Memory - Peter Parker
Pairing: Peter x Reader
Requested? Nah
Inspired by “Memory” from Cats and “Memories” from the OST of Spiderverse
* * * *
Peter had been working part time at his aunt's flower shop across their apartment building. He loved to see different people buying flowers for different purposes. He loved to arrange them. He especially loved them whenever they'd get a special request to arrange flowers for a wedding. He loves everything about the shop and the flowers.
Peter thinks that flowers are classic and it never gets old and it never goes out of style and it never disappoints. He vividly remembers his uncle Ben giving flowers everyday to aunt May and it never failed to make his aunt smile.
Now that his uncle has met his untimely demise, his aunt is now leaving flowers everyday on his uncle's grave. She said it gave her peace and it made her happy.
So it was no surprise that the moment Peter saw you at school and wanted to get to know you, he wanted to give you flowers... or at least just one flower a day, because he didn't want to scare you off with a bouquet. He would tape the stem of the flower to your locker and leave a sticky note that says: "have a great day! -your secret admirer"
He gave you different flowers everyday, because he didn't know what you liked. But thanks to MJ, he found out that you loved tulips.
"I know about you giving Y/N a different flower everyday." MJ told him one day at the cafeteria. Peter looked at her and played dumb, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"I literally saw you sticking it on her locker this morning before she arrived." MJ smirked.
"Wow, congrats! You caught me. Want a cookie for that?" Peter said sarcastically as he rolled his eyes.
"After what I'm about to tell you, I think I deserve a cookie." the girl smiled at the brunette.
Peter looked at her with curiosity, "What are you going to tell me?"
"She loves tulips."  MJ told him before paying attention to her book again. Without looking at Peter she added, "She loves pink and yellow tulips. I know, because I caught her drawing them in class today with pastel colored highlighters. She told me she painted those all the time. She's really talented in painting. I asked her to paint me a dahlia and I'll pay for it. My room is kinda empty, so her painting might bring life in my room."
Ever since he found out, he'd alternately leave pink and yellow tulips everyday on your locker. Until one day, Peter finally had gathered enough courage to hand the flowers to you personally. He stood in front of your locker with six tulips in hand. Three pink tulips and three yellow ones. The second he saw you, he swore you took his breath away.
You looked at him and smiled. You walked closer to him until you were standing in front of him, "I didn't expect you to be the type of guy to give flowers, Parker." Peter just chuckled and handed you the little bouquet he arranged for you. You gladly accepted them and smiled, "I really love these. Thank you for giving me flowers everyday."
"Y-Y/N, will you be my-my girlfriend?" Peter stammered. You beamed and nodded, "Yes!"
Present Day
You and Peter have been together since you were sixteen. Both of you are now twenty-three years old and you guys have never been happier. Although recently, you've been arguing a lot and it seemed easier to argue with the other person now that you live together.
"She's literally just a girl from work, Y/N!! You're my girlfriend! You mean more to me that she does!" Peter shouts.
Both of you are currently standing in the living room of your shared apartment as you continued your screaming match. It started thirty minutes ago when Peter got home from a photo shoot. He's a professional photographer and while you supported his job, you didn't like the way his assistant looks at him. You knew she liked him, but Peter was too blind to see that.
"You do know that the word 'more' is used for comparison, right? So, when you say that I mean more to you, that means she still means something to you but I'm a step ahead." You sass, putting your hands on your hips.
"Oh, don't act smart with me now. You know what I fucking mean!" Peter scoffs, crossing his arms.
"Actually, no I don't because you spend more time with her than you spend time with me!" you accusingly point at him as you raise you voice.
Peter's jaw drops and pulls his hair, "Are you hearing yourself right now?! I only spend time with her, because she's my co-worker and assistant! You don't see me hanging out with her after work, do you?? I go straight home after work and I hang out with you! How am I supposed to know that you're not cheating on me with that guy from your work?"
"Who?!" you ask, confusion written all over your face.
"Jonathan!" Peter throws his hands in the air and falls to his side. You throw your head back in annoyance before looking at him, "Here we go again with Jonathan! I'm not cheating on you with him and don't you dare turn this on me!"
