Day 6 of 21, embracing an attitude of gratitude and I am grateful for the allies in my life and across the world. Today I had the pleasure of co-facilitating a cultural awareness group, hearing from people about what they would want in their agency regarding having a space to share, learn, and grow with and from each other’s experience. This is tough work. Trying to encourage people to look outside their own world view and engage in conversation about another persons perspective without judgement and intention for persuasion is not a walk in the park. But having a co facilitator, who speaks the same language (as far as thinking with a trauma informed care perspective), recognizes that RACISM is real, validates my and other peoples emotions regarding racial disparities and injustices, acknowledges her privilege and leverages it to educate others, speaks out against what’s wrong, challenges her colleagues to be more open minded, owns her mistakes... that’s the definition of an ally. And and I’m proud to have her and other allies in my life.
