Child Support Part 2
Tim watched the other young heroes as they tried to look around the watch tower without seeming like they were. He's been here plenty of times, but the rest of the Teen Titans and a few of the Young Justice hasn't.
Much was due to the older heroes leaving the younger ones alone. Some not taking them seriously enough to welcome them at the big HQ as much as that made his blood boil.
They were taking the same risks. They were fighting the same good fights. Why was their age the main reason they weren't treated equally?
Some teenage heroes weren't part of a team per see, but they always answered when a call was sent. For example, Cass and Steph were present, speaking softly to Static Shock. Damian was standing next to Jon and his little friend Colin who was just getting into the swing of the hero business.
Bruce almost bit through his tongue when Damian told him Abuse would be joining Robin on parol, and he could do nothing to stop them. (Tim felt like he was watching Damian tell Bruce a paraphrased version of "But Daddy, I love him!" and it kept him smiling for weeks)
It was wild to see almost every young hero in one place. He doesn't think this happened since the last time Justice Leauge got mind controlled and almost destroyed the whole world.
"Any idea why we're here?" Kon asks to his right, lowering his shade to stare at the Outlaws. Jason's team stood to the side chatting iddly while cleaning over thier weapons.
Kon's always like their punk point of view, and he knows his best friend wants to go over there to talk to them. If it wasn't for the issue of the clone still being mad about what Jason did at the Teen Titans tower. Almost murder was hard to forgive for people outside the Bats.
"None. All I know is that John Constantine sent out a message to every teenage superhero group calling for a meet-up," Tim responds.
Bart whistles with a grimace on his right. "Must be bad if that guy is asking."
"I heard Hawkwoman tell Superman that she was worried and wasn't sure she wanted anyone of us mixed up in Constantine's mistakes." Cassie chimes in from where she leans on the couch. The three turn to her as she lowers her voice, attempting to keep the others from hearing. "Batman told her off for it."
"Batman did?" Tim asks, surprised.
Cassie shrugs, throwing a bit of her blond hair over her shoulder. "As much Batman can emote anyway."
Yeah, that sounded about right. Though it must have been something Bruce found disrespectful. His dad usually never reprimanded strangers unless they were saying something or doing something that sounded far too much like bigotry to him.
But to apply that to Constantine? Someone, Bruce generally disliked communicating with because the man tended to backstab his contacts? Yes, Constantine wasn't evil, but he wasn't pleasant either.
If Bruce had magical issues, he tended to contact Zatanna first.
Just then, the watch tower's zeta beams activate. Everyone who gathered turns to the teleporting pads where Constantine appears looking, for lack of a better word, absolutely exhausted. Even Tim knows that his eye bags aren't that bad, and he's usually going hours without sleep.
"Oh good, you all made it," Constantine says, sipping from a mug and wearing nothing but sweatpants and what looks like a nightgown. His signature trench coat was nowhere in sight. "I'm going to be quick about this. I need a team of young heroes willing to accept my son into their fold."
The room is dead silent. Constantine sighs. "Look, I've tried everything, but it's like Danny is allergic to laying low. He fought with a demon the other day over a child's doll- which you all know happens. People get haunted! But Danny refused to do it the right way, and now I had to beat off the demon's marriage proposal at least ten times. Not to mention his lack of social skills! No matter which one I stick him in, he can't seem to make friends in school. He got shoved into a locker on his first day! I thought that was an American exaggeration of the telly!"
Constantine pauses and takes a large gulp of whatever he's drinking before continuing his rant. A hand runs through his already messy hair, leaving it in bigger disarray as he speaks. "He's behind in terms of trends and technology cause his other father raised him outside of the typical timelines, so sometimes it's like talking to someone from the early two thousand, and other times it's like he's a modern Victorian era lad. His powers are also all over the place because the ectoplasm in our world is thicker, so when he breathes it in, he losses his control. Just the other day he accidentally made himself fly through our ceiling and almost reach the atmosphere before I was able to bring him back down."
A few of the fliers in the room wince. Jon nods and whispers under his breath, though his voice carries in the silence. "Yeah, been there before. Flying can be scary if you don't know how to come down."
