His name is formed from two different prominent Pinkerton detectives). You know, before they became some weird private security group. When they busted rum runners and such. He doesn’t get much any use because I’m not a big fan of the sprite I made for him, but I still like his personality.
Hovend: I wanted Yegeri to have a distaff counterpart that was absolutely not suited for police work whatsoever. What would happen if the worst person possible was thrust into a position where he had to do what he hated most? The answer is apparently regress into anime and origami folding.
Xrumon: Not gonna lie, I made him because I was annoyed with a certain someone’s representation of a troll brought back from near-death in robot form. Not to worry dear weird person reading this, it’s nobody that follows me. Their representation had the troll...blandly accept being saved, and they weren’t at all concerned with the ramifications of their new body. So I said ‘I can do it better’ and wrote up the mean spirited son of a bitch we all don’t know and certainly don’t love today. Turns out being trapped in a robot shell sucks.
Portec: There’s an episode of American Dad where Stan really, really, really wanted to get a helicopter or some shit. I saw that and decided I wanted a helicopter troll because it’d be funny (That’s a common theme). So Portec became reality, formed with a strong desire for coffee and a reckless attitude, he...really hasn’t changed all that much.
Deveii: He was originally a self-insert! Oh no! He had my worst personality traits of course, namely being my absolutely awful temper at the time along with cowardice. Thankfully he quickly grew way the hell away from being a self-insert through the power of Zagaya (his first moirail) taking him under his wing. He always retained his bad temper, however, and accidentally gained an affinity for dating highbloods.
Evelsi: I think rai dared me to make a troll that only spoke in like 50′s slang or some shit like that. For a while, that was basically his quirk! I had a whole page written up of various slang terms to use, while Evelsi was basically ‘hey remember the American 50′s? Weren’t those times wild?’ the troll. From that I gradually added onto him so that he became more of a rock n’ roll troll with a penchant for helping others gain friends/quadrants, and pretty much entirely dropped the 50′s schtick.
Remune: “I want a bartender that nearly kills people with what he makes.” That’s pretty much it. His sprite is one I’m really proud of, even if I used a base. His hair was a total bitch but I love how it turned out. He hasn’t changed much, though he originally had telekinesis as a power. I changed that to seismic sense so that I could play it into his alcoholism (Booze deadens the constant noise other trolls generate for him).
Gaveyo: I kinda just wanted an explorer type troll? I listened to the Legionnaire’s Lament by the decemberists and wanted a troll that evoked that song. A lot of my trolls are inspired by music. At first he was just gonna be a lil grumpy and v. tired and v. world weary, but he somehow turned into fat dickhead who ruins people’s nights for laughs. At least he kept his trait of collecting trinkets and mementos. Fun fact, his last name is a rearrangement of the word cloyed, which iirc means something that is really sweet or overly sappy. I have actual reasons for keeping it that way.
Chamlo: I wrote him for a special RP where mutants/undesirable would get to duke it out on an island. The last one standing would be allowed to rejoin the troll empire at large, having been granted the gift of life! And every other troll in the empire got to watch a sick, extreme version of survivor! Unfortunately the RP didn’t get enough applicants and then the MSPAF got nuked so oh well.
Adabon: I listened to Delta (C2C) and suddenly got inspired to make a troll who was a fan of bombs. But since that felt a little cliche, I wondered what else could one do w/ bombs. And then I remembered seeing a cartoon where some fool used an explosives challenge to paint a shitload of stuff at once and figured that’d be pretty fun! It worked out pretty well overall, I’d say.
Yarrex: Second fantroll ever. Most of his characterization came from when I first used him on MSPAF. I can’t remember if the cafe interactions or his profile came first. Either way he soon turned into a troll obsessed with balance. Then I did the stupidest thing ever and wrote myself into an Edgy Fanfic Corner(tm) by burning his hive down and killing his lusus because itsbadwriting.gif. Fortunately, people still liked him for whatever reason. I’ve retconned all of that so his lusus is quite alive and his hive is still standing, but I still have him reference his hive at least getting singed sometimes as a nod.
Argumi: “Boy, reading everyone’s thoughts would actually be a pretty horrible power. I know! I’ll make it so that you can’t turn it off! And you’re an empath!” And so began Argumi’s suffering. Most of my trolls are ‘inspired’ by sudden thoughts, really. First he was just an empath, then he turned into a mind reader, and now he’s an empath AND a mind reader. His life just gets worse every rewrite. But at least he’s more functional now than he used to be.
Famynn: Was written originally to be the Totally Awesome Doctor(tm) in a pirate RP. He would have performed surgery listening to stirring operas and complained about everyone else being little kids. Basically an incredibly old fashioned, anachronistic, asshole. But then the owner of said rp who shall remain nameless repeatedly made me lower his caste so their friends could get in instead. So he became brown and hopelessly incompetent as a doctor. Then the RP ended because oops the earlier mentioned prat was in it and the owner was no better. Later I used him in a better RP called Hunters (of the lost planet) where he was still the ship’s doctor. That’s where he got his jealous nature towards highbloods from! He’s been pretty much the same since, although his Alternian form has no doctor incliniations.
Marnin: I listened to Convoy or something one too many times and wanted a badass trucker troll. He was Not Great(tm). Really flat for my tastes and I’m a little embarrassed at how one-note he was. I was recently convinced to revive him by someone who actually liked him. I used it as a chance to completely revamp his personality (i.e. actually give him one) and change what he did completely. He’s not the same troll he used to be.
Abnage: I just wanted a con artist, really. His sprites belonged to a failed troll concept I tried out for a while, involving a hobo that flagrantly violated society’s norms to make some dumbass moral point. Unfortunately, that would mean being nice on purpose, and since everyone else’s trolls were nice at the time, the point was lost in translation.
Gerrel: Third fantroll ever! I wanted the ‘ideal’ lowblood, in a similar vein to how Kormut was a purposefully underpowered blueblood. I didn’t want people calling me mean names if I made an upstart lowblood, so I went in the opposite direction. Just about the only personality trait he retains from his original incarnation is his workaholic-please-everyone attitude. He used to be somewhat suave (at least, what, 15 year old me thought so?) and utterly confident in himself. He bored me to tears, honestly, since I wasn’t a very good writer and couldn’t work with him very well. He’s gone through the most rewrites out of all my troll’s until we got to his ULTIMATE FORM (the one he’s in now). Unfortunately this came at the cost of (oopsie) alienating the fire nation his matesprit, since I never RP’d him much and also randomly went on hiatus.
Platar: I wanted a gas mask troll who burned things. I think the original ORIGINAL idea I had was just ‘world war 1 troll.’ He always carried deadly clouds of poison around with him in sealed containers to show off to other trolls. He was also hideously scarred under his mask thanks to accidentally exposing himself to a large batch of mustard gas, a secret no one ever actually found out. He’s changed entirely up to this point, since he’s now an extremely loyal member of the empire hellbent on proving the worth of his supposed ancestor and burning out all traces of heresy and criminality from the glorious Empire.