"That's totally unfair! You're allowed to think that I'm supposedly cheating on you with Becky, but I'm not allowed to think that you're supposedly cheating on me with Jonathan??? FUCK YOU, Y/N!!!" Peter yells, showing you two middle fingers.
"FUCK YOU TOO!!" you yell.
Peter puts down his hands and looks away from you to calm himself down. He looks at the tulips, nearly dying, in the vase on the coffee table. You calmed yourself down too.
"I can't do this right now." Peter whispers. He grabs his backpack from the couch and his keys. "I'm sleeping at May's. I'll see you in the morning when we've both cooled down." You didn't get a chance to say anything, because he left immediately, slamming the door in the process.
To say that you were sad the following morning was an understatement. You knew you messed up and you desperately want to apologize to Peter, but he's not home yet. You wanted to hug him and kiss him and tell him how sorry you were for starting that stupid argument. Your thoughts were interrupted when you hear your phone ringing. You grab your phone from the night stand and your heart races when you see May's caller ID.
Something's wrong.
You immediately answer the phone and gasp at the news May just told you. "I'll be right there." you quickly get dressed and drove to the hospital where Peter was.
You arrived there and asked the reception where his room is. They tell you and you quickly make your way to Peter's room. You knock on the door before entering. You see the love of your life laying down with his eyes closed. His head is bandaged up and he has a few scratches here and there.
"Y/N!"
You look over to see May sitting on the chair next to Peter's bed. You didn't notice her there before. You sit next to her and ask what happened.
"Well, he was on his way back to your shared apartment. He said you guys had an argument and that maybe resolving it in the morning would make it okay. Before leaving, he got you a big bouquet of pink and yellow tulips. There were twenty-four tulips and I know because he said he wanted twelve of each. Then when he was crossing the street, a truck came out of nowhere and hit him. Thank god he's okay, though. I don't want to lose him too." May sniffs. She hands you the slightly ruined bouquet of flowers and you gladly accepted them.
"The doctors said that he'll wake up soon. We'll just have to wait. He's not suffering anything serious, though." May gives you a small smile.
"That's good." you smile. "He'll be okay. He's strong."
May eventually had to leave, because she needed to open the flower shop. You stayed and called your boss to say that you can't come to work due to an emergency. Thankfully, your boss said it was okay. Around lunch time, you leave Peter's room to buy some food.
What you didn't expect was the moment you came back, Peter was already awake. You smile and put the food on the table and you sit on the chair beside his bed.
"Peter, you're awake!" you says in a hushed voice, not wanting to startle him. He looks around before his eyes land on yours. Tears of joy streamed down your face as you smile at him brightly. "May and I were so worried about you! And-"
"Who are you?"
Your smile drops. Is this some kind of sick joke?
"Where am I? Why am I here?" Peter questions as he tries to sit up. You immediately pushed the button to call the nurse and they came in with a doctor immediately.
They check up on him and the doctor turns to you, "We'll run some tests and we'll come back to tell you the result. In the mean time, just calm down." They leave and you pull out your phone to infrom May about the situation.
"So...who are you?" Peter looks at you warily.
"I'm Y/N; your girlfriend. We've been dating since we were sixteen." you tell him as you hold his hand. Peter nods, "How old are we now?"
"Twenty-three."
"....That's a long time." Peter says in shock.
"Yeah, but we're happy, so it doesn't matter." you give him a tight-lipped smile. Peter just nods and looks out the window. The doctor comes back and clears his throat, "I have the result back and Peter is suffering from memory loss."
"Will he get his memories back?" you ask.
"Yeah, eventually. Telling him some significant things will help him remember easier." the doctor smiles. "We'll keep him here overnight for a few more tests and tomorrow, he can go."
-
It's been a week since Peter got home and you and May thought it was best for him to stay with her for a while until he gets his memories back. Your apartment without Peter was lonely, but it's near your workplace so, you didn't really have a choice but to stay there.
May kept you up to date with Peter's progress and he could remember small things like what school he went to, where he lived, his birthday, uncle Ben's passing, etc.
It's a slow progress, but at least there's something.
Peter wasn't allowed to work yet until he regains his memories so, Becky, his assistant has been doing his job. You've been helping out too, because there are some things where Peter's decision was needed and only you can answer for them. Of course while you were there, you confronted Becky.