Johns glances around at all the young people, eyes showing a tad bit of desperation. "He's sad all the time now, and I don't know how to help. If working with you could help him make friends, I would be grateful. He's a great kid. He just needs to adjust."
Tim had no idea what to do with this information; how do you respond to arguably one of the strongest Justice League Darks' heroes asking for a play date for his son?
"How old is the child?" Damian's voice rings out. Colin's hand is attached to his sleeve, a slightly nervous smile on the boy's face as he attempts to hide from the staring heroes behind his brother. Tim bets that if he wasn't wearing the domino mask, they would be able to see slight tears in Colin's eyes.
Damian's other hand goes across his body to cover Colin's hand, and Tim fights a shit-eating grin. His eyes lock with Jason, and the two send each other knowing grins. Looks like Bruce did have to worry about Damian having a secret boyfriend.
He can't wait to tease Damian later.
"He's fourteen....or well, physically?" Constantine answers eagerly.
"What does that mean?" Kon asks this time.
"Okay, so he's half human, half ecto-being. He sired him with his other father, Clockwork, which was only four years ago in this dimension, but since he was raised in the Infinite Relemas, times move differently there? " The British man says, and Raven goes rigid.
"Clockwork, as in the most powerful Ancient?" She asks, looking horror-struck when Constantine nods.
Before anyone asked what that meant, the zeta tubes activated again without permission. Someone had hacked into their systems which were ten levels bad. Everyone naturally fell into a fighting stance, only to blink when a teenage boy stepped out with a loud excited screech.
"We're in space!" The teenager runs to one of the windows, pressing his hands and face up against the glass. "This is amazing!"
Tim only relaxes his muscles once Constantine clears his throat. "Chum...what are you doing here?"
"Oh. One of your curse rocks things started proposing to me again, so I ran out of the House of Mysteries. Thought I see what you were up to." The teenager says, turning around with a smile and utterly freezing at the sight of the gathered heroes.
He had dark hair, wide blue eyes, and the most adorable face Tim had ever seen. Not as sexy as Bernard, of course, but darn close. Judging by the looks of anyone attractive to males, most heroes thought the same.
"Um...hi?" He says, offering the Godsmack teenagers a helpless little shrug. "I'm Danny Constantine."
"It is a pleasure, Constantine." Damian marches over to him with all his little twelve-year-old authority. He barely reaches Danny's chest. "I shall look forward to working with you. Are you formally trained in combat or strictly magic?"
"Um...oh, I can throw a punch or two? I'm mostly self taught. I rely on my powers a lot?" Danny fumbles to answer throwing a desperate look at his presumed father.
"No matter. I shall have you begin training. My Beloved also needs to work on his form. There is no shame in this" Damian nods, and Constantine lets out a large sigh of relief. He jogs over to place a hand on his son's shoulder, giving him a one-sided hug
"Yes, Danny, you will join Robin, Superboy, and Abuse on missions. They agree to help you settle and get used to your ghost powers." Constantine smiles. "I'll give me time to discourage all those idiots from trying to trick you into marriage."
"Oh...okay. It's nice to meet you all. Please call me Phantom on the field. Um, are you the team leader?" He asks Damian as the three youngest boys lead him further into the watch tower.
Constantine watches them go with the brightest smile he's ever seen on the man's face. He looks back to the group, who were barely starting to pick their jaws off the floor and makes a shooing motion with his hand. "You lot are dismissed."
Then the man vanishes in a green portal.
There is a ringing silence until Barts blurts out. "I'm pretty sure this is where the Phantom Fan Club first formed. A historical moment."
Tim wants to take a nap.

Now that you mentioned it, can I have some track star player! Damian and basketball captain! Jon 👀
👀
• Baskebtall November-march, & outdoor track & soccer is March-June. pspspspspsps! I know Jack shit about sports (:
• in freshmen year, damian found himself bored, he had so much built up on energy that he needed to release. damians not a.. team player, so he joined a sport that didn’t really require you to be a team player. track.
