Though I’m not a fan of depressing Christmas songs, this one holds a special place in my heart.
My mother LOVED The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (which is the version of the song I’ve shared) and she also loved the Kenny and Dolly album Once upon a Christmas where this track also appeared.
Today's polish is a beautiful flakey polish. I really love this color green and it screams Christmas. It is still so overcast and rainy here that there wasn't much sun, but hopefully you can still see how pretty the flakes are. In the bottle you easily see these pink iridescent flakes too, but they didn't show up as well on the nail. If you zoom WAY in on the pictures you can still see them. This is Hard Candy Christmas from Wildflower Lacquer.
I heard this song for the first time when I was having a really rough year. We moved, the job offer my husband got that we moved for fell through, I and our two very small kids were living with my parents while he hustled to get enough of a paycheck together that we could get our own place.
I was driving around doing grocery shopping and other errands in the weeks leading up to Christmas and this came on one of the country radio stations. I was barely holding back tears in the car, but I felt better, too. Barely getting through just like in the song. But still I’d be fine.
This is one of those songs that spoke to me then. Maybe it’ll speak to you if you need it.

Adding Dolly Parton to the playlist with #77 Hard Candy Christmas. I didn’t hear this one until I was in my 20s, but it’s one of those sad but an optimistic attitude towards Christmas. I think that’s a very relatable message for a lot of people around the holidays. You can’t go wrong with Dolly.
