Monica Week Day 4: AU

For the AU prompt I bring you a story I didn't want to stop adding more onto. We have the start of Monica and Hilda's love story in a retainer swap AU where Hilda is Edelgard's retainer. I really want to write more and maybe if people like it I will, there is a lot of little details I'd like to explore more and I'd love to keep exploring further up the time line. I just decided Hilda asking Monica out would be my cut off so I could ya know actually post something. Plus I'd still love to post the Experiments I idea I had if I can gather the spoons [I wanna make that Monica/Hapi and maybe some Monica/Constance while i'm at it].

So I made this random swap au and now I'm obsessed

I think Sorbet/Wintermelon has a different dynamic with others in the case that she is the one causing problems as a joke. Whereas Sherbet honestly believes that if he microwaves this oran berry, Hellebore might be nicer to him and they can connect with each other on a friendly basis in the workplace.

He doesn't realize it will explode at the time she gave him.

Was thinking about my Mando Hilda AU that has Lydia and Phinium (because I like them), but then got to thinking more about the AU I came up with a little bit after s3 dropped where Johanna never got sick as an infant, so Lydia and Phinium never had to leave for Fairy Country, so Jo grows up with her entire family and without having to get her memory wiped.

Growing up, Johanna does not know she is part-fairy. Lydia and Phinium want to raise her as a "normal" kid and planned to tell her when she turned thirteen-- but that plan was derailed when the spider-frog creature from the lake attacked the family on an outing, and Astrid was forced to protect them, revealing her-- and Phinim's-- true nature in the process. They tell Jo she's half-fairy when she's nine, instead. So Johanna grows up with her entire family, knowing she's half-fairy. Phinium and Astrid teach Jo how to use her magic.

Later, Johanna goes off to college in Trolberg. She meets Anders there, and her ensuing relationship with him is her version of a late-teenage (she's in her early 20s) rebellion. Predictably, none of her family back home likes him. Jo thinks she likes him, but he dips, and we get the attitude toward him that Jo has in canon. Hilda comes along soon after. Anders is whatever, but Hilda? Jo loves her so, so much. Luckily, her parents and aunt do, too. I feel like Astrid would make a comment like "So, that's where Phin's blue hair went!"

Side note: I feel like Phinium would be thee dorkiest grandfather. He'd probably be Hilda's favorite grandparent tbh.

Anyway. Jo does what her parents did and decides to raise Hilda as normally and as humanly as possible. She moves out of Trolberg and out to her family's house in the Wilderness. Hilda grows up similarly to canon, but with the added bonus of grandparents :)

(I was thinking about the elves, and have decided that they still don't find out about them until the same point in canon. Even fairies aren't exempt from the elves' paperwork and rules.)

Canon continues largely the same from there. The most major difference I can think of until the end of s2 is just Lydia, Phinium, and Astrid helping Jo, Hilda, Twig, and Alfur get settled in Trolberg after Jorgen steps on the house.

However, Stone Forest is where things get different. Like Jo, circumstances force Johanna to tell Hilda about her fey heritage earlier than thirteen. At the end of SF, instead of Hilda being saved by the white woff, Johanna, in a panic, jumps out of the balloon to use her abilities of flight to catch Hilda. She doesn't answer any questions until she and Hilda are back home, at which point she says something along the lines of "This is something your grandparents should be here for." So, she calls them, and they and Astrid agree to come over the next day. However, events continue as normal and Hilda swaps with Baba that night. Jo is then left with a newly-human troll baby and her parents and aunt arriving soon.

They, of course, help with the search. Lydia elects to stay back with Tontu and Baba, and Jo, Phinium, Astrid, and Alfur go up to the mountains to search for Hilda, since they (excluding the resident elf) have magic and can possibly pinpoint Hilda. (They can't; the trolls' magic is too concentrated to find Hilda.)