• damian could run okay? he could run fast. so it was perfect, so now, as a junior, he was known for winning the school track trophies but Damian wasn’t as well known as jon. captain of the basketball team, a boy cherished by the school for bringing home a trophy for the first time in years. their basketball team was bad, but then, little freshmen jonny joined
• he just joined for fun, he didn’t expect to get in, he also liked played basketball with his brother, so he just tried out. ( that’s what he said at least ) sure, at the start he wasn’t the best player, but then, during their first game? he was playing amazingly. apparently the boys great under pressure
• he slowly rose up in the team and became well known, there was always a girl or two chasing after him in the halls ( jon didn’t really care for them.. he was more interested in the track star )
• jon fell in love with damian. no.. well.. jon had a crush on him since freshmen year. why, you may ask? ..he likes his personality, jon remembers getting lost in the falls as a freshmen and then sophomore Damian going to help him. was he laughing at him? definitely.
• people said damian was rude, jon said otherwise. he may not know damain that well, but he could see kindness in him
• his team members called him a simp. he.. no.. he wasn’t a simp? all he did was defend damian
• people said jon didn’t even know damian, but jon feels like he’s known him for years.. like they were partners or something ( am i hinting at reincarnation and a potential reincarnation arc in this au 👁 or am I hinting at doing a reincarnation au? the world will never know)
• jon believes there’s more to Damian than people think
• Maya is the captain of the girls soccer team, Tai is apart of the basketball team, Kathy is a cheerleader, and billy is a football player
• damian is friends with maya and sorta friends with tai due to club activities ( art ), & an acquaintance of Kathy because Maya is dating kathy ( today is a date I ship kathymaya )
• jon is friends with tai, Kathy ( childhood friends ), Maya ( Kathy’s gf so he knows Kathy’s gf ), & billy
• damian often saw jon in the halls, jon tried to smile at Damian, but damain just ignored them. he didn’t know Jon. stranger danger
• jons last game was coming yo, the championship, damians track season was about to start soon, the school was amped up
• it was the final game and jon was so hyped
Jon: Hey! Damian!
Damian:
Damian: what.
Jon: the um.. my last game.. it’s.. it’s friday.. and I was wondering if.. if you’d go?
Damian: I was already going.
Jon: really!
Damian: yes, tai invited me.
• a slight lie on damians part
• but he briefly heard tai ask Maya if she would come, and Maya normally brought Damian along ( much to his dismay.. )
• jon eyes lit up when he heard the name tai. Damian knows tai. TAI KNOWS DAMIAN
Jon: TAI
Tai: Jesus Christ, jon-
Jon: you know Dam— d a - frick - Damian
Tai: yeah?
Jon: set us up! match make! okay cupid!
Tai: are you sure english is your first language, ‘cause..
Jon; tai!
Tai: why do you even want to go out with him???
Jon: he’s pretty…
Tai: he’s mean
Jon: he is not!
• tai did not know what world jon wad living in
• but. tai was one of jons best friends so, he of course, tried to help:)
Tai: hey, shithead
Damian: oh my god, don’t talk to me
Tai: I need a favor
Damian: no.
Tai: you owe me.
• damian did owe him, tai took him to the er one time when he he fucked his ankle up after doing something stupid
Damian: what.
Tai: I need you to wear the number 3 to the game
Damian: 3– that’s - the boys- jons. why?
Tai: don’t ask.
• so that’s how Damian ended up wearing a shirt with the number 3 on it, Maya laughed at him
• oops. but Damian didn’t really care that much. but him wearing jons stupid number started rumors
• damian didn’t really label his sexuality, jon was openly bi, do that wasn’t the problem. the problem was that they thought they were dating
• damian didn’t like that and found it annoying. you see, damian didn’t really know of jons crush, he didn’t pay enough attention to the boy, it wasn’t like he was in any of his classes anyways.
• ( tai and Damian are sorta actually good friends, they have that insulty friendship and share a lot of classes, Maya is senior, along with Billy, Kathy’s a junior w/ tai n billy )
• damian really didn’t care for jon. at all.. until he actually saw him. the last time he saw jon. he was.. noodle like.
