i dont think anyone understands just how unhinged I am over shion. i listened to a 4hr video talking abt meakashi and every single thing the commentators brought up abt shion I was like yeah i wrote abt this. yeah thats in my notes. yes i messaged rei abt this when I was losing my shit over the torture scene. oh i also wrote abt this. yeah i pointed this out a few months back when i stayed up til 4am turning her over in my mind like the worlds most self destructive most neglected rubiks cube

it haunts me so bad that the reason why rena believes her friends cannot and will not help her is bc she saw everyone forsake satoshi the year before, including herself. so much stuff in higurashi hinges on the fact that an entire village knew that satoshi and satokos caregivers were abusive… and they did not do anything to stop that abuse

like they tried to look out for satoko and made the after school club for her, they had satoshi sign up for baseball so he could have exercise and also time away from the house, but they could not and would not take concrete steps to save the two from persistent abuse… and every other child in the village saw this and understood it. and the village let the murder of the fourth year happen and every child knew. like of course rena would internalize the idea that you can only count on yourself. she saw it all firsthand… satoshi was driven to murder and the village could not even hide the body for him. rena knows she has to act fully alone its just so deeply tragic

i like it when ppl get as obsessed abt shion as i am like she is the most intricately written girl in the world

the thing abt umineko is that it is definitely well paced and well written and all the characters particularly the girls r very fun and good and I luv them. but it has not Grabbed me the same way higurashi, and particularly tatarigoroshi, did. i read tatarigoroshi in the span of like 4 days I was sweating sobbing shaking throwing up i was sick to my stomach and could not peel my eyes away from it all like it was one of the most amazing despicable reading experiences ive had fr. it genuinely took everything out of me like my blood sugar plummeted my anemia came back w a vengeance I was fainting and hyperventilating like it was literally too much to take. umineko ch3 has had some really interesting moments and i think umineko in general has not had like, unpleasant or unbearable scenes the way higurashi has, but it has not hit the insane highs that parts of higurashi reach, at least not yet… umineko is enjoyable more consistently, higurashi has some low lows but it also has some incredible highs and I hope umineko gets to those highs at some point …

i wish the 2006 higurashi anime had the budget and time and also tone to be as good as the VNs bc this gif fucking haunts me some of the shots and angles in the 2006 anime are insane we should have had the entire anime be as unnerving and claustrophobic as this
