A lovely essay-style interview of Gilchrist, who wrote and drew the daily Jim Henson's Muppets newspaper comic strip from 1981-1986, about how he got the gig, about working with King Features Syndicate and with Jim, and about the process.
[B]efore we began production, Jim met with King Features and said, “The Muppets don’t belong to the United States, they belong to the whole world, so I would like everyone in the world to read the same strip in every language on the same day.”
The guys from King Features were on the floor — this had never been done before. But Jim said, “Whatever Guy draws that you’re reading in The Daily News, is the same one everyone will be reading.” They said, “Mr. Henson, this cannot be done.” And Jim just said, “Oh, I think it can.” Then he thanked them, said goodbye and returned to London.
Jim was extremely gentle and soft-spoken. He didn’t say a lot, until there was something to be said. Jim would always listen, and then he would make a statement, to which everyone listened. Muppets producer David Lazer used to say, “Jim has a whim of steel,” which described Jim perfectly.
And so, King Features made it happen — the strip was in every country with a free press in every language. That was over 80 countries. We were the only comic that was ever like that. And that was because of Jim’s vision.

You are a massive fan of the Jackass guys, with Chris always having a massive place in your heart. Chris has always been your favourite, with his hair, his loving nature and his ability to make people laugh at any given moment. So when you found out you would be able to meet the cast you were absolutely ecstatic!
You are in line waiting to see them at after one of their movie premiers and you are shaking in excitement. You can just about see the guys walking out of the premier doors as the loud cheers of excitement erupt around you, nearly deafening you. You grin excitedly holding onto the metal barrier stopping the crowd from making their way into the carpet, while trying to calm yourself so you don't make a fool of yourself infront of your idols.
The guys start walking down the red carpet while doing their best to interact with as many fans as possible, acting like their usual chaotic self's. Although sadly, Steve-o's penis did not make an appearance this time.
As they start slowly coming closer you shift from side to side with a mix of excitement and anxiety. A random guy pushes past you are the guys walk close, pushing you into the barrier and making you stumble and fall, and mumbles a few cusses before completely ignoring you. You cuss under you breath and rub your stomach where the harsh metal hit.
Chris turns around and frowns at the guy,
"Hey what the fuck. Watch where you are going asshole!"
He says and reaches over the barrier to help you up.
"You alright man? Took a hit against these"
He says, tapping the bars softly, looking concerned for you. You nod looking slightly dazed from confusion and shock,
"Uhm, yeah. I'm fine, and hey it can't be as bad as some of the stuff you guys have done"
You reply with a laugh, after getting up properly. Chris chuckles and nods, before glaring at the guy
"You may as well fuck off, no one here is going to sign any of your shit. We don't like prats like you"
He says and looks around at the security, before winking at you and tugging at the metal bars, until the two segments break apart.
"Come on then mate, you are coming with us"
He says with a grin and pulls you through onto the carpet, putting a heavy arm around your shoulders and pulling you away as other people try and come through the gap as well.
"Uhm, nope. I'm only letting...shit dude I don't even know your name yet!"
He says with his signature laugh, and waits for you to reply with your name before nodding and turning back to the ground
"I'm only letting my new main man y/n through, thank you very much"
He says and grins at Steve-o's mock offence at his statement
"Aww come on Stephen Gilchrist Glover, you know I could never replace you lover boy"
He says with a cheesy grin.
By the end of the day you have had the greatest day ever. Surrounded the guys, joking around, coming up with ideas for stunts and doing crazy shit. You and Chris had managed to grow pretty close even within the matter of hours, and it's been fantastic. You couldn't have asked for more.

Just a little snippet to tide you over until I’ve completed the final chapter - I’m aiming for Saturday - of The Very Regency (Un)Ladylike Guide To Fortune-Hunting. Read below the cut!
One of the Viscount’s namesakes, a James P. Gilchrist in his A Brief Display Of The Origin And History Of Ordeals, wrote about the duel that “it appears, that in one hundred and seventy-two combats (including three hundred and forty-four individuals,) sixty-nine persons were killed; that in three of these neither of the combatants survived; that ninety-six were wounded, forty-eight of them desperately, and forty-eight slightly; that one hundred and eighty-eight escaped unhurt. From this statement it will be seen that rather more than one-fifth of the combatants lost their lives, and that nearly one-half received the bullets of their antagonists.”

Been a minute, but onto Flash Vol 2 Issue 16 - The Adventures of Speed McGee, Part 1
Alright, heading into the three-parter! I actually own some comics that come up right after that, so I’ve seen fan reactions about these issues in the letters to the editor. I’m excited to finally see what they’re talking about ha ha.
Jerry is looking a lot better. I think it’s really interesting that they decided to not just make him a simple villain and then toss him aside.

Lol Wally’s mom being friendly to Tina is like MAJOR SIDEYE what’s going on
Alright, so Tina and Jerry clearly still have chemistry, they’re showing that he’s remorseful but that Tina has forgiven him. She and Wally are in a rough patch. Kiiiinda seems like they’re setting up for her and Jerry to get back together and go on their way.
Wally with the kids is excellent. And that the first thing he thinks of is how Barry did stuff like that... Ah my heart. But also lmao Wally does NOT know how to interact with these children yet and it’s hilarious. Good on him for giving it a try tho.
Oh Mason’s here. Lol he’s totally saving Wally’s butt with these kids.
Then we check in on Jerry, and his scientist buddy throws his weight around a bit. Then back to Wally trying to deal with his eviction notice bc boy can’t catch a break.
Okay I was SO confused. I thought that was Wally with Gilchrist and the baby, but it’s the guy who was wearing his suit that beat him up. Hella confusing.
Wally, I swear to god do not....
You know when your husband tries to kill you, but you still love him so you go to the bitchy mom of the guy who is ready to break up with you for advice? Totally universal experience, amirite?

Final thoughts:
Wally’s life is such a freaking rollercoaster. It makes me laugh bc it’s so insane. He’s the fastest man alive, he has no speed powers, people think he’s Barry, he resents his girlfriend, he doesn’t want her to walk out on him, he was a millionaire, he’s getting evicted. Where does it eeeeeennnnddd?? (Flash fact: it doesn’t)
So it looks like Savage is still in play, and of course his personal life issues don’t wrap up here. Wally was about to bust in to see Jerry (which he had no leg to stand on btw so kind of good they got interrupted), and I’m sure that’s going to come up again bc after all, this only Speed McGee adventure number one!