• now? he was not. he didn’t really fully pay attention to jon before. sure he’s saw his smile and face, but oh my god.
Damian: hes hot
Maya: what?
Damian: n.. nothing. Sorry.
• he did not mean to narrate his thoughts there. Damian didn’t care for team sports, but looking at jon play? wow.
• the way jon ran around, he was so. Elegant.
• damian was seriously ogling jon. Damian has never felt more embarrassed. he hates when people focused on his looks and here he was. doing the same. he wanted to commit mass murder. on himself. right now.
• meanwhile, Maya was just trying to watch her girlfriend who was sitting on the bench while Damian was having a mini breakdown on how shallow he was being
• ( told you guys, Damian will always be dramatic in any universe )
Maya: you good there-?
Damian: no.
Maya: great, it’s half time, I’m gonna go say hi to kathy
• he couldn’t believe Maya was leaving him in his misery
• meanwhile, jon was fsngirling. Damian was here. Damian. Wearing his number. Oh shit.
Jon: tai tai tai tai!!!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!
Tai: yeah yeah, you owe me
• jon played so well that day too, they ended up winning the game. no one knew where jon got that sudden burst of energy when he was beginning to get tired, but he did
• and he got the winning shot
Kathy: geez, jon! good job!
Jon: thank you!
Maya: thought you guys were gonna lose
Tai: thanks Maya
Maya: anytime <3
Jon: I’m gonna say hi to damian, wish me luck!
Maya: luck wished
Tai: don’t combust when he looks at you!
• tai is the best wing man <3
• but anyways damians still in the bleachers, trying to hide from the world
Jon: Damian!
Damian: yes?
Jon: thanks for coming! I think you were my good luck charm
• jon should have not said that out loud, but he did.
• and Damian chose to just: not comment on it.
• a week or something later and it’s damians track meet
• he has started looking forward to jons smiles in the halls, but he still pretends that he never sees it. he learned a few things about jon, how he’s truly a sweetheart, probably the nicest person in the planet— as long as you don’t mess with his friends, and failing English class
• but damian doesn’t have the time to pine, he spends his hours now running, jumping hurdles, jumping, and yadayada.
• he was excited. he was. he was just: wow. he was hyped up, energy was building up in him as anticipation built up for the first meet. It was currently Monday, the first meet will be Wednesday. Three days.
• and in those three days, he was his own enemy. sleep- sleep did not come easily. Not at all. His thoughts kept him up and awake, thinking about the possibilities, it was absolute garbage.
Maya: geez, you look like a zombie
Damian: feel like one
Tai: hey dude did you bring th— ooh yikesss
Damian: shut up.
• damian was 100%my grumpy that day and glared at all passing bystanders
• but jon had began sitting at Damian’s table, along with Tai ( 😡 )
• damians table consisted of Maya, sometimes Kathy, Maps, && Colin. Colin was also apart of the track team
Jon: uh, D- are you okay?
Damian: mmhhhshshshjsnm
• jon and Damian started calling each other by D and J, they don’t know why, it just happened
• jon wanted to go to damians meet, but he didn’t exactly know if Damian would like that? it was.. complicated
• he didn’t even know if him and damian were friends, they barely even saw each other minus the small times in the hallway and lunch
• but he did go to damians track meet, damian would never admit that he liked that Jon was there

You and I Weren’t Forever, And It’s Fine - fic
Characters: Damian Wayne, Colin Wilkes Pairing: implied/past DamiColin Summary: The world was ending. Literally, right now. Batman was surprised he didn’t have to watch it all crash down alone. A/N: Inspired by ‘If The World Was Ending’ by JP Saxe and Julia Michaels. Obviously adult Damian and Colin. Get ready for vague sads and everyone dying haha. While I seem to imply their relationship ended badly, it didn’t? In my head they just slowly stopped talking to each other, and both felt really guilty about that. (Title is my misheard lyrics of the song because apparently that’s not actually it haha)
~~
It was the end of the world.
And even after everything, it turned out not to be anyone’s fault. No aliens, or villain’s plan or other dimension shenanigan.