"Thanks, Y/N!" Becky faked a smile before she turned around to leave.
"Becky!" you called out. She turned to you once more with a bored expression, "Hmm?"
"I know you like my boyfriend. Can you do me a favor and, like, fuck off? He's taken and if you think that he'll leave me; if you think he'll end our 7 year relationship for you, then you're wrong, sweetie." you sneered.
Becky scoffed and left. You smirked to yourself, "Thank fuck." you muttered.
May suggested that helping around the flower shop might regain some of his memories. So, Peter started helping out even though he didn't really know what to do. May didn't mind teaching him again.
Peter is busy arranging a bouquet of flowers when he hears the bell chime, a sign that a customer has come in. He didn't pay attention to it, because May was quick to handle it.
"I'd like twenty-four tulips please." the customer says.
Peter stopped what he was doing and holds his head. May takes notice of this and gives him a questioning glance. Peter gives her a tight-lipped smile  and mouths "I'm okay."
May nods before turning to the customer again, "What colors do you like?"
The customer hums in response as they take a second to think, "I'm kind of torn between the pink and yellow tulips. I love them both, but I can't seem to pick one color."
"Why not both?" May suggests.
Peter knew she didn't mean it, but something in him got triggered and his head started to hurt even more. He closes his eyes in pain and as soon as he did, all his memories came flashing back.
He quickly opens his eyes and turns to May, "I remember everything now." May smiles and opens her mouth to say something, but Peter cuts her off, "I have to go! Thank you so much, May! I'll see you soon!"
Peter rushes out the shop and makes his way to where you are. He remembers that you're not in your office and that today is your day off. He smiles at the thought of seeing you again and soon enough, he's knocking on the door of your shared apartment.
He hears footsteps coming to the door and smiles when you open it.
"Peter! What are you doing here?" you ask in shock and happiness. You didn't expect him to be there, because you usually visit him and not the other way around.
Peter engulfs you in a tight hug and nuzzles his face on your neck. You didn't hesitate to wrap your arms around him, "Are you okay?"
Peter nods before pulling away and smiling, "I remember everything now."
You smile widely at him and say, "Oh my god! I-"
Peter cuts you off with a kiss filled with love and longing. You kiss him back and smile through the kiss. He pulls away after a while and says, "I love you. I don't want us to fight like that again."
"I love you more, Pete. I don't want us to fight like that too." you smile at him as you let him in and close the door.
Having Peter back home made you really happy and you didn't feel lonely anymore. You spent the whole day talking about what he missed and he told you about how he remembered everything until both of you fell asleep on the couch and you wouldn't have it any other way.

Everything Shimmers With You
Summary: Tenn takes Mariana on a walk so he can ask her an important question.
Word Count: 2081
Read on A03:
The snow crunching underneath Tenn’s boots was a comforting sound as he made his way to the library. Another semester had passed and with it he was one step closer to graduation. He could hear Sophie’s voice in his head, knowing exactly what she would say when he visited her and Minnie for Christmas. “How in the world have you gotten even taller? It’s not fair – 20 years old and still growing!” then she’d pinch his cheek lovingly and sit him down to a Christmas feast with enough calories to make him grow a couple more inches. He was excited to come home for the holidays, but there was something he needed to do first before he left.
Turning the corner, Tenn saw the library, its lights still welcoming and warm even though it was closed for the evening. No one was around anymore, everyone having returned to their dorms likely to keep studying for that last exam or two they had the coming day. Tenn had been lucky in that his exams were stacked on the first few days of this week. Perhaps it was unlucky before when he had to cram for hours on end but now he was done early and he could spend his time doing other things, first and foremost of those things: meeting up with the pretty Cuban girl who sat waiting for him on the library steps.
“Hey, Mari,” Tenn’s voice was soft as always as he smiled down at his girlfriend and offered her a hand up. “Aren’t you cold sitting on the steps like that?”
“Tenn!” Mariana’s face brightened at the sight of him. She immediately took Tenn’s hand, standing up and pulling him into a long, warm hug. “Nah, I’m fine. I only locked up the library about five minutes ago so I haven’t been sitting long,” She stepped down the stairs with her boyfriend, smiling as she squeezed his hand. “So… how did exams go? Do you think you aced them?”