I have more thoughts than what can fit in here right now, but a big part of this version of MK is Gerda working with the fairies and getting her mind opened to even more magical beings who are just people, same as anyone. Hilda also learns about her fey heritage and is, of course, ecstatic. Frida and David think Hilda's grandparents are wicked cool. Lydia and Phinium are delighted to have even more grandchildren (Tontu and Baba). I have no idea what s3 would be lmao.

Daniel/Betty slight AU, Daniel goes over to Betty’s apartment after not going to her going-away party so he can apologize and say goodbye

Daniel/Betty long multichap s4 AU where Daniel gets a little suspicious of Bennett and they investigate him and get into investigative journalism

Daniel/Betty/Amanda continuation of the Betty/Amanda Bahamas fic I just posted

Daniel/Betty in the future verse with their kids, taking Rosa to college (Daniel will spend 2/3 of the fic in tears lol)

Not in progress yet but on deck:

Betty and Amanda, not quite shippy, cuddling after Halston dies

Betty/Amanda after an almost kiss get into a sort of gay chicken that comes to a head (heh) in London during Hilda’s bachelorette party and Amanda says, “Well SOMEONE’S supposed to sleep with the maid of honor!”

Ideas that I’m marinating on until they turn into full concepts but may never actually write:

Amanda/Alexis when Amanda wants Nick Pepper’s job as Alexis’s assistant

Wilhelmina/Alexis different ending to their little date at the sports bar

Claire/Wilhelmina hate sex??

Daniel/Betty sort of triangle with Molly where Claire saying, “Her name wouldn’t happen to be Betty, would it?” makes Daniel realize it IS Betty, actually

Daniel/Betty end of s2 change where Betty does go to Tucson with Henry and Daniel goes to stop her, possibly combined with a crossover/fusion with the Nicolas Cage movie “The Family Man” with Daniel seeing their potential life together and running after Betty

Daniel/Marc Bahamas hook up

Daniel/Betty some kind of body swap fic, very silly and I haven’t even decided if Daniel and Betty are swapping bodies or if Betty’s still dating Matt and he and Daniel swap bodies

Daniel/Betty find an abandoned litter of puppies and have to bottle feed them and Daniel wants to keep at least one (my “give Daniel a dog” agenda continues)

Daniel/Betty break up but can’t even last 12 hours before they get back together (sillier than it is angsty because they literally forget they broke up)

Daniel/Betty run into Zachary Boule in London and he wants Betty now that he doesn’t think she’s too embarrassing to be seen with

Maybe Marc/Cliff getting back together fic

Editing because I remembered another: Daniel/Betty tried dating when he first got to London but it kind of didn’t go anywhere but when they go home for Christmas they pretend to be dating because everyone’s expecting it and then of course realize it didn’t fizzle out and go nowhere they’re just stupid

Ok, I've been thinking a lot about @blaithnne Hilda Swap Au.

The designs are just so neat, I frickin' love it

In this Au, I imagine Kaisa doesn't like Johanna very much (at first at least) because of how she helps and encourages Frida to go into dangerous and magical situations

"Alright listen. If you go there you'll find land. Probably. I mean I don't know for sure but there's a 50/50 chance, right?"

Here's swap Riley and Eugene for the soul (the soul being my soul because this is entirely self indulgent)

Here they are in FULLBODY GLORY. Riley is wearing a jacket and hat he found off a shipwreck hence why it's covered in BARNACLES and SEAWEED and ALGAE. He likes the "monster" part of the sea monster look because he likes scaring people off when really he's completely harmless (and a bit of a wimp)

Eugene here has never been sailing up until this point. He dove in way too confident and way too unprepared and got his ass COMPLETELY lost. This guy is a performer, not a sailor. Cut him some slack. He's just here to have a good time

Neither of these lil shits know anything about navigation. The only help Riley gives is as an audience and sometimes protection from dangerous sea creatures

Anyway asks are open for these guys because I love them. Hell ask them questions directly if you want, that might be fun too