It was just…nature. Earth’s time. A poorly placed and sized meteor phenomenon.
Doesn’t mean it wasn’t an apocalyptic finale, though.
The shower was so big and so strong, it knocked Earth just so out of orbit. Tilted the axis a few miles, or feet or even centimeters. No one would ever know. No one would survive to find out.
The tides changed. Cities were flooded. Earthquakes led to tsunamis led to volcano eruptions.
It all appeared so quickly. But Earth’s death actually took months. Almost a full year.
And it was torturous. No superhero, armed force or prayer could make a difference, and, just like the citizens they were trying to save, they slowly died. Painfully, agonizingly, slowly.
And Batman watched it all. Did his best, but in the end, watched his family, city, and whole life die in front of him. From building collapses, holes opening in the ground, water, lava, diseases springing up, poisoned air. Think of the worst thing you can, and it probably happened at least twice in those last days.
How he survived this long, he doesn’t know. Some demon watching over him perhaps. Laughing as he survived every new plague, every natural disaster starting over again.
Until he was the only one left.
So he stood atop the remnants of Wayne Tower, still the tallest building in Gotham City, watching as streets and buildings collapsed into this newest, ever-growing sinkhole. Watching like a captain, going down with his ship.
There was no one and nothing left. No hope. He’d be swallowed with Gotham and this whole mess would finally be over. The Earth would be done, and start its centuries long journey into becoming space dust.
He was almost excited.
He pulled his cowl back as he heard the crash of another building, watched the fires of another meteor hitting already ravaged land miles away. Took a deep inhale of dirty oxygen, and prepared to watch the end of the world while waiting to die.
He was the only one left.
Or, at least, he thought so.
There was a crash behind him, and he paid it no mind. Not until he heard, “Damian?”
He whirled around. The crash hadn’t been the building falling deeper into destruction, it had been the opening of a door, slamming into a shattered wall.
It was a door being opened by a man covered in as many scars as he still had freckles, with long red hair blowing in flame-induced wind.
Damian’s heart stuttered in disbelief, and his mouth gaped.
“Colin?!”
Colin grinned, moving forward. He limped, and through ripped jeans Damian could see an infected wound. “Long time no see, buddy.”
“Everyone’s dead.” Damian breathed. “I…I thought everyone was dead…”
“They are.” Colin laughed. “Frankly, I thought I was the last one left. Until I saw that all too familiar silhouette up here…”
When Colin reached him, he didn’t wait. Just threw his arms as tightly around Damian’s neck as he could. And Damian did the same.
“How long has it really been?” Colin’s voice was muffled against his throat.
“Fifteen years at least.” Damian returned. When they parted, Damian kept fierce hold of Colin’s hands. “Not since two years after we…”
“Harder to be friends with your ex than we thought, huh?” Colin was still smiling. “I…I wanted you to be at my wedding. So did Cynthia. Really. But I just…didn’t think I deserved to be in your presence. Not after everything.”
“I understand. I wanted to text you congratulations when I saw the engagement announcement but I…” Damian trailed off, glanced down at their hands. “She was beautiful. I’m sorry for your loss.” Another pause to squeeze Colin’s hands. “For her loss, and your daughter’s.”
“Don’t be. I lucked out, in a way. They never had to see any of this. Cynthia died of cancer seven years ago, and Abbie was killed by a drunk driver.” Colin waved it off, but his smile dimmed anyway. “You, though…”
Damian closed his eyes.
“I…was watching, when it happened. On the news.” Colin whispered. “You and Superman…the new Superman…you guys were a thing, right?”
“His name was Jonathan.” Damian returned just as quietly. “He never actually proposed, but when the meteors hit, he said he was going to marry me at the end of the world.” Damian sighed. “A hero to the end, trying to save that town in Washington. But I guess even half-Kryptonians aren’t stronger than getting pinned by half of a suspension bridge and slowly eaten by lava.”
Now it was Colin’s turn to squeeze Damian’s hands. “I’m so sorry.”
Damian shook his head, and opened his eyes with a smile. “I’m glad I got to see you one more time before the end, though.”