“Well, I don’t know about ‘aced’,” Tenn murmured, looking down at the ground shyly, “But I know I did well on all of them and that’s thanks to you. I would never have passed trigonometry without your help,”
“What good is having a girlfriend with an in at the library if she can’t help you cram for exams?” Mari replied with a wink. “Thank goodness that part of my life is over, at least for now. I still have exam burnout from my college days!”
Tenn smiled at Mariana as she continued, reminiscing about her own time in college as they walked along the frozen pathway together. He still couldn’t believe he was lucky enough to date her. To think that asking for help tracking down a book of Van Gogh’s illustrations would lead to a relationship that had been going strong for almost an entire semester now… he was so lucky. He knew he’d get a lot of teasing from his sisters and sister-in law when he got home about dating an older woman, but he was certain that as soon as they met Mariana they’d love her as much as he did.
That was what he was planning to ask this night: for Mari to come home with him for the holidays. Perhaps it was moving a bit fast and he certainly wasn’t giving her much time to decide or pack for the trip, but over the past week as Tenn had thought of leaving campus and not seeing Mariana for the entire winter break, the more that idea had become completely unbearable to him. Then the perfect solution had come to him: take her home. He wanted Mariana to meet his family and for them to see how much she meant to him. Now he just had to hope that she would say yes.
It was a few minutes of walking before they reached one of the campus coffee shops. Popping inside, the two of them walked to the counter hand-in-hand. Mariana placed their orders, already knowing Tenn’s by heart: earl grey tea with a splash of cream and a drizzle of honey. With Tenn’s tea and Mari’s cinnamon latte in hand, the pair left the café and headed toward their true destination.
Mariana took a sip of her drink, letting out a tiny sigh of happiness at the taste. She caught Tenn smiling at her and paused in her second sip. “What?”
“Nothing, just… I love when you do that,”
“Do what?”
“That little sound you make right after taking your first sip. It’s cute,”
“Huh. I never noticed before,” Mariana looked at her drink in curiosity before sipping it again. “You pick up on details so well. I guess it comes with being an artist,”
“Maybe,” Tenn shrugged. “It’s not really anything special,”
“Ah ah ah,” Mariana scolded, gently nudging Tenn’s shoulder. “There you go again underselling yourself. That’s another compliment you owe the compliment jar!”
Tenn nodded good-naturedly, smiling at the thought. Mariana had started the practice of the compliment jar a few months ago. Every time Tenn said anything self-deprecating or effacing, she would make him write a compliment about himself to put in the compliment jar. Then whenever Mari caught him feeling down, she would bring out the compliment jar and read compliments he had written to himself until Tenn was smiling again. It was one of the things Tenn loved about Mariana best: her ability to always bring joy.
Finally, they had reached their destination. Along the walkway that led from Cook Hall all the way down to the Egret dorms, lights had wrapped around the trunks of the trees that lined the path and interspersed amongst their branches. The effect was magical: the air itself seemed to glow with an almost ethereal quality and in the calm of night with the smallest wisps of snow floating down from above, it felt as though they had the entire world to themselves. It was a walk they had gotten into the habit of taking together at least a few times each week, wanting to enjoy the magical atmosphere for as long as it would last.
Hand in hand, the pair walked along in silence, taking in the beauty that surrounded them. Tenn felt a sort of nervous excitement thrumming within him alongside the usual calm that the walk inspired. Mariana was completely enraptured by their surroundings, taking it all in with wide eyes. Most of the campus was asleep or indoors at this hour and the sprinkling of snow that had come down earlier in the evening had left the path fresh and unmarked, their footsteps the only trace of life along the trail.
“It gets me every time,” Mariana murmured, a smile on her lips as she took in the beauty around them.
“Me too,” Tenn readjusted his hold on Mari’s hand, his woolen gloves not quite enough to keep out the cold of the night.
Mari smiled up at her boyfriend. “I bet it snows even more than this in West Virginia, huh?”
“Yeah, it snows quite a bit. One winter we got such a heavy snow that the power lines in our district came down and school got cancelled for the next three days. Power was out at the place my sisters worked too, so we all got to stay at home together and binge movies while we drank tons of hot cocoa. That was the exception though, not a regular winter,”
“I bet you watched Into the Spiderverse about a hundred times during your days off,” Mariana said with a grin.
She knew him well. Tenn smiled shyly and nodded. “Yeah. I bet my sisters were sick of it, but Sophie was mostly focused on her drawing and Minnie was working on a special song for my sister-in-law Renata so neither seemed to mind,”
“Your sisters always sound so cool. I hope I get to meet them sometime, maybe if they drive up here for a visit,”
“Actually…” Tenn stopped in his tracks, causing Mariana to come to a halt too, “I was thinking you could meet them sooner than that. Like next week,” Clearing his throat, Tenn mustered all of his courage for the next part. “Mari, would you like to come home for the holidays with me? I know it’s a lot to ask and I should have thought of it earlier and maybe it’s too soon, but, but I really want you to meet my family. My sisters and parents and niece and nephews, everybody. So… do you want to?”
Mariana looked up at Tenn with large eyes, silently taking everything in. As he kept talking though, her smile grew and grew so when he finished his question she was already sure of her answer. “Yes!”
“R-really?”
“Yes really! I would love to come home with you!” Bouncing onto her tiptoes, Mariana captured her boyfriend’s lips in a quick kiss. “I’ll have to let my uncles and brother know that I won’t be around as much as we’d originally planned, but I know they’ll be happy that I’m going too. You know how much they love you!”
Javi and Santiago were exceedingly fond of Tenn. And they teased the couple practically every time they saw them, so Tenn had developed a thick enough skin to handle the upcoming teasing at home. Gabe might be a little peeved that Mari was being whisked away on such short notice, but his wife Nurgul was sure to calm him down and get him to forgive Tenn. If things went as Tenn anticipated, perhaps next year it wouldn’t be just Mari but her entire family visiting his come Christmas time.
Taking both of Mariana’s hands in his, Tenn squeezed them gladly, looking upon her with adoration. “I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you said yes,”
“It means as much as it means to me that you asked,” Mariana lightly swung their hands back and forth, still giddy with joy. “Crap, I gotta go home and pack! You’re leaving tomorrow, right?”
“The day after tomorrow. Again, sorry for the short notice-”
“Enough of that,” Mariana tutted. “That’s plenty of time to pack. I’ll just do a quick run to the corner store for essentials tomorrow and I’ll be all set. I should get home though!  I have laundry to do, gotta dig my suitcase out of storage, ask Gabe to feed the guinea pigs…” As she listed off things Mariana began to walk, heading faster towards her car where their walk always ended. Tenn followed along in silence, listening happily to the list and adding in his own additions to what she should pack.
By the time they reached her car, Mariana had a pretty good idea of everything she would need before she headed out with Tenn. Opening the car door, Mariana turned around to give Tenn one last kiss. It was a slow, sweet one, both of them lingering in the moment. Mariana pulled away softly, her eyes fluttering back open as she smiled up at her boyfriend. “I guess I’ll see you soon then. I’ll probably text you before I see you again for more packing details,”
“Sounds good to me,” Tenn agreed, nodding softly.
Mariana bit her lip as if unsure if she should say what she wanted to next. “I’m so glad you asked me. Not only cause it’s a step forward and all that, but… I would have missed you like crazy over winter break. It’s all I’ve been thinking of this past week,”
A small chuckle escaped Tenn’s lips. “I was thinking the same thing,”
“Really?”
Yes, really,”
Going up on her tiptoes once more, Mariana gave Tenn a quick kiss on the cheek, leaning in to whisper in his ear. “I love you, Tennessee,”
A shiver ran down Tenn’s spine at her words. “I love you too, Mariana,”
“I’ll see you soon,” Giving Tenn’s hand one final squeeze, Mariana got into her car and slowly drove off, waving back at him until her car rolled out of sight.
Tenn waved back as long as he could, only lowering his arm when he was sure she was out of sight. A bright warmth filled the entirety of his being; she had said yes. He was taking Mari home for the holidays. Heading back toward his dorm, Tenn found himself unable to hold back the grin upon his face. It was going to be a truly magical Christmas.

A New Hyperfixation
Well, may as well kick off the renovation with a post about hyperfixations. Here, have a dumb post that contains more writing and effort than my essays during senior year did.
My last hyperfixation was Mystery Skulls Animated. I found a link to Hellbent, the most recent video, the day it dropped. I enjoyed it and went back to watch the first two videos in the series. And like that, I was hooked! Not long after I joined a Discord group. Unfortunately (or, rather... Maybe it was fortunate after all?) the admins were no longer into MSA and thus deleted the server after having been there for.. Maybe a week at most?
Needless to say, I was devastated and wanted a community to yell about my fixation with. So I went and searched on tumblr, and came across a post by someone I now consider to be a good friend, advertising their MSA Discord Server. Thankfully they allowed me in, and it was wonderful. I made friends left and right, I had wonderful discussions about theories and ships, I finally had my muse back. For the first time in months, my artistic muse was back in full force, and I was doodling all the time! Hell, I even finished pieces! Lines, colour, background... Everything I hadn’t done in months.
I made... Honestly, some wonderful friends. I haven’t felt this close to people in what seems like years (although in reality, it’s probably just been closer to 7 months). Hell, I could sit here on my laptop all day and wax poetic about the people I’ve come to know and love.
Aw hell, love... I forgot to mention I fell in love, too. Which was, obviously, a stupid thing for me to do. I’m still trying to figure myself out; trying to further myself and carve out a meaningful place in the world, to come to terms with my gender and the dysphoria that follows, to simultaneously move forward and yet hold myself back out of fear... My brain isn’t in tune with my heart, though, so here I am distancing myself in a poorly executed plan to get over them. I know it’s not fair to them, and kind of a shitty thing to do? But ah... C’est la vie, as the saying goes. I did mention I was dumb, right?
This person and I- y’know, writing “this person” is going to get very old... I’ll call them King. King and I talked all the time, whether it be in the server or in DM’s. Shared secrets and tidbits about ourselves; things I haven’t told to another person in a long time. Things I limited only to my best friends... In fact, they were the one to introduce me to my current fixation.
The server often times had events. Game Nights, voice chats, drawpile, movie nights... The whole 9. This also extended to my friends and I. King even streamed musicals for me to watch. First came Dear Evan Hansen (yes, I sobbed). Then, King showed me Hamilton.
Now, Hamilton, I had heard rumblings about throughout the years. I had a passing interest, “yeah, I’d like to see it at some point! But it’s not number one on the list by any means. I’m into something else right now” was my train of thought. When King offered to stream another musical, of course I was interested! Hamilton was amongst the choices offered that night, and uh, our other viewer... Ha, I’ll dub them as “Silver”. He’d like that.  Silver chose Hamilton.
Needless to say, I fell in love with the show. I don’t know why this one, or why now; I’d had many things I could’ve fixated on before then- Spiderverse, Venom, and Dear Evan Hansen just to name a few... But here I am.
Immediately I started looking for tickets to see it, trying to gauge the price. It was during the initial searches that I saw the show was about to begin its third tour. So when I saw it was coming to New Orleans, I knew that was my opportunity. I picked up more hours at the Bell, I ended up getting a raise, I had money left over from Christmas. I budgeted and scrimped and saved. I negotiated with my grandmother, who was going to be down at the Bay when the cast came to New Orleans, to find a way to go see it.
And all the while I had begun to read fanfiction. Falling more and more in love with the characters, with the ships. I bought the soundtrack and began memorising the songs from Act 1.
And finally, after multiple rounds of negotiations, working 6 days a week, and scoping prices on tickets... I’m happy to say that I’ll be going to see the show just after St Patties Day. I am beyond excited. To share this experience with my grandma. To have a small vacation before throwing myself back into work. To immerse myself in my latest hyperfixation.
The only downfall to this? I spend less time on the MSA server. I spend less time with the friends I’ve made. My muse is... Not gone, per se, but definitely shifted. I draw less, and write more- fitting, huh? It’s somehow more intense and more gentle than my fixation for MSA. So I’m... Floundering? I suppose that’s an apt descriptor. I’m floundering as I adjust to the abrupt shift in my personality and habits. It’s terrifying and freeing all at once, and I find that I can’t bottle it up anymore. So.
Here’s to a shift. A renovation. A revelation. A revolution. Let’s hope some of these habits stick. I quite like writing again.