Colin’s face lit back up. “Me too.”
“…I want to say I’m sorry that we didn’t work out, but-”
“But I’m not.” Colin finished for him. “I found Cynthia, and you found Jonathan. We found better love after each other.”
“…Right.” Damian laughed. “I never forgot you, though.”
“Never stopped loving you either.” Colin agreed. “Thanks for making me a better person.”
“You as well.” Damian nodded. A few more crashes echoed nearby, and Damian looked across the landscape. Buildings were collapsing into the sinkhole at a faster rate, and more fire was spreading. The smoke, mixing with the toxic air, was making it hard to see. “Colin, you should go find shelter and-”
“And do what? Really be the last person on a dying planet?” Colin asked, tilting his head to get back into Damian’s line of sight. “It’s the end, man. And there’s no one else I’d rather watch it with than you.”
Damian looked back at him, stared for a few seconds. The flames were highlighting his freckles, brightening the shade of his hair. Colin just kept smiling at him.
Silently, Damian let go of his hands, only to hold his face. Let his fingers twist in the long red strands of Colin’s hair as his stroked his thumbs along his cheekbones. Then leaned up to plant a kiss on Colin’s forehead.
The building rumbled as the hole got closer.
Colin just chuckled. Turned his head to give Damian a quick peck to his cheek as well, then enveloped him in his arms. Held the Batman as the buildings around them shattered and collapsed.
Closed his eyes as Damian returned the tight embrace.
Then they fell.
And everything was over.

The Fourth Doctor Adventures - Series 7: Volume 1
Latest Review: Cast Tom Baker (The Doctor), Louise Jameson (Leela),  John Leeson (K9), Martha Cope (Commander Lind), Oliver Dimsdale (Rebben Tace), Toby Hadoke (V26), John Dorney (Brin / SV9 / V12 / Gary), Cathy Tyson (Jennifer), Damian Lynch (Colin Marshall), Julian Wadham (Dr Holman), Dan Starkey (Linus Strang), Josette Simon (Taraneh), Sarah Lark (Jacinta), Alex Wyndham (Raph), Robert Duncan (Krayl / Sternwood / Eldren), Andy Secombe (Cloten / Shift), Justin Avoth (Cain). Other parts played by members of the cast. Producer David Richardson Script Editor John Dorney Executive Producers Jason Haigh-Ellery and Nicholas Briggs Directed by: Nicholas Briggs   Available February 2018 via Amazon UK The Sons Of Kaldor by Andrew Smith   "Please do not throw feet at me..." That line is unfortunately……..not in this audio - but wouldn't it have been fun if it were? Not that theThe Sons of Kaldor isn’t fun - in it, we find the Doctor and Leela are on a seemingly deserted craft, where, while having a quiet snoop around they discover a humanoid female and an angry looking creature, both in some sort medically induced suspended animation. As they journey deeper into the ship they meet some very familiar robotic faces in the form of the Voc robots from the planet Kaldor (previously seen in, of course, The Robots of Death). Concerned that there are no humans on the ship to lead a mission, the Doctor convinces the robots to revive the female, who is the ship's commander. Once revived she reveals that the ship and it's crew are in the middle of a vicious civil war, and that they are spying on the Sons of Kaldor, who are a group of alien mercenaries, looking to instigate a regime change on their home planet. However, things might not quite be when they seem... The Sons of Kaldor is a great story for the fourth Doctor and Leela, and a perfect way to start this new volume of tales. It's great to hear the pair react to a for that is to both of them (are the robots REALLY a foe? Discuss). The sound design of this story is magnificent, especially in the way that the technology being used on the craft here, emulates that used on the Sandminer, from the classic television series perfectly. It really helps you to believe that you are in the same universe. This, along with the calm and friendly tones of the Vocs and Super Vocs, gives the story a very nostalgic feel. Tom Baker and Louise Jameson are excellent, once again recreating their characters as if they had never stepped away. I'm loving Baker in these stories, he seems to be getting better and better. The supporting cast are also great - Martha Cope (the controller in Bad Wolf/ The Parting of the Ways) as the human commander of the ship is a strong but sympathetic character, especially when she realises the situation that she has been thrown into, Oliver Dimsdale is an old school, suitably smug villain. The writer of the last two parts of this volume, John Dorney provides most of the other voices, including SV9 and V12 - we also get the wonderful Toby Hadoke as V26.  The Sons Of Kaldor is a perfect two part opener to this new volume of fourth Doctor adventures, and provides some great questions about the humanity and possibility of sentient robot life.   The Crowmarsh Experiment by David Llewellyn   The Crowmarsh Experiment is in itself, quite an experiment for this format, as it almost immediately turns everything that we are used to, upside-down. The Doctor and Leela are attacked on an alien world, Leela is knocked unconscious and when she wakes up, finds herself in a completely different time and place. She is at the Crowmarsh Institute, in London, 1978. To her surprise, she is Doctor Leela Marshall, someone who isis struggling to separate realty from fantasy. In Crowmarsh the Doctor that she is used to is a work colleague, Doctor Stewart, and  she is married, with children. But Leela can feel  that this place is wrong. The question is, can the Doctor break through from the reality that she is used to and help her? There are so many great things to say about The Crowmarsh Experiment. Louise Jameson really does carry the story, and it is a wonderful opportunity for her usual  supporting role to come a lot more to the fore. Never quite believing that Crowmarsh is a real place,  her nod’s, and knowing winks to Doctor Stewart (of course played by Tom Baker) are great fun. The Doctor as we know him doesn’t really feature until quite a way into the story. In fact if this were a modern day tale, it could almost be described as a ‘Doctor-lite’ episode. The threat here is palpable, and the Doctor’s (our Doctor’s) final solution is deliciously fiendish. David Llewelyn’s writing is compulsive, and sometimes claustrophobic stuff. The supporting cast, which includes Cathy Tyson, Damian Lynch, Julian Wadham, and Strax himself, Dan Starkey are all excellent. I think that no matter how much of a nostalgia-fest The Sons of Kaldor is (and believe me, I LOVE a nostalgia-fest!), The Crowmarsh Experiment is the best of this trio of stories, with a lot of that due to it’s originality and ability to bend the narrative of Who into something quite different.   The Mind Runners & The Demon Rises by John Dorney   Mind Running is a technique through which one can enter the minds of total strangers, just to see and feel what they saw and felt. The Mind Runners, however are being wiped out, dying in an onslaught of suicides. No one on the planet Chaldra knows why. Something quite horrific is happening, and it’s up to the Doctor and Leela to find out what. Both of these stories final stories on this volume have a real feel of classic Who. We find the Doctor and Leela separated on an alien planet. K9 is front and centre, and there is a puzzling mystery to solve. Everything is here, but rather surprisingly my interest just wasn’t quite held as well as it had been with the previous two stories. For me, I really think the strange, almost electronic treatment to the sound of the alien's voices didn’t help. I also found the stories villain Mr Shift to be very over the top, in a bad, TheHorns of Nimon kind of way (his maniacal cackle closes the episode - I promise, you will cringe). Don’t get me wrong - there are great bits. The macabre rocket, and a planet-wide, man-eating city does conjure up some quite horrifying imagery, these ideas, along with the way that the afore mentioned Mr Shift despatches his victims are quite inventive. However, I couldn’t help thinking that some of the elements of this story just weren’t quite gelling as well as they should have, and I really couldn’t put my finger on what and why. These final stories, when compared to the others in this volume, do have quite a large cast, with Josette Simon, Sarah Lark, Alex Wyndham, Robert Duncan, Justin Avoth and Andy Secombe as Mr Shift all doing a great job. My feeling is that if The Mind Runners and The Demon Rises were released as one stand alone story - then I probably would have appreciated them more. Whereas here, on a volume where the first two stories are so exceptionally strong, these slightly weaker stories get somewhat lost.   The Fourth Doctor Adventures - Series 7, Volume 1 is available now as a CD or a digital download from Big Finish. http://reviews.doctorwhonews.net/2018/01/the_fourth_doctor_adventures_series_7_volume_1.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr
